Gift Exchange, Offers and Requests FAQ

What is a gift exchange?

It’s a fandom event where the participants make a gift work for someone, usually following the ratings, warnings, characters, and/or ships, and/or additional details given to them, and get one back themselves! 

When one signs up for a gift exchange, they will be given an assignment aka a work they are supposed to complete within the deadline

2. What works are allowed in this exchange? 

Change Gift Exchange welcomes fanfic, fanart, fan comics, and podfics submissions. Both nsfw and sfw works are accepted.

Please note that all submissions must be original, previously unposted, completed, and related to the show and the characters and/or the ships, as asked in the assigned request.

3. How can I join/sign up?

Sign ups begin on AO3 from 12th December. (More info will be given in the sign up post coming out soon!). You must have an ao3 account to participate in this event. Take a look at the ao3 gift exchange faq for more detailed, step by step instructions.

4.What are Requests? What are Offers?

When one signs up for a gift exchange, they will be given an assignment aka a work they are supposed to complete within the deadline. 

A participant will be allowed to make ‘requests’ aka specify what kind of gift they are expecting to get using ao3 tags like ratings, categories, ships, and/or characters, and/or optional tags, and descriptions. They might also include what they do not wish to receive in their gifts in the descriptions in more details.

The offers will later be sent to other participants as assignments, based on the other participants ‘requests’, by ‘matching’ the tags of the ‘offers’ and the  ‘requests’, as provided by the two recipients. 

Please note, most exchanges do not match all the tags given in a request or an offer—the usual matched ones are fandoms, ratings, categories, and do not wants, and sometimes the ships and the characters. 

This exchange will be match based on fandoms, relationships, and do not wants, and ratings.

That brings another question - what are ‘offers’? Like requests, participant are required to make offers by specifying what they are willing to create with the help of ao3 tags like ratings, categories, ships, and/or characters, and/or optional tags, and descriptions. The requests will be matched with offer after sign ups close.

Please take care to mention in details in your descriptions what you DO NOT wish to see in your gift in your request, and what you DO NOT wish to create in your offers.

While requests will be public in this exchange to allow treats (aka extra gifts that are not assigned to anyone, that anyone participant who have already assigned a work, or a non-participant who is not participating in the event may make following a participant’s request), offers will be visible only to the mods and the participant who submitted them. So feel free to be through in your descriptions! 

This exchange requires a minimum of 3 requests and 5 offers, and one offer and one request each MUST be sfw. 

Please note that requests and offers based on priority. You should NOT put your sfw requests and/or offers as the first as unless you want them prioritised.

Participants may make a maximum of 6 requests and 10 offers. 

Examples - (these are guidelines, feel free to tweak, change, and as minimalistic or detailed as you want. But make sure you include what you don’t want to see or do!)

❗️ The production company Studio WabiSabi announced that their actors Boun N., Prem W., Santa P., Sammy C., Yacht P. and Stamp P. have terminated their contracts and will no longer be artists under the company on April 15th. Shortly after, GMMTV announced the 6 of them as newly signed artists, along with the disclosure that BounPrem's upcoming BL Vampire Project is now being produced under GMMTV, who now also own all broadcasting rights; WabiSabi will function as a co-producer. New S. stated on Twitter that the decisions had been long in the making, as well as the fact that WabiSabi no longer functions as a management agency for actors and is now a mere production company. He also denied the rumors that the company is shutting down. Shortly after the transfer of the Wabi Sabi actors, actor Fluke Jeeratch (formerly Pongsakorn) joined GMMTV as well.

❗️ The Filipino BL Gameboys is getting a third season. An air date has not been confirmed.

❗️ P Ekkapop and Pan Jirachot, the lead actors from Kiseki Chapter 2, have announced a new project together. Details are unknown.

❗️ Actor Barcode Tinnasit has announced his departure from his agency Be On Cloud.

❗️ After some confusion, the Korean production company Studio X+U announced that their upcoming series Fragile - which was initially advertized as a Korean SKAM remake - is in fact not connected to the Norwegian web series and is instead a standalone series, which focuses on the life of a group of teenagers. According to ZUM News, there was supposed to be a Korean SKAM remake based on the Norwegian original, which was however cancelled due to unknown reasons. Fragile was created as a substitution.

RULES

The expected behaviour and rules for the Change Gift Exchange 2024 are - 

All participants must create a fic of minimum 700 words in comprehensive English, or a completed fanart or comic, or a podfic of an original, unposted work written by the podfic creator that is minimum 5 minutes long, related to the show and the characters and/or the ships, as asked in the request.  There is no maximum length for any fics or podfics.

Works created MUST follow the fandom(s) and ship (romantic or platonic) and/or characters that the assignments contain, and MUST comply the do-not-wants/won’t-reads/squicks etc that any assignment has specified.  The creator is allowed to include other ships and characters not given in the request, provided that the recipient has not forbidden those ships and/or characters in the request. The optional tags and any descriptions/prompts given in the assignments can be taken as a guideline, but do not necessarily need to be followed.

All participants are REQUIRED to provide 3 requests and 5 offers at minimum. Note that a participant may provide more—upto 6 requests and 10 offers at maximum.

The requests and offers must be listed based on priority, with the first being the participant���s most desired to receive and create, and the last one the least.  However, it can not be guaranteed that the first one will be matched, participant must be ready to create any offer or accept gifts from any request that they have put down.

One request and one offer MUST be sfw. This is to make sure that there’s a sufficient pool of choices for both sfw and nsfw gifts so everyone gets matched and no one is compelled to create works that don’t comply with their squicks and won’t do-s. Please note, following the priority listing in rule 3, participants should NOT put sfw offer(s) and/or request(s) first if they wish to receive nsfw gifts and/or get assigned to create nsfw works.  Put the sfw offer(s) and request(s) first ONLY if you want to receive sfw gifts and/or get assigned to create sfw works.

All submitted works MUST be original, previously unposted, completed, and fit the recipient’s request. 

All works MUST abide by the recipient’s prompt’s ratings, ships, and hard limits/squicks/do not wants. Any work that doesn’t abide by this may not be revealed, or if discovered after revealed, taken down.

All works should be tagged appropriately, and must have relevant archive warnings, if any. 

No shaming, harassing other creators for their requests, offers, prompts and/or submitted works will be allowed. Spread joy and happiness, not sorrow and discourse :D
