To achieve GMP compatibility, make contact with the injectable liquid’s surface areas composed of stainless steel 316L. apparatus with eight liquid filling nozzles for the most exact filling processes. In addition, there are eight pre- and post-nitrogen nozzles for nitrogen flushing both before and after filling operations.
In a single dosage procedure, an eight-head ampoule filler and sealer can dispense volumes ranging from 0.5ml to 10ml. The machine is designed to accommodate open-mouth ampoules, but we also have a type that can accommodate closed-mouth ampoules. We provide a variety of filling mechanism options, the most popular being peristaltic pump filling, servo controlled filling, and piston pump filling. The machine has an integrated sealing unit that can perform two stages of sealing operations. Preheating is done in step one to remove any droplets that may have been on the ampoule’s inside during the filling process. Stage two sealing is done using cutters and LPG and oxygen gas. There are rollers that spin the ampoules to project a 360-degree flame onto the glass of the ampoule.
Ampoule sealers and fillers are used to precisely fill various kinds of injectable liquids. The ampoule is transported by means of the rack moving at an angle. Nitrogen purging, filling, preheating, and sealing procedures were carried out during rack movement transfer. It’s interesting to note that no liquid will emerge from the filling needles if there is no ampoule present at the filling unit.

BUSINESS INSIGHTS FOR WEEK 9 - 10
1. SNEAKERS INSOLE
Our interview with Ms. Hazel, a staff member at the store, went smoothly as she was very approachable and readily agreed to the interview. Upon entering the store, I immediately noticed that there weren’t many customers passing by. One reason for this could be its location, which is not very visible to potential customers. Additionally, the physical store itself is not noticeable enough to attract people to come in. Ms. Hazel mentioned that this is one of the reasons their in-store sales are not very high. However, since they also sell online, the store continues to operate. ----------------------------------------------------
2. BULLECER METAL CRAFT
Our interview with Mrs. Bullecer was insightful, as we learned a lot from her about their business industry. Mrs. Bullecer was very kind throughout the interview and shared many things that were new to us. One notable point was that the metal craft industry they are part of is experiencing a decline. She explained that this is due to the increasing number of professionals entering the field, which has resulted in fewer workers available for their business. She also shared that, in the past, this kind of work was primarily self-taught or passed down from one generation to the next — her husband, for example, was taught by his father. Nowadays, however, people can attend welding classes to formally acquire these skills. I was truly amazed to learn that their hard work has allowed their children to graduate and pursue professional careers. ----------------------------------------------------
3. AC GAS LPG
Ms. Sison has only been working in the store for a few months, but she still answered the questions we asked, particularly about the problems the store occasionally faces. One major issue is low sales, which I believe is due to competition with other stores—especially since customers often have their own preferred gas brand, which the store sells. On a positive note, the store’s visibility makes it easier for customers to locate. It’s also great to know that they offer delivery services, as it’s inconvenient for customers to hand-carry gas tanks. However, delivery can sometimes be a challenge because their sidecar is occasionally unavailable due to maintenance issues. When this happens, they have no choice but to cancel deliveries. ----------------------------------------------------
4. HAPPY PULP PACKAGING
Our interview with the staff didn’t go as smoothly as planned because there were customers coming in to buy. However, this is a positive sign, as it shows that their store is already well-known among customers. Their location near the street also makes it easier for people to find. Interestingly, they even have some foreign customers, which indicates that their products are trusted. The staff were very busy at the time, yet they still mentioned that, despite having many customers, their sales are sometimes not very high. I believe this could be because they sell products that are also available elsewhere at lower prices. Some people tend to prioritize quantity over quality. ----------------------------------------------------
5. 8 SPOT BILLIARD HALL
We have visited this place many times, so we’ve already experienced playing here. Mr. Sergs shared that the business started because the owner, who is their cousin, was very fond of playing billiards. Instead of spending money elsewhere to play, they decided to open their own billiard hall. That’s how the store came to be. This decision has been good for them, as I noticed that people still come to play in their store despite the heavy competition from other billiard halls in the area, some of which are larger than 8 SPOT. One key reason customers continue to play at 8 SPOT is their lower pricing compared to other establishments. However, as mentioned earlier, the presence of many competitors in the area has caused their sales to decline at times.

Major Commercial LPG Providers in India
While households and individuals need Liquified Petroleum Gas or LPG cylinders at home for cooking and related purposes, there’re also commercial establishments that require the facility.
These commercial establishments include hotels, restaurants and canteens as well as industries of various sizes. While some of these commercial establishments such as restaurants use LPG cylinders for preparing food, others use them for use with Oxyacetylene and other gases for welding or running certain types of machinery.
Thankfully, India has five major commercial LPG providers located across the country. These large corporations provide commercial-use LPG cylinders at competitive rates to consumers. Actually, there’s a slight difference in the commercial LPG cylinders that these companies supply for domestic or household consumption and the ones provided to commercial establishments.
Therefore, let’s first understand the basic differences between the LPG gas cylinders provided for domestic and commercial uses.
Differences Between LPG Gas Cylinders for Domestic & Commercial Use
There are several differences between an LPG cylinder for commercial use and those for households. However, the contents of both remain the same, which is Liquified Petroleum Gas or LPG.
Remember, LPG should not be mistaken for Liquified Natural Gas or LNG which is also sold in cylinders in some parts of India and usually piped to homes and commercial establishments in megacities including Mumbai and New Delhi, among others.
To begin with, LPG cylinders for commercial use come in two sizes: 19kg and 47.5kg. In some places, you might get an LPG gas cylinder for commercial use whose weight would vary slightly from the ones I mention here. However, this difference would generally be less than 1kg per cylinder.
The second prominent difference lies in the appearance of commercial LPG cylinders. While those for domestic uses are painted fully red, their commercial variants usually carry two or more colors. For example, a commercial LPG cylinder from Bharat Gas will be painted red from the middle to bottom while its topside will be yellow. Other companies use a combination of blue and red or red and white and so on.
The third and perhaps the most significant difference is the pricing. Commercial use LPG cylinders cost more than their domestic variants. The price of a commercial LPG cylinder is dictated by global crude oil prices and their fluctuations.
Hence, manufacturers price them to buffer against any such fluctuations in crude oil rates. This means, the price of a commercial LPG cylinder is always higher than their domestic variants. Furthermore, domestic LPG cylinders attract subsidies from the Indian government, which keeps prices low. There’re no subsidies for commercial LPG cylinders.
While you can get a domestic LPG connection from Bharat Gas and others free of cost under the Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojana, there are no such schemes for free commercial LPG cylinders.
And finally, its easier to get a domestic LPG cylinder refill because companies such as Bharat Gas have a network of tens of thousands of local distributors. Unfortunately, not many distributors stock and sell refills for commercial LPG cylinders. This scenario however is changing rapidly as more and more LPG distributors across India are witnessing a surge in demand for commercial LPG cylinders too.
Usually, domestic LPG consumers can get home delivery of their refill cylinder while commercial LPG users might often have to fetch one from their nearest dealership or the company depot.
Top Commercial LPG Providers in India
Now, if you wish to avail a commercial LPG connection in India, there’re as many as five major providers you could choose from. Earlier, domestic and commercial LPG cylinders were a state-owned monopoly.
Thanks to the liberalization of the Indian economy over the last 10 years, a few private sector players are now also actively engaged in this field. This has made the domestic and commercial LPG market in India more competitive, with consumers getting better service as companies vie for a larger slice of the market share.
Here are the five main players in India’s commercial LPG cylinder industry.
Bharat Gas
Bharat Gas is the brand name for LPG cylinders and service of the Maharatna company, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL). As a matter of fact, Bharat Gas also holds the title as being India’s first and oldest LPG supplier.
The company began providing LPG cylinders in 1955 under the erstwhile brand, Burmah Shell and commonly called Burshane. In those days, there were only two LPG suppliers in India with Burmah Shell (Bharat Gas) holding one side of the market and Esso, a brand of ExxonMobil and processed by Indian Oil domestically. Esso was eventually bought over in India by the Central government.
Indane
Indane is the brand name of the second oldest and largest supplier of LPG gas cylinders in the country, Indian Oil Corporation or IOCL. The company is owned by the Indian government and also ranks among its Maharatna portfolio. Indane supplies both, domestic and commercial LPG to consumers across the country. It has an enviable network of distributors across India.
Indane is the successor of the earlier foreign brand of LPG cylinders that were sold under the brand name Esso. Upon nationalization by the Indian government, Esso became part of Indane. Though Esso gas is now extinct in India, bulk of its consumers were successfully migrated to Indane, Hindustan Petroleum, and Bharat Gas.
Hindustan Petroleum
Another Maharatna company, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd or HPCL entered the LPG market in 1979. Hindustan Petroleum took over a company known as Kosan and took over part of the operations of the erstwhile Esso along with Indian Oil.
HPs entry in the commercial and domestic market was much awaited by consumers since an acute shortage of LPG cylinders was being witnessed across India and people in some areas had to wait for as long as a fortnight to get a refill. This has led to a flourishing black market in the domestic and commercial LPG refill market. HPs entry into the market effectively ended the black market.
Supergas
Supergas is a relatively new player in the commercial and domestic LPG cylinder market in India. The company began operations in 1996 with a small presence in Gujarat state and since has spread to various other states in the country.
Supergas also took over Maha Gas and has been building new facilities in Maharashtra and Gujarat among other places. Supergas is owned by SHV Energy Pvt. Ltd. If you live in an area covered by Supergas, explore the various kinds of commercial and domestic gas connections they offer. As a private sector player in the market, this company has made rapid strides and captured a sizeable chunk of consumers.
Difference in LPG and LNG
In India, there’s a lot of talk about piped gas replacing the traditional and decades-old system of LPG cylinders for domestic and commercial uses. Indeed, the shift from gas cylinders to piped gas is occurring, albeit at a slower pace than expected. Primarily, the metros of India including megacities, and Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities are the first ones that would be seeing piped gas. That’s because of the high demand which makes it easier to build gas supply networks compared to rural parts where the population lives over a scattered area.
LPG or Liquified Petroleum Gas is sold in cylinders while that piped to your home would be Liquified Natural Gas. The two are totally different and come from different sources. LNG is said to be a green gas and hence, environment friendly. Using LNG could help India reduce its global carbon footprint. LPG on the other hand is a combination of two gases, Propane and Butane. LNG is generally Methane and some trace gases. Worldwide, there is a significant acceptance of LNG as the awareness of environmental preservation grows.
Wrap Up
As we can see, there are four main providers of LPG cylinders for commercial users in India. These four providers help fuel Indian restaurants, canteens, hotels, hospitals, military installations, and other businesses.
Three of the providers are Maharatna companies owned by the Indian government while one is a private sector enterprise. Interestingly, we might not see any newcomers in the LPG commercial and domestic cylinder business anymore.
This is due to the growing use of LNG and piped gas in India. Furthermore, India is buying bulk LNG through long-term deals with Qatar and the US. More deals with other major LNG producers, especially Iran and Russia can be expected in the near future.

Propylene’s Manufacturing Techniques and Multiple Applications
Propylene is a vital chemical in the field of chemical engineering as it is considered as one of the most important basic chemicals that are used for the production of a number of other compounds. From Propylene oxide to acrylonitrile, cumene and acrylic acid, the derivatives derived from Propylene are a crucial factor in the production of a diverse range of products that we use in our everyday life. These chemicals are used in the production of films, fibers, containers, packaging materials and caps and closures to demonstrate the significance and usefulness of Propylene in modern industry. Let us explore the role of Propylene in various industries and the new solutions it inspires.
Introduction
Propene, also referred to as Propylene, serves as a crucial building block akin to ethene, particularly in the production of poly(propene) or Polypropylene. Unlike ethene, propene readily participates in substitution reactions, yielding a diverse array of significant chemicals. Its primary applications include the production of Polypropylene, acrolein, acrylonitrile, cumene, Propylene oxide, and butanal. These derivatives are instrumental in the manufacturing of acrylic polymers, phenol, acetone, polyurethanes, and surface coating solvents, showcasing propene's pivotal role in various industrial processes and product formulations.
Manufacturing Process
The production of Propylene is not direct, but indirectly through various other major industrial processes. Here are the two main ways Propylene is produced:
Steam Cracking: This is one of the largest processes accountings for the bulk of Propylene in the world today. Steam cracking is a process in which heavier hydrocarbons such as naphtha or natural gas liquids are cracked in a cracking furnace at high temperatures and with the use of steam. This process produces a mixture of several hydrocarbons with different chain lengths – the main product is ethylene and Propylene as a by-product.
Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC): This process is carried out in FCC units in refineries. FCC is mainly used to upgrade heavier gas oil from crude oil into gasoline. This process also produces a lighter stream of byproducts consisting of Propylene and other hydrocarbons. The significance of FCC as a Propylene source is expanding because it can process different feedstocks and likely to meet the growing Propylene demand.
Steam Cracking Units
The steam cracking process plays a pivotal role in the petrochemical sector, serving as the primary method for producing light olefins like ethylene and Propylene. It involves thermal cracking, utilizing either gas or naphtha, to generate these olefins. This review focuses on the naphtha steam cracking process, which primarily involves straight run naphtha sourced from crude oil distillation units. To qualify as petrochemical naphtha, the stream typically requires a high paraffin content, exceeding 66%.
Cracking reactions take place within the furnace tubes, and a significant concern and constraint for the operational lifespan of steam cracking units is the formation of coke deposits in these tubes. These reactions occur at elevated temperatures, typically ranging from 500°C to 700°C, depending on the feedstock's properties. For heavier feeds like gas oil, lower temperatures are employed to minimize coke formation.
The steam cracking process is characterized by high temperatures and short residence times. While the primary focus of a naphtha steam cracking unit is typically ethylene production, the yield of Propylene in such units can reach up to 15%.
Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC)
Presently, a significant portion of the Propylene market relies on steam cracking units for supply. However, a considerable share of the global Propylene demand stems from the separation of LPG generated in Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units (FCC).
Typically, LPG generated in FCC units contains approximately 30% Propylene, and the added value of Propylene is nearly 2.5 times that of LPG. In local markets, the installation of Propylene separation units proves to be a financially rewarding investment. However, a drawback of separating Propylene from LPG is that it results in a heavier fuel, causing specification issues, particularly in colder regions. In such cases, alternatives include segregating the butanes and redirecting them to the gasoline pool, adding propane to the LPG, or supplementing LPG with natural gas. It's important to note that some of these alternatives may decrease the availability of LPG, which could pose a significant constraint based on market demand.
A challenge in Propylene production lies in the separation of propane and Propylene, a task complicated by their close relative volatility of approximately 1.1. Traditional distillation methods struggle due to this narrow gap, necessitating distillation columns with numerous equilibrium stages and high internal reflux flow rates.
Two primary technologies employed for Propylene-propane separation are Heat-Pump and High Pressure configurations. The High Pressure approach relies on conventional separation methods, requiring sufficient pressure to condense products at ambient temperature, with a reboiler utilizing steam or another heat source. However, this method's reliance on low-pressure steam availability in refining hardware can be limiting. Alternatively, the Heat-Pump technology utilizes the heat from condensing top products in the reboiler, effectively combining the reboiler and condenser into a single unit. To address non-idealities, an auxiliary condenser with cooling water may be installed.
Implementing Heat-Pump technology enables a reduction in operating pressure from approximately 20 bar to 10 bar, thereby increasing the relative volatility of Propylene-propane and simplifying the separation process. Typically, Heat-Pump technology proves more attractive when distillation becomes challenging, particularly when relative volatilities are below 1.5.
Several variables must be considered when selecting the optimal technology for Propylene separation, including utility availability, temperature differentials in the column, and installation costs.
Propylene produced in refineries typically adheres to specific grades: Polymer grade, with a minimum purity of 99.5%, is directed towards the Polypropylene market, while Chemical grade, with purities ranging from 90 to 95%, is allocated for other applications. A comprehensive process flow diagram for a standard Propylene separation unit utilizing Heat-Pump configuration is illustrated in the following Figure.
The LPG extracted from the FCC unit undergoes a series of separation processes to isolate the light fraction, primarily comprising propane and Propylene. This fraction is then directed to a deethanizer column, while the heavier fraction, containing butanes, is either routed to the LPG or gasoline pool, depending on refinery configuration. The lighter fraction from the deethanizer column is often recycled back to the FCC unit for incorporation into the refinery fuel gas pool. Alternatively, it may be directed to petrochemical plants for the recovery of light olefins, particularly ethylene. The bottom fraction from the deethanizer column undergoes further separation in the C3 splitter column to separate propane and Propylene. Propane is recovered from the bottom of the C3 splitter and sent to the LPG pool, while Propylene is directed to the Propylene storage park. Before processing, the feed stream undergoes a caustic wash treatment to remove contaminants, such as carbonyl sulfide (COS), which can adversely affect petrochemical processes and may be produced in the FCC unit through the reaction between carbon monoxide and sulfur in the Riser.
Major Technologies Used for Producing Propylene
Process: OCT Process
Lummus Technology, one of the leading technology providers, presents two deliberate pathways to Propylene: Olefins Conversion Technology (OCT), which employs olefins metathesis, and CATOFIN propane dehydrogenation.
Traditionally, commercial on-purpose Propylene production methods have contributed to less than 5% of the global Propylene output, with the majority sourced as a by-product of steam crackers and fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) units.
Through the OCT process, low- value butylenes are subjected to reaction with ethylene to yield Propylene. The ethylene feedstock can range from diluted ethylene, typical of an FCC unit, to polymer-grade ethylene. Potential C4 feedstocks encompass mixed C4s generated in steam cracking, raffinate C4s from MTBE or butadiene extraction, and C4s produced within an FCC unit.
The ultra-high purity Propylene yielded by the OCT process surpasses polymer-grade specifications and promises potential cost savings in downstream Polypropylene facilities.
The mixture of ethylene feed and recycled ethylene is combined with the C4/C5 feed and recycled butenes/pentenes, and then heated before entering the fixed-bed metathesis reactor. Within the reactor, the catalyst facilitates the reaction of ethylene with butene-2 to produce Propylene, and the conversion of ethylene and pentenes to Propylene and butenes, while also isomerizing butene-1 to butene-2. Some coke buildup occurs on the catalyst, necessitating periodic regeneration of the beds using nitrogen-diluted air. The process is engineered for high utilization of olefins, typically ranging from 90 to 97%, with a Propylene selectivity of around 94 to 95%. After cooling and fractionation to remove ethylene for recycling, a portion of the recycle stream is purged to eliminate methane, ethane, and other light impurities. The bottoms from the ethylene column are directed to the Propylene column, where butenes/pentenes are separated for recycling to the reactor, and some are purged to eliminate unreacted butenes, isobutenes, butanes, unreacted pentenes, isopentenes, pentanes, and heavier compounds from the process. The overhead product from the Propylene column constitutes high-purity, polymer-grade Propylene.

Houthis launched missile strike on US ships and Israel’s Eilat
Yahya Sarea, the group’s military spokesman, said on Tuesday that Yemeni Houthis launched a missile attack on the MADO fuel tanker in the Red Sea and cruise missiles at the Israeli port and resort region of Eilat.
The MADO tanker was carrying Marshall Islands-flagged liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to Singapore from Saudi Arabia, maritime shipping trackers showed. Houthis labelled it as American, but the Equasis ship database shows it belongs to Greek company Naftomar Shipping & Trading Co Ltd. Naftomar did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Iranian Houthi militants have repeatedly launched drones and missiles at international commercial ships in the Red Sea region since mid-November, saying they were acting in solidarity with Palestinians opposed to Israel’s military attack in Gaza.
The attacks have disrupted global shipping, forcing companies to make longer and more expensive voyages across southern Africa.
The US and Britain and other naval forces retaliated against Houthi targets.

Udhyam Helps In Transforming Istri Vyapaari
To broaden the initiative's appeal, Udhyam Learning Foundation is looking to partner with additional urban groups. The neighborhood's istriwalla is a feature of the surroundings. Shall they remain in the past even if the terrain has changed with the times? Although their methods of service will change, they will still provide the same level of support to the community by transforming istri vyapaari. And for S. Raja, it has. In Shenoy Nagar, Chennai, he is carrying the baton that his parents gave him as an istriwalla at Eighth Cross Street.
Chennai resident Raja, 42, adds, "I took over from them 15 years ago." It was not a simple effort to move six kilograms of iron box, stand, and work continually in the heat. Raja said that the hardest part of the job is having to wait 45 minutes for the coal to smoulder before beginning any work. He remembers that after a long day at work, his father would apply thylam to relieve his painful hands. The coal releases fumes that are harsh on the lungs. Since he converted to an LPG-powered iron box funded by the Udhayam Learning Foundation, his work has changed significantly—nearly irreversibly.
The best aspect, according to Raja, is that he can now take one week off from work and that we can take breaks while still being more productive. In less time than his usual working hours, he irons nearly twice as many garments. "My dad used to get home only at night, around nine o'clock." I can finish by 7:30 p.m. now," Raja remarks. At the home of a neighbour on the same block, he stores the iron box and a five-liter gas can.
Lakshmi, Raja's wife, helps him out in the company and he also owns two carts.
Women especially benefit from LPG iron boxes since they may augment the household income. Raja remarks, "Lakshmi irons twenty pieces of cloth more than I do." He proudly states that 40 istriwallas have converted to this sustainable substitute as a result of his leadership.
The Istri Project: The switch to sustainability
For istriwallas in Chennai, the daily production has improved by 23.3% since switching to an iron box fueled by LPG. Put numerically, that's an average of 29 extra clothing ironed each day. This result is based on research conducted by Udhyam Vyapaar and Azim Premji University. Participating in the research were around 1300 nano entrepreneurs in Chennai who had made the transition from traditional coal-based iron boxes to electricity and Liquefied Petroleum Gas-driven iron boxes. "The Istri Project," a 15-month experiment funded by the Udhyam Learning Foundation, sought to assess the effects of switching from a coal-based iron box to one that runs on LPG. According to over 70% of survey participants, the adoption greatly decreased gasoline costs.
The majority of vyapaaris, or istriwalas, burn half a tonne of coal annually, according to preliminary surveys, the Istri Project or transforming Istri Vyapaari was started in Bengaluru and Chennai as a result of this discovery. They initiated contact with micro-enterprises that made less than ₹25,000 each month.
The project began in July 2022 in Chennai. According to Krishnan, "more than 1,300 vyapaaris have switched to this alternative option today."
Convincing the local istriwalla to choose this environmentally sustainable choice was a challenging task as a part of transforming Istri Vyapaari. The iron box, which had been handed down from generation to generation, held sentimental value for many. "We collaborated with retailers in addition to emphasising the vyapaaris' accessibility and affordability,'' adds Krishnan. The Foundation identified sponsors for people who found the ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 first investment difficult. "We brought in CSR partners to make sure the box was more affordable for the istriwala. Krishnan explains that while the person pays half of the box's cost, the CSR partner covers the remaining portion.
In the end, he adds that another initiative has been launched, encouraging the public to use crowdfunding to support their neighbourhood ironworker. Udhyam Learning Foundation intends to use this approach in more cities. We want NGOs and other organisations to assist us in reaching out to more individuals under this partner-led approach. For example, we have financed the acquisition of LPG-powered boxes for a few istriwallas in the city in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Hyderabad," adds Krishnan.
