but what if tommy does get a dog and it's a little one that's kinda yappy, like a chihuahua mixed with a maltese mixed with a corgi. kind of a question mark of a mutt. a fluffy adorable little shit.
it's been hanging out around harbor station for a while and tommy starts bringing it food scraps and after a while takes it to the vet and confirms it's not chipped so he decides to adopt it and names it frankie.
frankie takes to having a human so quickly. she's always on tommy's lap when he's sitting down anywhere. sleeps on the bed by his feet. follows him everywhere he goes.
she's up early morning ready for walkies and to go to work with her human. everyone at harbor loves having an unofficial station dog. she keeps them entertained and it's nice to have a little ball of fluff on your lap when you're having a hard shift. it's win win.
you know they spoil Frankie
she's the mascot of Harbor, when they do their photoshoot entries she's in every single picture, she's been in the official calendar for a few years now
when Tommy needs it the team fights over who gets to watch her
when Buck meets Frankie he's very clear that he isn't replacing her at all but Frankie loves Buck and that just makes Tommy like Buck even more they're adorable together
also at some point, Tommy and Frankie have those matching dog/human sweatshirts

fellas is it gay to visit your athlete rival who you haven't seen in ten years just so you can tell her that you want to see her and you miss her and also goad her into getting back into the olympics so you can see the light in her eyes again

When I put together some plot ideas for the tf2/portal crossover in like 2020, I jokingly suggested: what if Caroline was the Administrator’s assistant before Miss Pauling.
But you know what looking back, that was truly a big brain idea. So have some more old art:
Tumblr media
I also went through my old tf2/portal google doc …
And I was just minding my own business, chuckling at that dumb joke in the first paragraph, only to be hit by whatever was going on at the end there?????

Ideal scenario to me since there was a chair for Kenny, I need Chimney to be the one who drove Eddie to the airport. Maybe Eddie asked Buck first while at the station, and Buck was busy at the time Eddie was supposed to go to the airport but still was immediately starting to say that he would change his plans but Chimney cut him like 'nah that's okay I can do it', and Buck couldn't really say no, because..well, how do you explain that you want to be the one doing this. So when Eddie's plane has a problem, all he can think about is that he didn't get to see him one last time, didn't get to say goodbye and wish him safe travel (and what if him saying that had been enough for the turbulence to not happen?!).
OOOOOOOOOOOOH Chim driving Eddie, maybe because Buck is on shift? Or Eddie is on shift and Buck isn't and Chim offers because it would obviously be faster if Chim did it and then something happens and Buck doesn't know anything because all he got was a text of Eddie being like "I'm gonna get Chris" and he can't talk to Eddie and he's all panicked because there's nothing he can do, there's no search, no nothing, just sitting and waiting and that's literally worse case scenario for him, and he didn't get to see Eddie one last time and obviously, Eddie is having a moment up there too and uggggh it can be sooooo good.

Oh have you ever drawn Caroline saying her incoming “goodbye Caroline” line?
How do you see her when she said it?! I’m curious!
Tumblr media
I had to draw her today so I could say “yes I have”
The following is, of course, my opinion.
To me, Caroline is a very intelligent, clever woman. There’s a misconception that Caroline was being your average ditzy secretary when she says this line, but to me, she was making a clever joke. She probably said it with a smile and a wink at Cave when the recording you hear in old Aperture was originally made. She and Cave worked well with each other and understood one another on a certain level, to where they just knew exactly what the other was talking about. Not sure if telepathic is the right word. But they understood each other more than any other two people in Aperture did.
But there’s a melancholy angle too, I think. Goodbye, Caroline. The meaning changes as the years went by. It starts off as a joke, but I think Caroline gives more and more to Aperture as time passes, and she devotes her life to it (Cave doesn’t call her the backbone of the facility for nothing). She gives even more once Cave falls sick and eventually dies, and she takes over.
Eventually, she’s given so much of herself to Aperture and to science—once she’s given all a human being can possibly give—that, in the end, she becomes Aperture.
Goodbye, Caroline.

Tyler Lockwood discourse and “excuse” for how fans view him as worthless or unneeded is that his plotline ended in season 3/4 is so…wrong lmao. Tyler was not only the first introduction to werewolves/Lockwood legacy but he was Klaus’ first successful hybrid. But, no it would’ve been too much to center a plot on Tyler that has nothing to do with Caroline or Klaus. Tyler became an alpha, those hybrids trusted and respected him. Okay, then those hybrids were killed Tyler could’ve formed another pack. They can do more with wolf-related plotlines they just had to write those. Look at Hayley who was praised and worshipped as this werewolf Crescent Queen after she helped plot and kill those hybrids…but TO doesn’t acknowledge that ever. Supernatural world gossip spreads but that somehow never made it to the bayou…anyways…
The problem relies Forwood, Klaroline, Steroline and a bit of Klayley equally. Mainly Caroline and Klaus/Stefan’s popularity. Season 1/2 Caroline was ignorant as hell and disliked by most of her peers. Why? She always had something negative to say about everyone. Plus, her mental feud with Elena. So Caroline dates Matt who treats her terribly and isn’t over Elena. Then she’s placed with Tyler, she “changes” after this vampire transition. Forwood is equally new in being a vampire/werewolf. It’s easy to support them when Caroline is there as he transitions into a wolf. Shes not just this jealous raged teenage girl! She has feelings and emotions! Caroline’s sweet, caring, and protective these are reasons people should like Caroline. Most of time fans argue that Caroline was better as a vampire than she ever was as a human. Now, insert Klaroline and Klaus. Klaus gets to enforce power and control over Tyler. He enslaves him repeatedly, and constantly threatens his life. Tyler knows he can’t win against Klaus but he refuses to live by Klaus rules. Richard Lockwood, his abusive major daddy had already made his life hell by giving him standards to live by and abusing him.
Now this is getting long. But, Caroline gets to “see the good in Klaus” they get to have all these “moments” about nothing at all. Tyler isn’t there and unfortunately YES on Caroline’s end Tyler does look bad for being away but Caroline understood this and for awhile was the only person who got Tyler. Until, she didn’t the plot worked its way so we can uplift and praise Caroline in all her vampire girl-boss goodness! But, paint Tyler in a bad view. Klaroline was pulled out of the writers ass, there was no build-up and it’s often forgotten that Klaus intended to sacrifice both Caroline and Tyler but somehow someway Klaus is obsessed with this baby vampire lmao. But, “Tyler doesn’t love Caroline! He’s never there.” It’s not that Tyler didn’t want to be there, he was being treated like a slave. If the writers really and truly wanted to push Klaroline they could’ve done so without using Tyler. He wasn’t around anyways so what would’ve been the excuse? Klaroline wasn’t the plan but mildly benefits from mistreating Tyler/Michael Trevino and Kat Graham but pen in that.
Tyler’s entire family dies and we see Caroline comfort him through Carol’s death which Tyler fully blames himself for. Caroline gets this until she didn’t. She places an ultimatum over Tyler’s head. He chooses to leave, and it’s even a bigger nail on the head for the fandom. Tyler’s trying to kill Hayley and Hope. Which is ignored that Tyler intended on saving the werewolves as a species because Klaus DID continue to enslave and pick up werewolves turning them into hybrids for his own gain. Caroline sleeps with Klaus Tyler’s pissed and tries to keep contact at a minimum. You have Stefan in her ear all the time making comments about how Tyler’s violent towards her and all around a terrible person. When Tyler never abused her. Klaus was even in Caroline’s ear making her think Tyler cheated when that was never the case.
Tyler was used and needed for Caroline’s development and heavily plays a huge roll in her popularity. But, she doesn’t give half of that for him. In fact Forwood/Klaroline/Klayley and Steroline all functioned as a death to Tyler’s character. More so KC & Steroline ruined what good foundation Tyler did have. If Hayley could be some werewolf queen in TO. Tyler could’ve been hailed as a king in own bloodline. He could’ve found another group of friends to see as family. Jackson is a very similar character to Tyler. Lastly, Michael Trevino said for years that Klaroline was/is the issue with Tyler’s development.
side note: i forgot to add I firmly believe Caroline remains jealous of Elena throughout the entire show and expected Tyler to act the way Damon/Stefan does when Elena did something that was “bad” in their POV.

Deep dive into a very minor, very niche Spider-Man topic time!
The subject…WHO IS THAT WOMAN??? 🤨
Tumblr media
It’s not crucial to the plot, and it’s not a mind-blowing theory, I just like gathering up little background details and connecting them. :)
DISCLAIMER: While obviously the Spider-Man movies are inspired by and based on the comics, I treat the movies as their own thing because tbh...I am not reading all that. It’s Movie Universe Time!
So indeed the 2002 Spider-Man movie does have a lot of cool tidbits that give extra information on characters. Sometimes it’s very subtle, sometimes it’s more overt! So we begin our journey to discover the Mystery Woman here:
Tumblr media
95% of the words are actual Character Lore(!), with only the last paragraph copy-pasted, but Today's Focus is one particular section at the bottom of the 2nd column:
"His personal life has not been nearly as successful as his business life. Married only once, to the artist Caroline Mulder, he was divorced after ten years of what was said to have been a singularly strained and unhappy [...]"
3 whole pieces of Mystery Woman information! Her name is Caroline Mulder, an artist ("the artist" implies she's well-known at least in NYC), and they were married for 10 years before divorcing. That gives the portraits in the mansion more context, very likely that Caroline painted them.
Caroline’s impact on the story is also stated by an executive producer in a behind the scenes book when discussing how characters are developed:
"Here's a man raising his son alone—there must be a tragic story with his wife. She must have left him! Does Harry remind him of her? Does he love his boy or hate him?"
Harry does have an interest in art like his mom. In Spider-Man 3 we see him painting a still life in his spare time, after post-traumatic amnesia ironically leaves him happier than ever before. He's forgotten many details of the negative things in his life and instead enjoys reliving childhood activities and memories. It's possible painting was a passion of his when he was younger, similar to how he discusses writing a play for MJ and playing basketball with Peter during high school, but gradually became disconnected from or was pressured to drop.
Tumblr media
Knowing the marriage lasted for 10 years helps narrow down a few things, like that the divorce probably wasn't recent. But that’s assuming he was born during the time they were married, meaning Harry could have been 10 at most. Whether Caroline is still alive also isn't clear-cut...in the movie, at least. In the novelization for the 3rd movie, Peter confirms Harry is an orphan after Norman dies. The novelizations and movie details don't always line up 1:1, so it's left open imo. I feel like the paper would have mentioned her passing if she had died but...choose your own route of angst! (And wow would that add a whole new layer of awful to Norman’s misogynistic “advice” about women to Harry if he’s shit-talking his dead ex-wife.)
If Caroline is alive that opens a new batch of questions about where she went. Do they have any sort of shared custody situation? Doubtful, as Caroline seems to be totally cut out of the picture and only exists in the story via possessions. But if the marriage ended bitterly, and some years ago, why is her art and her collections present at all? Her portrait makes sense to keep, as it's revealed in the sequel to be the cover for a hidden safe.
Tumblr media
(That's another fun symbol, hiding treasures behind a loved one's image. A place for safety and precious things, hidden from public view.) Other pieces of art seen around the house raise more questions about sentimentality. If Norman hated any reminder of his ex-wife, why keep her work? Why keep it for so long and have it displayed prominently?
I will not let this derail into A Norman Post (it would not end I could not stop) SO my personal take is that it’s probably a mixture of some longing for the past, but mostly spite. Keeping the art is a reminder that while he lost her, he also won. What was hers is now his (son included). Which may factor into why we don’t see Caroline involved with the family at all. Either she didn’t want to be, or she was prevented from doing so. Honestly it would not be surprising to cut all ties, as I do not think many would want to test their luck in a legal battle against a vindictive person who holds a massive amount of money and potential life-ruining influence.
I could also talk about Harry forever but in short I think these details make him more interesting. It's another angle as to why he seems so conflicted and avoidant about family issues, to the point he physically distances himself from them whenever possible. He might have had a strong connection with his mother, but it likely wasn't something he could talk about without Norman taking it as a personal betrayal. Still, he's surrounded by memories of her and keeps his own mementos nearby.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ There's a photo of her in the apartment he and Peter share, the same image as the portrait (on the middle shelf to the left 🔍). Interestingly, like the portraits, the photos of his parents are kept apart. But here his mom is given more focus on a higher shelf.
Despite the work that went into backstory creation, multiple photographs, and a painted portrait, I haven’t been able to find who "played" the role of Caroline. It would be neat! But it’s also just cool to see how background details offer glimpses of a larger story if you want to look for them. :)

i was told you wanted questions about gothic lit 👀 i want to know more about the Guys i keep seeing on my dash. like all i know about frankenstein is that victor makes some guy and fucking hates his guts (my brother in christ you made the guy) and i’m vv curious as to who all these other characters are
YAYY TYSM FOR ASKING ^_^
okay so i will try to do a frankenstein summary, or at least introduce the characters. if you want the full proper experience you should read the book!! alternatively osp has a pretty good video (but u should. seriously read the book)
so, lets start. meet the characters :3
-> victor frankenstein. the guy himself. our miserable protag. best friends with henry clerval, engaged to elizabeth lavenza, made the creature slash adam (<- this is a fanon name! He never gets named in canon which is sad)
-> adam frankenstein slash the creature, the Guy that victor created then subsequently abandoned. he makes me so sad dude his story is so. AUGJHGH
-> elizabeth lavenza! she was adopted by the Frankenstein family out of poverty and is victors. er. cousin. slash sister. slash future wife. yeah it sucks. shes pretty chill though, i like her
-> henry clerval! victors best friend (totally not boyfriend /j) and perpetual ray of sunshine. hes so silly i love him so much
-> justine moritz, william's nanny, also kinda got adopted by the frankensteins. best friends with elizabeth
-> william frankenstein, victors youngest sibling & ernest frankenstein, the middle child. ernest gets mentioned once and is never brought up again for some reason
-> alphonse frankenstein, victors dad & caroline beaufort, victors (dead) mom
-> captain robert walton, the guy who finds victor in the artic. hes technically the one writing the story since hes writing down victors narrative to. send to his sister. like the whole book. he is also down bad for victor which is really funny tbh
-> the de lacy family (+ safie) , they're important to adam's story but otherwise irrelevant
i think that's it for the characters!! might do a quick summary sometime later

MALMAISON MEDIA SALON SOIRÉE 15: NEEDING NAPOLEON (2020)
Tumblr media
1. The Introduction
Hello, Neighbors! Welcome back to Malmaison Media Salon! At last we’re here and today is a bit of a special review. Why special?
Let me explain:
1. Firstly, it’s one of those cases where I stumble upon a media piece via recommendation from another community member. This time it was @suburbanbeatnik , who interviewed the author of the book and there was a contest where the first 3 users to comment would get a free ebook copy via email.
I was the first to comment because I was given the link and because I was really excited about what sounded like a promising story, considering my soft spot for the adventure genre, time travel and alternative history. So yeah, I became one of the lucky three users.
Unfortunately, the book is only available in English and has to be purchased through websites like Amazon, so those who don’t speak English too well might be out of luck for now.
2. Secondly, it’s one of the few anglophone (British, to boot!) media pieces that DO NOT paint Napoleon as a villain! How cool is that?! For newcomers, stumbling upon a gem like that is about as likely as seeing a UFO, so you can bet your asses that I HAD to check out the book!
3. Thirdly, I already mentioned that I’m a sucker for adventure, time travel, historical fiction and alternative history so that really boosted my excitement… as well as my worries. I prayed that the book would turn out to be good. Luckily, it did! More on that later though.
Anyway, before we proceed, this review is dedicated to @suburbanbeatnik and @garethwilliamsauthor . Not only is the latter, well, the author, but he also graciously gave me permission to write said review and I’m thankful for this.
Okay, with formalities out of the way, let’s begin!
2. The Summary
The novel tells the story of one Richard Davey, an ordinary schoolteacher who admires Napoleon and lives a very boring, lonely life.
However, during a fateful holiday in Paris, he gets a chance to leave his old life behind, meet his hero and maybe even change the course of history.
To me, the idea sounds very interesting, so let’s move onto the deeper analysis and see if the execution matches the potential.
3. The Story
Although the beginning of the story did confuse me a bit because we jump straight into action, I. Fucking. Love. This. Book. I was extremely hooked when reading and felt like I was back in my childhood, reading my favorite swashbuckling stories. The excitement is REAL.
The pacing is excellent, most loose ends get tied up in the end, the ending is satisfying yet also realistic and we don’t have the protagonist getting everything he wanted, which is awesome!
I did have a problem with the flashbacks though, mainly because they kept popping up and breaking the storyline immersion, but that’s just me.
Also, there’s a good mix of gritty artlessness (in a good way because it doesn’t gloss over war), a swashbuckling adventure, romance and down time (we can’t have action ALL the time).
The romantic subplot is very well-written and realistic, even though my asexual self still didn’t care much because I don’t normally like romance. Spoiler, it’s one of the few times where the protagonist doesn’t get the love interest in the end, for a lot of reasons.
So yeah, only minor complaints here and there.
(Oh, and tiny bonus for the Frev community: Frev isn’t demonized either!!! Yay!!!)
(P. S. Also there were a lot of moments that cracked me up, like the pun with HMS Bellerophon being called Billy Ruffian.)
4. The Characters
Richard Davey is by far one of the most relatable characters ever, since I can relate to his loneliness (me during the worse days of depression) and love for History (I’m a Frev and Napoleonic nerd). He’s flawed, reacts realistically and in his own way to situations and has a great character arc, from a man just going with the motions of life to a hero who can and does make a difference in history, just not in the way he first planned.
Emile Béraud, a soldier Richard befriends in the past, is an absolute sweetheart. Loyal to a fault, friendly and just as lonely as Richard, he takes part in the adventures and is a very compelling character.
Aunt Patricia, Richard’s only living relative, might be a minor character who doesn’t personally appear, but her presence is felt throughout the story and Richard constantly imagines what she would have to say in his position and how she would judge him.
Madame Odillet, the owner of an antique shop who helps Richard get back in time, is a mysterious woman with a troubled past, who definitely knows more than she first lets on. I like the book parallels between her and witches, even though she’s just a regular human.
Napoleon starts out as an insufferable punchable prick, but later on his portrayal becomes nuanced. He loves and misses his son, has a soft spot for kids, has a temper and at times alternates between acceptance of his fate and resolve to fight back. He’s not in a good place mentally nor physically, but he’s portrayed as someone flawed yet far from being a bad person.
Jerome is an arrogant hedonistic ass. Full stop. But he’s a minor character so I can understand why he’s not as nuanced, even if I wish there was a bit more complexity.
Gourgaud is an impulsive and arrogant bastard who is loyal to his emperor yet entitled due to having saved said emperor twice.
Bertrand and Fanny are extremely sweet.
Las Cases… I found him unpleasant and arrogant.
Murat and Caroline are mentioned and, LUCKILY, not depicted as traitors.
Ney in his cameo is his usual post-Russia reckless self (he possibly had PTSD, I believe).
Overall, the cast is memorable and I did enjoy the portrayals for the most part.
5. The Setting
The descriptions really sell the setting here, in my opinion. I particularly enjoyed the scenes at Malmaison where Napoleon essentially is Richard’s tour guide.
Always nice to see that the author really did their research and has a way with language to make immersion that much easier to achieve.
6. The Writing
Once again, the descriptions. Short, sweet, to the point.
The language is mostly easily understandable, but there are French words sprinkled in that (fortunately) can be more or less understood in context. I wish there were footnotes with translations though. Oh, and some words were unfamiliar to me as a foreigner so please keep that in mind too.
7. The Conclusion
If you can, please give the book a go. Remarkable adventures, nuanced characters and believable settings that are reminiscent of swashbuckling novels are definitely worth your money, in my humble opinion.
Of course, no work is perfect but I throughly enjoyed this one despite some flaws and I look forward to reading the sequel. It’s not every day we get an anglophone pro-Naps media piece, after all.
On that note, let us conclude today’s soirée. Please stay tuned for updates on future reviews, my dearest Neighbors.
Love,
Citizen Green Pixel
