• I’m a big believer in ponyboy continuing to dye his hair blonde after windrixville for sentimentality (also I fuck with the character design aspect)

• so his hairs died blond but it’s also grown out, its the late 1960s and greased hair is becoming even less of a thing than it was before, so his hair is choppily cut above his shoulders and it has the worst grown at roots

• he is the KING of hand me downs, more so than in the outsiders because he fits into more of the clothes that darry and soda actually saved, soda’s flannels, pants, shirts, Darry’s old jackets, he owns his shoes and that it

• okay this one goes more into the au where sodapop is drafted and killed in the Vietnam war because it technically lines up with the twttin timeline. But ponyboy would wear soda’s dog tags literally every day

• more reckless than he was in the outsiders, partially because he’s grown up and partially because of his friends and the people he surrounds himself with

• his friendgroup basically consist of the remainder of the gang, curly and Angela, mark, scout, and two bits sister Brenda I guess

• on the topic of Brenda, ponyboy basically reacreats his and Johnnys relationship with dally with her, they’re so siblings you don’t understand, the brother and sister ever

• very unpopular in school, not in a way of getting bullied but in the way of a lot of kids in his grade being scared of him

“that Curtis kid who helped kill someone”

• the beef Bryon has him is entirely one sided to the point that Ponyboy doesn’t even realize it exists

• despite not having the best reputation he’s finally grown into his looks and if it weren’t for the events of the first book he would be pulling

• Him and Cathy start dating a little bit after twttin, Cathy had been at boarding school during the entirety of the first book so she didn’t have the same stigma against him that the other kids at school

• he actually gets pretty into the Beatles after he starts dating Cathy because they’re her favorite band, he likes the please please me album

• he also adopts M&M into his little gang with Brenda (pushing my M&M and Brenda as best friends agenda)

• in the end all that really means is that he helps M&M with kids picking on him (his reputation from the whole bob incident makes him pretty intimidating), M&M and Brenda also get to tag along on some of Pony and Cathy’s dates to the movies

• honestly I could talk about him and Cathy for hours but as the youngest him dating her and realizing how much she has to do as the oldest makes him gain more of understanding for darry

• also him and Cathy’s song is definitely Do you want to know a secret

Outsiders (and twttin) crying hcs because I’m terrible and evil

Darry

- he only cries when he has time to. Like, if he’s busy he will push those feelings down until he isn’t

- when he does actually cry, it’s very quiet. He’s just laying in bed letting the tears stream down his face

Soda

- low key a crybaby. Like he cries even when he’s happy

- blubbery, needs someone around. Like he won’t cry when he’s alone because that’s not what he needs

Pony

- he’s 14 he’s def a bit of a crybaby too. He’s more embarrassed about it than soda

- he, like Darry, wants to be alone and cry when he has time, but he, like soda, emotionally needs the company even if he doesn’t want it

Johnny

- canonly rarely cries. If he does, it’s a big deal

- he’s like empty inside if he’s at that point, probably hugging his knees and hiding away. He’s trying to be quiet too

Steve

- somewhat similar to soda in that he will cry at any extreme emotion, not just sadness. However, he has to be at a much further point than soda does

- he wants to be alone when he cries because he’s embarrassed, but often conversations with soda will pull some tears out that he’s been holding in. Sometimes their hangouts end with soda holding him while Steve just cries

Dally

- he doesn’t cry. He’s too tough to cry (lies)

- he does cry, just not often and certainly not when someone else can see. Usually it’s just a few tears and it’s over, and it’s not for any particular reason.

Twobit

- big baby. He can also fake cry if he needs to

- he ain’t ashamed of his tears, but he won’t cry in front of someone he dislikes or in front of someone he wants to be tough around (like someone younger or something) he will cry in front of his mom though because they have a very open relationship. He’s a mommas boy

Tim

- doesn’t cry, according to himself and also curly and Angela. (Also a lie)

- he won’t cry in front of anyone because he refuses to be weak. But like, it still happens. Usually he’s in bed thinking and he makes himself cry because of that (so me)

Angela

- she has no qualms about crying in front of people, especially her brothers. She has used Tim’s shirt as a tissue and then scolded him for getting his shirt dirty

- she’s a loud crier if she’s with someone, but by herself it’s those silent choking tears that genuinely hurt

Curly

- hates crying but doesn’t have the self control to not cry in front of people. He usually cries when he’s in pain or very very annoyed (maybe Tim and Angela keep pestering him) he doesn’t really cry when he’s sad

- you know those studio ghibli tears? Where they’re round and they just keep coming? That’s him

Bryon

- honestly it would take a lot to make him cry, not because he’s tough, but because it isn’t really thing he ever does. Like he generally just sleeps his feelings off

- if he did cry it’s probably sniffly and gross, and he’s wiping it off on his sleeve and stuff

Mark

- also doesn’t really cry, but that’s more because he’s never really given a reason to, at least not as a teenager

- when he was a kid though he would cry sometimes, probably cuddle up to Bryon’s mom. (That bitch) he’d still get over it fast though.

Cathy

- she cries a lot but not really in front of people unless she knows they can make her feel better.

- she will cry around M&M but not her parents, she will cry with bryon but never around mark. She lets the tears roll down her face as she explains what’s wrong

M&M

- I can’t imagine him crying, but if he did it would be with Cathy because he trusts her and she won’t ever judge him for it

- he leans against her and talks with her as he sniffles and wipes his tears away

I offer you ideas for a ballet Outsiders AU that I’m calling “Keeping you on your toes”

(also fair warning, this is based on some ballet stuff but I’m aware some stuff is unrealistic, I have done ballet and this is just for fun!)

Essentially the story is focused on Paul and Darry, but the gang will probably still be important! Everyone does ballet at a particular studio, but the socs and greasers have different ones. 

Darry and Paul are in the same academy and do the same productions, but Darry usually gets the lead roles due to his technical abilities and how the crowd just seems to love his skill under the spotlight.

Paul is more focused on perfecting his every move and conveying his feelings through his dance, and only gets gentler roles because of this.

One day Paul gets an offer from Bob, whose family runs the socs’ theater, that he could finally get the lead roles he always wanted if he sabotaged Darry’s performance and joined them.

Or in short: Fluff turns into overwhelming guilt for someone who always feels that they’re in second place.

Greaser Principal Dancers: Paul (becomes Dallas), Darry, Ponyboy, Scout, Ace, and Angela

Greaser Soloists: Johnny, Soda, Dallas (becomes Tim), Sandy, and Evie

Greaser Corps de Ballet: The rest of the greasers/hoods, including Bryon and Mark!

Soc Principal Dancers: Cherry, Bev, Marcia, Bob, Randy, Melvin (becomes Paul)

Soc Soloists: David, Gregg, Melvin, Cathy,  M&M

Here are some character descriptions for the greasers since I don’t feel confident drawing fully fledged designs! (Darry’s and Paul’s will include extra information, but everyone else’s will just include looks/what they wear to practice! I’m still finalizing things!)

Darry: Darry is a principal dancer and is the teacher’s favorite. He is currently 19 years old, and has been doing ballet since he was 6. He has been en pointe when he was 12 years old, and loves the class dearly. He looks the same as he does in the book, with large muscles, being over 6’0, with brown hair in a cowlick and icy blue eyes. In this AU, he also has very tanned skin, freckles, looks a lot younger with softer smile lines, and several bruises and calluses from ballet. He has a wider pointe shoe that he pads with paper towels, and he breaks them in by slamming them in the door. Darry wears his usually attire, but the jeans are swapped out for shorts that are easy to move around in.

Paul: Paul is the other male principal dancer and is the teacher’s last choice when choosing between them. He is currently 19 like Darry, and has also been in ballet since he was 6, and en pointe at 12. Paul has a much lighter tan than Darry, but generally follows his book description. He is a tall, muscular blonde man standing at 6’0, with darker blue eyes. He has similar calluses and bruises to Darry, but he doesn’t take as good care of them as Darry does. His pointe shoes are also wide, but he breaks them in by stepping on them with his heel. He pads them with gel pads that his parents buy for him. Paul typically wears his letterman jacket over a grey sleeveless shirt, and sweatpants.

Ponyboy: Ponyboy is 13 and has been en pointe for 1 year. He has been doing ballet since he was 10, with his best friend, Johnny, who he follows everywhere. He has very tanned skin, dark green eyes, reddish brown hair leaning more towards red, and freckles all over his nose. Pony’s also around 5’8 and has room to grow. He usually wears black tank tops, a purple zip up hoodie, and black leggings.

Sodapop: Sodapop is 15, and has been en pointe for 3 years. Him and Steve joined together at 8 years old since Steve thought ballet was a “girl sport” and was embarrassed. Soda has the same extremely tanned skin with freckles like his brothers, but his hair is a dark blonde that lightens up in the summer. His eyes are a warm brown, and he is around 5’10. He usually wears a white shirt, red flannel, and leggings.

Johnny: Johnny is 15, and joined ballet when he was 12. He has been en pointe for 1 year. He has black hair, black eyes, and very tanned skin, much tanner than the Curtis’. He is very skinny and a little short, standing around 5’4-5’5. His arms are littered with scars, and he doesn’t properly care for his calluses or scratches at all. He usually wears a black t-shirt and athletic shorts he got from Dally.

Dallas/Dally: Dally is 16, and joined ballet when he was 13, the same time as Pony and Johnny. He’s been en pointe for 1 year as well, and could not care less about it. He has pale white skin, icy blue eyes, and very white, barely light blonde hair (including his eyelashes). He’s 6’4 and lanky, and he’s Johnny’s older brother. He wears a white tank top, black sweatpants, and a silver dogtag.

Two-bit: Two-bit is 17, and joined ballet when he was 7. He’s been en pointe for 3 years, and doesn’t give a whole lot of effort. He enjoys roles like the Rat King, and doesn’t take anything too seriously until it’s important. He has very light skin, dark red hair, freckles all over his body, and dark grey eyes. He wears a Mickey tank top and skinny pajama pants.

Steve: Steve is 16, and him and Soda joined when they were 8. He has also been en pointe for 3 years, and gets made fun of for it. He has tan skin, moles under his eye and mouth, and a gap tooth. He also has extremely curly black hair and light green eyes. He usually wears a random graphic t-shirt and basketball shorts.

so first and foremost i really misread this and had a whole thing written about which characters from the extended universe (outsiders, twttin, tex) i thought would get along best with Each Other. oops.

ANYYWAAYYY. Right Now as a 20 year old i would probably get along with co-20 year old darry curtis. two-bit as well i'd find him entertaining. if i were still a teen i would honestly probably only get along with cathy carlson. 16 year old me would've Hated knowing any of those boys irl and i probably would've assumed cherry was like a mean girl or something.

however i also work/volunteer in schools a lot so in That scenario i think i'd get along pretty well with pony (decently well behaved and smart) and tex (rambunctious but genuinely entertaining).

EXPLAINING MY KNY OUTSIDERS AU BC SOMEONE EXPLAINED THERES AND I JUST REALLY LIKE MINE.

so basically it doesn’t really follow the exact plot of actual demon slayer but it’s okay I think 😞

Scout(from the series) and Ponyboy have the the tanjiro and nezuko type relationship and mark(that was then this is now) and curly are ponyboys two best friends :3 Bryon ofc is marks best friend but u get it.

Basically when pony,Soda, and Darry were younger, about 4 year before their cannon age, they ofc were very poor and in order to get money, Darry trained and trained and became a demon slayer after passing final selection, becoming a Hashira after 5 months bc of killing a lower moon, though he “lost”his best friend (Paul) because of this. Tho Soda became a demon slayer 2-3 years after leaving his home to train with Darry. Both leaving their home and only being able to speak to pony through letters. Though most were between ponyboy and Soda but Darry always sent letters when he wasnt busy with whatever hashiras were doing, as well as sending much money.

Fast forward a year after Soda leaving, pony became very close friends with a girl named scout, and when she slept over one night in their home in the mountains, he left to the village at night and stayed out longer by accident and when he came back he found his parents and scout covered in blood. And in a panic feeling for pulses and found one in scout. Then trying to run to the village and the getting his scar on his head from scout hitting him into the tree to defend HIM when (you’ll never guess) DALLY came to kill her cause Yk demon stuff. Then the whole thing happens that happens with tanjiro and giyuu with them and instead of sending pony going to a separate trainer he gets sent to Soda and Darry. With scout ofc. And that’s kinda how the whole thing starts.

tho sandy and evie are also techinically slayers, they refuse to go out and fight bc of fear, so they work as nurses, along with Cathy, and m&m helps around. My oc Marilyn is the head nurse there :3 my other OC Diane helps around with the cooking and whatnot since she’s the most experienced.

When Darry and Soda found out about their parents death they were absolutely devastated, even more so when they realize they couldn’t hold a funeral bc Hashira can’t exactly take a day off, esp multiple since it’s about a 4 day walk from where they are to where they live. Bc of this pony and Soda (and scout) lived in Darry’s home. Soda already lived there but whatever.

While pony lives there that’s where he meets mark, Bryon, and curly and became close friends with mark and curly, Bryon wasn’t his biggest fan but didn’t hate him 🙏 mark and Bryon going to final selection with pony.

She has probs forced M&M to listen to her on multiple occasions. She would also enjoy a few songs from Dion and The Belmonts, like Donna the Primadonna and I Wonder Why. She listens to The Beatles with her brother sometimes, and California Dreamin’ is probably gonna be played if you let her listen to the radio in the car.

Idk outsiders sick headcanons because I’m a sucker for sick fics

Darry

- he hates being sick. Nobody in his gang is good at taking care of sick ppl

- you may think soda would be, BUT HE IS NOT!!! Soda is caring but he would forget things

- darry takes care of himself, which makes him miss his mom a lot :(

- so he’s just miserable the whole time. Luckily for him, he’s a big boy with a strong immune system, so it never lasts for long

Sodapop

- never gets sick

- at least, when he does it’s very light and over very soon. God favors this man too much

- but when he’s under the weather, everyone is nice to him (especially Steve)

- he feels guilty when he’s sick because it’s hard for him to be there for other people emotionally when he feels yuckie.

Ponyboy

- baby 🙄

- jk but the gang treats him like he’s just a lil tiny baby when he’s sick. He gets pillows and he gets to sit on the couch and watch whatever he wants (normally he would get pushed off the couch and onto the floor)

- he cries if people are mean to him while he’s sick. If darry doesn’t give him soup STAT he gets the sniffles

- after he gets better the meanies (Steve and Dally) make fun of him for it

Two bit

- he goes to his house and makes his mom take care of him because she babies the hell out of him

- he makes his little sister watch tv with him and keep him company, she always gets sick after him

- he makes less jokes, especially if he feels really gross. He never does anything to make himself feel better though (taking medicine mainly)

- overall he’s very good about resting

Steve

- if soda and darry are the best at recovering, Steve is the worst. He has the weakest immune system, he gets sick and he STAYS sick.

- he’s out for a week for something as simple as a common cold. All his sick days are used up.

- he’s useless and pathetic. He can’t even be mean. He also looks awful

- in fact he’s very sweet when he’s sick. Once he snuggled up to Johnny and talked about how much he loved him (Johnny got sick afterwards but it gave him a much needed ego boost)

Johnny

- he tries to stay away when he’s sick, he doesn’t want to get anyone else sick

- usually Dally figures it out and forces him to come to the curtis house. Then Johnny gets babied, which he finds very annoying

- but he always recovers faster when he’s around them. He feels awful when someone gets sick after him though

- anyways he doesn’t usually have more than a cough or a runny nose, but darry makes him sleep in his bed with like ten blankets on top of him

Dallas

- he’s a jerk when he’s sick. He knows he can get away with it so he does.

- curses ppl out and then begs them to come back after they try and leave. Learned puppy eyes from Johnny so he could pull this off

- refuses to rest. Once darry had to wrap him in a blanket like a burrito and hold him until he passed out so he would go tf to sleep

- he likes to cough at ppl when they make him mad. Sometimes darry just can’t deal with it and drops him off at Bucks lmao

Tim

- refuses to be sick

- at least, refuses to let other ppl know he’s sick. He could be dying and you wouldn’t be able to tell until he passes out.

- which happens… frequently. More than once, Dally has had to drag Tim home because Tim just dropped.

- sometimes if he doesn’t have plans he lets himself rest, but he usually doesn’t have time for that.

Angela

- she turns it into everyone’s problem. She’s already the princess of the family, being sick makes it 1000x worse

- Tim and curly either do whatever she says or face her wrath (she has blackmail on both of them)

- also super cuddly, if curly comes in to give her some soup, she snatches him up and he’s stuck there until she falls asleep.

- same goes for Tim (which is why he sends curly)

Curly

- he just gets sleepy. It’s the one time tim and Angela really see him as their little brother (like they always know, but it’s so clear when he’s sick)

- they fuss over him so bad. Tim and angela get so worried because like… he’s never like this!!! He’s quiet! He’s not breaking things! He’s just lying there all day!

- it takes him forever to get through a bowl of soup because he keeps falling asleep

- also!! His curls get very frizzy and tangled. He looks pathetic and it just tugs at Tim and Angela’s heartstrings. (They have curly hair too, but curly has the perfect length to look sad and losery)

Bryon

- he’s always sick with mark. They’re never sick separately

- he’s a big boy though, like… sickness passes through very fast

- he usually has to take care of himself and mark because his mom is busy, so when he shoudk be resting, he isn’t.

- also he’s def bad at self care, he still goes out and does things even when he feels gross. He ends up falling asleep in some randos house

Mark

- always sick with bryon, always gets taken care of

- he’s short and scrawny, sickness hits him like a Victorian orphan child

- he still goes out though. He and bryon will be blowing their noses at a party because they didn’t want to just stay home

Cathy

- normal person! She just reads and sleeps.

- her heart gets super tangled though, so she puts it into twin braids

- makes M&M keep her company, which he does because they’re good siblings!

M&M

- just like Cathy, he is well adjusted and knows how to care for himself.

- his little siblings sneak into his room and cuddle with him. He knows he should tell them to leave so they don’t get sick, but he loves it too much

- his dad is nicer to him when he’s sick, M&M will be half asleep and then he wakes up because his dad is checking in on him nervously

Darry: Darry is a principal dancer and is the teacher’s favorite. He is currently 19 years old, and has been doing ballet since he was 6. He has been en pointe when he was 12 years old, and loves the class dearly. He looks the same as he does in the book, with large muscles, being over 6’0, with brown hair in a cowlick and icy blue eyes. In this AU, he also has very tanned skin, freckles, looks a lot younger with softer smile lines, and several bruises and calluses from ballet. He has a wider pointe shoe that he pads with paper towels, and he breaks them in by slamming them in the door. Darry wears his usually attire, but the jeans are swapped out for shorts that are easy to move around in.

Paul: Paul is the other male principal dancer and is the teacher’s last choice when choosing between them. He is currently 19 like Darry, and has also been in ballet since he was 6, and en pointe at 12. Paul has a much lighter tan than Darry, but generally follows his book description. He is a tall, muscular blonde man standing at 6’0, with darker blue eyes. He has similar calluses and bruises to Darry, but he doesn’t take as good care of them as Darry does. His pointe shoes are also wide, but he breaks them in by stepping on them with his heel. He pads them with gel pads that his parents buy for him. Paul typically wears his letterman jacket over a grey sleeveless shirt, and sweatpants.

Ponyboy: Ponyboy is 13 and has been en pointe for 1 year. He has been doing ballet since he was 10, with his best friend, Johnny, who he follows everywhere. He has very tanned skin, dark green eyes, reddish brown hair leaning more towards red, and freckles all over his nose. Pony’s also around 5’8 and has room to grow. He usually wears black tank tops, a purple zip up hoodie, and black leggings.

Sodapop: Sodapop is 15, and has been en pointe for 3 years. Him and Steve joined together at 8 years old since Steve thought ballet was a “girl sport” and was embarrassed. Soda has the same extremely tanned skin with freckles like his brothers, but his hair is a dark blonde that lightens up in the summer. His eyes are a warm brown, and he is around 5’10. He usually wears a white shirt, red flannel, and leggings.

Johnny: Johnny is 15, and joined ballet when he was 12. He has been en pointe for 1 year. He has black hair, black eyes, and very tanned skin, much tanner than the Curtis’. He is very skinny and a little short, standing around 5’4-5’5. His arms are littered with scars, and he doesn’t properly care for his calluses or scratches at all. He usually wears a black t-shirt and athletic shorts he got from Dally.

Dallas/Dally: Dally is 16, and joined ballet when he was 13, the same time as Pony and Johnny. He’s been en pointe for 1 year as well, and could not care less about it. He has pale white skin, icy blue eyes, and very white, barely light blonde hair (including his eyelashes). He’s 6’4 and lanky, and he’s Johnny’s older brother. He wears a white tank top, black sweatpants, and a silver dogtag.

Two-bit: Two-bit is 17, and joined ballet when he was 7. He’s been en pointe for 3 years, and doesn’t give a whole lot of effort. He enjoys roles like the Rat King, and doesn’t take anything too seriously until it’s important. He has very light skin, dark red hair, freckles all over his body, and dark grey eyes. He wears a Mickey tank top and skinny pajama pants.

Steve: Steve is 16, and him and Soda joined when they were 8. He has also been en pointe for 3 years, and gets made fun of for it. He has tan skin, moles under his eye and mouth, and a gap tooth. He also has extremely curly black hair and light green eyes. He usually wears a random graphic t-shirt and basketball shorts.

obviously mace and darry. athletic, smart, capable, really loving but kinda Cold older brothers. darry would take mason under his wing in a heartbeat and be the guidance that he never really had. I feel very strongly about this.

cathy and cherry, PARTICULARLY musical!cherry. i think cherry would rlly benefit from having a girl friend who is Not also a soc and i think being buddies with cathy would help her get over that fakeness she talks about dealing with bc cathy is very honest and blunt.

mark and pretty much any of the curtis gang, but particularly two-bit and soda. they'd get in Trouble together. i also perhaps controversially think that darry would kinda like bryon it just makes sense to me idk. tex would think two-bit is the coolest person alive. mason and steve would be buddies.

rumble fish is technically not a part of the outsiders multiverse but i just know rusty-james and curly shepard would be chaos twins. alternatively, rusty-james and johnny bc they can both coexist with pretty much anyone.
