Alisaie

When she first shows up she's wearing matching outfits and wielding matching grimoires with her twin brother, but when she properly joins the game's main cast it becomes clear that she has swordswoman energy so incredibly strong that as a magical prodigy her chosen fighting style is "manifest sword out of aether and then hit people with it." She later simplifies this to merely wielding a sicknasty crystal rapier; As we know, fury and compassionate outrage are more powerful under when concentrated, which makes this tiny elf sword nerd a volatile pressurecooker of heroism. She's here to care about the little guy, make frustrated noises, and charge off to solve and/or cause problems, and truly what else is swordswoman energy about?

She wanted to use a sword so bad she summoned one made of pure magic, before a friend gave her an actual sword because he was worried about the toll summoning a sword made of pure magic was having on her, I love her and her brother so much. One of them is trans (they did the identical but different-gender twins thing). At one point Alisaie mopes because her and her brother didn't get new outfits when everyone else did. She then jumps off of a balcony because she saw an opportunity for adventure. Canonically doesn't like pickles on burgers (she put them on someone else's plate!! the scandal!!)

Lucia

she fights with a sword and shield— very classic paladin flavor. she’s achieved and maintained high ranking status for her combat prowess!; nobody is immune to hot lady knight especially when she is over six feet tall and in full plate armor tbh . easily the hottest defector from the evil empire in xiv. also she can pilot a big robot so that’s automatically a point in her favor imo

Mylla

She's the leader of the gladiator's guild. Gladiators are the class that use swords and shields. She kind of gets sidelined once it upgrades to the Paladin job for a bit, but then they went 'no Mylla and her guild are cooler than these idiots' and did a tournament arc

Lightning

She uses a Gunblade. A sword thats also a gun. Said to be very rare because it takes so much skill to use. Does lots of slashing and backflips. Later becomes Champion of A God and sword fights a guy for eternity. Later becomes champion of a Different god and uses lots of different swords; She is dramatic and has lots of character growth and is awesome.

Agrias

She has the class Holy Knight which enables her to use Holy Sword techniques as long as she has a sword equipped, which pretty much makes her the most powerful swordfighter your party can recruit (with the exception of Cidolfus Orlandeau, who has her skillset plus extra); You meet Agrias at the start of the game, and it's a few chapters before she joins your party permanently during which she gets quite a bit of screentime. This is significant, since Tactics lets you dismiss any character that's not the protagonist, and consequently the story is written to not assume you have any particular character in your party except for guests, meaning Agrias gets more story time than most characters that join your party.

Paine

starts out as a swordfighter with a big sword with a skull design. #girlboss; ffx-2 is a Wild Ride already but that they gave us a goth lesbian with a sword as our third party member was a great choice. i love her and also ffx-2. it's underappreciated.

Terra

Swords are one kind of weapon she can wield. Her ultimate weapon is known as Apocalypse.

Celes

She was turned into a Magitek knight by the Gestahlian Empire which she betrays. Swords are one kind of weapon she can wield. Her ultimate weapon is a sword known as Save the Queen.

i have this theory that locke plays celes so hard hes a scam artist n guess what so is she lmaoooo n he knows that n he watches her lie n play parts... he really loves terra n knos she cant reciprocate n knos shes meant for greater things.... celes is a tool she can be used to get into the empire so him stringing her along makes sense n she even goes along with it (he believes this is real while acknowledging she is an actor/liar which is his mistake lmao) n she has lots to gain by playing him and the returners for the empire (obviously as time goes on she realizes how awful that is but).... UNTIL that one scene in albrook where they basically realize theyve been playing each other n they r the only ones that know whats up n i think in that moment truly, they deserve each other. n thats why i regretfully do ship it 😑

honestly. nice question!!! bc i dont really know which ship really counts as popular or unpopular, and i was about to say that the "more famous" ships i either ship myself or i find them cute enough to appreciate ( shoutout to sabin x terra or celes x terra i dont go there i like em more platonically but ive seen very cute art!!! ) but i. really cant get behind terra and shadow orz like i understand the appeal i can see it. but theyre not for me. i live for shadow being a guardian figure for terra tho

and uhhhh not really an unpopular ship but more of an upopular interpretation of a ship? i really like setzer x edgar but like. more in a situationship kind of way. not romantic not platonic maybe they dont really even like eachother that much but they are lowkey besties and also depression buddies and also get physical every now and then. idk

What’s been part of your WIP since the beginning? What’s the newest idea that you’ve added to it?

I kind of just realized that I reblogged this ask game without any particular WIP in mind whoops—

We're going to talk about But Save By Their Graves a Space For Me (Final Fantasy VI/Pacific Rim crossover), because that's the one I'm currently trying to cajole myself into updating next. And, to that end: all the Magitek/Jaeger parallel stuff was planned from the beginning; that's the vast majority of the reasoning behind why I started that fic in the first place. Which pretty quickly evolved into incorporating the "chasing the RABIT" sequence we've had already—and fans of FFVI and particularly the Doma quest in the World of Ruin might have an idea of where that might all lead.

A much more recent development, though, is the Terra/Celes ship. Which I was never really into before, but the people on my Discord server sure are, and, you know what? They're right.

Share the happiest part of your WIP.

We're… somewhat still getting to the part where these people get to actually be happy for once. But, in the meantime, a moment of levity:

“—and then Cyan says, ‘Troth, no, Sir Gau, thine hunting skills are most valuable to Sir Sabin and myself! What hast thou brought for mine approval?’ And Gau pulls out—get this—a live leaf bunny, curled up sound asleep in the rags of that terrible suit we’d bought him the previous day!”

Celes had chuckled at the Cyan impression already, which is embarrassing enough on its own, but at the thought of wild, rambunctious Gau handling anything with the amount of care required to keep something as skittish as a leaf bunny asleep she actually laughs, which is even worse. She stifles it just as quickly as it had come, but one look at Sabin’s face confirms the damage is already done.

“Ha! I knew you had a sense of humor!” he cheers.

What’s the funniest/strangest way that inspiration has struck you when writing fic?

Probably whenever I randomly get bodyslammed by a memory from 5+ years ago I forgot I had for no discernible reason. A lot of the funniest bits in the BotW college AU, for example, are lifted directly from mine and my co-writer's respective highly strange college experiences. Such as the campus café using extremely unfortunate CAH cards instead of order numbers.
