I’m once again going to bring up the fact that if the whole “Sodapop dying in Vietnam” was cannon than he would already (most likely) be dead around the time that that was then this is now takes place

there’s something so important to me about the part of the twttin dance scene where ponyboy takes his jacket off and puts it on mark and tells bryon he’s in shock. and it’s not from ponyboy’s point of view, so we don’t get to see his thoughts: how he knows what mark is going through because he went through it himself when johnny died. to when they found johnny in the park, his face bleeding from the socs’ rings. pony’s thinking how he’s not even that close to mark and doesn’t even necessarily like him all that much but mark is his friend, and oh god, is he about to lose another friend? he thinks how wow, this kid laying here on the asphalt bleeding looks a little like dally did that night he died. a little crazed and a little scared. he’s thinking all these things as he takes dally’s leather jacket with the burned sleeves off his own back and lays it over mark while they wait for the ambulance, and he looks at bryon, at mark’s best friend and pseudo-brother looking down at the kid, and pony wonders if that’s what darry and soda looked like when he passed out in the street the night their friends died.

Do you think for your mad scientist Au, Sodapop is okay with what Ponyboy did to Darry? How did he react? And also, Does Ponyboy ever regret his decision of reviving his friends? Why doesn’t he revive his parents? Does Ponyboy ever get caught by the police? Does Sodapop mess up on his job, and if he does how does Ponyboy react?

I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS THAT NEED ANSWERS.

Sodapop isn’t incredibly… sure what’s happening? I guess? Like he knows about the revivals and stuff, but he isn’t really big on details because it grosses him out. He’s aware that Darry’s a killer but he’s not aware that it’s not by choice. He was a lot like Darry where he wasn’t cool with it at all until Pony mentioned bringing their folks back.

Ponyboy does not regret reviving his friends at all. Even though they all hate him for it and constantly talk about wanting to die, he thinks he’s helping them. At first it was kinda of just ‘I’m going through some sort of psychosis and need closure” to “I’m a god I can bring people back from the dead, hallelujah’

And with his parents… however he revives them (I was thinking like the Re-Agent from Reanimator) only works on fresh bodies (I think Herbert went through that too, I haven’t seen the movie in a while). And obvi his parents died way before he figured it out becuase he’s not he wasn’t actually a scientist (lowk still isn’t, luck is on his side I guess).

The AU is set in like the 30s/40s, and if you know anything about asylums around that time they were HORRIFIC. Police already don't really care as long as he keeps the crazies locked away. The main people who think there’s something going on are like college students or activists, I guess?? And most of the time Soda’s able to sweet talk them into going away.

Also Soda is like easily the least coordinated when it comes to the Curtis’s. He messes up 24/7 (he’s the reason Dallas can escape so often, and more often than not causes Darry to have to go back out cus he dropped something), but Pony can’t really let him go because he thinks Soda’s gonna snitch.

And while Ponyboy still loves his brothers, he’s like lowkey a little crazy. He’s downright evil tbh. He defiantly has some sort of explosive dissorder, and when he gets mad he gets MAD.

also someone on Tiktok asked why Johnny’s got the blue eye. Realistically I’m just gonna say Darry snatched it from Bob because let’s be real he doesn’t need both. Also he can not see out of it or move it, it’s just kinda of cosmetic (though it’s absolutely disgusting and Johnny hates it)

“Soda, what the hell is that?” Steve asked with a gruff, wiping the sweat off his forehead with an oil rag.

“Uhh, pretty sure that's a jar, Stevie.” Sodapop replied, smirking at him.

“No, dimwit. What's that?”

Steve pointed at the label on it, which read: "TIPS. also taking questions – SODA."

“Oh, yeah!” Sodapop perks up, turning the jar so he could reread the note he had taped on there just an hour before. He stared at it lovingly, like as if it was the best creation he made.

“We're taking questions now, too!”

“We? There ain't no we in you foolin' around, Sodapop. This ain't gonna get us no money!” Steve waved his hands at the jar to gesture to how it's a problem. Soda didn't really care, he was just proud of his jar.

“Uh, no, it ain't, but it does get us some good entertainment, don'tcha think?” Soda's face was bright as he turned the jar back around. “This place is boring! You can only flirt with girls for so long. Well, me. You got your own girl.” He pokes at Steve, winking.

Steve huffs and shakes his head, making his way around the counter and snatching up a waterbottle from underneath it.

“Yeah, well, you have fun with that.” He scoffs, before making his way out.

Soda sighs and shakes his head with a big smile. “I will!” he hollers back.

Spider-man Darry au!!

Some stuff from the doc I'm currently writing :)

General information.

Set in 1960s New York. (From the bite in 1962 onwards)

Marvel heroes all canon! Maybe just the 1960’s comics heroes? 

Curtis' family lived in Queens for the first few years of Darry’s life, but had to move in 1952 to an apartment in Manhattan as they couldn’t afford it.

Two-bit, Johnny, Steve, Dallas, Ace and Scout are in the gang with the Curtis brothers, having grown up together. They all live in a close proximity, Two-bit and Scout on the same street, Johnny further down the street, and Steve, Ace & Dallas on different streets completely. 

Mr Curtis works in construction, Darry follows in his steps and also does construction when Mr Curtis died, but Darry did odd jobs 16-19 yrs old. Mrs Curtis works in a small store close to their neighborhood.

Mr and Mrs Curtis die in a home invasion like Ben in the first comics, Darry wasn’t home and Pony & Soda hid.

Sodapop still drops out and works at a gas station.

Paul is Darry’s childhood best friend, and his father owns Hoscorp

Darry is still called superman, as superman comics exist.

They’re so broke. So so broke.

Spider-man Darry information.

He got bit on a school trip at the start of senior year, they were in a lab when Paul and Darry started messing, accidentally shattering a spider case. 

Webs straight from his wrists Tobey Maguire style, saves him from being good at science a little. (not by a whole lot, sorry Darry you’re a science nerd now! Or at least very knowledgeable about it.)

He was already pretty strong before the fight, but now with the added strength he was pretty clumsy at the start, the whole sticking to things didn't help. 

First costume was similar to what Andrew Garfield’s spider-man had.

Sodapop.. Ponyboy.. Spider-man, I sense a pattern.

From the moment he got bitten until his parents’ death, he went out as spider-man around the city to help out.

He sewed his own costume maybe three weeks into being spider-man, annoyed by how the clothes he wore restricted his movement. 

Spider-man was labelled a menace from the moment he appeared, and Darry fought so hard to try and fix his image, just like he had with his own at school.

Like mentioned earlier, he did odd jobs so he had time to spider-man around instead.

He did compete in wrestling and did a show or two, but once the bad publications came out, they didn’t want him anymore. His checks from those jobs also never went through and he keeps them in his room if he ever feels like getting mad.

Darry was out on a night patrol when his house was broken into, as he had a police radio and heard of a bad guy causing trouble for the cops. He came home to his shot-dead parents in the sitting room and his brothers hidden in the closet in their room. He never forgave himself for that day.

He quit being spider-man after that day. The suit is hidden in the back of his closet and taunting whenever he looks in.

Though he gets into the suit when a big disaster happens, which is rare, as he cannot just stand by and watch, not when he has powers.

After one of these big fights, he comes home badly injured and that’s when the gang finds out he’s spider-man. Darry was out of it as he crawled in through a window in the house, and took off his mask in the living room he hadn’t noticed was crowded. He passed out, and woke up in his bed, out of the suit, and patched up.

They try and convince Darry to go out and be spider-man more, he isn’t sure. He needs to work, and it’d take time away. 

The gang helps out Darry spider-man wise. Like having radios themselves, getting the truck whenever Darry leaves it in a rush, and despite his protests, helping evacuate people in massive events.

Sometimes he helps out small businesses when he sees they need help, and has been given food by many people. He’s always so grateful and shares it with the gang; the food they have and make at home never compares to the greasy shit spidey is handed after stopping a thief.

Johnny: Anime and cute stuff!! He's def a Hello Kitty kinda guy and he has a sticker on his phone of her <3 as for anime he likes the older ones like Lucky Star and Sailor Moon (him and Ponyboy watch those on his old ahh iphone on the school bus together). He very rarely tells anyone abt his interests in fear of losing his "tuff" status but once Dally got him a Hello Kitty soda to tease him and he was secretly so happy

Ponyboy: Headphones. They're either always on or around his neck and he always puts them on on long trips/walking around. Darry gets worried as hell that the socs will try to jump him and he won't notice. Also 3+ hour long iceberg videos

Dally: Axe body spray and he's been banned from the Curtis house a few times for using it in substitute to showering.

Two-bit: Meme generator and instagram. He runs a soc hate account for the school and he always makes the most vile memes abt them and NO ONE knows it's him 😭

Darry: Audiobooks. He always has one on when he's cleaning the house or doing chores, and recently he's been listening to the same books as Pony in an attempt to have more things to talk abt with him

Sodapop: Minecraft and the Red Dead games. Video games in general actually. He can play them for hours and it's so relaxing (and also the only thing he focuses on lol). But the whole gang has their own massive world on Minecraft they all work on on and off.

Steve: Mountain Dew Code Red and Baja Blast from Taco Bell. Actually Taco Bell in general, esp that shit that's like. a giant cheez it 💀 and TikTok brainrot ofc

i know it’s probs not part of your au or plans for darry but like IMAGINE if darry was the only one of them to not make it out of his games. the gang has to watch him die in the games where the odds were never once in his favor, stacked too high from the beginning, knowing that he just paid the price for the capitol not being able to kill the others when they had the chance

and that’s what kicks off the revolution in district 12, like when rue died. because darry was one of the most respected guys in the district, someone who only ever cared for keeping his family safe. he was supposed to be spared from the games but they came for him anyway, and now no one is safe

again though these are just thoughts lol don’t take them serious🙏 i love your au it’s so amazing!!

That... I love that. I'd just been talking about yesterday how I struggle killing any of my characters off but wanting to learn how too... Oh Sodapop and Ponyboy would be leading that revolution on two different fronts...

But I also bring to you... They only think they know that Darry's dead, and instead the Capitol does what they did to Peeta to Darry, and so when they find out he's alive they are ecstatic. They want to save and rescue him and bring him home, their new home because 12 is gone now, but then... Darry thinks they are threats, they need to be killed, Darry thinks he's still in the games.

It would take months before Darry is able to separate from what the Capitol did to him, but by then, Ponyboy doesn't even recognize his brother. Physically, yes, that's his brother... mentally? No. it's not. It would crush Sodapop. The rest of the gang would be distraught, and Darry is constantly spiraling to some degree, especially when he's able to focus in on his actual memories of his brothers and realized he'd hurt them.

Just something to think about, hehe

Also, I absolutely love that Darry would be one of the most respected in the district, just something so interesting to think about 12 caring more about the Curtis's / Curtis gang than the gang thought.

The Outsiders // Pro Ice Skating AU ⛸️❄️

- Ponyboy and Curtis brothers centric (for now)

- If you have any idea how any more characters of The Outsiders would behave or react to this AU please let me know.

- So first, Ponyboy is all about ice skating, like how he's into sunsets, books, and movies. It's his thing, even though the gang doesn't really get it. His mom, though, she's his biggest support, staying up late sewing his outfits and taking him to practice and tournaments all the time.

- But then, when his parents pass away, he takes a break from skating. One day, Darry finds him and says like, "I was looking through some of mother's things and I found all your medals, accomplishments, all that, Pony. She loved you, more than she loved anyone. You can't keep dying in your own greave, sobbing all night. You have to get back out there and make them proud."

- So, Ponyboy throws himself into training like never before. But now, it's not just about having fun; it's serious pressure. Especially with Darry taking charge, pushing him harder. You have to remember Darry was this big football star back in high school, had a shot to leave Tulsa and all, but then their parents passed, and now he's dead set on turning Ponyboy into the best ice skater in the country.

- But Ponyboy feels like Darry doesn't get him. They clash a lot because Darry's always reminding him that skating's alway been for the rich kids, not greasers like them. And the judges and other skaters don't make it any easier, they don't understand his DIY outfits and background, giving him low scores in presentation and seeing him as a greaser who skates like a girl, basically he's making a mockery of the "elegant" art of ice skating.

- Ponyboy, he thinks (like in the book) Darry sees him as a total annoyance and burden, always saying he can do better. It's like he's constantly walking on thin ice, trying to live up to Darry's expectations while dealing with his own doubts and insecurities and all that.

- But even then he doesn't care what other people think, he knows he's talented and he won't be apologizing for being who he is. He will prove EVRYONE just how wrong they are about him.

Ponyboy

Pretty much like in the book he is a little angsty and has to deal with a little too much at a young age, but he's still that guy who loves reading books, watching movies and ice skating. His drive here stems from a desire to prove his worth, sometimes leading to a touch of obsession in seeking the perfect embodiment of his artistry and a score that silences all the people who think he can't make it.

Darry

I know Darry sounds like a total asshole but I belive he's giving everything he has for pony and tries to push him like how his coach used to do when he was in high school. Despite being barely older than a teenager, He's under so much pressure and stress all the time that he might be setting some into his younger siblings.

Sodapop

I personally think Sodapop might not be super into ice skating as a sport, but he's always been there to cheer on Ponyboy, especially after their parents passed. He decides to attend one of Pony's tournaments, but he's taken aback by how intense Darry is being. He's like, "Don't you think you're pushing him too hard?" But Darry's all like, "I know what I'm doing. I'm making him a star."

Sodapop also may try to be with Ponyboy more, inviting him to hang out and take breaks from all the practice, but Pony keeps turning him down. (Steve's obviously happy that Pony isn't always tagging along anymore lol)

As time goes on, Sodapop starts feeling a bit distant from his own family. With all this new attention on Ponyboy and the constant tension at home, he starts feeling really alone. He still cares deeply about Pony and is proud of his achievements, but he just wishes things could go back to how they were before, with their family all together.

Idk, I thought this AU yesterday over discord. What would Johnny's reaction be to all of this?

Johnny and Dally hc's

Takes place in an au where they are NOT dead and the book never hapened

Dally got out of jail

Johnny tells him how hard it was without him while he was gone in jail

Dally promises that he'll never go to jail again

Dally hates how scared Johnny gets whenever he sees the socs or the blue mustang

Anytime a soc gets anywhere near Johnny, Dally gets right in front of him and gives the socs a glare that means business

Darry is begging Dally to get a job

Ponyboy helps tutor Johnny because he struggles in school

Sodapop and Steve get both Dally and Two Bit jobs at the DX

They aren't really trusted enough to do much but they help out a little

Steve graduates but Dally ends up dropping out of school before graduation

Thanks to Ponyboy, both him and Johnny graduate a couple years later

Ponyboy goes to college at a good university from a scholarship

Johnny doesn't go to college but Ponyboy gets enough money to rent an apartment for him and Johnny to live together

Dally drops by and stays the night often but is too stubborn to say that he actually lives with them

Ponyboy gets out of college and becomes an English teacher

He helps Johnny get a job at a small bookstore near their apartment

Dally quits working at the DX and tries to work with Johnny but gets fired

He gives up looking for a job

He doesn't really need a job anyway because Ponyboy convinces him to officially move in with him and Johnny

The apartment is only two bedrooms so Dally has to sleep on the couch but he doesn't mind (it's what he had been doing all along anyway)

They still go back to the Curtis house to celebrate holidays and things like that

Darry tells Ponyboy to stop giving Johnny and Dally money

Ponyboy says he will stop but keeps giving them money anyway because it makes him feel good

Johnny and Dally appreciate it but feel bad and say that they will move out eventually

They never do because they like it better living with Ponyboy

Ponyboy doesn't mind, he actually loves them living with him

OK NOW theres different types of amnesia so for everyones sake, for the need to b different and have a lil fun w this, the ones ill make hcs for is dissociative and post traumatic cause i feel like those r most likely w this guy

•theres different types of dissociative amnesia as well HOWEVER the one i could see soda having is selective, meaning its a loss of SPECIFIC memories related to a particular event/aspect of an event, and u already knowwwww this is the case w the curtis parents’ death, it was just a lot for soda and so he just, forgot it

•selective amnesia can go on from a couple minutes to YEARS, but in sodas case, it was only for a couple days after the fact, maybe almost a week???? it lasted, id say around a week

•the gang kinda knew something was up w soda, cause every morning he would get up all happy and cheerful. the gang thought “hey maybe hes just trying to lift our spirits”, but something would b brought up about their parents and they would have to break it to soda again and again that his parents r dead, theyre not off shopping or going to work early, they died, man. did the gang know it was AMNESIA??? no, nooo they did not, just “simple traumatized forgetfulness” i dont think they know about this type of amnesia😭

•sodas slightly suicidal im ngl to u. its not like he has a plan for it, never got that deep into it, its more of a passing thought “i wish i was with them” type deal. he usually doesnt think like that anymore bc he knows how badly his family needs him but when ponys asleep, it turns into a “what if i did” idea

•idk how to exactly explain this bit but id say the part of what caused such stress for soda that his mind just tried blocking out the whole event was like HOW his parents died. the fact that they died was aready a lot, dont get me wrong, but finding out they were practically mangled by an oncoming train??? yea that’ll do it😭😭he really thought about how messed up theyd b once and that broke him

•he doesnt remember the specific day of finding out his parents died, and everything else around that just feels foggy, he was in a dreamy state for longer than he had the amnesia

•ALRIGHT SO MOST WELL KNOWN TYPE OF AMNESIA!!! how soda got this one??? could b he got hurt at the dx but also getting a head injury during a rumble or while playing football w the gang is COMPLETELY plausible, pick ur posion

•at first everyone thought “ok well maybe he just hit his head n thats it, just give him ice, hes bounced back from worse” but noticed something was wrong cause he kept asking the same questions, and couldnt answer basic questions about himself when asked

•this would b like the first time they see soda being wholeheartedly annoyed and sick of everyone, the gang would b on him all the time making sure hes safe and i dont think in his current state he would 100% get that. to him theyre just being nosey or dont trust him, so he wants them to back off and have SOME semblance of independence for himself

to give him his space, they could leave lil post it notes for him to follow, everyone can see it so soda doesnt feel as “targeted” or in the spotlight

•hes having a ton of problems trying to fall asleep so thank god he already shares a bedroom w pony, maybe they just stay up together and talk till they both fall asleep. soda also has a tendency to wander so pony helped him yknow, not hurt himself while doing that. really his job was to make sure soda didnt do it at ALL, but pony didnt wanna push soda to do anything he didnt wanna do, if he wanted to wander who is pony to limit him

•having pta can cause ppl to act inappropriately in public/not able to recognize social cues and if theres one thing about soda, he has a VERY specific persona he wants to put on in public, im not saying this bc the gang would b embarrassed of soda, but bc they know soda would just not like to act like this in public, so mainly, hes kept inside till hes at least somewhat better, for HIS sake. at most they let him b outside w the gate closed or somethin so he doesnt run off, BUT this doesnt mean he doesnt act impulsive/inappropriately w the gang tho, its happened here n there for sure

•he does get his memory back eventually, the gang whipped out photo albums, played memory games (it was actually VERY fun for everyone so that came easily), pony gave him a notebook to help jot things down, they even made a solid schedule for soda so he could get back into the groove of everything. this went on for id say few days in total
