“Love alone can do anything,” writes Catherine Castro in the preface to CALL ME NATHAN, a graphic novel about a transgender boy as he grows up and struggles with his identity, eventually triumphing.

When I say that I cried by the end of this book, I mean quiet and heartfelt tears. The slightly truth, slightly fictional story touches on so many aspects of being transgender and queer.

Reading Nathan’s story was very powerful and made me think about my friends, my family, and myself; people who have gone through gender struggles and the societal/parental pressure of being someone you’re not. The end of the story was so beautiful and hopeful that tears were running down my face. To love and be loved is so important.

Mod opinion: I haven't heard of this book before, but I find the cover kind of shitty and it sounds like your typical written-for-and-by-cis-people trans sob story and I'm not interested in these.

I keep seeing that post going around about how Heartstopper being properly advertised and renewed by Netflix while queer shows like Dead Boy Detectives are cancelled shows the white cis gay box Netflix feels more comfortable with. Idk, I think there's a valid conversation to be had there, but that post to me feels like such erasure of all the other representation Heartstopper has. It's deliberately ignoring Elle, Tara, Issac, Darcy, Sahar, Mr. Ajayi, and Mr. Farouk.

Summer collection no. #7

The Vortex - mixed with the nightmare part of the fiction called Nightmares Run Wild (yet again) and the storm videos I've been watching and relating to lately (there's no tornado in the fic).

I did this one in like 2-3 hours, so there's no early access for it. Go listen to Nathan Wagner.

Thinking about how in a single gameplay Jason (who already has blood on his hands and conscience from an incorrect call) can be faced with the decision to:

let Merwin face the vampires alone

stab Joey

shoot or abandon Clarice

shoot Rachel

lie to Nick about his chance of survival

leave Salim to die

And then thinking about how they find Balathu or Kurum half preserved and suffering and Salim decides they must put him out of his misery. And how when Jason automatically moves to follow through, Salim puts a hand on his gun and says “I’ll do it.”

It’s a choice born of practicality, not kindness. But to Jason, who’s made the call so many times he’s gone numb, it must also be a lifeline.
