during the final battle against Ma Xianhong at the end of Biyou Village arc, Wang Ye explains that the cost of manipulating time is to "burn up his own life force":

then, soon thereafter, we get more and more evidence that WY's physical body might be starting to deteriorate.

in the donghua adaptation (s5, ep. 11) of manhua ch. 305, the animators added in a shot of WY's bloodied toothbrush:

and after WY's first fight against Chen Jinkui (manhua chs. 374-378), we see the beginning of his strange symptomatology.

he gets a rash, that then disappears right before the doctor's eyes when he goes to the hospital.

upon returning briefly to Wudang (manhua ch. 404), his grandmaster notices as well.

then, when CJK attacks him again (manhua chs. 411-412), WY spits blood and starts bleeding from his nose...

...which ultimately results in him passing out.

and when WY wakes up on the remote island that CJK whisked him away to (manhua ch. 413), CJK tells him that he had a doctor friend run a bunch of tests on WY. except... the results were always very bizarre. he could test positive and be diagnosed with any number of things—and then immediately be perfectly healthy when they ran the tests again.

in short, something very strange is happening to WY's body.

(we learn he passes out again while escaping the island in manhua ch. 512 as well.)

but the kicker comes in manhua ch. 541, when we see WY holding some CT scans of what seem to be his own lungs.

it's different this time. despite trying two different hospitals and doctors, the results are the same. WY's symptoms are that of lung cancer.

that, finally, brings us to the most recent chapters (ch. 675)... where many cnetz have commented that WY looks exceptionally worn-out.

i'm not sure what the conclusion of this will be, though this cnetz here has some very cool theories. undoubtedly, though, using Feng-hou Qimen is negatively affecting WY's health.

so all i can say is... i really hope WY doesn't die.

Black Clover chapter 295 reaction and spoilers

What an ominous chapter cover spread. Once again, we get the imagery of Yami turned away from the group, signifying he will go in a different direction than the others (most often times because of death). This is compounded by the fact everyone is dressed in dark formal wear, even Zora has on a suit, covering his mouth with his hand because he’s foregone his mask. Gordon has his hat obscuring his eyes and Henry has his hair obscuring his eyes. Gauche, Finral, Grey, I and Vanessa have rather somber expressions. Nacht’s eyes are open, his lips vaguely upturned as if he has only half of his smiling mask. Magna and Charmy both seem peeved and Luck too is peeved, but in more of a Luck way which makes the expression manic. Nero seems guarded and Noelle looks towards the future. Asta also looks toward the future but with more determination as he clutches Yami’s katana in his left hand, signifying more of a passing of a torch perhaps than a time to fight. [EDIT: Someone rightfully pointed out in a reply that the sword is Demon Dweller and not the katana, but still interesting to note that it’s in Asta’s left hand since it’s the only sword in his possession in the spread] Asta’s also leading the group, which he’s done in Yami’s absence in other parts of the story (most notably when he got everyone to regroup at the Black Bulls’ hideout during the climax of the Elf Reincarnation Arc. The colors chosen for the sunset are also interesting. The clouds are dark but all tinged with a warm light. It’s an ending but not necessarily a bad ending. It’ll be interesting to see if all the symbolism you can glean from this cover spread will turn out to be foreshadowing for how this arc ends. It would be very much in line with the idea that even if Yami and Vangeance tie during the ritual, ultimately the Magic Knights will win against the Dark Triad and devils.

Loving Undine choosing Noelle in a time of crisis as her host. I like that again this underscores that Noelle’s family has always been wrong about her potential and her magic and that she has even more reason to believe in herself. Also love that Undine is totally going to go back to Loropechika after this is done because Noelle is too rough of a personality for her alskfajdslkja. But that also kind of makes sense in a way since Undine seems to be water like a lake, a waterfall, a sea whereas Noelle seems to be like water like rapids, a funnel spout, like an all-encompassing spiral of liquid protecting what’s inside while destroying what’s outside.

Also, forever loving how Tabata turns his girls into basically magical girls. Saint Stage is something right out of a shoujo and I love this for Noelle.

Undine laments not telling Loropechika about Saint Stage because Undine didn’t want to put pressure on Loropechika to be someone she isn’t. I really like how Noelle responds with, “But you did it out of kindness, didn’t you? Being kind, feeling affection for someone – how could these things ever be mistakes?!!” because it’s just so honestly Noelle. She knows what it’s like to be denied these things and to be allowed these things.

I also like by Undine underscoring Loropechika’s kind nature, it helps elevate the horror of Loropechika’s situation. Not only is she’s Vanica’s puppet, but Vanica is forcing her to do things Loropechika would never do.

You know, the little flair at the base of Noelle’s neck in Saint Valkyrie Armor mode would make such a cute short haircut for Noelle if she ever ditches the pigtails.

That said, I feel like I like parts of these armor and dislike parts of this armor. Like the bodies is cool and I like the use of scales as accents. I also like how her sword looks like she’d wielding a very long shark tooth or some kind of water monster fang. However, I’m curious about the aerodynamics of having your wings at the middle of the body rather than at the shoulders, although I can see how this might free up the shoulder muscles to swing the fang sword. And I know for as much as I wasn’t sure what to make of the whole chiseled boobs look of the first Valkyrie dress, I had to save at least attempting to protect the heart makes more sense than the holy cleavage Batman look we’ve got here.

Anyway, I am totally hyped for next week. I am here for this smack down. Even if it means we’re probably getting one step closer to completing the ritual. Just makes me even more curious what kind of tone chapter 300 is going to have when we get there.

i finished reading 泾渭情殇 - Jing Wei Qing Shang - Clear and Muddy Loss of Love and have several comments.

Not too Spoiler-y

- The schemes really do last all 300+ chapters and there are a lot of revenge schemes.

- Quite a few parts get pretty dark.

- It’s mostly presented from Qi Yan | Qiyan Agula’s and Nangong Jingnu’s POV.

- Wasn’t sure what to expect when the author said there was a happy ending despite all the things that happened between the main two, but it could apply. One of the better ways it could realistically end I suppose.

- “Ruse of Self-Inflicted Suffering” Indeed. Very applicable. Iconic words for this novel.

- Was enjoyable throughout. There are two Acts in the book basically and it covers the main pairing in their youth to their “retirement”.

More specific comments (w/ spoilers) under the readmore

- The amount of Times Nangong Jingnu is all “Wow, Qi Yan is prettier than woman”. The fact that the ministers in court notice that Qi Yan has not grown any facial hair despite everyone else having grown some and people thinking that she’s shaving because that’s her wife’s preference.

- Qiyan Agula’s unintended pining from the beginning to the end really did end up saving her life lol, kudos to the doting for ur enemy.

- so all three Nangong sisters had relationships w/ women at some point huh. And 2/3 stayed in said relationships. Nice.

- Was Ding You into Qiyan Agula? Was Gu Rolan also into Qiyan Agula? and Nangong Lie for a bit also?

- Qiyan Agula is canonically handsome.

- Qiyan Agula also almost dies more than a few times. The path of revenge is not kind to her. not at all. Needs more post-canon fluff. Where’s the post-canon memory recovery fluff fanfic that the people need. But also the fanfic expanding on what Qiyan Agula does w/ the rest of her life after revenge besides remarrying Nangong Jingnu in that fishing village. Throughout the novel, it seems to be implied that she actually would be a good teacher and it seems to be what she settles on in the end, but that’s because Ding You got it for her so she stopped staying inside all day and pretty much doing nothing. Story ends on that hopeful note that Qiyan Agula probably eventually recovers her memory with Nangong Jingnu, but the specifics aren’t given as the POV is more from an outside narrator than one of the two main characters at this point.

- First translated webnovel I actually finished reading and the one I’ll figure out how to use JJWXC for. I liked the premise and the plot throughout. The prose was unfamiliar to me, but didn’t end up being a pro or a con. I really liked it. Took about 3-ish weeks to get through it.

- Ch 65 : QiJing vibing by a koi pond and Qi Yan plays the Xiao. That’s kinda gay.

- Ch 76 : Damn, I wish there was a official design for Jiya. Also Nangong Jingnu almost discovers Qi Yan is a woman bc of the pierced ear, but not quite. Tender moment in this chapter. Nice.

- Ch 110 : A description of Qi Yan’s default appearances (One of the few specific descriptions in the entire thing, for fanart purposes if that ever happens)

- Ch 119 : Jiya and Nangong Shunu did what

- Ch 130 : Twins have been born under fucky circumstances.

- Ch 144 : Qi Yan and Nangong Jingnu have a playful moment in the rain. It’s cute. Fanart?

- Ch 145 : Oh, Qi Yan cried in front of Nangong Jingnu. Stress and guilt is bad for ur health.

- Ch 146 & 147 : Nangong Shunu and Qiyan Nomin did what? Oh, also the Fuma estate was set on fire. R.I.P.

- Ch 295 : The Grand Court Meeting. Reinstate the Husband. All this after Qian Tong put in that complaint. See, it pays to make loyal allies.

Now all I can think about is the lead singer lying in valentines in Paramore’s “The Only Exception” video. That is how I’m coping with the opening panel apparently.

There’s something really sad seeing All For One gain control of Shigaraki with a hand over Shigaraki’s face.

AFO says, “Oh, worthless Izuku Midoriya… when this body is perfected, we shall meet again.” Given some comments at Jump Festa this year, I’m hoping this means that a part one is ending rather than the whole story.

That said, it’s still kind of sad if Shigaraki never regains control of his body. Though it’s much like Toga has been asking, aren’t villains also worth saving? Maybe if this is the end of a part one, part two can start exploring such things.

Oh thank goodness. Midoriya says, “Shigaraki, you killed so many of us! And hurt countless others. That is unforgivable. It's unforgivable, and yet, back there when you got swallowed up by All For One, at that moment, the look on your face… You looked like you needed saving!” And I’m really happy because this is exactly where I want things to go if we get to experience second year. I mean if you think about it, Shigaraki and AFO are like Vegeta and Freiza in many ways, so it’s good to know Midoriya has started to clue into this. I also like how Bakugou and Midoriya’s estrangement ending leads into the potential for some connection to form between Shigaraki and Midoriya as well. It’s a good way to continue with a similar theme of reaching out and healing while changing things up and approaching it from another angle. I really hope we get to see it.
