Did you like that cgi captain harlock movie? I haven't watched it yet (I am averse to cgi anime)
I didn’t watch it for the same reason. It scared me. They weren’t meant to be 3d. I heard it was meh.

In the Captain Harlock stories, the Cosmo Dragoon is the only handgun capable of taking down an Andromedan machine man with a single shot. So, naturally I had to 3D print and paint one for my lady. Printed in resin on an Anycubic Mono 4K printer using ITALYmaker's STL files.

Bursted my way through a bunch of smaller indie titles that I had been accumulating on my Switch, so here’s a brief review of all four of them!
Creature in the Well: This actually came out nearly a full year ago now, but I only just picked it up. It’s a nifty little action game themed after pinball: you control a robot who’s charged with re-powering a mountain-sized weather machine, and you do this by hitting balls of energy into de-powered pylons. Re-powering pylons earns you energy points, which you can to open the way forward and, if you find the right materials by hunting for secret rooms by completing trickier pinball puzzles, power up your robot so that it hits harder and faster. My biggest complaint is that the “dungeons” are all made up of identical rooms, but shuffled around and palette swapped, so an already short game is made to feel even shorter by how samey everything is. A fun romp, but there’s really not much else to say about it.
Panzer Paladin: Sorry to say that this was definitely the most disappointing game on this list, especially since this was the one I was most hyped for after demoing it at PAX a few times. It’s a platformer that takes nearly all of its design cues from Mega Man, except that instead of a robot with a projectile, you control a robot with a laser whip who pilots a giant mech who picks up all sorts of swords, spears, and clubs from the enemies they beat. The weapons the mech acquires all have durability, but they also have an associated spell, and you can manually break them to do things like boost your attack and defense, heal yourself, enchant your weapons with a beam attack, and a few other fun niche abilities. The problem is that despite taking its design cues from Mega Man, it executes worse than the original Mega Man on basically everything. There are too many stages, and they’re all too long and homogeneous with bad checkpoints and sudden difficulty spikes, typically right before a checkpoint. You have a stage select, but it ultimately doesn’t matter because the only thing you get from beating any particular boss is a weapon with a higher attack, durability rating, and unique appearance, but are otherwise functionally identical to all the other weapons you get. Even its neat original ideas don’t hold up great: you can hop out of your mech and platform with your much smaller and much more fragile main character, but the only reason you’d do this is if the game requires it or if your mech loses all of its HP, and you might wind up in a situation where you get to a checkpoint but can’t actually use it, because checkpoints have to be manually activated by your mech giving up a weapon, so most of the time if you find yourself without a mech, it’s easier to just take the L and throw yourself into a pit. Ultimately, the best thing about the game is its character design in cutscenes, which is very much inspired by late 70′s/early 80′s anime like Captain Harlock and Super Dimension Fortress Macross.
Raji: An Ancient Epic: Raji was the game that caught my attention the most during the recent Nintendo Indie direct, both because the game and the story behind it seemed neat. The development team is almost entirely from India, a part of the world not particularly well known for game development, and certainly not action-adventure games with an emphasis on combat. It was also rescued after a failed crowdfunding campaign, and is currently being featured as a timed exclusive for the Switch, so I was rooting for it as soon as I found out about it. You play as Raji, a circus performer in ancient India who sets out to rescue her brother after he’s abducted by demons. The game is narrated by the Hindu gods Durga and Vishnu, who also grant Raji boons in the form of weapons and elemental blessings so she can hold her own against the demons. The adventuring part of the game is pretty simple, mostly just contextual button presses, and you’ll occasionally arrive at very simple rotation based puzzles, or murals depicting Hindu mythology that you can interact with for context. The combat is the more interesting part of the game: you have a series of three light attacks, heavy attacks, and dodges that chain into each other infinitely (compare to other action games where you have defined combo strings that force some kind of pause at the end unless manually interupted), which is pretty necessary how many enemies you can be put up against at once and how much wind-up your attacks have and how little hitstun the enemies suffer. It’s definitely different than what I expect from combat, but not necessarily bad. The game does have a number of issues, including (especially) technical performance on the Switch, difficulty completely falling off once you get your last elemental blessing, and a story that ended so abruptly that I thought maybe I missed a true ending requirement somewhere along the way- ultimately, all the kinds of things you’d expect from a crowdfunded game from a brand new studio. I’d say the game is worth giving a shot, but you’d probably be better off waiting for it to come out on other consoles or PC. It’s not the worst Switch port I’ve ever played, but running better than Bloodstained isn’t too high a bar to get over.
A Short Hike: Easily the best game on this list. As the title implies, A Short Hike is about hiking up a trail to get to the top of a mountain. You can choose to take the direct route up the mountain, or explore the campground and do some other activities, such as collecting seashells, boating, or parkour racing. Based on that description, you might think the game is just a walking simulator, but the critical addition of simple mechanics like jumping, gliding, and climbing instead result in a game that feels like Breath of the Wild set in the low stakes world of Animal Crossing, complete with big eyed animal folk who look almost exactly like Animal Crossing villagers. The controls are nice and tight, and it runs as smooth as butter on the Switch thanks to the simplistic art style, which is best described as “3D on a Nintendo DS”. My only strike against the game is that it’s writing feels very... “be gay do crimes”. That’s probably the wrong way to describe it, but that’s the phrase I think of when every piece of dialog in a game feels very quirky and saccharine and absolutely nothing else. It’s not a bad tone for a game like this, and I did have a few laugh out loud moments, but I wish there was just a bit more variety in that respect. Even so, this game is absolutely in the running for a spot on my personal Top 10 of the year (even though it technically came out on PC last year).

Space Pirate Captain Harlock
Space Pirate Captain Harlock
Type: Should I count a 3d movie? Synopsis: So a bunch of jerks fly around in space being jerks while a bunch of losers rule humanity by being losers. In this movie, the losers send a baby loser to infiltrate the jerks, then the jerks go back home and start fighting with the losers, then the baby loser gives everyone a flower so they’ll stop fighting. Pros: The 3d animation is gorgeous. I can’t…

40 years ago, the 3d july 1978, UFO Robo Grendizer is broadcasted for the first time in France, on Antenne 2. It is renamed “Goldorak”.
I was only 1 year old then, but it had a decisive impact on my life.
Goldorak was a huge hit and it was the beginning of japanese anime’s huge popularity in France. The first wave with Grendizer, Captain Harlock, Candy, Versailles No Bara, Captain Future... The second wave with Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, Maison Ikkoku, Hokuto no Ken, Sailor Moon... And then the beginning of manga edition.
Back then, kids loved Goldorak, parents were a bit worried about all that violence, and intellectuals and editorialists loathed that japanese invasion. It was the fear of the “yellow threat” and every anti-japanese racist cliché was used to bash the anime: “violent samurai spirit”, “industrial imperialism”, “low quality copy of occidental imagery”....
Even the Godwin Point:
During more than two decades, anime were bashed by adults and loved by kids... Until those kids grew up and became adults. Some of them look back at Goldorak with nostalgia, some are still anime fans, some, even, are manga editors.
France has now one of the strongest manga market outside of Japan, and we can thank Go Nagai, Toei and Goldorak for that.

Final Project: Progress
Hi, again :)
If you read my previous post: Final Project: intro, this is the second part of it.
I learned Maya in my 1st semester. This means that it is my main 3D modeling program that I use.
Basically, I decided to use a floating castle from Sword Art Online animation. The castle is composed of 100 floors. Therefore, with a help of my friend in an architecture major, I was able to divide the castle into 3 parts.
1st floor has a house where two main characters lived in the game.
2nd floor has a town. So it gives a different feeling from the 1st floor. There are more buildings and this floor gives a feeling of a town festival.
A brilliant idea that I came up with him for a 3rd floor is my classroom. He suggested me to model my classroom to surprise users. I liked the idea, because who would honestly expect the classroom in environment of a fatnasy genre project.
Here are some of my examples.
This is the Aincrad castle from Sword Art Online animation.
This is a house where main two characters in Sword Art Online lived.
These are buildings for my second floor of the project. (Never use Maya like this.. it is little unorganized. haha)
This is a secret.. but I am just mentioning that this is my main classroom where most classes of my major take a place.
This is Arcardia spaceship from a Captain Harlock TV series show. (Japanese animation)
I like to use a terrain to shape the environment of my projects. I usually get a raw file of terrain image from the terrain.party website. And I control its measurements like height, width, and length smooth the surface out.
I also use an audio source in the Unity program to put music effects like bird sounds, soundtracks, etc....
For users to move, I use a teleportation script that a whole class worked on with the professor. There are other ways to walk in VR by swinging your arms, etc.... But, the teleportation is the best possible method right now, because swinging your arm can cause you to feel sick.
Here are some progress example photos from my Unity file.
This is a floor 1 with the house.
This is floor 2 with buildings.
This is a floor 3 with a plot twist~
A final scene is.. ‘still on a progress’- not available yet-
I knew this project will be the hardest journey that I had ever had in my life. Therefore, to prepare that I started it since Spring Break (started on March 12th and ended on March 16th). It is surprised to me that I worked on this for a month and two weeks. (I thought I have worked on this for 2 months.. Time goes slow~)
Even though I started early, the journey was never easy.
However, one thing that I can say surely is I was able to continue the journey until now because I was 100% into it. I had a clear vision of what I wanted to display. Sometime, I neglected to do other assignments, because the project was my absolute priority.
I rarely felt if I am just being ignorant keep working on the project, because in the worst case.. I can end up not finishing it and do not well in other classes.
However, currently, I felt it was a never wrong idea. Able to see my creations in a virtual world made me get dragged in there automatically. I never wanted to leave that place.
I remember some people talked to me that it might be a time waste to build a bunch of assets when I can get them from online.
However, I just focused at walking my own path to prove to the world that there is a newborn student who can create his own beautiful world by using my his own creations and knows how to work with programming languages at the same time.
What kind of monster am I raising inside me to release at future . . . haha.
Just following my dream is the key. :)
Thank you

After I've spent decades guessing, modern 3D modeling software has given me the chance to line these ships up together and compare sizes. With 3D printing, a 1:350 Yamato might look nice next to my NCC-1701 refit in the same scale. The Arcadia of Captain Harlock is just a little too big to be practical for me by comparison. As for the SDF-1 Macross... (hysterical laughter)

Hi guys! Here’s part two on my progress, for page 8. I go into my process under the cut. Again, if this kind of behind-the-scenes stuff interests you, I post a lot of it on Patreon. *SHAMELESS PLUGGING CONTINUES*
I’ve taken the sketch and I’ve inked almost everything. The only thing that remains is one tiny little detail on the dune in the foreground on the right-hand panel. I realized while I was going along that it may be difficult to understand the progression from the fourth panel to the fifth panel--the closeup eye shot, then the desert landscape. The point of the landscape shot is to show where Remy Rosario has been imprisoned--deep within a sand dune on a barren planet. (This makes me think of Khan from Star Trek, now that I think of it...)
So I decided, to make it clearer, to add Remy’s ship sticking out from the dune, and two little figures walking out of it, implying they’ve left her there. BUT OH WAIT, THIS IN ITSELF IS GONNA BE A CHALLENGE, BECAUSE GUESS WHAT? I HAVEN’T DESIGNED THE FRICKIN’ SPACESHIP YET. And yeah, I know it doesn’t have to be super detailed or fully conceived because we’re only seeing a small portion of it, but dammit I need there to be CONSISTENCY. (I also recall that Gollum in Fellowship of the Ring didn’t have a finalized design yet by that point in production, but you know, they had him appear briefly anyway AND IT WAS FINE)
So I decided to look up some ships from Captain Harlock, Trigun, and Cowboy Bebop. At this point I realized I wouldn’t be satisfied just crudely emulating these extremely idiosyncratic ships, without really knowing how to draw spaceships in the first place. And being the perfectionist I am, I knew I wanted to design a ship in a 3D space, so that I would have a fully-conceived idea of what it looks like, from numerous different angles. That’s a hard thing to sketch out on paper.
So I went hunting around for free spaceship designing games, and landed on StarMade. Never done this before, flying by the seat of my pants. We’ll see how this goes! :)
This one also involved an UNGODLY amount of references. My computer screen is currently cluttered with Irfanview files, Google images, and a Youtube still. I am so grateful it’s held up under all this. Just to give you a sample of the weird shit I’ve been looking up:
-sand dunes
-person being arrested
-bionicle 2 legends of metru nui toa lhikan (explanation: there was a very specific still of Toa Lhikan in this movie, where he gets handcuffed by this cool electricity/energy thing. I thought it was so awesome and futuristic I just wanted to include it. Also, my dork is showing. Now you all know I love Bionicle.)
-Flynn Rider escaping guards
