Im not joking when i say this whole post was inspired after seen @//purple-raspberries “the mailman” drawing because O MY STARS WHAT IS THAT DRAWINgGGGGGG /pos

Okay so anyway, whats up with Eddie Dear? As, like, an active character of Welcome Home?

Something rubs me in the wrong way when it comes to him as a whole, not that I dislike him, pretty… much the opposite (thats why I'm making this post) actually, but I feel he is more relevant to the lore than what ppl give him credit for.

Even way before the past-year (2023) Halloween and Homewarming updates, I felt that he must simply be more than what is presented to us about him:

- He is the only character who sees all the rest of the neighbours every day due to his work

- He is one of the few if not the only one who is confirmed to be from outside of Home

- He brings one of the TWO functional clocks in all of Home (which could well be due to the nature of his work, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it's curious)

And I know, ik, this is not a lot. In fact, I believe this is not crucial info, but I want to mention it because it gives, in some way, a certain statement: Eddie Dear is not like everyone else. It differentiates him from the others.

There's simply something intriguing about him; and I constantly think about how, again, he's the resident who interacts most with his neighbors, the most helpful and willing to do anything, and despite that, he's the one who gets the most hits?

Hes always in a rush because he likes helping others, he's clumsy and yet he does his job in a stellar way and yet he goes the more underappreciated by his neighbors and its the first one to get to have his own personal breakdown during the Homewarming

Keep in mind, I don't mean that the other characters are bad or smth, we all know that inside they care for each other and are a pretty nice neighborhood-

But yea, starting with the most obvious, Howdy and Sally are downright condescending, bordering on rude to him. Howdy ignores him or pays half attention when he goes to deliver merchandise to the Bugdega and tries to start a conversation, and despite this, we can see that Howdy asks him for help to deliver things to someone else.

More specifically, during a hidden audio, we can hear that he uses Eddie to deliver an order of bowling balls to Julie DESPITE Howdy having a home delivery system and probably being able to better handle the weight of the merchandise, being at least two heads taller than Eddie, right when Eddie had just told him he had a very tiring day (of course he didn't hear that)

Sally, on her side, is condescending to him to the degree that when we hear them interacting, at least until now, it's mostly her giving him orders. Heck, Sally has a "long name" for every resident EXCEPT Eddie, whom she usually just calls "Mailman" for everything.

Julie and Frank tend to be more passive about it, but it doesn't take away from the fact that they also end up... taking advantage a bit? Or leaving him a bit aside. I know, I know, we all ship FranklyDear here, but it still bothers me how during "Eddie's big lift" (+ another hidden audio) we're shown how Julie tends to involve him in her games without much consideration as to whether Eddie even understands them to begin with, and Frank, despite acknowledging that he works hard and often overworks for everyone, leaves him lying on the ground. They don't even wait for him to get up to say goodbye properly, they just leave him there and go home. It's a bit sad to hear how Eddie talks to himself while getting up and dusting himself off.

And finally, one that I understand is a joke but serves as a transition to my next point: Barnaby and his constant gag of chasing Eddie around the neighborhood as soon as he sees him making his deliveries, or insisting that Eddie lifts him up because “he's just a puppy”. I won't delve into this (not now) because I know that overall that's Barnaby's way of joking; Eddie is not his only victim, but when you mix it with everything said above, it gives off some weird vibes.

It's as if Eddie was the typical "punching bag" character of the show's creators; you know, the one created so that the fun we get from him is at his expense, and sadly, somehow that fact makes sense to me as to why he's the first to have a "breakdown" during Homewarming and said breakdown has to do with, what else? his isolation and probable sadness.

During Sally's history and Poppy's confinement in her own house, there were two predominant themes: what happens when we're in the dark, what lurks in the shadows and whatnot, and isolation: Sally talks about this but Poppy experiences it first hand; shes alone and in the dark, house bricked to the top. However, Eddie gets overwhelmed despite being surrounded by everyone and, clearly, in a lit environment.

My opinion? Said loneliness and darkness don't necessarily need to be tangible, and in Eddie's case, they come from a mental place. My dear doesn't seem to have too much appreciation for himself, constantly letting people get the help they want (need, of course) from him at the cost of his own well-being. Eddie Dear is not happy, in fact, I feel he puts himself down a bit, which equates to darkness, and when he can distract himself from this fact again, Home reminds him; and his loneliness comes in a literal-but-not way. Eddie is never alone, that's evident, but again, in the Homewarming video we're not only emphasized that he's upset and confused because no one has asked him for help, but because he DOESN'T KNOW how to handle his own activities outside of work. Anything that doesn't have to do with the post office but is more personal overwhelms him because he's not used to thinking outside of how he should help others because that's his "only" way of interacting with them. Eddie needs to be needed in order to be closer to others, and when that's not the case, it frustrates him so much that it even seems like anger.

Heck, it's even sad how Sally mentions that nobody bothered him with the usual tasks they would require him for to give him a day off, and then downright nobody interacted with him. Not even Julie called him to play. When Sally finds him under Home's tree, she asks him to escort her to Home for the Homewarming and it's narrated that they're the last to arrive, but if Eddie hadn't left his house then... what? Would he have stayed there? (Lowkey I theorize that he wouldn't have, because of the fact that Sally and Frank seem to have more awareness than the others, I feel like she was actually waiting for him)

Personally, I consider that when it comes to a case like Eddie's, it's even worse, because you don't need to be actively in a closed and dark place, isolated (in what voluntary situation would someone have to be like that?) for your head to go completely to shit. Think about it, you make Home angry and he doesn't need the rest of the neighbors to build a wall around you. It does what you already do well: it locks you up with your thoughts and leaves you there.

So,,, uh, yeah, I don't know how to end this.

I admit i didnt believe in birthdaygate/memorygate for a long time but after recent events with the st writers twitter i'm starting to believe, and after looking further into how it could be plot relevant i cant believe i never realised how important the shed scene is. like omfg its been right there the whole time???? vecna knows all of wills happiest memories???? ofc he is going to use them to his advantage somehow

Yeah, I guess we'll see in Season 5 whether there's any kind of valid thread here (I'm personally on the fence with the whole thing, and just spitballing and having fun with it)

So far it's been established that Vecna "consumes" the thoughts and memories of the people he kills. They're kept in his mindscape. Everything that made them who they are as a person. And that's going to be an important plot point, especially surrounding Max in S5, imo.

But Vecna didn't kill any of the people present during the shed scene, so how can he do anything with their memories? Well, we know Vecna has the power to view memories without killing someone, but maybe he can actively manipulate/consume them without killing someone too. As in, it's not something he normally does (because why would he need to) but it's something he's capable of doing if he wanted. And Will is different from all of his other victims (save perhaps Billy). For some reason, he doesn't want to kill Will. He wants to play with him, possess his body, or potentially wants to win him over for reasons we don't know yet. We see El explore some of Billy's memories in S3, and Max's in S4. She's not possessing them, she's just able to enter their mindscapes and explore memories whilst she's in there. So we know that both El and Vecna have that power, it's a lab-kid thing that they can do. But Vecna also has this weird connection with time. So could he effectively alter memories and 'change the past', in a sense? Vecna's spent many hours levitating in the Creel House attic room, moving his consciousness from person to person and reading everyone in Hawkins like books. Watching them. Hearing everything. We visually see how it works in S4, just briefly before Vecna chooses Patrick as his next victim. So after Joyce, Jonathan and Mike tell Vecna what Will's happiest memories are (oops), maybe Vecna goes on to locate those exact memories and fuck around with them. And it's not just that those memories are Will's happiest memories - it's that Will's birthday and the rainbow ship drawing were most important to Joyce, it's building Castle Byers that was most important to Jonathan, it was playing D&D and first meeting Will that was most important to Mike.

I don't think it'd be one big event where Joyce, Jonathan and Mike all got simultaneous headaches one day, to be revealed in S5. But it could be a background scheme that Vecna's been slowly working on ever since the end of S2 after El sealed the gate.

Which is why as soon as we start S3, it's like Will has started to... fade? He's slowly being overlooked and forgotten. By S4, Will's birthday doesn't exist, Jonathan is distant and caught up in his own shit, and Mike seems to think his first real important connection with anyone was meeting El in the woods. There are still maaaany plotholes and questions with this theory, so I'm keeping a very open mind with it <3

frost queen couldn't send them home because she was immediately disgusted at what she had done vis a vis the flow of nature

so she turns into a vampire about a year into this when sherbet gets sloppy (you cant blame him he's basically a zombie at this point)

and she starts to feed off of sheep, and when people realise, she starts to feed off them too!!!

and then in one timeline there's a witch hunt that results in her and sherbet being burnt to death along with the house, and in another she succeeds in turning the whole village into vampires looking for unsuspecting travellers to consume! yahoo :)

and mlp does have a tendency to give clues that her and him are gonna hang out, especially when she posted that butterfly and the word "soon…" so, it ain't much more obvious than that. and i truly believe she contacts her fans in these gcs and let's them know that they're gonna hang out. bc otherwise, her fans are psychic and they can just feel a shift in the matrix when those two are gonna hang lol

I can't figure out if I did anything wrong, or if so, what, because I honestly have no idea what's going on. Hopefully someone here can give me a clue. Here's the relevant info, as far as I know.

My brother and his wife are expecting their first girl after two boys. I love Ricky and Jace, and so does my SIL, but she has always wanted a girl and is very excited to be having one. She also wants to name the girl Chloe, as she loves that name. My brother hates the name Chloe and really wants to name their daughter Stephanie. They have been arguing about it for a few weeks, since finding out the gender.

I got to my parents house late last night and my SIL was the only person still awake. We talked for a little bit, and she asked me the weirdest question. She asked me if I knew any stories about great aunt Stephanie. I was so confused. I literally said "who?"

SIL clarified that she was talking about our grandmother's older sister that died when grandma was a little girl. Our grandma had two sisters, but their names were Judy and Lynn. There's no one in our family named Stephanie, as far as I know. I told as much to my SIL. She changed the subject after that, and we soon went to bed.

This morning my brother and his wife were both sulking during breakfast. Even the kids could tell. Ricky kept saying "stop being grumpy on Christmas." So it wasn't just my imagination. I got my brother alone and confronted him. He snapped at me for "meddling" and told me to stay out of his marriage.

My brother is pissed at me, and my SIL won't even talk to me. I'm afraid to say anything to my parents and drag them into this, especially since I still don't know what this is. Either my grandmother had a secret sister that I don't know about but my brother does for some reason, or my brother lied to his wife to convince her to name their baby Stephanie. Both options seem equally weird to me. Maybe there's a third possibility I'm not seeing?

Reddit, am I the asshole? If so, please explain to me why. I don't want to be the reason Christmas is ruined.

Update: Most awkward Christmas Eve dinner ever. Gotta keep this short; lots going on. Everyone now knows what my brother was doing with the kids names(except the kids obviously). They are pissed. Weirdly my mom is the most pissed. A Christmas truce is in place for the kids, so no fighting on the holiday. However the baby is definitely going to be named Chloe. My brother very quickly backed down when my mom said some few choice words to him. The topic is completely banned for the rest of festivities, so, for now at least, they've tied a bow on the situation.

Image 4: Christmas morning update: Aside from some glaring over a couple of the boy's stocking stuffers (Robin Funko pops) everything went well with the gift opening (as well as being woken up at 5:30 AM by being jumped on by one's nephews can). I think my brother realizes he crossed a line and has been very attentive to his wife. He mentioned getting Chloe's name embroidered on some stuff when they get home. He even told mom he would do the Christmas breakfast so she could have a break and he gave me an "I'm sorry" grin when I opened his gift. I think everything is going to be fine.

fe3h update! well i just finished my first playthrough and i am just sitting here.... the second to last battle was SO hard for me and it was definitely made harder by the fact that i like. played it weird. bc i thought if i just completely avoided her i wouldn't have to kill mercedes so i took all my units on a really weird path and then once i finally killed everyone else turns out. i still had to kill her.

i managed to get to a support between byleth and all of the eagles except linhardt (still mad about that.... i wanted to get the whole set </3), as well as marianne, sylvain, ingrid, and felix (who yeah, i did end up recruiting).

as for my ranking of the eagles... it's really tough to pick! it's closer to tiers for me, bc some of these characters are so close to each other in my ranking. i'd probably go... dorothea, caspar, bernie/hubie/edie, petra, ferdie, linhardt. dorothea and caspar are probably my absolute favorites now. and because of that, i think they're gonna be the eagles i recruit on my VW playthrough (and maybe. all subsequent playthroughs too LMAO) . from the lions, i think i'm gonna take sylvain again bc he's easy to get and he grew on me, as well as mercedes. mighttt also recruit annette and maybe ashe? i barely interacted with them the first time around but i hear ashe is interesting in VW and annette has supports with claude, but i'm also trying to limit myself here lmao. i'm probably not gonna try to recruit both of them, if i even recruit one.

anyway! i'm genuinely sooo excited for claude.... also since i enjoyed marianne so much, i'm excited for her to be like.. more relevant LMAO.

i'm also gonna look into how to like... successfully build my guys this time around because i have a feeling i was NOTTT doing it well at all. which like... i don't need to have the best builds in the world or anything, as long as i'm having fun i don't need to be doing things "right", but like. i think i could maybe be having a bit more fun if i. knew what i was doing lol.

MERCEDES..... ooohhh i love her oh so much. she would def be a good choice. good luck limiting yourself btw dfgkdnfg annette and ashe are very good very goodd. im not particularly attached to them as ive talked abt before but theyre both very sweet characters. and have a lot of substance to them. plus their family situations and whatnot are very sad. so yeah! recruiting any of the blue lions to learn more abt them would be a good thing to do! esp if you didnt interact w/ them much in CF

Hihii, how can I deal with anxiety while manifesting? Its like that I am keeping good and then I get triggered by the 3d and anxiety hits me, I try to calm and affirm but I just cant stop getting scared that how I feel will manifest and makes it a bit hard to focus my mind into the affirmations. 🤍

Hiii so i have rules for asks you kinda didn’t follow them I’d say. I wouldn’t answer this ask normally because i talk about how to deal with the 3D in everyone of my posts and asks tbh but I’ll say it again since i have time rn.

Okay so you’re reacting to the 3D. That’s why you’re anxious.

But there is no reason to feel anxious because:

• The things you hear and see in your 3D that contradict your manifestation/ assumptions don’t exist in your 4D. Therefore they aren’t real or relevant because only the things in your 4D will materialise in 3D and 3D will get rid of the things that contradict your assumptions. WITH PERSISTENCE.

(This also means that if you see proof in your environment of you not being able to manifest its not true it will fade and youll get proof of what you want soon)

• Your subconscious mind does not have eyes. She only manifests what YOU think about. She doesn’t know about what’s happening in your 3D unless you start thinking about it.

(This means that your subconscious doesn’t know about your struggles irl unless you focus on them-> to change your focus start flipping your thoughts and applying a method like affirming)

• Your subconscious instantly absorbs affirmations like a sponge. With only one affirmation it’s already done in your 4D. With persistence it materialises in your 3D. (This means that you can change that believes instantly because once it’s in 4D, your 3D instantly starts to change)

And also your problem is that you’re affirming to see something in your reality. You’re not affirming to remind yourself that you already have it. Big mistake.

You think you have it -> proof of you having it in 3D

You think you don’t have it -> proof of you not having it in 3D

when i made the post i was referencing when ive said stuff abt kilgharrah revealing that hes dying playing a big part in merlin losing his shit (this post) but i didnt think abt it happening earlier in the series this is feeding my ideas ill save this then update it with my thoughts later once i sort them

ok its later im off that fucking farm (actually it was amazing there was a cat that i befriended and we took a nap together and i understood him so well bc he rly liked having his face rubbed and it was just like me when i autism)

so the things that im thinking rn are that merlin was already losing his fucking shit cuz everyone was dying then kilgharrah revealed that hes gonna die soon and that was simply so much i firmly believe it had a very big effect on merlin

theres a certain feeling i need to portray of the way that merlin protects arthur and i dont rly know how to describe it so that anyone but me could understand i think the best way to say it is that merlin has lost the good pure i love you and ill tell u that one day but conditions arent good enough yet love and is now on the bad corrupt obsessed i have killed for u so many times i love u so much and u can never know love and he protects arthur kind of out of habit and a lot out of keeping him alive until merlin can reveal his magic and he can be fucking free and i say habit bc he doesnt rly believe that much that hes actually ever gonna be free he just remembers when he used to and goes with that so when he gets all bloody he remembers how bad he wanted to be free before

anyway this is relevant bc im realizing rn that kilgharrah is a huge HUGE part of this timeline bc he tells merlin abt the prophecy and i also firmly believe that when merlin freed him not only did he feel bad abt being the reason camelot was almost destroyed and learn abt being a dragonlord then watched his dad die i think that when he freed kilgharrah he thinks abt how bad he wants to be free and its kinda just a small thing in the back of his head till his dad dies and hes like holy shit this never wouldve happened if id been allowed to exist then this thought sparks the going fucking crazy bc he wants to be free arc and it combines with the going fucking crazy bc ppl keep dying arc which starts a lil after that and when kilgharrah mentions that hes dying these arcs kinda have a moment bc their dynamic is strange hold on i need to explain it in another paragraph for myself so i can understand what the actual fuck im tryina say

so at the beginning merlin thinks its so cool that he has this great destiny so him and kilgharrah are besties then theres the thing that kilgharrah does i forgot what it is where theyre beefing for a bit but then merlin needs somebody and kilgharrahs been the only one in the past to actually be able to help so he has to go to him even tho hes pissed off abt it and this is how they are the whole time bc kilgharrah talks shit abt the ppl merlin like then he ends up being right then theres the whole thing with him terrorizing camelot but merlin cant be mad bc that mf was hunted then enslaved for years and the terrorizing of camelot is the reason merlin knows more abt who he is now so basically their whole thing is im gonna come to u for advice be upset abt what u have to say then be even more upset when u were totally fucking right kilgharrah literally is merlins gay bestie that always knows everything abt how to get that man and which ones to not go for

i also think kilgharrah is a physical representation of all the shit merlin internalizes idrk how to explain that ill update if i figure it out but its the core of their lil love/hate

ok back on topic tho bc kilgharrah had so much influence over the whole story in the way that if he had or hadnt said certain things at certain times things wouldve changed but theres also how would merlin have processed his death at certain times on the timeline like if kilgharrah died a lil before merlin met mordred again would merlin have remembered his dead friend and in his grief been like hm that stanky mf was always right maybe i should just fucking kill this dude right here right now then mordreds too dead to kill arthur and its happily ever after or if kilgharrah died at any point from season 3 on but while merlins beefing with him would merlin feel bad bc thats still his friend and he died while they were on bad terms so he goes and fixes all the problems kilgharrah told him abt that he promptly ignored bc he didnt wanna kill his friends like theres so many possibilities in so many ways

Fucking roxanne: Stupid svu homicide detective wanna be cult leading psycho stalking gaslight gatekeep girlboss ass bitch got what she deserved. Finally.

Idk that bitch that was supposed to be president but fell out of a plane: A lot of what made her unlikeable was her politics she was the walking conspiracy redneck dont let them steal our jobs ass bitch however what really makes her unlikeable is her hubris. even during an organized coup where they are actively asking and threatening to kill the president she wouldn't just sit there and shut up. like she had to follow around and beg for the very soldiers that were trying to dismantle the government to take her seriously and then she died like damn

Presidents wife: I dont even remember her name shes just not very relevant to me. Her story was heartbreaking and sad to watch though so i cant say im completely apathetic to her

presidents daughter: her storyline is one of the more interesting ones to watch true but shes not ver likeable obviously. Shes too man obsessed to really be of any use to anyone but she lost her entire family over the span of the show so i cant really blame her for losing her shit

Byorik’s Girlfriend: That stupid bitch was an anarchist or something idk. then look where that got her. i cant really believe she loved byorick when the first thing she said when she rejected his proposal was how she wanted to see other people

Hero: One hand i feel bad for her one hand I dont. Like she was an asshole I cant lie and say she wasn’t. She was forking a married guy she was like an addict she didnt have a lot going for her and her mom was a total buzzkill most of her life. The way she treated sam was pretty shitty though. I want to be more sympathetic to her falling into the cult of the amazons but I can’t because she had so many chances to not be a fuck up and she was still out there, fucking up.

sam: I dont wanna say sam so soon but I’m gonna say sam. he was defenseless and passive the entire season and while he’s supposed to be one of the more sympathetic characters,, and he had to deal with hero most of the time so i do feel bad for him,, he’s also very self pitying. part of this take is my own biases sure I’ll admit when the first thing sam says after the mandemic™(made it myself haha) was how he didnt have enough testosterone I was like,,, people are dying kim. how the show tackled the isolation and treatment of trans men however was compelling. as for sam the character he himself he was too codependent for most of the season for me to root for him. Following hero around begging hero to stay feeling bad for himself most of the time as if he was the only one with problems. that and he did my girl nora dirty ngl. Like i totally get why he wouldn't trust nora or wanna go off with her to escape the amazonian cult but also, come on man.

Jennifer Brown: she was struggling throughout the entire season I can’t help but feel bad for her. Did she lie? Yes. Did she lie again? yes. Did she lie more? yes. she lied her ass off with her back against the wall because she was trying to keep the country from collapsing. 

Nora: the bitch was angry omg I totally support and respect the deterioration of her sanity tbh. I feel like I’m biased towards her because weren’t a lot of us pushovers in our lives. Whether its quiet, or being victimized, or simply doing all of the work to clean up other peoples messes. Then when push comes to shove when the world literally fucking ends even though you did everything right, gt the job the degree the money the family it all goes to shit again, and you’re left to start over,,, again. She wasn’t just angry she was strategic. she always had the brain she just had to use it. when she burned down that shopping center it was one of my favorite scenes.

Agent 355: Did she have to kill those pilots tho. like really? okokok that aside she is rlly carrying the show with dr.mann and byorick. Her whole blackwidow redroom traumas rlly need to be addressed. and her story arc of vehemently denying help at the risk of her health was soooo hard to watch. Like u dum dum byorick just wanted you to get some sleep?! and now look at u!! u crashed into a tree. the way she and byorick were ON EACHOTHERS NECKS In the first half of the season though. ol girl was exhausted. however  iliked her ever since she told byorick “your father named you after a dead clown”

this bitch had no idea about george fancy’s death being relevant to anything. and im not sure why he underestimated just how GOOD fred thursday was, but maybe he DIDNT and that was the whole point. because box himself isnt evil. hes not a nice guy, sure. but hes not this show’s definition of bad. because every cop is corrupt and basically everyone disrespects women. i think what he saw in fred was someone JUST LIKE HIM. because I think ronnie looks for the black and white in things, and he looks for kinship and familiarity and that old school style of coppering as much as he projects that hes the new school. 

but hes not, is he? he just looks the part. 

as soon as fred gives the money back and walks out the door he KNOWS its fucked up. for him. for fred. and its terrifying for him. we won’t see this man look confident or cocky or sure FOR THE REST OF THE SHOW. he knows he has to go tell whoever it is he has to tell. he knows hes gonna lose another rung in whatever ladder hes climbed with them. because he is just a bitch boy. he’s a smokescreen. HES A PATSY. 

And I think he became that when he figured out just how bad they were. Because he says to fred that you cant get out AND HE KNOWS. they play for keeps AND HE KNOWS. 

But he doesnt know about fancy. and he doesnt know about the drugs. all he knows is hes not important enough, strong enough, BAD ENOUGH to know.

I think that when we meet Box during series 5 (short hair. suit. cocky with mr bright. trying to slap shirley) that he’s at the peak of his confidence with his position. he’s on the take. he’s just gotten over how dirty it makes him feel. hes drinking the coolaid and he thinks a new wave of police control is coming - and it is - but I think after that... perhaps around when hes paired with Jago.. they ask him to do something that he cant do. I think he’s asked to kill someone. Or deal drugs. or WHATEVER and he cant do it. I think they threaten his family. Maybe his mother, on her own, who he’s been trying to prove himself to. His father’s memory he’s trying to salvage and justify. He said no to something and they threatened his life and livelihood and what he held dear.

And now he’s Jago’s beard. he’s jago’s alibi. hes the name on the paperwork. hes the one set up to take all the falls.

So we get into the hair and the clothes. the jewelry. Hes flashier. hes bigger. hes bolder. (*sings*  my makeup may be flaking but my smile still says on.. THE SHOW MUST GO OOOOONNNN)     he knows his place now though. and he listens to people. i mean shit he even cooperates with the cases and listens to morse until morse presses against that ‘enough is enough’ attitude that’s purely 60-70′s policing styles. results vs. thorough investigation. that wasnt even corruption to them. that was how the system worked. 

Box isnt actually surrounded by his peers. he’s surrounded by people who know hes a bitch boy. jago KNOWS he cant kill (and i presume its because he COULDNT when asked). They dont even trust box to know the whole plan. and even if he and jago taken alone are bros.... they both KNOW they are not the same. 

and here comes fred who feels like is on his level. fred who knows the grimey bits and is still a human. FRED WHO BELIEVES IN SECOND CHANCES. so maybe he just wanted a kindred soul. or maybe he knew it was sink or swim and he was looking for a life saver. maybe in some way he knew fred could bring him out of it... maybe not. 

no matter what his motivation was, fred stirred him enough to finally act. to make a move. to do the right thing. to do the only thing that he could, to stop something that he’d never be able to live with. he went from knowing NOTHING for his failures to knowing TOO MUCH and knowing he couldn’t live with that...

idk theres no point to this but thinking about the LAYERS they put into this man in 4 episodes... and it drives me ABSOLUTELY INSANE

everything is so much. everything costs so much. ive been applying to jobs for a fucking year and nothing’s happened. the year before i had a job but i didn’t build up my savings at all for such a fucking broad number of reasons that felt insurmountable BEFORE i broke my leg. ive accepted at this point that the days of meeting my ko-fi goal each month (which never paid anything but my most important bills) are over for now because it’s not like anybody else has spare money to spend and that’s like literally fine i don’t think my artwork is providing that much joy to anyone if im being honest. and i just keep applying and i keep trying to improve my resume and portfolio with skills im gaining using time and money i dont have. and i need to deal with my car and with my hospital debt and i was supposed to get help with that but it just hasnt happened. and honestly thats fine because its my responsibility i should simply have a job already. and it seems impossible to stick to my principles with so little energy and time and money to turn my intentions into actions. and its been a really dry summer on top of everything. that bears relevance to my neglected garden btw. and i just get up each day and ask myself why im depressed and take my meds and work on my to do list and try to believe it’ll start working out once i have enough money each month to work on covering my bills and paying off my debts. and i know things would be different if i stayed in california and finished my degree but im not actually sure i wouldve survived even another week there. so i cant really regret any of the happy and unhappy accidents that got me to where i am. like if i have genuinely been trying my best and i only break down once a month rather than daily then there’s an upside to having seemingly insurmountably negative dollars and no concrete hope that things will improve anytime soon.

all the character arcs revolve around john. and most are half baked!

makee's "character" "arc" is the most outrageous to me. she goes from fundamentally believing the religion she was groomed into, to completely abandoning those ideals when she has sex with one man. she is absolutely on board with defeating the covenant and finding the halo from the unsc point of view until the unsc do something to her that reminds her of her trauma, and then she's immediately back to the covenant. no nuance at all... it would be really interesting to explore her coming to understand that her religion is not the truth, but still maybe finding comfort in it, or a slow build to her getting an alternate point of view. she should not have done a 180 on her character after sex!

kai's character arc, even if its better than makee, still revolves around john's own character arc. she only understands that she's lacking something when john does it, and when she still wants to fight for the unsc, john tells her she's distracted, and no longer fit for combat. what makes john better? is it just because he's god's specialest little boy that makes him immune to Female Hysteria? to feelings and getting overwhelmed on a battlefield?

kwan's storyline has, so far, in the entirety of season 1, absolutely no relevance to the main storyline. the most b-plot of b-plots, despite being presented as an a-plot in the first episodes. i could care about her story if it was part of another show, but because i know its the religious alien killing game the show, i just... cant attach it to the main thing.

were the covenant (and the flood, absent so far) and the unsc and the rebels not enough for this show? did they have to add space nazis to make sure we know who at least 1 group of bad guys are Truly bad? I'm usually not one to complain about a show killing its nazis (in fact, thats good! kill more nazis), but i dont think they needed to be there in the first place. they dont really add any tension because its not connected to anything else...

in fact, im absolutely convinced that they wanted to do either of 2 different stories with this show, couldnt decide on one, and just chose both, without thinking of how it would impact the pacing, or how theyd interact with eachother. they thought so little of it, that it doesnt ever impact the other. as soon as kwan is out of john's sight, john immediately forgets about kwan. she doesn't, but she doesn't outright mention him either, only having him show up during her spiritual training. why? to remind us its the same show?

all the 1st-person pov with the game HUD should have been scrapped before they were even suggested. i dont need to be reminded that im watching a show thats trying very hard to be a video game. the best video game adaptations (namely, arcane in this example) do NOT reference video game layouts or UIs, but simply use the worldbuilding established in the source material to create a story that can stand on its own. reuse the same characters, the same setting, but do not acknowledge in the slightest that it is from a video game, or else you'll break immersion for anyone watching.

the thing about the halo show is i want to forget it as soon as possible but i also cannot stop thinking about how bad it is.
