was talking abt this with @kowai-kabuki-tanuki the other day but like WHERE are the action items??? Trying to volunteer - like actually volunteer constructively (be it reading to kids or hopping on calls with government officials or showing up to a school board meeting as part of a group or even picking up some litter at the park) is like trying to find a needle in the haystack of endless fundraising and "awareness" campaigns.

I know I'm not the first to notice this but like wow every website i go to the "get involved" tab or page is just different ways to donate or to sign up for email lists that purportedly will tell me about events "in my area" - and those events are almost always fundraising events or like 2 hr rallies or what have you.

Like you don't understand I'm trying to find people who will make school lunches with me to give to kids who have lunch debt. I'm trying to find the thing where we all get to chat together about the best strategies we can deploy to ensure the county doesn't make evictions easier etc.

I'm tired of the campaigning!!!!! Like let's DO something I don't want to uselessly mill around in front of the supreme court feeling angry!! And when i go to the local abortion org and sign up for escort training i uhhh ACTUALLY WANT THEM TO SCHEDULE IT!!!!!!!

Look fundraising is important and awareness is important and they are both necessary arms of any real nonprofit org and I'm not getting down on them - but I also NEED to be able to join an action-based volunteer group that won't require me to give up my job for a year and is also not like. affiliated with a church or smthn.

idk i think there is something to culturally shaming smoking. yes people will smoke for many reasons and a huge part of that is stress relief but smoking impacts other people too. and it often impacts people who have zero choice in the matter, like my mama who had to sit through cross-country road trips inhaling endless amounts of secondhand smoke because her adult relatives refused to open the windows.

there will always be addicts and these people dont deserve to be individually treated like shit but i am 10000% for broadcasting just how disgusting and awful cigarette smoking can be. put the pictures of mouth and throat cancer all over the boxes. billboards of the blackened and shriveled alveoli of lung cancer pts. show the videos of people people with emphysema so bad they cant even finish a sentence without coughing.

hell, when i was in second grade they showed us a video of a lady whose trachea was so destroyed from her chain smoking she had a neck stoma. that's a straight up hole in your neck cut through to the airway. i was eight when i saw that and it gave me nightmares for months but that shit worked.

i really really do believe there is something to this.

Okay but like are there any resources out there about PCOS for nonbinary people?! Or for disabled people? Or people who want to adopt???

The vast overwhelming majority of pcos info is like:

“Oh you beautiful woman female girl who has horrible man making disease that makes you manly, you are afflicted with the man male drug testostepenis and it is so sad, but do not worry! With help and surgery and hormones you might still have a chance to look beautiful (and by beautiful we mean skinny and feminine) and you may even still get to make babies which is definitely something you can and should do! ☺️☺️☺️ we care about female women femininity issues!”

And what very very little info I’ve found on PCOS and trans peeps is like, written from a cis person’s viewpoint and it’s like “Lol why are you complaining, you’ll grow a beard! Isn’t that what you want?”

Like… what about the increased risk of ovarian or cervical cancer?! The increased risk of diabetes and diabetic like symptoms?

Why is the focus 90% on “don’t worry if you take these hormones we can make sure you’ll still have a baby”

That’s so not my concern right now.

Me: both excited but scared for the meeting booked for September 17th that I take a nap to try properly process it.

Also me, fresh from my nap: nervous af so I may try to hide in my drafts.

Once again. I'm one step closer to being cancer free and my emotions of it all has overwhelmed me for the last couple of hours-- so I apologize if I'm not very talkative for the next few hours... the nap helped but I'm both happy ( that the meeting is booked ) but sad ( today was the originally booked hysterectomy and I want this cancer gone so badly ) and I felt like I needed to share it here.

we went for my fave breakfast after getting my fluids at the cancer center bc i could eat scrambled eggs and pancakes the other day since they’re soft foods and didn’t scrape my throat, but since then all the skin(?) on my tongue and the roof of my mouth has come off/is in the process of coming off (very gross, do NOT recommend), so it hurt my mouth too much to eat :( look at my sad little attempt at eating breakfast:

Just watched Half-wit. House let everyone, including his best friend of 20 years, think he was dying so he could get drugs. I want to hit him on the head with a hammer. and also make someone hug him because it seemed like he thought nobody would actually be upset about him 'dying' - again, INCLUDING HIS BEST FRIEND OF 20 YEARS. Babygirl you need sooooo much therapy. Not from me though I don't wanna deal with you. Clearly the writers don't either because they never let him get better they just keep making him more miserable for our entertainment.
