I’m rereading the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C Wrede because I loved them as a kid and there’s this part where a princess is lamenting that she’s not a very good princess because princess things never happen right for her (she has a wicket fairy at her christening but the fairy has a great time so she doesn’t get cursed, she gets a spinning wheel and doesn’t prick her finger, she spins straw into linen but not gold, etc.) and one of the things she mentions is being sent into the forest with bread and told to give some to anyone who asks. The second person she gives it to is a fairy in disguise but her ‘reward’ for being kind isn’t the usual “diamonds and roses fall from her lips when she speaks” but “you will never have any problems with your teeth” and as an adult reading that I’m like GIRL YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT A GIFT THAT IS ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME I WOULD KILL FOR PERFECT TEETH THAT DIDN’T HURT ALL THE FREAKING TIME WHAT HTE HECK
