hey! i haven't seen mha in a looong time and i've never payed attention to bakudeku (mostly because i'm not the biggest fan of bully romance), but i'd love to see your take/interpretation/analysis on it? i've been a really big fan of your svsss metas and so i just thought, "hey, you know what, i'm curious to see zykamiliah's take on a ship i've never been interested in from an anime that i haven't seen in years! maybe i'll see something?"
not too sure if you already made a post explaining it (so sorry if you did!), but i've seen enough of the sudden rise of bakudeku reblogs on my feed from your account to ignite my curiosity lol
i just really enjoy hearing about ships because they're an amazing opportunity to explore dynamics and perspectives i've never given much thought/thought about before (coming from a rare pair lover... oh gyx/lbg, my sweet...) so i'd love to see bakudeku, a ship i don't quite understand (yet!) in a more understanding, different, and interesting light! and in complete honesty i trust your judgement with insightful character and ship analysis stuff, so... yeah!
heeey jade! sorry for the wait, i've been busy with work and irl stuff :DDD but i'm here now!
where to even begin lol... well, it's important to note that the relationship between midoriya izuku, the protagonist, and bakugo katsuki, the deuteragonist, is one of the main narrative lines of the manga, at the very core of the story. katsuki is izuku's narrative foil, their character developments are intrinsically connected (specially katsuki's!), and the same can be said about the themes of heroism, of what makes a hero, who can be a hero, what type of hero society needs, or if it needs them at all, etc., questions that also tie to the evolution of their relationship.
so from the start i was sold on this dynamic because i really like relationships that are at the center of a story!! i also like relationships with a complicated history with lots of drama and ups and downs, and i like that each character has their own things going on in their lives even if they are connected and one of the most important persons in each other's lives. big big bonus guaranteed to get my full attention if they are obsessed with each other lol
the thing is, deku and bakugo are in a bad place when the story kicks in. bakugo isn't an active bully, in the sense that he doesn't constantly seek deku out to hurt him, but he IS horribly mean and hostile, and that's because for years he's felt threatened by deku (and deku's heroic qualities), and wants to push him away, because he also feels that deku is looking down on him. the story doesn't shy away from showing and acknowledging that bakugo's behavior is atrocious and needs to change, and it works towards it consistently: he eventually atones, apologizes, and changes. on the other side of the coin, deku has always been paying attention to bakugo and, despite how the latter treated him, would chase him, observe him to the point he has bakugo's moves memorized, takes inspiration from his fighting style and even imitates him to give himself courage to do something specially daring and when he wants to "win" more than "save"; bakugo is his image of victory, ever since they were kids.
i scrolled through my bkdk meta tag, since it's been yeeeeears since i was involved in the fandom, lol, and found this post that tackles the bullying issue specifically and makes some very good points, if you wanted to read it! :D
the manga eventually addresses the problems in their relationship in "Deku vs Kacchan 2" (chapters 117-119), at the time bakugo is feeling turmoils for the part he played in All Might's end. to the question of "why does deku chase and care about bakugo if bakugo is so mean to him?" ch 119 has deku answer that himself:
this fight is the turning point for their relationship, and for the rest of the manga their individual and dual development is mostly upwards. reading bnha is worth it, if anything, just for the beauty of bakugo katsuki's development.
another big aspect that got me hooked in their relationship from the very first anime episode (and first opening) is that they are
✨Childhood Friends✨
(strap in this is gonna get loooooooooong)
Childhood friends (Osananajimi) is kind of a huge trope in manga/anime, often as a romantic interest. According to some sources i quickly consulted in the internet, and some of the manga/anime I've watched, in Japanese culture osananajimi is considered one of the purest bond formed between people, with a level of closeness equal to that between blood relatives; formed at such an early age, at a time when societal restrictions didn't apply yet, the relationship is genuine because they still didn’t need or know how to hide their true feelings from each other. As the childhood friends grew up together, this is considered a special connection, somewhat different to those formed after societal norms and perceptions take precedence. Or, as makeste put it:
here we have two very young children who are introduced to each other at an age when they’re still young enough to have absolutely no secrets. they’re young enough to have not yet learned to be shy or self-conscious, or to downplay their enthusiasm so as not to let others know they care. kids that young don’t hide anything. they don’t lie or deceive. they don’t have agendas, and they assume that others don’t either. it is, in short, a very pure type of relationship in the sense that it’s honest and uncomplicated, that it is exactly what it appears to be at face value. their personalities are fully out there with no attempt at reining anything in. Katsuki witnesses the full force of Izuku’s boundless hero-worshipping energy and enthusiasm. Izuku witnesses the full extent of Katsuki’s relentless confidence and Peter Pan cockiness. both boys see each other for who they are in their entirety, and accept each other. this is a fundamental bond. there is trust built between the two of them at a critical, formative age. it’s a relationship formed so early on that it’s likely that neither of them can actually recall a time before they met the other. they are and have always been a constant in each other’s lives. they’re a lot like siblings in terms of that kind of closeness and complete understanding of the other, both the good and the bad. in fact I’d say that Izuku’s use of “Kacchan” (and Katsuki’s automatic acceptance of it) isn’t that different from a younger brother’s use of “Niisan” for his older brother. it’s very revealing of the type of relationship they have. and that includes the typical sibling squabbles as well. it’s very much a relationship that’s taken for granted; there’s no filter, no effort to hold back, no attempt at trying to tone down their behavior around one another. there is whining and bragging and squabbling and name-calling and tears, just as much as there is cooperation and respect and trust. because at the end of the day, the assumption is that the relationship will endure no matter what, so they can go at each other as hard as they can and it doesn’t matter. the other one’s presence is just a given. that’s the kind of relationship that this term “childhood friends” really encapsulates, I think.
The sudden change of their statuses when the quirks start to manifest is a major factor that placed them on opposite sides of the social hierarchy, and conditioned the way society and their peers would treat them. But despite this and the misunderstandings that happen between them and the falling apart of their relationship, the subconscious understanding between them remains intact through the years. They always flashback to their earlier memories. They probably didn't interact much in elementary or middle school, and even if they did, they interactions were already tainted by their social status and Bakugo’s hostility. They don't share their innermost feelings with anyone but each other. Like when Deku gets angry or determined to win and to surpass him, or when Bakugo screams and cries out his emotional turmoil at Deku. According to Japanese social rules those are selfish things to do. This relates to the concepts of honne and tatemae.
Japanese society is more regimented than one might believe just from watching anime. By middle school age, and even to some degree in primary school, children are expected to interact with their peers in a relatively professional way. This is especially true of relationships between students of opposite sexes. Such requirements aren't held for family or close friends, but for everyone else one is expected to be polite and not share their true feelings or say things too directly. This concept of dividing people into an in-group and an out-group (内外, uchi-soto) is somewhat hard for non-Japanese people to understand, but is central to interactions between people in Japanese culture. In fact, you can find plenty of examples of this and of the related concepts of honne and tatemae in anime if you look, but if you aren't looking for them specifically it's easy to miss. (source)
So, for example, you shouldn't show your true feelings/thoughts to other people, even more if they aren’t socially acceptable, because that may disturb the peace in the community. But because Deku and Kacchan are osananajimi that have known each other their whole life, that doesn't apply to them. By stating from the very beginning that Kacchan was Deku's childhood friend, Hori put them in a close relationship with each other with a level of intimacy, trust and a subconscious understanding not like any other. Kacchan is, in fact, closer to him than All Might himself.
Like, Deku has been calling Bakugo by his childhood nickname, Kacchan ("Ka[tsu]" from Katsuki + "-chan", which is usually used to address children or females in an affectionate way), even past the age he was excepted it to drop it. When they were 4 years old, the other kids called him "Kacchan" too, but growing up it would be seen as childish or disrespectful so they start to call him "Katsuki" or "Bakugo". This puts a level of distance between him and his peers that, regardless of what happened between them, didn't extend to Deku and Katsuki. And it had to cross Deku's mind at some point ( "Should I start calling him Katsuki/Bakugo too?") but he didn't or simply couldn't. Despite everything, he wasn't willing to put even more distance between himself and Bakugo. He deliberately refused to put formal distance between them, and more importantly, Bakugo just LET THAT BE.
___
Like, this was a great set up from the beginning for me. I knew there was a story there from the first episodes, and then "Deku vs Kacchan 1" happened, showing their childhood flashbacks and the misunderstandings that would persist until DvK2, and i was really into that lol They relationship was one of the main reasons I followed the manga.
i mean LOOK at THIS!
how i could NOT ship it i mean come on
Even their color schemes complement each other, and their costumes have the same/similar colors. they are are complementary opposites that share the same core: to become a hero, their admiration of All Might. Each of them has a quality the other lacks and needs to work on to become the heroes: heroes that win and save, as All Might put it. Selflessness and Selfishness: to help and save others, in one side, and to care for one's personal victory, in the other. Bakugo was obsessed with victory and glory, and Deku was willing to do anything to save others, to the point of self-destruction. These isolated qualities didn't made them good heroes, but combined, as the two learn them from each other, by the end of the story they really become two of the greatest heroes.
This connects with their rivalry, which is richer than any other in the manga because of the many layers to their relationship: they are obsessed with each other, want to compete with each other (for the rest of their lives!!!) and don't want the other to fall behind, specially after their misunderstandings are resolved. They also don't want to be left behind by the other. Because they love each other too much! Whether people interpret it as platonic or romantic or whatever in between (secret third they are like like four different types of greek love categories combined), they are each other's More Important Person outside of family members. Hell, Kacchan getting hurt is basically Deku's berserk button: he punches All Might in the face to save Katsuki during the end of term exam; he goes crazy protective and possessive when Katsuki gets kidnapped by the League of villains(Mr. Compress even calls him out lmao)
he goes crazy when Katsuki is hurt in front of him
and when he thought katsuki had died...
i mean. look at this romantic shit.
_
lol and i feel like i'm leaving many other stuff behind, like Bakugo's apology, and all the little moments after DvK, and all the times in the last arc where Bakugo was thinking about Izuku constantly, and the finale where Katsuki cried because Deku had given up OFA and was going to be quirkless again, and the fact that he was at the heart of the mecha suit years-long project because he wanted Izuku's dream, their dreams, to come true. but tbh I only read them the one time and need to reread the whole manga again to refresh my knowledge. and i already shipped them before all this haha.
they are amazing characters in a really well done shonen manga they have a beautiful story 🧡💚
#aaaaaah finally i've been thinking about this all week#and i don't think i've said everything i wanted to say lol but my thoughts are too disorganized#if you want to talk about it more you can DM me :D#i was proudly with the club of people shipping them before it was cool and stopped being controversial#the issue with the bad fan translations made things look worse than they were in the beginning#and like that set the tone in the fandom for a looooong time until DvK2 and beyond i think#bnha#bakudeku#bkdk#zykamiliah-bnha#dekubaku#katsudeku#ask zy#dkbk#deku and kacchan#my hero academia#boku no hero academia#deku & kacchan

there seems to be a problem with navigating to certain chapters. when you click on "next" on the ch 116 post, it doesn't go to the next chapter. when you click on ch 117 on the master post, it still doesn't go to it. also, going to ch 119 can only be done by pressing "next" on the ch 118 post. it doesn't open when you click on ch 119 on the master post. same w/ ch 120-125, the links on the master post dont go to them and u can only navigate to them by pressing "next" on the previous ch posts
Oof, thanks for the heads up!
Not sure what happened to the links to 117 but I fixed them now
The 119-125 links from the masterpost seem to be working for me though? I went through them one by one, and they're definitely the same links that are used in chapters themselves...
Are you on web or on the app? ...I'll go check how it works on the app.
...
On further investigation, the links seem to be broken on the app. I do not understand how or why, but several links get lumped together even though, again, they're fine on the web. I tried editing the 119 link and it just broke the 118 link, too.
Anyway, I deleted and redid that part of the masterpost from scratch, so everything should work now, but please let me know if something breaks again.

Quotes from The Code:
ARRIVALS
“If you had technical brilliance, it didn’t matter where you came from or how you behaved. Arrogant jerks got a pass, as long as they built and delivered greatness.
That’s how you got to the engineer and the sheep. ” P 115
“[Bob Widlar] He didn’t believe anyone over thirty could design anything worthwhile”
“His lack of an engineering degree became an advantage as he acted as translator and mediator, explaining the tight little world of young chip companies to the broader universe beyond it. You needed to educate customers, building share in existing markets and discovering entirely new ones. You needed to tell compelling stories about the tech coming out of the tilt-ups, and about the personalities who made it.” P 116
Ch 7 The olympics of capitalism
“The guys back in New York and D.C. call this place ‘Silicon Valley,’” a couple of visiting sales managers informed Hoefler over lunch one day. Short, memorable, and a little jokey—silicon was built on sand, after all—the name was exactly what the reporter needed to describe this laid-back, entrepreneurial slice of Northern California to his readers. “Silicon Valley, U.S.A.,” blazed Hoefler’s header on the cover of Electronic News’ January 11, 1971, issue. The name turned out to be a keeper.” P 117
“The charismatic personalities and intensely competitive culture of the semiconductor industry made for great copy, and America certainly needed some new heroes.
The Wagon Wheel was a good place to find them. As big contractors and aerospace companies up and down the West Coast went into their post-Vietnam tailspin, the chipmakers boomed.” P 118
“Wall Street analysts had no interest in following the semiconductor industry (“The computer industry is IBM,” one coolly informed Regis McKenna), and The Wall Street Journal refused to write about any company that wasn’t listed on the stock exchange. Making Silicon Valley more illegible to the wider world was the fact that its firms sold to other electronics companies, not to consumers. An Intel chip might be inside the computer down the hall or in the calculator on your desk, but you wouldn’t know it.” P 119
“Marketed as “a computer on a chip,” the Intel 4004 made its public debut with an ad in Electronic News in November 1971, less than a year after Hoefler’s giddy series gave Silicon Valley its name. Only a few months later, Intel followed on with the release of the twice-as-powerful 8008, followed by the 8080 in 1974” p 120
“ But their blueprint for making microchips at scale wasn’t the mass-production assembly line of Henry Ford. It was the franchise model of McDonald’s hamburgers. Manufacturing grew by building small-to-medium fabrication plants across the country and, increasingly, overseas.8
Within headquarters, chip executives grouped their employees into small teams that competed against one another to develop the best product. “Big is bad,” Bob Noyce declared in a keynote address to a group of businessmen in December 1976.” P 121
“ Intel avoided hiring people over age thirty. But this wasn’t a search for anti-establishment rebels—it was a quest to find people with ambition to create a new industry.” P 122
“If you are a capitalist—and I am—you graduate to the Olympics of capitalism by starting new businesses,” one Silicon Valley executive told Bylinsky.” p 122
“The hiring habits set in place by the semiconductor companies continued over the Valley’s successive technological generations. By the end of the 1990s, dot-com-era firms were filling close to 45 percent of engineering vacancies by referrals from current employees. By the 2010s, software giants were throwing “Bring a Referral” happy hours and offering up free vacations and cash bonuses to employees who helped snag a successful hire. It made sense: topflight engineering distinguished great tech companies from the merely good”p 123
“Everyone knew who came in early and snagged the best spots by the front door. Everyone saw whose car lingered in the parking lot long after dark”p 123
“translated into business organizations where work overtook family life, unvarnished criticism was the norm, and self-doubt was a fatal weakness.” P124
“If we include you, then we need to include all the spouses.” Why is that a problem? she asked. “Well,” he said matter-of-factly, “we only go to these offsite meetings so we can spend our evenings with prostitutes.” Hardy marched off to CEO Tom O’Rourke to complain. The organizer disappeared. Hardy wasn’t sure what happened to the prostitutes.15” p 124
“The organization charts of these growing companies looked a lot like those of typical “old economy” corporations. They featured all the requisite support functions (sales, marketing, human resources) that had become critical to doing business in the modern era. Yet they differed in important ways. For one, they moved through product cycles far more quickly than other kinds of manufacturing,” p 124-125
“Atari took California casual to a whole new level.” (Game company that took off) p 125
“Atari’s products were exactly the right diversion from inflation-wracked family incomes and oil-embargoed hours spent waiting in line for gas.”p 126
“And while all of American society was utterly saturated in politics, the Silicon Valley crowd appeared remarkably (and to many, reassuringly) unconnected to the political. Their politics was an ideology of working hard, building great technology, and making lots of money along the way.”“Nearly all of them were transplants from somewhere else, their loyalties and social bonds all lay with the industry that brought them there, and they remained remarkably untouched by the local political culture.” P 127
“Democratic-led, with a growing minority population, and a strong labor union presence. The political mobilization of its white middle class was limited mostly to pushing for growth controls and land conservation measures that would limit the pell-mell development in the flatlands from creeping up the coastal hills.19” p 127
“From where they sat, common backgrounds strengthened common purpose, and success entailed immersive focus on building the best possible product.
The first generation of tech titans who rose up in Fred Terman’s penumbra in the middle of the century—Dave Packard, especially—later became deeply involved in regional civic and political affairs. Packard chaired the Stanford Board of Trustees, founded a regional economic development group, and was a donor and mentor to a generation of state and local politicians” p 128
“To be sure, the men and women of the postwar electronics scene mobilized politically when it came to issues with a direct impact on their homes and neighborhoods.” P 128
“The volatile high-tech era demanded new agility, and Boston didn’t have it. The horizontal networks of Silicon Valley—a webbing of firm and VC, lawyer and marketer, journalist and Wagon Wheel barstool—did.” P 131
Chapter 8: Power to the People
“To change the rules, change the tools.” This was Lee Felsenstein’s mott”p 133
“Building a tool for a Fortune 500 company would tend not to fulfill me,” he declared. “Building tools that people use to make Fortune 500 companies irrelevant—that’s more my style.” ”“He spent the next few years bouncing back and forth across the Bay between Berkeley and the newly christened Silicon Valley, continuing to pursue his dream of building technical tools that would allow people to escape the establishment’s clutches, and possibly overthrow the system altogether.” P 135
“On top of it all, American schools remained civil rights battlegrounds, as continuing integration struggles had given way to fiercely contested court-ordered busing. These measures prompted some white parents to violently resist, and many others to opt out of public school systems altogether. Alternative schooling movements like Montessori and Waldorf spiked in popularity.” P 137
“But Loop’s lack of formal training in computing ultimately became an asset, enabling her to push past technical jargon and explain to ordinary people—kids, teachers, and especially girls and women like her—how computers could become part of their lives.” P 138
“Many were like Lee Felsenstein: Sputnik-generation boys with science-fair ribbons who’d collided head-on with the cultural liberation of the Vietnam era. They proudly called themselves “hackers,” relentlessly future-focused, suspicious of centralized authority, pulling all-nighters to write the perfect string of code. They demonstrated superior technical talent by infiltrating (and sometimes deliberately crashing) institutional computer networks. Overlapping their ranks were the renegade “phone phreaks” who discovered how to use high-pitched signals to break into AT&T’s networks and enjoy long-distance calls for free”“But a good number were also like Liza Loop: baby boomers drawn to computers by a passion to change the way society worked, especially in how it educated a new generation.” P 138
“Knowledge is power and so it tends to be hoarded,” exhorted Nelson. “Guardianship of the computer can no longer be left to a priesthood” who refused to build computers that could be understood by ordinary people” p 139
“Such technophilia also made this change-the-world movement oddly conservative when it came to disrupting conventional gender roles, reckoning with society’s racism, or acknowledging yawning economic and educational inequalities.”p 140
“For some of these technologists, a singular focus on computing was an escape from identity politics. For others, tech was an answer to social inequities. The overwhelmingly white and middle-class group had faith that “access to tools” would fix it all.” P 140
“We are simultaneously experiencing a youth revolution, a sexual revolution, a racial revolution, a colonial revolution, an economic revolution, and the most rapid and deep-going technological revolution in history.” P 142
“He talked about how electronic communications would enable a splintering of mass culture into thousands of different, specialized channels where everyone could get their own, specially tailored news. He talked of how inundation by information would reduce attention spans and increase skepticism toward expert authority. He pointed out how much the U.S. already had shifted toward a service economy, and how information technologies accelerated that shift.” ““Americans had understood technology as a big-organization tool to solve large-scale problems—war, famine, poverty, education, transportation, and communication.”P 143
“he wrote. “Raw data are now extracted in much the same way teeth are pulled: either under the ether of uninformed consent or ripped out by the roots.” “Programmers might not yet know what to do with all this data, but accelerating computer power indicated that they soon would. As Paul Baran of RAND reminded one inquiring journalist, “Behind all this creating of records is the implicit assumption that they will someday be of use.”P 145 “Congress hurriedly bundled together a flurry of legislative proposals to pass the Privacy Act of 1974” p 145
“But all were pushing the same message: the power of the computer came from its user” p 147
Chapter 9: The Personal Machine
“For nine days in April 1969, several hundred students occupied the Stanford Applied Electronics Lab, demanding that the university put an end to classified research. Soon after, university administrators cut ties with SRI and its controversial portfolio of classified projects. ” p 148
“As the cash rolled in, Xerox decided to follow the example of its more venerable predecessors like AT&T, and set up a stand-alone research facility. And where better to do it than Palo Alto? Top electronics firms had been setting up labs in Fred Terman’s orbit for two decades by then, and no other place could match the combination of Class A real estate, Class A engineering talent, and Class A weather.” P 150
“Xerox had assembled an all-star team. But its Palo Alto facility first entered the broader public consciousness as a looser” p 151
“It was unlike nearly every other computer in existence, in that you did not need to be a software programmer to use it.” P 152
“If work is to become play,” the spread proclaimed at the top, “then tools must become toys.”
Like so much of what appeared in the PCC, the Tom Swift article wasn’t just a set of engineering specs. It made a pitch for a new political philosophy. ” p153
“As Illich had put it, “Changes in management are not revolutions.” The inequities of society stemmed from the industrial mode of production, and they wouldn’t end unless the platform itself changed.”p 154
“Felsenstein summed up the philosophy in a nutshell: “You don’t have to leave industrial society, but you don’t have to accept it the way it is.” “Despite outward appearances, the generation was remarkably different from that of their parents, continuing on its search for personal fulfillment and freedom from the conformity of their youth. They practiced yoga, retreated to Esalen, and attended EST seminars. They came out of the closet, got out of the kitchen, and marched for women’s rights and the Equal Rights Amendment” P 155
“Liza Loop wanted to demystify computers, not glorify them. In her view, human teachers remained central to the success of the computer-aided classroom. “The computer is only a medium of communication between teacher and student,” she told the classes she visited. “It can never replace the teacher.” P 157
Chapter 10: Homebrewed
“While high-intensity hackers dominated the Homebrew scene, the stunningly rapid ascent of personal (or “micro”) computing—and the enduring legend of the Homebrew Computer Club—had a lot to do with the Liza Loops: people who weren’t necessarily lifetime hobbyists, but evangelists passionate about the computer’s possibilities and able to translate the insider language of tech to bring the story to a wider world” p 161
“The impact of the personal computer will be comparable to that of a gun,” he remarked. “The gun equalized man’s physical differences, and the private computer will do the same for his intellect.” P 162
Chapter 11: Unforgettable
“The Valley had its silicon capitalists of the semiconductor and computer hardware industries as well as its distinctive club of venture investors on the hunt for the next big thing. Certainly, the chipmakers had many other things on their minds in 1975 and 1976. Their big customers were the old-school mainframe and minicomputer makers as well as the car companies, watch manufacturers, and other kinds of companies putting microchips”p 163
“ In short order, the hobbyists in garages morphed into entrepreneurs.”p 166
“Apple was the first personal-computer company to join the silicon capitalists” p 170
“The result was the Apple I, a simple wooden box that looked like it came out of a tenth-grade shop class, encasing a circuit board of supremely elegant design”
“On April Fools’ Day, 1976, the two Steves and a third partner, Ron Wayne, started Apple Computer Co. The first logo, designed by Wayne, had the retro-hippie design beloved by techie newsletters like the PCC and Dr. Dobb’s. It featured Isaac Newton sitting under a tree, surrounded by words uttered not by Newton, but by William Wordsworth: “A mind forever voyaging through strange seas of thought—alone.” The inaugural sales flyer was similarly loopy, with a typo in the first sentence” p171
“Jobs persuaded Paul Terrell at the Byte Shop to buy fifty units of the Apple I, which Terrell agreed to do under one condition: no kits. The machines needed to be fully assembled. In a move that Apple’s marketers later made sure to burnish into company legend”
“These two founders were very young and kind of strange, but the Valley was full of strange tech people, and the Apple II was exciting” “ By December 1976, Regis McKenna had taken on Apple as a client and drafted a comprehensive marketing plan, recorded in tight cursive in a narrow-ruled spiral notebook.” “The people we were trying to reach was very specific,” McKenna explained. “The hobbyist looking to the next level, affordable computer, people who had programming skills and built their own computers from kits.” Yet the Apple II was also for those who weren’t already homebrewing: “professionals such as teachers, engineers, or people who would put in the time and effort to learn how to use this new computer.” P 173
“Despite the proliferation of new entrepreneurs, the first Faire had a program and a vibe that was more Whole Earth Catalog than Wall Street Journal. Panels focused on the change-the-world potential of computing, with titles like “If ‘Small is Beautiful,’ is Micro Marvelous? A Look at Micro-Computing as if People Mattered” and “Computer Power to the People: The Myth, the Reality, and the Challenge.” There were sessions on computers for the physically disabled, and four panels on using personal computers in education (Liza Loop appeared on one of them). Novices were welcomed with their own panel on “An Introduction to Computing to Allow you to Appear Intelligent at the Faire.” Business uses were rarely mentioned, aside from considering “Computers and Systems for Very Small Businesses.” For $4, attendees could buy an official conference t-shirt that read, “Computer Phreaques Make Exacting Lovers.” P 174
“By the time Homebrew began and Dr. Dobb’s published the code for Tiny BASIC, it was common understanding that personal-computer software was to be shared, “liberated” from corporations, and given away for free.”p 176
“he two had decamped from Boston to Albuquerque, and Traf-O-Data had a new name: Micro-soft” “The young entrepreneur was furious, and fired off the angry note that would go down in tech history as “The Gates Letter.” In it, Gates drew enduring battle lines in the tech world. On the one side, there were the people who believed information—software—should be proprietary data, protected and paid for. On the other side were those who believed in a software universe like Homebrew: where people shared and swapped, iterated and improved, and didn’t charge a cent”.p 179
“The microcomputer might have remained a funny little toy if it hadn’t been for the educators and evangelists and marketers who showed how it could work in the classroom, in the office, and as home entertainment.” “America and Western Europe were awash in data, and increasingly distrustful of the institutions and experts who managed that data. The personal computer held the promise of reclaiming control.”P 180
CH 12: Risky Business
““If tech companies were job creators, then Washington must act to fix the horrible climate for venture investment. ” p 187
“Even though business lobbying was surging in the 1970s, WEMA had only just hired its first Washington representative. Headquarters remained in Palo Alto, three thousand miles away from the corridors of power”p 188
“The tech community sent its lobbying efforts into overdrive. The Californians beefed up WEMA into a national group, rebranding it as the American Electronics Association, or AEA.”“The energetic platoon bombarded the Hill with white papers. They testified at hearing after hearing that high taxes on tech were “killing the goose that lays those golden eggs.” P 193
“The venture capitalists and the Valley could not have found a better spokesman. With heartland credentials and friends across the Hill, Steiger was earnest, methodical, and knew how to land a political punch. He also grasped that the tax issue was as much an issue of psychology as it was of economics. “Capital gains taxes are even more important as a determinant of investment decisions than they are as a producer of revenue,”p 194
“Importantly, Democrats, who’d long considered these tax breaks as something that unfairly benefitted the rich, began to buy into the narrative. One Washington Post op-ed in support of the bill did a clever retake on New Deal rhetoric by calling the American investor “today’s ‘forgotten man.”p 195
“said one analyst. “People want to keep taxes on investments low in case they strike it rich themselves someday.” “It’s obvious,” observed the Post’s editorial board that June, “that there has been a profound change in basic opinions about the tax structure—particularly among Democrats.” P 195
“The White House had to back down. In the autumn of 1978, Carter signed a sweeping tax reform law that looked very different from the populist package he’d introduced only months earlier. And there within it was the work of Bill Steiger: a capital gains tax cut to 28 percent.” P 195
“The same players continued to lobby an even lower capital gains rate throughout the 1980s” ““And the personal computer finally reached the technological and price point that made a large consumer market possible.”p 196

TGCF SPOILERS FOR BOOK 3!!
But before I get to what dots I connected...
Holy omgGG the chaos, the waters, the rescueee jefnwojn I literally CANNOT wait til this arc gets animated its INSANEE
I need a fashion show staring Hua Cheng
Xie Lian closed the communication array down and turned to Hua Cheng. “San Lang, over at the East Sea…”
Unexpectedly, the moment he turned his head, he saw Hua Cheng had already changed into a refreshing fisherman disguise. He tossed up the dice and caught them as they fell. His other hand was on the door, and he said straightforwardly, “Let’s go!”
It's so cute how he was already prepared ejfnoewnlq
I noticed something..
He laughed. “I’m not anyone unrelated, I’m only following my highness.
HE SAYS MY HIGHNESS NOT HIS HIGHNESS WHEN ADDRESSING XIE LIAN DIWBFJNOWJNF IM CRYING I CANT, THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR ME
I really can't imagine what Shi Qingxuan must be going through, but like is it fair that all power should be stripped away???
Shi Qingxuan clenched his right fist. That hand used to hold the Wind Master fan. With but one swing, it could’ve provided a tailwind, making the ship go at least four times faster. Yet now, the hand was empty, and he couldn’t help but exhale a long sigh.
it kinda hurts :/
Oh. my. God. OH MY GOOOD
It was a funny feeling. Hua Cheng was clearly taller than him, and it took him no effort to hold Xie Lian up with one hand, yet Xie Lian always felt that he was light as a feather; like if he didn’t pay attention, Hua Cheng would disappear. So, Xie Lian’s grasp was firm and tight. Hua Cheng, too, clutched his hand back at the same time.
YOU DONT UNDERSTAND IT'S NOT- I DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO SAY IT JBEFBEOFJNLQNF IT'S IN THE SOFT TOUCHES, IT'S IN THE KNOWING WHAT HE WANTS BEFORE HE ASKS FOR IT, IT'S IN THE MIRRORING ACTIONS OF LOVE BETWEEN THEM, IT'S IN THE STRENGTH THEY GIVE EACH OTHER AND SECURITY OF KNOWING YOU AREN'T ALONE, IT'S IN THE SUBTLETY OF IT ALL EJBFKJEFEJFN iM IN TEARS THIS SCENE JUST KILLED ME
I get all the other cute stuff is like aww cute, but there's something about this line that I don't know, it just enamored me
I- ugh I hate him (said with minuscule affection, very VERY minuscule)
With his hands, Pei Ming used all that water to slick back his hair
You see? THIS IS WHY I HATE HIM
In such a situation, Pei Ming still acted the same. In the evening, when they rescued a few fishermen girls, so scared their eyes were blurry from tears, he held them in his embrace and soothed them with a gentle voice; a true show of honeyed romance, affectionate and charming.
SEEE????? REASON NUMBER 22 WHY I HATE HIM (no, it's not the hair slicking, it's the rude interruption, but like also the hair sticking, plz stop)
Pei Ming heard them whispering to each other, and he slicked his hair up again.
“Have you two made some discoveries? Why don’t you leave your little world and tell the rest of us?”
YOU GO HUA CHENG
Pei Ming raised his brow. “This little buddy sure knows a lot.”
Hua Cheng mirrored his expression and replied, “It’s not much. You just know too little, that’s all.”
This made me laugh lol
They couldn’t possibly build a coffin, then off a person in the group and toss them in there
THE LITERAL IMAGERY, IM IN TEARS
Ming Yi was standing on top of the handle of a shovel, while Shi Qingxuan was sitting on the head of said shovel, waving at him
fine...credit for one scene. but like ONLY ONE SCENE
Pei Ming was a master swordsman. The moment when he sensed killing intent, his hand reached for his sword, only to realize said sword was under his feet. Luckily, his reaction was quick. With a leap, he grabbed his sword in mid-air and sliced the incoming creature in half.
Before gravity could take control, he flipped back onto the sword, with not a single hair out of place.
T-T
Xie Lian nodded. The familiarity of this scene suddenly brought memories of a similar situation that had happened not so long ago. Instantly, he felt his face heat up. With one hand wrapped around Xie Lian, Hua Cheng used his spare hand to stir and leisurely glide through the water.
“Gege, hold on to me. You’ll sink if you let go
HUA CHENG LOL NO-
“Gege, now you know. If you’re gonna get any pets in the future, definitely don’t consider those ones. They’re useless trash.”
But like this psycho would ACC get him one if he asked for it sbdqlibfifb
AND OMGGG WJBFIFBNWO:FJN
OOOOHHHH MYYYYGOOODDDD ITS MY FAVEEE SCENE IVE BEEEN WAITING FOR THE CPR SCENE FOR YEARS AND ITS HERE FBIWJBFOWJBFOWFN OHHH MY GOD IW{NFOWNFOWNF IT WAS WORTH IT SO WORTHHHH IT!!!!!!!
THE PATIENCE PAID OFF!!!!! JOWFNWFNOWFNO# IM CRYINGG #UHFF FNOF# OHIO#WJNFKJWN
Literally that one animatic/storyboard done by melt strules is like 80% of the reason why I love it so much and If you haven't seen it, IM LINKING IT RIGHT NOW
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNSNrx1etew
Ok. Ok. I've calmed down not really but like enough to coherently type up the dots I've (hopefully) connected.
So they said, Shi Wudu switched Shi Qingxuan's destiny with someone who matched in gender, day, month, and time born and had the name Xuan. We saw Scholar He who is out to get revenge because his fate was switched....which means his name was Xuan...He Xuan.... Ship-Sinking Black Water....
(And I knew this from centuries ago that earth master was He Xuan thanks to fanart lol)
BUT WHAT THE HECK WHAT THE HECKKKK WHAT THE HECK MING YI/HE XUAN WAS THE ONE WHOSE FATE WAS SWITCHED WHAT THE HECKKKKKK THIS IS INSANE SO ming yi is seeking revenge but they were best friends...what happened to best FRIENDS for life bfffl 😭😭😔 what about the friendship bracelets they exchanged, what about the girl codeeeee to never betray your bff????? Did u learn anything in your middle school life???
Clearly I lost my mind, plz don't mind me, IM just trying to calm down with all the cute stuff and plot twists, and as evident, I really can't
Oh man, poor poor Shi Qingxuan, I literally cannot see how much more worse it could get for the Wind Master after this is revealed, like it literally cannot...oh boi
ALSO, in retrospect, Xie Lian really connected the dots, I'm the slow one who put it in words lmao
But wow, what a wild ride haha

Detective Conan Chapters 117, 118, 119, 120, 121
PreReview Blurb: Episode 57 and 58 of the Anime. And deemed important in both lists. I’ve already seen the episode. and Actually went back to watch it after reading.
About the Case: Conan won some contest to some Sherlock Holmes sort of event. And of course, murder happens. The interesting elements of the this story is not the murder case. But the interactions between Harley Hartwell, I mean Heiji Hattori, and Conan. I suppose it’s because I’ve already it. But it’s Heiji that would be the reason I come back to reread or watch.
The motive of the killer was extremely selfish and over the top petty. Sounds like people were murdered cause someone got upset over some book someone wrote about Sherlock.
Enjoyment: 8/10. Mostly for Conan. He’s so cute and funny.
Favorite Moment: Every panel with Conan’s cute little face. Also, this made me laugh.
Relevance to the plot: IMPORTANT!
Heiji Hattori discovers Conan’s Secret.

The magnolia was especially fresh and delicate. Lan XiChen felt a bout of affection. He spread paper on his desk and painted by the window.
(Exiled Rebels, ch 125)
I really do love how much xiyao resonance this has. It's not obvious at first but magnolias in CR are consistently associated with the Library Pavilion (ch 18, 3 times; ch 63; ch 117; ch 119)—I think the only time other than this one there's a magnolia mentioned in CR and it's not about the Library Pavilion is when WWX is listing the kinds of flowers he usually sees in CR, in ch 63, so there's no location given.
And obviously wang//xian are very much associated with the Library Pavilion! But xiyao are too, albeit more subtly—the most obvious is perhaps the Song of Turmoil, but it's more than that. They meet when LXC has fled CR in part to protect the contents of that pavilion, and JGY saves him! The library is really important to the Lan, and LXC's success in saving it is so important that WRH actually has to downplay it in the speech he gives minimizing Sunshot's chances at the beginning of Sunshot ("although Lan XiChen was here to inherit the position of sect leader after he had moved the Library Pavillion, he was only a junior and couldn’t do anything much"; ER ch 61, emphasis mine).
And on top of this, the Library Pavilion is associated with the rebuilding of Cloud Recesses! Once in overheard conversation, where it's mentioned that the Lan have finished rebuilding the Library Pavilion, and wow that was so fast how did they do it (ch 76)—and once actually via the magnolias:
The Cloud Recesses had once been burnt down by a fire. The Library Pavilion wasn’t the Library Pavilion from back then. However, after it had been rebuilt, the interior setup was no different from the previous one. They had even planted another magnolia tree outside of the the pavilion.
(ER, ch 63)
The magnolia-Library Pavilion-xiyao association! It's subtle but I love it.
I can't help but think, too, that the LXC drawing carries some xiyao resonance. It's not that we wouldn't be able to infer that he was an excellent artist even if it was never explicitly mentioned, of course, but if I'm not mistaken the one time LXC's art is explicitly mentioned is in the context of WWX admiring the paintings he's given JGY:
On the walls [of JGY's study] were the four sceneries of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. In the first place, Wei WuXian didn’t intend to pay them any attention. After he glanced at them, however, he couldn’t help wanting to praise the artist’s skills. Both the colors and the brushstrokes were gentle, yet the landscapes appeared vast. Although only one scene resided on each paper, thousands of miles seemed to extend from it. Wei WuXian thought to himself that such skills were almost comparable to Lan XiChen’s, and couldn’t help taking a few more looks. Only afterward did he realize that the artist of the four sceneries indeed happened to be Lan XiChen.
(ER, ch 47)
Ch 125 is set before LXC has ever met JGY, but you get these little moments that resonate with xiyao... I love it 🥰

Hi Panda! I saw a post mention that the reason why MXTX has LWJ and WWX say they are "husband and wife" is because there's not another noun for married couple in Mandarin. Is that really true?
Hi there! That’s a topic that was the subject of much controversy and misinformation that spread like wildfire... I’ve seen ExR being accused of pushing an agenda for translating 夫妻 (fuqi) as “husband and wife” (ch.112, 119) and people claiming that the proper translation is supposedly the gender-neutral “married couple”. That’s not how Chinese works, that’s not how translation works. One-to-one correspondences between languages do not exist and words come with a linguistic and cultural context, not from a vacuum.
夫 is “husband”, 妻 is “wife”, together they mean both “husband and wife” and “married couple”. It is extremely common in Chinese to form compound words by juxtaposing or opposing two characters to refer to a broader concept encompassing the individual characters. To quote a few examples, 父母 (father+mother) refers to “parents”, 大小 (big+small) means “size”, 荣辱 (honour+disgrace) is “reputation”, the list goes on and on.
Having “husband+wife” as “married couple” and “father+mother” as “parents” is of course heteronormative but it’s also a reflection of what society was and still is to this day. New words were coined to refer to same-sex couples such as 夫夫 (fufu, husband+husband) but that’s modern terminology. It might be worthwhile to bring up the fact that 夫夫 is used multiple times by MXTX to refer to Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji outside of the novel itself. It’s on the webnovel frontpage as well as several chapter blurbs:
夫夫双双把山下 “The pair of husbands leave the mountain” (chapter blurb 20)
夫夫齐斩辣鸡洋,星岚箐尘埃落定。义城篇,完。”The husbands chop up trash [Xue] Yang, aftermath of [Xiao] Xing[chen], [Song] Lan and [A-]Qing, end of the Yi City arc”, there’s a pun in there as “trash” (垃圾 lājī) is written as the homophonous “spicy chicken” (辣鸡 làjī) (chapter blurb 42)
夫夫吃糖日常, ”Husbands eating sweets everyday”, eating sweets is internet slang for public displays of affection. (chapter blurb 116)
These are all written in a humorous and light-hearted way as you can see. This kind of tongue-in-cheek author notes don’t make it in physical copies when novels get published but they’re representative of the very casual tone full of slang allusions on webnovel platforms where novel recaps sort of sound like shitposts. With that said, I would be remiss not to mention that the blurb of chapter 7 is 霸道含光君的疯癫小逃妻???, “The overbearing Hanguang-Jun’s crazy runaway wife???”. This sounds terribly awkward but it’s referencing stereotypical characters in het romances such as the pushy CEO and the young woman who is wary at first but then fall madly in love with him. You know the type. There are plenty of those in novels written by Western authors as well.
While Chinese is not outwardly a particularly gendered language (no grammatical gender with distinct masculine and feminine forms as it is common in many Indo-European languages and other language families), it is a language in which social roles and positions are heavily codified as seen through the use of honorifics and this social divide intersects with male/female differentiation. For instance, there is a number of characters that can be used to signify “to marry”, like the gender-specific 娶 or 嫁 depending on whether the subject is a man or woman, the first character is composed of “取 take+ 女 woman” and the second of “女 woman + 家 home/family”. As I mentioned here, marriage was not equal in ancient times as the bride was leaving her family and entering her husband’s household. At the end of the novel, Wei Wuxian effectively marries into the Gusu Lan Sect, thus holding the social position that would traditionally be the wife’s part. What is interesting however is that the story and the main characters deconstruct typical gender roles. As I was saying, the Chinese language itself might not ostensibly gendered but Chinese traditional society certainly was. There’s a saying that goes 男耕女织, “Men plough and women weave” to describe pastoral life. That should remind you of Wei Wuxian’s dream (ch.67, 117), he has no qualms imaging himself as the one working the fields and doing outdoor labour while Lan Wangji stays in their little cottage and does the housekeeping.
I’m finally coming back to your original question after a long-winded detour, are there other ways to refer to a married couple in Chinese besides the “husband+wife” 夫妻? Of course there are but 夫妻 is the most commonplace denomination. You have the similar 夫妇 (also “husband+wife”). 配偶 (”join+mate”) means “spouse” but that’s a term mostly used in the written language and not in the vernacular. There is the more literary 伉俪 (“matching+couple”) but that’s even more out of place in everyday speech (even if it were to be said by someone as articulate as Lan Wangji). If we want something more figurative, we have 鸳侣 (”mandarin duck+companion”), the equivalent of “lovebirds”. I’m sure there are many, many more synonyms. Then why is Lan Wangji using 夫妻 and not a more overtly gender-neutral option? Why doesn’t he say something like 我们已经结婚了, “We are already married” (this “marry” is written as “to unite/to form+wedding” and is not gender-specific)? Because what he says is context-wise appropriate and not problematic in the original Chinese.

The theory about ‘Sukuna’s going to eat (or try to eat) Megumi’ has a high probability to come true
This theory is cross-posted on posted on reddit. Contains spoilers for non-manga readers.
I know that (some) people are sick of this, but I’d like to point out something I’ve noticed from u/bushwarblerssong's post about the urban legend that inspired Gege to create Sukuna, which I think supports the ‘Sukuna will (try to) eat Megumi’ theory.
Gege said he created Sukuna based on an urban legend thread that was posted on 2chan.
The summary of this urban legend thread;
> A construction worker found a 2 meter wooden box with ‘Ryoman Sukuna ??? is sealed’ written on it at the old temple his company was demolishing. Fyi he was the one who posted the thread, so I’ll refer to him as 2chan guy just like bushwarblerssong did on their post.
> 2chan guy called the former priest of the temple & told him about the box.
> The priest told 2chan guy to not open the box.
> Two of 2chan guy’s coworkers opened the box for fun, then they became sick (mute + dazed) & hospitalized (few days later one of them died due to heart attack while the other became mentally unstable).
> That box contained a mummy of two conjoined twins.
> 2chan guy called the priest again. The priest came with his son and took the box. 2chan guy asked the priest’s son about the mummy.
> Priest’s son confirmed the mummy was indeed a pair of conjoined twins. The twins were purchased by Mononobe who was a leader of a religious sect & then the twins got locked inside a secret chamber with other prisoners who also had deformities. They all cannibalized each other there.
> Mononobe was interested in the twins & wanted the twins to become the sole survivor, so he stabbed other prisoners before he threw the twins there.
> The twins survived & Mononobe turned them into a mummy while they were still alive (by starving them). Then he named them Ryomen (Two Faces) Sukuna.
And here’s the interesting part, quoting bushwarblerssong;
To increase the mummy’s power, Mononobe filled Ryomen Sukuna’s stomach with a fine powder made from the crushed bones of ancient “traitorous clans” (like the Emishi or Tsuchigumo) eradicated by the Imperial Court.
Doesn’t the Zen’in kinda fit this label? Since they are in the process of getting removed from the three great families.
ch 152
Maki and Megumi are also deemed as traitors by the Zen’in clan, and perhaps by the Jujutsu Society/higher ups as well. Because they’re currently trying to free Gojo. Plus Megumi is on Yuji’s side and the higher ups clearly see Yuji as evil/dangerous and they want Yuji (Sukuna) dead.
ch 148
Anyway, Sukuna has a mouth on his stomach so it matches the urban legend. I’m guessing Mononobe cut open the stomach of the Urband Legend Sukuna so he could stuff it with the bone powder, thus creating the second mouth.
cover for ch 117
A huge mouth also exists in Sukuna’s domain expansion.
ch 8
ch 119
His domain expansion is called Fukumamizushi (伏魔御廚子) in Japanese. Fukuma (伏魔) means a place where demons hide while Mizushi (御廚子) means the place inside the palace where the emperor eats or the kitchen.
The name of Sukuna’s DE can be taken as “Sukuna’s kitchen” or “Emperor Sukuna’s dining place.”
“The kitchen of all deaths is here!!”
His innate domain also looks like the inside of a stomach.
So far Sukuna’s innate techniques are all related to cooking (Knives; dismantle and cleaves/filleting*, and Fire; flames |*the kanji hachi 捌 also means filleting fish) and we’ve seen him talking about his enemies in cooking term. He even 'employs' Uraume because of Uraume’s cooking skill.
Q: How long has Uraume known Sukuna?
A: Uraume has known Sukuna for 1000 years. Uraume is a human who’s allowed to stand next to Sukuna because Uraume could make delicious food. Uraume is also a sorcerer.
Q: Is Uraume a chef?
A: Sukuna likes to eat people, but it’s difficult to cook them, or rather only few people have the experience, but Uraume is excellent at this.
This character introduction implies that the reason why Sukuna allows Uraume to become his (only) follower is because of Uraume’s cooking skill. Weren't Uraume a good cook, Sukuna most likely wouldn't keep Uraume around.
Also, let’s not forget that it’s also mentioned in the official fanbook that Sukuna finds the most pleasure in eating.
三枚おろし is a culinary term for filleting a fish (into three slices).
味見 means tasting. The fight is a literal taste test for him.
“A delicious death begins with a careful preparation.”
The motif of eating and cooking is heavily emphasized on Sukuna. Even the way he gains control of Yuji’s body began with eating (Yuji ate Sukuna’s finger). Moreover Yuji is also a good cook, he taught Megumi to make meatballs.
(FYI in Gifu prefecture, there’s a giant dish called "Sukuna nabe" or Sukuna stew. Apparently this dish can serve approximately 2500 people. Gifu prefecture was the Hida province back then. It’s said that people of Hida liked Sukuna & considered him as a hero because he defeated a poisonous dragon and a demon called Shichina)
These are the reasons why I believe Sukuna will eat someone later, or at least try to. I’m willing to bet a huge amount of money on this. That mouth on his stomach isn’t there just for decorating, it’s for eating.
And since his interest is solely on Megumi, it’s logical to assume Megumi will become his prey in the future.
I mean, who else fits this position beside Megumi? The other person Sukuna acknowledges is Gojo (so far only Gojo and Megumi are referred to with their full names by Sukuna) but that acknowledgement doesn’t seem to go beyond killing—revenge against Gojo for humiliating him in ch 2/ep 3.
IMO if Sukuna does end up eating humans again later, the very first person he eats would be someone whom he considers special, like a fine grade-A ingredient. Basically the human version of wagyu beef or bluefin tuna.
He wouldn't eat just anybody, at least not at first, because it's stated in the fanbook that "it's difficult to cook them (humans)." So I don't think he would reserve such meticulous preparation for random nobodies. Besides it'd be his first meal after a thousand years of being sealed, so it's gotta be special.
And for what reason? Why would he want to eat Megumi? And why not now? Why wait?
Like many others I believe he wants to absorb Megumi’s power or ability once Megumi reaches his full potential, similar to what Getwo/Kenjaku did with Mahito to cast Maximum Uzumaki in order to create his ideal world, and also similar to the Urband Legend Sukuna ("to increase power").
u/Astral_M explained this in their post about the body is equal to the soul, thus consuming the body is equal to consuming the soul. Quoting them;
Because Sukuna's fingers (part of his body == soul) were preserved, his core of cursed energy is preserved. And Yuji is evidence of a very important concept: Consuming someone's body counts as consuming their cursed core, inheriting their technique!
source: WAYA - Anime Explanation (min 5:01)
I’ve seen multiple versions of translation/interpretations of this, the most common one is “Sukuna wants to create his ideal world with Megumi” I’m not trying to be nitpicking here but this version contains a different meaning from the one I screenshot, because it implies Sukuna wants Megumi to work together with him...... and I doubt that's exactly what Sukuna has in mind. I'm assuming the one I screenshot is the correct (more accurate) version because WAYA is a native Japanese speaker.
Also I think it's worth to note that it's not Gege who said this, it’s the interviewer. Gege’s answer/respond to it was fully censored, so we don’t know whether he actually agreed with this notion or not.
The interviewer then said this (in response to Gege's bleeped out answer);
Another translation;
source: _zanzou_
I don’t think Megumi is going to die (or get eaten) early. It’d happen in or near the final arc.
Megumi either dies in Sukuna/Yuji’s hands (depends if they manage to separate, I'm betting Sukuna's going to merge with Yuji though, because it fits the theme; conjoined twins + two faces), or he lives, because clearly Sukuna wouldn’t allow others to kill him.
Thanks for reading!
TL;DR Sukuna will definitely (try to) eat someone later and that someone is most likely going to be Megumi.
