Ok yes, you're totally right and that is so funny, but there's something beautifully poetic in how Joel's avoided lore like the plague through all of his series, but the only times I can think of off the top of me head that he's actively leaned into is:

Empires 2 and X-life. (I think, it's been a while since I rewatched)

Both of which are heavily religion based. Empires 2 he was a god, and X-life he was uh....... I'm not sure how to describe Jeremyism but it sure was a thing!

Of course, every other time he's been in a lore server he's just halfassed it: "I'm a wizard ig" "I want to stab people, how can I do that?" "Lizzie’s a villain? Sure I'll be one too" "The demon is not real. I'm gonna marry my wife. *screaming in the background*"

All this to say, when he finally becomes part of the WIDELY ACCEPTED, RELIGION THEMED lore, choosing a fucking car as his celestial object is perfectly on brand for him.

For some completely unknown reason, c!Joel decided that 'no, he actually doesn't want to be part of this', despite it seeming like it would be right up his ally, based off his track record with lore. It's chaotic and stupid and random. And isn't that perfect, given that we're talking about *Joel*?

I don't really interact with the fandom much, but something about Joel's win after five seasons of lore-building surrounding the winners is so freaking hilarious to me. Like, you've assigned every winner so far an association with a celestial object and drenched them in poetry and beautiful artwork, but Joel is pretty much allergic to stuff like that. So the vibe I get from this whole situation is something like this:

"Welcome, visitor, to the temple. Please follow me as I give you the grand tour of our pantheon. Please do not touch the statues."

"Thank you, elder."

"First is Grian, acolyte of the Watchers, first to ascend to the pantheon. 'Twas he who created the sacred games and he who claimed the first victory. His sigil is the sun."

"Fascinating."

"Second is Scott, the upright, who earned his place in this sacred circle through loyalty and honour. His sigil is the stars."

"Oh wow."

"Here is Pearl, the spurned lover, whose seat here was secured through her thirst for blood and vengeance. Her sigil is the moon."

"That's a lot of dogs."

"They were her sacred animal. Moving on... This is Martyn, the trickster. He took his place through subtlety, betraying those who were closest to him. His sigil is Mars, the red planet."

"Metal."

"Here is Scar, the lonely warrior. All underestimated him, but he rose to victory in spite of the scorn of his opponents. His sigil is the earth."

"Inspiring."

"This statue belongs to Cleo the Undead. Though her season's inclusion in the canon is debatable, few would challenge her inclusion in the pantheon. Her sigil is... debated."

"Okay, cool."

"And finally, this is Joel. He has a car"

i feel like joel is very interesting as a winner. obviously, he has the skills to win it, no doubt, and he was heavily predicted to win because of his and gem's alliance this season, but he's one of the ones that feels unexpected, because, arguably, he's one of the ones more detached from the direct, established fan-lore.

if it had been gem who won, it'd be easy to slot her in with the rest---her plot is often very tied to pearl, another previous winner and lore-heavy character, plus, she's even created her own lore too already (lost her eye to the end portal in secret life)

if cleo had won, then it was merely her right---she won real life, of course she would win the next real season. she was martyn's soulmate too, and the soulmate pairs always win.

if impulse had won, then it makes sense. he's been "second place" for so long, he's been desperate for a win since the beginning, and this time, he had pearl on his side, guiding and protecting him towards it.

if grian had won again, well, of course the Watcher would be the first two-time winner, right?

if it had been anyone else, they would feel easy to integrate into the lore, to give them a place and a purpose. but joel?

hm. much to think about.

Scar as pluto, Cleo as venus. Nobody can change my mind, but I *hope* I change yours /lh

Scar, the loneliest planet, some dont even consider it a planet, all alone, no friends. The furthest from the sun, cause idc what people say, his win had NOTHING to do with Grian, he won while being distanced from him. It's got 5 moons. In SL Scar killed 6 people, the last one being Pearl, but Pearl isnt just a moon to him, she's the person who lend him a hand and offered him a family, allies, even at the end, she wanted her mounders to win, and even if for just a day, Scar was a mounder aswell, Pearl who experienced that loneliness aswell in her own winning season, she's not just a moon more to him. Scar is Pluto.

Cleo, planet of love, loving and caring towards her allies, somewhat motherly. Orange planet. Can be seen somewhat easily in the sky along with mars, the moon and stars, close to them. Goddess of love in Roman Mythology (known as Aphrodite to the greeks), Aphrodite/Venus: lover of Ares/Mars, Cleo/Venus: soulbound to Martyn/Mars. She's also called quite a few of her teammates their husband in the past (Bdubs in 3rd life, Etho in limited life). Cleo is Venus.

I'm here to defend these ideals which ive added to my daily dose of life series enjoyment, however the arguements arent originally mine.

listen I’ll have a horse in the “do we continue the winners titles” thing when cleo wins until then I’ll let people who are bigger scar guys than me debate this one. however my brain did just go “Venus planet of love was destroyed by global warming” because I was obsessed with that song for a long while so. make of that whatever?

The Falling Star

(congrats on the win, Scar!)

Scar is, to me, reminiscent of a falling star. Once among his fellow stars in the night sky, he is now all alone, pulled down by a gravity he cannot resist and taken on a destructive course, against his will. And then, right before impact, maybe he’ll no longer be alone. For those fleeting seconds, the falling star will once again have company, right before he crashes into it and leaves only death and old memories in his wake.

Wild life was something!

I’m going to do my own take on the celestial poem. I don’t fully expect anyone to take it seriously but feel free to read over if you want!

Spoilers ahead!

Ok so first off congrats to Joel for winning! I know it probably been spoiled to death by this point but I’m going to be courteous to the people on my blog who don’t already know.

Secondly my take on the celestial is that the later winner are no longer celestial bodies. They represent something else entirely.

The first five:

The Sun (grian), The Stars (Scott), The Moon (Pearl), and Mars (Martyn). Then their is our home the Earth (Scar)

After that we have the explorer (Cleo) and their vessel (Joel).

Now Joel’s is easy to explain, everyone is equating him to his Car since it was such a big part of his series and it feels disingenuous to separate them, hence the vessel, which could be a car or a spaceship, which is exactly how Tango described Joel’s car the first time he saw it.

As for Cleo this one is a bit more nuisances. It feels like most people just write her off or equate her celestial body to something small like Pluto. However, I think we can definitely do something more profound with her.

Due to how off the Real Life series was, what with it’s VR aspects, short run time, and big players like grian being out quickly (first in this case. It almost feels like Real Life is an outlier. Almost like it was the first attempt that Grian did to try and separate the life series from the watchers. First by removing all traces of their powers in real life, and then exerting his own control over the narrative in Wild Life.

For this he was punished, in real life he was killed off first, and in Wild Life he not only had his window curse reaffirmed but they kept the canary around just because they knew it would bug him (P.S this is a joke, Jimmy did real well and I am proud of him. He might have possibly won if he didn’t have grian plotting to kill him)

So for all of the watcher series their an air of finality and their winners get celestial body names. Third life: Sun, Last Life: Stars, Double Life: Moon, Limited Life: Moon.

The only one that feels like it doesn’t fit this trend is secret life, but I think it still counts because it was clearly the series that the watchers partook in a more active role. And the odd series name mixed with the celestial body contagions shows that it a turning point for the series. The watchers and Grian are battling for who has control over this series. As the watchers make the tasks but it Grian’s job to check them and implement them. This is when he realizes he can make the rules now and he no longer at the mere whim of the game.

Thus his games have strange titles Real life, and Wild life. And his winners had names befitting of those from the outside coming in and taking over the watchers galaxy. Joel is the spaceship (Car) and Cleo is the Astronaut (or wander or explorer, whichever you prefer)

They are an astronaut because they are sometimes that is gone in the blink of an eye, just like a human is to the universe, they feel and act out everything they do, and in the end while their life was short they made a major impact on the universe they were in, even if no one knows it yet.

That my take on it at least, if you guys prefer celestial bodies then Cleo can be a comet, here for a short time but going out in a blaze of glory, and Joel can be Pluto, because Pluto is a very memorable planet and I doubt any of us will forget Wild Life any time soon. It has a chaotic orbit, which fits the theme, and it small which both thematically matches his mane and he one of the few people who the crew makes short jokes about.
