It had been a while since Lucien had gotten drunk- admittedly it took a lot of alcohol to inebriate a person of his size, but as it turned out that quantity could be consumed if he had enough time on his hands and an old friend by his size. The night breeze made him feel a little better as he was helped both by Harry and by his cane to get to his home, but his words just made him burst out as well, the laugh somehow contagious. "Why, am I going to get attacked by zombies?" he asked and the combination of absurdity and reality somehow just made the situation more hilarious in his head. "Or are you just scared of the dark?"

starter for @lucienmelaina || Scared of the dark - Lil Wayne, Ty Dolla Sign
Way too drunk thanks to the distillery last round, Harry was half laughing half helping Lucien to walk home. "The fuck you're doing man, don't go that way!" He complained despite the laugh. They were in the middle of the night, in the middle of the dark, Redwood was quiet... or almost quiet thanks to Harry still laughing for some unknown reasons. Hopefully, drunk Harry was also happy Harry, saving him from all those traumatic memories, like none of them happened, like none of them scared or horrified the man.

You find a note attached to your front door. In lowercase letters it reads: you are the bermuda triangle.
Lucien flipped note around, but there was nothing else on it, the handwriting unfamiliar, the paper nondescript. "The bermuda triangle?" he whispered to himself- on the one hand, he knew that was just a conspiracy theory, but on the other hand, who didn't love a good ghost story? He put it in his pocket and walked up the stairs, the writer part of his mind wandering to more and more unrealistic possibilities, the sane one trying to figure out who he should talk about this with.

"Just make sure you don't cook in our kitchen, or the house will smell like onion for a week," Lucien said with a small wistful smile, reminiscing that exact smell in his grandma's house. "You know, when I became vegetarian I was scared yiayia was going to look at me somewhere between weird and hostile. And she just learned to make stifado with mushrooms instead of meat."
He was glad their grandparents did not live to see the apocalypse. They would have never been able to run and he was sure his grandpa would find some deep religious meaning even in his last moments.
He couldn't help but wonder when was the last time his brother had seen any of them. Whether their last conversation had been the one where they kicked him out, not knowing that they would never get another chance.
"So my arms are not good enough for you?" he asked, playfully swatting away his hand away from his biceps. "Maybe that's why I will accidentally hit your head on the doorframe. And maybe a couple of bookcases."
Ares's idea excited Lucien, smiling as they walked in unison away from the house. "Swimming has always been easier. It makes the pain better," he commented, glad to note how much better walking had gotten as well, leaning less and less on his cane nowadays.
But his brother's words also brought up another memory, a sweet one nonetheless. "Do you remember that summer when we used to go to the community swimming pool every second day? Mom and dad were working, our sister was at some whizkid camp, I had just gotten my license and you were being a menace. It helped you blow off steam and you were always so impressed that I could go all the way to the deep end with my feet still on the ground."
"Jokes on you, I got cooking duty anyway. The hunters brought back some rabbit, and I wanna try making stifado. So yes, I will be bringing you dinner and you will be a test subject." Ares grinned, leaning up against the doorframe as he waited on Lucien.
Watching his brother get up and move felt good, as weird as that sounded. There was so much more ease to it now. And it wasn't just the fact that Lucien didn't really need to use his cane anymore, or that he didn't have to fight against his body every step of the way, though that definitely helped. More like something inside of Lucien had changed. Made him want to work on his body, become better.
Maybe it'd been the Daybreaker attack. The feeling that something needed to change. The talk in the hospital after Lucien got shot was still fresh enough in Ares' mind.
He shook the thought off, which was easy enough as he followed his brother down the stairs. "Oh really? You promise you're gonna full on bridal-carry me one day? I'll hold you to that. Might have to work on your arms a bit more." As soon as they reached the bottom of the stairs, Ares squeezed Lucien's biceps, feeling the lax muscles shift under his fingers, before he stepped outside into the warm, early summer air.
"You know, I had an idea." Ares turned around and walked backwards for a few steps, knowing the way well enough to not fall now. "Since it's not freezing outside anymore, maybe we could try out swimming. Amsale said it might help with my back too. Aqua-therapy or something. Probably a lot cooler than working out in the gym. Though I guess it might not work for you because you'd be able to stand in the middle of the lake."

If Ares asked you to leave Redwood with him, would you?
Leave and go where. He would need a very convincing argument. I've built a life here. I think we both have.

How much alcohol do you need to get drunk? Must be a lot
A lot, but not as much as you'd think. Especially now that I'm not drinking very often.

Do you like like Ike? No cryptic answers!
'Like like Ike' sounds a little bit like you're having a stroke. I think I am at a healthy balance of liking him and wanting to punch him in the face. Which I think counts as a success for someone like him.

"Ares, it was just leg day two days ago," he complained on cue, probably exaggerating. "You know what, whatever. Do your worst. And when we get home I will just lie down and force you to get dinner for both of us."
He stood back up with miniscule help from his cane and hang it over his shoulder, pulling his hair into a bun with an elastic between his teeth. "If I want to fall down the stairs, I have proven that I can do it very successfully on my own, thank you very much," he shot back and headed down with a hand on the railing. "But one day I will carry you and you will know your job is done."
"Gotta be honest, it was a great warm-up." Ares responded as he watched his brother put on his sports outfit with noticeable ease. Though it hadn't been without challenges, but they'd managed to fall into a routine together, that'd become smoother as they went on. It'd done his brother some good.
"You can make it hard for me at the gym. You can complain as much as you want once we get there. It's leg day today." Ares grinned and opened the door, ready to make his way down the stairs, which were now fitted with custom-made railings. "Want me to carry you there? Can't promise I'll get you down the stairs safely."

which greek myth are you and what moral are you dying for
flew too close to the sun, DIED FOR: pride you are literally icarus, bestie. The sun was warm and beautiful and bright, the plummet to the ocean significantly less so. You got that brief awe striking taste of freedom and you promptly destroyed yourself with it. You are the type of person to bask in the warmth of the sun on your skin and love your friends a little too much. Your martyr complex would’ve led to you sacrificing yourself for them if you hadn’t had met this fate.

It had been quite difficult to find enough pairs of sweatpants that fit him, but they had somehow turned into an essential part of his closet. He put on one of the freshly washed grey pairs and stepped out of his bedroom, finding his brother with his shoes already on and waiting at the door.
"Should I be complaining more?" he asked as he leaned over to put on his own trainers, the movement having gotten satisfyingly easier. "I feel like I have been making this way too easy for you. Don't you miss having to drag me to the gym?"

Lucien waited at his spot while Foster got ready to go, unable to conceal a small smile at the acceptance of his invitation. "See, I never claimed to be a good librarian," he defended himself, gesturing with his free hand, "but the town is unfortunately stuck with me." The truth was more complicated than that, but Foster would have to see in person.
They walked side by side towards the library, Lucien trying his best to walk at a normal pace, determined to not have the man wait for him to catch up. "So, how has our small corner of the apocalypse been treating you so far?"
"And so the record shows," Foster rejoined, grinning. "I did. Same eyebrows, hmm? Should've known."
Lucien didn't come in, probably for the best. Foster wasn't really set up for company. The request was a surprise, something no doubt reflected on Foster's face. "A book? You don't have them all catalogued and arranged? Tsk, Lou," he tutted, "you've become a slacker."
Pushing away from the door, Foster brushed his hands off on the back of his pants. "I'll get my shoes."
