Hennessey’s top 10 cars of all-time, celebrating 30 years of high-performance vehicle builds
It was back in 1991 that John Hennessey got married and modified his daily driver, a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 so he could enter the Nevada Open Road Challenge (finished fourth) and the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, and make speed runs on the Bonneville Salt Flats (setting a class record 177 mph) and the Silver State Challenge (overall winner, again averaging 177 for the 90-mile distance).
Even with all that, Hennessey and his newlywed, Hope, found time that year to start a new business (he had been in the environmental remediation business), and 30 years later, Hennessey Performance of Sealy, Texas, has produced more than 10,000 high-performance vehicles for customers.
As part of its 30th anniversary celebration, Hennessey Performance shared its “top 10 cars of all time:”
1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, entered Pikes Peak, two open-road races in Nevada and set class record at Bonneville
“Fly Navy” Venom 1000 Twin Turbo, based on 2005 Dodge Viper, won Road & Track supercar shootout that included a Bugatti Veyron.

“At the end of 1991, looking back at that year of motorsport, I realized I’d learned the first rule of auto racing – if you want to make a small fortune in racing, start with a larger one!” Hennessey said in his company’s anniversary news release.
“To continue my passion, I knew I’d have to find a way to pay for it. So, I thought, if Carroll Shelby and Alois Ruf could make a living by building and modifying cars then maybe I could, too – that’s how our company began.”
In the beginning, working out of a rented garage with one other employee, Hennessey modified turbochargers and intake and exhaust systems for the 3000 GT, its cousin, the Dodge Stealth, and the Toyota Supra and Mazda RX-7.
Two years later, he created the 500-horsepower Dodge Viper Venom 550 for a customer and also produced an aftermarket hardtop for Dodge’s exotic V10-powered roadster. Hennessey helped found the Viper Club of America, and his shop rolled out the Venom 600, and then the 650, which in 1997 posted a top speed of 203 mph.
By the turn of the century, the Venom 800 and 1000 models were ready, the shop staff grew to 5 employees, and the Hennesseys had 5 children, at which point John Hennessey retired from racing.
But while he left racing, he didn’t leave race tracks and in 2004 bought the Lonestar Motorsports complex, a drag strip with return roads that he turned into a test track with a 30,000-square-foot production facility (staffed in 2021 by 50 employees and by students at the Hennessey Tuner School). 
A Venom 800 won a 16-car supercar challenge staged by Car and Driver magazine, a Hennessey-tweaked Ford GT hit 234 mph, and in 2009 development was under way on the purpose-built Hennessey Venom GT, which a Chevrolet LS9 V8 would propel to more than 270 mph.
In 2012, Hennessey headlines continued with the Texas Toll Road SH130 being christened with the Hennessey Cadillac VR1200 hitting 221 mph and the Hennessey Camaro ZL1 running 204.
At The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in 2018, Hennessey unveiled his own 1,600-horsepower F5 engine, which was designed for a new Venom supercar scheduled to launch during 2021.

  2019 Audi S6 Review – The current S6 is one of the fastest four-door sedans on the market, with one of the most discreet aspects that makes it very impressive to watch. Unfortunately, however, the current model is going out of style, but that was to be expected since the A6 has been around for a while. Fortunately, the car will be replaced in the near future by a new vehicle. With the new model, they will also launch the Audi S6 2019, a new high-performance sedan that could easily become the fastest car in its class.
The S6 also offers better performance and fuel economy through a lighter platform, improved materials and new or revised engines. The new A6 should start in the first half of 2018, but the S6 should not be far behind.
The S6 will have the same style tracks, but as usual, will have a more aggressive exterior and a more powerful powertrain.

The new grill has three horizontal bars at the top, three more in the center with the bottom of plastic and one below. While the main grille does not have the honeycomb mesh seen on the RS models, the side vents on the bumper have a similar design.
The headlights are also based on the A8. Not only are they thinner, they also have a more angular design. Together with the new grille, they give the car a more sporty and wider look. The rounding of the new S6 is the element in the form of a separator in the lower part of the bumper and a more muscular engine bonnet.
The rear is also completely camouflaged and equipped with prototype taillights, but I’m sure I can see a thin bar of light that runs just above the location of the license. This means that the taillights will mimic those of the A8, in the same way that the new E-class takes much of the larger S-class. Two characteristics seem to distinguish the S6 from the standard model: a small spoiler on the boot lid and the bottom

The 2019 Audi S6 will present a much smaller cabin. This will allow Audi to concentrate on providing the best experience without having to give the driver the impression that there is no place for it.
Expect a standard digital driver screen, a massive panoramic infotainment system and all the best Audi materials. The S6, being the performance model, will probably receive carbon fiber inserts, Alcantara in the seat reinforcements and the possibility of an Alcantara upholstery.
A large screen should replace the board and provide data on speed, rpm, fuel economy and much more. The screen should have a custom start screen and some unique features compared to the A6 standard, but we will learn more about this when the sedan is released. Although performance cars are usually equipped with sports steering wheels, the S6 will probably not be equipped with a flat bottom unit. Instead, the steering wheel should be identical to the A6 backrest for some additional buttons, and an “S6” badge on the lower radius. However, Audi will probably offer an optional RS-style flat bottom wheel.
Leather should be standard on the S6, but customers will also have the opportunity to obtain Alcantara inserts. The carbon fiber edge can also be offered in addition to the usual aluminum, but you will have to pay extra for the lightweight material. As usual, the standard upholstery will be black, but if you prefer a sharper contrast, you can find some bright colors, such as white and red, in the list of options. Contrasting stitching, red “S6” badge and very bright surfaces must complete the design.
2019 Audi S6 Engine
The current S6 is a powerful sedan thanks to its turbocharged 4.0-liter V6 engine, with 450 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, but production is expected to increase significantly for the new model. On the other hand, Audi has recently trimmed some engines, and we have seen the V-8 replaced by a smaller twin-turbo V-6 of 2.9 liters. A similar motor has been introduced for the new RS5. In the coupe, the V-6 presents 450 horsepower and 442 foot-pounds. A similar start would not be a major improvement in the S6, but the lighter bases and improved aerodynamics should bring significant improvements in the performance department. However, I think Audi will push the V6 a little further, probably around 470 hp and 460 lb-ft.
With these numbers, the improved automatic transmission and all the improvements mentioned above, the sprint from 0 to 60 mph should go from 4.4 seconds to 4.2 or 4.1 more attractive tics. On the other hand, the maximum speed will remain blocked at 155 mph. The S Tronic automatic transmission must be new, while the standard Quattro all-wheel-drive system must be delivered in a revised version compared to the outgoing model. Software changes and new electronic components will make the new S6 more responsive and agile.
2019 Audi S6 price and Release
Like most new generation vehicles, the next S6 should be a little more expensive than the outgoing model. With the A6 base prices likely to increase from $ 47,600 to almost $ 50,000, the S6 should be around $ 72,000 or $ 73,000 before the options. The current sedan starts at $ 70,900 in the United States.

So you know you want a muscle car and you want to go fast, too. What are the fastest muscle cars on the market?
There’s more than one reason to buy a muscle car, and they’re not all about speed.
There’s have all-American good looks and oodles of torquiness.  A throaty roar down the stretch and the chance to own a piece of classic American auto history.
First, some parameters. Are we talking 0-60, or flat out top speed? For our purposes here, we’ve combined the two.
So here they are in reverse order, the five fastest muscle cars for those who want to go fast. Take your pick.
Cadillac CTS-V
Cadillac calls it the most powerful Cadillac ever built. With a claimed top speed of 200 mph, and the 640 hp supercharged V8 engine pushing 630 pounds of torque, who’s to argue?
Possibly, it may be those who see Cadillac’s fabled luxury as no place for a muscle car. Except this one’s built to go and that changes everything. We’d have placed it higher up the list, but a sluggish 3.7-second 0-60 performance didn’t do it any favors.
2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Powered by a supercharged 6.2 liter V8 650 hp with an official 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds, the ZL1 is designed to excel.
At Germany’s 7.6-mile oval Papenburg track it broke the 200 mph barrier. It was clocked at a startling 202.3 mph and staked a claim to the title of world’s fastest muscle car. Marking 193.3 mph on the return, the result was an official top speed average of 198 mph.
Equus Bass 770
Equus retains the muscled motoring of American classics and couples it with the modern era’s refined technology with notes of ultra-cool luxuriousness.
The result is 6.2 liters of a supercharged engine that waves sixty goodbye in a mere 3.4 seconds. Breaking out at a top speed of 200 mph, so says Equus, the 770 lights up the roadway like a pack of quality H4 bulbs.
2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye
The Redeye is right there with the quickest street cars on the market.
If your thirst for speed isn’t quenched by the Hellcat’s zip to sixty in 3.4 seconds, the quarter-mile at 11.4, or flat out speeds that have seen 203 mph in the rear-view, you’re dryer than Dodge knows what to do with.

Except maybe for the Hellcat Charger. Is this the fastest American muscle car ever made?
In 2015, Dodge named it the fastest family sedan on the planet. Hellcat doesn’t sound like it was named with the kids in mind and at 206 miles an hour with the wind behind, it doesn’t behave like it.
Using back to back runs, Dodge marked the official average at 204.55 mph and pointed out that their tested model were no different from what you’d buy in the store. Except for the tires.
The Fastest Muscle Cars of All Time
So there they are, the five fastest muscle cars, all built with speed in mind.
And whether you’re talking about how quickly they hit sixty, knock out the quarter-mile mark, or their rubber-burning, throat-spurting, road-blazing flat out speeds down the tarmac, it makes almost no difference. Each one is ridiculously quick.
Which one is the fastest? Who really knows. It’s the never-ending debate in bars, clubs, and magazine reviews across America. Long may it continue.

If your thirst for speed isn’t quenched by the Hellcat’s zip to sixty in 3.4 seconds, the quarter-mile at 11.4, or flat out speeds that have seen 203 mph in the rear-view, you’re dryer than Dodge knows what to do with.

In 2015, Dodge named it the fastest family sedan on the planet. Hellcat doesn’t sound like it was named with the kids in mind and at 206 miles an hour with the wind behind, it doesn’t behave like it.
Using back to back runs, Dodge marked the official average at 204.55 mph and pointed out that their tested model were no different from what you’d buy in the store. Except for the tires.
The Fastest Muscle Cars of All Time
So there they are, the five fastest muscle cars, all built with speed in mind.
And whether you’re talking about how quickly they hit sixty, knock out the quarter-mile mark, or their rubber-burning, throat-spurting, road-blazing flat out speeds down the tarmac, it makes almost no difference. Each one is ridiculously quick.
Which one is the fastest? Who really knows. It’s the never-ending debate in bars, clubs, and magazine reviews across America. Long may it continue.

2019 Cadillac CT6-V Review: The 550-HP Blackwing V-8 Has Arrived
Remember the Cadillac CTS-V? The supercharged, Corvette Z06–engined burnout monster that Cadillac set loose on the world a few years back? The 2019 Cadillac CT6-V is not that car.
First Cadillac V-8 Since The Northstar
Let’s start with the powerplant. The twin-turbo V-8 in the CT6-V is no crate engine, no parts bin special. It’s a clean-sheet build exclusive to Cadillac, and Steve Felix, program manager for the Blackwing engine, tells us it doesn’t share parts with any other General Motors engine beyond non-mechanical bits like the crank position sensor. The newcomer is a 4.2-liter unit—down two liters on the supercharged lump in the CTS-V—but what it lacks in displacement it makes up for in forced induction. Two identical turbochargers (hence twin-turbo, not bi-turbo) lie in a valley between the two cylinder banks, and they cram up to 20 psi of boost into the all-new V-8. Compared to a traditional outboard turbo setup, the “hot vee” configuration makes for more compact dimensions and less lag because the exhaust gases don’t have to travel as far to spool the turbos.
It’s called the Blackwing, after the ornate trios of black, legless birds that adorn the original Cadillac crest from 1906. Not the most powerful namesake to call upon, but the name itself is rad. (Not to mention it’s way more creative than some alphanumeric character jumble like CT6.) The Blackwing isn’t the first hot-vee V-8 from a luxury manufacturer—Mercedes and BMW use them in performance versions of their bigger sedans—but it’s exciting to see new-school engine tech from a parent company that still swears by the pushrod.

Here are the numbers for the CT6-V: 550 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. Compared to the previous top engine in the CT6, a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6, the Blackwing is up 146 horses and 227 lb-ft of twist. Plus, that engine has been dropped from future CT6s; the only non-Blackwing option moving forward is the non-turbo 335-hp V-6 that powers the XT6 SUV and a myriad of other GM products.
The Blackwing’s output is just shy of that of the 603-hp V-8 in the Mercedes-AMG S63, but keep in mind that this Caddy doesn’t start at $150K like the big Benz. It helps the CT6-V charge from 0 to 60 mph in an estimated 3.8 seconds—1.2 seconds quicker than the last turbo V-6–powered model we tested. Each Blackwing is hand-built by one of six Blackwing engine experts, and the passenger-side intercooler wears a badge etched with the builder’s signature. Ours was built by a talented engine builder named Kathy. Thank you, Kathy.
Drive Time
Because the CT6 is a larger, all-wheel-drive machine, the CT6-V drives like a different beast than the rear-drive CTS-V. On the road, the driving character of the Blackwing Caddy is less ostentatious and less shouty, more retired Super Bowl–winning lineman who can still squat 500 pounds and lift a woman from her overturned car with one arm. (Lookin’ at you, Vince Wilfork.) No burnouts, no tail-happy cornering, just a friendly, relaxed four-door that’s massively capable when called upon. As a full-size luxury car, the CT6 is packed with tons of sound insulation and clever tech like the noise-cancelling wizardry we see in the best over-ear headphones, with the goal of transporting its occupants in total isolation. And when you’re just cruising along at low rpm, the CT6-V is just that: isolated. Save the bronze-woven carbon-fiber trim inside, it can be easy to forget that you bought the one with the stonking new V-8—until you flex your right ankle.
Oh, the torque. It’s ever-present. Cadillac tells us that at just 2,000 rpm, just above cruising speed, the Blackwing is producing 90 percent (564 lb-ft!) of its peak torque output. That means you’re never more than a couple inches of throttle pedal away from the smile-inducing, speed-gathering, face-pulling capabilities of this new powerplant. Despite two turbos muffling the exhaust, under full throttle the Blackwing absolutely delivers on the V-8 shout we know and love. Yes, some of the sound is amplified through the CT6-V’s 34-speaker Bose Panaray audio system, but no, that’s not a bad thing.
There seems to be just a hint of lag before the Blackwing delivers full boost, but once the turbos spool, this engine is a beast. Active rear steering combined with the 2020 CT6-V’s relatively low weight make for a car that drives smaller than it is, and we never felt like there were another 8 feet of sedan behind us. The seats are comfortable, but they sit high and are not as laterally supportive as we’d like, plus they’re no different from the thrones in other CT6s. Standard Brembo brakes are strong and capable, if a little overboosted. Modulation is easy at high and low speeds.
Summer tires are your only option on this hi-po version of the CT6. It was difficult to approach the car’s cornering limits on public roads, and when we did, it defaulted to understeer. That might be a problem solvable with Track mode and its 5/95 front/rear torque split, but I wasn’t ready to find out in someone else’s car on a tight country road. We didn’t have the opportunity to drive the CT6-V on track, but we assure you, there was more than enough grunt to get us in trouble on the tightly monitored roads of Virginia. It’s no coincidence that our drive loop crossed the border into Maryland.
The Blackwing is paired with a 10-speed automatic that GM co-developed with Ford a few years back. Cadillac won’t advertise this, but it’s a version of the same transmission that swaps gears in the Ford Raptor pickup. It works well here; gear changes make little interruption in the Blackwing’s unrelenting thrust, and the shift programming is intuitive enough in sportier drive modes that buyers will rarely find themselves reaching for the tall magnesium shift paddles behind the steering wheel. Even on 20-inch wheels this car rides fabulously, largely thanks to the implementation of MagneRide adaptive suspension. In a straight line or midcorner, road imperfections are handled with aplomb, and the CT6 is quick to settle after an initial body movement. I’d call it floaty, but that would be a disservice to this car’s ride quality. It’s comfortable, composed, and fitting for a luxury performance car.
The Platinum Problem
I have few complaints about the CT6-V. I love the way it gathers speed, the way it sounds, the way it rides on rough pavement. The steering is light but accurate. That 34-speaker audio system sounds excellent. I won’t even diss this latest version of the CUE infotainment system we’ve complained about in the past—the new one is genuinely usable. To me, the only glaring issue with the CT6-V is another car in Cadillac’s portfolio. Not the CTS-V—it’s the CT6 Platinum.
Moving forward, the top luxury trim of the CT6 replaces that 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 we mentioned earlier with a detuned version of the Blackwing, making “only” 500 hp and 574 lb-ft of torque due to a more restrictive single-mode exhaust. Sure, there are features on the V you can’t get on the Platinum: unique suspension tuning, a touch more sound, summer tires, a little carbon spoiler, and of course more power. But having driven the two back to back, I can tell you the driving experiences are near indistinguishable. At least on the road, the Platinum goes, stops, and handles just as well as the V.
Spending a few extra grand for the Platinum, you get the same engine and MagneRide suspension you get in the V, plus Cadillac’s excellent Super Cruise hands-free driving capability and extra luxury features such as massaging seats. The CT6-V just doesn’t do enough to differentiate itself from its more luxurious, more convenient, slightly less powerful sibling. Had the V been blessed with aggressively bolstered seats, unique body work with flared wheel arches and a vented hood, or a more noticeable power increase, things might be different. The Blackwing is an absolute winner, and I hope it finds itself under the hood of many future Cadillacs, but as far as the CT6 is concerned, I’m going Platinum.
