Notre-Dame’s Bells Ring
The bells of Notre Dame in Paris rang this morning for the first time since the fire in 2019.
In 2019, the 850-year-old building was engulfed by a devastating blaze, which burned for several hours.

Some photos I took of Notre-Dame de Paris just a few weeks before the fire struck the cathedral. Very happy that this beautiful medieval site is reopening again this weekend!

Restored Notre Dame unveiled with grand tour led by Macron
The televised tour is the first look inside the revamped cathedral since the 2019 fire that put it at risk of collapse.
PARIS — Notre Dame’s stone vaults, its checkered floor and its golden altar cross are glistening. As the world gets a first in-depth look inside the restored cathedral since the 2019 fire that gutted it, today’s tour guide is President Emmanuel Macron. The French leader led a televised walk through the cathedral Friday, on his final visit to the site of a herculean restoration effort before the Parisian landmark officially reopens Dec. 7.

It is wonderful to see this masterful example of French Gothic architecture restored once again!

I forgot that ur French. So what's it like over there as the Olympics go on?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tbh it had absolutely no impact on my day to day life since I live so far from the capital there was no change whatsoever in the area (and I barely go out but that's something else-)
Though I did watch the olympics on tv on afternoons ! (mostly nice but I like really hated that the french were booing in some sports whenever the french teams did not have the football/basketball etc.. like ?? What a bunch of disrespectful disappointments they were)

Notre-Dame bells ring out for first time since cathedral fire
9 November 2024
With less than a month to go before the reopening of Notre-Dame cathedral, its bells tolled again five years after a fire seriously damaged the Paris landmark.
The Cathedral reopens with Mass on 8 December 2024.
NOTE:
On 15 April 2019, just before 18:20 CEST, a structural fire broke out in the roof space of Notre-Dame de Paris, a medieval Catholic cathedral in Paris, France.
By the time the Notre-Dame fire was extinguished, the cathedral's wooden spire (flèche) had collapsed
Most of the wooden roof had been destroyed, and the cathedral's upper walls were severely damaged.
Extensive damage to the interior was prevented by the vaulted stone ceiling, which largely contained the burning roof as it collapsed.
Many works of art and religious relics were moved to safety, but others suffered smoke damage.
Some of the exterior art was damaged or destroyed. The cathedral's altar, two pipe organs, and three 13th-century rose windows suffered little or no damage.
