Republican Tate Reeves, the anti-abortion homophobic governor of Mississippi did a Ted "Cancún" Cruz when disaster hit his state.

Hours after tornadoes struck parts of Mississippi, Reeves headed off to a political fundraiser in neighboring Alabama where the cheapest seats ran $5,000 each.

JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves traveled to Alabama for a Republican fundraising event as people in his state were still reeling from back-to-back tornadoes that killed one person, injured dozens and destroyed homes and businesses, and in the midst of lingering power outages from severe thunderstorms. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey and Reeves headlined a Republican Governors Association fundraiser on Monday at the Grand Bohemian Hotel in Birmingham, according to an invitation obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press. Ticket prices ranged from $5,000 for one person to $50,000 for four people.

Reeves is running for re-election next year.

He's already controversial for having belonged to a racist fraternity in the 1990s.

Despite the stereotype, Mississippi is less Republican than many people assume. In 2020, Reeves defeated his Democratic opponent by just 5.08% of the vote. That's why Reeves feels the need to abandon his state in the middle of a disaster to go grubbing for campaign cash.

Ted Cruz is famous for his bizarre priorities and making bad decisions. He wastes time and tax payer money on possibly the most incredibly stupid thing imaginable — limiting the use of pronouns. He has strange relationships with fictional characters; he befriends the Cat in the Hat, but picks a fight with Sesame Street's Big Bird, and a few months later, scolds Elmo too.

And of course there's Cruz's infamous decision to abandon Texans during a severe winter storm, when they were in dire need of help and leadership. 246 Texans died as a result of the storm, most of which froze to death while Cruz was warm on the beach at the most luxurious place in Cancún, Mexico — the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. It's painfully obvious, Ted Cruz doesn't care about Texans.

I haven’t forgotten how he went to Cancun while his home state of Texas was going through a terrible blizzard and he only came back after backlash over him going to Cancun
