“Are you sure?” Sidney looked unsettled as he sat on his daughters bed and watched as she packed her suitcase, she’s been home for a week now after her surgery and has got her hard cast on her hand a few days ago after the swelling went down and has her arm in a sling for most the time to keep her hand elevated.

He’s loved having her back home the last week and she’s been at the rink with every day dnd he knows the team is loving her being back.

Cameron told Sidney she was planning to go to Chicago for a few days and stay with Connor, she wanted to go to his game and go to his family skate especially since his family couldn’t make it.

Sidney didn’t mind her going but he’s been extra protective since she got hurt and is worried because she really only had one arm she can use right and will have to navigate through the airport alone.

“Yes Dad.” Cameron fondly rolled her eyes as her dad asked the same question again, she slipped in her toiletry bag and shut her suitcase close which seemed to be quite the struggle with one hand making Sidney lean across the bed and help her close it.

“Thanks.” Cameron mumbled before grabbing her carry on back and packing that very quickly before setting it on top of her suitcase.

She sat down on her bed next to her dad and Mr. Mack immediately plopped onto her lap, she usually took her cat with her everywhere but she wasn’t going to this trip to see Connor. Connor and Mr. Mack would love to see each but Cameron knew it wasn’t a smart choice with her being hurt and trying to bring her cat as well especially since she was only going to be there for four nights and knew Mr. Mack will be fine with her Dad.

Sidney wrapped an arm around his daughter pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head, “Should we get going?” Sidney asked checking the time.

Cameron nodded and pressed a few more kisses to her cats head before sadly getting up and gently putting Mr.Mack down, “I’ll be home soon Mr. Mack promise, be good for Dad for me.” Cameron spoke softly to her cat before she reluctantly turned away and saw her Dad already walked out with her bags.

Sidney loaded up the car and started the drive to the airport, he parked the car at the parking lot and grabbed her bags walking in with her, he was absolutely not letting her walk through the airport with her bags without him.

Sidney checked in her suitcase so she only had her backpack on and he walked her to the security and hugged her gently, he didn’t like her not being with him when she was injured but he also knew she missed Connor.

“Say hi to Nate for me.” Sidney told her making her laugh softly.

“Text me for anything.” Sidney reminded her making her fondly smile and nod, he pressed one more kiss to his daughter’s head and let go of her.

Cameron waved with her good hand and headed to into security, it went quickly and she walked to her gate and saw she had a lot of extra time.

She headed to Starbucks and got a hot oat matcha latte and a muffin before heading to her gate as they started boarding and she shook her head fondly seeing what seat her Dad bought her and sat down.

Cameron struggled a bit to get her headphones on and then she turned her music on and she just sipped on her matcha as the plane started moving and soon was taking off.

The flight to Chicago is only half and half and it went by quickly.

Cameron slowly grabbed her things and got off the plane heading to grabbed her checked bag and headed outside and quickly found Connor at his car.

“Hey Camers.” Connor spoke softly hugging her gently being careful of her hand and her sling, he hasn’t seen her since the start of the season and she came out to his first game against her Dad.

“Hi Connie.” Cameron let out a happy sigh hugging her best friend back with one arm.

Connor squeezed her softly once more feeling better to see her again because he’s been worrying over her a lot since he watched her game that she got injured.

“Come on.” Connor out everything into the car for her and opened the door helping her in even if she didn’t necessarily need it. Connor drove them to his apartment and carried her things up to his apartment and brought her to his guest room.

He had a game in a few hours against Colorado, also another reason Cameron came out today so she can see Nate.

Connor headed to take his pre game nap and Cameron needed to rest too so he got her an ice pack and she took her pain medication and slowly fell asleep too.

Connor woke up over an hour later and headed into the guest room seeing Cameron sleeping but her face looked uncomfortable and he knew she probably isn’t sleeping the best with her hand.

Connor softly woke up Cameron before heading to his room to get ready for the game.

Cameron rubbed her face and she kneeled down in front of her suitcase and was able to open it one handed and grabbed out her outfit.

Cameron was not taking off her sling right now and changing her black shirt underneath so she just got her sweatpants off and managed to put on her blue jeans and slipped her feet into black boots. Cameron grabbed her Blackhawks hat she got from Connor when he got drafted and put it on and she grabbed her plaid trench coat knowing she would need help.

Cameron grabbed her purse making sure everything was in there especially her pain medication and walked out to the living room seeing Connor waiting for her.

“Could you?” Cameron asked sheepishly, she is getting use to the fact that she cannot be fully alone right now.

Connor easily smiled and helped her good arm into her trench coat and wrapped the other side of the coat over her bad arm.

Connor and Cameron headed to the rink as Connor drove them and Connor made sure to walk Cameron to her suit making sure she would be okay and had everything before she shooed him off to go warm up.

Connor pressed a kiss to the top of her head that was covered by a hat before rushing off to the locker room.

Cameron got some food that was in the suite knowing she needed to eat and she munched on some food and texted her Dad until the game started.

Cameron waved would her good hand at Nate and all of his teammates that she knows seeing them looking at her waving and she waved at Connor.

Cameron awkwardly smiled waving softly as she was on the jumbotron and a lot of people looked over at her.

Cameron cheered softly as Blackhawks got the first goal of the game and Connor got an assist.

Colorado scored next and Nate got an assist and he got an assist on the next goal too.

Connor got an assist on the last goal of the period too.

No one scored in the second period leaving the game tied heading into the last period and Chicago got a goal and then won 3-2.

Cameron headed down to the locker room waiting for Nate and Connor to come out.

Cameron smiled seeing Nate coming out the locker room, “Uncle Natey.” Cameron grinned and Nate immediately smiled hearing her voice and headed right to her.

“Baby Crosby.” Nate gently pulled her into a tight hug rubbing her back gently, “Your growing up too fast.” Nate frowned as he pulled back seeing how she looks older and older every time he sees her.

He still sees her at the young child who gave him the moose drawing and now she’s one of the top hockey prospects right now and will be going first overall in a couple months and next season he will be playing against her.

Cameron laughed softly at his words just as Connor came out and Nate and Connor shared a hug before they all headed to Connor’s car and out to dinner.

Nate helped Cameron take her jacket off as they sat down for her dinner and Connor opened the menu for Cameron.

“How is that doing?” Nate asked her glancing at her sling and cast. She only had surgery ten days ago.

“Healing, i should be back the beginning of February.” Cameron told him, she got cleared yesterday that she was allowed to do small regular activities as long as she takes it easy, meaning she can skate but only with someone and slowly.

Nate nodded softly, “You doing okay with it?”

“It’s an adjustment.” Cameron sighed it was difficult suddenly having to do everything only one handed.

Nate nodded and changed the topic he didn’t bring up her injury again for the rest of the night.

Cameron, Connor and just spent the rest of the night catching up with each other over dinner.

December 20, 2023

Cameron walked next to Connor down to the Blackhawks arena and Connor was holding her skates in his hand and he opened the door letting her walk in first and walked to her stall.

“Nick this is Cameron my best friend.” Connor introduced them as Cameron sat down on his stall and Connor helped her take her shoes off and she slipped her skates on and he started tying them.

“Hi.” Cameron smiled slightly at Nick and offered her good hand, she has heard a lot about Nick.

“Hey.” Nick grinned shaking her hand back, he has heard a lot about Cameron.

Connor introduced her to more of the boys as he put her skates on than his one skates and they headed toward the ice.

Cameron let out a happy sigh as she stepped onto the ice, the last ten days is the longest she ever went without going on the ice.

Connor smiled fondly at her happy face and kept close to her, he offered his good arm as they shouldn’t take any chances and she sighed but nodded taking his arm and they started skating together.

It made them both miss playing hockey together and just being on the same ice with each other. They both hoped one day they would be on the same line again.

Cameron and Connor were of course asked for pictures by the media team and they smiled for all of those before continuing skating.

It’s been a while since Cameron just to skate and she was glad she got to today.

December 21, 2023

Connor and Cameron spent the day just chilling on his couch together after they went out in the morning and walked to breakfast.

They both aren’t the biggest social people so they have always enjoyed just being comfortable on the couch and watching something together.

They spent most of the day there until it got closer to dinner and Connor and Cameron headed to his kitchen as Connor was making them dinner showing Cameron he had gotten okay at cooking.

“So Fraser?” Connor asked with a small smirk as looked over the pan that was cooking salmon.

Cameron’s cheeks went pink, “Maybe.” She mumbled softly.

“I’m gone for a few months and you find a crush.” Connor playfully pouted making her laugh, he was a bit disappointed he didn’t get to see them interacting because Cameron is his best friend and Fraser one of his closest friends.

“Are you going to say anything?” Connor asked as he took the pan off the flame and put the salmon in their bowls.

“Not yet.” Cameron shook her head no, maybe later, “I’m not eighteen yet.” Cameron knew Fraser would not do anything while she is still seventeen and she respected that.

“Ahh.” Connor nodded realizing she wanted to wait till she was eighteen because Fraser was of age.

“This is good.” Cameron nodded approvingly as she took her first bite making Connor beam proudly.

“Yeah?” Connor looked hopeful, he’s been leaning how to cook for himself and Cameron is really the first person he’s cooked for. It meant a lot that she liked it especially as when they lived in Regina together Cameron did the cooking.

“Really.” Cameron nodded back honestly making Connor beam happy.

Connor and Cameron just enjoyed the rest of the night together as Cameron was heading home tomorrow morning.

December 22, 2023

Connor drove them to the airport and parked in the parking lot, “What you’re not walking in alone.” Connor said seeing her surprised look when he didn’t go through the line.

Cameron rolled her eyes fondly at her best friend’s protectiveness and got out the car as Connor grabbed her bags.

Connor walked in with Cameron and made sure her bag was checked in and walked her to security before he pulled her into a hug, “I’ll see you soon Camers.” Connor mumbled softly he missed the days living with his best friends and know he plays in Chicago and she plays in Vancouver for now.

“Bye Connie.” Cameron mumbled back and squeezed him once more with her good arm and pulled back smiling at him before walking to security.

She was looking forward to getting home and being with Dad and Mr. Mack. The only good thing about being injured is getting to be at home with her Dad again and near all the Penguins.

Sidney has been training with a trainer in Cole Harbor who is also training a younger player Nate Mackinnon.

Nate seemed in awe of Sidney but also respectful enough to treat him normally and just continue training.

Sidney knew Nate would be in the NHL very soon and Nate had just been drafted in the QMHJHL but in two years would be able to get drafted.

Cameron joined Sidney at his training session today, she usually spends the time with her grandparents while her dad work outs.

Cameron is almost five, in a week it was her fifth birthday.

Cameron held her stuffed penguin in one hand that is from her godfather Flower, and her other hand held tightly on her dad.

“Nate!” Sidney called out to the fifteen year old player, Nate looked over and saw Sidney walking in with his young daughter.

“Can bug this is Nate. Nate this is my Cameron.” Sidney softly greeted and rubbed a hand over the back of her head smiling proudly at her. Nate smiled softly noticing how much softer Sidney was at Cameron.

“Hello Cameron.” Nate kneeled down in front of her and sent her a soft smile.

“hello.” Cameron shyly smiled clinging onto Sidney tighter but giving Nate a hesitant smile.

Sidney smiled softly and guided Cameron to the mat that they don’t use and let her sit down and helped her take off her backpack.

Sidney kneeled down in front of her and opened her back pack that is filled with things for her to use, when he has meetings, long car rides or plane rides. Her backpack goes with her everywhere and they always pack a few snacks in there for her.

“What do you wanna go my Cam bug.” Sidney gently questioned as he looked through her bag.

“Color.” Cameron quietly spoke, she wanted to draw a picture for Nate.

“Ok.” Sidney nodded and grabbed her sketch book and her pencil bag filled with coloring items and set them down in front of her, “Be good my love.” Sidney pressed a kiss to the side of her head as she nodded in reply.

Sidney stood up and headed over to his trainer and Nate.

Cameron was happily content to draw for the next few hours and munching on some oat protein bars Sidney makes for her and Sidney checked on her during all of his water breaks.

Cameron started packing up her bag as Sidney had finished his session but held a piece of paper in her hand still and her penguin stuff animal.

“Ready to go Cam Bug?” Sidney asked as he ran his hands through her hair.

“One second please.” Cameron softly mumbled and walked a few steps over to Nate and held out a paper towards him, “Here you go.” Cameron softly smiled up at him.

Nate blinked in surprise and gently took the paper from her and smiled softly at the paper, she drew a larger and smaller penguin and a moose.

“Dad said you were drafted to the moosehead, So you are a moose.” Cameron spoke with a small sweet smile.

“Thank you, i love it.” Nate beamed and held the paper to him closely.

“You are welcome.” Cameron nodded, “Bye Natey.” Cameron smiled and turned around walking right to her dad and taking his outstretched hand.

“Bye.” Nate smiled back as he watched the two walk away.

Sidney was pacing out side the hospital walls, hearing the screams of Jasmine, who has been in labor for 17 hours now. Sidney had sent home his parents and younger sister as they had been with they all day and he wanted them to at least get some sleep.

Sidney’s head snapped up as the door opened and one of the nurses walked out, “Mr. Crosby, your daughters been born.” The woman gave him a kind smile.

“Daughter!” Sidney choked out as Jasmine didn’t want to find out the gender as she didn’t care for it.

Sidney shook his head pushing back the emotions, “Can i see her.” Sidney questioned looking desperately towards the nurse.

“Of course.” The nurse kindly replied and gestured for him to walk into the room.

Sidney walked in and only spared a single glance at his ex-girlfriend, who was turned away from the door and away from the bassinet that had his newborn daughter in it.

Sidney took slow steps and looked down and saw the most precious thing in the whole work, Sidney knew his daughter has already stolen his heart and nothing was more important to him then her, he gently picked her up and she made a small cooing sound as her little fingers wrapped around his finger.

“Hello Cameron.” Sidney lovingly mumbled, letting out a watery laugh as he feels his cheeks wet from his tears.

He has picked out the name when he found out about her, He loved it because it fit for a girl or a boy name, just like his.

“Sir?” One of the nurses kindly called out gaining his attention, “You have to write out full name and as Ms. Waters has signed away all of her rights so you will need to sign this for the birth certificate.” The nurse set down the papers in front of her him and handed him the pen.

Sidney nodded and shifted his daughter carefully to his one arm and picked the pen up in the other hand, he wrote out her name, Cameron Taylor Crosby. And signed everything he needed too and handed the papers back to the nurse.

“We just need to clean her up and give her a checkup and you’re good to bring her home dad.” Another nurse kindly told Sidney and stretched her hands out towards to take Cameron, Sidney hesitated not liking the idea of letting go of his daughter.

The nurse just calmly smiled because she is use to parents not wanting to let go of their kids, “Why don’t you come with us.” She kindly suggested and Sidney quickly nodded and followed the nurses out of the room not even sparing a glance at his ex, he picked up his back pack swinging it onto his shoulder.

Sidney followed them into the room and gently and reluctantly set his daughter onto the bed, he stayed closed by her side tho and let her fingers stay gently wrapped around his finger.

The nurse started doing a thorough check up on the newborn making sure everything was good and she was healthy before she then started cleaning her up, “Do you have an outfit to bring her home in?” The nurse asked him as many parents will bring in an outfit to bring their baby’s home or the hospital will give them one.

Sidney nodded and opened his backpack pulling out a white and pastel yellow onesie that has little flowers on it, the nurse helped him put it onto Cameron.

The nurse then made sure she went over everything with him as she could tell he was nervous and she knew he was a single father so she wanted him to feel prepared.

“And you are ready to take your girl home.” The nurse kindly told Sidney making him smile, he nodded and thanked the nurse before he started the walked out of the room and down the hallway towards the front of the hospital, he walked out of the front doors and to his car.

Sidney opened the back door and gently laid his newborn daughter into her new car seat and he gently caressed her tiny and soft cheek and gave her one more lovingly smile before he shut the door and he walked around putting all of his stuff into the car before he got into the driver seat.

Sidney took a nervous breath as he turned on the car and slowly and cautiously pulled out of the parking spot and drove the short drive to his house in Nova Scotia, he had recently bought his own house in his home town and bought a house in Pittsburgh as he wanted his daughter to have homes.

Sidney gently grabbed his peacefully sleeping newborn, he slung his bags over his shoulder.

He walked into his house for the first time with his daughter and it felt like home with her.

He set down all of his bags by the door and gently walked over to his couch and slowly sat down being mindful of his daughter in his arms.

Sidney knew he needed to tell his parents and younger sister, and his team that his daughter has been born but he wanted some time alone with Cameron, taking a moment to just have with his daughter.

Sidney slowly and gently slipped his shirt off as he read in one of the parenting books that babies enjoy skin to skin contact and he gently rested his newborn daughter on his chest and pressed a gentle kiss to her head.

Sidney knew that being a single dad and only about to start in his second NHL season, he knew it would be a lot of work but he had a good support system and it would all be worth it for his daughter.

Sidney felt his daughter squirm around slightly and he gently hummed a small soft tune and gently rubbed his tiny back and felt her let out a little puff of air before relaxing fully against him once again.

Sidney smiled contently and relaxed more into the couch and pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head and could feel his eyes slowly beginning to fall shut.

Sidney quietly opened Cameron’s bedroom door holding a plate with her favorite breakfast, banana bread and candles light for her thirteenth birthday.

Sidney sat on the age of the bed and smiled fondly seeing her hair all crazily spread out across her pillow and he gently brushed some back and off her face, “Cam Bug.” Sidney softly cooed to his most important person.

“Mmm.” Cameron grumbled naturally leaning into her father’s touch.

“Happy birthday.” Sidney softly spoke and Cameron bounced up looking wide awake and Sidney bittersweetly smiled at his now teenager.

“Make a wish.” Sidney told her rubbing her back gently as she closed her eyes and blew out her candles. Cameron smiled and immediately broke off a piece of the banana bread and stuffed it in her face.

“Thank you.” Cameron mumbled leaning her head on her dad’s shoulder as she continued to stuff her face.

Sidney just sat with her as she ate and stealing a few bites and once she was finished, “Why don’t we get dressed there is some surprises for you down stairs.”

Cameron nodded and got out of bed and stumbled into the bathroom and came out a few minutes later in a pair of white cargo bangs and a blue and white striped shirt and a brush in her hand. She walked over to her dad and handed him the brush and Sidney gently brushed through her hair and got all of the knots out.

Sidney spun her around and gently kissed her forehead, “Beautiful.” Sidney proudly smiled at his beautiful daughter and he stood up off her bed.

They walked down the stairs and into the living room seeing a lot of people in there.

“Aunty Tay!” Cameron gasped and all but ran over to her aunt who has been on a trip the last few weeks.

“There’s my favorite niece.” Taylor smiled hugging her favorite niece tightly and pressing multiple kissed to the top of her head.

“I’m your only niece Aunty Tay.” Cameron giggled shaking her head at her silly aunt.

“Oh there’s my granddaughter.” Troy grinned at his granddaughter as she walked over to his wife and him. He pulled her into a tight hug rocking her back and forth before reluctantly releasing her as he knew his wife wanted to hug her too.

“Happy Birthday Cammie.” Tina beamed as she pulled her granddaughter into a hug.

“Thanks Nana.” Cameron smiled at her before skipping over to her Anna and Geno and Baby Nikita.

“Hi Kiki.” Cameron softly cooed at her baby cousin and looked at Anna for permission to hold him, Anna smiled and handed her son into her niece’s arms.

“Happy birthday маленький пингвин.” Geno pressed a kiss on her head and has been calling her little penguin in Russian since she was born as well as teaching her Russian.

“Thank you.” Cameron beamed but kept her eyes on her baby cousin in her arms, she gently brought her finger to his face and his little hands wrapped around her finger and opened his eyes at her.

She reluctantly passed him back to Anna and Anna smiled and gently kissed her forehead.

“Uncle Flower!” Cameron cheered as she rushed over to hug her godfather. Marc chuckled and hugged his goddaughter back.

“Hi Stells!” Cameron beamed at her two year old cousin.

“Cam Cam!” Estelle smiled widely and toddled over to her and lifted her hands up to her older cousin. Cameron picked up her and spun her around making Estelle giggle before Cameron set her cousin on her hip and gently hugged her very pregnant godmother.

“Hi Aunty Vee.” Cameron gently kissed her aunts cheek and Veronique gently caressed her sweet goddaughter cheek.

Cameron walked a step forward and a tiny body ran into her legs she looked down seeing her four year old cousin staring at her with a beaming smile.

“Hi Xan.” Cameron smiled and picked him up to setting him on her other hip.

“Happy Birthday Cam Cam.” Alexander cheered pressing a sloppy kiss onto her cheek and Cameron smiled tickling him slighty as she brought her cousins over to Kris and Catherine.

“Hi Uncle Krisy and Aunty Cat.” Cameron greeted them with a smile as her hands were full of her cousin.

“Hi darling, happy birthday.” Catherine gently kissed her nieces cheek. Kris gently ruffled her hair and hugged her being mindful of the kids in her arms.

Cameron smiled and heard to the couch and gently dropped both of her baby cousins making them giggle.

Cameron walked to her Nate, “Natey!” Cameron grinned and Nate smiled picking her up off the floor and shaking her back and forth in the hug.

“Happy Birthday baby Crosby!!” Nate cheered as he shook her like crazy before setting her back down gently.

Cameron smiled as a lot of her closest family members all came out to see her for her birthday.

Sidney had snuck out of the living room when Cameron was greeting everyone and he came back in with a something behind his back.

“What’s that?” Cameron titled her head curiously seeing her dad hiding something behind his back.

“Your present. Close your eyes.” Sidney smiled and Cameron closed her eyes holding out her hands and Sidney set the pet carrier in her hands, “Okay open.” Sidney smiled. Taylor had her phone out to film Cameron’s reaction.

Cameron let out a loud gasp as she opened her eyes and saw a cat in the carrier, she quickly knelt down setting the carrier on the ground and opened it up and the tiny white fluffy kitten popped her head out staring at Cameron.

“Hi.” Cameron whispered giggling happily as she been wanting a cat for years but Sidney wanted her to be a bit older so Cameron could take care of it.

The kitten meowed and jumped right out and onto her lap cuddling up on her. Cameron’s smile was so wide as she gently began petting her kitten.

Sidney sat down next to his daughter and smiled seeing her so happy.

“Thank you Dad.” Cameron hugged him being careful of her cat.

“Of course Cam Bug, happy birthday.” Sidney proudly smiled and brushed her hair out of her face and kissed the side of her head.

“What are you going to name him?” Taylor asked curiously to her niece.

Cameron titled her head thoughtfully before a mischievous grin came to her face, “Mack! Mr. Mack.”

Sidney let out a groan of defeat and Nate let out a booming laugh hearing the name.

Sidney stepped onto the ice with a fifteen month old Cameron in his arms and all bundled up in her penguins jacket and holding her stuffed penguin in her tiny arms.

Sidney has brought Cameron on the ice many many times already in her life and ever since she could stand on her own he would put on her little skates but she never seemed to want to go on the ice being content to stay in Sidney’s arm.

“Baby penguin! “ Fleury cheered as he got on the ice and saw his goddaughter in Sidney’s arm.

“Hi Fower.” Cameron babled softly her tiny hand reaching out and booping her uncle’s nose.

Fleury smiled softly and kissed her cheek softly before skating away.

Sidney felt his daughter squirm and he looked down seeing her pointing at the ice, “Do you wanna go on the ice CamBug?” Sidney questioned looking exicted as she never wants to be out of his arms and he wants her to enjoy the ice like he does.

Cameron nodded soflty and Sidney beamed kneeling down and gently setting her down on the ice, he had a hand by her stomach in case she falls and one of his hands holding her tiny hand.

Sidney chuckled not all that surprised as she was fully standing and not wobbling at all, he stayed on his knees as she slowly moved toward.

Sidney could feel his tears well up with proud tears and pressed a kiss to her cheek making her giggle.

Sidney stayed on his knees as she slowly skated until he eventually stood up and kept a hold onto to her tiny hand and they started skating a little faster.

Sidney didn’t know how long they just skated but long enough for Cameron’s eyes to start drooping and for her to start letting out little yawns.

“Alright my CamBug that’s enough for today.” Sidney picked her up and she immediately snuggled closer to him and laying her head against his neck like she always has.

“Can we see ice again?” Cameron sleepily asked.

“Yes we can see the ice again.” Sidney fondly agreed kissing her head knowing she is asking to go skating again.

He gently rubbed her back as he stepped off the ice and felt her fall asleep.

Cameron was dead asleep with Mr. Mack in her arms not stirring as Sidney quietly walked into his daughter’s bedroom holding a plate of his homemade banana bread with candles lite for her eighteenth birthday.

Sidney could not believe it that his daughter who was just born was already eighteen, officially an adult and would be playing in the NHL in barely a month.

It made Sidney sad but proud at how fast his daughter is growing up and he is thankful he gets to watch her grow up but it’s still so sad seeing her not being so little anymore and not need him as much anymore.

Sidney sat on the edge of his daughter’s bed making Mr. Mack open his eyes and glare at Sidney making Sidney just roll his eyes use to the fact his daughter’s cat would never like him and the feeling is mutual.

Sidney gently brushed back her hair from her face watching as she squirmed slowly waking up.

“Happy birthday Cambug.” Sidney softly cooed as Cameron opened her eyes looking at her dad and smiled softly, Sidney sat the plate down next to her as Cameron sat up blowing out her candles and eagerly grabbed the fork and happily starting to eat her banana bread.

Sidney made sure to steal a few bites like he does every year on her birthday.

Cameron finished her birthday breakfast and reluctantly got out of bed and headed to bathroom getting ready for her day, she threw on a pair of jean shorts and a simple white cropped t-shirt and came out of her bathroom seeing her dad sitting on her bed with a few hair things, she sat down on the floor in front of him.

Sidney gently brushed out his daughter’s hair, something he has missed with her not living with him anymore. He gently brushed her hair and added two little braids that connected in the back.

Sidney and Cameron started walking out of her room and down the stairs with Mr. Mack following behind them.

Sidney spared a glance at his daughter and smiled softly excited for her to find out the surpise he has for her.

Cameron smiled seeing her grandparents, aunt and Nate and Connor.

Connor having come out for a few days to celebrate his best friend’s birthday. The Fleury’s, Malkin’s and Letang’s were all coming over later in the day to celebrate Cameron.

“Happy birthday baby cros.” Nate cheered standing up and spinning around his niece who wasn’t so little anymore.

“Thanks Uncle Nate.” Cameron giggles softly as Nate gently set her feet back onto the floor.

Cameron walked over to her aunt, who immediately was pulling Cameron into a very tight hug, “My favorite niece.” Taylor whispered pressing a kiss to the side of her face, “Happy birthday.”

Cameron smiled, “Thank you Aunty Tay.”

Cameron headed over to her grandparents who immediately pulled her into a group hug and wishing her a happy birthday.

Cameron did not see her surprise walk into the room having been watching as she came down the stairs and greet her family.

“Happy birthday Camers.” Connor spoke softly as he pulled his best friend into a tight hug.

“Thanks Con.” Cameron smiled squeezing her best friend once more before letting go.

“No hug for me Cam?” Fraser softly called out from where he was standing and Cameron didn’t notice him yet.

Cameron’s eyes went wide hearing that voice and spun towards it seeing Fraser in her living room with a smile, “What?” Cameron let out a shocked chuckle and quickly crossed the room pulling Fraser into a tight hug.

“Happy birthday Cam.” Fraser softly whispered only to her.

Fraser and Sidney planned together for Fraser to come out for Cameron’s birthday as a surprise. Sidney may of also dropped a few hints that Cameron feels the same and since she was turning eighteen Fraser was hopeful, Sidney also gave Fraser his permission to ask Cameron out.

Cameron just softly giggled hugging Fraser tighter.

“Woah.” Taylor quieter whispered to her older brother, she did not believe that sweet Cameron actually was interested in someone romantically but seeing the two hug in front of her she knew she was wrong.

Taylor wasn’t there a few months ago when Fraser was visiting so she hadn’t seen Fraser and Cameron interact and hadn’t believed anyone that Cameron had feelings for someone but she could easily see the obvious signs in front of her.

Sidney simply smiled in response. At first he hated the thought of his daughter with anyone but he couldn’t hate it with how much Fraser really does care for Cameron and Cameron obviously adores him right back.

Sidney has slowly grown to care for Fraser since he had met the boy and while he was protective of Cameron he will admit there is no one better for his daughter than Fraser, and Fraser has proved that many times already.

Sidney was glad that Cameron will have Fraser in Toronto, while he would like her to be as close to possible to him, it makes him feel better than she has Fraser with her.

Cameron and Fraser pulled back after a few long moments and she grabbed his hands squeezing them softly giving him a smile, she is very happy he came.

Cameron pulled Fraser over to the couch Connor had sat down and her smile was wide as she sat between her two best friends.

Cameron smiled as she opened her presents from all of her family that were present right then.

Taylor smacked her brother’s arm as she looked at the scene in front of her, Mr. Mack was happily curled up on Fraser’s lap as Cameron opened her presents.

“Don’t know what the kid did but that cat likes him.” Sidney shook his head still does not make sense why his daughter cat adores Fraser yet hisses at him every time he sees him.

Cameron opened up the rest of her presents and spent a good while sitting with her family in the living room before she headed out of the living room to her backyard and sitting on her hammock.

Cameron peacefully closed her eyes as she leaned her head back against her hammock and lightly rocking back and forth.

Fraser watched Cameron get up and head out side and knew she was heading outside to her hammock, he looked around the living room seeing Connor and Sidney in a deep discussion and Nate and Taylor playfully arguing as Tina and Troy watched amused.

Fraser gently pet Mr.Mack before he stood up and headed out to back yard as well, he walked down the steps on the back deck and smiled seeing Cameron’s peaceful as she sat in her hammock and took a deep breath and walked over.

Fraser figured Cameron heard him walk out because she didn’t even flinch when he sat down next to her and just rested her head on his shoulder keeping her eyes closed.

“Thank you for being here.” Cameron softly whispered, she hadn’t wanted to ask him to come out for her birthday not wanting to make a big deal out of it but she is glad he came and she gets to see him.

“Of course.” Fraser smiled, he was nervous that maybe Cameron didn’t want him to come out and he shouldn’t surprise her but Connor and Sidney both told him she would love it.

Fraser must of have been staring at her peaceful face long enough that she opened her eye and titled her head up to look at him, it made her nervous the expression on his face, a good nervous, “What?”

Fraser shook his slowly and let out a breathy chuckle bringing his hand up slowly and gently tracing her cheekbone, making her lean towards his touch and her eyes flutter, “Do you know how beautiful you are?” Fraser softly questioned, he was nervous hoping he doesn’t mess everything up but he has been head over heels in love with her since he met her and he could not wait any longer.

Cameron’s breath hitched at his question, her eyes widened as she looked at him.

“Because you are beautiful Cameron, it’s distracting.” Fraser leaned closer as he spoke even softer to her, “You’re an angel.”

Cameron’s cheeks were turning darker and darker red the more he spoke and her eyes were still wide as she starred at him.

Fraser swallowed nervously but took a deep breath feeling hopeful as she hadn’t pulled away from him yet, “I have had feelings for you since the moment we met and you’ve utterly captivated me.” Fraser scanned her face nervously.

Cameron bit her lip feeling her whole face a flame as she heard the words she did not realize she longed to hear for so long, “I have feelings for you too.” Cameron softly whispered looking up at Fraser through her eyes lashes as he cupped her cheek with his whole palm.

Fraser let out a relieved chuckle and leaned even closer to her making their noses brush, “Can i kiss you angel?” Fraser whispered gently caressing her face.

Cameron’s eyes widen once more from his question and the name he called her, “Please.” Cameron whispered desperately making Fraser’s smile widen before he pressed his lips delicately to hers.

Cameron let out a soft sigh as she tentatively brought her hands chest as their lips stayed connected.

Fraser gently pulled back keeping his eyes on her as her eyes stayed closed but there was a pleased smile on her face.

“Is it too soon to ask you to be my girlfriend?” Fraser nervously asked.

“No, not too soon.” Cameron opened her eyes bitting her lip trying to hide her very wide smile.

Fraser smiled pleased.

Fraser cupped her face gently with both of his hands making her sigh as she relaxed into his touch, “Cameron Crosby, would you be my girlfriend?”

“I would like that.” Cameron whispered giggling softly as Fraser beamed happily and pressed his lips back to hers.

Sidney walked through his house towards the window that faces the backyard where he can see the hammock as he assumed that is where his daughter and Fraser are, he looked out the window and raised an eyebrow seeing them kissing, “It’s about time.” Sidney muttered and smiled at the happiness on his daughter’s gave before he turned around and walked away.

Cameron looked up just as she saw a player on the other team coming at her and she was smashed into the board but that wasn’t what hurt, it was the large other player that smashed her tiny hand with his knee against the boards.

Cameron immediately felt something crack and knew something was wrong as she leaned against the board holding her dominant hand to her chest, “Ow.” Cameron quietly whimpered biting her lip from letting any tears fall not wanting that to be caught on camera.

Fraser froze as he watched everything in front of him before quickly snapping out and hurrying over to her and pushing the other player away from Cameron and towards their team so they could make sure he stayed away from Cameron.

Fraser wrapped his arm around her shoulder hoping it might help her a little as he watched the trainer rush across the ice and towards them, “Your okay.” Fraser whispered softly rubbing her shoulder softly.

Fraser grabbed onto her hand gently as the trainer started looking at her injured hand and he frowned seeing the uneasy look on the trainers face and knew it wasn’t good.

It did not help the hand she injured is her dominant hand, an injury is something you never want but for Cameron this is her draft year so an injury is a lot worse right now.

Cameron gave Fraser a reassuring nod as she skated over to the bench, there was only a few minutes left of the period.

Cameron was guided to the trainer room and immediately they looked at her hand and could see the swelling and bruising starting and they knew she would must likely need to get to the hospital, they took a an x-ray and saw multiple breaks and fractures in her hand.

The trainers helped Cameron get dressed into comfortable clothes just as Fraser was dressed after the game and knocking on the door.

“How bad?” Fraser questioned in concern the second he walked into the room and straight over to Cameron.

“I have to go to the hospital, they found a few breaks and fractures.” Cameron quietly told him, she knew she needed to call her dad.

“Let’s go then.” Fraser nodded determinedly and stepped out of the way so she could get off the exam table.

“You don’t have to-“ Cameron tried to protest even though she knew it would be easier if Fraser came with her.

“I want to.” Fraser sternly reassured her and she nodded reluctantly and stood up as she gingerly held her hand to her body trying to not groan at how much pain she was feeling.

Fraser wrapped an arm around Cameron’s shoulder as they walked out, he guided her making sure no one accidentally brushed against her, he led them to his car and they luckily carpooled for the game that day.

He opened the passenger seat and put a tentative hand on waist as he helped her into the car and he grabbed the seat belt pulling it across her and clicking it shut, he shut the door and walked around the car hopping into the drivers seat starting the drive to the closet hospital.

Fraser drove them and stayed silent as Cameron called her dad to let him know about her injury as she saw all the worried texts from him as Sidney was watching his daughter’s game.

Sidney promised he would be there in a few hours as he is going to head right now to the airport and luckily he didn’t have any games for three days but it’s not like he wouldn’t miss a game for Cameron especially with her hurt.

Fraser could tell Cameron was in a lot of pain and was trying to stay strong but he had no doubt it was a lot of pain.

They finally pulled up to the hospital and he immediately parked and hopped out of the car rushing to open the passenger door and helping Cameron out of the car.

Cameron was brought into a room and the doctors did another round of x-rays and it was determined she needed surgery immediately especially with how delicate hands are and how many of the bones in her hand was broken.

Cameron was given a room and she changed into a gown getting in the bed, she was biting her lip nervously, she has never had surgery before and by the time her dad gets here she will be done with the surgery.

“Hey.” Fraser spoke softly gently grabbing her non injured hand and squeezing it softly, he could tell she was nervous, “I’ll be here the whole time okay.” Fraser gently reassured the girl who he fell in love with at first sight.

“Ok.” Cameron nodded and took a deep breath trying to relax and focus on the fact Fraser is holding her hand rather than her upcoming surgery.

Fraser gently caressed her knuckles with his thumb watching as she slowly relax little by little.

The nurse came in to grab Cameron to take her to her surgery and Fraser could not follow her.

“You are going to do great Cam and before you know it you’ll be awake and it will over with and your Dad will be here.” Fraser softly whispered to her and Cameron slowly nodded sending him a small smile, Fraser leaned down and pressed a delicate kiss to her forehead and squeezed her hand once more before stepping back and watching her get rolled away.

Fraser headed to the surgical waiting area and he sat down looking at his feet not moving for a very long time until he heard someone rushing and Cameron’s name being said.

Fraser looked up and saw a frazzled Sidney Crosby at the counter, he took a deep breath as stood up walking over, “Mr. Crosby.” Fraser called out softly.

Sidney turned around at sound of his voice and hoped for once it was not a fan he was to stressed with Cameron to deal with anyone.

Sidney narrowed his eyes and immediately knew who called his voice, his daughter’s crush.

“Mr. Minten.” Sidney nodded his head.

“Just Fraser please. Did they tell you about Cam.” Fraser questioned gently noticing how Sidney has some of the same quirks as Cameron when she is anxious.

Sidney nodded his head as the nurse had just informed him everything, he knew his daughter would not be playing for awhile especially with the fact she hurt her shooting hand, selfish Sidney didn’t hate the idea of her not playing because she would be home for a bit.

“Good.” Fraser nodded and before he could say anything else a doctor walked of doors and into the waiting room.

“Family of Cameron.” The doctor called out and Sidney started walking and noticed Fraser staying put and gestures for Fraser to come too, Sidney may not personally know the boy but his daughter likes and trusts him and that is important to Sidney, Also Fraser stayed the whole time with Cameron something Sidney couldn’t be there for.

“Mr. Crosby.” The doctor nodded, “Good news is the surgey went very well, the not so great news is we had to a few more screws that we originally planned so we will have to monitor that as she heals to see if she will be able to keep all of them in permanently or some may need to be removed.”


Sidney let out a sigh, the news could’ve of been a lot worse.

“Thank you.” Sidney thanked the Doctor shaking his hand, “What would the recovery time be?” Sidney questioned.

“With how much she broke in her hand the recovery time will be a bit longer than a normal hand break, roughly around two months.”

Sidney nodded but felt pain that his daughter would be gone for so long during her season.

“And is she free to travel on plane?” Sidney questioned again, he planned to take her home as soon as possible.

“She will be, and we can coordinate rehabs and appointments for where she is going.” The doctor told him.

“Thank you.” Sidney smiled grateful and shook the doctor’s hand once more before a nurse told Sidney and Fraser they could go to her room as she was brought back and should be waking up soon.

Sidney grabbed his bag and followed Fraser as they walked through the hallway towards Cameron’s room.

“Thank you Fraser.” Sidney spoke up after quite a bit of silence, “For being there for my daughter today and all of the other days since she has met you.”

“Oh of course Mr. Crosby.” Fraser started talking but was politely cut off by Sidney.

“Just Sidney.” Sidney nodded, he knew how important Fraser is to Cameron and knew he needed to be kind with him.

“Of course Sidney.” Fraser smiled softly as they reached her door and they walked in seeing her still sleeping.

Sidney let out a long sight of relief seeing his daughter and dropped his bag walking over to her and gently kissed her forhead and brushed her hair out of her face.

Fraser walked around to the other side of her bed and gently grabbed onto her hand.

Fraser and Sidney stayed in silence for a good hour before Cameron’s eyes started to fluttered open.

“Hey CamBug.” Sidney softly whispered smiling down at her.

“Dad.” Cameron breathed out in relief feeling her shoulders loosen having her dad with her now.

“How are you? Are you in pain? Should i get the nurse?” Sidney started frantically asking looking exactly like a very protective father.

Fraser smiled softly as he watched the two, he knew Cameron has a very close bond with her father especially as it has just always been them but seeing them it was very sweet to watch.

“Dad. I’m okay. We can call the nurse in a bit.” Cameron softly cut off her father from asking more questions.

Sidney nodded letting out a breath.

Cameron seemed to just realize her hand was being held and turned seeing Fraser standing there, “Fras.” Cameron softly smiled feeling very touched that he was still here.

“Hi Cam.” Fraser softly replied back squeezing her hand.

“You stayed?” Cameron questioned in disbelief but the smile on her face was very olease something neither Sidney or Fraser missed.

“You were here.” Fraser simply answered back making Cameron’s face soften in complete fondness for the boy.

Sidney nodded slowly, any reservations he may of had about Fraser were gone then. He saw immediately how Fraser looked at his daughter like she was the stars in his skyline and Sidney knew Fraser was perfect for his daughter.

Cameron hurried into her home in Nova Scotia and paused in the doorway hearing laughing, she smiled as she walked into the kitchen seeing her dad, Nate and Fraser sitting around the island eating her dad’s famous banana bread.

Sidney had offered to go pick Fraser up because she had a training session at the same time. Cameron was still surprised how much her dad seemed to like Fraser since he met in him in the hospital.

Cameron smiled even softer seeing Mr. Mack sitting right next to Fraser.

Cameron quietly walked over to them and leaned over Fraser grabbing a small piece of the banana bread and eating it.

Fraser froze as he knew immediately who that was and beamed spinning around and seeing Cameron standing there, “Cam.” Fraser was beaming as he pulled her into a gentle hug.

“Hi Fras.” Cameron whispered softly hugging his back.

Sidney raised an eyebrow at Nate as the scene in front of him proved his point, Nate didn’t believe Sidney at all when he said Cameron had a crush on someone.

Nate titled his head still looking shocked.

They pulled away from their hug and Cameron turned to her dad and uncle “Were you nice Uncle Nate.” Cameron narrowed her eyes at Nate, she knew better than anyone that Nate likes to tease but she wanted to make sure he was nice to Fraser.

Nate gasped dramatically putting a hand over his heart looking offended, “I was so nice Cammie!”

Cameron hummed in response not believing him for a second and grabbed Fraser’s hand and pulled him out of the kitchen.

“Hey!” Nate called out offended making her giggled as she continued to walked away with Fraser.

“Come on i’ll show you my favorite spot.” Cameron softly spoke to Fraser and she guided him through her house and to the back yard.

Fraser looked around realizing the Crosby’s house is right on the water.

Cameron brought him to the hammock and she plopped down on it patting the spot next to her making Fraser quickly sit down next to her.

The hammock has always been Cameron’s favorite place to be and she is always found sitting there.

Cameron set her head on Fraser shoulder and closed her eyes listening to the peaceful silence.

Fraser set his head on top of Cameron’s head and happily relaxed next to her.

“Thank you for coming.” Cameron softly whispered, she fiddled with Fraser’s hand.

“Thank you for inviting me.” Fraser whispered just as softly back as he gently squeezed her hand.

Fraser stayed for a few days and Cameron showed him around her home town, bringing him to all of her favorite places. He met a lot of her family not all of them yet but the ones that met him could all tell why Cameron adores him.

Fraser really enjoyed being able to see more parts of Cameron and got to see more sides of her, he loved getting to see all the things that are important to her.

He also found it very sweet how close Cameron is to all of her family and how much all of her little cousins look up at her.

It was the first of many times that Fraser came to the Crosby’s house in Nova Scotia.

Cameron was curled up in a little ball on her couch laying next to Fraser, they were taking a break after having been packing up her apartment as she is going home in a few days and would most likely not be coming back next season.

Mr. Mack was curled against Fraser’s other side fast asleep agonist Fraser. Fraser was playing with Camron’s hair as they just relaxed in silence.

“Will you come visit in the summer?” Cameron nervously and softly asked Fraser looking up at Fraser.

Fraser’s eyes widen in shock and surprise, “You want me to visit?” Fraser questioned suprised she wanted him to visit her but he would gladly visit the girl who has stolen his heart.

“Yeah,” Cameron nervously nodded, “If you want to.” Cameron bit her lip looking hopeful, Fraser is very important to her and she wants him to see her home.

“Of course, i would love to Cam.” Fraser softly spoke smiling softly at her.

“Cool.” Cameron beamed at him, looking very happy that he would be coming out to Nova Scotia.

Cameron took a deep breath and lifted her head off the couch and rested her head gently down on to Fraser’s lap, “Is this okay?” Cameron hopefully whispered hoping he would not ask her to move.

Fraser swallowed nervously at her laying on his lap and he gently brushed her hair away from her face and softly tucked her hair behind her ear, “It’s perfectly okay.” Fraser watched as she smiled and she looked pleased making him looked pleased.

“When do you want me to come out?” Fraser quietly questioned after a few moments of comfortable silence, he wanted to make sure he left time in his summer so he come see her.

“Well how about the end of May?” Cameron asked and Fraser nodded in agreement not seeing why that wouldn’t work.

“Okay. Good. I should be back from worlds the latest the 27th.” Cameron added, the best case scenario is that she gets to the medal games and even then she would be back by the 27th.

“You’re going to worlds?” Fraser asked in surprise, he did not know she was going to be playing in Worlds.

“Yeah, i thought it would be good before my draft since i missed Juniors.” Cameron explained, “And Con is going to be playing so i’ll get to play with him as well.” Cameron added softly, one of the many reasons she was most excited to play at Worlds was being able to play with best friend again.

“That makes sense.” Fraser nodded his head in agreement, he was not surprised a reason she wanted to play was to play with Connor. Fraser has seen first hand how close the two best friends are.

“So i will come the 28th?” Fraser double checked as he gently twirled the ends of her chestnut brown hair around his fingers.

“Mhm.” Cameron softly agreed and closed her eyes contently.

Cameron was laying on her couch with Mr. Mack curled under her arm as she facetimed her Dad catching up for the first time in a few days.

Sidney smiled softly listening to his daughter rambling about something that happened during her games that weekend and it always makes Sidney so happy that he gets to listen to her ramble something that doesn’t happen often and she only ever does to Sidney.

He titled his head to the side hearing a certain name being said again and he’s heard Fraser’s name quite a lot since Cameron has met him and at first Sidney thought Fraser was a friend and he was glad she had made a friend but with how much she brings him up Sidney is thinking there may be more there, something Sidney has never wanted to think about.

Sidney knew the relationship between Cameron and Fraser is different from just a friendship because she has never talked this much about someone and she has never talked about anyone the way she does Fraser

He watched her smile as she talked about Fraser and felt stupid not realizing what was happening earlier, Sidney had a feeling Cameron hasn’t even realized her feelings yet for Frazer.

Truthfully Sidney wants to never think about his daughter having romantic feelings for someone but he can’t change the fact that she is growing up.

Sidney waited until she finished her last ramble and spoke up, “So Frazer Cambug?”

“Huh?” Cameron blinked titling her head like a lost puppy looking extremely confused.

“You talk about Fraser quite a lot.” Sidney added smiling slighty at her being so confused.

“He’s nice.” Cameron nodded smiling at the thought of Frazer.

Sidney shook his head fondly at his obvious daughter, “CamBug do you like Fraser…. Romantic.” Sidney awkwardly questioned.

Cameron’s face blanched in shock and her face slowly turned thoughtful.

Cameron thought of all the feelings she feels around Fraser thinking they were just platonic, how much her heart squeezes in fondness from literally everything he does and how much her cheeks feel extremely warm around him.

“Oh.” Cameron whispered realizing her dad was right, she liked Fraser.

Cameron has known Fraser for almost two weeks now and he still hasn’t met Mr. Mack yet, they always just miss each other when she has her cat and he still hasn’t met the cat that Cameron is always talking about.

Cameron usually takes Mr. Mack with her to all of practices and games but being in a new city and new team she doesn’t trust anyone to look over her cat yet and feels safer leaving him at home more than usual.

Fraser was joining Cameron after practice to her apartment to hang out but most importantly finally met the famous Mr. Mack.

“You know i’m a dog person right?” Fraser questioned looking over at Cameron who was driving.

“Okay.” Camron furrowed her brows nodding, “You’re my friend now and you have to meet Mr. Mack.” Her cat was extremely important to her and she wanted the people in her life to know her cat.

“Okay.” Fraser quickly agreed and smiled happily at her calling him her friend.

Cameron smiled softly and pulled into the parking spot, she hopped out of the car with Fraser following right behind her.

Cameron led Fraser up to her apartment and she unlocked the front door and let Fraser walk in before closing it behind her.

She slipped her shoes off and jacket off and gestured for Frazer to the same if he wanted too, Frazier did and heard a little bell and saw a very fluffy all white cat walking towards them.

“Mr. Mack!” Cameron beamed and leaned down picking up her cat and he immediately cuddled into her arms and started purring happily while looking suspiciously at Fraser.

“Mr. Mack this is Fraser he’s my friend zane Fraser this is Mr. Mack.” Cameron proudly introduced the two, she is always so proud to introduce her cat to people.

Frazer smiled hoping to get Mr. Mack’s approval as Cameron told Frazer that he doesn’t really like most people, “Hello Mr. Mack it’s nice to meet you.” Fraser introduced himself and the cat looked at Fraser before sticking out his paw for a shake making Fraser smile thinking it was really cool as he gently shook his paw back.

Fraser let Mr. Mack smell his hand before he gently scratched the Mr. Mack’s head and Mr. Mack leaned into the touch and continued to purr.

“He likes you.” Cameron blinked in shock, the fastest Mr. Mack has liked someone has been Connor and even that took a few times for Mr. Mack to warm up completely to Connor but Mr. Mack completely warmed up to Fraser right away.

Cameron started waking away from the entrance way with Fraser following right behind her, she walked over to her couch and gently set down Mr. Mack and picked up the remote tossing it Fraser

“You can pick something too watch i’ll get some snacks.” Cameron spoke softly watching as Fraser sat down on the couch and she turned around heading to her kitchen starving from her long practice and knows Fraser is too.

She had her arms full of snacks as she walked back and stopped walking looking at the scene in front of her, Mr. Mack was laying in Fraser’s lap as Fraser petted him.

Cameron didn’t even notice the smile that was on her face as she watched the two interact and didn’t understand why her heart squeezed so tightly watching them.

new beginnings

September 18, 2021

Sidney frowned as they were almost at the Bedard’s apartment, it would be the first time his daughter was completely living away from him.

Cameron scratched the top of Mr. Mack’s head excited to see her best friend soon.

Cameron had met Connor a few months ago at the Canada U-18 and they were roommates and line mates and they are both so similar in personality they just clicked extremely easily.

Cameron was then drafted to the Regina Pats and Connor immediately offered for her to stay with him and his mom in Regina. Sidney felt more comfortable with her staying with a friend rather than a new teammate even though he has done it before.

Sidney parked the car in front of the apartment building and his frown deepened.

“Hey.” Cameron nudged her dad’s arm, Sidney looked over at his daughter who seems to be growing more and more every time he blinks, “I’ll be visiting all the time.” Cameron reminded him, she was sad too and felt unsettled at the idea of being away from her father more than usually.

“I know.” Sidney nodded and he leaned forward and rested his forehead as his hand cupped the back of her head, “You can come home whenever you want okay.” Sidney remaindered her as well.

Cameron closed her eyes as she rested her forehead against his, “I know Dad.” Cameron pulled back and gave him a shaky smile.

Mr. Mack nudged Cameron gently knowing his Cameron is sad.

Sidney and Cameron shared a look and knew they needed to head inside, Cameron tapped her shoulder and Mr. Mack climbed up Cameron’s arm and laid across her shoulders.

Sidney grabbed Cameron’s hockey bag and her big suitcase and Cameron grabbed her back pack and small suitcase.

They walked through the apartment building lobby and to the elevators and clicked on a floor.

They walked out of the elevator and done the hallway looking for the number on the front door and when they found Cameron knocked on the front door.

Connor opened the door and smiled softly as his best friend and her dad and opened the door all the way letting them walk into the apartment.

Cameron set down her bag and was pulled into a hug by Connor.

“Hi Camers.” Connor softly mumbled hugging her tightly, he has never had a friendship like he has with her and has never felt so comfortable with someone before and so quickly as well.

“Hi Con.” Cameron mumbled softly, she was really excited when she met Connor and they started becoming friends and not just teammates, she is use to having good relationships with her teammates but never really becoming this good of friends.

“Hi Mr. Mack how are you.” Connor softly spoke starching Mr. Mack on the head, who was still laying on Cameron’s shoulder.

Mr. Mack purred lightly and rubbed against Connor’s hand, Connor is Mr. Mack favorite person that isn’t Cameron and it’s probably to do with the fact Connor and Cameron are very similar and Connor is always getting treats and toys for Mr. Mack.

Sidney shook his head still surprised that Mr. Mack actually really likes Connor.

“Cameron!” Melanie beamed as she walked in the living room and saw her and walked over pulling her into a gentle hug.

“Hi Mel.” Cameron hugged her back.

Sidney fist bumped Connor and Connor still shook his head at the fact he knows Sidney Crosby personally but he also realizes Sidney is just a person too but more specifically Cameron’s dad.

Melanie led them down the hallway to the room for Cameron and left Sidney and Cameron alone so they can unpack some of Cameron’s stuff before Sidney has to leave.

Sidney smiled bittersweet as he picked up her stuffed penguin that she has had her whole life from her godfather and he set down on her bed, that they made with her light purple flower bed sheets and comforter.

Sidney looked over at Cameron as she was putting her clothes away in her closet and he frowned not liking she’s moving out for most of the year.

They are use to Sidney being gone for road games but usually they aren’t apart for long. They would now have times they are going to be apart for a while and they never have before.

“I’m proud of you, you know.” Sidney spoke up making Cameron look over at him.

“I know.” Cameron softly nodded, the two aren’t always big for putting their emotions into words but she knows her dad is proud of her, she has never thought otherwise.

“Good.” Sidney nodded back and walked over pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head.

He looked around the room and she was all unpacked and settled into her new room.

“Come here Cam Bug.” Sidney opened his arms up and pulled her into a tight hug, “I’ll miss you.”

“I’ll miss you too dad.” Cameron softly mumbled burying her head on his shoulder, “You gonna use your phone to face time me.” Cameron teasingly mumbled against his shoulder. Cameron has always found it funny how much her dad hates technology and she is one of the few people he talks to using it.

“Yes i will.” Sidney agreed fondly rolling his eyes.

“Good.” Cameron pulled away and sent him a smile.

Sidney walked over to Mr. Mack who was laying on the bed, “Watch out for our girl for me.” Sidney mumbled and Mr. Mack rubbed his head slighty on Sidney, the only time when the two will get along is when it involves caring for Cameron.

Sidney stood up and walked back to Cameron.

“Walk with me to the car?” Sidney asked wrapping an arm around her shoulders wanting to spend a few more moments with his daughter.

Cameron nodded and they walked out of her new bedroom and saw Connor and Melanie in the kitchen chatting together.

“I’ll take care of her i promise.” Melanie whispered as she hugged Sidney, they have become quite good friends watching their kids playing together and Sidney does trust her with Cameron.

“Thank you Mel.” Sidney whispered back and stood back and pulled Connor into a hug as well.

“We’ll take care of her.” Connor quietly promised and Sidney smiled slightly always finding it very sweet how much Connor is just like his mother.

“I know.” Sidney pulled back and clapped Connor on his shoulder before walking towards his daughter and heading out of the apartment.

Cameron grabbed onto her dad’s hand clinging tightly just as she always use to when she was younger, she still does just not as much.

Sidney smiled sadly and squeezed her hand back as they waited for the elevator to take them down the to bottom floor.

Sidney and Cameron walked in silence to his car and both had identical frowns.

“I’ll see you in a few weeks.” Sidney softly spoke and Cameron looked up at her dad with shiny eyes and he immediately pulled her into a tight hug feeling her little sniffles she was trying to hide and the shakes in her shoulders.

Sidney gently rubbed her back knowing that calms her down when she is upset and let her cry a little, Sidney felt his eyes filled with tears as well he held onto his little girl tighter.

Cameron calmed down and sadly pulled away from the hug and wiped away any of the evidence of her tears besides the red around her eyes.

Sidney kissed her forehead once more and sent her a soft smile as she nodded before getting into the car and starting to drive away. They both knew if they said anymore words they would both start crying again and Sidney wouldn’t be able to leave.

Cameron titled her head up avoiding anymore tears from falling and headed back inside into her new home.

Cameron had been traded to the Kamloops Blazer from the Regina Pats for what will most likely be her last season in the WHL as she is getting drafted next season.

She is also living alone for the first time ever as she lived with the Bedard family her last two season in Regina but is living alone in Vancouver now but she can drive now so it is easier for her to be alone.

Cameron pulled into the parking lot for the ice rink the Kamloops Blazer’s practice and play at and hopped out of the car grabbing her hockey bag out of the back.

Cameron walked into the building where her team is and checked in at the front and headed to the locker room, she said a few quiet hello’s to a few of her new teammates.

She got settled into her stall and started getting ready for her first practice with the team.

Cameron tapped her stick to the floor as she headed out of the locker room and towards the ice and bunching up with her new team as their coach started to talk to them and put out the first set of lines and partners he wants to try.

Cameron was called to go to left wing, a position she really likes plays and she almost likes playing it more than center.

Cameron watched as a boy was called to be center for the line she was in.

“Hi.” The boy quietly spoke as he stood next to Cameron, “I’m Fraser.” Fraser kinda awkwardly smiled and turned around holding out his gloved hand and blinked in shock seeing her, she was absolutely stunning and he could feel his heart speeding up looking at her.

“Cameron.” Camron soflty introduced herself and gently shook his hand and gave him a shy smile back.

“Cameron.” Fraser mumbled to himself thinking her name absolutely fits her perfectly.
