your favorites poll made me have to choose between Karlach and Morrigan (who just barely eked out; mostly bc I've loved her significantly longer) but while I was struggling my brain was just like. what if they kissed and dated maybe. so thank you for introducing me to this new concept in a roundabout way, I will either have to carry this ship upon my shoulders or make some ocs about it<3
Heeeee. :D Highly entertained by this message, thank you for telling me about this.
My immediate instinct is to try and write something about this for you since you brightened my day by sending me the message and I want to be the hero you need and deserve (and also bc it's been ages since I tried to write Morrigan's voice :D ). Tragically, I am not very good at writing crossovers but I did my best. 😭
-----
"Stand back," the strange dark-haired woman says warily, peering up at Karlach, brandishing a quarterstaff in one hand. "If you are no rage demon, you had better speak quickly, before I act as I must."
Karlach blinks rapidly. "Whoa, whoa, whoa now," she says - her tone's as good-natured as always, but shot through with a line of equally wary tension. "Rage I know all about, but I don't take kindly to anyone calling me a demon."
The stranger relaxes. "Ah. One theory disposed of then. 'Tis a pity, for it would have been the simplest." She raises one eyebrow slowly, examining Karlach from head to foot. "I meant no offense," she adds grudgingly. "I am unaccustomed to being greeted in my travels by flaming women with greataxes."
"Yeah, well, I'm unaccustomed to people popping no-warning out of mirrors in dingy basements I'm trying to loot," Karlach says with the flash of a grin as the moment eases. She doesn't lower her axe but her grip on it loosens. "So I guess we're both having kind of a weird day. You wanna tell me who you are?"
A slight pause. "I am Morrigan," the woman says slowly.
Karlach cocks her head. "Just Morrigan?"
"'Tis a good enough name, is it not?" Morrigan answers acerbically. "Will you return the gesture or no?"
"Karlach Cliffgate," Karlach says promptly. "Two names for the price of one." Slowly she lets the axe drop to hang loosely in one hand at her side. "What's with the mirror, then?"
Morrigan examines her thoughtfully for a moment; it's hard to tell if she is still wary or merely skeptical that Karlach will understand. Then she shrugs. "It is an eluvian," she says, pronouncing the strange word with a graceful sort of elegance that gives Karlach a strange shiver up her back. "A node in a great network that crosses many miles and many worlds."
"Huh." Karlach purses her lips out thoughtfully. "So you're... just in from another plane, then? The Astral or something?"
To her surprise, Morrigan seems puzzled. "I do not know of the planes of which you speak. The land I have traveled from is known as Thedas - but it is clear enough at a glance that I am not there now."
"You're in Faerun," Karlach says. "Never heard of any Thedas, although I'll be the first to tell you I didn't pay a lick of attention in school. Were you trying to go somewhere particular? Or do you just like to pop out randomly like a rabbit out of a hat?"
Morrigan ignores the jocular tone; her dark eyebrows knit together pensively. "Where I am bound is no concern of yours, whoever you might be," she says tightly. "This Faerun... my arrival here was unexpected. A tremor in the Fade, no doubt... some irregularity. 'Tis no matter. I will depart again."
Without so much as a goodbye, she turns on her heel and presses her palm against the mirror behind her...
...and then just stands there, unmoving.
Karlach raises her eyebrows. "Is... something supposed to be happening?"
"Peace," Morrigan mutters. "Something is wrong. I cannot..." She trails off, and in the quarter-profile of her face that Karlach can see, there's an abrupt and quickly-masked flash of fear. "The path is blocked."
Karlach's expression softens. This is the weirdest thing that's happened to her all week - which is saying something, under the circumstances - but she's picked up the general gist: this woman just got tossed out of her home plane and can't get back. And Karlach, unfortunately, understands all too well about being trapped like that.
"Uh... look, I don't know much about this sort of thing, but I'm traveling with a wizard who's smart as a whip. Bet he could help you out," she offers cautiously with a faint smile. "If, y'know, you're the accepting help sort of person."
For a long time Morrigan says nothing at all. Then her hand slides slowly down from the mirror's surface, clenches into a fist, then releases. "I have not always been," she says slowly. "But it was not the least of the things I have learned in my travels. I will accept your help."
"Great!" Karlach says brightly, hoisting her axe back over her shoulder. "C'mon, then, let's get out of this basement; place is giving me the creeps."

Also I've complied all my recent refs for my silly oc crossover idea into a nice clean group pic version of this. This one looks better, but unfortunately doesn't have the cute characters interactions as the previous. At least it looks nice!

Both decisions with the haunted, nasty, old bath water in dai have always been dissatisfying to me and I realize now it’s bc I was trying to pick who ‘deserved’ it more. Like I was looking for someone to have more of a claim to it. But that’s stupid so whatever. Merrill would have loved it tho, she’d be like “yay! Gonna add this to the collection of stuff trying(and failing) to haunt me”

@spilledw1ne / morrigan ❝ i don't like most people, but you're an exception. ❞
Morrigan must have known the effect her words would have, the insufferable grin she would receive from Colum. Perhaps that had been her goal, and if so she had succeeded admirably. And if the words had only been spoken without thought to their effect, well, he'd be happy for that too. The more of Morrigan he saw behind her guard, the deeper he fell for her. So much had changed between the two since the Kocari Wilds.
Tumblr media
"And glad I am to be such a rare exception," he replied. "I like you as well, Morrigan." His intent was relayed more bluntly, the sentiment behind the words obvious in his tone and gaze, for he enjoyed seeing her reaction such blatant affection.
