National Lemonade Day

National Lemonade Day is dedicated to the refreshing summer drink. Lemons and sugarcane are both native to India, so it is likely that the modern drink is derived from a drink Indians drank called nimbu pani. Traditional or cloudy lemonade is popular in the United States, and consists of lemons and a sweetener, usually sugar. Pink lemonade adds flavors such as raspberry, strawberry, or other fruits to the mix, and it is rumored it was invented by a man who accidentally dropped cinnamon candies into his lemonade. Another form of lemonade is clear lemonade, which is popular in the United Kingdom, and it is more like a soft drink. It is many times used with beer to make shandy, and as a base for mixed drinks. While lemonade can be healthy because of its vitamin C content, the high level of sweeteners that are used to make it tends to negate its health benefits.

How to Observe

Sit back, relax, and have some lemonade. There are various ways to make your own lemonade, and here is one idea. You could also check around your neighborhood for lemonade stands, as there is a pretty good chance that there will be many set up to celebrate the day. If you have children or grandchildren you could help them set up their own stand. Lemonade Day is a group not directly connected with National Lemonade Day, but they help to get kids involved in starting lemonade stands, with the goal of fostering an entrepreneurial spirit and teaching business acumen. This may be a good day to look into getting your community involved with their programs.

Coffee Crisp

Chocolate bar with alternating wafers and a coffee flavoured candy filling is good (and I say this as someone who dislikes coffee)

Ketchup Chips

Exactly like it says chips with ketchup flavouring (personally I find the vinegar flavouring in them to strong)

Canadian Bacon

Look if you like bacon you'll like this. It's so good, very lean and not nearly as greasy as side/ regular bacon (has a bit of a hammy taste tbh)

Hawaiin Pizza

Everyone knows it, it's Pineapple and Ham Pizza, I regret to inform that it was an invention of Canada

An alcoholic Cocktail made of, Vodka, Clamato (Primarily Tomato Juice and Clam broth with seasoning) hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce. Rim is coated in Celery Salt.

Basically like a bloody Mary but what distinguishes it from that is the Clam Broth.

snack: 1 lemon w the peel - 22 cal (I really like lemons it’s not even an ana thing)

lunch - tofu w sweet and sour sauce - 250 cal

dinner - potato tofu kale curry - 235 cal (!!!)

total - 847 calories

I’m super proud of myself and I also did some Pilates and biking :) didn’t expect to get under 1000 w the donut but ayyy!

National Doughnut Day

November 5 is one of two National Doughnut Days observed by doughnut lovers across the nation. The first Friday in June is the other day doughnuts steal the bakery case spotlight ready to tease their way into white bakery box home!

The history of the doughnut is disputed:

One theory suggests Dutch settlers brought doughnuts to North America much like they brought other traditional American desserts including cookies, apple pie, cream pie and cobbler.

An American, Hanson Gregory, claimed to have invented the ring-shaped doughnut in 1847 while on board a lime-trading ship at the age of 16.  According to Gregory, he punched a hole in the center of dough with the ship’s tin pepper box and later taught the technique to his mother.

Anthropologist Paul R Mullins states the first cookbook mentioning doughnuts was an 1803 English volume which included doughnuts in an appendix of American recipes.

An 1808 short story describing a spread of “fire-cakes and dough-nuts” is the earliest known recorded usage of the term doughnut.

A more commonly cited first written recording of the word is Washington Irving’s reference to doughnuts in 1809 in his History of New York.  He described balls of sweetened dough, fried in hog’s fat and called doughnuts.  Today, these nuts of fried dough are called doughnut holes.

Good fucking Jesus yall I'm gonna explode. My English teacher gave me a triple chocolate cookie because I'm a good student right before lunch, then after I ate lunch, MY SCHOOL WAS SERVING MAPLE STAFFIES AND DONUTS. Obviously, the Canadian in me was attracted by these delicious sugary snacks. I got some and now Jesus Christ my stomach feels like a brick. OH MY GOD MY GUTS ARE GONNA EXPLODE WITH MAPLE. This definitely made up for the fact I don't usually eat breakfast every. Well, today I DID eat breakfast. (I ate like 10 skittles as a "breakfast").
