Do not follow this blog if you are sensitive to the sensitive topics related to this particular genre. I tag with "content word cw" for the extra wild stuff, but that's about it. adam literally has the highest swear/slur count in the show and he's only in 3 episodes, so be aware of that.

I tend to be private/selective as i get fairly overwhelmed with too much activity. i really get into plots though, and i'll spam the dash with some silly original dick chauvinism from time to time when ive fed my inner gremlins past midnight. That said, I do get easily overwhelmed when I'm following too many people and multi muse blogs in particular can exacerbate this feeling, so if I do not follow back - I might just not be in a good place to atm or I just don't see possible interactions btw our characters. It's nothing personal! ^^

This is a mutuals only interaction blog for my sanity (anons being fine). if i can see plots happening between us, i'll likely follow. but i get overwhelmed easily so please don't take it personally if i don't follow back or follow back right away.

I am not exclusive, but I prioritize my plotted threads and may have some mains/activity based off that as far as my main verse goes. But I will never be fully exclusive and i enjoy exploring different character dynamics. Also multiship is fine, but I am not exclusively here to ship or write suggestive content. My muses have always and will always require plotting and scene chemistry for me to consider writing ship material. In the case I do reblog shippy prompts still feel free to send in ofc! I'll see if I can make it work or not.

If I don't get a follow back within a week or two, if blogs i follow go inactive for up to 6-7 weeks, or if there's just no attempt on either of our ends to connect for an indefinite amount of time - i'll occasionally go through my list and soft block to clean things up. if we ever want to give it a go in the future, the option is there for us to re-follow and resume! i have in the past been made to feel like I'm walking on egg shells in rpcs regarding these matters and id rather avoid it here...im just here to chill, write and leave weird surprises in dms.

I don't like the feeling of being 'collected' so...if you are interacting with multiple of my muses, I ask you have a different dynamic for mine than them. This is just an act of courtesy I also extend to my rp partners. I interact more with folks that have a special relationship with my muse, so it's needed to deep dive into more interesting topics for me. I also do not usually interact w/ other of the same muse cuz I feel like I 'absorb' how others play him and I want to keep my version separated from that. I might give it a shot some times though depending on how it's presented.

I know that Adam is a bad guy. He's insufferable and can push buttons- but I am not him and I dislike constantly feeling like I'm being barraged for his actions, especially since I consider him to be a heavily layered character that should not be shoe horned into a standard 'ok irredeemable and never allowed nice things' box. So- if you honestly hate this character please don't interact. I am here for exploring taboo topics and ways that a flawed character can make others think he's justified, betray them, make people feel COMPLICATED things... I also love torturing my muse and taking the piss out of him, so I don't need people moving in and tying to constantly put him down/ruin his current plots by being god modey or not at least asking me how we should proceed in a power dynamic, or relationships cuz you don't ship what I ship, or find my interactions with other characters 'toxic' and 'not allowed'...let me explore and enjoy what I like on my blog within reason and do talk with me on dms if you don't like how things are going with our muses and you wanna explore other routes. I love to plot and I am very reasonable.

But yeah, in-series they are all in music groups. The zombie boys are all working hard to reverse the world’s brainwashing through edm music and turning other people into zombies like them. It’s a pretty fun concept

You're getting blocked immediately because there's no point in arguing with a clown, but I Do want to take this opportunity to point out that the people who hate the term queer often hate it most of all for its inclusivity and discretion.

Tove had several long term relationships with women, including the woman she spent the rest of her life with, but she Also had long term relationships with Men. Snufkin is, after all, based on her once fiance Atos.

We don't know and will Never know what Tove would identify as if she were alive today. We Don't know and will never know if she was solely attracted to women, romantically or sexually, by the end of her life.

She was a Finnish woman born in 1914, she had relationships with men in the past, and she didn't lay out her exact relationship with her sexuality to the public like a caard.

And yet people feel so entitled to Insist that she must be gay, and only gay. That her works, then, must be gay and only gay. The fact that we have every reason to believe that it was entirely possible that she was m-spec, that she loved Multiple genders, is swept under the rug in favor of putting up a velvet rope.

Just the same as Tove was engaged to a man, moomin has been dating snorkmaiden since the 1940s. Would moomin realize he was gay if he came to terms with his feelings for snufkin? Would he realize he was bi? Would he want a relationship with Both snufkin And snorkmaiden?

There isn't one answer, there's never been. And to insist otherwise is an act of futility. Moomin as a franchise has existed since the 1940s, has passed the hands of many dozens, hundreds, thousands of creators by now, and the source material is as eternally ambiguous as our understanding of the creator herself (and those two facts being true is no coincidence, both were Tove's choice).

And it is Exactly that ambiguity that makes this story accessible to the Entire community. You don't get to decide otherwise just because You don't want to share. You don't own it, you can't smother the rest of the community any more than you can burn out the queer people that you hate so much.

Queer is ambiguity, Queer is inclusivity, Queer is community, and that's exactly why people who want to cut away people who aren't Like Them are so futility invested in destroying it

Please what’s the moomin reference I’m dying to know

I've tried to write this post a Few times without going into a full essay about what moomin is, as that's Not necessary for answering the question. however, I am unfortunately me and this is the Writes Essays Blog. so I've simply decided I will be a nuisance instead.

but the plus side is that I've been thinking about writing about some of my other fandoms here for a while ! so, for a crash course on the franchise:

“moomin,” “the moomins,” or “moominvalley” is a franchise originally stemming from first novels and then comics written in the 1940s-50s by the finnish author tove jansson, which has since ballooned with Many adaptations and other such goodies (like themeparks and games). 

it’s most popular adaptation is hands down the 90s anime adaptation ! which took tove’s charming designs and calming atmosphere and kicked it up to 11 with a long-form slice of life series

but all versions have their own particular flair and tone, even two versions created by tove herself are Very different. with the comics having a focus in on the absurd and comedic and the novels, while certainly Having those elements, also focus in on more serious themes and melancholy!

of course, moomin was a relatively unknown entity in the us because it never officially released here, but there was a brief boom here on tumblr in 2019 thanks to the release of a new adaption (called moominvalley)!

it was a perfect storm for a couple reasons:

1: while it can be a bit difficult to track down the series in the us, the Characters are all extremely accessible. with their designs alone you can pick up on who and what the main cast are both Quickly and Scarily Accurately, with the fandom largely rising Before most people had found access to the content itself flkjfdaskjkjl

they're Incredibly Simple characters that still lend themselves well to complexity. they aren't blank slates in the slightest, but they're easy to Bend and reimagine and flesh out. which is really appealing to fandom spaces!

2: having multiple different fleshed out iterations to choose from meant that if you looked you could most likely find something that suited your taste! (it'd be an incredibly accessible franchise if they'd actually make their content Accessible world wide)

3: this is Especially relevant in how the franchise can act as both escapism and catharsis. the 90s anime especially is a comfortable cottage-core fantasy to sink yourself into and forget the woes of real world (something that was about to become Very relevant in 2019), but the novels were specifically written for an audience that was actively living through war.

and while tove never wanted to make the franchise Dark or Gritty, she wanted to create a series that could help children process and come to terms with some of the feelings they Would realistically be experiencing. one of the very first novels is "Comet in Moominland," where a great comet is coming down to crash into the earth. it still engages with comedy and with the absurd, and of course nobody Dies, but it was very intentionally trying to create an accessible outlet to understand Tragedy and Fear. among lots of other things ! and this is, of course, tempered with the warm comforts of friends and family and community.

I think there's a lot to be gained by sifting through this franchise Now honestly. something that can both Distract from the bleakness and help process it, with a certain gentleness either way.

4: tove jansson was an Incredibly queer woman, and this absolutely bleeds into her work and the adaptations that followed!

while inspiration isn't an Exact one-to-one, tove Has spoken about her inspirations for her characters before. moomin (the character) draws a great deal from herself while snufkin, moomin's "best friend" and a funny little beastie, draws from her lovers both in personality and in relationship to moomin!

a big inspiration for snufkin was a man who had nearly been her husband, a vagabond and a socialist for that matter. the official moomin site (which is cannot stress enough, is representative of the franchise itself and heavily curated) describes That as follows [Link]:

In many ways the relationship of Moomintroll (Tove’s alter-ego) and Snufkin describes the relationship between Tove and Atos. Moomintroll admires Snufkin who still is quite distant and very often Moomintroll is also experiencing a deep sense of longing and yearning when Snufkin is leaving to his adventures or choosing to be at peace with his own thoughts. Moomintroll tries to understand Snufkin’s desire for freedom, even though the waiting is not easy.

Just like Tove admired Atos and just like Tove waited for Atos, his love confessions and commitment. [End transcription]

but it was Also based, in part, on the woman who was her wife in all but legality. [Link 1, Link 2] Having met some time 1956 and having stayed life long partners until tove's death in 2001.

they'd built a home together on an island where they'd go to stay every summer, enjoying their own travels and adventures along the way !

come winter, moomin would pine for snufkin as he made his yearly travel down south, but the spring and summer months would always bring snufkin's return! and all the love and warmth that came with him uwu

How exactly that bleeds through in the franchise itself is well. Extensive. picking literally any iteration and trying to lay out, in full, the queer themes present would be an essay longer than this one. so instead have a small selection to illustration the point:

now, naturally, this was (and is) queercoding rather than explicit representation, but this was a queer woman pushing the boundaries of what was allowed to Be in children's media starting in the 1940s and onwards.

there's something About a woman who lived a full and happy life with the woman she loved, pouring that love into her life's work to create a foundation of care and acceptance for the generation that'd come after her, only to see a resurgence of queer teens See her and say what she wasn't allowed to out loud.

which brings us to !

5: the general blanket of pure acceptance radiating from the series.

that's not necessarily anything New for a children's franchise, but in combination with everything else it creates an environment for an absolute comfort series. this fragment of an article about the series has far and away wormed it's way into my mind in some irreversible way (and that's quite a good thing) [Link]:

In most fiction, family is what you escape from if you want to fulfill yourself. For Jansson, family is a place of tolerance, where we can fail and become ourselves. Her experience of growing up gay is there in Snufkin – who is all the more loved for being different. Like the prodigal son, everyone is so thrilled to see him, no one ever asks him where he has been. It’s there too, in Too-Ticky, Jansson’s portrait of her partner. And above all it’s there in the wonderful story where Moomintroll is transformed into the bug-eyed King of California, and his mother recognises him straight away. [End transcription]

the quickest and most accurate description for this series, this franchise as a whole, that I could give is Warmth.

that's not to say that it's All roses. tove herself was an icon, but moomin company is a Company in charge of a franchise in the same ball park as disney properties. but considering there's no way to legally support moomin in the states I'd say the morality of engaging with it on that basis isn't exactly the most pressing of issues.

now with all of That out of my system: the actual information relevant to the comparison.

one of the stories in moomin (the novels, the 90s anime, and the 2019 adaptation, though I'm most familiar with the latter) is "The Invisible Child." [Link]

it's the story of ninny, an invisible child that moomin and co find and bring into their home to try to figure out Why she's invisible and how to fix it.

as we come to find out, ninny went invisible and lost her voice (even the ink on paper she tried to write on going invisible) because she'd been made to Feel invisible through the neglect of her aunt.

the moomins help ninny find her confidence again, with small aspects coming back to her as they make progress and regressing as they make missteps. but the ultimate point is that she needs to feel Seen and Heard.

that feeling of not having a voice, of not having a Presence, taking on the form of a Physical curse of invisibility.

it's a concept that meshes Extremely well with tommy's situation, even Without the headcanon.

I'm genuinely stupid sorry lol but what's proship? is it like people being ok with shipping gross/immoral crap or just shipping generally or?

This is gonna get a bit long but tldr:

1) Proshippers are okay (And Usually Engage WITH) gross/immoral shipping. They either don't Care abt people that do this/ "dont care what people ship" (or again. Do it themselves) and thus should not be interacted with.

2) I ask that anyone who IS a proshipper or abides people with that term to unfollow/block me rn 🖕

So proshippers say they dont care about what people ship as a defense for their actions of engaging with such gross/immoral material (and include how people are Policing their ships this is a BIG dogwhistle right here on how they phrase it) I'm going to assume you've read all those "fiction affect reality" posts (Example One: Sharks after the release of Jaws. Example Two: JK R0wlings influence associated w Harry Potter success in Real Life Politics ) and agree with them and now see how Proshipping mentality is a Very Bad One.

Now proshippers are aware of this, so they decided to make a term so that the "other side" (y'know so Normal People who think that shipping 1nc/est and ped0 things is Wrong) seem so "horrible" and "policing for the smallest things!!!" : Antis

I wouldn't suggest taking this title up for oneself as its basically a dogwhistle for proshippers and also people who were not aware (presumibly, such as you were anon). stay away as the title suggests a negative tone. but basically being an "anti" means youve got fuckin enough common sense/decency to think its Not Okay to ship gross/immoral ships.

I am not saying to Directly Harass anyone who agrees with this term (and proshippers utilize this for the Anti terms so ur just feeding fuel to the fire there). Some people say they're Proship because they do not understand Exactly what it means (maybe they don't abt shipping but DO care when it involves gross/immoral ones etc.) in which case inform them of what it truly means and the negative correlation with it. If they still stick with the label, I'd no longer engage w the person and just Block.

BASICALLY if u see something like THIS in anyways faq, caard, etc, they support those gross shit but make it seem like the other side is "Sooo Picky for No Reason!!!" (taken from that headmods faq page from that dr coloring book zine btw yesterday lol)

I definitely met some creepy adults online when I was a young'un. One, I believe, attempted to groom me, and even though I'd been taught what to look out for, I was still exposed to material I shouldn't have been. To this day, vore makes me viscerally uncomfortable, because that is what this person used as a grooming tool.

For the most part, though, adults on the Internet when I was growing up were pretty chill. I had a lot of good experiences with them, and I learned a lot from them about myself and my passions. I never felt that adults didn't belong in fandom spaces or online communities, and I didn't cite my own trauma as a reason why they should be barred from them.

There's a lesson about destroying children's sites like Neopets in here somewhere, but there also needs to be a discussion about the way teens behave and the lessons from strange adults they are putting way too much stock into. I know I sound old saying this, but kids these days are genuinely different. They've been raised differently, in a different time, in a different environment, and it has made them worse people.

No minor should be sharing personal information with anyone they met online, and yet their caards and social media profiles are bursting with every minute detail of their inner selves. What frightens them. What triggers their trauma. Where they live.

No minor should be engaging adults in any form of discourse, especially those which involve adult media or topics, and yet I see them do so constantly, seeking strange adults out to argue about NSFW material, whether or not it's problematic, whether or not it should even exist.

No minor should be doxxing, threatening, and suicide baiting strangers on the Internet, and yet...

Growing up on social media has done real, demonstrable damage to Gen Z. Part of it is the fault of big companies stripping the Internet of kid-friendly sites. Part of it is the fault of parents for not being more attentive. Part of it is the fault of our generation, who have taught these kids that discourse and drama are the most important things on the Internet.

Lines need to start being drawn. Social media sites need to stop allowing minors to sign up. Sites specifically for kids and teens need to make a comeback.

We need to make spaces for kids, and we need them to stop trying to take our spaces from us.

personal complaining time (not fandom related lol) bc that last tag game got me nostalgic and thinkin 

man i’m just really bummed that covid full stop halted my modeling side business. like i was in such a great position at the start of this year after all the networking and shoots I did in 2019 (two big bridal modeling trips with 10 person teams, 5 outdoor art modeling sessions, reconnected for a weekend with a photographer I worked with in 2017 who came through on a trip and did two long days with them all over the moab area, and several client sessions in the parks around town). I’d updated both my website and made a quick caard with my info/style breakdowns at the end of last winter to get ready for the season. And then it was basically like. I did my warm up trade shoot with a woman & some models from salt lake on March 2nd, and she told me i’d convinced her to switch from shooting families/client work to models bc it was so much easier to work with professionals. And then 1 week later everything shuts down. And I haven’t worked since obviously.

Except the REST of Utah kept shooting as normal!!! Every day I’d see casting calls and photographers putting together “distanced” group shots but. like hell they were actually doing that. and anyone who came to town who got in touch with me was intentionally traveling to a tourism hot spot that closed down and told visitors to stay out so of course I wasn’t going to work with any of them. 

and now i’ve moved to a new city where i have NO networking connections and can’t start making them for another year. just feels like. a bunch of steps backwards. this move was the next step for my primary career/grad school had to happen eventually but. i’m just really sad to lose such a big hobby. I had 4 big shoots i wanted to hire out for/direct this spring and summer before I left moab but obviously none will be able to happen ever. i was even putting together materials to lead dynamic posing workshops. uhg. i’ve even lost a lot of motivation for self portraits/retouching practice because it feels so pointless.

anyway. yeah. i’m very fortunate this was never the plan for my primary livelihood, but it was nice to have the extra work/cash now and then, and I’m just sad about covid like anyone else.

also i havent brought this up with anyone bc it like... always sounds so weird and vain to talk about modeling as a hobby but it really was like. a skill i actively worked on, a lot. Tons of body awareness and thinking about angles and being aware of your background and surroundings and how to mirror/complement them. I’ve always been good at making shapes but was finally getting my expressions more variable. and ive absolutely lost a lot of that now and am gonna have to start over on those skills too which is just a bummer. cant even remember what lenses add how much compression and how to compensate anymore. uhg.
