Obsessed with the idea of married Camney juxtaposed against married Hournite (as they exist in my head because we have very little on screen content and I’ve never read the comics so)
Just Hournite with Beth as a doctor and Rick with a PHD in chemistry, sort of being partners in absolutely everything. You see them in their home and they’re making dinner together, talking through their days, bouncing work ideas off each other, moving practically in sync.
And then you have Courtney who I picture growing up into Leslie Knope with superpowers and her sad art-boy boyfriend/husband. So like the team comes over to Courtney and Cameron’s and Courtney is compressed sunshine moving a million miles an hour like “I was prepping for the leadership conference I’m speaking at this week, and I found this study on group activities to build team cohesion so I started planning a JSA retreat for next month, and over there I was mapping out our strategy for infiltrating that lab, oh and I baked cookies for the meeting” and then she bounces over and opens this side door to Cameron’s home art studio, and he’s just sitting there in silence morosely painting a flower and he slowly looks up and gives a little half smile and says, “it’s a symbol of my love for you”. Not in a ‘Cameron and Courtney aren’t equals’ or ‘he doesn’t help her’ way, just in a sense where they live life at two different speeds and somehow that totally works for them, but also Beth and Rick (and Yolanda) really don’t understand HOW it works for them even though they’re supportive (and Rick only grumbles about Cameron a little).
Rick and Beth do everything together whenever possible. Courtney is constantly moving and taking on new projects and then will just get little texts through the day from her husband like “saw a snail today... effervescent”. But both couples are deliriously happy.

"im freezing, let me steal your warmth" For camney?
The best part about Courtney's suit is that she knows she looks hot in it. The crop top, the booty shorts, her long boots? She's a life-saving fashion icon. Her enemies wish they could match her energy. Sure, in the winter she's a little under-dressed, but slap some beige tights under those shorts and she's got herself a workable solution no matter what Beth says. Besides, her mom got her earmuffs for the really bad weather for Christmas and Cosmo is a thermal emitting staff. It's not like it's all that bad.
Really, she tells herself. It's not that bad. It's not that bad. It's not that bad-
"What's the matter, Court?" Rick sends her an annoyed glance when she doesn't move after they divided up tasks to investigate the chemistry power plant's warehouse set up in an abandoned field not so far away from West Farms.
Beth is by Rick's side, peering at her with concern. Even with the cowl covering most of Beth's face, Courtney can perfectly imagine the brows knitting together. Her knack of sussing out what's the matter with people paired with her mood detector makes her an unstoppable force for truth-confrontation. Helpful when they're dealing with someone they can't trust. Irritating when Courtney's the one Beth is looking at like that. "You're too cold, aren't you?"
Her teeth chatter. She grips onto the staff and glares. If they weren't sneaking around, she'd have just set a bonfire, but that would signal that a bunch of dressed-up teens were trespassing. And they hopefully didn't have anyone to fight just quite yet, so it wasn't like anything was going to get her blood pumping.
"Whatever!" she says, well-aware she can't lie. Cosmo whirrs as she points them off to the freaky looking shed. "Go! Go! Why are you standing here for?"
Rick rolls his eyes. He tugs Beth along by the hand. "C'mon, let's get this over with."
Cameron comes around the corner in a leather jacket, and nothing else. He pulls his hands out of his pockets, dropping them to his sides. "The front seems clear. Beth told me the code so I don't have to break the lock."
"Okay." Courtney sighs, slowly following him back down the trail that leads to that entryway. He glances over his shoulder when Courtney lags behind. "Are you good?"
She laughs. "Yeah! Yep! I'm fine! I'm so good. Look at us! Me, you, together on the JSA..."
He quirks an eyebrow. "Uh...Yeah?"
"Isn't it great?"
"Sure." He smiles at her and she smiles back. "Rick doesn't seem happy about it though."
"Pfft." Courtney waves her hand. "Rick isn't happy about anything. Except dating Beth, I guess. That's got him in a better mood lately."
She bumps into his side once, then twice, desperate for some skin contact. Body heat. Anything. Cameron stops. "Courtney what are you doing?"
"I'm freezing!" Cosmo putters out of light, like he's just as cold as she is. He flies out ahead with sad garbling sounds. "Let me steal your warmth?"
She crowds into Cameron, wrapping her arms around him, dropping her head onto his shoulder. The metal zipper of his leather jacket digs into her bare skin and she holds in a hiss. Cameron tentatively pats her curls. Why isn't this helping? She lets out a pathetic-sounding whimper as her knees knock, squeezing her not-quite-boyfriend-yet-more-than-friends-ex tighter. She's seen this work with Beth and Rick. Even Yolanda's hugs feel toasty through her suit. What gives? "Cameron, you're supposed to be helping me!"
He rubs his hand up and down her back, but it only wracks her with more chills. "How's that?"
Oh. Courtney winces. "Uh. Um. G-great!"
No, somehow, this is infinitely worse off than she's been before. But it also feels nice to be close to him like this, and she doesn't quite have the heart to tell Cameron that this hug is a mistake. Courtney closes her eyes, blinking sleepily as her thoughts start to drift until a firm hand grasps her shoulder, yanking her away.
"Mahkent, what the actual hell?" Rick's unclasping his hood and wrapping it around her like a big blanket with a stunning shock of warmth. Cosmo comes flying, nestling itself within the blanket cocoon, sending her slow heat pulses as it also heats up from their huddling session.
"What?" Cameron stands in the dirt road, utterly lost. "What did I do?"
"You almost froze her, idiot!"
"You don't generate body heat the way of an average person anymore," Beth cuts in a stern whisper, preventing a fight. She gives Cameron a sympathetic shrug. "I know you didn't mean to do it, but that was borderline hypothermic."
"Oh god," Cameron steps forward towards Courtney. "I had no idea I ran that cold. I'm so sorry."
"It's okay," she promises. "You were just trying to help."
"Was he?" Rick wonders out loud.
Both girls roll their eyes at him. "Yes!"
"Alright," Beth says, breaking up the delay. "We checked the shed, there's nothing in there, so we're going to catch up with Yolanda and Artemis."
"Okay."
"Sure, Beth."
"And as team doctor, if you're not wearing pants and it's still this weather? I'm sending you home."
"What!" Courtney exclaims. "Pants? But my costume is--"
"Not worth you getting sick."
"I think she's right, Court." Cameron sends her a crooked smile. "There's no JSA without Stargirl."
Courtney pouts. "I guess so."
"Hey," Cameron says. "Hot chocolate at Richie's on me when we're done?" Maybe it's Cosmo's newfound heat, but she'd like to think it's Cameron's eager expression as he waits for her answer that warms her chest.
"That sounds perfect."

Do you think Camney survived? I don’t. I think even if they got back together in HS they’re not together in the 10 year jump. It’s curios the seating arrangement at the table because Cameron is sitting next to Artemis, not Courtney. Not that you have to sit next to your significant other (ahem, hournite lol) but I feel like if they were together we would have at least gotten that as a hint. I think they’re dunzo by the time jump and honestly, I’m glad.
youtube
Anon, I am so glad you asked.
No, I do not think that Camney survived. I think it's likely that they made up for a little bit, but they didn't even do that as a couple (the hug gave off friend vibes to me). I think Courtney tried to integrate Cameron into the JSA as smoothly as possible, but he just did not vibe with them enough. Like, he and Rick are arch-enemies, basically. He hates Cindy, probably more than he does Rick. Mike is definitely still a little scared of him, I would think, even if he wouldn't necessarily hold a grudge against him for "killing" his dad. Yolanda always was weary of him. That leaves Beth, Courtney, and Jakeem (plus Artemis if she was added at around the same time). The odds are kind of stacked against him, and if Camney even had the faintest of cracks, I don't think their relationship is strong enough to weather it. He broke up with her twice. Like, it's not looking good.
Now. About that seating chart? Yes, friend, I do think it's weird that Cameron would not sit next to his SO. He's not even sitting anywhere near her; he's closer to both Rick and Cindy, two people who we established he had ISSUES with throughout the show. You would think that if he was on the same team as his girlfriend, he would fight tooth and nail with Yolanda to sit next to her. And yet? He literally could not sit any further away from her.
See? I told you I made a model.
But the THING IS, if I may be so bold...Cameron is sitting next to his SO. Because he is. Or, at least, he's sitting next to his comic counterpart's SO, Artemis (as you pointed out).
So...what I'm trying to say is...
...Sportsicle Rights!
#ask cam#stargirl#dc stargirl#sportsicle#this is one of those things that feels wrong tagging camney so i will not#courtney whitmore#cameron mahkent#artemis crock

ugh i GUESS i’ll meta abt camney (any opinions from like season two onwards are all absorbed through reading the public discourse abt it i haven’t actually seen it so like take it with a grain of salt i might be a little off)
idk as someone who was very anti-camney from the get-go it’s wild to see how poorly it’s been written continuously and even how their ending was just so lackluster. for a relationship that’s meant to be the primary love interest of the show it really just undermined the plot (in season one at least imo, it seems the trend continued from what i’ve read) and was pre-installed shock value; cutting cameron’s scenes in season one was perhaps one of the most devastating blows to the series overall because it expected us as the viewer to play along with the idea that cameron was just a Nice Boy, despite the show itself never really deciding a direction or angle for him. it felt like he didn’t have an arc because they cut everything but the bare bones of his character for season one, leaving the audience confused and without a foundation for his motives, which is entirely different from writing him as a mysterious son of a villain because the show’s writing really SEEMED like it was trying to talk about cameron’s motive and origin but the ridiculous amount of contradictions and cutting that happened meant that it said nothing at all about cameron
and maybe the end of season 2 and season 3 talked about it more maybe there’s more emphasis on cameron’s reasoning and his beliefs and more intrigue as to why him and courtney actually LIKE each other, but their foundational meeting and introduction feels so fabricated i don’t know how much retconning of season one and prior can fix the miswriting/editing of their relationship at its core
#stargirl#idk i feel like how they wrote cameron and camney was such a misstep given the fact she’s the MAIN CHARACTER#the way he’s portrayed to the audience is incredibly misguided because the show can’t decide if they want us to believe in camney or not#which is a bad move! you as a show should have a stance on the main relationship! you are writing the relationship!#it can’t decide if we as the audience should be viewing it as tragic young lovers or the major otp or if we should see cameron as deranged#and that’s bad! and sadly they’re not writing some really intriguing love story they’re being so adamantly vague to play to all sides#and it’s bad writing. we should say it it is just bad writing#like genuinely the show almost sets up cindy to be her love interest instead of cameron. it’s crazy like the only difference is that the sho#believes that you should believe they (camney) like each other. that’s it#man it’s so frustrating there’s so much more they could have done if they didn’t write it this way but it really hindered the show#anti camney#eleanor.txt

Girlie you KNOW the iceskating has been a priority for us (28)
JSA on Ice
Courtney places both hands on their lunch table the first Monday after the holiday break. “In the spirit of the new year, friendship and reconciliation, Cameron has offered us to join him at his new ice rink after school today. Unless you are grounded or dying, I decree presence is mandatory.”
Beth and Rick blink at Courtney.
Yolanda sets down her sandwich. “I dunno Court. Ice-skating? Do you seriously trust me with knives on my feet?”
Rick scoffs. “Do you seriously trust Cameron not to slap me with a restraining order from the Mahkent Estate?”
The three turn their heads to Beth. She twirls her spoon into her steaming leek soup. “Why am I always the deciding vote?”
Rick straightens in his chair, looking like he wants to stuff the words back into his mouth. “She’s right,” he says. “We always do this to her. It’s not fair.”
Yolanda coughs, covering her mouth with the back of her palm. “Simp.”
“I never said this was a vote.” Courtney sat down in her seat. “Instead of patrol, we’re skating. All of us. And we will be on our best behaviour.” She uncaps her apple juice and takes a swig. “It’s gonna be fun.”
“Okay. Whatever. One problem, Court? I don’t have skates.”
“Me neither,” Yolanda chimes in after Rick.
Courtney pauses mid-chew. “Oh.” She wrinkles her nose and swallows. “I’m sure it’ll be fine. Cameron will take care of all the details.”
~.~
The rink is already in use when Beth, Rick and Yolanda are shown to the backyard by a hobbling Sofus Mahkent. The three stop in their tracks. The big box beside the Mahkent gardens is a state-of-the-art newly-installed ice rink; with aluminum bleachers, giant lamps overhead it and an installed kiosk with dozens of skates in many sizes. Cameron is on the ice, twirling around in quick succinct twirls like he’s trying out for the Olympics as Courtney watches in her gold puffer jacket on the sidelines.
“No way,” Yolanda breathes out. “How much did that cost?”
Beth twists the bag of skates in her gloved hands. “A pretty penny, I’d guess.”
Rick scowls. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Courtney’s sixth sense must’ve gone off because she turns around and lights up at the sight of her friends. She pulls them towards the rink and dumps their stuff on the bleachers, talking a mile a minute about how happy and proud she is of Beth and Yolanda but most pointedly Rick coming. She explains that she had gone over the missing skates issue for Rick and Yolanda and had been reassured that he’s got plenty of skates in every size in anticipation of this skating party.
“Isn’t that sweet?” Courtney drops the ones intended for Rick in front of him.
He fixes her with a pained grimace. “The sweetest.”
Courtney doesn’t hear him, too busy helping Yolanda lace up her skates. Her Stargirl high-top boots have made her easily the fastest with laces.
Beth scoots closer to Rick, nudging his arm with her mitten. “Be nice.” Rick side-eyes her but doesn’t reply.
“What are you doing?” she asks when he turns the skates over, inspecting them in the winter sunlight.
He grips the top of the guard to see how firm it is. “Making sure they’re not defective.” He gives them a knock against the bleacher and inspects them again.
“I don’t think Cameron is going to give you defectives skates.”
Cameron comes to a well-timed glide on the smooth ice, stopping right at the edge. He’s dressed in a woolly black scarf over his long-sleeved grey henley. He nods at the crew with cautious optimism. “It’s nice to see you guys.”
Beth goes the polite route, sticking her hand out to shake his like this was a business meeting and not a group of classmates hanging out after school. Cameron rolls with it. “Thanks for inviting us. This looks really cool.”
“I’m glad you’re here, Beth. Really, my grandpa was happy to hear you’d be here.”
She smiles. “I’m happy he seems to be doing better too.”
Yolanda stands up once Courtney is done. She holds onto the banister and wobbles down the steps. Cameron reaches out and helps her glide onto the ice. Within a few uncoordinated strides, she gains her footing and takes off.
“You look like you have a problem,” Cameron says to Rick once they’re all on the ice. He tries to hold in a smirk but it doesn’t seem that it’s working very well.
Rick’s gripping the border for the life of him, inching at a snail’s pace. “Yeah, I have a problem. You’re telling me you have ice powers and instead of touching the ground with your hand–something that would take 5 seconds– you went and installed a thousand-dollar ice rink?”
Cameron pursed his lips. “I couldn’t make an ice rink in my backyard. It wouldn’t be regulated.”
Rick groans, completely ignoring the way he’s seconds to wiping out on his ass to continue his anti-Mahkent campaign. “You have so much money and you’re wasting it!”
“You’re wearing a $400 dollar leather jacket that Mr. Chapel gave you.”
He scoffs. “No, I’m not!”
Beth circles around, helping Rick stand up straight. “Yes, you are.”
“.....oh.”
Cameron reaches over the edge and pulls out an orange construction cone. “Think you need this, man.”
Beth accepts it as Rick scowls.
On the opposite end of the rink, Yolanda tries to attempt a toe loop jump. She lands in a check position and throws her hands at the success. Courtney claps, and Cameron joins them, performing double axels on his way like it’s nothing.
“That’s pretty good, Yolanda.”
She shoots him a half-smile. “I didn’t think it would be this easy, but I guess after a year in the wildcat suit, I’m more agile than I thought.” She glances at Courtney. “That makes sense, right?”
Courtney shrugs as if to say Beats me. I don’t know how the wildcat suit works.
“How long have you been a skater, Cameron?”
“Uh…” Cameron scratches the back of his neck. “Two weeks?”
Yolanda’s mouth parts in an O-shape. “Why’d you go and get this then?”
“He wanted to practice his powers,” Courtney explains, looping her arm around his. “Safely,” she adds, in case that wasn’t clear. Cameron smiles at her, and Yolanda silently wonders if she’s going to be stuck being a tragic fifth wheel for the rest of her life.
“Rick!”
A crash sounds from the other end of the rink as the orange cone speeds toward them.
“...Should I help him?” Cameron wonders out loud as the three turn around to watch Beth struggle to haul Rick back up to his feet.
“Rick’s not accepting your help,” Yolanda says plainly. She skates towards Rick and Beth, grabbing onto his right arm as Beth takes his left. With the two of them, they manage to get Rick off his ass. The scowl is permanently etched onto his face now as he wipes frost from his pants, sulking. “I hate skating.”
Beth’s face brightens into an endeared pout. Rick clearly did not expect that reaction, surprised when Yolanda and Beth share a glance of amusement. Yolanda puts her hand on her hip. “What’s the matter, Rick? Can’t handle being bad at something that Cameron is good at?”
“What happened to you thinking you’d slice someone with your skates?” Rick mutters, betrayed.
Yolanda shrugs, skating backwards around Beth and Rick. “I got over it. You can too. It’s fun.”
Cameron laps around them, doing another complicated twisting jump as if to show off Yolanda’s point.
“That’s what I told him,” Beth tells her. She reaches forward and takes Rick’s hands. He looks up. “Forget Cameron’s figure skating moves,” Beth says. “And forget the orange cone. Don’t be embarrassed that you’re a beginner. You’ve never skated before. It’s normal. Why don’t you just hold onto me?”
Rick doesn’t pull away and doesn’t move to the bleachers, so it seems he’s willing to give it another try.
Yolanda holds in another eye roll and swiftly spins away before she can witness more Teen Romance On Ice. She grabs onto Courtney as she passes her by, tugging her sleeve. “Want to explore Cameron’s kitchen with me? We can get hot chocolate.”
“Yeah, I have lots of hot chocolate.” Cameron nods over to his huge house as his eyes turn white. He flicks his hand and forms an ice kiosk hot chocolate booth. Courtney and Yolanda gape at it. “You girls stay here, I’ll go get them.” Cameron doesn’t even remove his skates, leaving the rink and continuing to skate on freshly created ice underneath him.
Yolanda pinches her fingers together. “You have to admit, Court. Rick’s a little right. He is a show-off.”
“I don’t blame him! His powers are cool!” Courtney leans against the rink wall. “I think everyone deserves to show off once in a while.”
“I forgot who I was talking to,” Yolanda replies, but her voice is laced with affection. Finally, finally, Rick and Beth manage to get themselves over to the side where Courtney and Yolanda are talking.
“So?” She tries bouncing on her feet but the skates make it difficult. Courtney grins at her friends instead. “Wasn’t this a great idea?”
“It was,” Beth is quick to reply.
Yolanda nods.
Rick sighs. “It’s going to take a lot more than an overpriced ice skating party for me to be okay with Mahkent but…if you three are happy, I’m happy.”
Beth squeezes Rick’s hand. “You’re a good sport.”
“Yay!” Courtney rushes in for an awkward group hug, then tags Yolanda and bounds away. “Last one to the hot chocolate stand is on Pit Stop clean-up duty after our next JSA meeting!”
