KING ARTHUR AND HIS SON - CLAN CARRUTHERS CCIS
KING ARTHUR AND HIS SON The story of King Arthur is well known by many. He is considered as a legendary leader of Britain whose exploits were placed in the 5th or 6th century although popular culture, as seen in recent films and adaptations, often portray him as a later medieval knight. King Arthur is a king, or chieftain, who still invokes great interest and speculation in numerous books of…

Open Hearth Gaming Calendar
Capitalites (Session 5 of 5) Donogh runs for Madelancholy and Thomas Manuel Opening night is fast approaching and things are threatening to spiral out of control. Can Camilla hold the production together? Can Salman grow to be a worthy member of the company? Can Ami make a professional breakthrough and keep her relationships?
Free from the Shadow: Samurai Fantasy (Session Zero) Lowell Francis runs for Elle, Mike Minutillo, and Sherri We work through World and Clan creation in the session zero for this adaptation of Free from the Yoke for samurai fantasy play. We learn of the history of the conspiracy and fallen Kami who nearly destroyed the Empire and about our three PC Clans who hope to bring order to the land.
Fate of the Quadrant (Session 3) Alun R. runs for Lowell Francis, Paul Rivers, and Will H Acting First Officer's Personal Log - Stardate 48157.9 - Lieutenant V'Sal Reporting: Captain Prel hasn't explained why we have been diverted from Starbase 310 to Deep Space 9 but we should be dropping out of warp there any time now. What I will say is that the announcement of the change is the first time I've ever seen him show even a glimmer of genuine interest in our mission. Meanwhile, the presence of Princess T'ren & Ambassador Dijenn remains...trying. Mixing Federation and family affairs is rarely straightforward but I had hoped that this would be a logical opportunity for a reconciliation. Still, as I have come to understand in my time in Starfleet, logic has its limits and so, it appears, do my parents. Then...shore leave on DS9, a prototype installed and through the wormhole, before an unfamiliar foe must be confronted and tunnels beneath the ruins of New Bajor explored...
Eotenweard: Northumbria (Session 1) Alun R. runs for José Feito, Paul Rivers, Sabine V., and Will H We meet Black Jell, the Loon, with a single wandering eye who was brought to the others by a vision of blood; Solinus, the Rogue, who sees his Gift as evidence that he may matter to God; Cadog of the Order of St Adrian, the Sword of God who was told those he met at a cross-roads were worthy; and Fynn, a Skinchanger who recognized the others having previously dreamed of them. Together they have been drawn to the once thriving settlement of Thrydingas beside a river now clogged by rotting fish, something Cadog's Order says is 'demon-sign'. The villagers mark their huts with protective wards but they clearly desire the opportunity to return to fishing, while their naive Lord prefers to listen to stories... There's more rotting fish, projectile vomiting, and a slave girl's fear...and then...a lurking threat in a sinister fen...
Star Wars Saturday
OSR 5 in 1 - Spacers Rich Rogers runs for Anders, Keith Stetson, and Steven Watkins We end the series with a favorite Star Wars trope - a prison break!
MCU Sunday
Demigods (Session 1) Rich Rogers runs for Alex, Cody Eastlick, and Steven Watkins The new Warriors Three fight the Followers of Set from Egypt-World and have a drink with Adam Mann before learning his truth!
Off-Calendar Highlights
Hearts of Camelot: Once and Forever (Session 3) Madelancholy runs for Chris Greenbriar, David Miessler-Kubanek, and Rod Santos Exploring the manor finds our heroes in varying levels of trouble: Sir Granit is stuck in a wall, Sir Elio talks to a parrot, and Ydelles gets a hint of their host's intentions.
Heroes of the Hearth: Fresh Faces (Session 1 of 2) Madelancholy runs for Paul D. and Rob Fletcher "Today we do not sing of adventurers, but the people behind the adventurers...we sing of how they themselves deal with the threat that holds their lands in thrall..." Supposedly this story game can be done in 2-3 hours...the first time we played this, it was a time crunch in 4 hours. This time, we breathe life into different characters and make this two-shot of village life with a world threat looming - check out Part 1!

Because whether or not it happens in reality isn't the trope or why it's bad. Nor is the trope just "bad stuff happened to some character that was important to the main character at some time in the past."
The trope is that there is a trend* of specifically women characters being given lazy development and then killed, raped, or otherwise graphically violated in horribly violent and traumatizing ways specifically and only to further the development of men characters. And that it happened repeatedly, often, and with such gleeful abandon at the violating of the women characters that people had to start wondering whether the writers were getting off on vicariously hurting women.
If it had been one or two one-off stories, the trope wouldn't exist, nor the pushback to it. Kyle Raynor's girlfriend being violently murdered, dismembered, and then put in his refrigerator so that he could shockingly discover her mangled corpse later isn't the only example, it's just the trope namer. But that example being as shocking as it is is why this trope gets the pushback it does. Because at some point, you've stopped writing a story and started writing gore. And while I'll be the first to say fiction is not reality, I have also said in past posts that there is a point where you start to look at the writers and ask "Why do you like writing graphic violence against women over and over and over and over?" **
If it weren't a trend, it would just be another writing device. The fact that it is a trend ***, or at least has been in the past, is the problem with it.
* "But X-And-So wrote someone getting killed off in The Great American Novel once and it wasn't bad" doesn't answer a trend. That's just one dude. "Women In Refrigerators" is a reflection on how society's view of women is borne out in art, and can't be laid at the feet of only X-And-So to fix in a single work.) ** Sometimes the writer is Junji Ito and he turns out to be just an unremarkable dude who has some wild imaginations. But sometimes it's Neil Gaiman. *** One of the good examples of a truly execrable data point on that page is "This trope is Older Than Print. In the Vitae Sanctorum Britanniae, or "Lives of the Saints of Britain", which predates the 9th century, warfare breaks out when a lovely maiden is kidnapped by King Maelgwn's soldiers. St. Cadog approaches the king and convinces him to repent and recall his army, but never asks for the maiden back, despite her father being an official in Cadog's church. She is never mentioned again." This is not anything that happened to a loved one because obviously she is not loved. She exists merely to be kidnapped as an excuse for the war to start, but no one cares about her.
hot take fridging is a perfectly valid storytelling device. even if the fridged character is a woman. even if the character she was fridged to motivate is a man. carry on.

I just wanted you all to know that when Henry Tudor was just a year old a Welsh poet, Dafydd Nanmor, wrote a poem invoking all—I mean, all—of the Welsh saints to protect him, plus additional, non-Welsh ones. These are the saints he asks to protect the child (in order of appearance):
St Benedict and St Bernard, St Dyrnog, St Brothen and St Sulien and St Silin, St Buan, St Celynnin, St Beuno of Clynnog, St Cynin and his servants, St Cynan, St Asaph, St Cawrdaf, kinsman of Eudaf son of Caradog, St Collen, St Elian, St Cynwyd, Cynfelyn, St Cedwyn and St Cadog, St Cadfan and St Dyfnan, St Ust and St Dyfnig, St Caron and St Curig, St Patrick, St Pedrog, St Peris, St Cristiolus, St Dennis, St Dwynwen, St Peter, St John, St Gwynnen, St Padarn, St Gwynnog, St Fagan, bishop St Afan, Ifor, St Gregory, St George, St Môr and St Mwrog, St Clare, St Ilar, St Cynddylig, St Dominic, St Peblig, St Meilig, St Maelog,
—(I’m not done)—
St Dochwyn and St Tecwyn, and St Tygwy, St Dochdwy, St Winifred and St Tyfrïog, St Derfel and St Dwyfel and St Gredifel, St Dogmael, St Daniel and St Dwynog, St Deiniol and St Seiriol and St Saeran, Dardanus, St Stephen, St Cynan, St Cynog, St Deiniolen, Llawdden, St Cathen, St Ceitho, St David of Mynyw, St Dyfaenog, St Tybïe, St Einion and St Non, St Tegla, St Agatha, St Anna, St Enoch, St Tanwg and St Trinio, St James, St Egwad, St Tysilio, St Lleuddad, St Tysul, St Llawddog, St Lawrence, St Mark and St Richard, St Luke, St Lambert, St Edward and St Tyfrydog, and St Tydecho, St Teilo and St Telyddog.
Nanmor also asks Mary, Gabriel, Sariel, Thomas, Uriel, Michael and Rhiniel to “allow Henry to grow old for a long time”. This is the same poet that prophesised that Henry Tudor would be king but died before he could see it happen.
#when you remember the welsh age of saints was a thing#henry vii#dailytudors#artist: dafydd nanmor#poor nanmor he just liked this child so much

Candice and Darren the Cadog from the paradise planet Tropical Springs gets the upper hand....or the bigger belly after secretly eating a bowl full of pasta at The Annual Pleasure Paradise Sumo Wrestling Match. They finally defeat their nemesis Randell the Weasel Furrie by belly bouncing him a couple of times then slam him several yards away with their gigantic butt. Triumphant Candice and Darren are champions of The Annual Pleasure Paradise Sumo Wrestling Match along with a few other participating contestants, and are then hailed as heroes. Their reward is The Belly N Butt Trophy, a Cat and Dog Wand to cast spells on their enemies in the event of a battle as well as a lifetime supply of animal-shaped pasta with spicy tomato sauce. Pleased at their moment of victory Candice and Darren very happily say farewell to their Animal Furrie friends as they are about to recite a spell to teleport them back to their native home planet. Jodie the Heavenly Whippet tells the Cat and Dog hybrid Fuzzie that are always welcome here in Pleasure Paradise and that if they would like to come to Pig Island for a long visit then they use The Cat and Dog Wands to concoct a Teleportation Spell. Candice and Darren agree and cast a Teleportation Spell back to the planet Tropical Springs🐶🐱🐈🐕🌴

a close reading of The Mask Falling “score”
So @sshannonauthor made a Spotify-style “score” for The Mask Falling and I am SO on board! Bringing out my inner English major to analyze the shit out of this and embarrass myself looking for clues!! (dw I didn’t go that hard, kept it brief but there is some cool shit in here!!)
Calais - this is the city in France where Paige and Warden are staying, I believe. prolly just getting acclimated and being adorable and domestic!
Don’t Come In - potentially alluding to Paige’s PTSD from being tortured & the emotional turmoil involved in her recovery - kind of like The Dawn Chorus
Arcturus - Paige switches to calling Warden Arcturus??? Perhaps chatting it up and Paige asking him about himself, also maybe her b-day? (pls)
Paris - Woohoo Paris! Paige probs exploring the city
Gallery of the Drowned - Hmm! Google search yields nothing, probs some place/discovery they find in Paris. Potentially a reference to Paige’s aquaphobia from being waterboarded.
Domino - Oohooo Domino Programme! Perhaps we meet people involved with them!
The Art of Possession - Paige dreamwalking, maybe spying by possessing people!
Cadoc -
“Saint Cadoc or Cadog was a 5th–6th-century Abbot of Llancarfan, near Cowbridge in Glamorganshire, Wales, a monastery famous from the era of the British church as a centre of learning” - wikipedia
Wales, you say? Pretty sure the entire book takes place in Paris, so perhaps something to do with the story of Saint Cadoc? Just skimmed the Wikipedia page and didn’t see much of relevance, perhaps it’s a stained glass window? Or maybe something important happened in Wales…
Moth in the Walls - Paige is the Black Moth, so maybe this is a reference to her going down into the catacombs?
Kornephoros (The Truth) -
The brightest star of the Hercules constellation
Greek word means “club bearer” http://stars.astro.illinois.edu/sow/kornephoros.html
Not seeing any association with “truth,” so either Samantha Shannon found an etymological link that I haven’t seen (she is an absolute wizard with etymology) or she’s adding that meaning or it’s just an addition? Idk this is over my head but very cool
The Escape - probs escaping from some threatening scenario? From the catacombs perhaps?
Ivy’s Message - ooh, this is one of the most clear references to plot. Methinks it has something to do with the Rag and Bone Man, given her history with him and the rumors that he’ll make an appearance in this book.
The Box - idk bro! Is it the box that warden gives Paige for her birthday?
A New Oath - hmm. Pretty clueless on this one, one possible nugget is that it could be a reference to Paige’s initial branding of loyalty to the Rephaim? Perhaps Warden and Paige discussing their relationship and reestablishing their attachment to one another on more equal terms? (I’m clearly desperate for Paige and Warden content)
Apollyon -
“The Hebrew term "Abaddon", and its Greek equivalent "Apollyon" appear in the Bible as both a place of destruction and an archangel of the abyss. In the Hebrew Bible, abaddon is used with reference to a bottomless pit, often appearing alongside the place שְׁאוֹל, meaning the realm of the dead.” - wikipedia
shiiit... maybe realm of the dead as in spirits?
Le Basilic - apparently this is a restaurant in Paris? Lol not sure if that’s the reference, would be down for Paige and Warden to just go out to dinner
The King of Versailles - maybe this is referring to the the Paris version of the underlord of the London syndicate. Although “King” is a term voyants typically avoid, given the associations with the Bloody King - Paige warns Hector about acting like a king in TMO bc you know what Scion does to kings….
Flood - yikes! Hope there’s not an actual flood because that will not bode will with Paige’s aquaphobia. Maybe it’s her getting triggered by something that brings up memories of her imprisonment
A Memory of Water - again, probably Paige’s PTSD from being waterboarded. Sounds like she’s having a rough go of it!
The Will to Live - Damn. Only thing I can think of is Warden giving Paige a pep talk? I’m on board!
Overture (Love Theme) - 👀 (I mean maybe he just gave her a pep talk and they’re feeling frisky!)
Hall of Jewels - maybe the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris? Samantha Shannon has mentioned it several times… this sounds like a nice part of the book!
The Mask Rises - damn… so if the “mask” in this metaphor is Scion’s facade about clairvoyance that excludes the Rephaim, then this seems to refer to Scion doubling down, extending their control, etc., whereas later in the book the mask will “fall” and Scion will have to change their public face due to the Rephaim possibly making themselves known…
Waltz of the Anchor - Shit is probably going down! Anchor obviously refers to Scion, so “waltz of the anchor” is the dance the government is doing to obscure the reality of their rule.
The Devil - oh shit, not this again! The Song Rising suggested that The Devil in Paige’s card-reading refers to the darkness within her that she has to resist. If this still holds, maybe she is confronted with her darker impulses again? I don’t see her turning evil though. Maybe The Devil is not referring to what we thought it was? Maybe someone betrays her?
Retribution - Uh-oh…. This is the end of the book, so shit is definitely going down! Probably lots of plot twists and moves and countermoves with Scion and the Rephaim. I get the vibe Paige has a big victory towards the end and then it all goes south real quick…
And I Breathed In - Damn. Sounds super apocalyptic. Been thinking about the ending and what apocalyptic shit might go down. This makes me imagine Paige being very nearly destroyed and then regaining consciousness. Could be that her spirit is trapped, or she’s physically captured, brought to the netherworld?? Or maybe I’m completely off base and it’s just an unrelated apocalyptic moment. Aghhhhhh I’m so worried!!
#the mask falling#the bone season#Samantha shannon#close reading#im flipping my shit#literally cannot wait#score#warden and Paige

Aaron are you avocadno or avocadpro?
I received this message while I was literally mid-bite of avocado on toast, so I’m avocadpro, babay. Also, this is now the only way I’m asking anyone this question, ever.
Although, we don’t mention av*cados on this blog because of av*cadogate...

for the fanfiction thing you reblogged a long time ago 17 for cordalia and Peltina
17. “Just hold me.”
Caldera was very quiet at night. It was devoid of the usual sounds that populated the earliest hours of the morning--insects and birds, stray pets rustling through the shrubbery. Even the wind was silent.
In Nirli Pryss’s room, all was quiet except for the intermittent beeping of the medical machinery and the quiet breathing of the three occupants. Of the three, one of them, a half-goliath woman named Audio Cadog, was fast asleep. Of the other two, neither of them were though one was pretending to be.
“Are you still awake, Petaline?” breathed Nirli “Cordelia” Pryss, startling Petaline’s eyes open.
“Yes,” the halfling girl admitted. “Is something wrong?” She squinted at her friend through the darkness. Cordelia had seemed to be stable enough to rest until morning when they’d laid down for the night earlier, but that hadn’t stopped Petaline from worrying. She was all too aware of how quickly things could take a turn for the worse without any warning.
“N-no,” Cordelia said. “I feel fine. I just can’t sleep.”
“Me neither,” Petaline said softly. “I have too much on my mind.”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Cordelia said. “You probably have enough on your mind without needing to worry about me.”
“N-no, it’s okay!” Petaline said hurriedly. “It’s not your fault!”
“Still.”
“It’s alright,” Petaline said. “But if there’s anything I could do for you...I would feel better if I could help.”
There was a moment of silence as Cordelia considered this. “Well…”
“Yes?”
“Just hold me,” she said softly. “Could you do that?”
“I could do that,” Petaline said, her heart fluttering. She crept out of her sleeping bag and rose to her feet. As quietly at she could, she hauled herself up onto Cordelia’s bed where the human girl was lying, her form small and delicate beneath the pile of blankets her sister had placed on top of her.
She scooched over on the bed to give Petaline room, and the princess lay down beside her, a few scant inches between them. Cordelia turned on her side, facing away from Petaline who slung her arm over the human girl’s waist and rested her chin on her shoulder, closing her eyes. Cordelia was unbearably fragile in her arms, but she was reassuringly warm, and Petaline focussed on the thrum of her heartbeat, pulsing in her chest, an all too welcome reminder that she was alive.
“Thank you,” Petaline breathed. Her voice was all but inaudible, but Cordelia seemed to hear her because she sighed gently.
Sleep came much easier now, and for a while, she was able to forget her worries.

My first love, O, How he needed so
To show me the Bavarian Nipple Kiss.
Only fifteen to his twenty, obscene
Still, he showed me the Bavarian Nipple Kiss.
His eyes of blue persuaded me to
As he showed me the Bavarian Nipple Kiss.
Green silk and lace covered my face
As he showed me the Bavarian Nipple Kiss.
Areola swole; his tongue did roll
As he showed me the Bavarian Nipple Kiss.
Oh Steve, I cried, grinding on his thigh
As he showed me the Bavarian Nipple Kiss.
His rough hands, such sin, kneeding my soft white skin
As he showed me the Bavarian Nipple Kiss.
Saint Cadog's Shame, Mr. Thomas is to blame,
For he showed me the Bavarian Nipple Kiss.
