Coati

Habitat: Tropical rainforest, grasslands, & urban areas

Strengths:

Very agile and adept climbers; can rotate their ankles beyond 180° to climb down trees head first

Prehensile tail used for balance and grasping tree limbs

Highly intelligent, similar to raccoons

Acute sense of smell

Known for being fierce fighters with sharp teeth and claws, strong jaws, and a tough hide

Weaknesses:

Small; adults reach a maximum of 69 cm (27 in) in length, including their tail, and weighing up to 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

Not accustomed to fighting larger predators; mainly hunt invertebrates, lizards, rodents, small birds, as well as eggs and fallen fruit

7/25/2023 Valle Escondido Preserve, Costa Rica

This was the only time we saw a coati while we were in Costa Rica, and it just popped out of nowhere right in front of us, trotted casually across the path, and disappeared into the forest on the other side. We saw it for maybe 10 seconds, and thankfully were able to snap a couple photos before it was gone. Very cool to see one in the wild!

STP Design Dump

Can’t draw humans super well so I’ve been working with some Anthro/feral designs of these guys!

In order, left to right:

Thorn (Chinese Water Deer), Witch (Hazel Dormouse), Spectre (Coati),

Den, Beast, Hunted (Mouse Deer Peryton),

Skeptic (Rat), Opportunist (Weasel), Smitten (European Badger)

Random thing but I was telling my friend at work about this dream I had where I remembered there being this creature in it that I described as being like a ‘badger but with a lemur’s tail’ but it had two noses. Anyway I got home and realized that the animal does in fact exist and I was just decribing a Coati lol. There be some specific ass animals visiting me.

Anyway there was also this black bear that wanted me to listen to his Walkman radio looking device and he was apparently rocking out to a vaguely Peter Gabriel tune as well as sports broadcasting.
