Hello Cdrama fans! The signups for the Yuletide fic exchange close in a little over forty-eight hours, and there are a ton of Cdrama fandoms nominated. I'd LOVE to see some more Cdrama fans on board (and not just because almost all my nominations are that).

Yuletide is an annual fic exchange for rare and obscure fandoms run through the Archive of Our Own. Participants sign up to write a story of at least 1,000 words in a fandom someone else has requested, using the selected characters from that fandom. In return, they receive a story of at least 1,000 words in a fandom they have requested, featuring requested characters.

Hello, thanks for answering my ask before. Do you mind if I ask something? Is it weird, if I have hard time to watch & finishing any tv series (live action) but find it so easy to watch anime & other animation series?

If you don't mind, can I ask for tv series recs based on a few tv series that I've finished (mostly bromance and BL)?

The Untamed, My Roommate is Detective, Killer and Healer, Semantic Error, We Best Love, She Loves to Cook She Loves to Eat, Merlin BBC, Sherlock BBC, The Mentalist, and Downtown Abbey (the only het romance series that I love).

Sorry because it's kinda random and for my long ask....

Since you mainly like BL, have you watched Word of Honor cdrama (if you liked The Untamed), Unknown (Taiwanese BL that is lovely slice of love with trauma.)

I don't really watch Thai shows but I know they make a LOT of BLs for any taste - only one I ever finished (and I enjoyed it) was KinnPorsche.

Trying to get into asian drama. Recommendations on where to start? I’m about to watch episode 1 of The Untamed.

Oooh honestly, The Untamed is a pretty good place to start. It's pretty accessible and very popular with western audiences, the production quality is good and the story is engaging and doesn't sag too much.

It is a pretty good intro into the common wuxia drama concepts - cultivators and golden cores and resentful energy and the like - the leads are very pretty and there's a good amount of whump and angst. 😁

Some other recommendations:

For a modern cdrama, Love Me If You Dare is excellent! I personally find modern cdramas rather hit and miss - mainly because they tend to very much favour the story/drama over believability/realism so stuff like e.g. medicine/firefighting/whatever can be so absurdly incorrectly portrayed that it ruins any suspension of disbelief. 😂

So Love Me If You Dare is a great into to modern cdrama because it's clever, *very* twisty (story is detective hunting a serial killer), well-written and acted, and probably the closest to like US-style tv that I have seen from a modern cdrama. Plus lots of good whump and angst! 😁

For a good historical drama without the wuxia/cultivation elements, I can highly recommend The Double, which was a HUGE hit this year. The plot is brilliantly twisty turny and keeps you on your toes and it's more of a "realistic" historical drama - so more to do with political/palace intrigue and scheming rather than magical powers/wuxia style drama. It is visually *gorgeous* and the chemistry between the leads is 👌.

Those are all cdramas, and if you want to stray into kdrama, I think you can't go wrong with the very first kdrama I watched: Healer.

It has a lot of the very common elements of most kdramas (lots of interconnectedness/people finding out they are connected in ways they hadn't realised, and corruption amongst high level business people/politicians). It's also a good intro to the kind of humour in kdramas, which can take a bit of getting used to as a new viewer. The action sequences are great, the romance is adorable and engaging, the lead characters are enjoyable and the story is interesting. Plus (ofc) angst and whump and Ji Chang Wook is *very* pretty. 😁

Another good modern kdrama is Bad and Crazy (honestly, pretty much anything with Lee Dong Wook in is gonna be good - I've yet to see a bad/unenjoyable drama from him) with a great twisty turny plot and enjoyable characters. And LOTS of whump!

There's also lots of really good modern kdramas with fantasy elements - I highly recommend Tale of the Nine Tailed (Lee Dong Wook again - modern kdrama where the main character is a gumiho - a nine-tailed fox - and featuring lots of elements of korean gods and the underworld), The Uncanny Counter (bunch of people with superpowers who run a noodle shop by day and hunt down demons/spirits that have escaped from the underworld), and My Demon (romance between a human woman and a demon - very much "enemies" (or at least at cross purposes) to lovers story with great snarky humour and will absolutely hit you in the feels).
