End of next week, be prepared for fright night photos. There is a very high chance of me going to Thorpe park!
And I need maze recommendations because everything that I've seen has been all mixed reviews...

I'm legally a part of a scaremaze now!
Genuinely, I've been wanting to be referenced in a maze or just on park in general since my first ever Fright Nights so being able to have this is a massive milestone kind of honour to me.

What an amazing trip to Thorpe Park Fright Nights we had yesterday!
We managed to get majority of rides, all 4 scare mazes and scare zones done. We even managed a night ride on Stealth and of course Hyperia!
3 of us went into the scare mazes. Returning were Stitches, Trailers and Survival Games and then a brand new one for 2024 Dead Beat. We all agreed that Survival Games was definitely the best this year so much so we went in a few times! Personally I thought Dead Beat wasn’t as good as others had said but we still enjoyed it.
For scare zones…. Still hands down the crows win! Still my favourite scare zone Thorpe park has to offer
All in all a great trip

having now watched the teaser and currently watching silkstone talk through it, i have more to say.
the concept they keep playing on of 'fear and his disciples' is... fine. it's not particularly compelling to me personally, but it's a good way of ka linking their campaigns together. the locksmith and fear had very similar looks, and this year's 'disciple', the toymaker, is a very strong departure from that. i don't dislike the vibe, in fact i love the idea of the toys as the new maze theme and i'm very excited to see what they come up with.
the new maze is massive. the space outside cantina is a very large and very important one for tpfn, always has been, and the marquee that has been constructed is, without question, huge. let me speculate first about what this new maze is going to be like, then we'll talk about the teaser a little more. i can't see the tp team going with 2/3 mazes being free flow, and since it would be insane for survival games not to return (both from a logistics and a marketing standpoint, because survival games is bloody amazing, and a huge investment which i predict will live longer than most mazes due to the redo factor it has - because of that free flow element) this maze will (likely) not follow that structure. however, because this space is absolutely huge, this calls into question: how long will this maze actually be? and moreover - how will it actually be structured? a combination of hallways and rooms would make sense to fill this space, similar to the structure of trailers, but since trailers does follow this structure, i wonder if they will do this again? thorpe themselves just said - literally as i was writing this - that this maze will be 'very different' to survival games. so in my mind, that rules out the idea of free flow. i imagine, knowing thorpe and their maze style, that you as the one experiencing the maze, the story will be something like this: the toymaker turns people into toys in a variety of fucked up ways, i assume you'll probably see these in the beginning of the maze, and then the vibe will be - and you're next! oh no! better get out! this does lend itself very well to the idea of the 'rooms and hallways' style of maze, as opposed to the 'lots of hallways and tight and spaces' type of maze. in case you're confused about the difference, i'd call trailers at tpfn 'rooms and hallways', and ash hell penitentiary from xtreme scream is more of a 'corridor maze' - not that either are bad, but the vibe i'm expecting from the toymaker maze is more room and hallway. were they hoping to save budget, potentially they could just do a series of rooms with not much tight space connecting them. however, this seems lazy of thorpe, and I can't imagine it.
now we've touched on the maze, let's talk teasers. if you read my last post, tpr have now confirmed there are 7 teasers launching over the next 7 days - meaning there's either: a) no roaming team, b) no show, or c) only two scare zones. i could see a case for option a or option c, but removing birthday bash this year with the toymaker theme tying so heavily into it seems like a folly that tp would not make. i suspected they were going to go down the one a day route since, yknow, it's literally almost september, and as we've established, they have other things to do. im suspecting that tomorrow will be doors or birthday bash, then whichever doesn't get announced tomorrow will be saturday, then crows, trailers, survival games, and then we hit new ground. i can only imagine the final teaser will be for the new maze, but what do i know? they could drop it tomorrow and then weave the rest of the announcements in, since they've gone more specific with their overarching theme this year.
if i may get even more specific - let's dive into the toymaker teaser itself. 'howell's toy emporium' is showing up immediately, and this isn't a character i've ever heard of in my (substantial) tp lore research. so this puts me off the idea that whoever is in charge of this twisted toy factory is someone we already know. this is nice, but a bit of a shame to see them departing from the characters we already know. as much as i love KA and their work, i have noticed that, under their command, the intricacies of tpr lore seem to have faded a little, and standalone stories are much more common. this may also be due to steph leaving the creative direction team, or maybe i'm just reading too much into things. tp have done this a lot before and it's something you have to do if you want to keep your events interesting, but lots of stories from the past at least have some link to the island. though, i suppose, there's an argument that this just enriches the scape of the island further - there is industry here beyond the lumber trade and the one-off businesses we already know, like the cinema (trailers) and the ghost tour business (platform 15).
i'm interested to see how 'mr clappy' ties into all this. the bear makes lots of appearances in the trailer, and, being the carnival teaser, he must be important somehow, though i'm drawing a complete blank on how the bear itself could actually play a big part in the maze. there's a 100% possibility that i'm wrong about the story direction, but that's the vibe i'm getting based off this teaser alone and my preexisting knowledge about how thorpe make mazes.
i'm excited to see how they pan this out - and how they balance this with oktoberfest marketing - and i'm sure updates will come as the teasers do. ka are great at dropping hints, though with things like trailers and the crows, it might prove difficult to give much insight into the new things. as another aside - i've lost all hope for the buckwheats returning this year. i knew it was a strong possibility, but i had some small hope for unchained to return this year just to give us an insight into how they'd feel about their home actually being destroyed now exodus construction has started.
this is all just my speculation, so feel free to disagree with me in the replies, but that's what i think. see you tomorrow at 7 for more - if there is any more to say.

so like I didn't go on hyperia in the end [fast track related stuff, I hate queuing and it wasn't on fast track] but I went on every other rollercoaster [unless you count walking dead ride, I am too scared of jumpscares tbh which is funny cuz I went in the middle of fright nights, which sadly I didn't see much of except some people in costumes and I didn't get jumpscared], even stealth which I used to be scared of
I also fell in love with swarm, so much I got a plushie to remind myself of him! the plushies name is Charles
so yeah!! thorpe park was AMAZING and I would definitely love to return :3

Fright Nights
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/Wny8t5J by vheartcn (vanssjj) Nick was pretty sure the person he ran into wasn’t a guest, but another actor. “I’m so sorry. Are you okay?” the guy said, his voice rough, probably because of all the high-pitched noises his job required him to make for hours on end. “Y-yeah, I think so,” Nick mumbled. Before he could say anything else, the guy walked them both backwards a little and dragged him behind a curtain in an empty corner. “We were in the way,” he explained. Nick was about to thank him and beg him to show him the exit when a flash of glowing red light illuminated the guy’s face. Nick’s eyes widened. “Charlie Spring?” He sputtered instead, in shock. ☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚☾ ⋆*・゚:⋆*・゚☾ Or: Nick spends the Halloween weekend in Thorpe Park with Tara and Darcy. Surely nothing happens when he finds out that one of the scare actors working in the scare maze they drag him into is none other than Charlie Spring, his university crush. He isn’t a fan of horror, after all. Or is he? Well, now that we know the Fright Nights Lineup I guess it's time for me to get cracking on that official prompts list eh? Though while you wait, here's a fun poll to keep you engaged. Sorry if you don't know these lot, I chose rides from Merlin UK parks for simplicity.

Now, let me tell you that I have never seen someone become so attatched to a design of mine in such a short span of time until Survival Games here.
But before we discuss the lucky bugger, let's discuss the ideas. I took inspo from our lovely Yvel Assasins for this one, decked out in a red and black military vest {or an attempt at one}, black cuffed jeans and the best off-white shirt you could ever wear to a death-game. That mask they carry too, fully customisable with the right coding know-how, though it seems to only be capable of blue and red designs, maybe it's a colour preference or a fault with the model?
And finally the Species choice... Porcupines are dangerous and can impale you if you're not careful :)
Unfortunately for anyone eying this design up, it's already on hold for @cherrykitkat who while I was making them more or less offered up their soul for this thing.
Thanks Kit, you have a problem /j

5am time to think abt stealth at thorbe parg
n my relationship wit rollercoasters
gonna be going on the 26th & like. so at thorpe i now only have 2 rides left til I've done em all(stealth n colossus)
i think my last visit to towers which was. 3 days straight got me a bit more okay with lift hills(hate the anticipation, family had to peer pressure me onto oblivion...but i did smiler abt 3 times that weekend? that one especially helped get me used to vertical lifts, i remember my first time riding saw i absolutely HATED the lift)
and once again a thanks to towers for getting me more alright with launches. dug into the depths of my memory to realise my first ever coaster was xpress at walibi holland(a launch), but back then i. absolutely hated it. eyes closed actually crying the whole time(tho i did get a taste of adrenaline...the little junkie in me had not yet hatched however) but yeah rita was my most recent memory with a launch and i gotta say. i like it
with exodus happening i want to use this yr to get myself a lot more comfortable with heights, which leads me to my next obstacle. we all (don't) know my long, long, years long feud with nemesis inferno...
I used to be utterly terrified of rollercoasters, if this post wasn't clear evidence enough. slow lift hills, heights, the speed, the unknown...they were an utterly horrendous idea to me - I'll happily stay secure on the floor thanks, catch me on flying fish at most. But I really wanted to change that due to my love of the theming & just. how fun they looked from pov videos.
so my first proper time at thorpe, i almost went on nemesis inferno. accompanied a friend who had RAP, got to the station and chickened out.
second time i think i would've done it, but one of my friends chickened and i joined him
subsequent trips i remember happily wandering the park and chilling with flying fish. i was just happy with the atmosphere
nemesis inferno didn't cross my mind again for a while, i was getting more into parks but just didn't think to tackle it. met Spirit in person, rode SAW and Swarm for the first time, unfortunately Trailers and BML put me off of Stealth though.
Last year, went with Spirit yet again. Had to get there by train(alone for the first time) & then met up wit spirit & we had to get rail replacement for the remainder of the journey. It was understandably stressful, and for our first ride i believe we did Rush
the acrophobia kicked in, paired with the stress of the journey there...i couldn't bring myself to do much more. i don't know if i was overwhelmed or just..not feeling great in general, but alas. Spirit of course still did SAW, i wasn't gonna get in the way of her having a good day, but we spent most of that day doing TWD(solid ride, but spirit has a nasty habit of responding to the preshow and. it was adorable but i also just got a bit sick of doing the same ride all day + it closed half way through anyway. fright night things) & rumba.
Don't remember if it was before or after we did Survival Games(best maze of the 3 I've done btw. absolutely fucking brilliant), but eventually i said fuck it. I don't wanna leave this park having not done at least ONE big ride
Our eyes locked on nemesis inferno. my arch nemesis for the past couple years. i had sat in its seat before, but never left that station.
and we did it! i screamed so much spirit thought i wasn't enjoying myself but i was having the time of my life!
(it absolutely helped that she had RAP, absolutely wonderful system & i made sure to secure a pass for myself,, so many rides I've ridden that i wouldn't've before just due to the queues giving me far too long to overthink,,)
but alas, I've won that fight but not quite the war. I've done nemferno, saw, swarm, the entire big 7...but I've yet to conquer stealth or colossus
colossus? I'm sure it'll be a (potentially headachey) breeze. lift hills are down, and once we're done with it it's swirly sailing from there
stealth? has no lift hill. you're in the station. you sit, get safe and secure. focused entirely on not inhaling at the launch because oh you will regret the chest pain(i learned that with rita...).
soon you'll be hurtling towards the sky before you can say "oh god what the fuck did i do that set me on this path?? which deity did i anger?"
i would be a straight up liar to say I'm not scared. I used to hate lift hills, but I've come to appreciate the gentle enough ease into the drop. The time to chillax before the thrill.
But i know the hardest part will be getting me in that seat, and once I'm past the point of no return, all i can do is enjoy it, comforted by the fact that This Ride is Perfectly Safe(wrong ride hold on-)
Stealth is Spirit's favourite ride at Thorpe. Fun fact.
it's one of the only ones i haven't ridden
but by fuck, i WILL ride the last two on my list and i WILL conquer my acrophobia by the time exodus opens. even if we don't win the ballot, we'll still want to ride it and i will not wuss out again
late new year's resolution? sure
long ass post to kill time and stave off some of the off-season blues. i just have a lot on my mind rn n wanted to share my fun little relationship with. rollercoasters & anxiety =]
feel free to like. send me asks n stuff abt the topic btw!! i wanna interact with the funny little guys i see in my tumblr notifs hehehe

@drrutherford + Felix Where: Thorpe Park, Fright Night
"Surprise!" She grinned, when the driver let them out at the gate. "Listen, Lix will be picked up when the really scary things start, if he really wants to, but otherwise - we have the day to ourselves."
Out of her bag, Adri pulled out some funny headbands for all of them and moved both of the boys toward the entrance. She got the idea quickly after Gid mentioned he was going to be staying with him, hence she knew they had to do this. Not that Felix was getting old enough to go on most of the rides.
As she leaned towards her nephew, she loudly whispered "You think Dad is going to be a scaredy cat and just skip all the rides? Wanna make a bet?" A laugh escaped her as they moved forward into the crowds.

The theme parks, thorpe park, fright nights and somehow the Twenty One Pilots friend. Had someone actively ping me to ask why all the other albums got tape put on 'em in their images on spotify and shit.
what’s your ‘thing’ as a friend. i don’t mean like ‘oh im the mom friend’ i mean like what’s the Thing where if one of your friends was looking for a specific interaction they’d message you first. personally i can always be relied upon to get hyped about bugs, literature, and cursed internet images.
