Anyone up for a parade? The Schembartlauf (“the running of the masked men”) was a traditional element of Carnival in Nuremberg in Franconia. Celebrated on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, it consisted of a parade of men in masks and ornate costumes who came down from the castle into the city, culminating in a dramatic destruction of their parade float in the town square. The Schembartlauf is first documented in 1449 and came to a disastrous end in 1539. Read more about this tradition in Masks, Hells, and Books: The Nuremberg Schembartlauf (1449-1539).

Although I’m excited for the country-exclusive cultural events on the qsmp, I’m also hoping for more international holiday events where everyone gets to show the unique way their culture celebrates the holiday
#qsmp#like the different ways new years is celebrated or more countries independence days since the Fourth of July is having a sorta’ve event#not sure if the smp will last this long but I’d be most excited for the carnival holidays#I know it’s rlly big in Brazil and England has shrove Tuesday#none of the Americans are gonna do Mardi Gras and I have to accept that (😔) but maybe I can see the holiday from a France perspective?

I zwear every year I gotta take out my plague doctor mazk almozt a week before shrove tuezday juzt to be able to get the fucking duzt off of it.
