Projecting my period cramps onto Sentinel because he deserves his ego knocked down a peg or two
- 🦋
You so fragging real for this, Butterfly.
I’ve always had NIGHTMARE cramps on my first period day and such heavy bleeding the whole day/night I spend HOURS on and off the toilet when I’m too uncomfortable to lay down and try to nap, which fortunately I’m able to do most of the time when my cramps are THE worst and sleep through most of that. No prescription or OTC pain meds have ever helped for more than six months bc my body is just such a fucking powerhouse it’s like “Oh, what’s this? A new drug for me to build up a massive tolerance to? Don’t mind if I do!” Heating pads don’t work, hydrating doesn’t do anything for the pain (just makes sure I don’t bleed out and freaking die I guess), and eating things like 72-90% cacao dark chocolate that are supposed to help don’t work either. And I refuse to take drugs like birth control for it cuz that shit fucks your body up so bad over time and I am tryna have offspring lol 🙃 So literally my only option is to either sleep through the worst or just suffer
So yeah, there is definitely a part of me that’s like, Yeah, if I could bestow this female experience upon an evil individual, I would” and Sentinel is certainly one of those I would bestow my agony and discomfort upon 🥰
Anyway, I do wanna say that there is ONE thing that has helped reduce my cramping to a moderate level rather than severe for most of my periods and that is CARIONA! Info below :)
They make pads out of plant fibers that come in all sizes, come with a waterproof travel/storage bag, have no fragrances, chemicals, or unnatural dyes, are super comfy, and have never leaked in my experience even during my heaviest flow (and I’m a side sleeper!). And the best part is, you can just throw ‘em all into the washing machine when you’re done bleeding and wash on delicate, warm water, and light detergent, then air dry them! I always used U by Kotex pads before I bought a variety pack from Cariona and in the year I’ve had them so far the change in my pain has been VERY noticeable. Less pain (still bad but much more manageable), more comfortable, not wasting money and plastics buying $15-30 boxes of disposable pads every month. Cariona’s pads will last 2-3 years depending on use and the variety pack I got was only about $100! This shit’s so good, PLEASE try them out if you get a chance to! They’ve made me and so many other women feel so much better during periods. NOT SPONSORED!

[IDs: Several photos of Cariona reusable menstrual pads, which are black on one side and patterned on the other. /End IDs.]
Oh hey, this is the post that tricked me into funding missionary work!
Y'all should know that this company will try to preach Christianity to you if you order from them and gives a portion of its gross monthly sales to missionaries.
Tumblr media
[ID: A card with Cariona's logo on it that says, "Thank you for supporting our small business. Use code water for a free regular pad on your next order over thirty dollars. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee; my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is. Psalm 63:1." /End ID.]
Tumblr media
[ID: The back of the same card which has two QR codes on it, one labeled "Scan For Our Paperless User Guide" and the other labeled "Scan For God's Message To You." /End ID.]
Tumblr media
[ID: A digital About Us page that says, "What Does Cariona Believe? At Cariona, we believe there is a better way to live. A more sustainable, less invasive way, where every choice made is one with the Earth in mind. We're obsessively passionate about it and our mission is to be everyone's go-to for thrifty, innovative and eco-friendly products. The Principles of Plenty (Prov. 3:9-10). Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine... While we do not wish to impose any beliefs on our customers, we at Cariona believe in the "Great Commission" to preach the gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:19-20). We established our store by faith so we give back to God by committing 10% of our monthly gross sales to support carefully vetted churches and missionaries worldwide. To God be the Glory!" /End ID.]
IDK how nobody else in this thread has brought this up. The only place on Cariona's website where any of this is mentioned is at the bottom of their About Us page. It is completely hidden from customers throughout the standard purchasing process and then sprung on you when your order arrives.
They only issue refunds if you can prove that your order arrived incorrect or defective, meaning that you cannot get your money back out of missionary pockets if you learn that that's where your funds went after the fact and are unhappy about it like I was.
Also, a lesser concern but still worth mentioning: They claim that these pads are machine washable. Not once have I run these things through a machine and had them come out looking any cleaner than they did going in. I always have to handwash them. Which is a pretty uncool surprise when you have chronic hand pain.
There are other reusable menstrual pad companies out there that you can buy from instead of this one. Go give your money to a marginally less shady company.
i learned that each woman spends approximately $5,600 on her period over her lifetime (x)

I Love ThriftBooks!
This is going to sound like one of those thinly veiled Cariona or RayBans ads, but I guarantee this content is 100% not sponsored. I found this website through a screenshot of an old tumblr post on Pinterest before I even joined tumblr, so I thought I should put it back on here.
ThriftBooks is exactly what it sounds like: an online way to shop secondhand books at a discounted price. It's like Half Price Books, but with free shipping on orders $15+ and a rewards system that gives you free books. At the lowest tier, you get a free $6 book for every $60 you spend.
(But Will, spending $60 on books is easier than finding a book that only costs $6. That doesn't sound like a deal to me.)
It is on ThriftBooks! Prices get as low as $3, and not just on out-of-date kiddy books. I had a list of THIRTY-SIX books of required reading this semester (English major!!!), and I came out with only spending $200 total. I got FOUR free books through multiple orders. At market value, the full stack would have cost me around $650 through my campus bookstore. SIX HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS. For a stack of books I might not even read. That's a whole month of rent and utilities I saved.
Please please pLEASE go shop on ThriftBooks! I've bought all my textbooks through college on there, even before I changed to an English degree. They have everything!* Here's a promo link for my friends if you want a free book at only $30:
*(Disclaimer: ThriftBooks does rely on readers to send in their books once done with them, and though they have some new books, their stock is liable to fluctuate. STEM majors may be SOL when it comes to finding a specific edition of a textbook that came out last year.)

very helpful!
I'm making a list of the MANY clickbait accounts you've been advertising with so I can block them all.
@catchymemes, @sulfatto, @isnt @everythingfox
Hello! I'm Julie from Cariona and I just want to ask if you're interested in doing ads/promotions here on Tumblr? If yes, how much do you charge per reblog?
For proof of legitimate promotions, you can check @catchymemes, @sulfatto, @isnt, and many others.
Website for reference: http://cariona.comOver 200 five star Facebook reviews: https://www.facebook.com/carionaproducts/reviews
Please feel free to respond here or reach out to us on [email protected] for more details! Thank you once again and have a great week!
absolutely fascinating that you decided to send this as an ask, when you also DM’d me. unfortunately, you may realize that this was a mistake - you see, asks can be responded to publicly.
so, allow me to respond:
hi, Julie! I’d never heard about Cariona before, so I decided to go poking around, and I learned something!
well, I learned a few things, actually. from your site, Cariona seems to be a small business that sells reusable menstrual products. and while I will never advertise a product that I haven’t used, there’s nothing wrong with wanting people to promote your company.
I have, however, found a few problems.
the first thing I found was this post by @crafiet from May 12th of last year, saying that shortly after making a purchase on your website, her debit card info was leaked, and used to make facebook ad purchases.
it seems that at least back then, your payment system was insecure. I’m really hoping you’ve fixed that, because. yikes.
and when I messaged crafiet to ask if it was okay if I linked to her post, she also mentioned that even though your website says you ship from Georgia, her package came shipped from China, and took a long time to arrive.
that’s pretty sketchy.
the next thing I found was some folks talking about receiving cards with their orders that have a QR code on them with the words “Scan For God’s Message To You”, and that on the other side, have this bible verse:
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.Psalm 63:1
fun fact! that’s from the King James Version (which I have a lot of thoughts about, but I’m not going to get into that right now).
additional fun fact! that particular psalm is from that time David fled to the wilderness because Jonathan’s dad was trying to kill him.
and that’s why I have to talk about the verses that follow it:
Tumblr media
ALT
(ID in alt text; link to the NIV version if you want it)
so…are we like 100% sure it’s god that David is thinking about here? because…I mean…that’s pretty horny, right? and all of this while on the run from his boyfriend’s dad?
I’m not saying anything, but like…¯\_(ツ)_/¯
it’s a weird verse to choose for this, that’s all.
anyway, back to you, Cariona: after seeing people talking about the bible verse cards, I decided to poke around your website more, and allll the way at the bottom of it, finally found your “About Us” page, which ends with this:
Tumblr media
ALT
…look. there’s nothing inherently wrong with being christian. but to say “we do not wish to impose any beliefs on our customers”, and to then put bible verse cards in people’s orders? that’s sneaky, and I don’t like it.
I also think it’s a bit sneaky that you’ve flagged your tumblr account as pro-trans on shinigami eyes. at least, I assume you flagged it yourselves, because I didn’t find a single post on your blog that mentions trans issues.
(though you have, entertainingly, reblogged some stranger things fanart, and a castiel cat cosplay)
and while your website uses very gender-neutral language, your “About Us” page doesn’t say anything about being inclusive of trans people, just that you don’t “discriminate against anyone who has a different belief than ours.”
unfortunately, that’s not good enough for me. I have this sneaking suspicion that “trans people are the gender they say they are” counts as a “different belief”.
lastly, since you say on your website that people can message you asking about your faith, I had a friend do that!
baptists. you’re baptists, which is a pretty conservative denomination.
and according to you, part of that 10% you donate goes to your local churches, and some missionaries. who are also probably baptists.
so.
in the end, I just…don’t trust you? I don’t trust that the 10% you’re donating is going to organizations that aren’t homophobic or transphobic. I don’t believe that you’re not trying to impose your beliefs on others, because that’s what you’re obviously doing. I mean, your “About Me” says that one of the reasons you built this company is to spread the gospel.
and I especially don’t like it that you reached out to me (an openly queer person) for promotion without mentioning that you’re an evangelical company.
so to answer your question, Julie: no. I am not interested in doing ads or promotions for you on tumblr. and honestly, you probably picked the wrong website for this kind of thing.

Eyy, guess who found a local vender of good quality reusable pads and got 30 of them (and two pouches) for less than $10?
I think they might be from the same manufacturer as Cariona, too, the only difference between my new ones and the ones I got from Cariona before is a lack of branded tag.

oh, no thank you baptist bleeding pad company! I'm not keen on the 10% of profits that you donate to evangelical churches and missionaries, or on the bible verses that you include in people's packaging, or on the weird period misinformation that you pay people to promote, or on how those posts are disguised as informational rather than advertisements.
I will, however, use this opportunity to promote my own stuff! my Lucifer Morningstar fallen angel charms arrived today, and can be attained at greerstothers.shop:

Okay super shady that Cariona sends you a card with a Bible verse on it and some sort of evangelizing QR code when their website doesn't give any at a glance indication that they're doing anything except selling reusable menstrual pads

I AM BACK FRIENDS I HAVE ACQUIRED AND USED THE CARIONAS
They’re good. I like ‘em. The Medium is already bigger than the biggest sets I used to be able to get, the Pantyliners are about the same sets as the smallest.
I’m not as heavy a bleeder as I once was, but back then I never needed more than one of my big pads in a day and I did used to be Gushing Waterfall for 3 days straight
The blood is more visible than I thought it would be on the grey, which is nice, and I do feel like they’re getting properly clean in the washing machine. Haven’t tried hand washing them yet, and hopefully I’ll never have to
They’re not going to replace my old pads immediately, but I’m less worried that they’re going to fray to unuseability and not have a backup - the Carionas work, come in an actually useful size of pack, and actually have at least two larger sizes of pad for anyone who feels the need
Note: I’d say the Mediums are also the same size as the XL Always disposables, but it’s been a while since I checked. Grab a ruler and a tape measure before you order, I promise they are bigger than you think
i learned that in August 2014 Women’s Voices for the Earth commissioned testing of four types of Always menstrual pads, manufactured by Procter & Gamble. The certified laboratory STAT Analysis Corporation analyzed the products for volatile organic compound.
Tumblr media
“The results of the testing indicate that both scented and unscented Always pads emit toxic chemicals, including chemicals identified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Toxicology Program, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, and the State of California Environmental Protection Agency as carcinogens, and reproductive and developmental toxins. None of these chemicals are disclosed on the product by the manufacturer.” (x)
