(ID in alt and under cut)
ID: Full body of Guillermo, topless and wearing green chinos tucked into brown boots, a stake in each hand, high-kicking a large bat out of the air. Guillermo's hair is overgrown, he has a cuff and fang pierced in his ear, double bar piercings in both nipples so it looks like a cross, an actual silver cross around his neck, multiple gnarled scars on his hands, stomach, chest, and face, and tattoos covering his body. The tattoos include, on his right arm: a saguaro cactus, a stylized Nahua gila monster, an evil eye, a bote joghe, and 'familia' written in cursive. On his left arm: an ankh filled with celtic knots, a circular maze, a sacred heart, some chain, and 'nandor' written in farsi. Both hands have an arrow on the back, a cross lain over his fingers like knuckle dusters, and 'de la cruz' written across each knuckle letter by letter. Also visible is a line of red crosses around his throat, crossed arrows and a star of david over his chest, a thunderbird on his stomach, a calli house on his right side, and a celtic knot on his left side. /end ID

That's it. I'm rewriting the Wade scene.
Sonic 3 spoilers
“The Master Emerald is being guarded by a fierce warrior, trained by my own hand!”
~~Meanwhile, in Green Hills~~
Wade Whipple, deputy sheriff of Green Hills, warrior-in-training to Knuckles, the last of the Echidna, and current bowling champion of the Green Hills bowling league, ages 35-50, stood at one end of a kitchen island, arms crossed over his chest.
At the other end of the island stood Callie MacPherson, head librarian of the Green Hills Public Library, personal tutor to Team Sonic, and current record holder for ‘most letters written to the editor of the town newspaper’, most in response to the minority of townspeople voicing a very loud outcry against the local alien children. (She just can’t help herself.) She also stood with her arms crossed.
They both stared down at the large green gemstone sitting on the middle of her island counter. Wade had brought it over, almost in a panic, as he asked for Callie’s help with it.
“Okay, so . . .” she began, her brows furrowed. “Walk me through it. One more time.”
Wade uncrossed his arms to rub the back of his neck. “Okay, so Knuckles left me in charge of the Master Emerald while they were off on their camping trip.”
“The same Master Emerald that can turn thought into reality, and what let Robotnik build that giant robot out of all those other vehicles that nearly destroyed the town, and the boys,” she said, keeping her eyes on the gem as though it would leap off the counter and attack.
“Yeah.”
“The same Master Emerald that let Sonic turn into . . . I dunno, some kinda glowy superhero.”
“Actually, I think that was something different? Like, there were other little gems inside and those changed him?”
She flicked her eyes up to him. “So what happened to those?”
He shrugged. “Knux said Sonic sent them away, but I’m a little fuzzy on the details.”
Her gaze fell back to the gem on her counter. “Uh huh.”
“Anyway, I was being a good guardian, like he wants me to be, never letting the thing outta my sight,” Wade said, gesturing with his hands as he spoke. “I kept it with me the whole time.”
“Right,” she said, before pointing to it. “So it’s in a bowl of rice because . . .”
“I dropped it in the shower.”
Her eyes flicked back to him. He held his hands up. “Hey, I wasn’t doing anything weird with it! It was just a little greasy after I took it to the movies. They really put a lot of butter on their popcorn.”
Callie rubbed her temples. “Wade, I really think Knux just wanted you to keep an eye on it, not date it.”
“He said never let it out of my sight, and that’s what I was doing,” Wade said, standing a little taller. “I wanna make him proud. And when it got wet, I remembered what I had to do with my phone when I dropped it in the punch bowl at the last Christmas party. So I put it in rice.”
She shook her head. “I really don’t think the principle’s the same, here.”
He shrugged. “He said it’s the key to ultimate power. And if something with power gets wet, that’s bad.”
Callie opened her mouth to say something else, but ultimately closed it again. She had no idea how magic gemstones from space worked, and letting it sit in rice seemed harmless enough. “Okay, so what do you need my help with? You seem to have it covered.”
He rubbed the back of his neck again. “I dunno . . . I guess I just wanted some company? Being a guardian to something so powerful and special is kind of a lonely job.”
She gave him a look. “Wade, they’ve been gone for like two days.”
Another shrug. “Two guardians are better than one, right?” She cocked an eyebrow, and he sighed. “Oh, c’mon, Cal. All we gotta do is make sure no bad guys show up to take the Emerald and used it in ways it was never intended. How hard is that?”
She was about to answer when a blast of wind hit them, and Sonic appeared in the kitchen. The two humans jumped in surprise, giving almost identical little yelps at the sudden appearance.
“Hey, Sonic!” Wade called, giving him a little wave. “Didn’t expect to see you here! How’s the camping trip? Were you surprised by your little b-earth-day thing?”
Sonic didn’t smile or wave back. He stared at the gemstone, brows pulled into a deep furrow. “I need the Master Emerald.”
Callie blinked, and exchanged a look with Wade. They’d never heard, or seen, Sonic look so serious. So angry.
“What’s going on?” Callie asked, moving closer to the boy. “What’s happened?”
He turned to look at her, and she stopped dead by the look on his face. “Tom’s hurt, the world’s in danger. I need the Emerald. Now.”
Alarm bells sounded in Callie’s head, and a quick glance at Wade showed he thought something was up, too. They both moved to block the Emerald from his view.
“Slow down,” Wade said, holding a hand out in a placating gesture. “What happened to Tom? Is Maddie okay? Where are Tails and Knuckles?”
Sonic turned to Wade, his lip curling in a snarl. “I don’t have time for this. Give me the Emerald.”
The deputy flinched at the hedgehog’s look and tone, which only further solidified the idea to Callie that something was very, very wrong.
“Sonic,” she said, trying to keep her voice gentle and even. “We want to help. But you have to tell us what’s going on.”
His snarl became more pronounced, and in a blast of wind, he’d zipped behind them and snatched the Emerald from its rice bed. He stopped at the kitchen door, looking back at them.
“No time.” Sonic lifted the Emerald above him and in a whirl of wind and flash of light, he transformed, his fur turning golden and eyes red. “I have to end this.”
And with that, he was gone, a strong burst of wind making Callie’s kitchen rattle and shake with its strength.
As her things began to settle, Callie looked over at Wade, who looked equally shaken.
“Think Knux’ll be mad at me?”
She stared at him for a moment, before looking back out where Sonic had gone.

in which i have immediate grey's feelings about 5x03
maybe cristina didn't do it intentionally and was just accidentally doing something shitty that i can't endorse her doing (when, like, big fan of my girl cristina yang being a weird, mean bitch that is a whirl of personal pain), which is spending the day in the middle of derek wanting meredith to have izzie and karev move out of her house that he's recently moved into only to have izzie be like "hey i might getting kicked out so think about moving in with me to this nice apartment" in a way that could have only been more clear if she had written her a letter that said "check yes or no" or like sent her a formal request to go halfsies on a deposit. so she then goes out and puts in a deposit for that apartment so that she and callie can continue living together. frankly izzie should have thrown a basket of bar nuts at her and had a fucking fit because what the hell dude.

Hmmm can you maybe tell us a little about this au? Like how everyone reacts n stuff
HI ANON! i wanted to wait a little bit to reply to this because this post was for april fool’s and i wanted to keep the sort of surprise a secret LOL. but i’ll entertain you cuz i love making my characters suffer.
i don’t PLAN FOR THIS TO HAPPEN in my storyline for them. i want them to be alive :). but if you want to indulge yourself in some depression here you go
TW: major character death, suicide ideation.
Sicily is rightfully devastated. after Kaity is confirmed dead, she immediately calls off the whole campaign. she tries to keep her cool, but as they prepare to leave, Pearl woefully tells her they can’t keep the body because it’s at risk of bringing the coral disease to the surface. this sends Sicily over the edge. she curses out Pearl and Marina, telling them that if she were here this would’ve never fucking happened, and that they should be fucking ashamed for their negligence. how Kaity was fucking everything to her. when she runs out of words, she screams until her lungs and eyes run dry, leaving her a husk curled up on the ground. Pearl, after recovering from the pure sting of the yelling, plucks Kait’s ring off of her necklace and gives it to Sicily. she grips it tightly, wordlessly.
when she returns, she starts painting again. she paints kait. she studies every photograph she has of her and wishes she took more. she learns every angle and every curve of her body. all she sees on her canvas is kait, modeling for her as if nothing were ever wrong. when she’s not painting, she’s sleeping. she yearns for her presence through any means possible. any.
Caroline is traumatized. she knew the effects were something to be concerned about, but she didn’t know it would go this far as to kill her. she mentally kills herself that she didn’t notice any effects sooner. she moves out of the apartment she shared with Kaity and moves in with Sicily, of course bringing all of Kait’s stuff with her. she moved partly because she couldn’t stand the ghost of someone’s prescence in their home, and also to keep an eye on Sicily. she can’t look at the number 8 anymore. Kirakira doesn’t know how to react, but after some thinking starts planning a memorial. he stays stone faced until the day comes, when he can’t control his emotions. he’d never cried like that in his life before, ever. after about a month he opens the memorial to the public, and lets a bunch of news companies know. eventually it even gets to the Anarchy Splatcast. her makeshift grave is stacked high with flowers, octopi merchandise and octoling models from magazines, and letters written from the public. he reads and views everything given to Kaity, and eventually stores and files it all away. he’d always been a fan of organizing things, especially with Kaity. he looks at it as them spending time together. Trikaya and Mitsuo are left distraught. they didn’t know Kaity that well, but instead notice the difference in Sicily’s behavior. she was no longer someone who they thought indestructible. she was hollow. left without a source of stability, and brought down by the heavy mood of the death of someone they didn’t know, they struggled to socialize with anyone from the NSS. eventually, callie and marie take the responsibility of taking care of them from Sicily. they still write her letters and make her trinkets, to which she sometimes writes back. Sicily would never want to worry anyone by saying this, but they’re the only forces keeping her alive.
Pearl and Marina mourn her as if they had lost a child. they feel guilt and grief, with each of them experiencing it totally differently.
Pearl becomes very protective of Marina. she almost sees a similarity in their past and current behaviors, and fears the same thing may happen to Marina, too. she takes her to every doctor and uses any and every method of science and pseudoscience to make sure Marina’s body is clean of coral. she also invites Sicily and Caroline to these outings, of which they went to the doctors’ appointments but not to any of the experimental things.
Marina becomes pretty depressed. she loses her sweetness and sassiness, and all of her emotions become filled with a sad twinge. she puts up with Pearl’s obsession so long as she gets cleaned too, she says. she keeps her ink color as Kait’s in memorial.

You often like to draw your TROLLSONA too, CALLIE OHPEEE. Yes, you suppose that's a stretch, fitting your name into the 6/6 letter format like that. That's ok, though. The limebloods reportedly had some unusual names. And they sure weren't very popular. You like to believe you'd have fit right in.
You've written endlessly about her, and nearly filled a hard drive with related artwork. You have wished for nothing more in your life than to be her. Alas, you are resigned to living out the rest of your days as a little green skull monster. It really sucks!
To the left is a drawing of nothing in particular. Nothing you understand, at least. This is a symbol which has haunted your visions for as long as you can remember.

sorn's letters to yesphyra
First letter - sent as Sorn and Calli left Maturana
to be decided -> either its joever or we are so back
Dear Yesphyra,
We won! Can you believe it? I can hardly believe it myself, even with the prize money in my hands. It’s a nice sum… I think. I feel a bit weird about it. Does this count as the first money I’ve earned on my own? Of course, it’s a bit disingenuous to believe it so when Callith was the main reason we succeed, but still, it’s nice to allow myself to think of it as deserved. Even if it’s just ‘kind of’ or ‘if you squint’, as you would say.
But sorry, I’m getting ahead of myself again. Yes, we won, but the last two battles were particularly tough. As you know, I’m no battle mage. Even now, the idea that I was capable of using my magic to willingly damage something - someone! Many someones! - is a bit baffling. It almost feels like it happened to another person, that I just got to watch as my body moved of its own accord. But I was the one commanding it. That is the weird part. Do I like that I did so? I don’t know. It certainly feels foreign. Sure, it is nice to actually do something - yes, just like you said through the sending stone - and I do see the point and the upsides of being more decisive, yes, yes, but I can’t help but hesitate. It feels like walking down the stairs in the dark not knowing if the next steps are truly there. Does that even make sense? I don’t know. It’s just… Sometimes I feel this bolt of anxiety that nudges me into a state of unreality - surely I’m not doing any of this? Surely I’m still home where I know my place, reading my books and finishing my puzzles? Surely I was not this stupid?
But then the anxiety ebbs away and I’m back… here. I’m not going to say it feels right because you know that nothing ever does, but it feels a bearable amount of wrong. I still want to jump out of my skin, but sometimes I forget that when there is so much to be seen. This was the right choice.
My magic did act up, twice. No one got hurt, thankfully, though I did make a fool of myself. I don’t even like thinking about it so I won’t, but you can picture any of the many embarrassing things I’ve done to myself throughout the years. This one is up there in my most ridiculous moments list. But no harm was done. I’m content enough with that.
Callith and I will continue to travel together. This will sound a bit ridiculous, but she is looking for the artifact too! And honestly, I’m better off not alone. I’m not sure what I would have done without her around to actually think things through. There is just so much to consider, in every step of the way. It’s overwhelming. I know you are probably frowning up a storm - yes, I should be working harder on making these decisions on my own. Baby steps, maybe? This will be a long journey. We will be leaving Maturana soon. I will (hopefully) have time.
I hope you are well and enjoying your time free of having to watch me do nothing in particular. Thank you for your assistance in the tournament. I know I can be… quite helpless. I’m working to remedy that. Truly, I am.
I hope we see each other soon.
Best regards,
S.
Second letter - written as the party was leaving Mato Alto, still not sent
Dear Yesphyra,
I hope you are well and things are as uneventful as ever at the manor. I know you must be bored out of your mind trying to cover for my absence. Has Arqwe or the twins turned up for a visit? I wouldn’t think so, but if they did I hope our planned excuses were enough to keep you out of trouble. Either way, know that you have my gratitude now and forever for doing all of this for me. I hope to one day repay you in kind.
A lot has happened since my last letter. I’m not traveling with Callith only anymore, to begin with. Two more have joined our group: Halazia, a half dragonborn (maybe?) pirate and Ashana, a warlock. Please do not worry too much - I don’t know them well, but I’m confident that they don’t mean to harm me in any way and their assistance has been invaluable so far. I’m quite sure we both overestimated my abilities when I set out on this journey, if I’m being honest. It’s clear to me now that I wouldn’t have gotten very far without help. In fact, I dread to think of losing this small party and much of my attention - and effort - is going into securing my place within it. I believe they are my best chance of finding the artifact.
And speaking of it, we arrived a few days ago in Mato Alto, a small town in the middle of a frankly strange forest, where we were able to glean a few clues about its whereabouts - rather, about where we hope we might be able to learn more about its location. Have you heard much about Três Pontas? I know it’s across the sea, but you’ve been to so many places, so I figure it’s worth a shot. I’d appreciate any information you might have.
As for Mato Alto itself… things were… well, weird there. I won’t pretend to understand what exactly was going on - it’s enough to say that monster attacks are becoming more common near the town, and that we managed to get involved in a fight with a few of them (please don’t ask me what events led to this situation. You probably wouldn’t approve of any of it). Don’t worry, though - we are all fine.
We are preparing to leave the town now. The plan is to go through the forest and make our way to Ponte Negra, where hopefully Halazia will be able to get us on a ship to Três Pontas. It’s strange to think I might actually board an actual ship soon. I’m trying not to think too much about it - I can’t quite decide if the idea excites or terrifies me.
There is much more I’d like to tell you, but this letter is already long enough and I don’t even know if I will be able to actually send it before leaving. Either way, I hope we get to see each other sooner rather than later.
Regards,
S.
Third letter  - written either on the journey to Gramacho or right after arriving there.
Yesphyra,
I’m afraid I might have made a mistake. We are not going to Ponte Negra anymore - or at least not right away, and that is, I admit, mostly my fault. I’m in the company of someone who knows who I am and who my family is - have you heard of a woman by the name of Jullya in Varre-Sai? Probably a noble of elf descent. I can’t quite place her, but her presence makes me uneasy and quite worried about you. One word from her to the wrong person in Varre-Sai and our cover is blown. I’m honestly quite unsure of how to proceed.
But I’m getting ahead of myself and rambling again. Sorry. Let me backtrack a bit: the trip through the magical forest around Mato Alto was short but eventful. Suffice to say, we had to fight our way to what (eventually) turned out to be an equally magical tavern. I’d rather not speak of how we secured our stay there through a letter, but it was a trial of sorts, and one that was unpleasant and might have thrown me a bit off kilter. I’m sure I can still blame it, at least partially, for how unsettled I still feel.
But I did get a magical lyre out of it. I might finally put all that time spent reading about music theory to good use.
The following day, we ended up mingling with another group of adventurers also staying at the tavern. That’s where this Jullya comes in. She recognized me immediately, apparently. She’s also very much into Ashana, which would be interesting and even amusing under other circumstances. It certainly isn’t now. You see, her party was called to Gramacho to try and solve an ogre problem the city is having. Well, I say her party but I mean our party now, because we are also going to Gramacho to help them solve their ogre problem.
Our deal with them is simple: we help them and after all is solved in Gramacho they take us to Ponte Negra without the need to go through the much maligned magical forest again. It is a bit of a detour, sure, but I admit I was not eager to face the rest of the forest after spending only one day inside of it. So that isn’t the problem - the problem is Jullya, the fact that many of her companions are spellcasters and that I’m afraid we don’t have this much time to waste. Not anymore.
We will certainly be out of our depth in Gramacho - I’m trying to get myself acquainted with the history of the place, but there is only so much I can learn before we are thrust into its politics at what seems to be a very delicate moment. Whatever help we can provide - if any - will probably not solve the city’s problems in a timely manner. And with another sorcerer, two wizards and a cleric around, I’m not sure how much longer I will be able to hide the source of my powers from the group. They might even know it already. I don’t know. Sometimes I think they do, sometimes I’m sure they don’t. The uncertainty is maddening.
And then there is Jullya. She seems nice enough but I can’t trust her. Have you heard anything from Mother lately? Yesphyra, I’m afraid this was a mistake. All of it. I’m not sure how Mother will react if she finds out you were covering for me this whole time. Be careful. I will not blame you if you chose to leave.
The worst thing is, this is mostly my fault. Calli, Halazia and Ashana seemed inclined to spend more time with Jullya and her companions so I made the deal with them. I convinced them that “hiring” us was a good idea. You are familiar with my people-pleasing ways, of course, and I did mention I wanted to secure my place in the party. I just couldn’t help myself. So I don’t have anyone but myself to blame for whatever happens next.
I wish, more than anything, that we could talk again but wasting a sending stone charge for this feels wrong. I put myself in this situation. I need to get out of it on my own.
Be safe, S.

i loooove reading about the splatoon idols' different names in different languages lately ive been thinking about the italian ones.
squid sisters: callie is "stella" and marie is "marina", and together they're "stella marina", or starfish :) their group name is "sea sirens", which, if it has any context, it's not on inkipedia LOL
off the hook: pearl is "alga" and marina is "nori", together they're "alga nori", a type of edible seaweed used with sushi!! "off the hook" is translated as "tenta cool", from "tentacle" and "cool"-- some variation of this is what they're called in a lot of other languages!
deep cut: frye is "morena", a real name similar to "murena", which means moray eel! shiver is "pinnuccia", a combination of the real name "pinuccia" (which is in turn a diminutive of the name "giuseppina") & "pinna", which means fin! and big man is "mantaleo", a combination of the "manta" from manta ray & "leo" from the name leonardo :D "deep cut" is "trio trigilo", & "trigilo" is a nonexistent masculine form of "trigila", which means mullet (in reference to the fish, not the hairstyle :P) "trio" is obviously the same in english, meaning a group of three people, so they're the mullet trio !!
also, in italian, big man says "man! man!" instead of "ay! ay!" which the splatoonwiki says probably comes from "manta" :)
last one because i'm too lazy to comb through every character's page, but harmony in italian is "monia", shortened from "armonia", which means harmony :3 <- authors note: he kept rambling after this. it was not in fact the last one.
i wish all the small characters & song / band names got translated to every language, and not just japanese & english (and the latter is if we're lucky!)... i know it's a lot of work but i would LOVE to know what yoko & the gold bazookas are called in italian. the literal translation would be "Yoko e i Bazooka D'oro" (Yoko and the Golden Bazookas), as far as i know "yoko" might be the only capitalized letter there, as it's the only name & the first letter-- but my guess would be "i Bazooka D'oro" would be capitalized, too, because it's the title for the rest of the band members...? (according to my research (a quick google search), you only capitalize the proper nouns in titles (and the first letter, of course), everything else is lowercase-- man that's easier than english!) =_= i'm not sure. but i do know that in italian they really don't use the ampersand (&) so "and" would just be written as "e", i think?
for chirpy chips, i really have no idea how to translate "chips". i assume it comes from chiptune, which, to my knowledge, is just the same word in most languages because it's so new...? my best guess at "chirpy" would be "allegro", though, which means chirpy or cheerful.
aw shit my phones gonna die so im gonna go ahead and post this. thank u for reading my rambles i hope you have a wonderful day :)

Note
What was your very first fanfic you wrote? It didn't have to be posted/published. Just something you could have just written and tossed or still in a notebook somewhere.
Long story... LOL I'll try to make it short, but it will need some context for my American friends to understand.
Back in the late 70s and into the early 80s there was a British Sci-Fi TV show called Blake's 7. The basic premise of which was (as quoted on IMDB):
In the third century of the second calendar, a corrupt galactic federation, with Earth at its center, Narcotizes its billions of citizens into placid submission. A rebel named Roj Blake, who once tried to organize a resistance group to overthrow the regime, was caught and his memories wiped. But Blake's revolutionary spirit is revived when he witnesses a mass slaughter by police which is covered up by officials. He escapes on-board a prison ship, and together with a lovable band of outlaws, takes over a vacant alien space cruiser of awesome drive capability. Christening their ship, "The Liberator", Blake and his group travel the Milky Way to seek any opportunity to undermine the corrupt regime. —Kevin McCorry (IMDB)
I loved that show. I was 11 when it first aired.
Tumblr media
The characters, left to right, Gan, Avon, Cally, Blake, Jenna, Vila.
Though the term hadn't been coined back then, I was among a ground of fans who firmly shipped Avon and Cally. Cally was from a planet called Auron, and was telepathic. That in itself was problematic in earlier seasons of the show because they fell into the 'alien takes over Cally' trap quite often, anyway, I digress.
(Spoilers follow in case anyone wants to search for and watch the show - Major Character Death).
In the final episode of the third season, there was a massive explosion that destroyed the ship, forcing the crew to take refuge on a the artificial planet in which they were in orbit. In the first episode of the fourth season, at the very beginning of the show, the underground complex in which the heroes were sheltering was destroyed in an explosion caused by devices left behind by the villain. Among the survivors of the crew, Avon was the one to confirm Cally's death in the explosion.
This was in 1981. I was 14, and being such a massive shipper, was not about to stand for that. I wrote a script (sadly, I don't have it any longer), in which the crew later found Cally, and during the course of the 'episode' Cally revealed how she had survived. There was angst, hurt/comfort and eventual romance. (No smut... I was 14 for goodness sakes!).
To make a very long story even longer, the school Drama teacher was my form tutor at the time, and gave him the script to read. Unknown to me, he sent the script to the show's producers. Not long after the show had ended, I received a very nice letter from Vere Lorrimer, commending the creativity, but of course the show was done by then. LOL
Thank you for the ask - and the trip down memory lane.

A child of our own
Tumblr media
synopsis: Your husband absolutely adores his little niece and it gives you hope he is willing to start a family as well. However the lack of communication on the matter is pretty apparent.
IMPORTANT author’s note: this can be read as its own work but actually it is written as a ‘continuation’ to @lunargrapejuice ‘s work  An unexpected surprise and I highly recommend to go and read it first to have an understaning of some things happening in my fic.
pairing: Diluc x fem!reader (with Kaeya and his wife in the background)
tw: established relationship, fluff, hurt/comfort, topic of pregnancy and children, wholesome brotherly bond between Diluc and Kaeya
word count: 6.2k words
Family AU masterlist
Tumblr media
Becoming Diluc Ragnvindr's wife meant you not only married one of the most amazing men in Mondstadt, if not all Teyvat, but also added his brother's family to your own.
It was never an issue though. Bonding with Mrs Alberich was extremely easy and quick, so now you have a brilliant friend, who is always ready to have your back and team up with you against your husbands should the necessity occur. Kaeya, your husband's brother, welcomed you warmly too, quickly labeling you as his favorite sister-in-law (doesn't matter you are the only one) and jokingly expressing his gratitude for agreeing to bear with the epitome of grumpiness the redhead is (and getting a glare from the redhead in question).
However the most precious member of the family you are always delighted to see is their now five-year old daughter, Callie. The girl with tan skin and silky blue jay hair looks at the world through the eyes resembling her mother's with a smile inherited from her as well.
She is such a sweet dear with a heart bigger than her little body. How else would she be capable of loving her dad, her mom, her favorite toys and that horse Kaeya takes her on rides with, and then come to your residence and happily throw her arms wide to hug Diluc and you, giving you kisses and trying to tell everything you could've missed. Barbatos, she is even incredibly kind to your staff, Adelinde easily becoming her favorite person with her tea party organizing skills.
You are glad you stepped into the family not so long after this girl was born. You've been there to witness Callie doing her first efforts in repeating words. You've been there to hear how Diluc Ragnvindr, the wine tycoon and most respected person in Mondstadt, turned into Wuc-Wuc due to the toddler's inability to pronounce some letters. You've also been there almost every single time your husband shared a smile with her, brought her a gift, carried her around and just was a good uncle to her.
There is only one thing that worries you - Diluc's lack of communication on the topic of starting a family of your own.
It always surprised you that your boyfriend and then husband never brought it up. At first it was understandable - the very start of the relationship, both adjusting to the fact there is now a person to share the most mundane things with and the mutual want to do so, among just the two of you, and kids simply weren't an option. Yet complete nonexistence of the discussion is a bit disturbing.
It all started when Callie asked the stoic man if she had any cousins, to which he obviously answered no. The curiosity of a child wasn't satisfied with that so the next question was about the reason. 'Yeah, brother dear, why?' asked Kaeya when the Dawn Winery owner fell silent. Back then he just threatened to kick him out if he didn't stop, and you thought that maybe he wanted to talk it through with you first before speaking anything out loud.
However, he never approached you with the topic, and soon it made you restless.
It didn't help your anxious state of mind that the little wonder didn't stop at that. She continued asking Diluc about cousins whenever the two met and her father couldn't help but tease.
"Do you hear it? Do you actually hear it? Archons, our girl is on a mission to extend my brother's family it seems…"
That became a joke among you. The 'usually kids ask their parents for siblings, but here she is, pestering her uncle for cousins' one. Once she even ran up to you and tugged on your skirt, looking at you up with big pleading eyes.
"Auntie, Auntie, can you convince Uncle to have a cousin for me? Pleeeeeeease!"
And you'd be happy to do that, you swear. Your husband, though, does not cooperate.
You always tried to choose the best timing: showing your excitement whenever Callie asked for a cousin, attempted to propose the idea only when your workaholic wasn't swarmed in piles of papers, nonchalantly, as if out of the blue asked him about a name he'd love for a child… and all in vain.
With Callie he doesn't seem to notice the hint, attention fully fixed on his niece whom he doesn't see a lot, all your propositions are abandoned the moment you try to speak and name wonderings fall to deaf ears.
One time you nearly embarrassed yourself in front of Adelinde who walked in to bring you two some tea, just when the redhead once again shushed your attempts with a gentle tucking of your lock behind your ear to leave a kiss on your cheek.
You feel confused. He loves you, you feel it with every soft touch he places on your body, even if sometimes it's hard for him to express it with words. This inability to communicate is disarming though. You want to nurse a small baby with soft tufts of red hair and pretty ruby eyes, you want to be called "mommy" and hear your husband being called "daddy" and see an even brighter smile on his face as he welcomes his child in his warm embrace. But you can't even get a specific answer whether he wants a child or not. You are open to discussion, to any option, ready to compromise because you still have enough time for everything. Yet the uncertainty eats you alive.
It's been months since the first time Callie had asked that fateful question, and your confidence in yourself and your future is slowly dissipating.
Even less it becomes whenever you go to the city alone. When you are with Diluc, no one dares to even glance at you the wrong way, but when you are all by yourself hateful comments are whispered or openly thrown your way by jealous young women or the noble elders, who dreamed for their kids to share the happiness of wedlock (and his wallet) with the most desired ex-bachelor of Mondstadt.
The lack of children? Quickly becomes another proving point of you failing this marriage, because if 'everything was really fine, you would've given an heir to Master Diluc years ago'. You try not to dwell on it too much, having a full understanding of where this all is coming from, but the more you hear, the more you start questioning yourself.
This morning was yet another failure and a fruitless attempt to strike a conversation with your husband about the prospect of kids. Your trip to the city the day before and a new portion of belittling comments kept you in a gloomy mood, even the sight of your lover's bed hair and a kiss pressed to the corner of your mouth couldn't help. So now you are sitting here, in the backyard of the winery with a table and chairs nicely set under a canopy. Your eyes are staring at the cup of tea, liquid has surely gone cold a long time ago.
But with movement in your peripheral vision it is hard to ignore the way Diluc is playing with Callie, letting her squeeze and tug at his fingers and occasionally twirl a lock of his soft red hair while she bounces in his lap. Kaeya and his wife simply watch the two with a serene expression on their faces, sharing occasional smiles and chuckling.
You love your little niece, you truly do, but watching the love of your love be so… doting with her (as much as his character allows) is hard. You tried not to let your emotions take over in the morning, but with each passing minute and thought your composure is getting closer and closer to breaking.
"Uncle Diluc, when I'm gonna meet my cousins?" Here she goes again. What started as cute and hilarious now is akin to a hurtful reminder. You know the approximate answer he is going to give her, yet the hope is still flickering in your heart.
You glance at the two, awaiting his answer. You watch the man's lips tug into a small smile, making your very being flutter in delight, and a hand reaches up to softly ruffle her hair.
"Oh, little lily, are you still asking about this?" Little lily. The nickname he picked from Kaeya's 'my lily' and reformed into his own version. It stung your heart to know he was so willing to show an uncharacteristic side of himself to someone else's child yet never consider having one of his own.
"Of course! And you never answer!"
"I do not, do I?" He muses, fingers ruffling dark blue strands. "Well, I think what we have is already enough. Our family, the five of us, is pretty enough."
You hear it rather than feel. Your heart shatters when your husband has his verdict. Current state of things satisfies him, but why can't he just say it to you in an adequate way? It makes tears well in your eyes but your try to calm yourself, smoothing your skirt to keep your hands busy, but lord Barbatos they are shaking.
You fail to notice a star-shaped iris glancing at you frequently from the moment you've settled down to enjoy lunch. It is observing you with worry etched in its gaze when you eventually excuse yourself clumsily and rush to what the Cavalry Captain can only assume a secure place to cry.
He doesn't wait long to excuse himself too, quickly pressing a kiss to his wife's cheek and squeezing her hand, a habit he picked during her pregnancy and never abandoned, and then rushed to look for you. To his relief you didn't make it far, he wouldn't want you wandering into the woods and stumbling upon hilichurls or something worse.
He looks at your trembling back, a bit hunched as you lowered your head into your hands and tried to shrink. He can't have that, not when it's one of the people he let in his heart and allowed to stay.
"Y/n?" Your body moves on your own, turning to the source of the voice faster than you can stop yourself. Through the blurr you notice the signature low ponytail, an eye patch and a soft glow of Cryo vision on the hip.
Kaeya…
You hastily try to wipe your tears, but a gentle hand wraps around your wrist, carefully drawing it away. Archons, you didn't even hear him getting close to you, he is really impressive. But his presence is grounding, you manage to get a hold of your senses and shakily take deep breaths and exhale.
"Hey, hey, my lovely sister-in-law… What could've possibly brought tears to your eyes?" he carefully tugs on your arm and you get the hint. Brought to the big flat rock you lower yourself with Kaeya following you. He still has a loose grip around your wrist and you are thankful for that, it makes you feel better.
In your current state you want nothing more but to open up to someone. It is a miracle that this someone is one of the closest people both to you and Diluc. You feel safe to trust him with the information and try to collect your thoughts. The man doesn't rush you. Thumb lightly presses on your pulse point with every beat of your heart to help to steady its race. The sun warms your skin, crawling under it and melting some of your worries away. What you are about to tell your brother-in-law is a private matter, but maybe an insight from the third party will finally create a stir in this dead end of a situation.
"Well…" you shakily start, fiddling with the fabric of your skirt. "You know me and Diluc have been married for some years now... And I never rushed him with anything, I know how important his job and other duties are to him, I know…" you stop to take a deep breath, the nerves are getting the better of you, especially with realization of what you are going to say next. Kaeya is silent, but presses his shoulder to yours and you gratefully lean into it, letting him wrap an arm around your shoulders and support some of your weight. "But when I watched for awhile how he interacted with your daughter I thought he'd be excited to start our own family. However..." New tears almost make you choke. "However whenever I tried to strike a conversation on the topic, he always turned me down. I... I really don't know what to think, Kaeya… Is it too soon? Have I been too pushy? Have I read the atmosphere wrong and he doesn't want kids? Does he…" you gulp a lump in your throat, tears streaming down your red cheeks again. "Does he not see me as the mother for his children..?"
"What?" Kaeya's eye goes almost comically wide and his hand squeezes on your shoulder. "Nonsense! If Diluc ever wants someone to be the mother of his kids it'll be you. I know my brother, gentlemanliness and a bit of his old-fashioned ways aside he is an extremely blunt man. If he chooses to say something, he does, if he sets his mind onto something, then he is going to stubbornly do it, and if he decides to keep a person in his life, all risks considered, he will. And he decided to not only keep you in his life, but commit himself to you completely. From now on whatever it is, he will always choose you. Always, I promise."
You are trying to wipe your tears the best you can. Kaeya is completely right, you understand what person Diluc Ragnvindr - your husband - is, of course you do. If only you could understand some more.
"I just wish he was more open to discussing it with me when I attempt to. He must know that I'll never hold anything against him, even if he chose to tell me he doesn't want a child, yet, hopefully, but he doesn't even let me start… and the citizens…" you suddenly fall silent. Kaeya tenses, bad feeling stirring in his chest. He just hopes his suddenly manifested suspicions won't prove correct.
"Yes, dear? The citizens..?"
You glance at him, rubbing at your tear-stained cheek and reaching into your pocket to grab a handkerchief.
"Citizens say, that there should be someone b-better, someone who would've already given the Ragnvindr household an heir…" tears start to choke you almost to the point of hiccuping, head hung low and face hidden behind the embroidered tissue. "I feel so pressured and all I want is to just create a family of our own, to see my husband chasing our kid, to see him carrying them around and kissing them goodnight, giving them a cute nickname to go with and so many other things more… But I don't have any answer from Diluc, so I can't even say anything to the nobles, only swallow their critique down."
At this moment, as Kaeya Alberich wraps his arms around your shaking frame and brings your body closer to his chest, he knows that it is the time he holds the conversation with his brother. It is his turn to talk some sense into him and offer him an ear to vent and support to lean on.
The Cavalry captain knows you are an amazing woman and you deserve the best in your life. So, he makes it his mission to try and make you happy, to see a joyful smile on your face and help you fulfill your dream. Sure he is not going to push Diluc into jumping right into the bed and start making a baby. He simply needs to encourage him to have a conversation with you, the one, where you both will finally bare your hearts and minds and hopefully reach some sort of agreement.

As your crying fit finally comes to an end, Kaeya lovingly pats the top of your head and ushers you to get inside the winery and properly wash your face - your eyes could use some cool water especially. He leads you to the entrance and watches you disappear inside and only then does he make his way back to where he left his wife, his daughter and his brother.
The latter has already passed Callie back to her mother, the two girls now standing a couple of steps away and petting one of the cats that frequent the winery grounds. Kaeya notices how the redhead is turning his head from side to side, a hint of worry on his face. Sorry, dear brother, he thinks, first you'll have to bear with me and only then you'll see your beloved.
"Hey, Master Diluc~ why don't we take a stroll?" He casually and leisurely walks to him. Flaming gaze clashes with an icy one, yet it's barely the same fierce way all those years ago. No, they both gradually softened up and had their moment of reconciliation. Kaeya only hoped, it was enough for Diluc to heed his words.
"A stroll? Maybe later, Kaeya, I am looking for Y/N. Have you seen her?"
"Your wife had to leave to tend to something and she needs some time for that. Why not use this time for brotherly bonding time? Come on, nothing will happen to your precious birdie if you let her out of your sight. You have a manor full of staff."
"I know, I know, she just left so suddenly… I wanted to make sure she is alright," as he speaks, Diluc stands up, putting the chair to its place under the table. "In that case, I guess we can go for a walk. A short one."
"A short one, I promise. Just give me a moment," Kaeya slipped past him, making a way to his little family. Diluc can't hear their conversation, but he can guess its contents. After that stunt of leaving his wife alone right after she confessed to him of her pregnancy, the man couldn't stop beating himself up. He made it his mission to give her a kiss and tell her about any of his departures to not make her worry. The Dawn Winery owner has to admit it is cute and shows how much Kaeya has grown up. Besides, he can relate to it, as he too always walks to you to give you any kind of physical contact be it a kiss or him wrapping his arms around your body in a secure embrace whenever he needs to leave for quite some time.
He is working on his capability of voicing the things that make him fall in love with you all over again, that worry him, that could comfort you… but lately, as children-related thoughts have been plaguing his mind he's gotten a feeling he is failing to do so. Your sullen expression this morning when he kissed the corner of your soft lips to stop you from speaking out loud of the one thing that kept him on edge for the past couple of months is quite an indicator.
He definitely doesn't expect Kaeya to raise the very same topic.
"Hey brother…" he hasn't noticed how they've already left the winery and walked to the lake behind it. Kaeya hums, evaluating the water surface. "I just wanted to ask, you know, about the kids," he bends down and grabs a stone. Contemplating how to throw it better and not getting from Diluc anything but silence, he continues. "No, no, I am not here to force you into it just to satisfy my daughter's wish, I swear. I simply wanna know, do you want to have one someday?" The stone hits the water three times before disappearing under. "And if you do, maybe you need some support and comfort? I will always be glad to provide it. After all, If it wasn't you who talked sense into me that day I... I am not sure where I'd be now."
Diluc is a man of few words, but right now he is out right speechless. Time does fly fast, huh? The least he would've ever expected for Kaeya to sound so dead serious and mature. Yet, here he is, staring at him with sympathy and determination hidden behind his eyes.
"No, I'm... I'm fine, Kaeya," Diluc murmurs, bending down and grabbing a stone as well.
"You are not telling me something, aren't you?" even if he doesn't look at him, the Pyro user can feel the gaze fixed on the back of his head. Kaeya has always been annoyingly perceptive, with nothing slipping from under his radar. "Perhaps it's your wife who doesn't want kids?"
This is not what Diluc anticipated to hear. Whipping his head around and searching his brother's face for a hint of mockery, he finds none. Kaeya knows perfectly well now that you are not the case, but he has to get a reaction out of him and fish the worries out of his mind. And when Diluc shakes his head, he already considers it one step closer to success.
"No, she wants and she even brought up the topic a couple of times, but I…" he falls silent again, but only briefly. There is a hand on his shoulder now, giving it a firm squeeze to send the message through all of that muscle mass and to his heart. Kaeya is here and he is ready to listen. It is another step closer to success when Diluc doesn't shrug the hand off and lets it stay, choosing to continue instead. "I always cut it off and I think I made her sad with that," the admission makes a dull ache in his chest appear. It's as if the flame in a fireplace is dying and suddenly he feels the need to express his worries, something he doesn't do often, especially if it isn't to his wife. "She is absolutely amazing and I know she'd be a wonderful mother to our children, but I don't know if I would be a good father."
An insecurity. A hesitance felt about the future. Self-abasement. And many other things the Cryo user hears in this one message and reads in Diluc allegedly unreadable and closed-off body language. Kaeya is all too familiar with the very things his brother is anxious about right now, he had not just experienced them years ago, but became acquaintanced with the shits on an almost intimately close level. He knows how to deal with it now, and he wants to teach his brother too.
"I think you are going to do an amazing job, Diluc. Look at my daughter, she absolutely adores you."
"I know, but it's not the same. Knowing that she has parents who love her and will always show her all the love they have and thus she'll never feel not loved I can be tranquil, showing her just what I can. But it'd be my own child, Kaeya. It would be me who would have to show them all the love I have for them and I don't know how. I am aware it is hard for me to express my feelings and I pray to Celestia every day for giving me a woman as loving and understanding as my wife is, but the child needs to feel love directly," Diluc Ragnvindr sighs deeply and turns to look Kaeya straight into his eye. "And to receive their love..? Of their love I am not worthy. I am not…"
The redhead expects his brother to agree with that statement - the owner of the Dawn Winery has done way too many unredeemable things to get his revenge after Crepus’s death, even now some of his actions in the name of secret protection of the City of Freedom if known can be considered horrible. To his surprise Kaeya only smiles and smacks his shoulder.
"Oh, shut up, you deserve everything and much more after all the shit that happened in your life. Think of it as Celestia finally having enough of ruining your existence and giving you compensation. Listen, being a parent is hard, I am not going to sugarcoat it. Snowflake and I spent many sleepless nights tending to our girl, we worried ourselves to the point of expecting gray hair to appear, and, personally I am not around as much as I'd really love to with all the work keeping me from my family at times. But! It doesn't mean Callie doesn't feel loved and cherished. Words are good, yes, but the actions speak louder. You are the man of action, you learnt how to express yourself better after getting together with Y/N. Am I not right?"
He is right. With you stepping into Diluc's life and deciding to stay every day is filled with love and comfort. He leaves the cocoon he put himself into all those years ago, and he feels relief from doing so. He feels free.
"What I am trying to say," Kaeya continues, bending down to grab two stones and give one to Diluc, "you two should sit down and have a talk on the matter, especially since it’s obviously worrying both you and her. Voice both of your concerns and work it out. Speaking from experience, a planned or prevented pregnancy is less stressful than an unplanned one. Just imagine how scared your wife would be if she got pregnant and, not knowing what you think about having kids, wouldn't know how to approach you. And would think, in case you agreed to keep the child, that you did it only because she kept asking you. Just please, talk to her, okay?"
The redhead stares at the stone in his gloved hand. Kaeya does speak from experience, knowing that his wife’s unplanned pregnancy was rough at first, hard on her while she kept it a secret not knowing what Kaeya might say or think. Even though it was only for a little while, Diluc can only imagine how badly she hurt when her lover didn't do anything besides run away, leaving her more confused and alone than ever. You shouldn't experience the same thing, and now Diluc is determined to never let it happen.
Two stones hit the water, merrily jumping forward, creating dancing ripples on its surface.
"Thank you," Kaeya glances at his brother again and notes the much calmer look on his face.
"You are welcome, brother dear. It's only natural for close people to help each other. Oh, one more thing before we return. I consider you worthy of having a family and capable of loving."
The Cavalry Captain doesn't fail to notice a small smile gracing the stoic face.
Tumblr media
Diluc doesn’t approach you immediately. As much as Kaeya is right, the man needs a little bit of time to collect his thoughts and calm his crazy heart and rushing mind. He needs to be careful, he is aware his previous rejections to talk about kids might’ve made you discouraged and for the conversation to run smoothly it requires him being as emotionally stable as possible.
That night he notices you have been in some kind of distress, but doesn’t comment on it, since your body language obviously shows you are trying to cover it. Diluc just makes sure to hold you close to his body, sharing his natural heat with you and cuddling through the night. A couple of days passes when he finally makes up his mind, wraps his work up way earlier than he usually finishes and asks Adelinde to keep anyone from disturbing him and you until tomorrow.
"My flame, do you have a moment?"
Not long after the dinner was over today, you found yourself in the living room with a book near the fireplace. You were going to use it to pass the evening while your husband would be working on his paperwork before calling it a night and going to bed. What you didn't expect was to see the man appear in the living room a half of an hour later and slowly walk to you with the very question spoken in a soft voice.
You feel a little bit nervous now, sitting in the bedroom side by side with your husband, hips almost touching. Usually the proximity brings your comfort but the rollercoaster of emotions from a couple of days ago is still kind of fresh and the uncertainty of the upcoming conversation is making your insides twist and churn.
The clock on the wall is ticking so loudly in the silence of the big room. With each tick hundreds of thoughts run through your restless mind, but you know you are good - it definitely would’ve been worse if your husband had asked for some serious conversation the very day you burst into tears in front of Kaeya.
Finally Diluc chooses to break the silence and be the first to speak.
"My flame, I have an important thing to discuss. The one I've been putting aside for far too long," in this moment you gulp silently, tensing and not taking your eyes off of him. The man takes notice and tries to offer you a small smile.
“It is about starting our own family, my love. About having a child of our own.”
Maybe it is something about his soft tone or the way he is gazing at you with adoration swirling in his vermillion eyes but suddenly the worry leaves your body. It just jumps off the branch and flies away like a little bird, leaving behind the smallest disturbance in the air its wings created. This manifests in a nervous laugh of yours.
“O-oh, ‘Luc, you scared me here for a moment! Honestly I thought you came here to discuss the divorce, haha.”
When you look at your husband's face, you see the kind of Diluc Ragnvindr even you don't manage to witness much. He is bewildered by your assumption, not seeing it coming at all. To be completely honest he starts panicking. The prospect of ever ending your marriage and going separate ways never crossed his mind, and to hear that he made you simply think it could potentially happen… He is an idiot.
"No, no, no, my love, there is not going to be any divorce," Hot lips feverishly press kisses to your temple. You subconsciously lean in his caress, reaching your hands to his and contently sighing when his fingers eagerly wrap around yours. "Divorce is never an option when it comes to you, my heart. Why would you even think so?"
Even if he has an idea why, he won't let you shut yourself in, he needs you to talk.
"I thought…” you start a little bit hesitant but then realize that you actually feel pretty calm to speak out. “I thought you were annoyed with me for trying to talk about kids," you gently fidget with his fingers. Diluc's heart aches, when he hears you say that - and he is the cause of it.
"I am so sorry, love…" he tugs your restless hands to his and starts pressing a kiss to each knuckle. His lips are warm and with each peck this warmth is seeping through your skin and right to your fluttering heart. "I am a fool," he murmurs against your fingers, still tightly clasped in his. "It was never my intention to hurt you like this. I am," he is not sure how to form his next words correctly. Ruby eyes gaze into yours and see the hint of hope there. 'You two should sit down and have a talk on the matter' Kaeya's words echo in his mind and solidify the need to do so.
"To be honest, I was scared. I just don't know how to handle a child of my own, if I even can do so. I struggle to express my feelings to you, what would it be like if we were to have a baby? What if they hated me? What if they thought I didn't love them and I couldn't prove them overwise? What if I was not there enough? What if I can't protect them- both of you, actually? And I tried to bury it and enjoy what I have now, but it wasn't right of me to turn you down like this and make you feel like I do not care. I do and I am sorry, love. This conversation has been put aside for too long, so… if you are still willing to have it, I am open to it."
A palm cups his cheek and immediately he leans into it. His heart wants to burst out of his chest when he sees the soft look in your eyes. He thought you'd be angry with him, and you have any right to be, he thought you'd scream at him, punch him for being a douchebag, shut him up with this idea because the opportunity was wasted… Yet here you are, leaning forward to kiss him lovingly, thumb rubbing his cheekbone and the man melts. His shoulders slump and hands cupped both sides of your face, holding you so delicately as you share a moment of sweet intimacy.
"I can't say I am not mad at all at you," you start, once separated, but staying close, foreheads touching, "but I am glad you eventually came to talk. Yes, I do want to have this discussion with you, to know what our future holds for us and be prepared to face it with you. Together. So.. share a piece of mind with me?"
You two talk. You talk all evening and way into the night about everything you desire. You slowly and much calmer retell your husband absolutely everything you've told Kaeya and he does the same, holding you impossibly close, and whenever one of you feels nervous or hesitant, share a loving touch to ease up the tension.
You also tell him about the bullying by the noble group of the citizens and for the first time Diluc's jaw clenches in anger. Sensing your insecurity coming back, he hurries to reassure you once again.
"I want to have a child with you. And we will, I promise you, my flame. Stay assured from now on no one will dare to reprimand you for not," he grimaces, "'giving me an heir' sooner. Whoever even phrases it like this? We are having not an heir, but a child… boy, girl, I do not care, as long as this kid is with you."
Your face lights up, hearing these words and finally knowing the thoughts that have been plaguing his mind for so long. His words feel like a lit fireplace when there is a blizzard outside - warm and welcoming, seeping to your very soul to wrap it in a secure blanket. It is the promise of the future you desire to share with the man who's been deprived of familial happiness for so long, whom you love with your whole heart.
"Please, do not rush yourself though," you say in the end, just before you will finally change your clothes to sleep. "We have time. Knowing that you are eager to have a child is really enough for me.”
“But I’ve made you wait for so long… Are you sure you want to wait some more?”
“I am sure. I want to help you ease your worries and experience fatherhood without trouble. For that we’ll have to ease your working hours, which means we need more time for everything. Oh, I know! How about this - I'll help you out with work. I know it will take awhile to clear up your schedule at least for a couple of weeks or maybe even months, but I am sure we can do it! We can use this free time and go on vacation! Relax and maybe then…" a blush rises to your cheeks and the man chuckles, softly pinching one of them.
"I married the smartest, most considerate and loving woman in this whole world. I love your suggestion. And I'll make sure we go on vacation."
"Really!?"
He nods and catches your happily laughing body in his arms, smiling himself. With you by his side he is sure, he'll be able to become a better man to be a good father to your child and the thought now doesn't sound all that scary.
When five months later you announce your pregnancy to the Alberich family, Kaeya knows that his brother and his sister-in-law are going to be fine - by the soft gaze of crimson eyes traveling from your happy face to your stomach and back, by the way you two are holding hands and giving each other a squeeze occasionally and by the general excited atmosphere swirling between you two. He gives Diluc a proud smile and the redhead nods, answering with a small one of his own.
Kaeya's job here is done.
And seems like Callie's going to get herself a cousin in the end.

You didn’t know when it started, but you could feel the sensation of being alive- the feeling of breathing, the sound of breaths, your head against the pillow, the blankets against your body. You were stiff, and it was bright- perfect reason to get up. Yet, it was difficult to- moving was hard, and going back to sleep sounded absolutely perfect. Yes, you’d stay in, even if you couldn’t sleep. There was nothing to do anyways, and Callie would keep you alive (bringing you food).
“My lady, you have a guest,” Callie walked in, abrupt as usual. A groan escaped your lips before you could decide to pretend to still be asleep. It would’ve been nice if you could. Before being asked, she added, “It’s Duke Suou.”
You bolted up. The Duke of Suou was here? Unprompted? You hadn’t set the day to today, right? No, you hadn’t. You’d set it to the end of this week; it was Monday today, and if you remembered correctly, the day had been set to Thursday. What could possibly bring the Duke of Suou, probably one of the busiest men in the entire world, here to your home on such a day, without an apparent reason? He was coming in completely unannounced, and to be frank, it was a bit rude.
“He sent a letter,” Callie said, as if she read your mind. That was both a little scary and useful at the same time. But when did he send it? That was the question.
“At 5 in the morning,” she looked you right in the eyes. She wasn’t lying or joking. What kind of guy was up at 5 in the morning? Did he even sleep at all?
Well, technically, he didn’t break etiquette- since it was an unspoken rule that a letter be delivered hours before arrival- but it made the point of the etiquette completely useless if you didn’t read it before his arrival. You sighed. This guy was surprisingly dumb in all the cutest ways.
He was already there, what could you do? You just had to meet him right? But he was waiting, and it was totally rude to keep a guest waiting for long. Before you knew it, you found yourself stepping into the one of the waiting rooms, the one where Tsukasa was waiting. You greeted him with a bow, as all the noble ladies do, and he made the effort to kiss your hand. Ah, yes, like how fiances should be. The two of you were fiances now, as per the contract that had yet to be written…
He had a bit of a blush on his face, some hesitation. What was wrong? Was it hot?
You asked what brought him to your estate this morning, and he simply answered, “I wished to see my wonderful fiancee,” A bouquet of flowers fell into your hand, red camellias. He came here… just to see you? Was he not busy? There was nothing urgent for you to handle? He simply wished to see you?
You looked at his eyes. Somehow, they sparkled- somewhat starstruck. The currently romanceless Duke, in love with you? Perhaps he was simply stuck in the act. He didn’t need to try this hard; all you needed was to borrow his name.
He looked at you for a moment a little too long, long enough for you to wonder what he was staring at you for. Was there something on your face? He swallowed.
“Uhm, I was thinking… if it isn’t too much, would you like to visit the shops in the Capital today?” Your eyes widened a little. He went through all this effort? To take you out on a date?
Well, first off, were you free? Technically, you’d set it as a rest day, but it wasn’t work. You could rest tomorrow, and knowing him, he would allow you to rest whenever you needed… and surprisingly, as much as you wanted to sleep, you were surprisingly energetic. Perhaps, was there leftover adrenaline from last night, or were you unaware of your own excitement for today’s proposed plan?
Whatever the case, Callie urged you to go. She looked at you with such intense eyes, which seemed to say “It’s better if you go.” Wow, Callie. Was she that desperate to go to the stores? Did she have something to buy? You sighed.
Sure, you’d go along with him. You were about to tell him to start going, until you realized- you were still in your nightgown. Ah, no wonder he was blushing. Though, the dress just looked like a dress, something you could wear outside into society in the 21st century, nobody ever wore just one layer here, sadly. You sighed, as you asked Callie to come with you to get dressed.
Oh, he’d been waiting for a while, right? Had he had breakfast yet? You asked, and he nodded his head “no”- and to be waiting there without anything to eat or to do, it was a good time for him to have something, wasn’t it? He was known for having a bit of a sweet tooth, and it would be a perfect time to ask him what his favorite sweet was; after all, he’d asked you yesterday, and it would be unbalanced if you didn’t know his, right?
So, you asked, and he displayed a bit of hesitation- was it too out of the blue? Perhaps he just wasn’t expecting it- or maybe he doesn’t eat sweets in the morning? The rumors could always be wrong; but considering how he’d sent a letter at 5am, this could possibly be revenge- if he didn’t like it. Though if he did, revenge failed but information required- and mission accomplished (found something to keep him busy while you got ready).
Parfaits- strawberry parfaits. It was oddly fitting- maybe it was that it was red, just like his hair, sweet like him, or maybe it was the vibes in general. It was hard to tell, but that didn’t really matter. What did matter was that you had now obtained that information- and of course, since you asked, the parfaits would be prepared as well. One thing about being a noble was that you could ask for anything and it’d be made. It was nice, having a chef work in the mansion.
Tsukasa had a smile on his face as you left; it was surprisingly sweet, and it lingered in your mind for a while. Perhaps he was just cute; he may be the youngest Duke in the Empire, but at the end of the day, he was just Tsukasa Suou.
Callie came with you upstairs, where you got ready. Especially because the Duke was here,  not just Callie worked on your appearance but multiple other maids as well. It was ridiculous how long it took to look decent enough to not get stares… especially when you were with the Duke. The higher your rank in society, which was pretty high at the moment, especially since the incident with Erebus and your involvement with Tsukasa, the more you were expected to dress up. Those trillionaires wearing sweatpants like normal people better be grateful they have the option to.
The maids were awfully busy, one doing your hair while another was fixing up your dress, the other preparing the bath and another sorting through all sorts of fragrances and herbs and such. There was no use arguing with them. It gave you time to ponder about things, and they would “uphold their honors as maids of this house”. It was a sense of pride about their work, it seemed. It might be cruel to deny them of that.
By the time you were done, you didn’t even want to look at the time. In what seemed like just a few minutes, Callie had changed herself into clothes for going outside, so quickly and efficiently. Working for a noble’s house was awful, but there were a couple of benefits in some areas- that being one of them.
You arrived outside with Callie, meeting Tsukasa outside. The butler reported that he “ate the parfait to the last drop”- it seemed he was satisfied. Well, that was good. He offered his hand to help you into the carriage, and it would be a waste not to take it, especially since the step was quite high for the heels you were wearing. When will the era of comfortable fashion arrive?
You waited for Callie to arrive, but before you knew it, she was gone. You asked Tsukasa, and he promptly answered “Ah, I’ve prepared a separate carriage for everyone else who will be joining us.” Ah, so that was where she went. You could see her so clearly, bragging about having ridden the Duke’s carriage, one of the most luxurious in the Empire. No wonder she wanted to go so badly.
How many people were there? Was there really that many accompanying you, or did he want to be alone with you? If so, was there something with the contract he wanted to discuss?
You asked, starting with the amount of people he was bringing along. There were knights riding alongside the carriages, but he said that he was planning to use the other carriage as storage… was he planning on buying something big, so much so that one carriage was not enough? Perhaps he did have some things to buy for himself… after all, running a dukedom required the purchase of many items, though it was quite the mystery of what exactly he’d need.
Once again, you asked why he visited today. There were no eyes to pry, no rumors to circulate. Over the horses, the carriage driver wouldn’t be able to hear you unless you yelled. He gave the same answer: he simply wanted to see you. Was he free? Was he not a busy man? No, he was very busy, he said. Then who was doing his work? His assistant? You asked if he was really here about the contract, and he shook his head “no”. There really was no reason for him to be here, then- to be spending money to bring you to places. The Duke of Suou was strangely irrational.
The carriage ride there wasn’t far, at least, since your home was near the city. By near, it was like an hour, but it wasn’t like it was much longer than an hour drive back home- although it was a little bit more bumpy. Nonetheless, this was the technology of the day, and there was nothing better available. The lack of modern technology really highlighted how good it was when you had it.
It wasn’t long before you’d arrived, Callie right behind the two of you. He got off first, and you took his hand as you stepped down from the carriage. It felt good to be walking again, after such a long time sitting on the bumpy road.
You found yourself looking for Callie, who was always with you. She was strangely useful, always knowing what you needed, sometimes even before you knew. She exited the carriage later than you, surprisingly, laughing and talking with the knights and other people the Duke had brought with him. Nobility was like being lifted and getting all sorts of nice things, but really, what was the use if it was so lonely up there?
It was a little less lonely when he asked for your hand again, and you put your hand on his arm as most noble ladies do. He was satisfied, a smile on his face had formed. Perhaps it was cute. Before long, Callie joined right behind you, along with the knights as they kept a little bit of distance. It seemed she was having a good time. Perhaps they had a lot of good stories to tell. Seemed like it too; Callie always enjoyed a good story.
You’d gone to the square, where boutiques and shops of the latest and upcoming fashion trends were, highly rated restaurants filled the air with the aroma of sought-after dishes, and the work of artisans on display for those passing by to see.
“I have a place I would like to show you… do you mind going with me?” he asked. Callie smiled; it seemed she would know what was going on. The knights whispered with her. Ah, it seemed they knew what was going on. Callie better spill the beans about this later.
You agree to going with him; after all, he was the one who wanted to take you there. It wasn’t like you had any plans. He knew the way, and Callie and the knights followed the two of you (somewhat closely). The shops were pretty, and once in a while you took a moment to see the window displays. They’re like something that could get you famous, if you posted a picture on social media.
Before long, you arrived at a place called “Lili Boutique”. Lili Boutique… as in, the famous dressmaker Lilianne de Rass? Her reputation was widely known, and if you were lucky enough, you’d have to wait months to even have an appointment with her.
You looked at him as if saying “Are you serious?”. He had a smug smile on his face, proud of himself that he was able to reserve this on such a short notice- literally, hours. That wasn’t really any notice, though. It was easy to imagine- if you were Lilianne, you’d be flipping out on such a short notice. Additionally, Lilianne’s brother in law, Kaysian de Rass, is a Marquess- only second in power to a Duke- literally, only a Duke could pull this off.
“Ah, yes, reservation for Duke Suou, correct? Come right in. Lady Lilianne is in her work area. She’ll be with you in the display area shortly,” one of the employees greeted you, dressed in a design you’d never seen before. You asked about it, and she’d replied, “Yeah! The lady lets us wear new designs to test them. There are a lot of them, and we get to keep them. She’ll keep making new versions until she’s satisfied.” Ah, that was nice of her. By the looks of it, the girl really enjoyed working there. A bright smile shone on her face; it wasn’t hard to tell that this was where she found her happiness.
Before long, you and Tsukasa had reached the waiting room, with dresses and suits on mannequins, displayed with jewelry from the partner store down the street and hats from the store Lilianne’s best friend was also selling in the same space. Really, no one went to Lilianne’s Boutique just to buy a dress- they went for a whole look.
Lilianne didn’t follow the trends- she created them. Thanks to her house’s connections, she was able to start the trend of “more comfortable fashion”. By more comfortable, she meant that the corsets didn’t hurt as much, and flats rather than heels were becoming more preferred. The dresses were lighter, and sometimes, she made the “joke” of a suggestion of wearing pants under the dress- just in case something undesirable happened. Though, maybe, that wasn’t a joke on her part.
Measurements in one hand, her bun almost falling apart, even wearing pants strangely similar to sweatpants and a shirt strikingly similar to a sweatshirt, Lilianne ran into the room. There was no other lady in high society who could be excused for looking like such a mess. She’s gained a reputation for being a hard worker, busy as always, and if she wasn’t busy with work, then something unimaginable would’ve happened.
“Oh gosh, Tsukasa, you’re really too much,” she laughed. Tsukasa’s mother often went here to buy dresses, perhaps they were close. “I heard you got a girlf- fiancee like, last night? What are you, seriously.” she grumbled.
“You’re still quite ahead of me, Mrs. de Rass,” Tsukasa laughed, and Lilianne laughed along with him.
“Well, Carsein and I definitely didn’t get engaged overnight… unlike you two,” she chuckled. “Anyways, what are you looking for?”
You couldn’t answer that- after all, you were the one who was taken to this place- but Tsukasa did.
“I’d like to have a few dresses made for her.”
“Anything you want specifically?”
He looked at you. Uh, whatever was trendy? Though, this really wasn’t the place for that, especially because this place was known to create the trends, not follow them.
“The best I have? Well, you have to give me something, girl. I don’t just whip up ideas like magic,” she sighed. She spoke so “modern”... rumors say she was found on a lake maybe she was reincarnated there. That wasn’t part of the novel…
Well, perhaps it would be good to look at the practical side of it. You’d be wearing it with Tsukasa, who had always worn black, purple, or red. Those were his family colors, the ones on the Suou flag. He was praised from a young age for possessing those same colors, purple in his eyes and red in his hair. They believed he was born to be the true representative of the Duchy of Suou.
If you were to match, perhaps red would be the choice. No matter what he wore, it’d match with him. Plus, you’d met in a field of Red Camellias. It would be good publicity if you had requested something to do with those… perhaps it was a little bit special. It wouldn’t be too much if you requested something meaningful from the Empire’s greatest dressmaker, would it?
“Oh my gosh, y’all are literally so romantic,” Lilianne smiled. “Anything else?”
You turned to Tsukasa. At this point, that was all you had. He probably knew more about dresses than you; though, maybe the original owner of your body was more acquainted, but the Empire was far too complicated with matters like these.
“I trust that you’ll be able to create a dress from that?” he asked Lilianne. Wouldn’t that translate to “Just work with it”? Lilianne sighed and gave up asking.
“Alright, let’s get your measurements,” Lilianne got up to get the things she needed. Despite the amount she talked, she was incredibly quiet and focused on her work. Perhaps that was what passion did to someone. By the time she’d written everything down, you’d had enough time to look at the dresses available. Shopping was incredibly slow paced, but at least you weren’t rushed. You could take your time, and nobody would ever put blame on you. After all, the place was fully reserved.
There were a few dresses that caught your eye by that time, and Tsukasa was fully prepared to pay for it. But you could pay for it yourself. You were of noble origin, and that did mean you had a thing called: money. You asked for Callie, and for a moment it seemed like she wasn't there. However, when she appeared, she was wearing an entirely new dress. It was gorgeous, actually.
You asked if she had brought money for you, from your own allowance, and she said, “Yes, I knew you’d want me to bring it.” So, you made haste in telling Lilianne that you’d pay for your dresses, until Tsukasa started insisting to pay for it. As you were negotiating with the Duke, Callie butted in, “Can you pay for my dress, and he pays for yours?”
You were done. You were done. You were done arguing. You were not going to deal with this any more. It was like talking to a wall, and then another wall showed up. Hands up, you agreed. Fine. Tsukasa objected with, “I’ll pay for yours as well-” until he was interrupted with Callie’s signature glare.
He shut up pretty fast. That was the only way to describe it. Callie knew how to talk with eyes; she was pretty good at it. Maybe she could teach you, though she’d likely respond with “There are better things for you to learn, my lady.”
You walked out with a sigh, and it had been hours that you were in Lilianne’s Boutique. After that argument, it was quite awkward, between you, Callie, and Tsukasa, but as soon as you left, he seemed like he remembered something.
“My lady, would you like to visit Diamond Lotus Bakery? I heard they have wonderful sweets here,” he offered his arm for you to hold, which you took. It felt nice, actually. Diamond Lotus Bakery was quite a popular bakery, and many couples and families often went there to visit. There was a large variety of sweets not only from the Empire but sweets also from neighboring and far away nations. It was truly a one-of-a-kind place. You’d heard a lot about the person behind it all, Mio, who had moved to the Empire at a young age and pursued both baking and music, and every item sold and every piece played had been made by them. Yet, despite the popularity of this mysterious figure, no one had ever seen their face. Every note from Mio was signed off with a doodle of a cat, and all the people who worked there had simply begun saying their boss was a cat.
It was definitely a nice place to go to, and so you accepted, especially because you hadn’t eaten in hours, and after that “argument” with Callie and Tsukasa, putting something in that stomach of yours would help.
You and Tsukasa sat down at your own table, while Callie got her own. You were given a menu, which listed all kinds of sweets and snacks. They all looked so good, and it was easy to tell that Tsukasa had decided on what he wanted quickly; it seemed that he was a frequent customer.
Before even you and Tsukasa had managed to order something, you found yourself looking in Callie’s direction, ordering for herself. Huh, you didn’t know she was fond of hot chocolate with extra whipped cream and marshmallows. It was surprising how little she let other people know about her.
Before long, someone came to take your orders, and by the time that was done, Callie had taken out a book and started reading. You wondered what it was, and Tsukasa had read it aloud before you’d figured it out. That idiot- what if Callie had heard him and realized you were trying to figure out what she was reading?
It wasn’t until the sun started to set that the thought about going home occurred to you. Being outside in the dark was dangerous, actually- bandits roamed the roads around that time, trying to get unsuspecting and tired travelers. It was hard to see, which made them harder to identify too. So, as much as it was fun being out now, it was better to head home before it got dark- and so, you, Tsukasa, and Callie headed out.
Luckily, by the time you’d gotten back home, flopped onto your bed, you hadn’t been attacked and arrived home safely. Tsukasa’s “I’ll miss you” expression, which effectively doubled as a “please please please..?” expression, was strangely memorable. It’d taken almost all of your energy to change into pajamas, and before you knew it, you’d hit dreamland.
You felt the bed move, something got on it. It was cold, and the moon shone in your eyes; it was hard to stay asleep, yet it was still hard to see. You just knew that something was wrong, and before you knew what was going on, your hand was over your throat, and your hand had been stabbed by a knife.
Before you knew who it was, the person bounced off, managing to hit the plants by your balcony doors before leaving, yet as they left, their hood loosened and a necklace shown, and there was only one person who had that necklace- Mairi, the original protagonist of the story, and your “longtime friend”- who was supposed to be at the Academy.

fic writer interview ✍🏼✨🗣
many moons ago, i was tagged by some beloveds (of which i remember @squidyyy23 & @shameless-notashamed but i know there were more!) to do this fic writer interview. since it's been going around again, i've been tagged by @energievie @very-sleepy-head & @thisdivorce, so without further ado, HERE IT IS:
- - - - -
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 26 -- 24 fics & 2 art series!
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 145,909
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? M8TE | where you end & i begin | an exception to the rule | a seven letter word for love | tell me what you want, baby
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? i do! i try to at least! they mean the world to me & i love how interactive fic writing can be!
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? oh gosh.... maybe no matter what tomorrow brings, which i wrote for kinktober 2021? the ending is fairly sweet, but it's 7x11 canon compliant, so we all know they say goodbye the next day 😭
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? definitely an exception to the rule. it's the only wedding i've ever written lol.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written? not yet! & no plans, but never say never?
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic? not really, which i'm grateful for!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? hell yeah. existential, feral, it's all hot to me!
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen? not that i know of!
11. Have you ever had a fic translated? also not that i know of!
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before? nope. i'm definitely not opposed, but i do enjoy working by my little lonesome. i would like to do more fic/art collabs though in the future!
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship? feels a bit obvious, no? 😉
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? i don't have any current wips! but i do have a couple ideas knocking around... southside shrouds & another calli prompt that's weaseled its way in! we'll see!
15. What are your writing strengths? i think my metaphors & use of descriptive language is unique! i also love weaving canon lines into au's in ways that are hopefully satisfying!
16. What are your writing weaknesses? oooh this one's interesting & to be honest, i'm pretty up my own ass at the moment, so nothing? lmaoooo. i'd like to improve on world-building. i can really rely on folks's understanding of the characters in canon to fill in the blanks when i slack on adding details.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in your fics? i don't mind when other's do it, but i don't think i will? unless the scenario called for it. but i would never want to get it wrong, so i'd have to consult with native speakers!
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for? this one! though technically i've been writing a shakespeare au in screenplay form for years.
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to? i really love the boys of red, white & royal blue. but so far i haven't felt called to write. just shove fics in my face.
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? probably M8TE. but lord, what a sophie's choice moment 😉
- - - - -
i'm not going to tag anyone because i was already in everyone's inboxes this morning, but if you wanna play, do it & tag me, ok? xx

Promises, Promises | 4. Will The Real Calliope Please Stand Up?
Summary: Callie and Harry are both trapped in a house with a murderer.
Only problem? They each think the other person did it.
Word Count: 2k
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Callie can only blink up at him, a million and one thoughts running through her mind.
And then... she laughs.
"Are you kidding me?" she scoffs, leaning away from him. "Are you stoned or something?"
Harry smirks but shakes his head. "No. No, actually, I'm just right. See... you fucked up, Calliope. You left your fucking letter on the goddamn train tracks for anybody to find."
Now... her heart really does skip a beat and her relaxed smile quickly fades.
She'd forgotten that while Harry might be a gigantic pain in her ass... he's also a gigantic part of her childhood.
They used to walk to and from school every day along those tracks, spending most of their evenings in those same woods until the sun went down.
They had grown apart once high school started, which wasn't a huge surprise to Callie, but she never thought he'd remember their old stomping grounds.
Much less still go there.
She's never seen him there before, and she definitely would have, seeing as she's always there. After all... it's her happy place.
The tracks haven't been used in years, with grass and weeds beginning to grow over them, but that only makes it feel more like a sanctuary to her. A quiet reserve for her and her mind.
And it's in that same reserve that she decided she couldn't take it anymore.
She'd written the letter there. With no intention of ever acting on it... but she can't believe she left it. It must have slipped from her pocket when she wasn't looking.
And of course Harry would be the one to find it.
She steps back, eyes narrowing as she glares at him. "I don't know what you're talking about."
But her annoyance only confirms his suspicion, and he clicks his tongue in disappointment. "Come on... you can do better than that, can't you?"
Callie can feel her skin growing hot under his stare and her anger begins to rise. How could she be so stupid? "You're an asshole. My best friend is dead. She's... she's... she's just gone, and you think I did this?"
"I think you wanted to, yeah," he agrees, lips curling up smugly. "But I don't think you did it. I don't think you know who did it... do you?"
She continues to shoot a dark look his way, refusing to acknowledge his accusation.
And then... he reaches for something in his back pocket.
Her eyes widen in surprise as he then retrieves a crumpled piece of paper, unfolding it until a familiar pen stain appears.
And she knows exactly what he's about to do.
In a heartbeat, she lunges for the paper, desperate hands grabbing for the item as he quickly lifts it into the air above both their heads, smirking down at her as she jumps up.
"Uh uh," he tuts, his tone low. "Settle down, Calliope."
She grunts, still standing on the tips of her toes to greedily grab at the paper, but to no avail.
His head tilts up as he begins to scan the words on the page, clearing his throat before he begins. "I can't take it anymore," he reads aloud and her breath hitches, the familiar pain resounding in her ears as fresh as the day she wrote it. "All these people. These faces. They mean nothing."
She tries yet again to jump for it, but he moves it from one hand to the other, now turning away from her and forcing her to step back with a huff.
"I watch... I wait. For something. For anything. To feel what I'm supposed to feel." His voice is still a low grumble, but he's mocking her. She knows he's mocking her. "They don't understand what they do. Don't understand that their lives are meaningless."
She steps back. Again. And again. Her eyes shoot daggers at his back until he turns around to look at her, still smiling as he returns his focus to the paper.
"Their only purpose... is to die," he finishes, head tilting, as if amused. "Then, maybe they'll finally understand how little they mean. How little they matter. I can show them exactly what their purpose truly is."
Her hands ball into fists by her side, taking slow, deep breaths as he finally lowers the paper and meets her eye.
"Poetic," he hums, slipping it back into his pocket. "Really. A little rough in some places, but overall, not bad."
"That doesn't prove anything," she mumbles, struggling to find a way out of this.
His arms cross and he leans back against the wall. "Proves plenty. You made those invitations, sent them to everyone you fucking hate, and brought them here to die. To fulfill their purpose, I believe you called it."
Her lips press together in a thin line. "You sound ridiculous—"
"Do I?" His voice deepens. "Come on, I gotta know... what was your plan? You know, before it all went to shit. What were you gonna do? Gonna lock us all in here? Got some smoke bombs hidden around here or some shit? What?"
Her head begins to shake, refusing to acknowledge him. Refusing to play into his game. Refusing to admit defeat.
"Tell me, Calliope," he urges, stepping closer to her until she's backing away from him. "What were you gonna do, hm? Hurt us? One by one? Watch us bleed? Make us beg you for mercy? Is that what you wanted? Wanted to hear us beg you for a life you don't think we deserve to live?"
He's taunting her. It's all she can hear in her head. The cruel tone of his voice. His condescension. His disbelief.
Her eyes squeeze shut. This is not how it was supposed to go, she whispers to herself. No, no, no.
"What happened?" he continues, walking even closer. "Huh? How did you lose control so fucking fast? How did you lose your fucking nerve that quickly? Couldn't fucking do the one thing you were supposed to, could you? Someone else had to do it for you. Somebody else is playing your game... and winning—"
Her hands meet his chest, now only a few inches from her, and she shoves as hard as she can. "Enough!"
He stumbles, barely, but she doesn't care. She only cares about getting him to stop talking.
And he does, his grin now much wider as he looks down at her, hands shoving back into his pockets. "Not the same little girl I used to carry home every day on my back, are you?"
She moves against the wall, her back meeting the hard surface as she glares at him, crossing her arms similar to the way he had before.
"This is a good look for you," he continues, exhaling a laugh. "No, really. Just a little ball of rage and mass genocide. Goes great with the bow."
"You're such a dick," she finally sneers, her eyes narrowing even more as she scoffs. "Just as fucking pretentious as the people you claim to hate."
At the use of such foul language from such a sweet mouth, Harry's arrogant grin doubles in size. "There she is. The real Calliope St. James, everybody. Come on... take a bow."
Another scoff. "This is why we aren't friends anymore—"
"Wrong, Princess," he interrupts. "We're not friends because you stopped coming around—"
"I stopped coming around cause you started hanging out with those assholes—"
"You mean Derek."
Her lips purse shut. "No, not just him—"
"Yeah. Yeah him," Harry corrects. "And Brittany. And Angela. And Mark. Is that what this was all about? Got your fucking feelings hurt cause I got some new friends?"
"You're so fucking full of yourself," Callie retorts with disgust, looking away. "Always have been. That's why we're not friends."
"Yeah? So that's why you brought me here?" he questions. "That's why you wanted to kill me?"
Her face scrunches up with contempt as she turns back to him. "I didn't send out those invitations."
"Come on," he snorts, eyeing her closely. "We're past the bullshitting now, aren't we?"
"I didn't," she insists, her tone growing more aggravated. "Yeah, I wrote the letter, but I didn't write those invitations. Why would I have sent one to myself?"
"So you wouldn't look like a suspect," he replies coolly. "You're a smart girl, I'm sure you had everything figured out. I mean, except for the part where you lost control of your own fucking game—"
"So it was you," she cuts in, stepping forwards. "Typical, always finding a way to fuck shit up for me—"
"I told you, I didn't do this," he scoffs, waving his hand towards the closet door where Lexi still hangs. "I was in the fucking kitchen with you, how would I have done this?"
"I don't know, maybe you have help," she retorts, hands finding her hips. "Maybe you've been playing us this whole time—"
"Us? Who is us?" he repeats. "You and Lexi? Really? You think I give a fucking shit whether or not you two believe me?"
"Fine, so you didn't do it and I didn't do it," she grunts, now glancing towards the closed bedroom door. "That means someone else in the house did... and I don't know who."
"Are you sure about that?" he snorts, looking over as well. "After all, it was your idea—"
"My idea wasn't this dumb," she interrupts, shotting another vile look his way. "This kind of stupidity has you written all over it—"
"I'm touched," he smirks, hand going over his heart mockingly. "Really. No, give me another compliment, come on—"
"Forget it," she grumbles under her breath, now moving towards the door. "I'm not doing this. I don't know why we're here but I'm not gonna spend my last few moments with you."
"Well tough fucking shit cause you don't have anywhere else to go," Harry reminds her cockily. "You either die out there or you live in here—"
"I'd rather die than stay in here with you," she tells him, and for the first time, she actually means it. "I'll figure this out on my own."
"Like fucking hell you will," he scoffs, moving closer to her. "No, you need my help—"
"I don't need you—"
"Nice try, Princess, but maniacal letter or not, you're not the fucking ninja you think you are—"
"You're so annoying—"
"And you're so naive," he retorts, placing his palm on the door she had cracked open so he can slam it shut. "Use your fucking head, Calliope. If somebody else is playing your game, that means you're already losing. You don't think you were invited here just to watch, do you?"
She hates to admit it, but he has a point and her heart sinks as she looks up at him. "No, but... don't you think they'd have killed us by now if we were really who they were after?"
"Not unless they wanna play with us first," he mumbles, brows creasing together. "Until we're the last ones left."
She returns her focus to the door, staring down at the handle as she forces herself to think. "Then maybe we don't give them the chance."
He watches her closely, and she wonders if she really can trust him.
But then, she decides... she doesn't really have a choice.
"I picked this house for a reason," she tells him, now cracking the door open once again. "It was built in the 1800's and has more secret doors and hallways than you could ever imagine."
Now he begins to smirk, seemingly pleased with her admission.
They begin to sneak slowly out of the room, with Callie leading them towards the staircase.
"We have two choices," she tells him as she stops on the ledge, now crouching down to flip the end of the rug over.
Beneath, a latch door, and Harry's eyes widen as she looks up at him.
She quickly opens it, lifting it up and resting it to the side as she sighs. "We can either find our way out of this house and never look back..."
Harry crouches down as well, now looking over her face.
"... or we can stay and find out who the fuck is really behind all this," she finishes, meeting his eye.
They hover near the edge of the crawlspace for a moment as Harry's brows furrow together.
She already knows what her answer is.
She just needs to know if he's in... or out.
And right when she thinks he's gonna pussy out... he begins to smile.
"Let's find the fuckers," he declares, arms resting over his knees as he smirks. "And take the fucking game back."
