Habitat & Distribution

Found in a variety of habitats, including savannah, scrubland, woodlands, and deserts

Ranges across central and southern Africa, from Kenya to South Africa

Physical Description

Weight: 10 to 24 kilograms (22 to 53 pounds)

Length: 63 to 81 centimetres (25 to 32 inches)

Cape porcupines are black, with a large mane of black and white striped quills which can reach up to 50 centimetres (20 in) in length

They are stocky, with short limbs and five claws on each foot

Behaviour

Cape porcupines mainly eat roots, tubers, bulbs, ad tree bark; they may also consume carrion and bones opportunistically

They are monogamous, living with a single partner in a well-defended burrow

Hyenas, leopards, lions, and wild dogs may attempt to predate upon cape porcupines, but success is rare

Key Advantages

The cape porcupines long quills can be extremely painful when embedded in the flesh

As rodents, cape porcupines have large front incisors which can inflict a severe bite

Now, let me tell you that I have never seen someone become so attatched to a design of mine in such a short span of time until Survival Games here.

But before we discuss the lucky bugger, let's discuss the ideas. I took inspo from our lovely Yvel Assasins for this one, decked out in a red and black military vest {or an attempt at one}, black cuffed jeans and the best off-white shirt you could ever wear to a death-game. That mask they carry too, fully customisable with the right coding know-how, though it seems to only be capable of blue and red designs, maybe it's a colour preference or a fault with the model?

And finally the Species choice... Porcupines are dangerous and can impale you if you're not careful :)

Unfortunately for anyone eying this design up, it's already on hold for @cherrykitkat who while I was making them more or less offered up their soul for this thing.

I wanted a physically capable, early game normal type but was struggling to think of a candidate until I remembered I really like Cape porcupines. Originally three stages, the middle stage wasn't really different enough so I scrapped it. Guinib live in small herds that huddle together when in danger, creating a phalanx of spines predators find difficult to negotiate. Considered friendly, if not high-strung, they can make good pets once accustomed to people but will always have an anxious nature. Stabbybara are more inclined to wander alone, rarely congregating in numbers greater than two. Much more confident than their younger bretherin and more difficult to tame, they can be quite ornery in the face of danger and eager to face a challenge with their barbed spines. --Attack Info-- --Ability Info--

shark of the day: ghost catshark, apristurus manis ------------------------------------------------------------ the ghost catshark is a species of deep water catshark. they grow to be around 85 cm(~2.7 ft) long. ghost catsharks are found in deep waters in very specific parts of the atlantic ocean including  massachussetts in the us, porcupine bank near ireland, and around cape town in south africa. they eat deep water fish and invertebrates.

Imagine an Animorphs-esque Batman au

 Like, either Alfred as an andalite who crash-landed on the Wayne’s property and they just kind of pack bonded with him or some other andalite crash lands at some point. Either way, Bruce ends up being allowed to touch a morphing cube after the death of his parents. Perhaps is even given it to keep hidden- the one thing he has no files on just in case. 

 So he goes off on his training trip while hiding his whole shapeshifting, seeing as he doesn’t want to get stuck in animal form. (Though who knows, magic might be able to help if he ever does.) Only practices said shapeshifting or gathering animal forms when no one else is around, trying to get down the time and changing some things before others. Bruce doesn’t really use it for Batman, except for stakeouts. Honestly, who expects a vigilante to appear when there’s no one around but the birds perching on the buildings? And flying is always freeing. 

 Now he doesn’t mean to give his Robins the same ability, it’s not his power to give in his opinion even if it’s beyond useful. Also Dick and the others would have a far easier time sneaking out before they even became his official partner and kept trying to go off for revenge. But then Dick got separated from him and got hurt, then Jason nearly got killed, then Barbara nearly couldn’t escape something, and he brings them through the twisting tunnels one by one to the cube. There’s no take backs, only two hours in each form before they need to return to their base one. He doesn’t care about keeping secret identities, as long as they stay safe and alive.

The African wild dog (Lycaon pictus), also known as the painted dog, or Cape hunting dog, is a wild canine native to sub-Saharan Africa where they tend to prefer savannahs and scrublands, though there are some that inhabit wetlands, woodlands and montane areas. African wild dogs are a highly social diurnal species which lives in permanent packs of 2 to upwards of 25 individuals typically lead by the oldest female. Capable of reaching upwards of 40mph, African wild dogs are remarkable persistence hunters known for running large prey down over long distances. Said prey include various antelope and gazelle species, warthogs, wildebeest, hares, cane rats, African porcupine, bat-eared foxes, lizards, zebras, and cape buffalo. African wild dogs are themselves occasionally preyed upon by lions, spotted hyenas, and crocodiles. Reaching around 24 to 30 inches (60 to 75cms) tall at the shoulders, 39 to 60 inches (100 to 153cms) in length, and 40 to 80lbs (18 to 36kg) in weight, the African wild dog is a solidly built canine notable for being comparatively lean and tall, with oversized ears and missing dewclaws. The fur of the African wild dog differs significantly from that of other canids, consisting entirely of stiff bristle-hairs with no underfur. Adults gradually lose their fur as they age, with older individuals being almost naked. Coloration may vary considerable between individuals usually being a mix of yellows, browns, oranges, blacks, and whites. Breeding may occur year round and after a 69 to 73 day pregnancy a mother will give birth to 6 to 16 pups. At around 3 weeks the pups venture out of the den and met the rest of the pack. Once the pups reach the age of eight to 10 weeks, the pack fully abandons the den and the young follow the adults during hunts. The youngest pack members are permitted to eat first on kills, a privilege which ends once they become yearlings. Under ideal conditions an African wild dog may live up to 15 years.

before we went home we got to see the tropical thunderstorm event in the cape porcupine's enclosure! it simulated rain and thunder, then the fog that crosses the water afterwords. the water also had huge koi fish.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day

As rodents, cape porcupines have a terrific bite! Their incisors grow continuously, so they often chew on extremely hard materials like tree bark in order to wear down their teeth. As a bonus, some of these substances-- like bones-- have lots of important minerals that help keep their quills sharp!

Hey!! have you ever shipped a crosship rarepair from 2 different fandoms? my favourites are Rectangular Businessman (12 oz mouse) X Magic Myc (inside job) X Bill Cipher (gravity falls) and Pyronica from gravity falls x Man woman from 12 oz mouse !!!

Yeah I have actually! In fact I now have 3 CrackShips that I’m absolutely proud of…

The first one I made was Tattoo from The Secret Life of Pets and Short Fuse from The Penguins of Madagascar Movie

The Second one was Cape from Cats and Peachtopia aka Cats 2018 and Loki from Total Drama’s Ridonculous Race that was so batshit crazy that it will be the most out of the 3 to unlikely ever become canon

My newest addition to my CrackShip line up is Mr.Boss from Smiling Friends and Deputy Denny from Squidbillies

If I were to rank all of my CrackShips based on how their relationship would last and their likely chances of ever becoming canon in a potential crossover, I would put it like this…

#1. Mr.Boss x Deputy Denny since they are both owned by Adult Swim and Warner Bros respectively and although they would have a poor start with Mr.Boss being a wealthy businessman who has psychological issues but is very kindhearted and Deputy Denny being a stick in the mud and a literal man child, but overall they do manage to make their relationship seem comprehensive and even got married at one point while having Lucy The Daughter of The Devil be there surrogate mother for their baby daughter Janice (who is an oc I’ll potentially make in the future) and become one big happy family

#2. Tattoo and Short Fuse since Short Fuse is a reliable member of The North Wind and what if he saved Tattoo’s life at one point or another and it just worked out over time?! Tattoo is a shy awkward pig who is very fun once you get to know him and Short Fuse is a wildcard but can also have his arrogant moments but manages to tone it down in front of Tattoo so that he wouldn’t end up scaring him away and ruining his reputation in The North Wind organization. Plus the other members of The North Wind are very inflamed (especially Classified) about the fact that Short Fuse is dating a pig that he saved one time and still kept him around for so long! Short Fuse ended up quitting his job at The North Wind later on to focus more on his love life and his future family of 3 adopted kids named Sparkle (an elephant seal), Ricky (a naked mole rat) and Corky (an axolotl) after getting marrying Tattoo shortly after leaving which is why his old pals who worked at The North Wind betrayed him and never bothered showing up to his wedding since deep down inside, Short Fuse really misses them

Now he has new friends to hang out with called

LugNutz (an elephant) BBQ (a porcupine) and Quaff (an ostrich) that him and Tattoo often go to a bar in time square New York

#3. Cape and Loki since Cape is 3d and Loki is 2d, their possibilities of being canon are just nonexistent since Cape is from a movie made from China and Loki is from a show made in Canada and since Cape is too lighthearted and optimistic for Loki’s aggressive and outrageous attitude, it’s pretty clear that they might never last a long term relationship

So that’s all you need to know and if there’s any more CrackShips I might come up with in the future, I’ll be sure to let u guys know!

Holiday Pictures 2023! (part 2)

A continuation of my holiday pictures for friends on Twitter!

This one is for Luna! I’ve drawn her Yoshi character quite a long time ago, but this was my first time drawing her porcupine self. I’ve admired her artwork for a long while, so hopefully my style does the character justice.

For AtroxChobatsu, it’s the ever-toony Sarah N. Dippity! I had drawn her a few times before, but this time I put her in a situation that shows more toony expressiveness. Seems she’s attempted to slow her fall, but that umbrella she’s using doesn’t appear to have held up…

This one is for the also-very-toony Dingoroo! I remember him from way back in my DeviantArt days. His art style was and still is very cute! I tried to make Dingoroo in my own style here. Not sure what he’s planning to do with that large mallet…

For LE-the-Creator, it’s their character Veggie Sprigwort. A very neat character design for a plant person! I was worried it would be hard to draw her well, but it ended up coming together a lot smoother than I thought. Maybe I’m becoming an artist after all…

For RakkuGuy, it’s his little kobold character Coal! She’s becoming an aspiring hero in a webcomic series, “Monsters Can Be Heroes Too!” This look mostly pulls from the more recent artwork I’ve seen, including a tattered yet stylish cape.

For CosmicCartoons, it’s the Ceryvian known as Demi. Here he seems to be struggling with a strange puzzle originating from Earth. This alien species wouldn’t be too out of place in the “Last Soldier” universe, though I don’t know how often they and the Teijru would interact.

This one is for – and featuring – Chaz Serir. If you ever wondered what possessed me to make various alien characters over the last few years, this is who inspired that. Now you may be asking, “What is going on here?” And my response is “That is correct.”

Oh hey, these are my characters! The two Tokarus, Sketch Tucker and Heather Britannia, are holding onto each other as they travel to other universes. Perhaps the characters we saw are some of the folks they met along the way. Who knows?

This ended up being quite the undertaking. I'm not confident that I'll ever make this many images for a holiday again. Either way, I hope everyone likes them, and that everyone have a Happy Holidays!

Here is Stephano, another character made by NS-Games. I experimented with the design a bit in this image – the eye area has white fur, and I gave him the Big Pant with a nifty pattern along the outer legs. I wonder what he’s drawing on that tablet…

He makes some things under the name of “Deyem Productions.” I ended up sketching a logo design concept for the “Deyem” name. It’s not the first time I looked into it, but I thought this was an intriguing avenue to explore…
