Projecting my period cramps onto Sentinel because he deserves his ego knocked down a peg or two
- 🦋
You so fragging real for this, Butterfly.
I’ve always had NIGHTMARE cramps on my first period day and such heavy bleeding the whole day/night I spend HOURS on and off the toilet when I’m too uncomfortable to lay down and try to nap, which fortunately I’m able to do most of the time when my cramps are THE worst and sleep through most of that. No prescription or OTC pain meds have ever helped for more than six months bc my body is just such a fucking powerhouse it’s like “Oh, what’s this? A new drug for me to build up a massive tolerance to? Don’t mind if I do!” Heating pads don’t work, hydrating doesn’t do anything for the pain (just makes sure I don’t bleed out and freaking die I guess), and eating things like 72-90% cacao dark chocolate that are supposed to help don’t work either. And I refuse to take drugs like birth control for it cuz that shit fucks your body up so bad over time and I am tryna have offspring lol 🙃 So literally my only option is to either sleep through the worst or just suffer
So yeah, there is definitely a part of me that’s like, “Yeah, if I could bestow this female experience upon an evil individual, I would” and Sentinel is certainly one of those I would bestow my agony and discomfort upon 🥰
Anyway, I do wanna say that there is ONE thing that has helped reduce my cramping to a moderate level rather than severe for most of my periods and that is CARIONA! Info below :)
They make pads out of plant fibers that come in all sizes, come with a waterproof travel/storage bag, have no fragrances, chemicals, or unnatural dyes, are super comfy, and have never leaked in my experience even during my heaviest flow (and I’m a side sleeper!). And the best part is, you can just throw ‘em all into the washing machine when you’re done bleeding and wash on delicate, warm water, and light detergent, then air dry them! I always used U by Kotex pads before I bought a variety pack from Cariona and in the year I’ve had them so far the change in my pain has been VERY noticeable. Less pain (still bad but much more manageable), more comfortable, not wasting money and plastics buying $15-30 boxes of disposable pads every month. Cariona’s pads will last 2-3 years depending on use and the variety pack I got was only about $100! This shit’s so good, PLEASE try them out if you get a chance to! They’ve made me and so many other women feel so much better during periods. NOT SPONSORED!

Oh hey, this is the post that tricked me into funding missionary work!
Y'all should know that this company will try to preach Christianity to you if you order from them and gives a portion of its gross monthly sales to missionaries.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fdc995c787b17ec53dea19138cf260eb/b4634944031284c6-0a/s540x810/c0f1e1925c9dbed48b964e4d305e4c723ae337bd.jpg)
[ID: A card with Cariona's logo on it that says, "Thank you for supporting our small business. Use code water for a free regular pad on your next order over thirty dollars. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee; my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is. Psalm 63:1." /End ID.]
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0679900e72b109a25cf7aed6e4748074/b4634944031284c6-20/s540x810/b916abe5949b2e0bf520a45d15aec61b076a916e.jpg)
[ID: The back of the same card which has two QR codes on it, one labeled "Scan For Our Paperless User Guide" and the other labeled "Scan For God's Message To You." /End ID.]
[ID: A digital About Us page that says, "What Does Cariona Believe? At Cariona, we believe there is a better way to live. A more sustainable, less invasive way, where every choice made is one with the Earth in mind. We're obsessively passionate about it and our mission is to be everyone's go-to for thrifty, innovative and eco-friendly products. The Principles of Plenty (Prov. 3:9-10). Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine... While we do not wish to impose any beliefs on our customers, we at Cariona believe in the "Great Commission" to preach the gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:19-20). We established our store by faith so we give back to God by committing 10% of our monthly gross sales to support carefully vetted churches and missionaries worldwide. To God be the Glory!" /End ID.]
IDK how nobody else in this thread has brought this up. The only place on Cariona's website where any of this is mentioned is at the bottom of their About Us page. It is completely hidden from customers throughout the standard purchasing process and then sprung on you when your order arrives.
They only issue refunds if you can prove that your order arrived incorrect or defective, meaning that you cannot get your money back out of missionary pockets if you learn that that's where your funds went after the fact and are unhappy about it like I was.
Also, a lesser concern but still worth mentioning: They claim that these pads are machine washable. Not once have I run these things through a machine and had them come out looking any cleaner than they did going in. I always have to handwash them. Which is a pretty uncool surprise when you have chronic hand pain.
There are other reusable menstrual pad companies out there that you can buy from instead of this one. Go give your money to a marginally less shady company.
i learned that each woman spends approximately $5,600 on her period over her lifetime (x)

I Love ThriftBooks!
This is going to sound like one of those thinly veiled Cariona or RayBans ads, but I guarantee this content is 100% not sponsored. I found this website through a screenshot of an old tumblr post on Pinterest before I even joined tumblr, so I thought I should put it back on here.
ThriftBooks is exactly what it sounds like: an online way to shop secondhand books at a discounted price. It's like Half Price Books, but with free shipping on orders $15+ and a rewards system that gives you free books. At the lowest tier, you get a free $6 book for every $60 you spend.
(But Will, spending $60 on books is easier than finding a book that only costs $6. That doesn't sound like a deal to me.)
It is on ThriftBooks! Prices get as low as $3, and not just on out-of-date kiddy books. I had a list of THIRTY-SIX books of required reading this semester (English major!!!), and I came out with only spending $200 total. I got FOUR free books through multiple orders. At market value, the full stack would have cost me around $650 through my campus bookstore. SIX HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS. For a stack of books I might not even read. That's a whole month of rent and utilities I saved.
Please please pLEASE go shop on ThriftBooks! I've bought all my textbooks through college on there, even before I changed to an English degree. They have everything!* Here's a promo link for my friends if you want a free book at only $30:
*(Disclaimer: ThriftBooks does rely on readers to send in their books once done with them, and though they have some new books, their stock is liable to fluctuate. STEM majors may be SOL when it comes to finding a specific edition of a textbook that came out last year.)

Eyy, guess who found a local vender of good quality reusable pads and got 30 of them (and two pouches) for less than $10?
I think they might be from the same manufacturer as Cariona, too, the only difference between my new ones and the ones I got from Cariona before is a lack of branded tag.

I AM BACK FRIENDS I HAVE ACQUIRED AND USED THE CARIONAS
They’re good. I like ‘em. The Medium is already bigger than the biggest sets I used to be able to get, the Pantyliners are about the same sets as the smallest.
I’m not as heavy a bleeder as I once was, but back then I never needed more than one of my big pads in a day and I did used to be Gushing Waterfall for 3 days straight
The blood is more visible than I thought it would be on the grey, which is nice, and I do feel like they’re getting properly clean in the washing machine. Haven’t tried hand washing them yet, and hopefully I’ll never have to
They’re not going to replace my old pads immediately, but I’m less worried that they’re going to fray to unuseability and not have a backup - the Carionas work, come in an actually useful size of pack, and actually have at least two larger sizes of pad for anyone who feels the need
Note: I’d say the Mediums are also the same size as the XL Always disposables, but it’s been a while since I checked. Grab a ruler and a tape measure before you order, I promise they are bigger than you think
i learned that in August 2014 Women’s Voices for the Earth commissioned testing of four types of Always menstrual pads, manufactured by Procter & Gamble. The certified laboratory STAT Analysis Corporation analyzed the products for volatile organic compound.
“The results of the testing indicate that both scented and unscented Always pads emit toxic chemicals, including chemicals identified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Toxicology Program, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, and the State of California Environmental Protection Agency as carcinogens, and reproductive and developmental toxins. None of these chemicals are disclosed on the product by the manufacturer.” (x)

Okay super shady that Cariona sends you a card with a Bible verse on it and some sort of evangelizing QR code when their website doesn't give any at a glance indication that they're doing anything except selling reusable menstrual pads

Oh, since you just mentioned reusable pads, question! I’ve been wanting to make the switch, but do they need to be washed separate from other clothing? Because of microbes, etc? Either way, do you have a routine that works well for washing them that avoids both doing laundry every day and having a bunch of bloody cloth laying around?
when I first switched over I read some advice that talked about soaking them in a jar that seemed impractically laborious, and then I realized that I wash my underwear/pants with menstrual bloodstains (and clothes with nosebleed bloodstains, which I have pretty often) with the rest of my laundry and that it seemed sort of silly not to do the same with reusable pads. I've been doing that for like a year and a half with absolutely zero problems; turns out fabric is fabric and it all washes the same. I dab off the worst of the blood with a little toilet paper before I switch pads so that I'm not throwing a heap of raw uterine lining into my laundry basket, but other than that it literally does not matter.
the routine I use to avoid doing laundry every day is just having more than one reusable pads; the five-pack starter kit from Cariona has been serving me very well since I bought it.

ALL of my menstrual issues significantly lessened once I went full-time on washables/reusables. I use silicone cups and washable underwear/pads and I've never looked back. My cramps and flow are significantly eased. No more disgusting trash, no more foliculitus, no more spending money on new supplies. I HIGHLY recommend to all people who menatruate to make the switch, I really don't have any downsides to switching. I use Saalt brand cups, the teen and soft cup are good for beginners. I use cariona pads.
i'm curious how many people also don't experience cramps as their main symptom, because back pain is the worst for me by far it's usually how i can tell my period is coming up too
