The prohibition of cannabis started a long time ago. 1911 Governor Eugene Foss of Massachusetts signed the first law prohibiting marijuana in the United States. The law stated that it allowed for search warrants to be issued for the search of “hypnotic drugs” and to arrest and charge those possessing these drugs. Marijuana was one of the targeted drugs of this legislation. And so it begun. #cannabisprohibition #cannabishistory #cannabusiness #cannabisworldwide #SDCFM #sandiegocannabisfarmersmarket Pic by @earthdaymom (at San Diego, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDwUrsYHGN3/?igshid=1f01yqsh7qsi

I think this is the biggest issue in weed culture, even in legalized states. While white user arrest rates have gone down in places like Colorado, people of color who toke are being arrested at higher rates (no pun intended) than ever. White smokers have the ability to raise their voices about this issue and call out the double standard. If one of us isn’t free, then none of us are. #cannabis #weed #weedculture #fucksessions #cannabisprohibition #medicalmarijuana #recreationalmarijuana #freetheweed #racism

Kevin Sabet of Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM, Inc.) Needs Transparency
September 11, 2019 (Tokyo, Japan) - In a previous post we mentioned there are hidden bureaucratic government agencies that do not want to see the legalization of marijuana and were working behind the scenes to keep prohibition of marijuana in place. Well, when we did the post we mentioned that there existed hidden bureaucracies benefitting from the war on drugs, but now we have more proof other quasi government agencies are involved as well.
If you ever want to really discover the character of a man, look deeply at his handling of money. Now place them in positions of government power. And while our readers do, never underestimate the power and influence of greed which will be no different in this coming cannabis industry where everyone wants a piece of the action. Organizations have one purpose: protect private interests. The cannabis industry is no different. If you look at Kevin Sabet’s background, he studied at Oxford which leads us to think he is protecting very wealthy financial/banking interests that stand to lose when marijuana is eventually legalized all across the US. Sabet’s SAM organization receives some of its funding from the Bodman Foundation. This is an interesting foundation that can be traced back to Britain in its earlier days. The Bodman Foundation has come under criticism for its “seminal role in the erosion of Judeo-Christian principles.”
Kevin Sabet Is The Marijuana Movement's Biggest Threat, But Can He Really Stop 'Big Pot'?
(Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM, Inc.) is a non-profit organization based in Alexandria, Virginia, opposed to marijuana legalization and commercialization. Evaluate SAM with an objective view. It comes down to people managing SAM losing their source of revenue when marijuana is fully legalized. It is hard to evaluate marijuana prohibition with an active black market which will never end in the conceivable future especially if prohibition continues as SAM’s co-founder Kevin Sabet supports.

Opinion: The Hypocrisy of Cannabis Prohibition Advocates’ Taxpayer Funding
By DIANE GOLDSTEIN | September 10, 2019

Guest Opinion
Lt. Diane Goldstein (Ret.) is a 21-year veteran of the Redondo Beach Police Department in California. She is the board chair of the Law Enforcement Action Partnership, a group of police, prosecutors, judges, and other criminal justice professionals who advance sensible criminal justice policy solutions. Leafly welcomes op-ed contributions from industry and political leaders on a range of topics related to cannabis.
The New York Chapter of Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM), the prohibitionist organization led by Kevin Sabet, has submitted a request “to keep its funding sources confidential,” as reported in a Sept. 5 Times Union article. As justification, the group cited fears that its donors would be harassed.
It’s about protecting SAM’s own interests and hiding its connections to those with money or power.
As the Times Union noted, New York law requires social welfare organizations that engage in lobbying to disclose their funding sources. A “substantial likelihood” of harm to publicly revealed donors is the only permitted exemption. New York’s Joint Commission on Public Ethics is due to hear SAM’s disclosure exemption request on September 10. [Update, September 10: The commission denied SAM’s request, although SAM has the right to appeal and is “exploring its options,” according to Marijuana Moment.]
According to state disclosure records, SAM spent $84,795 on lobbying against the sensible regulation of cannabis in New York in the first half of 2019.
SAM’s request for donor anonymity claims that it doesn’t receive funding from “faceless deep-pocketed corporate interests” in the “alcohol, tobacco, opioid, or the prison industries…”
Yet the organization’s attempt to avoid transparency is ironic, when SAM has just announced its intention to release a report on industry donations to the marijuana legalization movement.

Pot activist calls for pardons, compensation for those with cannabis convictions
Pot activist calls for pardons, compensation for those with cannabis convictions
With marijuana set to become legal in July, a prominent cannabis activist is calling on the Canadian government to clear the criminal records of those convicted of pot-related offences and to compensate them if they served jail time. "If I was in charge, we would vacate all convictions for any cannabis-related offence of any kind," Dana Larsen told CTV News. "As far as I'm concerned, cannabis prohibition has always been wrong and immoral…They should at least be vacating the convictions for possession and nobody should be disagreeing about that." Larsen said the taxes collected in the first few years after legalization should be put into a fund used to compensate those "who have been harmed by cannabis prohibition." "We could figure out a formula of so many dollars a day for the time you spent in jail," he said. "There' many Canadians alive now who did six months or two years for simple possession of cannabis…The goal is to apologize and acknowledge the harm." Larsen himself was charged in 2016 for trafficking of low-THC cannabis seeds, but was never convicted. On Thursday, Seattle’s Mayor announced she would be asking the courts to vacate misdemeanor possession convictions, citing that having a criminal record was a barrier “to housing, to getting credit, to getting good jobs.” Last month, the city of San Francisco announced it would do the same, though officials in California, which legalized recreational marijuana in January, have said they’ll be considering pardons on a case-by-case basis. Under Canadian law, those who have been convicted of simple possession of up to 30 grams can currently apply to have their conviction pardoned 5 years after their sentence is complete. Ottawa hasn’t ruled out further reforms, but only after legalization is complete. "We do not want to encourage, in any way, people to engage in that behaviour until the law is changed," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in January. “Once the law is changed, we will of course reflect on fairness in a way that is responsible moving forward.” Criminal Defense Lawyer Paul Pearson says marijuana convictions tend to disproportionately affect minorities and the poor. “It makes sense to try and right some of the injustice,” he said. “I think the argument is: we never should have given these people a record in the first place.” Mike Babins, the co-owner of Evergreen Cannabis Society in Vancouver, agrees in principle with the idea of an apology or acknowledgment by the federal government, but says there shouldn’t be an automatic blanket pardon. “I think we have to look at each one on a case-by-case basis and say what was the intent?” Babins explained. “It’s a bit murkier when we talk about people who are trafficking in narcotics … on a commercial scale,” Paul Pearson added. According to statistics from the federal government, 11,970 British Columbians were charged with pot-related offences in 2016 alone. Starting this summer, British Columbians over the age of 19 will be able to legally purchase marijuana through government-run stores or from licensed private retailers. Earlier this week, the province revealed several of the rules that will govern the sale of the drug in B.C., including that recreational marijuana must not be sold in the same stores as alcohol.

To maintain the push for Global Cannabis Legalization. As Cannabis Users, we need to continually share the research and information coming out about this plant. There was ZERO scientific justification for the beginning of Prohibition, only corporate greed and racial segregation. This overwhelming information on Cannabis research can help overthrow the #DEA and further remove its classification from the Controlled Substance Act. When the US changes their mind, other countries will soon follow. We WILL end Prohibition, but its your choice if you want to participate in the War on Drugs. Stand up and fight for what you believe in. #CannabisProhibition #Legalization #overgrowthegovt
