Absolutely obsessed with how for Dean showing Cas love means keeping his trenchcoat, dressing him up as a cowboy, making him watch movies together, making him a mixtape (gay). While for Cas showing Dean love means sacrificing his life for Dean.

sam and cas are so... they're like brothers-in-law that are always slightly awkward bc their relationship only exists bc of a different person. and the first few seasons getting to know each other they keep getting pissed off if they exchange more than a few words ("he's an abomination", "i'll hunt you down and kill you", etc) but there's still somehow an inherent admiration there (bc that's Dean's Brother/that's An Angel). and eventually they do become some sort of actual friends. bc along with everything else. they realized that they can be bitchy to each other without toning it down and enable each other's most insane ideas.

compared to sam+dean and cas+dean's relationships, sam+cas are remarkably unaffected by everything that happens. they might have seasons long fights or plots with dean, but with each other they're always just kinda chill. like, yeah, course he's always gonna be there. we're friends and i don't actually like him that much but he is my 2nd closest family member in the world. he can be super annoying but i'd die for him in a heartbeat :)

Been rewatching Heartbreak High to prepare for season 2 and, while I love the show as a whole, I have to say the Ca$h/Darren storyline might just be one of my favorite queer stories ever. I'm so excited to see what they do with these characters next.

The thought of Amelia/Alfred declaring independence and then being immediately thrust into parenthood appeals to me. Imagine if you will shortly after the Revolution the emergence of State Personifications coming about with each admission to the Union (Delaware was the first one). Whether they appear miraculously or are birthed via (unwilling) parthenogenesis (which I prefer) the bottom line is that suddenly America has all these kids to take care of, all of who grow up just as fast as America did. Regardless of how they came to be or how fast they grow, America loves them with his/her whole being and creates a system in which they are always protected and accounted for by the larger government. America promises to be there for them the way England never was.

Then fast forward to the Civil War, and America is waging a bloody war against half of her/his children that see hundreds of thousands of their people dead. Brother against brother, father against son, cousin against cousin. And each secession feels like a small death because they are part of America just as much as America is a part of them, practically inseparable, or at least America thought so. To add even more complexity, not all of America's children were white or white-passing. America being neglected because s/he was to far away or denied certain rights for not being British enough was bad on its own, but imagine your parent not being able to claim you or fully protect you or give you basic human rights without public/social/political backlash because your skin is darker and you're legal property in half the country. Or imagine having powerful politicians who want to keep people who look like your children in bondage and you have to compromise with them to keep the Union whole, knowing the opinions they would have if they even knew you had children who were black (some of them do know and make sure their opinions are known). Or your other children starting a war to selfishly keep this system in place at the expense of their black siblings. The relationship between America and his/her children, with America acting as both the federal government that protects the states as well as the greater whole that represents the Union and the states as the children, each an extension of America, an integral part of America's being, pushing back against the sometimes overbearing hovering of their parent, impeding on states rights (whether they believe America is in the right or not) and protecting others and sometimes America will helplessly throw his/her hands in the air and say "fine, ill let YOU decide on this issue because I am not a dictator, despite what some of you like to think, but if you fuck up im stepping in" because America doesn't want to make the same mistakes England made in the past but then America has to deal with the negative consequences of her/his children's actions when they do something unbelievably stupid while trying not to seem like a fire-breathing tyrant. Which, they end up thinking anyway, regardless if America wasn't entirely in the wrong about butting in and taking hold of the situation before it escalated. The negative reaction only serves to make America step away AGAIN so as to not seem completely authoritarian in their eyes. It's a never-ending cycle. Not to mention the complex relationships the states have with each other, especially the southern states among themselves and the southern vs northern states rivalry.

also whenever America takes his/her eyes off the states for 1mili second to see what the rest of the world is up to (hopefully not another world war) while usually being like 'back off, geeze! 🤬' America's children immediately switch to 'how come you're not paying attention to ME instead 🥺 you always focus on the world instead of ME 😢'

why i think sam is good for destiel

... and why this trio works so well

I usually tend to read fics where Sam is in the story, and i finally understand why.

I think Sam balances out the group. Dean is very temperamental but playful, while Sam is a little more sympathetic and cool headed at the same time. Cas is unique since he can be considered innocent because he lacks a lot of our cultural references and social cues, but he is still this very powerful being that is objectively stronger than them.

Cas softens Dean's hard edges and can follow Sam's rambling, Sam is patient with both of them, and Dean brings levity. They all bring something to the table and even tho I'm sure Cas and Dean can handle a story with just the two of them, i don't know if you have noticed, but they always end up fighting and they're both pretty stubborn so it takes a lot of time and mutual effort to talk things through.

I believe that when is just Sam and Dean, Dean tends to focus his worry on Sam but when Cas is in the picture he can look over Dean which is very important since Dean isn't used to relying on anyone but Sam and even then he will still put Sam first when it comes down to it. This is why we miss Cas so much when he's not in an episode; because when he's around, Dean is so much easier to deal with and seems much more vulnerable (and because he's very lovable).

Sam is the mediator between the two and is less impulsive with his emotions (also, he makes me laugh, so 100 points for that alone).

They are pretty balanced as a trio, and i like that. Now, with Jack, things have a different approach since he's basically a kid and their dynamic is less friend group (you know what i mean) and more family, but he fits very well regardless.

So when Sam is in the story, even as a side character, it makes everything go smoother, and they aren't as angsty.

he wasn't one to show emotions, the intensity that followed him like a shadow wasn't often susceptible to such human expressions like grief or praise and accolades. he was a warrior-- a soldier and that was all. human's and those under his charge were but a mission for him to carry out for the cause he served. whatever that still was. castiel could be callously indifferent and cold, calculated and strategically complex in times where simplicity was more than necessary.

there was something significant and potent about the werewolf's constant presence in his company. how leah was quickly wearing away at who he had been dragged off the line to be. her kindness and understanding towards him... her otherworldly patience with him; sheered away his stiff and rather dry mannerisms- even his sarcasm which at first had dripped with malice and indignation had been carefully chipped down to gentle teasing and easily disguised smiles when she wasn't looking.

the stern indentation of his dark brow-line broke upwards- softening his features instantly into a warm gaze of confusion-- an uncertainty of how to proceed in his behavior. His jaw loosened and his lips parted just barely. The blue of his eyes seemed to encapsulate all the doubt he'd wrestled with for months; the color of the blue suddenly brightened with the sheen of tears that he was carefully working to blink away. he swallowed the lump that kept trying to claw its way up where words belonged. "not everyone is a monster deserving of death." his voice had lost it's normal depth, the dark gravelly undertones were quiet- reserved. "you taught me that." castiel stared at leah with an earnest gaze- for the first time showing signs of being human. "if anything, it's you they owe their lives to... i wouldn't have-- i wouldn't have sown mercy unless you'd taught me first." his lips turned upwards and the faintest smile hung at the corners.

bold of you to assume that Dean Winchester would confess his love in anything other than a life or death situation. that man is so dramatic he'd be hanging off the edge of a cliff and suddenly decide that Now is the time to tell Cas he's been planning out their forever home since 6 years ago. essentially, Dean's goal is to be as inconvenient as possible and boy is he good at it.

I like to pretend I got back into the spn fandom because I genuinely missed it, which is also true. But if I’m being 100% honest I just got drunk last April and decided I wanted to watch destiel edits on my phone for 2 hours. That’s how I returned, not with dignity and purpose but with sadness and insanity.
