Rick has showed a great amount of growth this season over all. He apologizes and admits that Morty’s right. He’s able to admit to the Beths the truth about his original daughter. These are the obvious changes, but he’s grown in smaller ways too. He makes sure Summer gets to go on spring break and gives her protection from all the alcohol she’ll inevitably drink.

“Don’t take more than two. Drink lots of water. And remember to blink.”

Rick even warns Jerry about the Adderall that he’s telling him to take. He’s not just making sure he’s alive. He’s making sure he’ll feel okay once it’s worn off

He felt every instinct in his body point towards defensiveness, his muscle tensing for a moment, his look turning suspicious as Beth came closer. For a moment, he thought of pulling away, of telling her that things weren't that bad and that he was used to it at this point. Thank you for your help, take your pity elsewhere and let me sulk in peace.

But she looked at him with kindness, not with pity. So he let her touch his leg, swallowing hard as if trying to push down the lies and accept help for once. "I cannot exactly explain what it feels like anymore. Sometimes it's pain, sometimes it's numbness. But clumsier, yes, definitely. I almost fell down the stairs a few days ago, broke a piece of my cane in the process," he admitted, pointing towards the walking stick that lay next to him.

"I haven't been a good patient, Beth," he started again, cowering like a child that had to confess he was the one who broke the flower vase. "I am behind on physical therapy, I can't find the energy to stretch, I have almost given up on the heating pads. I know it's wrong, but sometimes it all feels very futile."

A branch through the leg was an injury Beth couldn't begin to imagine going through. No imaging machines available here, likely no biopsy equipment, either.

If it was Osteomyelitis, Lucien was lucky to have dodged a worse infection. But, Beth's deeper concern was the bone dying if blood circulation was being affected by chronic inflammation.

She considered for a spell, looking at the leg, the scar, how he sat. Reaching for the exposed skin, Beth paused, looking to Lucien for consent before touching. "Does there feel like pressure that only lets up when you take the weight off? Feeling any clumsier lately? Ice packs or heating pad help at all?"

My new Roman Empire is about Rick Sanchez

Hear me out. Rick Sanchez has narcissism: his ego is frail, he lashes out when he feels like ppl are out to get him (all the time), he cannot stand himself, he's vindictive, manipulative, he uses his vulnerabilities to get his living supplies stuck with him, he abuses family members just for fun or out of boredom, he's antagonistic, he lies, he's entitled and he actively gaslights people, especially his family; his empathy and sense of selves are completely f*cked up.

So, if he had the chance to take care of his own Beth, would he really have been a good father? Compassionate, consistent, emotionally present? Or Rick Sanchez needed to step out of his own mental prison, to embark himself in this Odyssey, before actually achieving this honest and serene acceptance of love? Was this Rick Sanchez even possible, without a Rick Prime catalyst?

Would he have been just another mediocre father, another absent minded, self-absorbed narcissist with a ruined family?

It's my new Roman Empire.

also little thing so the post i made on my roleplay account makes a bit more sense:

despite being a faerie, beth does not like making deals, or really a lot of traditional fae customs, so having to make a deal with midas during stream really messed with her mentally

The craziest part of the episode to me is the ice cream table exchange about Beth tbh like Morty truthfully believes that Rick would say

“This may as well be our real daughter because she’s just as real as you.”

and

“Put it this way. You’re all basically NPCs. Only Morty and I are real, so your side quests don’t matter. The main quest is us.” (referring to he and Diane exclusively)

And when Diane, rightfully, combats him for his thinking with

“You’re disgusting. You’re talking about our baby girl like she’s theoretical?”

Beth throws in “Welcome to the family.”

Which might be one of the most heartbreaking lines in the whole thing to me because Morty has observed Rick enough to believe that this line of thinking is entirely in character for not only Rick but for the rest of the family too. Like Morty truly believes that Rick doesn’t care about them in anyway and that when faced with this, even Beth would just respond with the belief that this is the norm, at least from Rick anyway. So much so, that he uses an outside character in Diane to call out how insane it is.

Morty believes that Rick only cares about Diane and literally everyone else doesn’t matter and that’s just so sad to me, especially when we have seen otherwise but he can’t be faulted for thinking that when Rick carries that facade with him almost always, and especially to Morty directly.
