I'm sure everyone realizes the significance of the upgrade materials for the Champion's Leathers:

Yup, it's imbued with protection from the Light Dragon (plus Silent Princesses), a.k.a. pure distilled Zelda. But it's not just that. Take a look at the upgrade materials for the Tunic of Memories, a.k.a. the old Champion's Tunic:

They're different from its upgrade materials from BotW:

The devs didn't have to change that. But they did. They made sure to add the Light Dragon's protection into the old tunic as well. BUT it's not as "pure" as the materials for the Champion's Leathers, still requiring parts from the other three dragons. Why? Because Zelda made it back when she hadn't opened her heart to Link yet. Whereas the new tunic was made with her full affection for him poured into it. Why else would they have done that? Why else would they have done that!?

perhaps a hot take for the Zelda community but I HATED the Champion's tunic in botw. Like the color just screamed 2006 tween bedroom to me and I was DISMAYED when I learned I couldn't dye it.
the totk Champion's tunic though? lovely. how does the addition of a spaulder change everything? add the black turtleneck underneath and we're cooking with GAS. he's got the thick gucci belt. we love it.

It is so weird that Link has two iconic swords, two iconic shields, two iconic outfits, several iconic miscellaneous tools, and ZERO iconic bows. It is more immediately recognizable to show a picture of a hookshot/clawshot (any design) than it is to show literally any of Link's bows throughout the series. The closest is the Bow of Light, but that's more associated with Zelda than Link.

some of my botw cosplay. both outfits were 100% hand embroidered and made with "historically accurate" fabrics. link's tunic is linen, and zelda's coat is 100% pure wool, shearling, and hand tooled leather for the belt. bro didn't wanna wear a wig for link :V

Alternate Totk headcanon: Puppet Zelda won and and broke Link. He got entirely consumed by hatred and despair and is beyond saving now. No hope, no heart, unredeemable. Link is Puppet Zelda's corrupted knight. He is Dark Link.

I like imagining she was very particular about the armour placements#and had a chest piece added because yknow. right over the heart might I add#originally I wanted this to be more angsty but halfway through I was like wait this would completely miss the point#in my mind the armor isn’t just ‘I don’t want you to die again’ but also ‘I want to keep you safe as best I can’#in her diary she was like links armor is wearing down so you know what? I was really struggling with what to draw, and then I remembered your ask from ages ago (dang ADHD brain...) anyway, sorry its such a late answer, but Miphlink inspired by Dicksee's La Belle Dame

#honest to god i drew this link thinking like 'there's no way this is gonna be that bad right' and then i pulled up his model. god#babygirl you are everything to me but why the fuck are your eyes like that. ugly hot king#also fully forgot that i never actually use the eyedropper for his hair bc i think it looks better w a redder tone#OR HIS EYES LMAOOO i always just use the champion's tunic blue even tho they are very much 2 different colors#zelda is a liiiiitle closer i think but i had to draw skinny zelda for this which hurt me a little bit#it is interesting to think abt the features i subconsciously choose to emphasize tho bc like. in my mind her hair clips ARE that big#but theyre rlly. actually not that big an element of her design LMAO#same w link's ponytail. logically i know it doesnt actually stick out like that but i desperately need to know its there at all times#also why the fuck are their model noses so small. i just noticed that. anime has done irreparable damage to the state of noses in art#anyway.#skribbles

I love the theory that Zelda repaired the Champion's Tunic to propose to Link with it because if we take the idea of Link culturally viewing the gifting of armor as an engagement tradition to its logical conclusion, what did he think of the Champion's Tunic the first time around?
