Wenda, Wenda, and Wilma

(don't really a ton of those to be frank, so this should be short)

•》Wenda (2019)《•

Full name: Wenda Olson

* Been in the Wanders' Society as long as she could remember, is the one who both introduced Pre-transition! Odlaw and Wally to it.

* Slight trust issues after Pre transition! Odlaw left her mid mission to join the Anti Wanderers Society, leaving her in the middle of an island with no way to head home, so was intially a bit taken a back prior to episode 1 that Wally wanted to join; at first

* Similar to Waldo, her parents weren't around much, which was something they quickly bonded over. However unlike Wally, she has no recollection of what her parents look like, not even a name-

-Speculated by few to be related to a few Wizards, but no one would or could confirm if said speculations were true. As far as she knew Whitebeard (2019) was the closest to a parental figure she had.

* Saw Wally as almost a brother, if not a really best friend

* When the both graduated Wanderers' Society, she stayed behind to become another Wizard and teacher of the Wanders' Society; the last thing they said to each other was a promise to keep in touch; something they both held up less and less as they got older.

* Joke headcanon here that ties to the next character; but if 2019 Wenda and 1991 Wenda/Wilma met at the same age, Olson would be target 101 of the twins chaos.

* Full Name: Wenda Charlotte Wilder

* The older identical twin of Wilma, but was more of a troublemaker of the two. Matter of she's the reason they went though so many nannies, with her using Wilma as a decoy while she ran off. It wasn't until their 9th nanny, who actually had experience with twins, that their scheme was ruined and was ratted out.

* Like Olson, she met Odlaw far before she met Wally, offering to help Odlaw with math homework and tutor him. They've been friends since, less so with Odlaw's scheme to steal her boyfriend's magic walking stick.

-Still hangs out with him sometimes, but that's more of a once in a blue moon kinda thing.

* Met Waldo in high school, but fell in love with him during her finals project for photography. It was a photoshoot of a lovely river flowing by a blooming willow with a family of ducks, but as she took a picture, it was disturbed by our candy cane fellow chasing after Woof. Many apologies and chit-chat was made that day, and Wenda still has this picture hanging up in her apartment. Had no clue Waldo was the same guy Wilma was dating at the time, so.. it's still a bit awkward.

* Full Name: Wilma Ann Wilder

Poor girl.. never stood a chance. Was always served as a second fiddle to her older sister. Even when Wenda was behind her back, she never ended up with the boy..

* Moved out of the apartment, dropped college, and left her things there the moment she found out Waldo and Wenda started dating. Never to be seen again..

* She moved out into a larger city and reapplied to another college, ofc finding herself working part time in the fast food chains and sleeping in her car.

* Passed college and gained a masters in photography and forsenics, and set out to travel the world a bit. Stopping by a cute bakery in Egypt, she accidently came across a certain theif in red who's also known for having "Where" as an associated question YEP, WILMA X CARMEN SANDIEGO BBYGRL-

* They would later go on to have a surrogate and have Waldo's nephew Willy (red hair)

* Wilma still doesn't like Waldo, not even bothering to visit in fear of the memories occuring again (plus her Gf's job could lead the three of them in trouble if people were to find out, and unforturnately Wilma knows what type of person Waldo is , or thinks she does) but let's Willy visit him now and again to either babysit or hang out. One day they'll work it out.. or not-

since it's pride month, i want to highlight my favorite underrated/underappreciated queer characters and ships! (part 1/???)

Lake - Infinity Train (non-canon)

it's not canon but you cannot tell me that Lake isn't an allegory for trans/nb people. her arc is so beautiful and her character resonates with me so much!

i have to admit, i actually kinda hated her in the beginning because of how aggressive and rude she was, but she actually gets good character development and you can also understand why she was the way she was, being a good representation of a minority who is constantly suffering because of the social norms she’s forced into. also i don’t ship her with jesse but i do like the idea of them in a qpr or just being platonic besties.

(i use she/her pronouns for Lake because that's what they use in the series, but also because not all non-binary people use they/them, and it's kinda weird to see people insist on using they/them for Lake just because she's nb-coded. she has never shown an aversion to bring referred to with she/her pronouns.)

Le Chevre x El Topo - Carmen Sandiego (canon)

they are side characters who don't play a huge role in the narrative but they are a really cute couple and have been confirmed to be canon! even without the confirmation, it’s clear that they were written to be a romantic couple.

mild spoiler: after the series ends, they stop being antagonists and instead put up a food truck together! it’s the cutest thing, i swear

Ryan x Min-gi - Infinity Train (non-canon)

my OTP through and through! i say non-canon but the romance is so heavily implied, you cannot ignore it.

they're a good example of childhood friends who had a complicated relationship where both individuals did something wrong, but in the end, they grow as people and manage to mend their relationship together.

Moomin x Snufkin - Moominvalley (canon)

i have only read one of the books and watched a few clips of these two characters but from that alone, it's clear that they were written as lovers (and the author is queer too!)

they are a beautiful portrayal of long-distance relationship where both individuals have different needs in life, but still want to be with each other regardless.

Terrestrius / Terry - The Dragon Prince (canon)

Terry is canonically transmasc and they actually manage to explain this in the series, without making it sound too forced or expository. he's such a sweetheart too, and his relationship with Claudia is actually really sweet, despite the fact that she's one of the villains.

Carmen x Julia - Carmen Sandiego (non-canon)

again, i say non-canon but it is heavily implied that they have feelings for each other, especially in the extra interactive episode, where Carmen leaves a bouquet of red roses for Julia, and Julia is shown to blush when receiving them.

Amaya x Janai - The Dragon Prince (canon)

what’s that? it’s actually possible to write an enemies to lovers romance that is healthy and not extremely abusive?

Amaya and Janai have such a good relationship in S5 (and Amaya is also a great disabled representation!) Janai actually learns sign language to communicate with Amaya, and there are no unnecessary miscommunication plots or drama, they’re just a really loving wlw couple.

Benson x Troy - Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts (canon)

when i say we need more mlm ships in animated media!! i’m so glad us sapphics are getting a lot of representation but it’s time cartoons started including more queer men.

benson and troy are just a really sweet couple with a good relationship that doesn’t have a ton of pining or unnecessary angst. while i love complex and tragic queer relationships, i also think that it’s good to show teenagers just being teenagers sometimes.

this opinion seems to be scarce in the queer community, which really annoys me tbh.

Raine x Eda - The Owl House (canon)

i cannot believe that given the popularity of TOH, Raeda is still such an overlooked ship. this might be an unpopular opinion but Raeda is better written and has more chemistry than Lumity and Huntlow.

just within the span of Raine's introductory episode, they managed to establish a clearly romantic past between these two characters, and also an interesting dynamic. and even though they didn't have much screentime, they still turned out to be the best ship in the series. (again, just my opinion, don't come at me)

i think it's so important to show older queer people in media, just as it is important to show younger queer characters. it helps establish the fact that queerness has always existed and isn't some newfound trend that social media invented. not to mention, raeda is one of the very few canon ships that include a non-binary character.

going off of the sheer amount of fanfiction i've read saying the contrary, I think this may be considered an unpopular opinion, but I firmly believe that player is like scary good at lying. I don't think he particularly likes lying, but he can, you know? like on the rare occasion that he has to, carmen will listen to him lie straight through his teeth like it's nothing and get really really concerned. because like. hello? where did you learn to do that? sir?

I don't know, watching s2e7 is so funny to me because this is the first time he's interacted with someone outside the team for a caper, and he immediately gets into the deception, fake accent and all. no hesitation. carmen switches the plan on him, and he's the one who has to relay that to gray while still maintaining the lie. and he does it! full confidence! and when graham pushes back, player pulls out the "haha yeah the crowds going crazy :)" and gets him to go along.

and hey! this plan was fucking ludicrous and stupid. I have such a love-hate relationship with this episode. it is everything to me. it's fucking idiotic. it's beautiful. it's a god damn joke. when the plan DOES eventually fall apart, that is not on player because buddy did his best with the silliest plan known to mankind. okay? he was ON it in this episode, I love it.

it's also the screening he did during the second act of the pilot. "strange people kept answering your phone!" and you kept calling?? did you have these silly goofy little lies already made? or were you just coming up with them on the fly?

or what about in season 4 when zack and ivy come to his school posing as exterminators? they can't agree on a lie and arrive at making up a new kind of insect, and player is so quick to back it up. the embodiment of "yes, and?" kid can roll with the punches, it's great.

like, there's a reason he and carmen are best friends. she was raised to be a thief and was pretty much born for their line of work, but player is kind of perfectly made for it as well. that's a guy who can continue a bit. his confidence with this stuff is both impressive and reckless, and it has GOT to keep carmen up at night. I love him.

The fact that 99% of the people I know call Carmen Sandiego (2019) a “baby show” is fucking INSANE.

Like, who DOESN’T love a show about a lesbian international super thief as she travels the world targeting the evil shadow-corporation that where literally her ex-“legal” guardians/a school made to gaslight young adults/older teens into being fucking criminals? Not to mention it actually teaches some pretty cool facts. Plus the ART? The PLOT? The fucking PLOT-TWISTS!? Not to mention the relationships and characters are just fucking phenomenal.

To me, Carmen Sandiego will ALWAYS be #1

btw this is my cue to tell y’all to check out carmen sandiego, if you haven’t already! it’s not super deep but it still has a compelling storyline and good messages. and most importantly, it has ACTUAL poc representation, various male AND female characters with different body types, and some casual queer representation.

(mild spoilers below, because i really want to gush about this show)

it also does a lot of the stuff that spop fails to do. shadowsan gets a pretty good redemption arc and carmen isn’t forced to trust or forgive him immediately. he also has an arc with his brother where he rights the wrong he once did, and actually puts in effort to be a better person (and if i remember correctly, his brother still doesn’t forgive him, which is actually really refreshing to see). when the villains try to drive a wedge between carmen and shadowsan, they actually talk things out and COMMUNICATE instead of jumping to conclusions for added drama.

the show also places a lot of emphasis on platonic relationships. carmen’s quest to learn the truth about her family and find her mother is prioritized over her love life. she has a really wholesome friendship with player, ivy and zack (especially player, i love how much they care about each other) and she develops a nice father-daughter type relationship with shadowsan. she also has a platonic sibling-type relationship with her childhood friend graham, and she insists on keeping it platonic and referring to him as her older brother, even when he starts showing romantic interest in her (they weren’t raised as siblings or anything btw they were just school friends).

in the end, the villains get arrested and actually have to pay the price for what they did. and they weren’t even war criminals, they were just thieves, but the story doesn’t insist on coddling them or redeeming all of them for no reason. and the kids (now adults) who were raised in V.I.L.E get a chance to redeem themselves without imposing themselves on any of the people they hurt.

i also love that this isn’t a story of a chosen hero. carmen chose her own destiny, it was not thrust upon her. she was just a normal person and she continues being a normal person while trying to do good in the world, and inspiring people to follow her lead along the way. not to mention, i really like how refreshing her personality is. she’s sassy and cunning and quick-witted, she sometimes uses dubious methods to do the right thing, she knows her worth and knows when to set boundaries, and she’s a hero despite not fitting into the ideal hero archetype.

carmen sandiego here! not much of an update because i'm just back home from a trip after ignoring fandom drama for a few days (to the point where i just found out about the "contract" thing) but i will say this: they are convinced he's not back for s8 (or at least they were until after that photo was posted) but somehow, for some of them, it's not because of how things got out of control (meaning it's not Lou's fault because of the things he started with the cameos) but because of us.

obviously we're the bad guys. we're toxic and we forced Oliver and Tim (who both wanted to continue the BT storyline) to end it because of the hate. But also somehow Lou was the one tho decided not to come back because of his mental health or whatever. funny how they care about Lou's mental health but use Ryan's against him...

anyway, i'm still laughing with the contract of it all and i'm having the time of my life with all the Kenny/Oliver/Ryan content. hope you have a nice day too 🩷

Something funny about the idea that Lou would ask you leave/refuse to come back, is that I keep thinking about Megan and the way people absolutely hated her and the way she was even dealing with Oliver posting annoyed emojis while their scenes aired and she stuck around for a whole season anyway. Like, they keep saying we bullied him out of the internet. Where? Because while I don't think he's that great of a person, most people I see are fully capable of separating Lou from Tommy. I am yet to see someone say something about Lou that's half as bad as the shit people said about Megan or Edy. In fact even Oliver talked about the contrast with the way the fandom reacted to him. If he's being written off off-screen or on episode 1 is either because of the fact that he was turning a profit while pretending to have creative power and broke his contract and blew his own career or because they made it absolutely impossible for them to do anything without it becoming a situation. Multiple things that would've just been a normal day in fandom became a pr nightmare because they feel entitled to something the show never promised them. If they had calmed the fuck down instead of acting like hating on everything that moves was the way to get him to stay, then there's a chance he would have stayed in some capacity. They turned him into a risk and he's not worth it because he doesn't bring the numbers to counter the chaos they bring. We're bullying Lou of the internet and he needs to protect himself, because oH PoOr tHiNg tArGeT Of tHe mEaN BuDdIeS, but somehow it's okay for them to say they wish Ryan's suicide attempt had worked? It's okay to go on a platform with their whole face and talk about how they wish the show would make Eddie kill himself because Ryan would make it realistic because of his experiences? But sure, were the ones being detrimental to someone's mental health. Oh fuck off.

He's only supposed to pick up the packages from the V.I.L.E. operatives after they have been "collected" and then deliver them to you. It's a job, one that he greatly enjoys, that comes with minimal risks. He doesn't have to go into museums or vaults and have to worry about dodging guards and tripping security measures. No, the only thing he has to do as a courier is to hand over the packages to you and take in your reaction. To bask in your joy as you admire the newest addition to your collection and preen under your compliments as you thank him for another job well done.

It's why he knows he has to get you something great for your birthday. A birthday he has been meticulously keeping track of on his device - though there was no way he could ever forget any detail about you. He's not worried about what to get you as he knows exactly what to get you: the Winter Fabergé egg.

It's a beauty, though it pales in comparison to yours. Frost seems to cover the egg, with an opaque white coloring on the outside surface. Ice crystal studded with diamonds and made from quartz, platinum, and orthoclase covers the exterior. As impressive as the outside is, it's the interior, the surprise, that seals the deal. Opening the clasp at the top reveals a miniature flower basket inside. A basket that is studded with diamonds and is made from platinum and gold, the wood anemones are made of white quartz, the leaves of demantoid, and the flowers lie in gold moss.

It's the perfect thing to get you as it would round off the nine you already have which is why it's the reason why he went to Qatar and infiltrated the Doha Royal Palace with Tigress, Mime Bomb, and Neal the Eel. He wanted to do something big for you - a grand gesture to show his devotion to pleasing you - which is why he decided to personally be a part of the retrieval process.

There were many instances during the infiltration when he regretted having come up with that idea and wished he had just stuck to his usual courier duties after being forced to endure Neal's puns and Tigress' yells at Mime Bomb. Though he had doubted it greatly during the mission, the egg had been secured with surprisingly no alarms raised.

And now days later on your birthday, he holds out the Fabergé egg to you with a bow, arms outstretched as he presents Winter. Dash hears you let out a sharp gasp and you take the egg into your own hands. He straightens up and a smile appears on his face as you trace the ice crystals with a finger before moving upwards and unclasping the top. Your breath hitches when you see the spring flowers. You trace one of the flower's petals and admire the demantoid center.

Setting the egg down on a nearby table, you take large strides to reach Dash. He straightens his posture, preparing himself for your praise but he's left shocked when you lean into him and press a kiss at the corner of his lip. Despite it being everything he had ever hoped for, he left frozen and has no clue what to do next. You move to whisper into his ear, "Thank you for the Fabergé," before leaving the room.

But maybe he doesn't regret the infiltration so much, he thinks, raising a hand to where you kissed him as his face flushes a bright red and gives a wistful sigh.
