ngl i 100% thought peri would be an antagonist
Tumblr media
he's the first fairy in thousands of years, born directly under the lineage of what has to be the most powerful fairy family line in current existence
(cosmo is a von strangle, and also the very reason fairies stopped having babies in the first place. he's incredibly powerful and nobody talks about it for some reason. it's clear peri inherited that destructive potential)
the second he was born, entire fairy species (including his own kin) were out to get him to use his volatile magic for their own selfish goals. he's nearly kidnapped thrice, and almost ends the universe on the same day
the threats keep coming, and he's being dragged to countless adventures that put him at risk. he literally ceases to exist more than once
anyway, i wouldn't be surprised if some form of expectations were placed upon him growing up. maybe not by his family, but he's famous (a teacher described him as such once); in fairy world, he's automatically adored and celebrated by adults and peers alike, which foop antagonizes (and tries to kill) him for
cosmo and wanda would, realistically, of course try to shield him from all this, but no matter what they do, he's inevitably isolated
people either want to use him, put him on a pedestal, or is a universally infamous human godchild who will forget all about him in a matter of years
(cosmo and wanda becoming godparents and learning (choosing) to eventually let go of their kids is one thing, but it can be assumed poof was still a young, underdeveloped child by the time timmy (+chloe, for what it's worth) got his memories wiped
and he sees that timmy's able to live his own happy life without him in it. he lost his brother just like that, and there's nothing he can do despite all his godly powers)
there's so, so many ways he could've gone wrong
thus, my initial thought was that peri was going to be a somewhat petty, "spoiled brat," and him becoming a godparent would be the result of spite or rebellion, which cosmo and wanda would feel entirely responsible for. I HATE MY PARENTS!! yada yada yada
it was a pleasant surprise to see all those clips of them loving each other. and it's not even because i doubted for a second that cosmo and wanda are bad parents, it's just what you usually expect when seeing shows from the 2000s, even if it doesn't make sense
all things considered, i'm very glad they went for the lighthearted silly family trope. not every show needs such conflicts, and showing healthy dynamics are better for kids overall
still, i find it interesting to think about if they'd gone down another route instead. i love me a pathetic cringy villain who tries (fails) to hate the people they love the most

i am just on the toon rant train today BUT PLEASE stop condemning children's shows for having fart jokes. i get it, as you get older you develop a sense of decency and don't find farts funny. but as an okder sibling to three boys of varying ages, and someone who has experience in dealing with younger children of various ages and genders, i can assure you that about 80% of them find farts amusing enough to laugh at.
at the end of the day it comes down to remembering who the show's target audience is.

Oughh it’s 2:00 AM and I’m having Thoughts and Emotions about Marceline the Vampire Queen. Like— she’s a punk bisexual and cool as heck but she’s also a terribly sad immortal with mom issues and double dad issues BUT BUT ALL of her parental figures gave her unconditional love so strong that it fundamentally saved the human race. Marceline saved the humans who hated her because her demon dad passed on the legacy that helped her grow powerful and her mom sang her lullabies and her adopted father clung to every shred of his breaking mind to protect her childhood. She was so loved! She was so loved! And that love never went away it stayed inside her even when all three of her parents hurt her so badly that the pain stuck for a thousand years. And all of the ways they hurt her were BECAUSE they loved her, so Marceline never learned to differentiate what it meant to love someone and hurt someone. So she hurts the people she wants to protect, she’s rough with the people she wants gentleness from, she abandons the people she wants by her side. And so much of the show is her collapsing and falling apart because she can’t figure out why why her relationships are all so broken. And then little by little she gets closure with each chapter of trauma— with her demon father, with her mother’s memory, with dear Simon— which then allows her to finally be at peace with herself and accept love— pure as it is— and give it back.

I feel like... there's smth about it. it's not all that good, bc the pose is a bit awkward, perspective is a nice attempt but a little off and I drew quickly without thinking, later couldn't fix it/was too lazy/had no time, but the colors, the shading... idk, I'm oddly a fan of it so I'm throwing it here.
see it as practice/warmup. I'll never get to smth better if I don't let myself fail a bunch of times first. don't be afraid of failing.

I love that The Ghost and Molly McGee's forced cancellation isn't just frustrating to fans of the show but to people in the animation industry as well. They're just as sick as we are about how much studios disrespect animation. They keep looking for the next Spongebob, Simspons, or goodness forbid Family Guy, but instead having faith in the creators and their content, they just...wait. They wait to make a profit and do the bare minimum to market their shows and make them available.
Let's look at Gravity Falls for example. I remember that when Gravity Falls was still airing, you would be able to find out a new episode was coming out based on coming across a commercial by random chance or by the people working the show promoting it online. Add that with the fact that it was on a different channel that required you paying MORE for your cable to get it. It WAS available through Disney Channel, a channel more available at a cheaper price, but the entire of Season Two got moved to the more expensive Disney XD, where Disney shows go to die, because...REASONS. With no warning or announcement. I think I found out about Gravity Falls moving to Disney XD because the trailer played during a commercial break. And that's just the START the show's problems. Mixed in with poor marketing, the show would have a crazy inconsistent schedule, where we'd have four episodes a week, a few months of NOTHING, a few more episodes a week, nothing for a few months, a random episode playing between that nothingness with next to no promotion, and all of that happening to the rest of the show until it finally died a slow death with its series finale where four episodes got stretched out for six months. That...is NOT okay. And it doesn't stop with Gravity Falls.
Steven Universe, OK KO, Ducktales 2017, Amphibia, The Owl House, and now Ghost and Molly McGee are all shows that had similar and sometimes WORSE treatments as Gravity Falls did, where the networks gave next to NO marketing, the creators had to promote their own shows themselves, and the airing schedules were so inconsistent with wildly long hiatuses that only the most dedicated fans were willing to keep watching. General audiences (mainly kids) weren't willing to keep up with shows that had ongoing stories if the episodes stories kept being too spaced apart and never had reruns as frequent as other shows like Teen Titans Go or Big City Greens (Or whatever's constantly on network TV nowadays. I don't know. I mostly watch shit on streaming).
The people of the animation industry is catching onto all of these tricks, and they're getting sick of it. They're getting sick of inconsistent schedules. They're getting sick of trying to bend over backwards in every possible way to make the show they wanted. By either making serialized content as episodic as possible so the network could air it more or by condensing their stories as much as they can, already expecting that forced cancellation to happen sooner than later. And in some cases, they don't even get the luxury of being told their show is ending. Did you know that Inside Job and Paranormal Park both had seasons that were already in development before Netflix pulled the plug shortly after releasing new episodes of their shows? Did you know that The Ghost and Molly McGee was already working on a Season Three before Disney shut that down so they had to force out a series finale that would still be good despite the cancellation? Because it's true. It's ALWAYS true. Creators want to make MORE, but the studios won't let them because they didn't profit off of it. Except they WOULD HAVE if they treated it better.
I want kids to grow up with characters that stick around through their childhood, just like I did with mine. I want kids to have their own Ed, Edd n Eddy, Codename: Kids Next Door, Phineas and Ferb, or Kim Possible. I want kids to watch shows that last more than two-three seasons, stick around for years, and leave an impact as if they have all the time in the world because to them, it feels like they do. I want kids to have a show that ends on a high note because the creators wanted it and not because the networks demanded it. But the unfortunate thing is that it doesn't seem possible nowadays. Because if a mostly episodic show like The Ghost and Molly McGee fails, despite being charming and inoffensive and something most kids will love, the what hope IS left.

If I see ONE MORE PERSON INSULTING this art style, I'm gonna lose it.
Spoilers for a panel of boy wonder bellow
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was reading in a website (it was when it came out, so it was gonna take a while for the comic to be translated and be in stores here).
And you can log in and leave reviews, and there where at least 3 people trash the art style, and not even on a " oh yeah I don't really like it" no, just fully going " this is garbage"
Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it's bad.
LOOK AT IT, it's the most beautiful art style I've seen on comics so far (I haven't read many, leave me alone).
I wish there would be more things like boy wonder, it was such a delight to read.
Also, Talia in these comics is the only version of her I like. (I've only seen her 3-4 times in Canon, 2 in movies and the other times in comics... I'm still not over what they did on RedHood lost day)

"so this kid's show you like--the dragon prince. what's it even about?" you ask
"breaking the generational cycle of violence. how vengeance destroys you. how someone can do something unforgivable and you can't stop loving them. how everyone has good and everyone has evil. that there is nothing childish about choosing love. that sometimes morality has to come second. that people are never too wise or too old to make horrible mistakes. that heroes aren't always selfless. that family is more than blood. that the blood that ties a family together often ends up being shed. that culture can be incredibly damaging. that love is as much of a curse as it is a blessing. that horrible things can be done out of love. that love hurts worse than anything. that strength doesn't always come with might. that grief never goes away. that you can grieve for someone you've never met. that you can grieve over what you never had. that 'bad' people can be the most important person in someone's life. that no one wins in war. sometimes you can't have what you want by only doing the 'right thing.' that sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. that good people hurt each other. that children have a kind of wisdom unique to them. that a child has more power than any adult. that advantages can be found in disabilities. that nothing about what you are can change who you are. that apples don't fall far from the tree whether you like it or not. that forgiveness and redemption are separate things. that old habits die hard. that the right choices are also the hardest ones. that peace is not the easy way out. how positive change requires real effort. the cycle always comes back around" i say, deadpan.

Next on the list for me drawing Demoman in different styles is kid cosmic, then I’m gonna attempt (and probably fail) jjba, so if anyone has other suggestions I might do them as well!

As much as I would enjoy a kiss at their reunion, I do think the dragon prince crew would do something softer when (not if <-clown emoji) Sorvus is made canon. I'm picturing Corvus and Ezran and Callum arriving at the castle like in the promo image, them checking up with Opeli and she reveals everything is fine.
But Corvus asks about Soren. "Where is he?" he asks, his mind already wandering to the possibility that Soren...hadn't made it out. He will himself to remain strong for his king, but his body fills with dread. Thankfully, Opeli points him to the river.
There, Soren sits on the banks. Corvus sits beside him, noticing the same pained look in his eyes that he had seen on the ramparts the day Soren asked him to become a crownguard. Now, that same pain encompassed how he sat, how he stared mournfully into the waters.
Corvus asks is he is alright, and Soren can't even answer, holding back what emotion he can to maintain his cheerful attitude. He is failing miserably. Something more terrible than the Storm Spire must have happened. Something worse than Katolis burning down.
Corvus lays his hand over Soren's on the rock. Soren looks from it to Corvus, then shifts so that he can hold Corvus's hand back.
Like Janai and Amaya, its a confirmation.
and, of course, at the end of arc 2 or start of arc 3 (affirm affrim, manifest manifest, like to charge reblog to cast) then we get a kiss, teehee

OUGGHHHH UR RARIJACK IS SO (explodes intio confetti with joy )
have uou considered: them trying on outfits they picked for each other?
or or or
Rarity washing and braiding AJs hair
or
Them celebrating the others birthday, trying to figure out what to get them and surprising them n all that
or them baking together and wgatever Ensues out of that
ANYWAYS KEEP DOIN YO THANG THEY R SO CUTE ❤️❤️❤️
Oh, I have lots of ideas for them.
Because I'm drawing them pre/early-relationship, I have a lot of stuff I haven't gotten to yet. I think, despite Rarity falling in love first, AJ is the most outwardly and obviously in love. Like, girl is in LOVE with her wife. The type to take off her jacket and put it over a puddle so her wife can cross. The type to walk around with hearts popping over her head.
Something I definitely wanna get around to drawing is how they were when Rarity first moved to Ponyville, because they would've hated each other, lol. AJ going from, "I can't stand her fake ass. 😒" to, "Yes Miss Rarity. Anything you want, Miss Rarity. 🥴" Or Rarity going from, "What a big, dirty brute. 😡" to "What a big, dirty brute. 🥵"
Anyways, later one comic idea I had for when they eventually get married is Rarity comes home to catch AJ trying to surprise her with a dinner. But things are going awry because AJ is so stressed and nervous about making everything perfect, and she even burns her apple pie. She has a bit of a breakdown because she feels she can't do anything right like she's supposed to anymore, and Rarity comforts her and tells her, why don't they bake the pie together? The comic ends with the two kneading dough together.

There is something about the way Hunter-centric fandom doesn't even take in the account characterization and the writer's intentions when talking about other characters, like they don't exist outside of the scenes with Hunter, when even tertiary characters like Darius have other things going on for them.
Ok, fandom is set in their opinion on Darius, and canon didn't care about him enough to have him voice his point of view, but look at Raine and the fanon take that they would abandon Hunter for the sake of the 'greater good', fully knowing that he is abused (which is not the same as maybe suspecting something but not having time or means to investigate or really do anything). We actually see that Raine stopped the spell in Eda's Requiem when they found that Eda had kids, that they valued their promise made to Luz in the Clouds. Knowing that and everything else about Raine, like, do you really think it was the intention to paint them as someone who would 'sacrifice' the greater good if the kids they know/kids of someone they are close with are involved (even when the kids won't even be harmed physically), but would willingly leave a kid they are not close with to suffer for the sake of the greater good? Do you really think that was the intention of the writers with this character in a kid cartoon?
And yes, the writing might have unfortunate implications or things that are not explained - sometimes because of the format and time constrains, sometimes because the writers probably didn't expect that adult fans would pick their show apart like it's a complicated psychological fantasy, and sometimes because the writing is flawed and not that great. But there is still characterization and tone of the show. And Eda's and King's relationship is almost never dissected that way.
Oh, but it's for AUs, oh, the fans want to dig deeper, says fandom. And my polite take is that no one actually stops you (general you). But the question is: are you really exploring other characters, do you care about the characterization and is respectful of it, can you write something deeper and explore complicated feelings, or are you going to write/draw another Hunter whump where he gets to shout at characters of color for failing him while they experience disproportionate guilt, and then you never do anything positive with them? And can you do anything positive with them that doesn't turn them into one dimensional props whose only role is to coddle and protect Hunter? Can you avoid racist tropes while writing their flaws? Do you understand that the same tropes and the same harsher judgement of the characters of color and sometimes white women who stand opposed to the fandom favourite white guy is something that repeats from fandom to fandom, and that it is alienating?
And my mean take is that almost every time i see a post like that, the works and authors that are recommended as examples of 'great exploration of Hunter angst' are actually just blatantly full of racist and mysogynistic double standarts and white character prioritization, so...

i shouldn't have looked this up.
so... in the 2d animator of finding frankie post. A comment said there was rule34 of finding frankie already created. So i looked it up just to see it was real, and now my eyes are scared for life. Like understand, I like simp for cartoon frankie but i don't make rule34 of him because I think the 2d animator is not comfortable having her character that she animated for a horror game being rule34.(so im going to show a cropped picture of it because I don't want to show the whole thing)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(So my opinion on this. He is mighty fine and the contestant would be me rn in a nutshell, it just feels wrong liking a rule34 of a character, that it's creator didn't want this to happen.) F in the chat for the 2D animator and the creator of finding frankie. I feel bad for them.
(Also im 18 so i can look up 18+ like stuff. Sometimes when i feel like it)
