idea by me Caregivers- David , Paul , and Dwayne Flip- Marko Little- Michael their little ages- Marko is 4-5 while Michael is around 3-5 Yes the four vampires are still vampires while Michael is human Michael is 5'6 in this because I said so. Marko is a flip which is between being a Caregiver and Little , Incase some people don't know what a flip is in littlespace. if there's a different word for being both a little and caregiver don't be afraid to to tell me so! )
" Milk , grapes , crackers, chicken star shaped nuggets, yogurt, gold fish crackers, more beach Towels?"
David stopped reading off of the grocery list , only to turn his head to Marko and question the curly haired blonde. Just as the bleach blonde continues to push the cart down the pasta/sauces/spices aisle. Their little human Michael was on Dwayne's hip pointing at all the different pastas. While Paul was trying to convince the taller man that the angel hair pasta is the best. Michael was in his own little world not really listening to what was being said. Marko just gives David a playful smile and gets in front of the cart , stopping the other's pushing of said cart all together. Which makes David huff in annoyance at the other hyperactive blonde.
"We need more towels because we need them for the beach obviously. And your supposed to be the smart one"
" Mar watch your mouth. And we already have beach towels at him. I made the list for food not towels or any other objects"
" Yeah I know , However we need the towels so we can make a huge square on the sand. See it's smart so the carbs can't get us! "
David swears he's getting a headache by now even Dwayne rolls his eyes hearing the two talking about stupid towels. He hicks their little human up on his hip more holding him close. And just shakes his head at them , especially when they all know Marko is going to end up , getting said things at the end of their shopping trip . Paul who can of course hear them to , the second blonde looks over at them and just flat out laughs , honestly he's already getting the feeling that Marko is little right. The laugher slightly startles Michael a tiny bit snapping him out of his thoughts. Said laughing vampire just ruffles his hair as a sorry and walks over to David's side and shakes his head with a smile on his face.
"Now davey just let him get the towels , he's just going to annoy you more if you don't. Especially when you are really easy to annoy."
The bleached blonde just rolls his eyes and puts a few boxes of Kraft Mac & cheese in the cart and huffs out of annoyance. And walks further down more growling low at Paul , which makes the other laugh again. They all know David wouldn't hurt any of them , just like they wouldn't hurt each other. But yeah the wannabe "spike" was definitely getting a headache now, David turned his head to Marko who was walking along side him , next to the cart. Yeah he doesn't feel like being annoyed way more than usual during this whole shopping trip of theirs. Said switch grins like he's won a new prize at one of the dart games they have on the boardwalk at night sometimes. Now Marko being Marko keeps his grim up knowing full well that the other male has given up.
"So?"
"Yes idiot you can get them. Just don't get the whole damn shelf! "
And just like that Marko sprits down the aisle into , different ones looking for those stupid towels he so "definitely" needed to have. Yeah Paul is definitely the one who can go rangel him because David is so done with him and this shopping trip. Dwayne comes over setting down few cups of teriyaki noodle cups in the cart. Along with a few cans of star noodles Campbell's chicken soup because both Marko and Michael like it. And the angel hair pasta that Paul had originally wanted and bragged about oh don't think David didn't see that smug. Look on Dwayne's stupid face from watching Marko's little win. After a couple minutes Paul goes after thier second little to make sure he isn't causing any trouble or anything like that , Dwayne hums before he speaks once more.
" And yet you've known him longer than any of us have, you'd think you would have been unfazed with him always trying to anny you , amor. "
"Oh please shut it tall ass"
"You wouldn't like it if I did , you'd miss my talking more than you like hearing the other two speak. "
"Well Dwayne , if he's trying to annoy me out of all of us. I believe Mar is four if he thinks the crabs won't get him , if there's a towel laying there."
"Pff oh love you know he's going to get frustrated with the crabs, we all kno-"
"Crabbies! "
David looks at their human and can't help but smile, see this is why Dwayne had him for for today, he was told that Michael can have a few options before they started their shopping. One let of his daddies either carry him or hold his hand. Two sit in the cart as they walk around. Of course Mickey immediately made grabby hands at his bubby. Said Bubby just kisses his head with amusement written all over his face.
" yes moondust we'll be seeing lots of crabs next week, seeing how much your brother is obsessed with them not getting him"
" Come on let's go find our idiots David. "
Once the group was back together, towels in the cart and the rest of the shopping list items also in said cart. And of course Marko and Michael got one new stuffie each from Paul. Getting an eye roll from David and a dramatic laugh from Dwayne of course , said man helped the other put everything away in the car as Paul got the other two in the car. Instead of heading back to the cave they used to live in. Dwayne drives back to Max's old house, they basically took it as thier own when that jackass died. And Michael's mom , brother and grandpa had actually moved to Brooklyn New York for a fresh start. Lucy had of course had a conversation with vampires before they had left. Mostly aout keeping her son safe already knowing that her oldest belonged here with his boyfriends, of course they still keep in touch with each other.
After the car is parked in the driveway and said car is turned off. Both males in the front seats turn their heads to the back , now seeing Paul gently unbuckle Micheal and carry him out. Not before nodding his head to the other sleeping little in the car.
" One of ya gonna get Mar? Ya know he likes nappin with moondust here"
" Yeah , yeah I've got him"
David tells him as he gets out and opens the door to Marko's side , and just as Paul did carefully getting their little menace out. Following the other Caregiver inside the house, they both take the boy's shoes and jackets off before laying the two in bed with the new stuffies. Once both men make sure the babies are content in dreamland , both blondes head back outside to help their tall boyfriend with the groceries that are in the trunk.

Your guide to California policy and politics

Good morning, California.
Millions of Californians at risk of losing Medi-Cal coverage
Tumblr media

Last week the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives advanced a budget package gutting Medicaid spending by $700 billion in order to help offset the cost of extending President Donald Trump’s 2017 tax cuts that mostly benefit the wealthy.
In addition to California potentially losing as much as $20 billion a year and 217,000 jobs because of this, millions of low-income Californians on Medi-Cal — the state’s version of Medicaid — could lose coverage due to the bill’s proposed proof-of-work-hours requirement.
As CalMatters’ Ana B. Ibarra explains, about 15 million Californians are on Medi-Cal, and roughly 29% of Medi-Cal recipients can’t work because of caregiving responsibilities, school, a disability or other exemption. The bill would require certain adults to report work hours, which could lead to, by some estimates, between 1.2 million and 3.5 million Californians losing coverage.
In an interview with ABC’s Bakersfield affiliate, GOP Rep. David Valadao, who represents parts of San Joaquin Valley, said the average person “who is working really hard” thinks the work requirements are “the right thing to do.”
Valadao: “For those who are able-bodied with no dependents and you choose not to try to make that effort to go get a job … yeah you're probably going to be affected by this.”
But health policy researchers and advocates point to New Hampshire and Arkansas — two states that once imposed work requirements. Instead of increasing employment, the mandates left thousands of eligible people without health insurance within months. Both states have since eliminated the policies.
Katherine Hempstead, a senior policy officer at Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a nonprofit health advocacy organization: “The program saves money through mistakes. And that's not a good way to run social insurance or to run policy.”
All 43 California Democrats opposed the bill, while all nine GOP members — who represent a total of 2.5 million Medi-Cal enrollees — voted for it. The bill is now before the Senate and as currently drafted, work requirements would begin Dec. 31, 2026.

Status update on Trump’s tariffs: It’s complicated
Tumblr media

From CalMatters economy reporter Levi Sumagaysay:
A federal trade court ruled the sweeping tariffs unlawful Wednesday, but that ruling was paused Thursday pending the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit’s consideration of the Trump administration’s appeal. A federal district court judge in Washington, D.C., also issued a similar ruling Thursday in a lawsuit brought by two small businesses.
Kush Desai, White House spokesperson, in an email: “It is not for unelected judges to decide how to properly address a national emergency.”
The administration has said trade deficits constitute an emergency and invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to justify its tariffs.
The tariffs have had a big effect on California port activity, and remain in effect until the appeals court makes a decision on the lawsuit. Twelve states led by Oregon and five businesses brought on the lawsuit, which is similar to a separate lawsuit filed by California. It’s unclear how quickly the appeals court will act.
Brian Peck, international business law expert at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law: “I would hope (the appeals court is) not deaf, blind and dumb to what’s going on with businesses.”
Peck also suspects the case will end up at the U.S. Supreme Court.
For businesses, the legal wrangling means continued unpredictability, said Darlene Chiu-Bryant, executive director of GlobalSF, a San Francisco nonprofit that helps facilitate trade, especially with Asia.
Trump continues assault on DEI, education

On Tuesday Trump posted on social media that he would withhold “large scale” federal funding from California for allowing high school transgender athletes to participate in women’s sports. But that’s not the only federal action Trump is threatening against California LGBTQ+ students, writes CalMatters’ Adam Echelman.
To reduce federal spending, the president has proposed cutting more than $10 billion from the U.S. Department of Education, and threatened to pull funding from any school across the U.S. that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
Under this directive, Trump only called out one program by name: San Diego Community College District’s LGBTQ+ pride centers. In 2023 the district’s four community colleges received over $225,000 in federal grants to support spaces and programs for LGBTQ+ students. But the money supports “initiatives unrelated to students or institutional reforms,” according to Trump’s budget proposal.
To avoid possible clawbacks, the district’s chancellor said the centers are planning to spend down the federal money “as quickly as we can.” Meanwhile, Democratic Rep. Sara Jacobs, who represents parts of San Diego and requested the grants, said Trump is “attacking the ideals that higher education is founded on, like free speech.”
Jacobs: “LGBTQ+ kids and especially trans kids are Republicans’ favorite scapegoat.”

Clockwork Headcanons
PT.01
Natalie Ouellettes past, upbringing, pre-murder headcanons.
CW: mentions of sexual abuse (I go into light detail about the abuse and the abusers mindset), domestic violence, gore, trauma, human experimentation
<NOTE> Same thing as the Ticci Toby headcanons, its a bit of a rewrite and I tried to keep the story realistic. Its not proofread so ignore typos and grammatical errors. Also again as a major warning, I went into some detail about Clockworks sexual trauma with her brother as I feel it does play a major part to her character and the reason why she developed the way she did. I have trigger warnings on the parts so you can skip it. Its very long because I have a lot of thoughts about her character. Enjoy 🔥
BIOGRAPHY .
PATIENT NAME: Natalie Ouellette
BIRTHDATE: November 6th, 1996
AGE: Currently 18 years old
HC/EC: Brown hair, green eyes
ETHNICITY: White Canadian
BIRTHPLACE: Windsor, Ontario
FAMILY: Mary-Beth Ouellette (mother), David Ouellette (father), Lucas Ouellette (brother)
DIAGNOSIS: Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, suspected/untreated Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD)
PIGTAILS .
Natalie grew up in a small trailer park. Her family was dirt broke, her father would blow all their money on booze and gambling
The financial situation in her household contributed significantly to her parents stress and fighting. Rarely was there ever a moment of peace
She would often make careless mistakes as any young child would like wetting the bed, drawing on walls, accidentally breaking things
And every time she made a mistake, she wasn’t simply taught how to do better, she was berated and ruthlessly beat by her father
Her childhood was unstable, to say the least. Natalies parents were more like enemies than they were caregivers.
She spent her peak developmental years being severely neglected and made to feel small and powerless.
At home she would spend her time alone in her room to hide away from the fighting between her parents or the random rants her drunken father would go on
She would get into the habit of running away just to spend some quiet time at the park by her house, anything to escape the chaos of her everyday life
At such a young age she didn’t know why she was so angry at the world. And at such a young age she would act out for attention and struggle with morals, empathy and societal norms as a result of never being taught any better
Her and her brother were severely emotionally neglected and grew up very poor, barely having food to eat or clean clothes to wear. This resulted to her being ostracized from her peers early on
DADDYS GIRL .
David Ouellette was a lazy, drunk, mean old man. He spent his life as a bully and would pick on anyone who challenged his authority, even his own children
He wasn’t afraid to use fear and violence to make his family obey. The man didn’t care who he hurt as long as he got his way
And this man regretted having children every single day of his life. He viewed them as burdens, a curse, and something he wasted his life on.
This included Natalie, who developed oppositional behavioural issues early on in defiance to her fathers abuse
Natalie had a mouth on her. She would talk back, make sarcastic or snarky remarks, boss other kids around. She would fight tooth and nail against her father for a sliver of power in her otherwise powerless life
And David hated being talked down to by a cocky brat like her. So over the years David would repeatedly beat his daughter into shape by grabbing her, hitting her with objects, slapping her, pushing and any other means to his ends of regaining control
Despite this strained relationship where the two would constantly fight for power, Natalie was a daddys girl. They developed a strange, twisted understanding in each other
David worked as a local trucker, but he ran a side hustle of repairing clocks. The man was a piece of shit and honestly a bit dumb when it came to booksmarts but he was good with his hands and a tinkerer
Her father was a classic trailer trash hick. He loved and owned guns, and would sometimes take his children out hunting. The only praise and a semblance of affection Natalie would receive from her father was when she was taking the life of another living being
MOMMY ISSUES .
Natalies mother was an unstable woman. She was very passive-aggressive and unpredictable in her parenting going from caring to cold in an instant
She was very controlling over her children, often resorting to berating and insulting Natalie to get her to act how she wanted
Mary-Beth spent her life chasing the teenage dream she never got when she was younger, and tried to project through her daughter
When she was a young child, Natalie learned quickly that her mother didn’t care about anybody but herself. Mary-Beth was a bitter woman, always playing the victim, and would die before ever admitting she was wrong
Even though her relationship with her father was bad, the girls relationship with her mother was worse. Davids abuse was in response to his children acting out of line, meanwhile her mother was unnecessarily critical, argumentative, and emotional
On multiple occasions her mother would leave the house in a dramatic fit as if she desired to be chased after. The woman would act out like a child and expect everyone to cater to her
And Natalie was never good enough for Mary-Beth. She wasn’t polite enough, smart enough, skinny enough. There was absolutely no pleasing her mother.
BLOOD BROTHER . (TW SEXUAL ABUSE MENTS)
The only person Natalie relied on in her life was her brother, Lucas. He was 4 and a half years older than her but it was that sort of quiet understanding between two children in such a hostile household
Despite their arguments and lack of true bond, the young girl felt safe with her older brother and always tried to impress him. All she wanted was the approval of some dominant figure in her life, and she certainly wasn’t getting it from her parents
Lucas was a strange boy. He was the anxious type who harboured a lot of internalized anger, especially towards his mother.
He was an outcast at school and similarly to his sister, he felt powerless in his life. The boy picked up on his mothers passive-aggressive traits and his fathers entitlement
As he grew and developed, so did his hunger for control and power. He wanted to degrade, assault, and dominate something in his life to make up for the lack of confidence
When Natalie was 9 years old, Lucas would begin to sexually abuse her.
The one person in her life that understood and felt the same pain she did turned on her. She was scared, ashamed, confused.
Repeatedly Lucas would approach his sister and assault her in various ways with little to no regard of the consequences or moral implications. He was desperate and even though it hurt her, it felt good to him.
BETRAYAL . (TW SEXUAL ABUSE MENTS)
Natalie was too young to even know what was happening to her, all she knew was that it felt bad and she felt violated. She knew something was wrong.
Soon enough, the girl felt she had no choice but to confide in her peers. One day at recess she approached a girl named Mia and her friends, a group of girls Natalie wasn’t really friends with but was acquainted enough to talk to
And from there she told them everything as best as she could, even if she got choked up and didn’t make much sense. The girl barely even made sense of it herself.
It felt lighter to get it off her chest, maybe if she could gain the courage to tell her parents the abuse would stop. Maybe everything was going to work out.
But the next day Natalie woke up to messages on sites like Facebook and MySpace. Degrading comments about her being an incest freak, a whore, gross, disgusting, weird, used. Who does that with their brother?
The bullying and degradation from her peers who now saw her as a disgusting weirdo would follow her up until high school
And for four years she would come home from school and be abused in the worst, most violating way by her own kin. And for four years she kept everything inside of her. She just kept quiet and didn’t dare to tell a soul ever again.
Eventually, she gained the courage to tell Lucas no, and firmly reject his advances. After that she was finally free, as much as a girl drowning in her own household could be.
DEAD GIRL .
In high school, Natalie did well for herself. Her grades were good, she calmed down a ton, and she didn’t bother making close friends but she got herself a boyfriend named Chris
Chris was a nice boy, but he came from a good, well-off family. He wasn’t the type to even begin to understand the things Natalie thought or had been through.
Throughout the years, Natalie had grown fond of things of the morbid nature. She would find herself drawing gorey images depicting murder, weapons, decomposing corpses, and other unsettling themes
This wouldn’t have been as bad if it wasn’t tied to the girl who was drawing it. Most people saw Natalie as a weird, disturbed girl and it was rather uncomfortable to watch a girl like her draw all these macabre things
On the outside she was quiet and asocial with a bit of an attitude. She was snarky and rough around the edges, but all she wanted for herself was to get a proper education and have a good life for herself. All she wanted was the kind of family Chris had
Deeper inside of her, Natalie was a very angry girl who hated the world. She hated her family, her life, she resented people who had it better than her.
There was so much bubbling inside that she just pushed down. She was never going to let herself crumble. She was never going to be weak.
This reflected negatively on her life which led to the girl growing into her behavioural issues. Natalie would talk back to authority figures in her life and god forbid anyone try to tell her what to do. She was rebellious to a fault
Her sleep schedule was barely existent as she would find herself staying up until the sunrise to finish assignments, scroll through the internet, or binge watch horror movies regularly
And this lack of sleep only contributed to her horrible attitude. The girl would get into fights at home, storm out, get into fights with her peers or her boyfriend, and go back home to start all over again
TIME .
Natalie had a strange relationship with the concept of time. It always seemed to be against her.
A part of her feared how little time she felt she had. It was like a race against the inevitable, it was going to catch up to her eventually. She couldn’t outrun time itself
It wasn’t long until there was something of obsession with the topic in Natalies life. Even clocks on the wall drove her insane
She felt as though she was stuck in a time loop of living the same day over and over. Different day on the calendar, but same life
Even her fathers clocks that littered her dirty, small, mobile home mocked her. Laughing at how powerless she was
The one thing in her life she truly could never control was the vicious cycle of living through her miserable days again and again
Wake up at 6am, school at 8am, go back home to the abuse at 4pm, fall asleep at 3am
Every. Single. Day.
Natalie hated her life more than anything. She wanted out more than anything. But she wasn’t going to be so weak as to self-harm or commit suicide. She was strong enough to take control
She just kept trying to be in control of something that couldn’t be controlled
STITCHES .
One day after school, Natalies boyfriend broke up with her.
She should’ve expected it, but she didn’t.
Chris was always nice to her, he really did try his best. But he just couldn’t even begin to understand her, and she couldn’t even begin to explain.
He told her that her outbursts were too much for him. She would snap at him and cause fights for such small reasons, everything set her off. And when he tried to talk it through with her, she’d shut down on him
Natalie never told him about the abuse, the trauma, or any of her struggles. She was drowning and never trusted a single hand reaching out to help
Chris made comments towards her art and mindset, saying it creeped him out and that she needed to seek professional help
Of course he didn’t understand. Nobody understood Natalie. The whole wide world was against her
And now the one person she actually liked and could see herself caring for turned on her and left her just like everyone else in her life
And another good thing in her life was lost to the hands of time
BORDERLINE .
For such a strong girl like Natalie, a stupid high school breakup shouldn’t have meant as much as it did
It shouldn’t have ruined her
But it did, and she was a mess
All she could think about was how much she lost. She was so desperate for control she completely lost it
And now her moods were at an all time low, her impulsivity skyrocketed and so did her anger
How fucking dare he do that to her
Natalie would start acting out, getting into fights with her parents, and her grades began to drop. Her entire life was slipping away through the cracks in between her fingers and there was nothing she could do but watch it crumble underneath her feet
It was like watching a car accident. You could see the girl spiral, you could see her crash and burn, but there was nothing you could do but sit back and watch
She didn’t care one bit. After so long of trying so hard to run from it all, she finally had nothing left to lose
So she picked up a few bad habits here and there. She would fight girls behind the school and buy cigarettes off of sketchy junkies with her parents money
Natalie started to speak up more and everything that came out of that girls mouth was trashy. She would make offensive comments and pick on people for being “so damn sensitive”
In reality, she just wanted to be seen. She wanted someone to catch her from falling so far deep into destruction and give her the attention and support she never had
But everyone found her annoying or just something to laugh at. Natalie wasn’t enjoyable to be around in the slightest
She started stealing booze from her parents and going off and getting drunk at the park near her house. The girl quickly developed a drinking problem that worsened her attitude even more
Natalie started crossing lines that shouldn’t have been crossed, and started to gain the dangerous knowledge that she could do all these awful things and the world wouldn’t come to an end
She was on top. She was powerful. And nobody was going to fuck with her again
INFIRMARY .
One night she got into a physical fight with her brother, things were broken, fists were thrown, insults were tossed back and forth
The fight had gone too far and she ended up injuring her left eye so badly she had to be taken to the emergency room
Nobody stayed by Natalies side in that hospital. She had to undergo surgery in order to remove the eye due to the damage. And neither her parents nor her brother cared enough to stay
Now around this time, the government was developed a chemical weapon known as “Liquid Hate” or “methcyclopyroxene oxydenate” if we’re going to get scientific
And if you know anything about the government, they just love to run illegal human experimentation programs on unassuming people who really wouldn’t be looked for if they went missing or worse
Natalie fell victim to a testing of an early prototype of liquid hate. During her surgery she was tied down and injected a small dosage of this chemical
Soon, she woke up and felt a jolt of adrenaline stronger than anything she’d ever felt before. It felt like her body was so hot she was going to explode, she felt jittery and like a surge of overwhelming energy soared through every cell that made up her being
And she felt so consumed by rage
Her anger was righteous and she was wielding it like an archangels sword. It was something so biblically primal when she escaped her restraints and ripped the nearest doctor apart with her own two hands
This quick blinding rush subdued slightly and she came to her senses as she caught her breath and bolted right out of the hospital in fear and out into the rainy night
The effects weren’t exactly as blinding as before but god knows they were still overtaking her senses. And when she walked down the street in that gentle, cold, rain only one thought was on her mind
Where the fuck was her family when she needed them the most?
TICK TOCK .
Now here was this angry, drugged up girl standing outside the dark house where she spent years of abuse and torment
And the blood on her hands was dripping like sin
When her mother answered the front door and saw the monster her own daughter had become, there was a part in the woman that felt as though she was looking at what she could’ve become
And like smashing a mirror, Natalie took the life of her own mother. She strangled her, brutally stabbed her with a kitchen knife and ripped open her ribcage with feral strength
As Natalie taunted the one who carried her for 9 months and brought her into the sick and cruel world she inhabited, she felt the rabid words fall off her mouth as if they had been begging to escape for years
Next was her father, who had slept through the death of his wife in a drunken slumber. The house stunk of alcohol - such a familiar smell. It made her sick to her stomach.
She snuck into her parents bedroom and took a handgun out of the bedstand drawer, shoving the barrel of the gun in her fathers booze-coated mouth and watched the fear filled his eyes as he woke up. Her finger teased the trigger as she whispered a quiet “your time is up, daddy” and blew his brains out onto the wall
This was another line Natalie crossed, another realization of her own capabilities only enhanced by the chemically induced beast-like rage. Nothing was stopping her. This was her divine right, she was in control now
And finally, she moved onto her brother who was alerted by the sound of a gunshot and walked in on his sister standing over their fathers dead corpse, blood staining her hands and soaking her white hospital gown
Lucas, like his sister, was a quiet boy who kept to himself for the most part. But like his sister, he had so much anger boiling inside of him and he was a fighter
And so the two fought once more, Lucas physically overpowered his sister for just a moment before something inside of her broke like a dam and the flood came crashing through
Natalie gained the upper hand as the fight was brought into Lucas’s bedroom, the place where her brother would abuse her for years
The overwhelming pain of the memories flooding in threw Natalie into a panicked fit as she threw her brother to the ground, ignoring his screams and berating
She climbed on top of him and incapacitated him by stabbing him several times in the abdomen, throat, and face. The girl finished her brother off by gutting him and spent her time mutilating his body like an animalistic rampage
Everything she had been bottling up finally exploded out of her and the girl showed no mercy that night
EMBERS .
Natalie stood in the bathroom, staring at herself in the mirror
She looked at the gaping hole where her left eye once was for what felt like eternity
Time came to a complete stop in that moment, it was all in the bloody palm of her hands
The only sound that filled the room was the viscous sound of her fathers pocket watch ticking softly as it rested on the messy bathroom counter
For nearly an hour she stood there heavily dissociated, zoning out of reality as she did nothing but stare at the hands of the clock moving rhythmically
Natalie soon snapped out of her dazed trance and slowly moved her dark crimson stained hand over to the pocket watch
And slowly she look a deep breath in as she brutally shoved the small clock into her empty eye socket, zoning out from the sharp pain of her body reacting to the foreign object
Now time was apart of her, and she was time itself. The girl became what she feared the most and broke the cycle she lives through over and over with her own two hands. She was no longer going to be a victim to the hands of time, she was now going to be the destroyer of it
As she exited the cold bathroom, she walked down the hallway of her small home she spent so much time in. There was no more yelling from her father, comments from her mother, fear from her brother
Natalie was all that was left
The girl entered her bedroom for the last time, changed into regular clothes and grabbed her stuffed giraffe shes had since she was a young child, named Jaffy
Jaffy had been with her through it all. She found comfort in the little giraffe, and it was the last piece of herself she had left
She walked into the kitchen with the stuffed animal and turned her gas-stove on max before laying a gentle kiss on Jaffys head and placing it onto the stovetop
Not once did she look back to the fire overtaking the giraffe as she walked out of that house, letting it become victim to the flames that would soon engulf the home
Natalie Ouellette died in that house, burning to death alongside her family in the fire
And only Clockwork walked out

Trust in Trans Becomings
This post is written by Vasudha (they/them), a Brackenridge Fellow in the David C. Frederick Honors College and a fourth year undergraduate student majoring in Natural Sciences and Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies.
My time with the transgender underground press in the Hillman Archives & Special Collections lead me to think about how trans pasts and trans presents are intertwined, especially with trans people being heavily scrutinized in our current political climate. Bans against gender-inclusive books, drag shows (1), and gender affirming healthcare (2) are being proposed and even passed at state-wide levels in an attempt to eradicate “gender ideology”, at the cost of the trans community’s safety and well-being. In looking through issues of TV-TS Tapestry, which was later renamed Transgender Tapestry, I found one trans political narrative from the past that is still present today, although in different language.
Detransitioning stories have been used often as conservative talking points for why gender affirming care should be limited, framing it as causing irrevocable harm to those who supposedly hopped on the “trans train” without a second thought, and ultimately regretted their decision (3). In a 1988 issue of Tapestry, the term “pseudo-transsexual” was used to describe people who were convinced they were trans, but were instead “very confused” and “emotionally disabled”, in the words of Sister Mary Elizabeth.
Tumblr media
(Above) Excerpt from "Sy Rogers and the 700 Club: A Response" by Sr. Mary Elizabeth, n/SSE, The TV-TS Tapestry, Issue 52, pg 46-47, 1988. University of Pittsburgh Library System, Archives & Special Collections.
As a devout Christian nun, the words of Sister Mary may seem like they come from a place of compassion and concern, seeing as she places blame on the religious community for condemning gender-diverse people, turning them away from God (see third paragraph of the above excerpt). But as a White trans woman, Sister Mary’s words only serve to cast doubt on the self-knowledge of trans people of color and other marginalized trans people, whose trans identity is more likely to be written off as false or self-convinced (4). This doubt quickly becomes reason to turn them away from receiving care, giving providers the power to choose who is “really” trans, and who isn’t.
Tumblr media
(Above) Image of Sr. Mary Elizabeth with Christine Jorgensen at the International Foundation for Gender Education 'Coming Together' Convention in 1988 from "Sy Rogers and the 700 Club: A Response" by Sr. Mary Elizabeth, n/SSE, The TV-TS Tapestry, Issue 52, pg 46-47, 1988. University of Pittsburgh Library System, Archives & Special Collections.
Today, narratives of detransitioning are covertly doing the same by feigning concern for those who were supposedly coerced into receiving gender affirming care by the “transgender ideology” spread by trans people and enabled by medical caregivers. Politicized detransitioning organizations encourage those who detransition to sue their physicians, effectively scaring well-meaning providers off from treating patients who they deem “emotionally unfit” to transition, and pushing medical practitioners to question the self-knowledge of their patients.
In addition, restricting doubt from trans experiences has related implications. In Transgender Tapestry’s Summer 2005 “Ask Ari” column, a trans woman admits to feeling doubtful about medically transitioning. Ari responds to reassure her that although medical professionals make it difficult to voice these feelings, it is completely normal for trans people to have fears surrounding the process of transitioning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Above) "Ask Ari" Column from Transgender Tapestry, Issue 108, pages 18-19, Summer 2005, University of Pittsburgh Library System, Archives & Special Collections.
I resonated with this column as someone who has felt illegitimate for experiencing trans doubt myself, and I realized that we’ve been conditioned to feel that way through medical practices. Throughout the history of trans medical care, diagnostic criteria have included experiencing mental distress in the form of gender dysphoria (formerly known as gender identity disorder) to be eligible for care. Until last year, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) required a psychologist recommendation and diagnosis for patients to be able to receive care. Although this has been removed from their standards of care, a majority of clinics still use this criteria, which in many cases doesn’t allow for trans doubt to be explored without disqualifying patients from care.
Many trans people do have doubts and fears about medically transitioning, and it’s important that these feelings can be spoken about freely so that patients can be honest about their trans experiences and trust providers with their care. If a patient is forced to exaggerate their need for care in order to be trusted and qualified to receive it, there is no space for real conversations about a patient’s needs and what they hope to achieve through gender affirming care, which is what may lead to experiences of detransitioning (in the way that conservatives view it) in the first place.
Looking into snippets of trans history provided me with a better sense of trans experiences in today’s world, by being able to see similarities at the core of trans issues throughout time. Trans archival materials serve an important purpose of reminding us that trans people have always been here, and have been fighting the same anti-trans sentiments for centuries, although they may seem different today. They give us the strength to keep fighting.

🎥 Top Documentaries Featuring Indian Wildlife and Sanctuaries
India’s wildlife is as diverse and dramatic as the country itself—from the royal Bengal tiger stalking the grasslands to rescued elephants finding solace in sanctuaries. Wildlife documentaries play a vital role in bringing these stories to global screens, raising awareness, inspiring compassion, and fueling conservation efforts.
Whether you're a student, nature enthusiast, or educator, watching documentaries is a powerful way to understand India’s ecosystems and the challenges facing its wild inhabitants. In this post, we highlight some of the most impactful documentaries featuring Indian wildlife and sanctuaries—including a special look at Vantara, an emerging voice in compassionate animal care led by Vantara Anant Ambani.
🐅 1. The Tiger Who Crossed the Line – National Geographic
This gripping documentary follows a male tiger forced to leave its territory and navigate human-dominated landscapes. Set primarily in Maharashtra, it explores human-wildlife conflict, an increasingly common issue across India.
Why Watch:
Real-life footage of a tiger’s journey into villages and farmlands.
Insight into how forest departments manage conflict.
Raises ethical questions about coexistence and habitat fragmentation.
🐘 2. Elephant Whisperers – Netflix (Oscar Winner, 2023)
Set in Tamil Nadu’s Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, this award-winning short film follows the bond between two indigenous caretakers and orphaned elephant calves.
Why Watch:
A heartwarming, true story of love and healing.
Highlights community involvement in conservation.
Showcases ethical, sanctuary-based elephant care—contrasting with exploitative models.
🦜 3. India: Nature’s Wonderland – BBC Earth
Narrated by Liz Bonnin, this two-part BBC series explores the diverse habitats of India—from the Himalayas to the Thar Desert.
Why Watch:
Features stunning drone and time-lapse footage.
Covers a wide range of species: snow leopards, flamingoes, macaques, and more.
Educates viewers on conservation efforts and challenges.
🐾 4. Vantara: Healing India’s Wildlife (Coming Soon)
Vantara, one of India’s most ambitious wildlife rescue and rehabilitation projects, is working on a dedicated documentary series that showcases its animal care, veterinary excellence, and youth outreach programs.
What to Expect:
Behind-the-scenes footage of rescued elephants, leopards, and exotic birds.
Interviews with veterinarians, animal caregivers, and volunteers.
Coverage of Vantara Anant Ambani’s compassionate vision: blending cutting-edge care with public education.
Once released, this documentary is expected to set a new standard for how sanctuaries tell stories of healing and hope.
“Each animal at Vantara is not just a rescue—it’s a second chance at life,” says Vantara Anant Ambani in early promo material.
🐍 5. Wild Karnataka – Narrated by David Attenborough
This breathtaking documentary explores the biodiversity hotspot of Karnataka through the lens of some of the best cinematographers in India.
Why Watch:
Narration by Sir David Attenborough.
Features tigers, elephants, king cobras, otters, and over 300 species.
Available in multiple Indian languages for wider accessibility.
This is one of the few Indian-made wildlife documentaries that received global acclaim for its production quality and conservation messaging.
🐆 6. India’s Wild Leopards – National Geographic
Focusing on one of India’s most misunderstood big cats, this film tracks leopards adapting to a rapidly urbanizing world—especially in Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Why Watch:
Reveals how leopards live near humans, even in cities like Mumbai.
Showcases rescue operations and tracking efforts.
Promotes awareness of non-lethal coexistence solutions.
🦏 7. Kaziranga: The Rhino Paradise – Animal Planet

Why Watch:
Unprecedented close-up behavior of wild tigers.
Educational content for schools and conservation clubs.
Highlights India’s central role in global tiger conservation.
🧠 9. How Documentaries Inspire Real-World Impact
These documentaries do more than entertain—they inspire action, shape public perception, and even influence policy. After the success of “Elephant Whisperers,” interest in ethical sanctuaries like Vantara has grown, as viewers seek real-life parallels to the compassion shown on screen.
Vantara Anant Ambani has emphasized the importance of storytelling in outreach campaigns. With plans for future educational content, Vantara aims to create accessible media for schools, colleges, and digital platforms—ensuring that the next generation of viewers becomes the next generation of changemakers.

Garth Gratrix, apexart, NYC fellowship.
Day 10 – Bingo, Performative Justice, and the Art of Showing Up.
7:30am to 9:30pm, and somehow still buzzing. Not sure how—but I’ll take it.
Started at Manhattan Courthouse to sit in on hearings and sentencings. The public are called the “audience,” which feels bleakly theatrical—lives pivoting while we watch from the sidelines. With Trump buildings wrapped in fencing and police, justice feels more like performance art than a public service. Especially the day after the UK doubled down on its copy-paste of US trans policy. Justice? Hard to spot sometimes.
No Judge Judy sightings, sadly. A formal complaint and request for merch will follow.
From there, I had a check-in at apexart with Steven Rand. A great exchange—talking through Week 1 reflections and how I’m navigating energy, critique, and embodiment. I’ve noticed how much more freely I’m speaking my mind here—not to resist, but to process out loud. That’s rare. And welcome. My time off or rest days being as necessary for unlocking self and making discoveries within the fellowship as the plethora of gifts that the itinerary is also nourishing me with.
I’m clocking how tired my body is. It might be my first real reflections on my 40 milestone and perhaps ignorance to to my needs in recent years. This might be the decade of desiring myself a bit more, getting healthier and maintaing the same youthfulness that my cute face. No good having a face of a cherub and a body like Smeagol. Not so "precious".
The fellowship is fuelling me, but I came into it mid-transition—grief, burnout, joints aching like a busted marionette. The catch-ups help ground that, turning internal noise into shared learning. Listening is powerful medicine.
Next stop: volunteering at The New Jewish Home, escorting residents to their Bingo game. I was wedged between David, Carol, and Magda—juggling their three cards for high-stakes $1 prizes. David said yes to everything, Carol was the silent Bingo assassin and Magda, the contradicting chatterbox saying "get me outta this hell hole, I'm leaving. Oh wait I've got 69". I too get distracted Magda but "eyes down lookey lookey", as we say back home to commence our Bingo. It seems I am a lucky charm, as all three won. We rode back to Floor 4 like champions. I had a really nice chat with another volunteer from Portugal studying architecture in NYC.
It was all beautifully familiar. My mum—who was a nurse for 50+ years—took Bingo very seriously. We used to play together, her running five cards at once. I used to chat to her patients at times I'd go to pick her up from work.
Standing earlier under a flickering Subway light, I’d had a flash of “Mum?”—a small spectral moment. Today, it felt like she turned up for Bingo too. The last thing she said to me was "never give up on your living ambitions".
I’m reminded Artists aren’t always caregivers in the traditional sense—but maybe we’re adjacent. We offer new breaths. Shared time. Quiet provocations. It reminded me that presence is its own kind of artwork. We walk parallel with the speed of the world and ask it to look anew.
Rather than taking the Subway, I walked through Central Park past those absurdly thin billionaire skyscrapers—$130M for a balcony you’ll use three times a year. Literal higher-archy. Power on stilts. Frost bite will get them. I thought their homes would make much better care homes for David, Carol and Magda.
I’d hoped to catch a free Lincoln Center concert but missed out. Even after queuing for 40 minutes. Patience is something I feel I carry with me daily, as is the ability to establish solutions. So I parked myself on a patch of grass and watched the sun wind down. People all around me trying to capture their perfect bridge or sunset photo, angling for icon status.
But maybe the most radical act is to not document. Just sit. Watch. Breathe. Actually be in the thing. Channeling my previous bird watching experience.
That being said, here's a picture I took haha. We are all hypocrites but assume positive intent where possible.
Tumblr media
And so ends Day 10. Courtrooms, old souls, failed concerts, and a bingo card full of memory.
Still no tattoo. No drama. But a kind of quiet clarity.

A/N - decides I wanteds to do some simple classification thingys for the Lost Boys characters because eeeeeeeeee just love them all so muchhh!!!
Classification Headcannons!!!
Tumblr media
Michael Emerson ~ Caregiver. I definitely see him as a Caregiver. He specifically looks after Sam. Has watched over David with Stars help on a few rare occasions where David accidentally regresses in front of him.
Sam Emerson ~ Flip. I say flip as I kinda see him sometimes just as a regressor but if he's in a more Caregiver headspace it's less of a parent thing and more of a big brother headspace. When he's in this headspace he'd look after the frog brothers mainly. Big brother Sam 😌
David Powers ~ Flip. This is hard for me because I personally see him as one of my fictional Caregivers however he is also (especially at the end of the movie) in my opinion very regressor coded - you kinda realise that he was just a teen who got turned to a vampire :( He looks after Marko and Paul when he's in a Caregiver headspace and when he's little he normally relies on Dwayne. I think he'd be a Caregiver lean tho as he doesn't like the vulnerability that comes with regressing. 😭
Dwayne Stephens ~ Caregiver. With the way he interacts with Laddie in the movie I honestly can't see him as anything but a Caregiver 😭🫂 He looks after all three of the boys- 😌
Paul Harris ~ Flip. This was so hard for me to kinda come to the conclusion for- he's a big brother CG lean→ specifically for looking after Marko.
Marko Thompson ~ Regressor. Baby. He is the most chaotic little ever, him and Paul together is an absolute nightmare 😂 Loves when Paul looks after him, (he loves David and Dwayne too but they have more rules for him than Paul does-)
Star ~ Flip. Caregiver lean, I don't know who'd she look after honestly, I just know she gives major CG vibes (mainly because how she acts with Laddie) sooo 🤷🏻 regresses when upset/stressed - Dwayne is her CG.
Edgar Frog ~ Permaregressor. LOVES hanging out with Sam although he won't admit it. If he's in an older headspace it's normally because Alan or Sam have slipped surprisingly young and he's now more like the big brother of everyone lol.
Alan Frog ~ Flip. Caregiver lean. Honestly Edgar, Alan and Sam just look after each other and it's incredibly chaotic but it works so oh well I guess 😂

MARK MCCLAFFERTY PRESENTS: An All-star cast Two Time Academy Award Nominee, John Hurt, Academy Award Nominee, David Strathairn, and Young Artist Award Winner, Gregory Smith, in a powerful story of courage Family films are increasingly hard to come by, especially those infused with heart, humor, and the ability to stimulate discussion. In the current climate of war and destruction, violence is socially constructed as masculinity and bravery. Now exclusively re-released through Spellbound Pictures’ website, the award-winning and critically acclaimed film “The Climb” is reaching a new audience who are discussing one of the many questions the movie poses, “What makes courage?” Three men from three generations head to personal heights to explore this meaning. John Langer (John Hurt), a crusty old civic engineer, has an arsenal full of memories.  With irreverent wit, he rattles on in his irascible humor burning his spicy stories into the imagination of a young neighbor kid, Danny Himes (Gregory Smith).  Danny is a gifted, spirited athlete with something to prove. Worldly, old man Langer has turned his back on proving anything at all. It's post WWII. Danny's father, Earl (David Strathairn), did not serve in the military and is considered a coward.  Danny excels to overcome his father's reputation while Earl is actually more a man than the town knows. Old man Langer and Danny seem an unlikely pair.  Their relationship turns from young caregiver/caretaker to student/mentor to comrades on a quest to free themselves individually and together from life's inequities and inevitabilities. “You don't smoke, you don't drink, and you don't screw.  What kind of man are you anyway?"  Langer asks Danny. The more appropriate question is: "What kind of men were they?" https://tubitv.com/movies/686072/the-... https://www.sfgate.com/movies/article... #courage #Bravery. #Soldiers. #youngboy  https://www.spellboundpictures.com/mark-mcclafferty/
