Arcane saison 2 theory /analyse /spoiler
in season 1 Caitlyn has her hair on the right side. or from the moment she has her new outfit and her new haircut, very military, when she becomes radicalized her hair changes sides. also she wears a bun, it is certainly more practical, which is common to the army because more practical but also much stricter. I interpret this change as a way of illustrating her radicalization. we see in the season when she is from undercity/zaun that she wears a ponytail. it certainly allows her to blend better with the crowd which is not so strict but we see that the ponytail is a practical cut. also in season 1 when she was an enforcer she had her hair down, certainly the routine of the police force was certainly. calmer but even in more intense moments like during her first investigation she has her hair down. that's why I believe that these hairstyle changes evoke her personality. in arcane we can also see this with characters like vi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
however at the end of season 2 as put in the trailer cait changed her hairstyle again. so it is not uncommon that during a fight she is disheveled but she no longer really has a lock on one side on the contrary her hair falls on both sides. so it is my theory at this time cait changed personality again finding herself in between her personality before and after where she would be more nuanced. an event comes to break the vengeful and dictatorial caitlyn making her more human like the one we knew in season 1. her beautiful neat haircut collapses like her vision of the world. a bit like in season 1 or elegant peacekeepers she changes her outfit and hairstyle when she goes to investigate in zaun. her vision of the world changes

The theory of Caitlyn shooting Jinx's finger off to stop her from firing on Vi is so compelling.

Because Jinx had a mechanical finger in the Arcane Artbook cover

Here’s a quick review of the amazing opening of Arcane season 2:
Vi seems to be struggling with her identity / Loss of identity
Tumblr media
Vi is wearing the tank top that I believe is the one she wears under her enforcer uniform. That’s the outfit she’s wearing throughout the opening.
Tumblr media
Jinx, who was hiding behind, rises and steps into the light—maybe a way of showing that she’s grown symbolically, that she’s now 'bigger.'
Tumblr media
Ekko with his shadow resembling a clock winding back time.
Tumblr media
Caitlyn is shown in her turtleneck (also what she wears under her enforcer outfit ? ), With a curtain to suggest a stage, she takes a deep breath before stepping into the light with a fake smile. Honestly, if I analyze it, we can say without much risk that she's in inner conflict, that she has to step into the spotlight and is showing a different face from how she really feels.
Tumblr media
There’s so much to say about the other scenes, but others will handle that perfectly; I have a special focus on CaitVi (😂). Here they are again in the same outfits—the turtleneck and tank top. It’s an interesting way to present them, and there’s a lot that could be said, which I won’t go into, but I wanted to point it out. Cait and Vi are more vulnerable in these outfits; it’s very intimate, as are all the shots with them in this opening. We’re really in deeply intimate territory.
The looks are very intense, filled with hatred or something else? (my poor babies).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At first, I thought they were kissing, but now I think they’re fighting. They could be kissing or strangling each other in that shot; it’s hard to tell. In both cases, it’s very interesting because this little backlit scene with its colors is very intense. And, as I read elsewhere, very lesbian flag.
Tumblr media
And Caitlyn is still struggling, with her shadow looking like the Evil Queen, I think (lol 😆). And the effect on her hands gives the impression that she has blood on them.
Tumblr media
And I really like this shot because that's my Caitlyn; she has the look of someone who’s realizing, who understands. And maybe she’s coming back to her senses? So, there you have it—just my initial thoughts. I was so awestruck by this new opening that I just had to watch it again and again.

the fact that Singed is more or less responsible for 90% of the problems in Arcane yet never really gets the blame for it absolutely baffles me.
Like you have Caitlyn going full dictator, Ambessa going full warlord, Viktor and Jayce getting divorced and Viktor transcending into Yaoi Jesus and then getting obliterated, Mel getting kidnapped, Jinx becoming a mom and supposedly loosing her child, Heimerdinger Ekko and Jayce playing Escape Room but with the Arcane and meanwhilst Singed, THE MAN WHO CREATED SHIMMER AND TURNED VANDER INTO WARWICK IN THE FIRST PLACE AND ALSO MENTORED VIKTOR JUST OUT THERE CHILLING WITH HIS PETS AND DOING SIDE QUESTS-

Vander makes Vi believe that whatever happened is on her. So Vi suffers and her guilt is so deep and destructive, believing that she turned Jinx into a monster and that what happened to Caitlyn's mother and to Piltover is her fault, she wants to prevent more ppl from getting hurt, and she feels she needs to go after Jinx, and she even believes that the war that will happen to Zaun is her fault.
So she tries to make things right as much as possible in a way that she believes is right. Like Christian Linke said here👇
But unfortunately she will fail for some reason and will become a Pit fighter.

MADDIE IS A TRAITOR?!
Ambessa said to Vi “Your absence provided a vacuum I was able to fill” after we saw Caitlyn and Maddie together 2 episodes ago. Do you think Maddie works for Ambessa so that she can easier manipulate Caitlyn?

I'm going to explain the theory that Jinx is not actually dead
(I know this is long, I promise it's worth it)
This starts in chapter 8 of season two.
We see Jinx in the prision, she's devastated, lost, defeated, and wants things to end. And we see the first interaction she has with the voice of Silco. In this interaction Silco tells Jinx that "killing is a cycle" and that it would continue. But Jinx says she's "done running in circles", meaning: she wants to stop this cycle. To which Silco says:
Tumblr media
And later, when Vi goes to visit Jinx, and Jinx tricks Vi and escapes the prison. Vi then asks her what she will do, Jinx answers:
Tumblr media
And now Jinx knows the way to break the cycle, is by leaving.
Next time we see Jinx is in episode 9. She is still in the same mood as before, and now she cuts most of her hair off and burns The Last Drop
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Burning down The Last Drop and letting go of her hair shows this closure. Later, she tries to kill herself, which is her way of "walking away" to "break the cycle".
But then Ekko shows up, saves her, and they go to save Vi and the others together.
At this point, Jinx wants to stop the killing and wants to leave, but she will always want to save Vi ("I'm always with you. Even when we are worlds apart").
But she still wants to break the cycle. She still needs to let go.
So, as she saves Vi from Warwick with the monkey bomb explosion, she escapes and leaves Piltover.
And we get a hint of that in the final scenes of the show when Caitlyn is going through her mother's database. She finds a blueprint of the hexgate tower and finds secret air ducts in the place where the explosion happened.
Tumblr media
We also see her holding a part of Jinx's bomb.
Tumblr media
And after seeing the blueprint she has this look. Like she's thinking "is it possible she survived?"
Tumblr media
And in the very last scene we see one of these things that is flying away from Piltover.
Tumblr media
Which reminds me of Season 1 Episode 1:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She has always wanted to ride one of them.
Maybe, this is her new way of walking away, instead of dying.
And the two frames are almost exactly the same, it couldn't not be a reference to that s1 moment.
And I know this theory may sound dumb but, why would they show us Caitlyn looking at those blueprints then? Every scene, every frame in Arcane is carefully designed. The team is very good, they wouldn't just show it for no reason. It wouldn't make sense. Especially because they have only 9 episodes of 40 minutes each (except 9 which has 50) to develop everything that happens in season two. And there are A LOT of things going on, they don't have time to spare. If they chose to show us that, it had a very important meaning.
Also I think it's kinda bad If Jinx just dies, I wouldn't like that ending, at least not like this.

reposting my youtube comment onto here bc its literally all i can think about. caitvi may have been affecting each other's lives for far longer than they know (they may have been saving each other for far longer than they've realized too).
I've seen a lot of good theories about where the timeline divergence came from (damn the arcane fandom is so big brained sometimes, good job y'all), but this one consistently rots my brain from the inside out bc my god. i will never get over the underlying tragedy of ep 7. how one small difference could have changed it all.
arcane really is a story of what ifs, each more painful to think about than the last.

You forgive Jinx but not Caitlyn? Here’s why.
Tumblr media
If we start from the idea that Jinx and Caitlyn are very similar and that the show increasingly emphasizes this; if we assume they both have traumas and reasons to be angry and violent; if we consider that their traumas are equally significant—because all trauma is equivalent when experiences differ—a trauma is still a trauma.
So why do we forgive Jinx but not Caitlyn? (Or at least, why do people seem to hate Caitlyn more than Jinx for her actions?) Caitlyn hasn’t done anything comparable to Jinx, who has many deaths on her conscience. Is it because she might have sacrificed a child? No, she wouldn’t have missed the shot—you know it, I know it, and so does she. Blaming her for a shot she didn’t take but would have succeeded at isn’t a valid reason.
Jinx isn’t more murderous, nor is she less so than Caitlyn. She’s not stronger...
Tumblr media
Here’s a little screenshot of Caitlyn getting the upper hand on Sevika. #SeviCait? 😆 Caitlyn is seriously badass—let’s not forget that.
She’s not stronger... or more loyal, fairer, or smarter…—she’s just more unstable.
So yes, that’s why so many people struggle to forgive Caitlyn’s actions compared to Jinx’s; it feels like Caitlyn does things with full awareness. When she strikes Vi, she’s fully present in the moment, taking her time to think before delivering the blow.
Tumblr media
Jinx, on the other hand, hits Vi much harder and more than once. But Caitlyn’s blow hurts more because it comes not just from the heart, but from the head as well.
Do I blame her? No, of course not—she’s my favorite character. And I dare say I love her even more now.
She’ll learn to handle frustration, she’ll keep thinking things through, and she’ll realize she’s being manipulated. She’ll make the right choices, because that’s who she is.

I’m STILL not done with this because the downplaying of Jinx’s actions vs the exaggeration of Caitlyn’s is really bugging me.
Yes, Caitlyn uses the vents to pump the Grey into the undercity. But she does it in TARGETED strikes. That’s what a “strike force” IS. It’s a small group of soldiers who go in quickly and precisely to attack vulnerable spots.
In this case, Caitlyn and her crew literally use the same vents they’re pumping the Grey through to get in and out of their targeted locations. Meaning Caitlyn isn’t “gassing the undercity” at all. At best she’s filling a single building with the grey while they attack and then filtering it out when they leave.
Tumblr media
“Oh but gas dissipates differently in the undercity than in Piltover because piltover is open air and the undercity is close together and tight.”
Cool… that’s definitely a concern. But we never see any negative side effects from these targeted attacks. It’s established multiple times that you can endure the grey for a while, it just makes it harder to breathe. And while there are immediate side effects of it, you won’t develop terminally ill Viktor-like symptoms unless you’re been exposed to it consistently for years.
Everything Caitlyn is doing is to MITIGATE the loss of innocent civilian lives. Heck, they stumble across a guy Jinx has tied upside down on top of a grey exposed vent for god knows how long and the first thing the strike force does is to try and save his life!
Tumblr media
Now compare that to what Jinx does IN THE SAME EPISODE. She sets off a bomb that blasts the entirety of Piltover with the grey. Mixing it with the paint is an even greater act of cruelty because that just makes it harder to wash away and get rid of the toxicity of the grey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at how WIDE SPREAD that attack ended up being! Absolutely NOTHING Caitlyn has been doing has affected the undercity on such a scale!
And this attack affects women, children, and the elderly. We are EXPLICITLY shown this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND we are shown what happens to the kids afterwards. I understand this is Ambessa using this child to plead her case for Martial Law, but that doesn’t change that this kid still suffered greatly because of Jinx’s actions.’
Tumblr media
Now yes, what Caitlyn is doing is still wrong. Nobody is suggesting otherwise. Caitlyn shouldn’t be attacking the undercity at all. But this idea that Caitlyn is somehow akin to a Nazi gassing the poor people is a really disgusting exaggeration of her crimes AND mitigates the ACTUAL terrorist attack by Jinx that DOES hurt innocent civilians.
And a lot of the justification I’ve seen for the hate against Caitlyn using the grey is often speculation based on nothing the show provides us with answers to, or wild assumptions about the physics of this grey’s toxicity.
Oh and one more thing, in relation to Viktor’s illness… just MAYBE consider that one of the reasons his illness spreads more quickly in his body than, say, Sky’s or Vi or Jinx or Vander… is because as a child he spent a lot of his time IN A TOXIC FISSURE CAVE GIVING THE TOXIC PRECURSOR TO SHIMMER TO RIO.
Tumblr media
I dunno, just a thought that MAYBE that contributed to his ultimate health decline? Sky is literally swimming in the dirty waters outside the cave and she is fine… Jinx is baptized by Silco in the same dirty water and she’s fine. Vander and Silco both worked in the mines where the grey was most potent and they’re fine. Silco’s eye is only because of being choked out in the dirty toxic water…
I just think people are being VERY SELECTIVE about how they choose to view the ways the grey affects people.

all the discourse and discussions about vi becoming an enforcer are so interesting to me bc like, yes, she is perpetuating a cycle of violence, but she has literally done that throughout the entire series. thats what makes vi INTERESTING, thats why i love her. not bc shes a perfect angelic saint who does no wrong, but bc she works for her own goals and is her own unique character. her influencing and assisting jayce in attacking silco's shimmer factory was most certainly not "for the good of the undercity", and while i DO NOOOT think she is the selfish vile character that SOME PEOPLE are saying she is bc of this decision, she is definitely not a saint either.
it just intrigues me how so many people are pissed ab it when this was literally the goal of the series the entire time, and honestly, vi never really seemed to care that much about the undercity, she just wanted things to go back to the way they were under vanders rule and be able to be with her sister again. i think it will be an interesting opportunity for character development, and i gen cannot wait to see how she justifies it to herself. i also cant wait for more interactions between her and caitlyn, and to watch them grow closer as they work together :)
anyways! sorry for yapping! just saying my piece lmao
