Helloo! How r u? Hopefully well! As someone who has Spanish as a comfort language, I'd love a Camilo x Fem!Reader fanfic(or headcanons!), short or not, where whenever Cami speaks whole Spanish sentences, Reader just feels so happy and safe! Reader can be a foreign if it works better for u. I don't know Spanish but that makes it better, haha. Maybe times where Camilo asks if Reader can even understand him and she'd be like "no♡". Ur work always makes me smile. Hope u'll have a great morning, afternoon, evening, night or midnight!

camilo is a bit of a rambler in general (personal headcanon), and it amplifies when he’s with his partner
“entonces isabela y mirabel deciden hacer equipo conmigo?! loco verdad?” (so isabela and mirabel decide to team up on me?! crazy right?”)
“i’m sorry ‘milo, what?”

Heyyyyy!!! You still do Encanto? If so the can you do Camilo x male reader and like the madrigals throw a party for whatever and male reader knows how to dance so he dances with a girl/guy whatever and they accidentally kiss and male reader explains or whatever that it was an accident. (Sorry if it’s long and too detailed)
~ Yes! Since we're so close to the new year I decided to mix it up with that, I hope you don't mind. And it's no biggie, really! I prefer more specific requests anyway. Thank you for the request, it's the first one I get so I'm pretty happy about that s2. Hope you like it! ~
Camilo x Male reader
Summary: You accidentally kiss someone else while dancing. Camilo, your boyfriend, sees it. Misundertandings ensue. (You make up at the end, though, so don't worry!)
Word count: 1830.
Genre: Emotional hurt/comfort(?)
Author's notes: This might be a bit ooc, I'm not too sure, it's been a while since I've interacted with anything Encanto! Also, I used the word "parce" at some point, I've heard it's similar to "bro" in English or "mano" in Portuguese. I say it a lot so I feel it would fit in the dialogue but do let me know if it's not used like that in Colombia. And!! The dance I had in mind for this was cumbia since it's, apparently, a very popular dance there, but it's not really mentioned explicitly (and it could be wrong, since if you looked up that about Brazil Google would make you think most people dance samba at parties here when it's not really true, at least in my experience). And yes, the way the "kiss" happens isn't that realistic but who cares? Not me (though, fun fact, something very similar happened to me irl once!)
Celebrating the new year was always fun at Encanto. The whole town came over to the Madrigals' house and danced, drank, ate, and just generally partied until dawn. Now, it wasn't as wild as it sounds, but it was always a treat.
This year was particularly exciting for you since it was your first year officially attending as Camilo's boyfriend!
What did that change? Well, not much, only that you helped organize the place before the party, which you didn't mind (not when that meant you could spend the entire day goofing around with Camilo while doing so). But even though you partied together almost every year, there was just something different about dancing as a couple instead of friends.
The two of you had danced for a while after the *real* party started, however eventually decided to switch partners every few minutes as most did. It was just more fun like that, and you were still close enough for it to be considered time spent together. Plus, you were amongst friends, so it didn't feel weird.
Eventually, you ended up back together. After a few short minutes of dancing, Camilo suddenly seemed distracted, staring behind you as he stepped along to the beat of the song.
"You know, if you keep doing that you're gonna step on my foot!" You teased, then asked, "What's wrong?"
"... Oh, perdón, corazón." You cringed a little at how that rhymed. It seemed intentional by the way he giggled after saying that. "Mi mamá wants me to fix something, I think, I don't really understand what she's trying to say."
You stopped dancing and turned around to look as well, quickly finding Pepa gesturing angrily at the upstairs of the house and mouthing something to your boyfriend. After she noticed you looking, however, she stopped, smiled, and waved almost awkwardly. You and Camilo laughed.
"Want me to go with you?"
"No, no, it's fine! I want you to enjoy yourself, you already did enough by helping me with the decorations earlier. Just keep dancing or whatever." he explained, then grabbed your chin and gave you a soft kiss on the lips, grinning right after "See you in a few minutes!"
With that, he left.
'Charming bastard..." You thought as you watched him go, lips still tingling from his kiss.
[...]
You tried to wait for Camilo to come back but got bored after a few minutes. He did give you permission to dance with other people, and you were doing that before anyway, so you were sure he wouldn't mind.
The dance floor (that was actually just the main room of the house) was considerably fuller now that people started drinking, but you still had enough space to dance. Your current partner was Daniela, your sweet next-door neighbor. It was actually her mother that taught you how to dance along with some of the other kids in your street, so you were very comfortable dancing with each other.
You were facing each other to be able to talk better, one of your hands on her waist and the other on her hand. You spoke about your plans for the year, how your relationship was going, did some casual gossip because why not, when suddenly someone ran into her from behind. She fell forward, and your natural instinct was to try to hold her so she wouldn't fall. This, unfortunately for the two of you, ended up causing something quite awkward: your lips on hers.
It was very, very quick, but felt weird nonetheless. You hadn't really kissed anyone other than Camilo, but did this even count when it was on accident?
You stared at each other for a few seconds after separating. She was slowly becoming red like a tomato (and your face felt very hot as well, so Lord knows what you looked like), but both ended up laughing.
"I'm sorry, I didn't- someone ran into me-" She tried to explain, but you just shook your head and put your hand on her shoulder with a smile.
"I get it, it's fine, I noticed. Still wanna dance?"
She nodded positively and you went back to doing what you were before, not giving the event much thought.
[...]
A few more minutes passed, and still not a trace of Camilo. You weren't worried before, but now you were. Did something happen?
"Parce... I'm gonna go look for Camilo. He's been gone for a while, I'm worried." You announced and stopped dancing.
"Alright! See you later, (Y/n)! Tell him I said hi." She said.
"Will do!" You waved, then left.
You looked around the entire house and still couldn't find your boyfriend. Now you were really worried. It felt a bit irrational since it was Pepa who had left with him, so surely she would keep him safe. But what if something happened to the two of them, then?
Before your paranoid thoughts could get to you, you managed to find Dolores, who looked around as if looking for someone while holding a cup of juice.
"Hey, Dolores!" You greeted and she jumped before looking at you. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Have you seen Camilo around? I can't find him anywhere!"
"Oh, he's mad at you because you kissed Daniela." She explained, then widened her eyes and squeaked when she noticed what she just said. "I mean, no."
Your chest tightened when you heard what she said. So he thought you cheated on him?
"He saw that? But it was an accident! I don't-"
"I tried to tell him, but he didn't want to listen." She shrugged.
You didn't know how to feel about how Dolores was apparently listening to you and Daniela talk for her to have managed to catch that part, but didn't give it much thought. You were more worried about Camilo as of now.
"Where is he?"
She looked around with just her eyes, then replied.
"His bedroom. You should go, he's very upset."
You didn't wait a second before you left, quickly making your way to your boyfriend's room. Even though it wasn't really your fault, you still felt extremely guilty. This day was supposed to be one of fun and parties, not sadness! You weren't even sure he would believe you when you told him what had actually happened, but the thought of him breaking up with you because of that gave upset you too much, so you chose to think about it.
When you got to the glowing door of his bedroom, you knocked a few times, hands shaking a little from the built-up anxiety. You hoped he wasn't THAT hurt.
"Camilo, it's (Y/n)!" You said. "We need to talk!"
You couldn't hear anything behind the door for a while, but it suddenly just opened, revealing none other than Camilo. His eyes were red and puffy and he was still wearing what he wore at the party, though a little crumpled and with some small bits of dust that probably came from a blanket.
You could have cried at the sight, especially with this misunderstanding being the cause of it, but before you could say anything Camilo started talking.
"There's nothing to talk about!" he exclaimed angrily and sniffled, tears starting to fall from his eyes. "Y-you kissed her while I was gone! I trusted you! I thought..."
"No, no, mi vida! It's nothing like that!" you interrupted before he could go on, determined to avoid any further misunderstandings. "Someone pushed her on accident and she fell, I tried to catch her and, well, that's what you saw! I didn't say anything because, to us, it didn't mean anything! It was an accident! She has her boyfriend and I have you, and I would never want to kiss anyone else! I'm so, so, so sorry..."
Camilo stared at you silently as his tears came to a halt. He sniffled and dried his eyes with his hands before speaking again.
"So... You still love me?"
"Of course I do! I love you more than anything, amor!" your face got warmer after saying that. "I'm sorry I didn't say anything, I just didn't think it was that big of a deal, but I should have-"
Before you could keep going, Camilo hugged you so fast you didn't even see it coming. You returned the gesture and wrapped your arms gently around his figure, softly caressing his back as you did.
"... Mi hermana tried to say that to me, I think, but I didn't really listen... I'm, uh, sorry." He said. The words were a bit muffled since his face was pressed against your neck, but they were still understandable.
You let out a relaxed sigh, then giggled and placed a sweet kiss on his forehead.
"It's fine, she told me. I'm just glad you're not sad anymore... Unless you still are?" You pulled away and looked at him with a worried expression.
He pulled you back and shook his head.
"No, no! I'm glad I was wrong! I'm sorry for having jumped to conclusions so quickly-"
"But it was perfectly reasonable for you to get upset about that, I-"
"Ey, ey!" he interrupted as he pulled away, placing both hands on your shoulders. "What if, instead of infinitely apologizing to each other, we went back to having some fun?"
You laughed and nodded.
"Yeah, that sounds better. Wanna go back to the party?"
"Actually," Camilo replied with a mischievous grin "I had something else in mind." He walked a few steps back and looked at the inside of his bedroom, then at you again. "Wanna come in?"
You only raised an eyebrow and complied, following him into the room.
[...]
The idea turned out to be surprisingly mild. You were laying down comfortably on Camilo's bed, with your arms wrapped around him as you watched some telenovela his tío, Bruno, had recommended to him.
"But... Wasn't she his tía or something?" You asked, confused.
"Amor, are you even watching?" Camilo huffed in an annoyed manner but didn't bother looking up at you. "Yes, she is! But she doesn't remember that, she has amnesia! That's like, the whole point!" He said as he gestured at the screen.
"Perdón, perdón. I'm just busy looking at something else." You said, staring lovingly at him.
He turned his head towards you in curiosity, staring blankly for a few minutes before becoming almost as red as a tomato.
"Eres ridículo, (Y/n)." He laughed and gave you a quick kiss on the lips, then went back to watching the TV.
"What can I say? I love you! And you're very, very pretty."
"He, I love you too. Now pay attention to the telenovela or I swear I'll make you watch it all again!"
You both ended up falling asleep together while watching television. It wasn't exactly what you had in mind for the new year, but waking up in the morning with him still in your arms was certainly more than you could have asked for.

Free Comic Book Day is rapidly approaching, marking a time of year when comic book fans come out in droves to support their local shops.
There’s been some form of a Free Comic Book Day every year since 2002, with comic shops and comic pros coming together to make it an event that includes signings, contests, and more.
A lot of that success is thanks to the involvement of the publishers, who offer up some of their biggest titles. FCBD is now where the biggest storylines and newest titles are teased first, meaning this is the go-to event if you’re looking forward to 2024’s biggest stories.
What is Free Comic Book Day?
Always held the first Saturday in May, Free Comic Book Day is an annual event where retailers offer up free comics as promotional items. The event tends to be fairly massive, even more so than events like Batman Day.
The first Free Comic Book Day took place in 2002, organized by comic shop owner Joe Field and Image Comics co-founder Jim Valentino. The original event was scheduled to coincide with the release of Spider-Man as a means of capitalizing on the positive interest in comics being generated by a new wave of successful comic book movies, like X-Men and Blade.
Ultimate Spider-Man takes center stage for Marvel’s FCBD 2024 offerings.
The original release date stuck as a tradition, with every FCBD taking place the first Saturday in May (the lone exception being 2004’s event, which was shuffled to July to the release of Spider-Man 2).
The comics themselves are free, but retailers do still pay for them, albeit at a heavily discounted rate, with publishers covering the production cost of the comics. As such, many fans consider it good etiquette to support your local store by buying a few comics while you’re there for the freebies.
Availability of the comics can vary based on location. To find out where your local store is, you can check out at Comic Shop Locator.
Every available Free Comic Book Day 2024 title
Free Comic Book Day takes place May 4, 2024. Here’s every comic that will be offered through Diamond Distributors for FCBD 2024.

I’m in the indifferent camp but I hate the way the fandom is obsessed with him to the detriment of all the other characters...from making the Papa Bruno aus so as to sideline Julieta and Agustin to making him the only character who suffered/did nothing wrong/all the other characters suck and don’t matter to sexualizing him and most fics being about either him or him x reader, same with Camilo. Plus all the talk about how EVERYONE loves Bruno and edits about how he’s the best character certainly make me feel isolated.
Canon-wise however, I don’t dislike or hate him at all, I only don’t like the whole “it looks like rain” comment from him...but he apologized for that so it doesn’t matter. Speaking of which I don’t like how the entire fandom blames Pepa for that incident, it pisses me off, but that’s a topic for another discussion.
Regardless even though I find both him and Camilo annoyingly overrated, which is only to be expected because fandom will sideline female characters in favor of male characters that they can either give all the depth/hyperanalyzing to(even if said depth applies to the female characters as well/actually) or fantasize about shagging against a wall, and actually LIKE Camilo(shocker I know), I still tend to write Bruno as generally favorable or okay in my fics...which is more than I can say for Camilo(I am captain of the Camilo slander squad, I produced the Camilo diss track, okay?! okay!). That or he’s in the background of the story, I don’t care.
The good news though is that most of my followers are indifferent to Bruno either which is such a relief and lets me forget about the general fandom’s simpiness. So that’s a plus, as mean as it sounds. 😅
I have a question for specific people in the Encanto fandom
Okay I know like half of the fandom either love Bruno or are indifferent about him BUT I just know there are people that genuinely dislike his character and I just want to know why. I would like to see some different perspectives!

okay camilo with an s/o with a contagious laugh thank u 😤❤
camilo with gen!reader having a contagious laugh would include...
So you and Camilo had been dating for a while (around 5 months)
But you had only been to a Madrigal dinner like once when he first introduced you to the family.
Now would be the second time you were going to have dinner with la familia Madrigal and you were a nervous wreck
Although you knew them from the town and - occasionally - helped them out with chores, you still didn't know them
Especially Alma Madrigal
Oh boy did she scare you shitless
When the two of you arrived he sat you down next to him and his older sister right in the middle of the table
Opposite of Isabela
No offence to her, she was gorgeous and you were sure she was so sweet and nice
Didn't mean she didn't scare you as she stared you down
You awkwardly laughed and looked to the side, squeezing Camilo's hand lightly (a habit you had actually picked up from him when he was nervous)
To your luck, Julieta and Mirabel placed the food on the table and the dinner had finally begun
Camilo grabbed you a big portion and (obviously) an even bigger portion for himself
Small talk and chatter filled the room for a good 20 minutes in during eating
You didn't really join in, only replying to questions asked towards you and making small comments about how good the food was here and there
You were trying to focus on a single conversation but found it difficult due to the amount of them being made around you
Until you did and just so happened to be Agustín's (maybe sad) attempt at making a joke
More so a dad joke
But luckily for him!
You secretly loved dad jokes
"Hey kids!"
"What papá?"
"What's the best thing about Switzerland?"
"Oh god not another dad joke-"
"Come oooon! What's the best thing about it?!"
"Uhhhh what is it?"
"I don't know, but the flag is a big plus"
And as if on que everyone in the room stops talking
AWKWARD SILENCE
It just reeked of it as everyone was eyeing Agustín
Poor man was the only one laughing at his own (kinda bad) joke
Until you opened your mouth
And you just started laughing really really hard
We're talking about the 'i have to clench my stomach and wipe my tears' laugh
Agustín naturally just started laughing harder since at least one person found his joke funny
Bruno couldn't help himself but laugh when he heard your laughter
And soon enough everyone just started joining in and laughing as hard as you and Agustín were
Your laugh was so contagious it was pretty hard not to join in
Camilo always thought of your laugh as pretty (sometimes a little too loud but otherwise pretty)
You on the other hand had always been self conscious about your laugh
Some girl had said you had a 'if a chicken had a love baby with a donkey' laugh when you were like 6
And ever since then you had a fake laugh to cover up your real laugh
But because of Agustín you couldn't hold it in and now everyone was laughing along with you
"See?! Y/N, they have taste!" Camilo's tio let out as everyone was catching their breath
"They don't but okay-"
"What? It was funny!" you let out with a small giggle still thinking about the joke
"You're just so cute!" Camilo exclaimed next to you, leaning over to pinch your cheeks
"No, I sound like the chicken's and donkey's love baby" you frowned
"Y/N that was when we were 6 now we're 15"
"It still sounds like that though-"
"Antonio!" Pepa shushed her son and motioned for Camilo to continue
"Still.." your frown deepened
"Mi vida you and your laugh are the cutest thing to ever exist on this world" he pecked your forehead and moved in to peck your lips
But
"Ahem!" Abuela coughed loudly, side eyeing both you and Camilo
But she failed to hide the content and knowing smile that was growing on her lips
You noticed how late it was and kind of panicked because last time you came super late to your house and your parents accidently locked you out
And then you had to awkwardly make your way back to Casita and crash at Camilo's room (with parental supervision of course)
"It's really late I think I should be going now. Thank you for having me over and thank you for the delicious food!" you smiled as you stood up, the Madrigal family standing up in turn
"Thank you dear for coming, I'm glad you enjoyed your time here" Abuela said warmly
This woman wasn't as scary as you thought she would be
You proceeded to hug each family member and made your way to the exit of the house
Hand in hand with Camilo the two of you walked back to your house where he dropped you off (after making sure you weren't locked out again)
"Thank you for inviting me" you let out softly
"Thank you for accepting" he smiled cheekily and moved to kiss you
"Ahem!" you mocked Abuela when he was only inches away from your lips
The both of you laughed and he moved in again to finally kiss you
The two of you pulled away and rested your foreheads on each others, both of you smiling like idiots
"I really love your laugh by the way did I ever tell you that?"
You laughed, lifting a hand up to his head to caress his hair
"Yeah you've said it about 100 times"
"Well then make it 101 because I really do"
And with that he kissed you tenderly once more before you both called it a night
The dinner didn't go so bad after all

I'm going to say something controversial. Something I might lose followers for.
I think it's okay for writers 18+ to write Camilo and/or Mirabel fluff/angst. Just because they write about them that doesn't make them 'pedofiles', 'creepy', or 'strange'. AS LONG as they don't age the two up for SMUT then it's okay.
However, I'm actually glad that minors are protecting their space. It wasn't like that when I was younger: It didn't matter what age you were, you wrote headcanons for anyone. That might be why I get a little scuffed when I see '18+ DNI' over something that looks interesting to read. I want to support younger writers, but hey, if someone 18+ reading your work makes you uncomfortable, you have EVERY right to establish boundaries. I don't read anything from a blog that states they're a minor (in fact, I close the blog and move on) but some people don't do that unfortunately. I do get taken aback when I see things like, "If you're 18+ and reading this you're a fucking creep" but I understand its necessary! Hurtful but necessary.
ETA: If you're a minor that's a Camilo writer, feel free to block me! Sure I scroll past everything that has '18+ DNI" and I make sure I'm not reading anything from minors, but block me just to feel safe. Thanks!

special thanks to @sanktnikolais for editing my messy thoughts, i adore you
As a Colombian woman, it really warms my heart to see how many people are loving Encanto—all the positive reactions and the praise the movie has received not only from the critics but from the audience in general make me happy beyond measure. I, as well as pretty much everyone in this country, have always resented the negative representation we have had in the media.
For instance, "Narcos" is one of the best examples of this hurtful representation that continues to profit from some of the darkest moments of recent history, events that we all would like to bury in the past.
Nonetheless, the discourse I have seen about Encanto, especially on Tumblr, has disappointed me greatly. Most people have focused on coming out with headcanons about the characters' sexuality and gender, or writing Camilo x reader fics (do you realize he’s a teenager? please stop) shifting completely the real focus of the movie. Listen, I am not going to tell anyone what to do or to gatekeep these characters. The fact that you think Isabela is a lesbian doesn't bother me; what I'd really like to remind people of, specially queer white folks, is that this movie isn't for you.
This movie was made first and foremost for Colombians and Latinos. Therefore, when a movie like Encanto, which excels in every aspect and has finally given us the representation that we have been dying for, gets its every valuable aspect outshone by these woke and for the most part ridiculous takes (Bruno is autistic bc the knock on wood thing? Tell me you are white without telling me you are white.) It is expected that people like me won't feel happy.
That being said, in this post I want to tell you about the amazing job Disney made at representing the armed conflict in my country and what this representation and the song "Dos Oruguitas" mean for Colombian people.
As expected, when Disney announced Encanto as its 60th animated movie there were two kinds of people: the ones—including me—who couldn't contain our excitement and decided to trust Disney and cross fingers while saying "please don't mess this up"; and the ones who were convinced this would be a silly and stereotypical movie with zero to none cultural accuracy.
I still remember waking up very early the day the first trailer was set to be released and waiting impatiently the whole morning, until it was finally there after two years of waiting, and I couldn't contain the tears. The trailer broke down Colombian twitter, everyone was posting threads with all the references to our culture, the animals, the plants, the clothing, the food, the real places who inspired the movie. Disney had finally done it right this time.
And yet still, some people weren't content. “This isn't Colombia," they would say. “They aren't showing our long history with war and violence..."
This, of course, pissed me off deeply because for the first time we had something to feel proud of, something to show to the world that allowed us to say "this is who we truly are", they expected a war documentary from a children's movie. It was very clear and widely accepted that this movie wouldn't include any references to our violent past and present and that we all should be fine with it, because there are other types of content in which we can explore that on a deeper level; but to everyone's surprise, we were wrong.
Encanto opens up with Abuela telling Mirabel the story of the family's miracle. I saw the movie the day it premiered in my country, I can't remember seeing the cinema so full of people since Avengers Endgame. When Abuela explains how she and abuelo Pedro were forced to flee their home, everyone stopped talking. I'm sure we were all thinking, "Is this really happening? Did Disney just address one of the most painful events of this country?"
And the answer is yes. For the first time Disney decided to reference real life conflicts and not just any conflict, and I can't think of any different or better approach from the one the Encanto team chose.
The armed conflict in Colombia
I am aware that explaining a 70-year conflict in a Tumblr post is extremely difficult, even more to people who aren't citizens of this country. For this reason, I will try to oversimplify things as much as I can to get to the main point of this post. However, I will link some sources in case you want to do your own research, which I encourage you to do.
Over the last 70 years, Colombia has been devastated by the armed conflict. I am absolutely sure that there's no one in this country whose life hasn't been affected in one way or another by it, me and my family included. The Registro Único de Víctimas (RUV) recognizes 9 million people as victims of the different violent incidents that have taken place during the war. This number includes murders, enforced disappearances, kindappings, sexual assaults, massacres, terrorist attacks, tortures, forced recruitments, among other forms of violence. According to El Centro Nacional de Memoria Histórica, between 1958 and 2018, 261.919 thousand people were murdered in the context of the armed conflict.
This is how it started: Violent times in Colombia go back in time as far as 200 years ago, when members of the liberal and conservative parties began hostilities. Most people think that tracing the conflict to the 19th century is an exaggeration, but the truth is that the bipartisan violence never ended, it only shapeshifted and continues to nourish all the future conflict the country would face.
In 1948, Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, the liberal presidential candidante, and the most popular among the people was murdered in the capital. This was a breaking point in history that was followed by a wave of violence that quickly spread to the whole country and lasted until the end of the 50s. This period is known as "La Violencia''.
During this time, a group of peasants of liberal tendencies who had fought during "La Violencia'' and had been forced to flee their homes, settled in Marquetalia with their families, and founded "a free republic" with no loyalty whatsoever to the current government. By 1964 they had a considerable armed force and political power and already had rejected demobilization. As a consequence, the army attacked their settlements, forcing them to flee once more.
This, of course, had the opposite effect since two years later, the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia) were created; the biggest guerilla in Colombia and the principal assailants of the armed conflict. A product of its time, the FARC - the cold war and revolutionary movements in Latin America - they adopted the communist ideology.
At the same time and inspired the Cuban Revolution, the Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) is also established, Years later, other guerillas such as The Ejército Popular de Liberación (EPL), the M-19 would also take part in the conflict.
Around the 80s, the FARC had the objective to take over the government. Simultaneously, the ultra right wing, the army, politicians, landowners and even drug traffickers supported the creation of paramilitary units to fight the FARC and other guerrillas. As expected, this only deepened the violence because the paramilitaries fought the guerrillas but along the way they started murdering people in the country side and social leaders. These events coincide with the peak of drug trafficking in Colombia, which brought more harsh attacks against the people of this country but also money that at some point helped finance both groups.
From that moment on, war has worsened. Think of any violation against human rights and for sure it has been registered during these past 70 years . The majority of victims were civilians, men, women, and children of all ages were murdered, kindapped, raped, conscripted.
No one was spared.
Even after a peace treaty was signed between the government and the FARC, violence does not seem to stop. It is a combination of inequality, corruption, government neglect, a bad distribution of wealth, social injustice and drug trafficking, who continues to finance this very profitable business called war.
How is all of this related to Encanto?
One of the most devastating consequences of war is forced displacement. As I mentioned above, the majority of victims were civilians—specifically from the countryside, the zones the government has neglected for decades—who found themselves in the middle of the relentless violence; they had no choice but to flee their homes leaving all their belongings, their lives behind them except for what they could carry in their backs or hands.
They ran away because they were afraid they would be killed if they didn't, they ran away because their home had become a war zone. They ran away because they were afraid the guerrillas would take their children.
Some of them are “lucky” if you can call that luck, and they can leave before war knocked on their door, while some families weren’t. They didn’t always have a chance to escape. Most of them had seen their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons being killed or tortured in front of their eyes; their wives, daughters, and sisters sexually assaulted. Sometimes they even took one of their relatives and then it was certain they will never know what has become of them.
This is the wounding reality of this country. The more I think about it, the more I realize that it would have been impossible—even ridiculous—if Encanto prided itself on being true to Colombian culture if it hadn't included any reference to the armed conflict. No matter how traumatic and shattering this part of our reality is, it is still ours.
The story of Abuela Alma, a woman who had to flee her home in the middle of the night, with her children in her arms, a wife who saw her husband murdered in front of her eyes. She had to hold on to whatever strength was left inside of her to wake up day after day to raise three children and somehow try to come to terms to the traumatic events that forever changed her is not something that belongs in fiction. The scene when Alma falls down, powerless and helpless as her husband's life is brutally ended in front of her and their children, isn’t there because its purpose is to generate an emotional response in the audience. It is there because it has to be, because it is time the world knows what this country has endured.
This is the story of thousands of mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and all the strong women who somehow have been resilient enough to keep living after having suffered the unspeakable. The generational trauma in the family Madrigal is the heart of this film as much as it is their unconditional and enduring love for each other, as much as it is our music and our vibrant colors, as much as it is our grief but also our resilience.
Disney understood why it was vital to represent all of this in Encanto, and that’s why I cannot just sit here and watch how most people erase the heart of this film, you do not get the right to do it.
Dos Oruguitas
I love my country.
I love my country and I am proud of this blessed land, the second most biodiverse country on earth.
I am proud of our culture, our music, our food, our diversity and all the beautiful details that make us who we are.
I am proud of all the things you got to see and love in Encanto but I won’t lie and say living in the country is the most mesmerizing experience.
Colombia is the second most unequal country in Latin America, the health care system is a disaster, corruption reaches ridiculous standards, people get killed for defending their rights, there are no jobs, not enough opportunities for real progress, and we have one of the most devalued currencies in the region—all of that in the eyes of a government who couldn’t care less about the citizens of this country.
In addition to that and as I mentioned in the first lines of this post, there is no one whose life hasn’t been affected by war and violence. I can count myself lucky, my whole life I have lived in the city, and never got to endure what people in the countryside have gone through. But during the peak of drug trafficking war, when Pablx Escxbar would set car bombs in the cities every now and then, when people were too afraid to set a foot out of their houses, I almost lost my aunt and my dad—he almost died from being crushed by a wall when a car bomb exploded in front of his workplace, and then I wouldn’t be here, writing this post.
We constantly wake up with news of a new massacre somewhere in the countryside and some days it is really hard to find a reason to smile. I won’t pretend a Disney movie can solve all these problems because it really doesn’t. But in the middle of all these tragic events, it gives us—me—a reason to smile.
The Encanto soundtrack was released before the movie, I had heard they were pushing Dos Oruguitas for the academy award for best original song so that was the first song I listened to. I couldn’t stop crying. And even before knowing what scene it would accompany, this song felt like a gift, like a warm embrace that brings hope for a country that needs it desperately and for my people who remain strong and resilient in spite of it all, a country who dares to dream of a better tomorrow.
p.s 1: If you read this far, you are amazing and i love you
p.s 2: When Abuela Alma and Mirabel embrace they are surrounded by yellow butterflies, this is a reference to our nobel prize winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez and his novel “One hundred years of solitude”.
In case you want to read more about the armed conflict:
A more detailed explanation of the armed conflict in Colombia
If you are a spanish speaker, La Comisión de la Verdad released this podcast where victims of the armed conflict tell their stories
An amazing documentary by DW about what has happened in my country after the peace treaty with the FARC:
Some pictures by Jesús Abad Colorado, a photographer who has dedicaded his life to accompany the victims and their grief. The pictures are in black and white, and while they don’t include blood, they could be somewhat sensitive for some people.

saw you were taking encanto requests so i wanted to pitch in and ask for something that includes all the grandkids, who decide to kidnap adopt a girl just a few months younger than camilo and mirabel. they do this upon learning that her family is neglectful and she’s never known love. so they treat her like a beloved little sister, perhaps living out their fantasies of having a sweet baby sis.
YANDERE MADRIGAL FAMILY X READER
I’m sorry this is so late- literally forgot to post it💀
It was Antonio’s door ceremony , the village was lively with color, flowers bloomed at every green patch of grass, the members of la familia madrigal could be seen happily buzzing around the village, happy to accept any congraduations from the citizens. You were stuck in the shop all day, selling old items from way before you were born. Your parents of course, we’re off celebrating the new induction to the small boy named Antonio, leaving you to deal with everything, yet again.
You knew you should be happy, today marks a new day of flourishment for the village, but you just can’t seem to swipe that scoul from your features. Sure, you’d made very good friends with the madrigals, they were your best customers, Luisa often came in your shop to speak with you, Camilo would disguise himself every time, but you always knew it was him, and Isabela… she thought this place was too dirty, so she had taken you on somewhat of a date to the flower fields. Abuela had come in once or twice, didn’t buy anything, but spoke with you for a brief few minutes. The madrigal family was lived across the board, they were the reason that you were even alive today, but still, you couldn’t be happy for them. It was selfish. But it was true.
They were lively people, and they treated you like a a little sister or a daughter, but everytime you go to one of these ceremonies, every time you see mirabel and her mama in the plaza, you are just reminded of everything you’re missing in life. They have love, they are close knit. Someone would know if they go missing, or if they are found hung from the ceiling, someone will care for them. They know that no one will just forget them and go on with their lives. It always just sparked endless jealousy in you whenever you saw them smiling together, laughing together. And then they unknowingly rub it in by inviting you to their family dinners, by having sleepovers in Isabella’s room, or being hugged by Luisa. It was like they were just trying to prove how much you didn’t fit in.
You wish you had an Abuela that cared about your family, or a mama who would hold you close and comfort you when upset, or a papa who bragged about your accomplishments to others.
Especially now, as you stood in the crowd of people, watching at the golden family ascended the stairs of la casita. everyone around was cheerful, wearing the best of their best outfits, dancing and singing, just awaiting the reveal of Antonio’s room. You were a stark contrast to the general tone of the room, you had hoped that tonight maybe your parents would spend time with you, but they left yoh in a corner the second they left. You know, it’s sad and stupid to be mopey for no reason, but you couldn’t help but set a sad mood. It showed through your features too, a sad scowl and droopy eyes displayed on your face, you didn’t talk to anyone. Not even Isabella when she tried to feed you some of the arepas from the snacks. You didn’t realize that the entire madrigal family was solely focused on you, even Antonio was worried. Why were you sad? A fiesta is meant for smiles and flowers and madrigal weirdness, not a sad child longing for attention.
While in your daze, longingly staring at the family, you failed to notice the putter patter of la casita trying to speak, that was until it tapped at your foot. The tiles under your two feet moved around, fluttering and twisting until you snapped out of whatever trance you were in. You tilted your head down with a sorrowful smile at the times, which had now rearranged themselves into a smiley face.
“Hi, casita.” You said no more words than that, and it seemed to understand, leaving you along for a few seconds, before scuffling back with one of the pretty red roses isabela had grown. Of course la casita thought it would help you, being a smile yo your face, but instead it just furthered your sorrow, oh great! Isabel’s flowers that you would never be able to grow even if you had a green thumb! Wonderful! Your frown deepened.
“I really just- I don’t want to do this right now. Can I be alone. Please” you talked to the floor like a madwoman, but the tiles hook left to right, almost as if to say no. You let out a sigh, and continued to drone out the rest of the world, now solely focusing on the tiles, and the house that oh so desperately wants to make our happy. So it left, again, just for a few seconds. Only to come back again, this time in the shape of an arrow, pointing towards the set of stairs behind a wall, almost hidden.
“Oh? What? Do you want me to follow?” The tiles shooks up and down, and your questioned it for a solid moment, looking back at the family and the party, it probably wasn’t respectful to just run around someone’s house, before remembering that this is why you’re sad “oh damn it all, what have I got to lose?” You huffed, and followed the arrow.
You remained silent at the rest of the travel through the home, step by step, la casita placed pillows behind you as if it expected you to fall, you didn’t notice of course, too focused on how the tiles seemed to glow more and more as you followed them. You walked up and up and up until you reached the top, and heaved yourself past the hallway too. You’d never seen this part of the house, maybe they just kept it hidden from everyone else. But it was beautiful, flowers were painted along the borders of the walls, and vines hung from the ceiling with roses and lights attached to them, you smiled at the sight. How pretty. La casita seemed happy at the soft upturn of your lips, yet it wasn’t done. It shook the wall in front of you, sending the wood creaking and squeaking. Your brows furrowed at the sight, is this all it wanted to lead you to? A wall?
You pressed your hand flat against the wall, softly huffing, all at once you seemed to remeber that sorrow, that anger at your own parents, yoh were just trying to distract with stupid games with some stupid house, a stupid house that you’d stared at every time you passed, a stupid house that you lingered by, a house that was filled with curiosity and joy, but now just felt sorrowful. You placed your forehead against the wAll, closing your eyes and attempting to stop yourself from letting your tears run free. Yet one still rolled down your cheek.
“Y/n! I was wondering when this would happen.” You heard a voice behind you speak up, but you didn’t move, too flustered to care that someone was experience you crying. After a few seconds you could recognize that voice as Camilla, gone was that playful tone, he seemed utterly worried, you could hear it in how worry and frantic ness was laced in his tone. When you had finally pried your eyes open, finally reigned your emotions in enough to not start sobbing, you were met with a shocking sight
A glowing door in place of the wall, reading “y/‘ madrigal”.
“C-Camilo? What?” You questioned, backing o from the door the second you spotted it, you did nothing but hit Camilla chest, and he gripped your shoulder, keeping you in place and pushing you towards it.
“It’s okay- it’s okay. Just open it” he gushed, shoving you forward gently until you stumbled to the door, your initials were engraved on the doorknob. It was pretty, but it didn’t feel real. Why would this be happening, maybe this is a dream. You stared at the door skeptically, and reached your hand out, skeptically, but before you did anything (also skeptically) your attention was drawn to a voice.
“But today isn’t just a day for antoñio, we have someone special, someone new!” You were able to recognized the voice as Abuelas, seconds after the announcement, there was a bright spotlight on you, and you brought your hand away from the door to shield your eyes.
“Dear y/n has been bruised, neglected, and hated for all of her life. Pobre pequeña Bebe. We’re giving her a new life! A new chance to be loved!” Abuela announced and splayed her arms out, her demanding voice sparked motivation in the eyes of the citizens. They all stared at you in pure awe for a few moments, then the crowd erupted in cheers, screaming for you. It’s not like it wasn’t obvious how miserable you were, they see Bruno more than you, and they don’t even talk about him!
Now you were utterly confused, if you refused this, and went down the stairs, then you would be either seen as 1. A coward, or 2. A sign of bad luck on the village, it would weaken the magic. But if you said yes, then… we’ll you don’t know what’s gonna happen. The cheers of the drunken adults and hyper children VILLE dyour head, and you did nothing but freeze. It wasn’t until a warm hand pressed on your shoulder that you snapped out of it, you spun around to meet the living gaze of mirabel and Camilo, along with Luisa. They stared at you for a few good long moments before Luisa spoke up.
“Open the door, la casita is never wrong, it knows what you want cariña, just open it” she softly spoke, which was odd because there was nothing soft about this woman. She looked her hands under your arms and placed you back in front of the door, which you continued to stare at. Her hand rested at the small of your back, almost threatening that it would help you open it if you didn’t do it yourself.
So, yoh reluctantly raised your hand to the doorknob, and twisted it. The second you did the door swung open completely. Revealing… a room. Your room. Well, your NEW room. It was calm, peaceful, it somehow appeared to have no curling, like the cielimg was the night sky full of stars. Bells hung from nonexistent hooks and they jungles as cool wind blew by. A bed was centered in the middle of the room, huge and white, with small stuffed animals scattered about.
The cheers behind the door became louder for a moment, but were completely shut out when the three young teens came into the room behind her. You flew around to meet their gazes, about to be extremely angry with them, but… isn’t this what you had wanted in the end? To be part of the family, to get rid of your jealousy?
“I-I don’t understand”
“It’s okay honey- you don’t have to understand, just let us take care of you, let us give you the love you never got” Luisa smiled and picked you up gently, for someone so broad and menacing her touch sure is comforting. You weren’t that much younger than her really, although you were the same age as mirabel, it felt odd to be called “honey”, either because it was coming from her, or you’d never felt that before.
“This… is crazy. Absolutely loca” you huffed out, more to yourself than anyone elsestaring around at the peaceful room. Mirabel couldn’t help but smile at your amazement, she couldn’t blame you for being so cute, but sometimes it distracted her. You were absolutely adorable. She made her way around to you while the other two stared at you with love, pulling you towards the bed, and closer to her, she remarked:
“You know, I’ve always wanted a baby sister, I’m the youngest so it’s only natural. This is so amazing! I finally get to have you!” She smiled and tugged you close, wrapping her arms fully around you, and pulling your head into her chest. You stiffened at the touch, unsure what to do with your own hands. Do you hug back or stand still? Or do you wrap your arms around too? What do you do what do you do what do you do what do you do.
“It’s okay. Those terrible parents of yours never taught you how to be lived, but you’ll get used to it. Just let yourself relax cariña, we’ll take care of the rest. No one will bother you while you’re here” Camilo remarked, now at mirabels side, he stroked your head and grabbed one of your hands to wrap around the girls waist. at the mention of your parents you perked up, in the midst of all this chaos you’d forgotten about them! Holy crap they totally saw you being admitted or whatever into this family! Oh they’re gonna be so pissed with you.
“I’m sorry camilo. B-But I can’t stay here, I can’t be part of this family. I’m not part of this family. I have parents, and even if they don’t treat me like… like this, I love them” at that their bright smiles dropped, you didn’t even notice it, but it was like a light switch turned off behind their eyes, and now all that was left was a dark, creepy look. Camilo brought his finger to your mouth to shush you, feigning hurt the entire way through.
“Love is only real if it’s mutual. We love you, and we all know you love us. You don’t have to be scared of them anymore. I’ll- we’ll protect you” his finger stayed on your lips as he said this, a menacing smile plastered across his face. Somethings wrong here. You just couldn’t place what. Of course they knew that your parents probably would be upset that you are part of them now, that is if they were alive, if they weren’t being turned into mush by isabelas flowers at the moment.
“I know but- I just have to work and they’ll be mad if I can’t an-“
“Hush, you’re too small to work, just let us all take care of you. The village doesn’t have any objections, they love you as much as we do. Just let us have you okay? Well keep you safe! Well love you” mirabel piped in, now taking her own turn in shushing your, it was quite odd how she called you little, when in reality you were only a few months younger than her, and maybe a few inches shorter. Huh. Weird.
“But-“
“I said stop. You aren’t going back. They’re gone, they left the second you became one of us, they don’t care” Luisa spoke for the first time again, her words shut you up right away. It made you sink into murabels chest, it made tears cloud up in your eyes as you failed at keeping them in. It made your heart beat faster. Would they- could they even do that to you? Why?
“Oh.” You spoke, and as Luisa stroked your back, Camilo held your hands and kissed them, and mirabel hugged you, all on top of a big fluffy bed. All of your tears and pain seeped out, and you cried into them. All of the sadness built up over the years of neglect, of never feeling enough, of jealousy, all that rage channeled at your biological family for never even trying to be good. It flowed freely out of your body in the form of tears, Luisa held you close as you cried, completely unbothered. Sympathy showed on all three of their faces. Yet they kept checking at the door, maybe for Abuela, or one of the parents.
They didn’t mind sitting like this, sitting with you, for a while though. It was nice to comfort you.
After all
You are their true baby sister

greets you with cheek kisses! everyday, everytime.
she adores every bit of you and will take it personally if you have doubts about yourself, whether it be inside or outside.
but if that’s the case, she will smother you with kisses and love and remind you everyday that you’re beautiful beyond everyone else in the whole of encanto.
she literally thinks you’re a goddess, and she’s right, you are.
she introduced you to her sisters and parents before the rest of the family. her sisters love you and consider you like another sister.
julieta loves you like another daughter and can’t wait to help plan the wedding. she loves to tease isabela about it and always gets a blush out of her.
mirabel and camilo love to tease the both of you.
camilo does that fake making out thing with the hands on the back when you two are alone in any room.
isabela asked you out on one of your picnics and now it’s yours and her special spot.
a habit she got from growing up to be “perfect”, she tends to think she has to be the perfect girlfriend and if she does anything wrong, she thinks she might as well end it.
so, she will need a lot of reassurance that she’s wonerderful and is allowed to make mistakes.
saying that, words of affirmation is her love language!
“hermosa, i love you to la luna and back.”

dating cami | camilo x gn!reader
tw: this is so disgustingly cheesy ew
he is definitely in love with you, very much in love with you
he confessed very simply but made it very special, a small date in a place away from town, alone, after a long talk of feelings, life, whatever
"but well, we are young and worse things will happen to us, right?" you smiled, turning your head to look at him, you were lying next to him on the grass
"yeah, i guess..." he also turned around, now your faces were just inches apart "i really like you."
"i like you too, i really do."
his heart racing, he tried to calm himself but a stupid, love-filled smile appeared on his lips as he turned completely towards you, resting his head in his two hands. "not like this, i- i'm in love with you."
you were surprised, of course, but his words also made you so happy
his heart was pounding, waiting for an answer. he parted his lips a little to say something but he couldn't and just waited
you blushed as a smile appeared on your face, you turned around as you laughed. camilo sighed, laughing too "what does that mean?"
"what? well, that, i'm in love with you" he kept laughing.
he cherished these moments, unconsciously smiling more at the thought of how good you made him feel. "i'm in love with you too."
he covered his face with his hands, he didn't expect to blush more, he couldn't see himself but he could feel his face burning
he sighed but immediately his breathing shortened as he felt you wrap your arms around him in an embrace, you passed your arms around his neck and he was soon clinging to your waist tightly, smiling into the crook of your neck as he unconsciously pulled you on top of him
you separated a little to see his face, he was still smiling and still blushing, he tightened his grip on your waist. "give me a kiss" he murmured
you didn't hesitate to do so, bringing your lips together in a kiss. it was short, but you made sure to get close enough to him
he let out a chuckle as he let go of your waist and took your face in both hands, pulling you into a deeper kiss. he pulled you as close as he could, not letting you go until you were both out of breath
and again, again, again
neither of you two stopped smiling all afternoon, camilo walked absentmindedly around the house with a smile on his face, giggling at the memory of you and the scene in general, everyone noticed.
"camilo, why so happy?" alma asked as she took a seat, camilo held back a giggle as he looked at his grandmother "nothing, just, life. don't you think life is nice? i smile at life."
earned funny looks from the whole family, but attention quickly turned to dolores, who squealed.
"he confessed to (y/n), everything went well and now they are dating."
the family took it well, especially after seeing how happy the boy was. there was a comment or two that they wanted you to go to dinner, but it wasn't the most important thing
so you may already know that camilo has a joking personality, but that is the part he shows to everyone, secretly he is very romantic and attentive, maybe he is a little silly sometimes but that doesn't take away that he is a gentleman just like his father, he learned from the best
loves spending time with you, you usually only greet him when he is babysitting as usual and he reminds you that at 6 o'clock you will meet him at a certain place
your dates are quiet, where he can spend time with you, hold you in his arms or vice versa while you talk about anything, most of the time you bring food with you
i swear this guy never runs out of conversation topics, he can even talk about how funny it is that the leaf he just plucked from the ground is perfectly folded
and if you guys are just relaxing in his room, he definitely wants your hands on him. play with his hair, count his freckles, whatever, camilo loves to be loved by you
he doesn't forget important dates, he has a worn out notebook where he writes down things he feels he should read often and there are dates like your anniversary, your birthday, things like that.
whatever, you guys are so cute and in love, pepa loves you both so much but dolores is so tired of listening to you both that she wants to tear her ears off every time you start. anyway she is happy for her little brother, she knows he loves you very much and appreciates you a lot
antonio loves you so much! he likes you very much, especially for the fact that you make his brother happy but also because you agree to play with him, so yes, the boy approves of you. and felix too, he is proud of his son and has grown fond of you because of how much camilo talks about you
i got tired, but well, i started writing this and didn't stop. english is not my first language so sorry if something is over written or doesn't make sense, you can correct me if you want to <3

pairing: camilo madrigal x gn reader
req: no | wc: 525 | hurt/comfort | set after the magic is gone and before casita is rebuilt
summary: Camilo could be anyone he wanted, so what made “Camilo” Camilo? What was there to them if they didn’t have a gift?
a/n: reader knows spanish, he/him pronouns for Camilo because the pronoun they is used to refer to the town in general.
Camilo didn’t like being alone, least of all without you. Still, he thinks now is the moment to have alone time. There’s a lot in his mind, like a suitcase filled to the brim, about to burst unless an item is taken away and reevaluated.
There were many things to think about, casita being broken, tío Bruno coming back, and above all, his gift being gone.
What…what was he going to do without it? He’s had it for the majority of his conscious life, and he’s always used it, every day and damn well near every hour.
People liked him, because of his gift. They always wanted him to be a tall, strong man, a caring mother, or a kid’s playmate. They never wanted him to be himself, Camilo Madrigal; He wasn’t their Camilo, he was their little chameleon. They wanted him to be someone else, someone he wasn’t. For the longest time, Camilo had come to unstable terms with it, and now that he didn’t have his gift, now that he couldn’t masquerade as someone else, he was a nobody.
He was practically bursting at the seams.
He uses his hands to put himself back together, grasping at his face as if it could help. “They like you, Camilo.” He tries to reassure himself. “They like you for you.”
His breaths are raggedy, shaking now.
Who even was Camilo anyway? Was he a tall handyman? A mother to rely on? A comedian to share a laugh with? He wasn’t even sure if there was enough of him to love.
He laughs. Why was he laughing?
“Camilo?” That… wasn’t him.
“You there?” He turns to you, which turns out to be a big mistake as he reveals his mess of a face to you. Perhaps if he looked like the perfect Isabela, you wouldn’t have said the next few words, “Oh, Camilo… are you alright?”
“Y-Yeah,” He gulps back a sob, “I’m alright.” He was alright, he was just peachy. Yes, that’s who he was, the stable Camilo.
“You’re…” You reach forward to grasp at his hands, but he pulls back, afraid, “not. You’re not alright.” Who were you to tell him how he was? “Camilo, por favor, what’s going on?” (please,)
“Am I…” What was he saying? “who you want me to be?”
“Amor, sí, sí, of course you are.” You say without skipping a beat. “You’re the love of my life, I-” (Love, yes, yes,)
But he cuts you off anyway, “Who did you fall in love with?”
“Camilo.” Madrigal, he adds in his mind. “I fell in love with Camilo, the person that caught my eye, the one with the kindest smile I’ve ever seen, laugh of an angel’s…” You take his hand in yours now, and he allows it. “I fell in love with you, not anyone else.”
With him, yes, with him.
Camilo breaks down, tears flow down his cheeks freely and his breath hinders and hiccups, but you’re here. You’re here to wipe it all away.
“Eres Camilo,” You press soft kisses to the tops of his closed eyelids, “mi cielo,” the tip of his nose and the tenderness that are his lips, “y mi vida.” (You're Camilo, my sky and my life.)
“¿Tuyo?” (Yours?)
“Si me tendrás.” (If you'll have me.)

How you and Camilo get together:
Parings: Camilo Madrigal x GN! Reader
Type: Flufff
A/N: Not Proofread, Day 2 of craving to watch Encanto but it comes out next week. Anyways Enjoyyyyy. Also feel free to send requests for Camiloooo.
You were just a normal teen doin normal things. You babysat for new parents or parents who just needed a break in general and you got paid for doing so. You always felt guilty taking the money simply because these parents truly did need a break but nonetheless you were thankful and they wouldn’t let you walk away without the money anyways.
One day you had been taking care of baby Ayla. She wasn’t a very fussy baby. She was strapped to your chest as you walked around the village doing other minor chores. Camilo had seen you walking around with the baby. Something about you was magnetizing. He watch you for a little bit watching you buy groceries and other little items while you cooed to the baby.
When you cooed toward the baby trying to keep her calm or just any parent like act he would feel some sort of fondness. Heart starts beating fast and a blush starts to rise. When you turned the baby around so she could see everyone around her was when the baby screeched happily. You laugh because all Ayla wanted was to see people. Camilo smiled with a blush.
“So... you gonna keep staring like a creep?”
Camilo looks to the right quickly and shocked. Mirabel stood there with an eyebrow raised. Their eyes wide
“Whatdidyouwantmetodo!”
He said in one breathe. Mirabel purses her lips and looks back at you who was starting to walk further away while greeting passing people.
“Talk to them... unless you’re a scaredy cat?” She teases them in a childish way. He deadpans and squints their eyes at her.
“That’s not nice and I’M NOT A SCAREDY CAT” He pouts as she shrugs,
“I don’t know primo I think you are” She says in a sarcastic way.
He look away back to where you were standing only to see you missing. He blinks a couple of times before looking around. Mirabel sighs and points to you almost out of sight. He hurriedly walks towards you.
You were looking at some random stuff a merchant was selling. He slowly approached you and got frightened when you moved away. At one point he and Ayla were having a staring contest. He lost... then transformed into you which caused Ayla’s eyes to widen as she looked between Camilo and you, making a weird noise as she tried to gain your attention.
That’s when you felt someone tap your shoulder only to see your own face. You gasp in surprise. Camilo quickly reverted back to himself. Ayla then furrows her brows and looks at Camilo and you in disbelief. You look down at her and smile while smoothing out her hair.
“Camilo what a surprise” You smile at them. Camilo freezes for a second. Both just staring at each other for a second. You blink a couple times and look away awkwardly.
“Uhhhh Camilo?” He snaps out of their daydream, embarrassed.
“H-Hi”
“Hi” You smile, “Did you need anything?”
He shakes their head “NO” he blurts out but quickly clears their throat and makes up an excuse.
“No no I just wanted to see how you and baby Ayla were doing.”
“Oh well we’re doing great. Just doing a little shopping!”
He nods then silence again. You continue looking around while he lingers behind staring at you. Their crush on you growing more and more. You look behind and seem them staring at you with a cute smile.
You blush and look down at the baby. You take a deep breathe before turning around and tugging on their ruana.
“Wanna come with me to drop Ayla off? Its time for her to go home”
He nods and guides the 3 of you to the new families home. The new parents welcome you guys in and you get Ayla out of the carrier and hand her to her mother. Camilo is watching the interaction with a soft smile. He always had a soft spot for children. After saying goodbye, you both left.
“Do you want to talk about how your cousins were staring at us all day?”
He tilts his head “You didn’t notice??” He shakes their head no. You look at them surprised “Wow” then on cue Dolores finds her way to you guys “Camilo finally gonna confess?” their eyes widen “What?” He squeaks. “Yeah you know tell them you like them?” Camilo tight lips and looks to their side at you who is just watching the interaction amused but them the words actually catch up to them. You form a 0 with your mouth. You turn towards them.
“You...like...me??” He shyly nods while you smile widely and grab his hands “Wow this is exciting” He blinks a couple of times blushing at the sudden contact,
“W-why?” you look around for a sec then back at him “Oh I don’t know maybe because I like you also?” He freezes as if he’s dreaming, face becoming so red he could be compared to a tomato. Dolores smirks and takes her leave, she can cross of revenge for teasing her and Mariano off the list.
He then comes back to earth and smiles cutely. “D-date?” You smile softly “Of course” He loops their arm across your waist pulling you close he starts going on and on about what your first date should be and you finally come to an agreement to sit under the big tree at the edge of the town and watch the stars. Then he ends it with a quick kiss on the cheek,
“My Mama and Papa will love you!” You giggle and nod, letting them lead the way.

“Isa, I need flowers,”
Isabela jumped startled. She snapped her head towards the sudden voice but quickly calmed down once she noticed to whom it belonged. She faced her friend. “Oh, hi Y/N.” Isabela smiled at her and Y/N returned the gesture. Her smile didn’t quite reach her eyes though.
“Hi. I need flowers,” she repeated.
If it was any other person, Isabela would get offended by the impatience. But it was Y/N. The girl that rarely showed any emotions with a face always adorned with a stoic expression. Isabela stared at her friend. The fidgeting with her feet and pulling on the hem of her skirt didn’t go unnoticed by the oldest Madrigal kid. She might not identify as Señorita Perfecta anymore, but she still had the ability to point out even the slightest changes in one’s behavior. That girl was nervous.
“You need flowers? What kind?” Isa asked, the corner of her mouth lifting a bit. She crossed her arms as Y/N pondered over her answer. Isabela decided to help her a bit. She opened her arms before the teen and soon all kinds of flowers grew from her palms. Orchids, daisies, tulips, poppies.
“No, not these,” Y/N said after examining the plants. She tapped her chin a few times, before looking back at the young woman. “Roses.”
“Roses?” Isa exclaimed. Her smile grew wider. She shook off the remaining petals and soon she was holding a beautiful bouquet of red roses. Y/N looked at each rose but shook her head unsatisfied.
“No,” she stated. “not this color.”
“Then what color do you need?” Isa sighed. She pinched the bridge of her nose feeling the annoyance growing inside of her. She should’ve known better that it was going to go that way. No interaction with Y/N was ever a “straight to the point” one.
“I don’t know, I don’t remember what this type of roses is called,” Y/N shrugged, completely ignoring Isa’s annoyed state. “I think it was something like Jac… Jacquin?”
“Oh, you mean General Jacqueminots!” Isa exclaimed. “Hold on.”
The annoyance quickly disappeared as Isa took the red roses. She gently touched each of the flowers and soon their petals brightened a bit. The roses were now dark pink.
“There you go, amiga,” the woman said with a slight bow. She handed Y/N the bouquet. The girl took it and brought it up to her nose. The sweet smell filling her nostrils. She felt her cheeks warm up and she knew they matched the color of the roses she was holding. Gorgeous flowers, but it’s not like she expected anything less from the gifted girl.
“So,” Isa wondered, elbowing her friend. “who’s the lucky person?”
Y/N came back to reality. Her stoic expression reappearing as she looked at Isabela.
“Someone very special. Adiós Isa,” she stated and kissed Isa’s cheek as a goodbye. She rushed past the girl avoiding further investigation.
Isa stared at her figure. “I might have an idea who that special someone is,” she sang to herself.
“Señorita Isabela, could you make us some flower crowns?” a group of kids run up to her tugging on her dress. She looked at them, a few daisies blossoming from her palms. “Of course niños,”
—
Later that day, once Isabela finished all her chores, she spared no time in getting back to her house. She sprinted to Casita with a speed that put Antonio’s jaguar’s to shame. The house waved its roof tiles at her, but she was too excited to notice the greeting. She stopped in the middle of the house looking around. She panted out of breath, but was smiling nevertheless.
“Hola, Cariña. What’s gotten into you?”
Isabela turned her head and saw her father coming out of the kitchen. Augustín chuckled lightly seeing his oldest daughter in such an unruly state. It’s been some time since Isa stopped caring about perfection, but the messy hair and smudged eyeshadow, that sweat from running so fast melted, was a sight Augustín still found bizarre. He loved this new side of her though.
“Hola papi,” Isa breathed out. “Just looking for everyone else.”
Her father hummed and pointed at the first floor. “They should be up in the nursery. Do your mother a favor and tell them dinner is almost ready,”
“Thanks papá!” Isa shouted already on the stairs.
Without knocking, she practically stormed into the room making everyone’s heads snap towards her. She counted five heads. Just like her dad said, everyone was here. Spending time in Mirabel’s room became a frequent thing among the younger generation. They decided to catch up on all these years and bonding in the smallest yet coziest room in the house was the perfect way to do that.
“What’s up with you?” Mirabel asked with a raised brow. That huge grin on Isa’s face could either mean something really good or really bad. No inbetween.
“Oh, nothing.” Isa waved her sister off. Isabela picked up Antonio and sat in his place putting the smallest Madrigal on her lap. These two weirdly became really close, so affection was a frequent thing among them. Antonio paid no mind to Isa, he just cuddled to her side like it was the most natural thing in the world.
“What are we talking about?” she asked, trying to sound casual. The rest of the kids looked at one another before shrugging it off.
“Just wondering when Mariano will propose,” Luisa explained. “Again.”
“Yeah, he already asked Dolores four times,” Camilo chuckled. Isa looked at her prima amused. Dolores smacked her lips. “I keep telling him it’s too early, but he just doesn’t get it,”
“I’ll bet he’ll have asked you again by the end of the week,” Mirabel said.
“Pfft, more like by tomorrow,” the shapeshifter scoffed.
Dolores put a finger to her lips making everyone shut their mouth and stare at the girl. She put a hand to her ear listening intensely. After a moment the girl sighed. “Camilo won,”
The said teen smiled smugly at his youngest cousin, who in return stuck her tounge out. Isabela coughed into her palm.
“So,” she tapped her fingers. “while we’re on the topic of love and couples and stuff…”
“What are you up to?” Luisa asked her.
“Nothing!” she said trying to sound offended, but the smile she couldn’t contain betrayed her. “I just had an interesting interaction with certain someone earlier today and I was wondering if any of you happened to receive some flowers? Per se… My dear primo over here?”
Everyone turned to look at Camilo who himself had a shocked expression on his face. “Wha-what are you talking about? I’ve no flowers,” he said, cheeks and nose pink. Once again, five pair of eyes looked at Isa. It started to look like a pendulum. Her expression fell slightly.
He’s just embarrassed and doesn’t want to confess. Isabela reassured herself.
Of course the flowers were for him. She couldn’t possibly think of anyone else. Y/N and Camilo were close. Closer than regular friends would be. Only around him did her stoic façade disappear. Her eyes would become more lively, her body language more relaxed and at ease. Her lips always curved into a small but genuine smile whenever he was around. It seemed that for Camilo that smiled reached her eyes, only for him. Isa rooted for the pair and she got the whole family to do so as well. Ever since Dolores heard Camilo say something that made Y/N laugh (thing that Isa deemed impossible) the flower growing girl knew her little friend had it bad for her primo. Isabela was a hopeless romantic. She loved seeing people in love, especially when they were people she was close with. Seeing Dolores so in love with Mariano was probably the start of her little love is in the air phase. Was it even a phase? Maybe the two lovebirds that was her prima and ex fiance had just awakened something in her that was always there. Just hidden deep. That’s why when she noticed the red cheeks and lovesick glances between Y/N and Camilo, she started growing daisies and pulling on their petals muttering to herself he loves her…he loves her not…she loves him…she loves him not, hopeful these two would finally get together. Her brain just couldn’t accept the fact any of them could have feelings for someone else.
“Okay, then…” she trailed off squinting her eyes suspiciously. “Oh, dinner is ready by the way.”
Isa stood up abruptly making Antonio yelp in surprise and fall onto the bed. Mirabel looked at her cousins and Luisa with a confused face. Everyone else just shrugged not knowing what was that about as well. They followed Isabela out of the room.
—
“Ay, Camilo!” Pepa groaned at her oldest son.
He just slid onto a chair next to Isa, the one his mom wanted to sit on. Camilo just smiled sheepishly at his mother knowing she can’t get mad at him for too long. The woman rolled her eyes and sat on the chair next to him. The few small clouds that formed themselves above her head, fading away as her brother Bruno started telling her a story. Isa observed that scene with a confused look and mouth full of empanadas. She turned her attention back to her plate, but not for too long.
“Isa,” Camilo hissed. “What the hell was that in the nursery? With whom did you have an interesting interaction? What flowers?”
“It’s okay, primo. No need to be embarrassed.” she winked at him. Camilo cleared his throat.
“No, I don’t think you understand. I have no clue what you’re talking about. No one gave me flowers!” he said slightly annoyed. And slightly too loud. Everyone looked at the pair with puzzled looks on their faces. Camilo laughed awkwardly and Isa smiled nervously. The family hesitantly went back to their meals or conversing with the relative next to them. Isabela put down her empanada in disbelief. Did he really not get the roses? Then who did? Isa was so sure the bouquet was meant for her primo, it would never occur to her that she could've been wrong. Was there really someone else? But who?
“Are you sure? Like absolutely sure? ” she asked hoping that he was just messing with her. Knowing Camilo, he probably was. But her hopes were quickly destroyed as Camilo nodded.
Oh, no.
“So you didn’t get the General Jacqueminots? The dark pink roses?” she whispered looking ahead. Like she wasn’t asking but making the situation clear.
“No, what even are those?”
“Beautiful flowers, the meaning of mellow love,” she whispered, her gaze spaced out. Camilo blinked a few times leaning against the chair’s backrest. “And… Who asked you for those?” he asked, biting his lip in worry. He was afraid he already knew the answer to that.
“Y/N did,”
He lost his appetite.
—
It turned out that the situation with flowers wasn’t a one time thing. Y/N didn’t leave Isa alone for the next week or so. Every morning she would find her on the plaza, tap her shoulder making Isabela jump, ask for flowers and flee before Isa could question her. Same place, same time, same conversation. The only thing that differed was the kind of the plants. Y/N never asked for the same type twice. Each day Isa was tasked to grow a new bouquet. After the General Jacqueminots, she asked for Wild Pansies. Then Isa created a bouquet of Cornflowers. Next were Peach Blossoms. She also gave Y/N some Ivy Geraniums, Cedars and Gorses.
And when kids would ask her for flower crowns, she’d respond with “I wish, but I’m in a hurry niños,”. After daily interaction with Y/N, Isa would run back to Casita. She herself had no idea where that speed was coming from. Once home, she’d knock on the shapeshifter’s door and without waiting for an invitation she’d storm into his room. Camio realized she knocked to announce herself rather than ask for permission to come in.
“Jeez, Isa!” he shouted the first time she did that, visibly startled at the sudden appearance of his oldest cousin.
“She ordered Wild Pansies!” Isa breathed out ignoring Camilo’s annoyed expression. The boy covered his face with his arms groaning.
“And why are you telling me this?” he ran his hands through his locks.
“Oh, please.” Isa crossed her arms. “It's clear as day that you like her.”
Camilo pressed his lips together. “Not true,” he lied. Isa squinted her eyes and Camilo did the same. Their staring contest didn’t last long as Isabela’s sharp glare eventually made Camilo lose as he shifted into Y/N then himself, then back to Y/N and back to himself out of nervousness. Isabela grinned in victory.
“Okay, fine,” Camilo muttered. “but it doesn’t matter. She clearly likes someone else.”
“Yeah, that’s why I’m telling you what flowers she asked for,” Isa explained, but rolled her eyes when Camilo looked at her puzzled. “We’re gonna figure out who that is.”
The shapeshifter’s eyes widened in realization. He reached for a piece of paper and took out a pen. “What flowers did you say she got?”
Everyday Camilo would add a new flower, or a clue as Isa called them, to his list. Isabela then would tell him what each plant meant.
General Jacqueminots - mellow love
Wild Pansies - think of me
Cornflowers - hope in love
Peach Blossoms - this heart is thine
Ivy Geraniums - your hand for the next dance
Cedars - I live for thee
Gorses - endearing affection
Every night Camilo would stare at the piece of paper before falling asleep. His mind was clouded with only one question that repeated itself on and on like a broken record. Who was this mysterious person that his Y/N, his luz de sol, fell for? Did he know them? Has he ever shapeshifted into them? Should he shapeshift into them? Maybe that’s how he could get her to- no. It wouldn’t be fair to either of them.
The longer Y/N’s request for flowers went on, the more Camilo became agitated and confused. He couldn’t stop pacing around his room waiting for Isa to come back from the plaza.
The next two bouquets Isabela grew, might’ve been her least favorite she ever created. Y/N asked for Moss Rosebuds and when she received them, she basically skipped across the plaza. Isa looked at her happy state. It was probably the first time seeing someone so content made her so sad. And if it wasn’t already bad enough, Y/N came back to the plaza moments later. Isa was surprised, she had yet to ask for two bouquets in one day. Isa felt the anxiety building in her stomach when Y/N told her she needed another batch of flowers. But that anxiety almost turned to tears as the name of the plants came out of Y/N’s mouth - Ambrosias.
This time Isabela didn’t run to Casita. She barely even walked there, it was really more trudging. She walked into her primo’s room with her head down. Camilo sat up on his bed alarmed knowing that didn’t make Isa a bearer of good news. Rather the exact opposite.
“Moss Rosebuds - confession of love,” she choked out. Camilo bit his lip preventing himself from tearing up and reached for the note as he didn’t expect Isa to continue. “and Ambrosias-”
“She got two bouquets?” he exclaimed genuinely surprised. Isa nodded with pressed lips.
“Ambrosias mean love returned,” she managed to say. “I’m sorry.”
Camilo didn’t come down for dinner that night.
—
“Isa,” Y/N tapped the girl’s shoulder. “I need new flowers.”
Isa not only jumped, but also screamed. A bunch of colorful daisies popped out on her head.
“Y/N! How did you find me?”
That morning Isa didn’t go to the plaza as usual. She decided to relax in her makeshift garden. She promised herself that she’ll grow something herself, without the use of her powers. So far it was going splendidly. She watered the garden herself, without asking Tía Pepa for help. She carried the bags with fertilizer herself, without the help of her sister Luisa. And she took care of bugs and pests herself, without asking Antonio to talk to them. Most of the seeds she planted have already started to sprout. It was hard work, but so rewarding. Mostly because she was doing it for herself. No one - except Antonio and probably Dolores - knew about this garden that has become Isa’s happy place. That’s why seeing Y/N here, looking so casually, got her incredibly confused.
“Antonio said his hummingbird saw you here, so I came,” she explained. “I have another flower request.”
“No.” Isa crossed her arms and looked down at the girl with a stern look. Y/N’s eyes widened slightly. She pressed her lips into a thin line. “What do you mean no?”
“I mean, no, I won’t grow any flowers for you,”
“Why not?”
“Because you won’t even tell me who they’re for.” she pointed her watering can at her accusingly.
Y/N rolled her eyes and looked down. Her fingers found a loose thread on her skirt. Isa shrugged and turned her back to the girl, attention back on her garden.
“I can’t tell you,” Y/N said after a moment of silence.
“Then I won’t give you any flowers,”
Y/N sighed loudly, making Isa scoff. “Okay, fine. I’ll find some Foxgloves myself,” the girl muttered, turning on her heel.
Foxgloves?
Isa felt gears turn in her brain. Foxgloves, foxgloves, foxgloves. She definitely knew the meaning of these particular flowers. Foxgloves, foxgloves, foxgloves. It was a different request, something was off, but what? Foxgloves. Foxgloves! Isa’s eyes widened in realization. Foxgloves meant insincerity!
“Wait!”
Y/N stopped in her tracks turning her head slightly, but still not facing the Madrigal girl.
“I’ll grow Foxgloves for you,”
Y/N blinked at that and then smiled lightly. Once again, the smile did not reach her eyes.
—
Another week of Y/N asking Isa for flowers went by, but this time Isa was more than eager to give her friend requested bouquets. There were times when it was Isabela who would look for Y/N, she just couldn’t wait to hear what plants she had in mind. It was ironic really. Isa was squealing with excitement when Y/N would ask her for flowers like Burdocks, purple Hyacinths and Primroses. Her smile couldn’t get wider when flowers like Lavenders, yellow Lilies, Mourning Brides and Peonies blossomed from her palms. After each new bouquet, Isa would kiss Y/N on the cheek, say her goodbyes and run off. Funny how the tables have turned, with Y/N now being left puzzled in the middle of the plaza and Isabela running before being questioned.
“Write it down, write it down!” she would shake Camilo’s shoulders, unable to contain her excitement. The boy would just swat her hands off, fix his ruana and roll his eyes.
“Dios mío, Isa. It seems that you’re more involved in this relationship than me,” he said on the one but last day of the week. He grabbed his note and pen.
“That’s because I am. You two have been dancing around each other for ages and now finally something is happening. Can’t let you screw it up. You desperately need my help,” she said, flipping her hair. Camilo threw his pen at her.
“Just tell me the name of the flowers and get out.” he pointed at his note.
“Peonies - anger,”
And Camilo added them to his list. He looked at it and read it out loud.
Burdocks - touch me not
Purple Hyacinths - sorrow
Primroses - inconstancy
Lavenders - distrust
Yellow Lilies - falsehood
Mourning Brides - unfortunate attachment
Peonies - anger
And somewhere in the middle of town, Dolores muttered to herself. “This is better than tío Bruno’s telenovelas,”
—
On the next day, Isa strolled around the plaza awaiting her friend’s arrival. She was unusually late. So when she finally spotted her in the crowd, she walked up, not skipped, to her. Isa gently tapped her shoulder. The girl turned and Isa noticed a slight change in her expression. She saw the little shimmer of mischief in her eyes. Being eagle-eyed was sometimes a powerful skill. A thought crossed Isabela’s mind. That maybe there was more to this situation than it seemed. She shook it off and as always asked Y/N what kind of flowers she needed already preparing her hands.
“Yellow Carnations, please,” she said. “and Pennyroyals. Make it a mixed bouquet.”
Isabela stopped in her tracks. She should be happy, right? These flowers didn’t mean anything good, just like the previous ones. And the sooner Y/N and her mysterious partner break it off, the sooner her primo can grow the guts to make a move. But what about Y/N? She got so caught up in interpreting the flowers’ meanings and giving Camilo pep talks, that she forgot to think about her friend. Was she okay? Was she heartbroken? Was her partner that cruel? Whatever that couple was going through, seemed like heavy stuff. Isa knew Y/N was strong and never let anyone do her wrong. She also knew that her friend was an independent girl, she wouldn’t ask for help. Especially when she knew the Madrigals were needed by everyone in town. She would never ask for help with such a petty thing like a relationship. It was something she could deal with herself. But Isa also knew that she didn’t have to. She had people who cared about her and who wanted to help. Isabela was one of them.
She gaped at her friend, worry present in her eyes. Y/N stared back.
“Are you sure, amiga?”
“I am.” Y/N smiled lightly.
Isa saw that mischievous shimmer in her eyes again.
—
Yellow Carnations - disdain
Pennyroyals - flee away
Camilo stared at the newest additions to his list with Isa peering from behind him. He read the names over and over again. He didn’t know whether to feel relieved or worried. He opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He closed it.
“So, what are you gonna do?” Isa asked.
“I don’t know,”
“What do you mean, you don’t know?” the girl scoffed. Her cousin looked at her offended.
“What the hell am I supposed to do?” he looked up at her. “You even sure that these are the correct meanings?”
Isa gasped, placing a hand on her chest. “Never question my flower knowledge,”
Camilo groaned and plopped on his bed. Face covered by his hands. Isabela sighed at his pathetic state. She sat next to him and took the note in her hands.
“Look, it doesn’t matter anymore who that person is. What matters is that she can’t be alone now,” Isa started. Camilo uncovered his face. “We both know that there’s so much going on behind that neutral mask she always wears. Someone needs to be with her right now.”
Camilo nodded lightly. Isabela was right. He stood up and turned to his prima.
“Isa, I need some flowers,”
—
“Isa,” Y/N walked up to the girl. “I got flowers.”
Isa faked a surprised tone. “You did?” Y/N nodded.
“Yeah, Forget-me-nots,” she explained pulling a small bouquet of blue flowers from behind her back. “I found them on my doorstep.”
Isa looked smugly at the blue flowers.
Forget-me-nots - true love and respect
“They’re beautiful,” Isa said examining the flowers. Y/N looked at her with scrunched eyebrows.
“Of course they are, they’re yours,”
Isa’s eyes widened and she stepped back. Words got stuck in her throat. That girl. Did she have a gift as well? Reading minds or something?
“You know?”
Y/N smacked her lips. “I do,” she pulled Isa by her arm. She leaned so her lips were close to her ear. “so for the last time, could you grow flowers for me, please?”
—
Isa, the hopeless romantic that she was, couldn’t keep the smile off of her face. She trusted her legs would take her straight to Casita, as she couldn’t tear her eyes off of the bouquet she was holding. Nutmeg Geraniums were resting in her palms. That day she wasn’t just the giver, but also the deliverer. Y/N asked her to give the bouquet to Camilo. An actual love story was unfolding itself right in front of her. She didn’t even feel any shame as a bunch of ideas for a novel title were crossing her mind. Isa was so glad that no one in her family had the ability to hear thoughts. Feeling the path under her feet get familiar, she fastened her pace. Walking through the door, she absent-mindly greeted her parents, who looked at one another puzzled. She walked into Camilo’s room, without knocking as usual, and handed him the flowers.
“Woah, why am I getting a bouquet?” he asked. Camilo’s nose twitched slightly at the overwhelming scent that filled his nose.
“It’s a response to yours,” Isa explained. “Nutmeg Geraniums - I expect a meeting.”
Once again, Camilo didn’t come down for dinner, but only because he was off to meet his beloved.
—
He didn’t have to think twice about where he’d find her. Y/N had this place, that she used to clear her head. No one knew about it, that is until one day she invited Camilo to join her. He felt so honored that day. Ever since they would meet up there when other people’s presence was just too overwhelming. Y/N cherished the time spent alone, but she preferred being alone with Camilo even more. Did that make sense? Not important. So that was where Camilo went, under the bridge between the village and Casita.
Just like he suspected, Y/N was there. Sitting by the shore, with her feet splashing in the water. He stopped mere meters away from her. His eyes scanned her figure. The faint light of the setting sun was illuminating one side of her body. Her hair glistened, her face got brighter, but at the same time, some parts of her got dimmed. Like she was being hugged by her own shadow. Magical view. She was magical, almost unreal. And that came from someone with magic flowing in their veins.
“Hi,” he said gently. Camilo sat down next to her. Y/N looked at him.
“Hi,”
“Everything okay?” he asked, his hand making its way to his neck.
“Oh, yeah. Splendid,” she responded.
That caught Camilo off guard. He swore he could hear her smirking while saying that. He looked at her and realized he was right. Y/N was in fact smiling mischievously.
“Wha- are you laughing?”
His confusion jest grew more, as he saw her shoulders shaking a bit. Then he heard snickers coming out of her mouth. Oh, she was laughing all right.
“N-no,” she choked out, but then burst into laughter. “Okay, yeah. Maybe a little.” Camilo looked around. His mouth opening and closing, he looked like a fish out of water. Y/N just laughed more.
“Oh, god…” she wiped a tear. “I came up with quite a story, didn’t I?”
Camilo just got more confused if that was even possible. Then he noticed something on Y/N’s lap. Flowers. Not just any flowers, Ambrosias, Wild Pansies, Cornflowers, Peach Blossoms, General Jacqueminots. She was tying the stalks together making a flower crown. The girl followed his gaze.
“Yeah, I kept them. Wouldn’t want Isa’s hard work go to waste,” she shrugged.
And then it hit him. She was not giving these bouquets to her partner, because she didn’t have one. He facepalmed mentally. He should’ve known sooner. His sister not once did mention anything about Y/N being with someone and knowing her love for gossip she would’ve done that a long time ago. Y/N didn’t fall in love and break up with someone. She was just messing with him.
Just.
Messing.
With him.
What a jerk.
“Oh my god…” he whispered, eyes wide. “You’re cruel.”
“Aw, thank you cariño,” she cooed. Camilo tried to ignore the way his heart did a backflip at that pet name.
“You-you can’t just do that! You tricked me! You tricked Isa! Who does that?”
“Me. I do that,” she cut him off. “Relax, consider this me paying you back for all the pranks.”
Camilo opened his mouth to respond, but Y/N covered his mouth with her hand making Camilo blush even more. She placed the finished flower crown on his head and nodded satisfied.
“Pretty,” she breathed out. Camilo felt the anger disappear, he was still a little disappointed though.
Camilo’s eyes fixed themselves on the girl next to him. He stared at her hands that were toying with the remaining flowers and petals that fell off. He took a deep breath in and coughed to gain her attention.
“So, you’re not heartbroken?” he asked awkwardly when she turned to look at him.
“No,”
“And no one actually received the flowers?”
“No. Well, you did, just now,”
“And you’re not in love with anyone?”
Y/N took a second to respond to this. “I am.” she looked to the side but pointed at the flower crown. Camilo’s cheeks were probably redder than Dolores’ skirt by now. He bit his lip, but a little smile made its way to his lips.
“I’m not good with words, you know that. So I tried something else. I know Isa was rooting for us, hence the flowers. But you wouldn’t like that unless there was a little bit of messing around,” she explained after a minute or two.
“You call that a little bit?”
“Sorry,”
“Jeez and I was taking notes like some dumbass,” he pulled out a folded piece of paper.
“Let me see. I wanna know if you got them right.” she scanned the note. She stopped at Ivy Geraniums. “Oops.”
“What?”
“I didn’t know that’s what they meant,” she deadpanned. “I must have mistaken them for Roses Geraniums.”
“And what do those mean?”
“Preference? I think.” the pair looked at each other before bursting into laughter.
After calming down, Camilo reached his hand across Y/N’s lap. Not noticing the pink hue that adorned her face when he did so, he picked up one of the flowers.
“Well, just to be clear… Here.” he handed her a single Ambrosia with a smug look. So proud of himself for remembering the meaning of the flower. Y/N took it and used it to cover her face that was now way redder. A lovesick grin made its way to her lips.
“Okay.” she giggled stupidly. Oh, he finally got her flustered. Camilo absolutely loved that, that power he had now. She often took off her mask, that stoic façade, when around him and Camilo considered that luck. But now, now that he knew he was the only person she showed her true colors to, he would say it was a blessing.
“So,” Y/N picked up one flower and stood up. “May I have this dance then?”
She offered him her hand that was holding a single Ivy Geranium. Camilo grinned and accepted it. He wrapped his hand around her waist and pulled her closer to him. He took the flower and put it behind her ear. His eyes not once leaving hers. Camilo felt his heart skip a beat, when he saw Y/N shyly lowering her gaze to his lips. She leaned closer then leaned back a bit. So he decided to take the initiative and close the distance between them. Pulling her by the waist with the help of his other hand, he placed his lips on hers. And when he felt her kiss back, he almost started shapeshifting out of excitement. But he didn’t because that’s how she worked on him. She took off her mask when around him and he didn’t feel the need to put one on. Not once when with her did he feel like he needed to be someone else. Y/N was his escape from the life of the boy with thousand faces.
After breaking off the kiss, Y/N looked at him smiling and hid her face in the crook of his neck. Her warm breath tickled his skin. Camilo chuckled lightly and started swaying side to side humming a soft tune. They stayed under that bridge for a long time. Various petals falling over them, almost as if dancing with them.
And a little bit further away, two girls stood at the patio of Casita. One with her hand next to her ear and the other growing daisies on her head out of impatience. When Dolores told Isa everything that just happened, the girl jumped screaming. She tightly hugged her prima, making Dolores yelp.
“Am I the best matchmaker or what?” she asked smiling widely. Dolores rolled her eyes amused.
“You sure are,” she responded.
—
“I should thank Isa for the help, right?”
“I guess so,”
“Should I give her some flowers?”
“You’re hilarious,”

Hello There! If it’s alright to ask, may I request Dolores and Isabela (If you don’t do multiple characters, just Dolores!) with a very Affectionate and Touchy S/O? Female Reader, please!
i do take requests for multiple characters!
isabela and dolores madrigal with an affectionate and touchy s/o || isabela & dolores x fem!reader
pairing(s): isabela x fem!reader, dolores x fem!reader
warnings: n/a, pure fluff
word count: 570
(requests for camilo, isabela, dolores and maribel are open! send in an ask at any time; requests already sent in are currently being worked on <3)
isabela madrigal -
isabela is typically very receptive to touch and physical affection as long as you warn her first
she's actually a bit jumpy when people come behind her or hug her from behind so just make sure she knows before you do so or else you will get a flower to the face
other than that isa doesn't really mind your touchy nature. in fact, she's actually quite happy you show your affection physically since to her it's silent reassurance that you really do love and adore her
holding hands as you guys are walking? leaning your head on her shoulder when you both were sitting down? late night cuddles? she eats that type of stuff up
pepper this lady's face with kisses and she will go wild
isabela's actually really cuddly in her sleep, but always denies it when you tell her as such
let's just say the amount of times you've woken up in the middle of the night to her head on your chest and her arms wrapped around you as if you were the world's most comfortable teddy bear were countless
she isn't shy about pda either so if she's in a bad mood expect her to reciprocate your affection tenfold
at times she can actually get quite flustered when you're so adamant to show her your adoration
if she's just sitting down writing or eating and you just slide into her lap her cheeks flush like crazy simply because of how unexpected it was
one of isa's biggest secrets is that her skin's really sensitive which is why she wears such light and fluffy clothing, so when you drag your fingers across your arms or something to that caliber she can't help but shudder
sometimes you do it just to mess with her, which typically just results in you being dragged closer with a few vines and being tickled until you can't breathe
overall she soaks up any type of affection you give her; just shower her with love when she's upset and she'll be at ease in minutes
dolores madrigal -
unlike her cousin dolores is much more shy when it comes to physical affection
she gets overstimulated easily especially with her gift so she may ask for you to give her space from time to time
that doesn't mean she doesn't love touch, of course; she's just a lot more nervous about it
tracing patterns or shapes into her skin or playing with her fingers absentmindedly are some of her favorite ways you show her your affection
also, hugs? she adores hugs
bad day? boom, just wrap your arms around her and she'll melt
dolores is a bit awkward with how she shows her affection just in general so touch is an easy way for her to communicate just how much she cares
once you guys are together for a while and she grows used to your sudden touches, dolores starts pulling some of her own
once she gets comfortable you both are always touching in some form of another, no matter what
brushing over each other's hands, forehead to forehead, etc etc
she does still get shy on occasion or may feel as if she's accidentally shunning you for her lack of eagerness for touch but if you just wrap your fingers around hers and tell her you love her no matter her love language, she'll be reminded just exactly why she adores you so much
