dean and cas love and trust each other unconditionally. they give and they forgive easily. there is never a debt to settle. never a score to keep. i'd rather have you, cursed or not. i prefer trusting, less dumb less ass. i'll go with you (again and again and again). i forgive you, i need you. of course i forgive you. of course i wanted you to stay. i've got you. i love you. etc etc. they are best friends first and foremost. they can talk to each other and be real. they know when the other is lying about being "fine" and they call each other out on it. and then they listen. they get angry sometimes, and miscommunicate often, but they are always approaching everything with the desire to understand, to work together. they worry. they make bad choices sometimes out of a desire to protect the other. keep each other out of a situation and out of the loop. take on the burden for the other. all these flaws and wrong choices are still rooted in love and care. they care SO much. that love and care is at the center of everything they do.

I'm brand new to the Beetlejuice and Lydia ship and fandom, and I feel like this is pretty much the first fandom I ever am newly arrived and already winning! We have the actors themselves shipping the couple, with Winona even saying that to her in her mind they are endgame, plus the loveliest, most romantic wedding dance sequence I've ever seen in any piece of media so far. And also a full movie displaying Betelgeuse as truly, undeniably in romantic love with Lydia!

But I see there are people who have been shipping these two for decades, and I can only imagine the level of vindication and joy you guys are feeling. You truly won! After all this time, there is an actual full live-action sequel movie where the ship leaves the realm of fanon forever. Like whatever happens, whether we get a third and final movie or not, whether Lydia ever reciprocates openly or not, the ship has already become canon because it has now been presented as a romance (albeit one-sided for now) canonically. No amount of hate from antis will remove this fact.

I think this moment in 15x15 is doing something bad to Dean's psyche. It was just... such an (underappreciated?) psychological blow.

First, Dean was obviously waiting up for Cas and Jack. It's adorable.

But notice: Cas was leaving without saying goodbye again. Here, Cas's panicking, his keys already in hand as he rushes out to find a (heroic) solution.

Hearthbreakingly, Dean actually asks where Cas is going twice in this scene. He can't hide the anxiety creeping onto his face when he asks.

They make small talk about their daily works. Cas twirls and pockets his keys, but there's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment where Dean tracks the movement of the keys with nervousness:

Dean forgets himself in the small talk, still laboring under the false promise, that the unethical plan will get his freedom (and everyone else's). There's a millisecond of happiness.

THEN.

There's a big HUH??? He does the little head turn, the same one he will do in 15x18

Dean's anger rises, just a bit, alongside the panic.

The music swells and Dean, always clued in to when something is wrong, begins to get scared because Cas is scared. He flicks his eyes down to Cas in a panic, trying to understand what's happening, to him, to them.

There's a familiar sense of confusion and disbelief here, not wanting to believe the bad news Cas is delivering about leaving, about Jack, and visually and beats-wise, it's so soooo similar to how 15x18 goes down when Cas tells him the bad news about the deal and the goodbye.

I actually think this is the moment Dean's mental health sails right off a cliff. Of course it's going wrong. Of course good things don't happen to them. Of course.

Usually, when Cas died, Dean had his trench coat. He'd keep it safe because of how much it meant to him, how much it reminded him of his angel. But also a small part of him kept it just in case Cas ever came back and needed his signature coat back. But when Cas is taken by the Empty, all of him is taken, even the coat. So Dean has nothing but a handprint on his own jacket left of him.

this has been said countless times already i know. but it still absolutely astounds me just how powerful, how phenomenal, how profoundly, breathtakingly, earth-shatteringly monumental the story of Dean and Castiel is. and a decent portion of it somehow wasn't even intentionally written as a romance. there are people out there to this day who still deny that it was a love story in the end.

i mean, look at it objectively. it's about a literal Angel of the Lord rescuing a human from the depths of Hell, accidentally developing emotions because of him, sacrificing everything he ever knew for him, willingly dying over and over and over again for him, and being fundamentally changed and ultimately saved in return by his own burning passion and unwavering devotion for that one human. Castiel fell for Dean in every sense of the word. what could be more tragically, heartbreakingly romantic than that?

wow I just watched the scene in 10×9 where dean tells cas that he's not a good rolemodel and cas says "that's not true" while looking at him with the sweetest, loving and most caring eyes ever, but it's on youtube shorts so he comments are..ehm... and one guy says that cas was like an older brother and cool uncle combined WHAT DID YOU SAY

like I can't even get there 😭 are these ultra-hetero-narrative-goggles or how does this happen (or is he onto sth??)

brother, first of all you might wanna do some self-reflection if your realtionship with your "mates" looks like that

secondly, there are enough films/series that'll suite your taste dw.

thirdly, the fight is SO over. it is done. it ended AT LEAST 4 years ago. it had been going on for 11 (!!) years. the discussion is dead, I fear.

tapping the sign that says: IF the confession / dean reciprocating is going to be something further explored in the revival then jensen / anyone involved cannot make definitive statements abt dean's feelings or destiel's reunion until it's actually shown. it would be spoiling future arcs or getting ppl's hopes up for a specific outcome that they don't have the authority to promise yet.

of course jensen is going to continue to give vague / deflecting answers. the only thing they CAN canonically speak on IS the confession because that's what's already happened. jensen can also speak on his acting choices in that scene, like how he's previous talked about where dean's headspace was at when he was sitting on the dungeon floor after.

but they literally can't be making Official Statements abt if dean reciprocates or how their reunion will play out bc we likely will be seeing that on screen and to speculate or talk abt it would potentially spoil what they're planning (since the revival at this point is pretty much a WHEN not IF scenario)
