To celebrate the year, I decided to give the sacrificial offering of my senior thesis PDF of 55 pages of game progress / art / characters !!

Progress has been slow for me the past three months since I've recently taken up a new job that I'm starting to finally settle myself into, so hoping that means more days of productivity!!

I don't know the date of when I'll be able to release the full game, but I want to say thank you to everyone who have been so patient and kind! I'll be doing my best!!

USS Monterey (CG-61)

The USS Monterey (CG-61) is a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser in the United States Navy. It has a displacement of approximately 9,600 tons, measures 567 feet (173 meters) in length, 55 feet (16.8 meters) in beam, and has a draft of 34 feet (10.2 meters). Powered by four General Electric LM2500 gas turbine engines, it achieves speeds over 30 knots and has an unlimited range due to its capability for underway replenishment. The crew consists of 33 officers and 327 enlisted personnel. Armament includes two Mk 41 Vertical Launch Systems, two Mk 45 5-inch guns, two Mk 38 25 mm guns, eight Harpoon missile launchers, two Phalanx CIWS, and various machine guns. The ship also supports two SH-60 Seahawk helicopters. Built by Bath Iron Works, it was commissioned on June 16, 1990. The USS Monterey has been involved in numerous deployments and operations, showcasing its versatility and importance in modern naval operations.

Case 55: The Hidden Evil

After the incident with a clone trooper named Fives, you discover some important details and ask Fox to join you in uncovering the secret behind the inhibitor chips.

(Author note: In the headcanon, I wrote reader saving Fives from his fate, so this is a little AU because I wanted angst)

Warnings: mentions of drugs, conspiracy theories, chasing, death of a character, some angst, Fox having a hard time, reader investigating, and Palpatine being suspicious.

The whole thing was a mess.

When the clone trooper, Fives, crashed at your place to plead for your help in revealing a dark truth he had discovered about Palpatine and these things called inhibitor chips. His story roused your interest and suspicion, so you agreed even though his behavior was strange and erratic like a crazed theorist. When you noticed symptoms that were usual for people under the influence of drugs, you took a blood sample from him even though it took some convincing. However, before you could have him checked out, Fox and most of the GAR army came to your doors. Their appearances freaked him out and he ran away before you could do anything. That’s when you knew it was serious. 

Your dear Fox had a feeling Fives came to you thus most of the CG came, worried the rogue clone might have done something to you. You questioned about the situation and he was kind enough to fill you in on the case. Apparently, Fives has removed his behavior chip which caused him to go mad and attempt to kill the supreme chancellor. This roused your suspicions further since Fives told you a different story and his behavior did not match the description. 

It was not unusual for people to come to you when they needed someone to prove their innocence. You cared about the truth and you smelled something foul going on with these chips and the supreme chancellor. 

You joined the chase to investigate, convincing Fox and the others to capture Fives alive since you needed him to tell the whole story. Fox told you they were under direct orders to eliminate him which made you even more curious. It took you opening a case for suspected setting up of your client which convinced them to capture Fives alive because due to the rules of your contract, the clones are to assist and not intervene with your investigation unless necessary. Fox found this annoying but agreed since it was serious. 

Unfortunately, the chase would come to a quick end when you located Fives in one of the underground warehouses. He had trapped Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex, trying to share his story. It did not look good and the sight of you and the rest of the CG freaked him out that he aimed a blaster at you. You tried to calm him down but unfortunately, Fox reacted first, shooting the clone down with a lethal bullet. Fives died in his captain's arms, making it a sad sight and you were unable to hear the rest of the story. However, you did manage to catch his words about nightmares before his last breath which bugged you the wrong way. 

It was a messy night. The clone trooper’s body was taken into custody by the orders of Palpatine who later revealed to you and the Jedi masters that the cause of the whole thing was a type of parasite that infected the clones and caused their descent to madness. You found it suspicious as the Republic had been sharp about the physical well-being of its clones since that one incident that involved mind-controlling parasites from Geonosis. How did this parasite manage to get by unnoticed? 

It was also the first time you heard about the incident involving another clone trooper killing a Jedi because of the malfunctioning chip. 

Things took a stranger turn when Palpatine questioned you about Fives and the things the clone trooper told you. You decided to play it safe and said to him that Fives was unclear in his story and that you suspected he was under the influence of some drugs. Palpatine seemed satisfied with your answer, even providing you with an answer that the effects of a parasite could seem like the person was drugged. You found him strange as he seemed relieved you didn’t know something. You closed the case before his eyes and pretended you were satisfied with the parasite story. 

Of course, you were not satisfied with the story. There were too many inconsistencies and the whole thing just reeked with foulness, something was going on, something Palpatine did not want you especially to find out. 

You first met up with a friend, who worked as a doctor in the underground levels and had them check out the blood sample you had from Fives for drugs. The result came back positive and your friend informed you it was a type of drug that would cause the patient to become highly paranoid and erratic. The symptoms fit the bill and it was enough to have your full attention on the case. 

Fives did not act that way because of some parasite. To know more about the incident with the other clone and the dead Jedi, you decided to ask about it from Rex and Anakin as they were there when it happened. Rex was still mourning the loss of his closest brothers but explained in detail how ‘Tup’ suddenly lost it and killed a Jedi knight during a firefight. His behavior was strange thus he was sent to Kamino with Fives, where he later died and the whole thing with the inhibitor chips began. 

This raised more questions but it confirmed one of your suspicions. The clone Tup targeted Jedis specifically after his chip malfunctioned. You shared little on that and how you found it strange Tup did not attack anyone else. You reasoned it could have been pent-up aggression over some grudge, but Rex assured Tup was not someone who held grudges, confirming your other suspicions. If Fives was also infected with this parasite why didn’t his chip malfunction? Why did the parasite only affect him when the chip was out? 

You already knew the answer to those questions, but you bid the two farewell and inspected all the info you found. 

Fives had the right idea, and Palpatine was trying to hide it. It required a special secret investigation, and for you to dig deeper, you needed Fox’s help. 

Fox might have not shown it, but he was affected by the incident. He wanted to make himself believe that he was following orders and that it was necessary, but he had always been an open book to you. You had worked with him for years after all. He was a stickler for rules, but shooting another clone was something that would never come to him naturally. You actually feel worried about how he would react when you show him the evidence you have found. However, to uncover the truth, you needed his help. 

You invited him to talk to you at your apartment, convincing him that it was important. When he finally arrived, you pulled him in and revealed the results of your investigation.

“Palpatine lied about the cause. That clone trooper did not go mad because of some parasite or because he was without his chip,” You started. 

“What do you mean?” Fox asked after taking off his helmet. 

“Take a look at this,” You handed him the datapad that showed the Five’s blood sample and positive result of drugs. “That is the drug result of a blood sample I took from that clone because I suspected he was under the influence. Turns out I was right. He was under the influence of a mind-clouding drug that caused him to become extremely paranoid and seem crazy. And the fun part is that drug is highly illegal, thus not even the most effective drug dealers would be able to find it, ” You explained. 

“That is why he acted like a crazed man,” You stated as Fox read the results twice. 

Fox looked at you with a frown. “But if that’s the case then where did he consume such a drug?” He asked. 

“He didn’t. It was given to him without his will.” You replied. “You told me he was still apprehended and seemed normal when he arrived on Coruscant, right?” You asked. 

“Correct,” Fox nodded. 

“Then how come he suddenly freaks out when left alone with the supreme chancellor and starts acting like a crazed conspiracy theorist?” You questioned. “That means the drug was given to him when they arrived on Coruscant, and my guess is that it was a medical officer who did it, which then amplified his reaction after being left alone with Palpatine.” 

“He then freaks out, attacking the supreme chancellor, and runs away, claiming Palpatine is involved with a dark conspiracy against the Jedi. He couldn’t have freaked out and come up with this on his own, thus there was something Palpatine told him that caused the drug to take effect.” You said, walking forth and back.

“You are then ordered to eliminate him because he was dangerous, and now that he’s dead, Palpatine explains that it was some kind of parasite that caused his and the other clone’s chip’s malfunctions. I find it strange because Fives showed me the chips and his was completely intact.” You explained. 

“And now, his blood shows positive results of a drug that is highly illegal on Coruscant. There are also other inconsistencies regarding the other clone who killed a Jedi after the malfunction but all leads to one conclusion…” You turned toward him.

“Fives was onto something and Palpatine set him up to keep him silenced.” You stated. 

Fox was quiet, but you could sense his discord. He was sometimes rash but he never denied the evidence. 

“But… why would he do such a thing?” 

“Because there’s something foul going on with these chips, and the supreme chancellor is trying to hide it.” You replied. 

“Then… does that mean that I… killed him to protect something dark?” He asked as shock settled in. 

“You were ordered to eliminate him. I convinced you out of it. You shot him out of reaction but he did seem like he was going to shoot me. However, there is something dark going on,” You said, placing your hand on his shoulder.

“Fox… I need your help in this. I can dig deeper to uncover the whole truth, but I need your aid because I think Palpatine will try to stop me if he knew about this,” You explained. “I suspect something sinister will happen if we leave this be, something in the future that will be the end of both the Jedi and the clones,”

“We have worked many cases together and unsolved many mysteries. So, I ask you to place your trust in me for a big time. Fives tried to reveal something big and he was silenced for it. We can make up for his death by uncovering the truth,” You said. 

“If I hide this… it might end up badly for both of us,” Fox said. “It might be worse if we don't do this,” you replied.  

Fox was silent but you knew what he had decided. 

“Where should we start?” He asked, making you grin. 

“How about we see if these chips are what they’re supposed to be?”

Today's character is Juney! Juney wanted to be an actor but she decided to become an idol hesitantly. She is curious and cautious about the world around her. She seems to lack confidence, and has a very famous sister who is also an actor.

FUN FACT: Unlike the other 2 KR mobamas idols, Juney's name (주니) does not follow the Korean traditional 3 character naming system. Her hometown is also Seattle, compared to the other two whose hometowns are in South Korea.

one out of three of the korean server exclusive mobamas idols! i know it says to roll again because i added them at the end but i can probably only do one drawing today so tomorrow will be a double day instead. i don't exactly have all the information on these characters but i want to learn more about them; i think its sad how they went down with the kr server and i would love to see them in modern cgss (though adding new cg charas to the voice election possibility list has proven itself to be a bad idea in the past lol). maybe there is a lot more content of these 3 out there than i see on the surface, but i think juney looks like an interesting character who i would want to see more of

[And Monster Girl Summer is officially a Go! Part of my goal with Monster Girl Summer is to reflect on the games I’ve run in the past. And to sort of mentally catalog how many of the PCs started out monstrous, or became monstrous over the course of play. Like Dalya here. Dalya was originally a human, but ended up reincarnated as a gnoll. And was in the half of the party that survived their fight with Karzoug, as opposed to being wiped out in round 1. Time stop + reverse gravity + prismatic sphere, don’tcha know.

I ran Rise of the Runelords in 3.5. Dalya was originally built using the battle dancer class from Dragon Compendium. So making her a brawler was a easy choice for the conversion.]

Dalya CR 18 CG Humanoid (gnoll) This tall, lean hyena headed woman has her hair done up in a dyed fringe, and tattoos are visible beneath her fur. She wears leather armor and carries a buckler and spear.

Born to an exiled Shoanti father and a Varisian merchant mother, Dalya was used to living on the road. But she didn’t expect it to turn out the way it did. Visiting the Swallowtail Festival in Sandpoint, she was caught up in a goblin raid, which rapidly turned into investigating the growing power of the Sihedron cult and, eventually, opposing the forces of Karzoug. Underneath Thistletop, Dalya was slain by the barghest Malfeshnekor, but her allies were able to fight the beast back long enough to recover her body. Possibly as a side effect of being slain by one of Lamashtu’s chosen, Dalya was returned to life as a gnoll when brought back through a reincarnate spell. And Dalya couldn’t have been happier with her new body.

Dalya’s adventures continued from there, and she proudly brags that she’s never lost a fist fight with a giant. She was instrumental to killing Karzoug and preventing Varisia from being overrun by an army of lamiae and other monsters. But Dalya is not one to rest on her laurels, and she is in no way retired. Her current mission is to help a few packs of non-evil gnolls to settle in the Storval Plateau without causing too much conflict with the Shoanti quahs living there already. Her allies in this mission include a quartet of advanced crocuttals and Krojun Eats-What-He-Kills, a powerful warrior of the Sun Clan, himself reincarnated into a monstrous form (a bugbear) following a fatality in combat.

Hi I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on a little!Logan? He’s just had such a hard time of it and could use some comfort! Idk who would look after him though, maybe Alex? Or even Daniel, he know what it’s like to go through a tough season and could maybe lend Logan some comfort?

i have a hard time with Logan because i don’t know all that much about him to be honest. and it’s nothing against the guy, but i guess some drivers peek my interests more than others. (and also don’t want to jinx his future but it might also selfishly be self preservation bc i cannot possibly put myself on to another out of seat driver that i start to love because the ‘22 season really took it out of me with 3,5 and 47 and now 55 this year like i just can’t)

and also because I don’t see Alex in a full time cg role if you will, he gives off more big brother vibes to me personally. so i also don’t really know who to stick Logan too, as putting him with Daniel also seems a bit much considering the guy is caring for half the grid at this point.

Pixar gets all the credit for supposedly making the first feature-length CGI movie with Toy Story, but it’s untrue, it wasn’t even the first feature-length CGI movie released in 1995!

Toy Story was released in November of 1995, but several months earlier, a tie-in movie for the Japanese point-and-click adventure series GADGET called GADGET Trips: Mindscapes was released separately on Laserdisc in the spring (with one old source I found specifying it coming out in May).

An important thing to note is that sources regarding this movie will often claim that it came out in 1998, but that was for the DVD which came out after the Laserdisc version, and the former is simply easier to find.

It certainly doesn’t have a traditional narrative, and it’s basically one long music video with a plot you absolutely won’t even kinda sorta understand unless you read the art book Inside Out with Gadget or read the helpful summary that’s inside the Laserdisc cover itself, but it’s as much of a film as something like Koyaanisqatsi is.

However, if you want to go by the parameter of “first CGI movie to be in active development and then released”, then you could say that the 1996 Brazilian animated movie Cassiopéia should get the credit because it got started in 1992, but production problems such as some of the rendering computers getting stolen prevented it’s release until after Toy Story. Many Portuguese-speaking animation fans are already aware of this.

HOWEVER… If you want to go by the literal definition of a “cgi film”, then the 55-minute long pixel-art-styled The Flying Luna Clipper from 1987 released on VHS and Betamax technically counts. When we hear the letters “cgi”, we normally associate it with being 3D, but this movie was made mostly with an MSX computer, and is pixel art not computer generated imagery? Unless you think it isn’t because it’s much more hands-on. Sure, a lot of the movement here is basically a slideshow combined with a digital form of cut-out animation, but I think there’s enough motion to qualify it as being a movie, you know? (Thanks to @easternmind for pointing me in the direction of this)

Even if you personally disqualify The Flying Luna Clipper for being 2D, disqualify Cassiopéia for releasing in 1996, and even if you disqualify Gadget Trips: Mindscapes for its unconventional nature, you can’t solely credit Pixar for breaking new ground when it comes to CGI when you take all the shorts over the years into account, and I think these artists the world over should get more credit for their achievements, and maybe there’s even more examples of movie-length CG movies before Toy Story that I don’t even know about!

Can i ask how do you usually color and add overlays? I've tried many ways but mine still looks awful..

Absolutely anon!!!! Nd cg for being the first to ask me this heeheewwheh...

Please note that these settings can change depends on the image you're using, each images have different lightnings ykyyykk + i'm using my language here uhhhhh if you don't understand then js use gg or just try to spot the settings haahwahahejej 😁😁

For the first steps, just create a project then add ur pngs, images, etc to it. It's likee. The sketching step in art.

1. After you're done the thingys above then add greyscales to them (image, pngs, etc). Remember to adjust the settings instead of js letting it stay the same btw or it will be very hard to spot the details and it will look very rushy (from my view, if you wanted it to look like that then it's okay). The settings i usually use is:

Brightness: 15%-35% because i currently prefer bright edits. You can change to ur likings.

For the bottom setting, js let it chill in 0%. Incase if the png or image color is black then brightness: 100%, contrast: -55% to -15% (it depends!!!!!)

2. Add brightness & contrast (5%-15%)

3. Add outlines.

The first outline layer can be white or black, it depends on you.

The second and last outline layer can be the glowing thingy, depends again.

4. Add gradient map (the one i mostly uses). If you don't hav one then recolor them of ur choice. Uh if i remember correctly (since it's 2 months ago and i'm bad at remembering) i always or mostly uses hue or color

If you use gradient map that has over 2 colors then again, remember to adjust the settings for each things, or it will be very hard to look at the details.

For the 2 colors, i recommend to add a white color at the end of the gradient bar.

5. Add tons of overlays.

For this, i recommend you to use the "add a layer from project" section (below duplicate) after you've done the steps above & sure that you won't be adding more anything, it will save you a lot of times.

Remember to use "clipping" in every overlay layers and merge them ONE BY ONE to ur edit.

Incase if you use overlays that has colors then i recommend to recolor them to the color that you're editing (ughhahgwhehgwgwg how do i explain this). Example below

6. (OPTIONAL) Add sum polka dots.

6.1 : You can download the polka dots overlays, then change the blending modes to soft light. You can try hard light then change the opacity, too.

7. Add ur watermark

Incase if you're scared that ur watermark will be erased then try adding a QR code.

Filter -> art -> scroll until you saw the QR code and then KABOOM!!! You've got a watermark that will be very hard to be erased! 😁

Malcolm

Has been imprisoned twice, and nearly hanged once. Not something he's really proud of, but not something he shies away from either.

Knows how to use a sword! It should come as no surprise to anyone that he was training from young to enter squirehood and eventually knighthood. He swapped paths when he was sixteen and needed something to keep him out of trouble, so blacksmithing kept him busy. Turns out he was good at it and stuck with it as it's meditative for him in nature.

Everything Malcolm forges has his signature on it: a small M engraved somewhere on the steel or handle. That's how you know it's an authentic Ashford blade and of good quality.

Knows how to count cards and has, on occasion, used loaded dice. You could take them to a gambling den and win, but you'd have to know when to haul 'em out. Not because they have issues with gambling, but because they have far too large an ego and would blow it pretty quick.

Of all the ROs, JJ is the least likely to give you a nickname as a term of endearment and instead, always use your full preferred name. However you introduce yourself to them is how they'll refer to you (i.e. if you say your name is Daniel, they'll never refer to you as Dan or Danny unless you say so, even if others around you are doing it). They're very proper in this way. Likewise, they absolutely hate being called Jamie/Janey. It's either James/Jane or JJ.

like their younger brother, D also has magic, and actually made it through SCEPTRE training with top marks, but didn't qualify for the group. So instead, they were made head of the sorcerer division of the kingsguard.

If Fortuna were set in a modern verse, they would have the most "dad rock" taste in music of all time. Like, Journey, Aerosmith, Queen etc. They'd have a record player and their favourite records and get tons of mileage from it.
