Note: I made him a damaged boy. Please forgive me. Also! Alcohol and alcohol abuse are in these headcanons. If this triggers a lot of you, I can write a more censored version so you all can still enjoy it.  

Captain Vaughn relationship and general headcanons

Vaughn seems like a pretty relaxed and level headed clone 

He wasn’t at first 

You probably met him at 79’s 

He was a corporal when you first meet him(Because this is before the bad times obv)

Vaughn is a little older than the Domino squad boys, but he still isn’t as old as his Captain 

When he was younger he was definitely a bit more rowdy, which is when you met him. 

He drank and partied a lot. Like, A LOT. 

Sometimes he would come up missing, because he was passed out in an alley somewhere.

Sometimes he’d be too busy throwing up so he couldn’t exercise or train

He was obviously in a very dark place

He definitely flirted with you. He would’ve been smooth if he hadn’t been slurring his words 

Vaughn was obviously a mess, so you too didn’t get into a serious relationship

You two stayed friends as he went through this terrible phase, trying to help him in anyway you can

Eventually he calms down. 

Of course only after he gets in trouble a few times, has a drunk tattoo, and spends more time on the battlefield does he calm down

He stops partying as much, but he still drinks quite a bit 

On Umbara he lost the last of his squad brothers who he trained with as a cadet 

Umbara shattered Vaughn. 

He showed up at your door in bloody armor and just collapsed into your arms in exhaustion and grief 

That was Vaughn’s breaking point. He had finally gotten the realization that he shouldn’t waste his life like this 

You help Vaughn get over his addiction, of course while falling deeply in love with him

One day he was laying on your couch in a pair of dumb pjama pants and one of your oversized sweatshirts, and he blurted out, “I love you.” 

You dropped the plate you were washing and stared at him. You loved him too of course 

Vaughn got a lot better, and that’s when your relationship took off. 

You two began to go on dates, most of which were at small restaurants or picnicking in the public gardens 

Both of you just needed to get out, which helped Vaughn even more 

He didn’t want to step foot in 79’s ever again, so you both stayed far away from there 

Vaughn always held your hand or had an arm around you in public, he didn’t care if others saw 

You’re his whole entire galaxy and he’ll hold your hand if he wants to

Vaughn learned how to cook while he was away on a particularly long mission 

You have no idea how it happened or who taught him(It was Kix) 

You just woke up one morning to see your completely armored up boyfriend making you breakfast 

He was back from the mission and he made you the best breakfast you had ever had 

He began to cook you both food often 

Eventually you had to hide cake batter and such from him because he loves sweets and wouldn’t stop baking shit 

His slightly silly side came out around you, yet he was still pretty level headed and reserved once he was healthy again 

As the war went on you saw how it had affected Vaughn, he became a better soldier but a more quiet man 

His PTSD was awful after Umbara, so he had nightmares often 

Most nights you cradle Vaughn’s head against your chest, letting him know that you would always be there for him

Sometimes he’ll tell you about the horrors that have plagued him sense he was a Shiny 

All you could do was stroke his hair and listen, helping him let it all out. 

You introduced scents and warm baths to help soothe him and it worked 

In the bath his drunk tattoo is very visible on his chest. It’s a battle droid hand with the middle finger sticking up with no context

He hates it but you find it hilarious 

Vaughn is very touch starved, like all clones, so he loves to cuddle 

He loves relaxing on the couch with you or in the bed 

He’s not really clingy, he’s just kind of touchy 

Vaughn is pretty romantic, and smooth as hell 

One time you came home to a surprise dinner lit by candle light , while your clone boyfriend stood there in a suit

It was an amazing surprise 

Vaughn is a sweetheart and sometimes a goofball, but he also has his bad days 

His depression is pretty severe but you make his life worth living 

He’ll bury his face into your hair and neck and whisper those words 

Vaughn doesn’t know what he’d do without you 

He often talks about  a future with you, on some other planet 

Where you two have children and a perfectly happy life

Vaughn isn’t away from Coruscant for too long thanks to his general, so he sees you a lot 

He never brings any trinkets or anything, but he does shower you with love and affection! 

Vaughn loves you with all of his heart, and he makes sure to prove it with his actions.

A/N: I wrote this after I saw artwork of Captain Vaughn from the VERY talented artist echo.base (ig) or here's their website. Since I have a wonderful weird obsession with Vaughn I decided to write another fic. Enjoy!

Something stirs you awake. Is that? What was that?

FWUMP!

Whatever just hit your window, and keeps hitting your window, is bound to wake the whole building up.

Without thinking, you rush out of bed and walk over in your not necessarily modest nightshirt. The chill of the room hits your bare legs as you clumsily comb your fingers through your hair and tuck it behind your ears. Through squinted sleepy eyes, you peek out the window.

“Vaughn?!”

Oh, merciless gods. My parents will kill me.

Quickly, you undo the latch and shove open the window. In the loudest whisper, you call down to him,

“Lieutenant Vaughn! What are you doing?! It’s two in the morning. My parents are sleeping down the hall!”

After months of forced separation, there he is, waving like a goofball from the street. That signature cocked-hip stance in his armor only makes him more attractive. Your eyes take him in once more. His hair is shorter, but it’s your Vaughn, for sure. You know, because it’s still somehow messy on the top. Both the heart in your chest and your frozen, shocked face are heating up with forbidden desire.

“Hello, mesh’la. I had to come and see you. I’m climbing up!”

“Vaughn, you—you can’t!”

You whisper-shout the words furiously, but you absolutely don’t mean them. You know that you’ve wished for this to happen almost every night since the last time you saw each other. It’s practically how you lull yourself to sleep most nights. And now, you see him in the flesh, moments from being exactly where you’ve longed for him to return. His well-practiced ascent up the four stories of small ledges, railings, and drainage pipes brings back those happier nights when the two of you were the strangest pair of friends.

It started with you and Vaughn sitting on your floor and just talking. You played him music that he had never heard and told him stories of what it was like growing up as a nat-born with a family. Vaughn was so curious what a strict and loving family was like, as he only knew the severe conditioning of trainers and the cold, distant hands of Kaminoan keepers.

Eventually, your talks moved from the foot of your bed to sitting on your bed. Then the two of you found yourselves talking, giggling, and comfortably laying in your bed. You were just as fascinated by his life as he was with yours.

He was always tender, always kind, impossibly funny— just a quirky friend. Just friends. Yes, you were an innocent, unmarried young woman who lived at home and indeed was just friends with an equally innocent, unattached, parentless, galaxy traveling, young clone lieutenant.

Until that unexpected night, months ago, when your friendship with Vaughn turned into more.

The night he first kissed you.

You both had been laughing in your bed, desperately trying not to wake up your family. So you put your hand over his mouth to keep quiet. Vaughn’s laughs seized, his expression changed to a desperate stare. He brought his hand to yours, both of you practically trembling. He gently kissed your palm. Then he kissed the pulse point on your wrist, his eyes never leaving your face. He shifted his body up over you so that he could slowly press kisses all the way up to your shoulder. Your lips beneath his, only a few breaths apart and locked at the moment, anticipating the kiss you both wanted and knew you absolutely should not share.

That first kiss.

You will never forget the feeling of how he melted into you with his kiss. It’s impossible to erase the memory of feeling like your spirit was ascending unto him. Feeling like you would float away, you had clung one hand to his broad shoulder plate, the other running busy fingers through his messy locks of dark brown hair.

Stop— I can’t think about that!

You curse yourself for forgetting the heartbreaking circumstances that have led to you quietly whisper-shouting to the man you love but cannot be with,

“Vaughn, my father will kill you!”

Finally, he grunts the last shuffle to your window ledge.

“No, he won’t. He’s a pacifist...by order of The Gods!...right?”

Vaughn’s beautiful face and messy hair were now before you—your chest heaving with excitement, anxiety, and longing. The smile that brightens on your face matches Vaughn’s equally gorgeous smile reacting to seeing you again after so long.

Lt. Vaughn really, really cannot be here.

You are promised to another. In thirty-three rotations, seventeen hours, and now nine minutes on the chrono, you will be married to a complete stranger but one of your faith. A custom of the religious order your family has been worshiping, strictly devout, for generations ad infinitum.

But right now, all you want is for Vaughn to stay forever and never leave your sight.

“Captain Rex almost caught me sneaking out, mesh’la. I risked it anyway. Something told me I just had to see you before I go.”

It’s as though no time had passed since that devastating night when your parents eventually caught him sneaking out. One comm message from you (dictated by your father) and one reply from Vaughn,

“I understand, cyare. Your friend, always. -Lt. Vaughn”

“You have to go?! What do you mean? You, you just got here! Where this time?

“It’s an exciting one, mesh’la…The 501st is heading to Mandalore!” Vaughn’s smile stretches from ear to ear and straightens his shoulders with pride.

Not you though, you are paralyzed in place. Your mouth turns down with a heavy dread. The chill in your bones froze what little wetness left in your mouth. A dry, painful swallow burns your throat and down to your heart. Your sporadic, untrained gift of visions and foresight plagues you with images of blood, horns, fire, darkness, broken glass, and bright blue eyes looking upon death, looking upon Vaughn.

“Don’t. You can’t,” you frantically motion for Vaughn to come inside finally. He dutifully responds and crawls through the open window, locking it behind him like he always used to, exactly like he always used to do.

“Can’t what? Kiss you? Of course, I won’t if -if you don––”

“NO, Vaughn! I mean you cannot go to Mandalore. Please…please don’t go.”

His golden eyes are searching your face, worried now and confused. He doesn’t know how to respond.

“I have to. I can’t just leave. You, of all people, should understand that.”

You take his gloved hand in yours, squeezing it tight to communicate something more than just begging words.

“I do. Just please, Vaughn, my love, listen to me….”

He steps closer to you. Closer enough that now you have to embrace him, your face pressing against his armor, his arms wrapping around your trembling frame.

“My love, my beautiful cyare, if I could be with you, I would stay and risk it all. You know I would. But we both know that can’t happen, you are promised to another, and I’m a soldier bound to fight or die.”

In this desperate moment, you have a decision to make—the significance of it weighing on your heart, locking up your gut, and spinning your thoughts. You squeeze the armor covering Vaughn’s broad and rugged frame tighter. He kisses the crown of your head, and every hair on your scalp reacts to signal the genuine love the two of you share. The coursing energy surges through your body right down to your toes.

You know what you have to do, and it will mean a sacrifice that will change your life forever. Knowing exactly what you want to happen next, you look up at Vaughn and say…

Slow Dancing part 2

You bite your nails and glance at the Chrono. The 332nd is returning to Coruscant today. The only problem?

Vaughn hasn't answered his comm since the news of victory broke.

And would you ever know what happened? The sacrifice of being in a secret relationship is that when one dies, no one knows to tell their lover.

You steel your nerves and step out of the apartment. They landed hours ago. He promised he'd come home to you.

When you arrive at the barracks, troopers donning helmets similar to your Vaughn's swarm the area, but none of them have a visor….

Your heart shatters. You spot…Captain Rex? And a togruta who you're pretty sure is the Commander talking to another jedi, and you have to restrain yourself from begging them for answers. So instead, you trudge home as tears prick at your eyes.

He didn't come home…

You're fully crying as you fumble with the lock and head straight to the bedroom, right past the boots by the door, right past the vase of flowers that definitely weren't there where when you left. You collapse onto the bed with a heart wrenching cry when you hear plates clatter and footsteps coming up the hall.

Your eyes widen as you see Vaughn, alive and well, standing in the doorway with a concerned expression. His dark curls are highlighted in the golden hour glow streaming through the window, and his soft brown eyes fix on your trembling form.

“Ner cyar’ika?” he asks, but you've already launched yourself at him and begun crying even harder in his embrace.

“VAUGHN!” You sob into his shoulder, clutching him closer.

“Hey, hey, shhh…” he coos as his hand runs up and down your back.

“I thought you were dead! I went to the barracks…and you didn't answer your comm…and…and…” you're cut off by another sob and he chuckles quietly.

“I came home to surprise you with dinner. As for the comm…it got damaged on Mandalore and hasn't been working properly. I tried to send a message but obviously it didn't go through.”

You huff and press your cheek to his chest.

“Cyar'ika,”

He brings his hand to tilt your chin upward with a little smile.

“I believe I owe you an apology,” he says, lips inches from yours before capturing them in a heart-stopping kiss. His lips are warm and soft as they melt into yours.

When he you break the kiss, he smiles and rests his forehead upon yours.

“I'm sorry I made you cry ner kar'ta. I didn't think that one through.”

You're vaguely aware that you and your lover are now swaying to some phantom rhythm from your memories. It brings a smile to your face for the first time in a while.

“I'm just glad that you're alive…I really thought I'd lost you.”

He chuckles again. “And leave my girl all alone with no dance partner? I don't think so.”

Warmth blooms in your chest as he presses his lips to your temple.

Your nose twitches as something smoky travels through your home, and he realizes as well because he's stopped dancing and let go of you to run towards the kitchen. You follow, a giggle welling up inside you as he peeks apologetically over a burnt dish.

“Well I was going to surprise you with dinner but…” he gestures to the plate and you smile, crossing the distance towards him.

“Oh Vaughn…thank you. But you're the only thing I need right now.”

He smiles as he sets the pan aside. “I can work with that, Mesh'la.”

He came home...

Day 8: Choosing to Help

Pairing: Mer Vaughn x Jedi Reader

Summary: Sometimes helping is more than worth the danger.

Author’s Note: So I know I haven’t given much detail on the Jedi in this AU. And that will change in tomorrow’s fic. So sorry if anything is confusing here because of that. Hopefully, there isn’t. Also, when you see the prompt… get your mind out of the gutter. It’s not gonna go down that route. 🤣

Warnings: some references to war trauma and this world’s version of order 66. But I think that’s it.

Prompt: A squid with human eyes must not be harmed, thrown back as quickly as possible. I’ve seen too many good fishermen cursed to let it happen again.

The whole fishing boat goes deadly silent when they see what was in your hands. The massive fishing net had been pulled onto the deck. Among all the fish, you had seen the wriggling tentacles of an oddly colored squid; it was white and blue with a little bit of orange. You had slowly picked it up only to be met with a pair of brown human eyes. You just stood there unmoving and soon the whole crew stood around you with a meter of distance.

A gunshot draws you all out of your almost trance like state. Your captain stands with his flint lock pistol aimed at the sky.

“Don’t hurt it and throw it back.” No one moves. “Now! Do you want to be cursed!?” They all scramble out of your way as you dash to the railing. You hold your arms out to drop it in the water only for the tentacles to wrap around your arm. You hear the other sailors gasp behind you.

To your surprise though, it’s gentle and it looks at you expecting something. What’s worse is that you know exactly what it wants, but you can’t blow your cover here.

“Please let go.” You plead. It blinks at you for a long tense moment before it does just that. You let out a sigh of relief as the ship immediately begins heading for shore.

You have never had so many good luck charms thrown at you. The Mer who show interest like that don’t just give up and they all know that wasn’t the end. The Captain is just relieved he was able to save your life. However, for the safety of himself and the rest of the crew, he asks you to find different work. You are a bit annoyed but you don’t hold it against them.

And they are right this wasn’t over; you soon see that squid in the river that ran along the road home. You shiver, but don’t shrink away from it. In fact, you kneel down at the sandy river bank as he comes up to you. This river connects into the ocean you remember as he stops in front of you; you should have taken another way home.

“If I do this for you, they’ll know I’m here.” You want so badly to turn him away, but the pleading look those eyes give you makes you cave. You had seen and felt so many men with those same eyes die around you during the war. Even after your Mer clones tried to kill you, their dying cries on the battlefield still haunt your dreams.

You extend your hand out into the water and softly begin to chant. The squid swims up to you and you feel the slimy skin under your fingers. He waits patiently as you slowly transfer your raw magic to him; even with all your Jedi training, bringing suppressed magic back to the surface is difficult. You close your eyes, trying to increase your focus; you have to hurry.

A loud gasp of an all too familiar voice fills the air and you stop chanting. Your vision swims and the Mer clone’s arms barely catch you before you hit the shallow water.

“Easy. I got you, sir.” You laugh even though it makes your head hurt. You cuddle into him. You shouldn’t after what had been done to you by his brothers, but you have been alone for what feels like forever. It is nice to be held again.

“I’m not a general anymore.” You say softly. You feel him slowly get to his feet, but you can sense his uncertainty. You slowly examine his blue and white armor, recognizing the famous battalion color. “You have been stuck inside a squid since before the end of the war huh?”

“The war is over?” You have a lot to fill him in on and very little time to do so. The Inquisitors will be here soon; you know it.

“We need to run. I am now a wanted fugitive and you are property of the new empire.” You can sense his confusion and fear, but he hold you to him protectively. You could cry; you haven’t felt protected and safe in a long time. Slowly, you look up at the orange and white helmet, recognizing the pattern from an old friend. Those brown eyes from earlier meet yours and you can see black curls with blue tips sneaking out under the helmet.

“I’m Captain Vaughn.” He begins moving quickly toward your home, going the direction you had been headed before. “Gather your strength. I’ll protect you. I promise.”

Once you grab your kyber sword, you and Vaughn steal a small ship in the dead of night. He is able to activate the runes to get the ship in a hyper current just as your Inquisitor executioners arrive.

2020 fic recommendations

2019 fic recommendations.

So... 2020 was a bit of a shit storm wasn't it?! I'm not going to wax lyrical about my year, because while I had some real lows, and it did do a number on my mental health, I'm far luckier than a lot of people.

Something that really suffered was my creative spark, which was really annoying after rediscovering my love for writing in 2019. I know I'm signed up to a couple of writing challenges – if you are the host(s) of a challenge that I'm a part of, I am fully intent on writing those stories, and I'm super sorry for missing the deadline.

I am also super behind with my fic reading. I have around 70 fics in my drafts, that I am fully intending to read and reblog/comment on. If you've tagged me in one of your fics and I haven't interacted with it yet, I promise that I'll be reading it soon.

Below are some of my favourite fics and writers of 2020 - I’m sure that despite spending most of the day on this post, I will have forgotten someone and for that I can only apologize. I first came across Trillian at the end of last year with her incredible The Assistant Series, which I am certain will stick with me for a long time. I adored the slow, subtle way that she made Ransom redeemable without making him too out of character and without shying away from his awful deeds in Knives Out. I've also been really enjoying her Chef!Bucky and Plus sized!reader series Just A Taste, as well as her Steve series The Harlot.

@worksby-d – Masterlist

I came across Dest's work via her She's The One series, and Protective stepdad!Chris series. While these two have similar premises, I'm really enjoying the different takes on the Chris x single mum! Reader trope. If you want to be squished under a giant ball of fluff, I would recommend both of these fis. I'm also really enjoying her Andy Barber Series A Great Mentor, as well as her one shots/head cannons/requests.

I think it's safe to say that her Cowboy!Steve series Ride & Prejudice and Love & Brotherhood, and her Sugardaddy!Ransom Fic The Highest Bidder are some of my favourite stores I've read this year. I know he's fictional, but I would happily die for super soft cowboy Steve any day. Also in The Highest Bidder, I adored how Ransom's growth is also not too out of character.

As I briefly mentioned earlier, I feel that a lot of Cevans  pre-cap characters don't get the love in fic that they deserve. One thing I have noticed this year is that this is changing. There have been a wave of Jensen fics, along with some great Mike Weiss, Johnny Storm, and Colin Shea stories. A/N: why is this so short???

Music floats softly into the living area of your apartment. It’s hardly the focus of your attention though, as you’re swaying in your lover’s arms right now.

Vaughn’s lips press delicately to your temple, and his whisper brushes across the skin.

“Oh, stars,” He sighs “I missed you so much Cyar’ika.”

You blush and smile. “Missed you too. The 501st is gone too often”

He nods in agreement, spinning the both of you slowly with a playful smile.

“Yknow, I don’t know why people don’t do this more often,” He muses.

“Dancing?”

“Yeah. I mean who wouldn’t love holding their partner and swaying to some soft music?”

You smile at this, resting your chin on his shoulder.

“Some people don’t enjoy the little things anymore.”

Vaughn scoffs. “Well some people are idiots.” He says, kissing your forehead again

You giggle and he tugs you just a little closer. You know that time means everything to him. The clones lives are shortened exponentially, and until someone finds a cure to the accelerated aging, their fate is up in the air. The end of the war is quickly approaching, yet Vaughn and his brothers are no closer to freedom.

“Cyar’ika…” Vaughn’s voice pulls you from your thoughts. You realize that he’s stopped dancing with you and he’s just hung up his comm.

You notice the wary look in his eyes and your stomach sinks.

“We’re being called to Mandalore.”
