↳ Background: Born on June 27, 1996 to Clara and Michael Rivera, Carmen had a relatively good life growing up. Her mom is an accountant and her father is a fiancer on Wall Street and though they were pretty much laoded and would be considered part of the 1% Carmen didn’t grow up getting everything she wanted. In fact, her parents rule was, if she wanted it, she had to work for it and they kept that rule up until she graduated from MIT a few years ago.

For her graduation, they helped her get her dream penthouse in Manhattan, along with a full staff as well! She is now living her best life in Manhattan and likes to say she “Lives in the clouds”, which is pretty much true because she got one of the top penthouses.

Carmen has a career in Microsoft thanks to her Unified Engineering Degree and spends a lot of her time doing whatever she wants, when she wants. Sort of taking back that time she didn’t get to enjoy in her teen years. 

During her free time, Carmen can be found at a bar, club, conert or maybe in Central Park if she’s not too hugover.

Wait, wait, WAIT!!!

I was browsing Tumblr with the # of the book of life and I came across posts that I hadn't seen in years, and I came across a theory that grabbed me instantly.

You probably know about it: It’s said that Carmen (Manolo's mother), because she is part of the Rivera (El Tigre) family, was chosen in her time to be the next La Tigresa (like Frida, who took Manny's belt without permission) .

I have seen some very beautiful fan arts of her with the El Tigre costume, I really loved them!!

This gave me inspiration to draw her... and maybe for a One Shot... only time will tell.

Book of Life or the secret behind Joaquin’s color palette 

Recently me and my friend @skimpilydressedwithanaxe were talking about how each reincarnation of Maria and Manolo have the same color present in their designs,for example Maria has red clothes in each of her life:

While Manolo has black inclusions either in clothes or hair:

But then we noticed how we can’t say the same about Joaquin:

Out of all Mondragons reincarnations,his outfit stands out like a sore thumb,considering that he doesn’t wear anything dark/purple.

Knowing how important the color palette is in Jorgverse (term made by @phoenixlionme ,not me) we decided to analyze and come with different conclusions as to why Joaquin looks so different from Acat or Zoe.

1.The artists simply forgot

This one is self explanatory:the film crew were too busy with the plot then easter eggs.Some could’ve been unaware of the “reincarnation law” going on.

2.The change was put there to visually indicate the dichotomy with Manolo

During many instances in film Manolo is shown as the black sheep in his family,which is reinforced by the fact that his matador clothes are mostly dark.Meanwhile Mondragon’s bright uniform is another indicator of his status as a beloved hero of San Angel.Knowing the proximity of purple to black, the designers decided to change Joaquim's key color to something lighter.

3.Joaquin will embrace the purple in (hopefully upcoming???) sequel

It was said in one of Jorge Gutierrez tweets(or in Wiki if you’re too lazy to search for it)that the Book of Life 2 will revolve around Joaquin looking for his father in the Land of Unknown.That can also be interpreted as Joaquin digging up his past and rethinking his actions,which may lead to the palette change.

4.A symbol of breaking the cycle

The fans of Jorgverse may have noticed how almost all reincarnations of Joaquin  are given the role of a “jealous third weel” ,trying to ruin or get between two lovebirds in order to have their crush all to themselves.But at the end of the movie,Joaquin comes off this path,deciding that the well being of his friends is more important that his ambition.So the blue in his outfit was given as the hint that he would feel different about Maria and Manolo’s union than his past lives,therefore the color change.

Cameron/Carmen Rivera [M/F] — 24 — The Newcomer

Getting their start on a network aimed towards kids in their early teenage years, C quickly came into their own within the music world— rising to the ranks of super stardom by the time they were 16. Due to this they surrounded themself with the wrong sort of people— the type that only saw their status and not them— and fell into some rough times with partying. Something they weren’t able to break free from until they were 22.

Despite all of this, however, C maintains a positive outlook with their fans, signing CDs and albums with a flourish every time, genuinely enjoying interacting with them, and it’s due to their fan base that they’re finally trying to push back into the acting sphere (the place where it all began)— only this time trying to be part of the movie scene. Will you be able to show them the ropes of a world they’re distantly familiar with? Will they teach you a thing or two along the way?

And will something more grow during it all?

Physical Appearance: They have a slender build. C stands at 5’4” (162.56 cm). A tan complexion allows for the dark brown of their gaze to stand out beautifully. Dark brown locks, with faint highlights of gold, is typically tousled— Cameron keeps his to just over his ears. While Carmen has hers to just beneath her shoulders, bangs falling messily across her forehead.

Other Defining Characteristics: Has a music note tattooed behind their right ear.

Somehow, Carmen hadn't realized she was carrying twins until they were born. They'd been positioned so that one blocked the other from the sonogram; both were small, although not dangerously so; the birth of two babies surprised everyone. It explained her being so much more tired than during her previous pregnancies, though.

"Twins," Berto murmured, dazed. "Twins."

Carmen laughed, slightly hysterically. "The kids'll be thrilled, though."

Her sisters-in-law, Gloria childless, Luisa with a son of nearly ten, both stepped in to help; she was grateful for any and all assistance. Raising two rambunctious little boys simultaneously was quite a handful.

Hello! May I ask if you have any headcanons about Enrique and Luisa Rivera?

I think those should about cover it for Enrique. Well, there is one more: Enrique had a favorite rooster on his paternal grandparents' farm, which he named Panchito, after the Disney character from the Three Caballeros. It disappeared one night, and Enrique's pretty sure coyotes got it. The rooster becomes his alebrije, and in that form, it has characteristics of a duck and a parrot as well.

As for Luisa, I have a few head canons for her. She's younger than Gloria, but closer to her in age than Enrique is to Berto. The girls' mother does not get along with Berto and Enrique's mother. At all. But their father is very popular around the hacienda and is good friends with Franco. According to a tie-in book, Luisa can't carry a tune in a bucket, and I've adopted that idea. But she still enjoys playing the maracas. While Gloria married into the Riveras in part for the shoes, Luisa fell in love with Enrique with no ulterior motives (and she 100% teases her sister about this). She really only met and started getting to know Enrique after Berto and Gloria became engaged. Giving up music was more of a sacrifice for her than it was for Gloria because Luisa associates music with her abuelo, with whom she was very close. Her abuelo was a music teacher (despite her best efforts, she was one of his worst students), and was always a kind and generous man who valued family above all other earthly things. What he never told her, however, was that his love for family was a conscious decision on his part to distinguish himself from his absent biological father, who always denied having offspring (and he had many). His father was Ernesto de la Cruz, and he kept the man's identity a secret for fear his descendants would want to emulate such a selfish, egotistical man who abused women and abandoned family at every opportunity. Miguel does later discover the connection, and Luisa fully understands his struggle with that revelation. She has to come to terms with the idea that her great-grandfather murdered her husband's great-grandfather.
