Hi! For the Warden, Hawke and Inky :)
Drakestone - What are your OC’s feelings on Dragons?
Warden (Faolan Surana): Could take or leave them, no strong opinions either way, though they're a bastard to fight (though he is a little jealous of Flemeth's ability to shapeshift into one)
Hawke (LiamHawke): Loves them, maybe a little too much. He's thought they were cool since a young age and still does to this day. Swears that next time he sees Flemeth he's going to make her teach him how to become a dragon
Inquisitor (Dhaviha Lavellan): Honestly a little awestruck by them. They're majestic beings and she feels a little bad about killing them sometimes. As a young child in her clan she loved hearing stories that involved dragons and holds a deep respect for them

WASHINGTON (AP) — Even as she promoted her efforts to boost clean energy, Vice President Kamala Harris said in Tuesday's debate that the Biden-Harris administration has overseen “the largest increase in domestic oil production in history because of an approach that recognizes that we cannot over rely on foreign oil.″
The comment by Harris, a longtime climate hawk who backed the original Green New Deal, surprised supporters and opponents alike — and conflicted with frequent boasts by Harris and President Joe Biden that they are champions in the fight to slow global warming.
After former President Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Agreement on climate change, the Biden-Harris administration reentered the global pact aimed at reducing emissions. The administration also set a target to slash U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and moved to accelerate renewable energy projects and shift away from fossil fuels.
Liam Donovan, a Republican strategist, said it was notable that at a debate in energy-rich Pennsylvania, Harris chose to “brag about something that President Biden has barely acknowledged — that domestic fossil fuel production under the Biden administration is at an all-time high.″ Crude production averaged 12.9 million barrels a day last year, eclipsing a previous record set in 2019 under Trump, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The statement was “another sign of Harris’ sprint to the middle″ on energy policy and other issues, said Donovan, who works with energy industry clients at the Bracewell law and lobbying firm.
Harris went one step further, rebranding the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act — the administration's signature climate law — as a boon to fracking and other drilling, thanks to lease-sale requirements inserted into the bill by independent West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a key swing vote in the Senate and a strong supporter of the fossil fuel industry.
Harris's comments disappointed some in the environmental community.
“Harris missed a critical opportunity to lay out a stark contrast with Trump and show young voters that she will stand up to Big Oil and stop the climate crisis,'' said Stevie O’Hanlon, a spokesperson for the Sunrise Movement, one of the groups behind the Green New Deal.
“Harris spent more time promoting fracking than laying out a bold vision for a clean energy future,'' O'Hanlon said. “Young voters want more from Harris'' on climate change, she added. “We want to see a real plan that meets the scale and urgency of this crisis.''
Her group is working to turn out young voters, “but we hear people asking every day, ‘What are Democrats going to do for us?’” O'Hanlon said. “To win, Harris needs to show young people she will fight for us.”
Other environmental groups were less critical, citing the looming threat to climate action posed by Trump, who rolled back more than 100 environmental protections during his term as president.
“There is only one presidential candidate who is a champion for climate action and that is Kamala Harris,'' said Alex Glass, speaking for Climate Power, a liberal advocacy group. Harris "laid out a clear vision to invest in clean energy jobs and lower costs for working families,'' Glass said.
By comparison, she said, Trump "will do the bidding of his Big Oil donors.''
Glass cited the conservative Project 2025, written by Trump allies, saying it will put millions of clean-energy jobs at risk and let oil companies "profiteer and pollute.'' Trump has denied a direct connection to Project 2025 but has endorsed some of its key ideas.
Mike Sommers, president and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, the oil and gas industry's top lobbying group, said Harris' comment in support of fracking reflected political reality in the closely contested election. “You have to be for fracking to be elected president in 2024,'' he said. “That's good news for our industry and great news for American consumers.''
Asked why he was so confident about the need to support fracking, Sommers offered a one-word answer: “Pennsylvania.”
Not only is it a key swing state in the election, Pennsylvania also “is the beating heart of the natural gas industry in this country,” Sommers said, second only to Texas in total production.
"You don't win Pennsylvania without supporting fracking, and you don't win the presidency without Pennsylvania,'' Sommers said.
In the debate, Trump disputed Harris's claim that she will not try to ban fracking, but Sommers said he takes Harris at her word and welcomes her support for fracking and oil drilling more generally.
Asked if he was concerned about Harris' past actions suing oil companies, Sommers said no. The oil and gas industry supports 11 million jobs, he said, and the price of gasoline “is determined by economics — supply and demand. There is no man behind the curtain” rigging prices.
As California attorney general, Harris “won tens of millions in settlements against Big Oil and held polluters accountable,'' her campaign says. Her platform includes a promise to ”hold polluters accountable to secure clean air and water for all.''
Trump, meanwhile, has vowed to rescind unspent funds from the climate law and other programs, and said he will target offshore wind projects. He said Harris would move to restrict onshore oil and gas production if elected.
“They’ll go back to destroying our country, and oil will be dead, fossil fuel will be dead,” Trump said.
A president’s power to restrict fracking, even on federal lands, is limited, and barring the practice on private land would require an act of Congress.

#4 Bears Win Minnesota Invitational
Cal Takes Four Events On Final Day of December Event
MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 4 California men's swimming & diving team finished the Minnesota Invitational in style, winning four of the five events on Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The Golden Bears swept the 100 freestyle and 200 butterfly and had the top two finishes in the 400-yard free relay. Cal was the team champion with a score of 2,360 points. Arizona finished second with a score of 1,455 and was followed by host Minnesota with a score of 1345.5. The Bears received individual wins from Destin Lasco, Jack Alexy, and Dare Rose - with all three recording NCAA A qualifying times in their respective events. Saturday's finals began with the timed final in the 1,650 free. The Bears placed two in the top five, with Jack Meehan finishing third with a time of 15:11.92. Tyler Kopp finished with a time of 15:13.90. Both were good enough for NCAA B-cut times. Lasco and Keaton Jones went one and two in the 200 backstroke. Lasco, the defending national champion in the event, finished with a time of 1:38.34 - an NCAA A-cut time and the second-fastest mark in the NCAA this year. Jones set a new career-best with a time of 1:40.23, an NCAA B provisional time. Ziyad Saleem took fourth with a time of 1:41.69, followed by Colby Mefford who finished with a time of 1:41.96. Kai Crews finished seventh with a time of 1:43.09. All three times were good enough for NCAA B provisional times. The 100 free was dominated by Cal. The Bears captured the top four spots, along with sixth and eighth places. Alexy finished with the fourth-fastest time in the country this year, touching the wall with a time of 41.41, an NCAA A-cut time. Bjorn Seeliger and Matthew Jensen finished second and third with NCAA B-cut times of 42.31 and 42.80, respectively. Robin Hanson took fourth with a time of 42.97 – narrowly missing an NCAA B-cut time. Dylan Hawk took sixth (43.37) followed by Roman Jones in eighth (43.53). Jacob Soderlund and Liam Bell recorded NCAA B-cut times in the 200 breaststroke. Soderlund finished second with a time of 1:55.96, less than two-tenths of a second behind winner Max Matteazzi of Pitt. Bell finished in fourth with a time of 1:56.33. Hank Rivers placed eighth with a time of 1:59.49. In the final individual event of the meet, Cal once again took the top three spots. Rose dropped 5.50 seconds from his prelims time to finish first with a time of 1:39.76. It is the third fastest time in the nation turned in this year and an NCAA A-cut time. Gabriel Jett finished well under his prelim swim with a time of 1:41.33. Aaron Shackell finished third with a personal-best time of 1:43.40, an NCAA B-cut time. In the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay, Cal once again had the top two times. The Bears' A lineup of Alexy, Jensen, Jett, and Hawk finished with a time of 2:48.55 – the sixth fastest time in the country this season. Cal's B lineup of Seeliger, Lasco, Hanson, and Bell finished with a time of 2:48.88 which would be the ninth fastest time this season. In the platform diving championships, freshman Geoffry Vavitsas finished second in the finals with a score of 341.20. Conrad Eck captured third with a score of 307.90, a zone-qualifying mark. The Bears return to action in 2024 with back-to-back dual meets against Pac-12 foes Arizona and Arizona State on Jan. 19 and 20th at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

3, 10, and 18?
3. opinion on blood magic?
Warden: Probably the most overtly negative opinion. Between the Circle, Jowan, and the Tevinter mages she was like "well blood mages are clearly either violently awful or complete idiots, perhaps this is something that shouldn't be meddled with." She is, however, a pragmatist at heart. If blood magic was useful means to achieve an end goal without crossing too many ethical barriers, she'd probably make an exception
Hawke: (Liam as Orym voice) "I'm just a fighter, I don't know know how magic works" but also "if blood mages could stop fucking with ME specifically, that would be nice." Trusts Merrill with it, though, because Merrill is nice. rarely considers the topic more deeply than that for reasons of "i stab people with knives, i don't know anything about magic, I don't feel particularly qualified to have a strong opinion here"
Inquisitor: Completely neutral. Genuinely no strong opinion on it.
10. are they good horse riders?
Warden: She's incredibly disciplined and loves animals so YEAH, I think she'd be a great rider. Like, this is a woman who sits so straight in her chair it's actively weird. She'd have fantastic form and all the horses would love her. She'd medal in dressage at the Olympics
Hawke: NO. Genuinely terrible at it, and in fact, she is actively afraid of horses. This is something I have thought about extensively lmao, she does NOT fuck with horses
Inquisitor: Not as bad as Hawke, but is so so awkward on horseback. She has real indoor kid energy, like that is not a woman you should put on a horse, but theoretically she could do it. just. not very gracefully
18. do they have any irrational fears?
Warden: She probably has about 1000 existential fears and exactly 0 irrational ones. She doesn't have time for irrational fears, she's always got too much going on.
Hawke: Horses, as previously mentioned. Can't explain it but to me personally (person who has been riding horses all her life) being afraid of them feels goofy, even though it's perfectly valid, and there is something so funny to me about it being like "You're the Champion of Kirkwall! You killed the Arishok in single combat! You were a major force behind the mage rebellion! You're so larger than life!" meanwhile Hawke would literally rather die than ever get on a horse, like that is so funny to me
Inquisitor: Fear of heights. I'm sorry to her for the number of times i made her jump off a cliff because i was far too impatient to find the actual path down. perhaps this is why she's afraid of heights, actually
ask me about my canon DA world state!
#for real though the actual bbeg of inquisition was the terrain maps i get lost WAY too easily in video games for that shit#we jumped off A LOT of cliffs together#asks#ask games#da ask game#surfingmimikyu

Day 2: Dreamer
Read it on Ao3
Only in Dreams
It is home, but not home.
Hawke knows this as all mages do, awareness pressing close and firm like the heaviness of water though his body feels pliant, weightless, and buoyant as it’d be floating upon the waves. The colors are always just a bit off, the gleam of sun and candlelight a touch too brilliant, sound distorted and muffled by a quiet, constant susurrus, the air devoid of scent. Here he navigates across the timeless and eternal depths of his memories, replicas of the waking world, with practiced ease. Seeks comfort in nostalgia and familiarity.
Carver sits at the kitchen table as he usually does in this particular dream - one of Garrett’s favorites. Though Carver has not been “little” a day in his life, he grins, because he was taller than his little brother then, broad like the father they both took after, and could still carry the boy on his shoulders on their trips to Lothering’s market. And Bethany, sweet Bethany, beside him, so fragile yet strong in her way, all beautiful mirth, and captivating smiles.
How I miss her.
The curve at the corners of his lips droops, the light in the house dimming with a brief flicker before he can tame the emotion, reel it back. Because they aren’t here, not really. Mere spirits, friendly ones kind enough to indulge the fantasies he only allows himself in the Fade. Out there… out there they pain him too greatly. He pushes them aside with drink, with women and men. Hedonism is an easy escape, blissful yet temporary just as life is, thus he never hesitates to dive headlong into carnality there.
In this precious place, however, it’s the softer things that soothe him. Sometimes it’s the days before the Blight, others it’s the Hanged Man and games of Wicked Grace and Varric spinning tales, and still others it’s that night with Fenris which feels both too close and so far gone. Beneath the sarcasm and arrogance he carries like a shield lies a tender heart, one that’s been broken more times than he can count, and only in dreams does he expose that buried, forgotten part of himself.
It’s for the best.
Too much rides on his strength, on his morale. He has borne many titles in his life, a life that feels exhaustingly long and simultaneously short enough for him to acknowledge the vastness of experience and accomplishment ahead. Thief and scoundrel, notorious philanderer, noble, fearsome and powerful mage, savior and defender of innocents, lover, friend, heir, and first and foremost, brother.
He is Garrett Liam Hawke, firstborn son of Malcolm Hawke and Leandra Amell, Champion of Kirkwall.
Tonight, he sleeps, basking in the luxury of calm and joy the childhood he never truly had brings. Watches his siblings bicker, banter, tease and laugh with no worries, no burdens upon their shoulders but the daily chores of maintaining their tiny, peaceful corner of Ferelden farmland.
Tomorrow, he wakes to a mansion near empty as his heart.

Hi!!! For the OC asks, any and/or all OCs :)
break: What would cause your OC to break down completely? What do they look like when that happens? Has anyone ever seen them at their lowest?
ohh this is such a fun yet hard question, I've been thinking about this since I saw the ask
answer underneath the cut because this turned out to be Long
Faolan Surana: He was a little hard to think of, mostly because for the longest time in his life he didn't really.. care about much? The Circle was dull and so most of his free time he spent reading and learning, because there wasn't really much else to do. During this time the only thing I can think of that would cause him to break down completely would be if it was decided to make him tranquil, but, well. He wouldn't be distraught for long if that was the case.
However, after the events of Origins? If something happened to Morrigan or Kieran. That's his family, something he never thought he'd have. He hates being apart from them, knows he can't protect them, but he also trusts Morrigan to keep Kieran and herself safe. Needless to say though when he hears about what happens in Inquisition (both Flemeth taking Urthemial's soul and the whole Morrigan and Well of Sorrows deal since I'm pretty sure she'll be the one drinking from it) he is Not happy and is probably the closest he's come to breaking down.
For the most part it'd look like Faolan shutting down. He isn't good at communicating in general, nonetheless when it comes to his emotions and how he's feeling, so he bottles all of it up. When he's with Morrigan and Kieran it also shows as him being Extra attentive to them. Morrigan isn't a fan of doting, he knows this, so instead he makes sure to keep an eye on her and to try and predict what she'll need before she does it herself. He totally dotes on Kieran though regardless of Morrigan's thoughts on it.
As for anyone seeing him at their lowest, really only Morrigan and Kieran after the events of Inquisition. However there was another, more minor, time though, and it was Zevran after defeating the Fifth Blight. The two traveled for a time before Faolan was sent to help rebuild and establish Vigil's Keep. During their travels Zevran saw Faolan pretty low and swore that he'd never speak a word of it.
Callum Hawke: This one was easy, mostly because I've had the same Hawke in mind since I first played Dragon Age 2 years ago. The most important thing to Callum is his family, and so the thing that'd cause him to break down completely would be losing his family.
At first glance Callum doesn't really show his emotions, instead hyper focusing on the family still alive. He puts on a brave face to make sure everyone else is okay, and only when the sun sets and everyone's passed out from crying all day does Callum properly, truly, break. His sobs are silent, he doesn't want to wake anyone, but they're so violent that his entire body looks like its spasming. It's rough, and when he's done he does the same as everyone else and falls asleep. He wakes up before everyone else to make sure they won't be able to tell, and then pretends it never happened.
The only person who saw him at his lowest was Anders, after Leandra died. When Anders came in to comfort Callum he broke. It was rough, Callum likes to act like he's infallible, to be the rock for his friends and family, but this one time he needed a rock of his own.
#dragon age#oc ask game#the warden#the champion#warden: faolan surana#champion: liam hawke#also looking back i. didn't realize that it was family for BOTH faolan and callum LMAO#leaving my inquisitor out for now since i still need to figure most of her details out#ill edit and rb this though when i (eventually) get to her

Rugby: World title next mission for national champions HBHS
New Post has been published on https://diary.nz/rugby-world-title-next-mission-for-national-champions-hbhs/
Rugby: World title next mission for national champions HBHS
As the Hastings Boys’ High School’s first XV rugby side celebrated their second National Top Four title in three years today manager Jason Bird’s attention had already turned to a bigger mission.
“We’ve qualified for the world championship again and as we only lose five or six players from this team we have to give that a crack again in April,” Bird said after his Hurricanes champions beat Blues champions King’s College of Auckland 27-14 in the Palmerston North-hosted National Top Four final.
HBHS went to the Sanix World Youth Invitational Tournament in Fukoka last year and finished second with a 35-5 loss to Fiji’s Ratu Kadavulevu School. That was always going to be a tough assignment after losing the bulk of the 2017 National Top Four-winning side and next year it shouldn’t be as hard.
“I’m immensely proud of these boys. Their willingness to do anything for each other helped them achieve what they did today,” Bird said.
“At the same time this final wasn’t won until Mercedes [fullback Hodge] scored our final try in the 67th minute. King’s are an awesome team and they kept coming back.”
Bird agreed it would be awesome to have the first XV honoured by being involved in next weekend’s Blossom Festival parade in Hastings as was the case in 2017. However this time he would also like to see the school’s national invitational under-15 tournament champions and Super 8 title-winning second XV also involved.
“Yes I would definitely make all three teams available as this is the first year we have won all three of those competitions. It’s also the second time we have had the Moascar Cup and the last time was in 2006,” HBHS principal Rob Sturch said referring to the “Ranfurly Shield” of secondary schools rugby.
King’s had taken the Moascar Cup off St Kentigern’s College earlier in the season. St Kentigern’s had earlier taken if off St Peter’s College of Auckland who took it off Napier Boys’ High School last year.
Sturch’s grin was just as big as those sported by the players and coaches Tafai Ioasa and Karl Lowe.
“Miserable conditions like this and we still had four mini vans full of supporters. They contained 44 boys who were prepared to come out and support the team in their uniforms. We also had to leave some boys behind because we had no room,” Sturch explained.
Just as he was in Friday’s 11-10 semifinal win against Hamilton Boys’ High School, first five-eighth Latrell Ah Kiong, was the key architect of the Hastings side’s victory. He captured the official player-of-the-match award for the second time in three days.
“The boys had a lot of fun out there against a classic King’s side. They are one of the toughest teams we have faced all year and it was good knowing the boys had my back,” Ah Kiong said.
“This feeling we are experiencing now means everything. All the pain we have gone through, all the fitness sessions … it was all worth it,” he added.
Like his team Ah Kiong produced a complete performance. His tactical kicking was spot on, his defensive reads were accurate, his assists classy and to succeed with five of his six attempts at goal in the atrocious conditions was a huge achievement.
Winger Joeli Rauca opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a try following clever buildup work from Ah Kiong and centre Andrew Hayward. Ah Kiong converted.
An Ah Kiong penalty in the 12th minute extended the lead and the score remained 10-0 until the halftime whistle. Another Ah Kiong penalty put Hastings ahead 13-0 in the 41st minute.
A period of sustained pressure from King’s saw first five-eighth Aidan Morgan score and convert in the 48th minute. Ten minutes later substitute prop Jeremiah Tuiatua made a spectacular charge and scored for Hastings. Ah Kiong again added the extras.
King’s remained in the battle when centre Meihana Grindlay scored and Morgan added the extras to have his side trailing 20-14. It was appropriate Ah Kiong should have plenty of involvement in Hodge’s try and also kick the final conversion of the match.
Expect HBHS to have a good chance of going back-to-back next year. However as Bird said: “That’s a long way off. The world title is enough to focus on now and a lot of work will go into that during the next couple of months.”
Scorers: Hastings Boys’ High School 27 (Joeli Rauca, Jeremiah Tuiatua, Merces Hodge tries; Latrell Ah Kiong 3 cons, 2 pens), King’s College 14 (Aidan Morgan, Meihana Grindlay tries; Morgan 2 cons). HT: 10-0.
Several members of the 2017 title-winning HBHS team were in the Hawke’s Bay under-19 side which walloped Southland 44-0 at the national under-19 tournament in Taupo today.
Hawke’s Bay will meet North Harbour in their semifinal of the Michael Jones Trophy section on Wednesday. Against Southland Hawke’s Bay led 17-0 at halftime.
Openside flanker Liam Udy-Johns, who scored two tries, prop Patrick Teddy and hooker Damarus Hokianga were prominent in the dominant Bay forward pack.
Fullback Ben Kelt used his pace to create plenty of havoc out wide. Hokianga, Teddy, No Luke Russell, substitute props Troy McIvor and Zac Southwick and substitute outside back also scored for the Bay and halfback Sam Walton-Sexton and substitute inside back Arana Murphy kicked conversions.

TWO WORLD TITLE FIGHTS ANNOUNCED FOR MAYWEATHER vs. McGREGOR SHOWTIME PPV UNDERCARD
Two world championship fights including a title defense by America’s youngest world champion are part of the trio of high stakes matchups on the Mayweather vs. McGregor SHOWTIME PPV undercard on Saturday, Aug. 26 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and presented by Mayweather Promotions.
The four-fight SHOWTIME PPV event, beginning live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, is headlined by the unprecedented super welterweight matchup between boxing’s undefeated all-time great Floyd Mayweather and UFC superstar Conor McGregor. In the co-featured bout, undefeated rising star Gervonta “Tank” Davis will make the second defense of his IBF Junior Lightweight World Championship against undefeated challenger Francisco Fonseca as the 22-year-old looks to continue his reign as the youngest current champion from the U.S.
WBA Light Heavyweight Titlist Nathan Cleverly will defend his title against former 168-pound world champion Badou Jack “The Ripper”, who is stepping up in weight and into this world title tilt.
The pay-per-view telecast will open with undefeated rising cruiserweight contender Andrew “The Beast” Tabiti taking on two-time world champion Steve “U.S.S.” Cunningham in a 10-round bout for the USBA cruiserweight title.
“What a night this will be for fight fans,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. “Not only will they witness a first of its kind main event, but they will also see two incredible world title fights, as Mayweather Promotions’ very own current and former world champions go head-to-head in separate bouts. Gervonta Davis is nothing short of pure boxing talent with dynamite power. Former super middleweight world champion Badou Jack is making his light heavyweight debut, and looking to take the title away from a tough and experienced Nathan Cleverly. But first, Andrew “The Beast” Tabiti will open the pay-per-view telecast with what I expect to be a magnificent performance. This diverse card is an epic, international affair stacked with talent. Make sure you don’t miss the biggest event the sport has ever seen.”
“This undercard includes three meaningful matches featuring fighters we’ve seen develop over the years on SHOWTIME,” said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. “Gervonta Davis has fast-tracked himself to stardom on this network, we’ve seen Badou Jack develop from prospect to champion, and we’re now witnessing similar growth with Andrew Tabiti. We're excited to watch them compete in tough, competitive matchups on this global stage."
Gervonta Davis vs. Francisco Fonseca – IBF Junior Lightweight World Championship
One of the fastest-rising young stars in the sport, Davis (18-0, 17 KOs) became the youngest reigning champion from the U.S. when he knocked out Jose Pedraza in January to capture the IBF 130-pound crown. The 22-year-old made his first title defense in style when he went to London and stopped Liam Walsh in May. Both bouts aired live on SHOWTIME. Representing Baltimore, Davis won the 2012 National Golden Gloves championship and scored knockouts in his first eight fights after turning pro in 2013. He enters this matchup on a streak of nine-straight fights that have ended with a knockout victory.
“I'm really excited to fight as the co-main event on the biggest card in combat sports history,” said Davis. “I plan to put on a great show for everyone in attendance in Las Vegas and for those who purchase the PPV. I want to thank my team for this incredible opportunity. I'm ready for Floyd Mayweather to pass his torch to me. To my fans, I appreciate all of you. Support me and I'll fight for you!"
Fighting out of San Ramon, Costa Rica, Fonseca has won 19 straight fights after turning pro with a majority draw in 2013. Fonseca quickly established himself as one of the top fighters from his country with victory after victory, including a fourth-round knockout of Luis Gonzlaez to capture a regional 130-pound belt last August. The 23-year-old will make his U.S. debut when he faces Davis and he enters this contest having won his last five bouts inside of the distance. Fonseca began his 2017 with a third round knockout of Eliecer Lanzas in March and is trained by two-time world champion Ivan Calderon.
"I am super grateful for this great opportunity,” said Fonseca. “The dream of every young boxer is to fight for the world title and this opportunity comes at the best moment of my career and in the biggest in the history of this sport. I will beat Gervonta Davis and I will shock the world that night."
Nathan Cleverly vs. Badou Jack – WBA Light Heavyweight World Championship
A two-time world champion at light heavyweight, Cleverly (30-3, 16 KOs) bounced back from a defeat to Andrzej Fonfara in a 2015 Fight of the Year contender to defeat hometown champ Juergen Braehmer last October to pick up his WBA title. Cleverly’s previous title reign saw him take down the likes of Tony Bellew, Nadjib Mohammedi, Shawn Hawk and Tommy Karpency before dropping a contest to Sergey Kovalev. The Wales resident will make his fourth start in the U.S., having won two of his first three contests stateside.
"This is a fight I have wanted ever since Badou Jack moved to light heavyweight and I'm delighted to fight in Vegas on an event like this,” said Cleverly. “I've trained long and hard for this fight and I'm ready to be let off the leash. This is the biggest fight of my career so far and I'm going to do a number on Badou Jack on August 26."
Now fighting in the 175-pound division, Jack’s final fight at 168 pounds came in a title unification on SHOWTIME in January against James DeGale. Jack shook off an early knockdown to floor DeGale in the final round in a close majority draw in which both fighters retained their belts. The 2008 Olympian from Gambia won his world title in 2015 by defeating then unbeaten Anthony Dirrell and defended the belt against current champion George Groves and former champion Lucian Bute. The 33-year-old is unbeaten in his last six bouts as he seeks a world title in a second weight class.
“I’m thankful for this opportunity and I’m excited about getting another shot at a world title,” said Jack. “To be a part of this event and fighting on this card is historic. Nothing beats it. I’m excited to get back in the ring. I’m getting ready to take that belt, and win a title in my second weight class. The biggest difference between past training camps and preparing for this fight is the fact that I was training to get the weight down, now I’m training to build muscle and perfect my boxing strategy. This will be a tough fight, but I don’t see any issues getting through it. I feel confident and fans can expect a win by knockout or decision. He’s not leaving with that belt. It’s staying right here in Las Vegas.”
Andrew Tabiti vs. Steve Cunningham – 10 Round Cruiserweight Bout
Originally from Chicago but fighting out of Las Vegas, Tabiti recorded victories against previously unbeaten fighters Keith Tapia and Quantis Graves in his last two outings – both on ShoBox: The New Generation – as he works to solidify himself as a contender in the red hot cruiserweight division. The 27-year-old turned pro in 2013 after amassing a solid 32-6 amateur record and scored knockout victories in his first 10 fights. He’ll battle his most experienced opponent to date when he faces the multiple-time champion Cunningham.
“I’ve always been dedicated when it comes to training and this camp has been no different,” said Tabiti. “I know I am fighting a veteran who has a lot of experience, so I can’t slack on my conditioning and training. He’s tough and he’s only been stopped once and that was when he moved up in weight to heavyweight, so it would be a big statement for me to stop him. This fight is a test for me. Anytime you get in the ring you never really know how things will pan out, but I have a great team. To the fans, expect a victory and a great fight on August 26th because I am going to make sure I come out on top.”
Representing the great fight city of Philadelphia, Cunningham returned to action in March with a victory over Felipe Romero after an exciting challenge of cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Glowacki in April 2016. Twice a world champion as a cruiserweight, he defeated Krzysztof Wlodarczyk in 2006 to capture his belt before successfully defending his title against Marco Huck via a twelfth-round TKO. He became a world champion again in 2010 when he stopped Troy Ross in the fifth round. The experienced veteran also owns victories over previously unbeaten fighters Amir Mansour and Natu Visinia and scored a knockdown of Tyson Fury in a losing effort during their 2013 bout.
"This is one of the biggest cards of the decade and its mind blowing to be a part of it,” said Cunningham. “I have to top it off with a victory. Taking on a good, undefeated young prospect is a challenge in itself, but a victory will prove age is just a number. Hard work is a part of my everyday life."
