Whenever I show up in person at a con/festival there’s always at least one parent in their 40s/50s who drops by with their kids, saying they either A) all read the comic, B) their kids read, or C) the parent reads and is trying to make the kids read. It’s glorious.

It also makes me want to apologize for the comic’s undertones sometimes, but hopefully it’s okay. I watched Hexxus growing up and survived 🤣

Since they have the same voice actor I have decided to headcanon Hexxus from Ferngully and MAL from Captain Planet as the same being.

Dr. Blight didn't reprogram MAL, she infected him with Hexxus.

No I don't know how she got him out of the tree. Entirely possible that only a small part of him got out to meet up with Blight and subsequently inhabit the computer, but if the Planeteers weren't constantly thwarting them she'd probably work him back to full power.

Prior to writing all of this out, I had no idea what Baldur's Gate 3 is about other than fight and flirt. I know that I've never been into dnd like other peers, i couldn't really wrap my head around some aspects of dnd, particularly the math side but I know that's only a portion of it ANYway- I believe I heard of Baldur's Gate before but kind of dismissed it. Finally looked into it once friends started talking more about it now, and feel free to correct me- it's all linked with Dnd? I've just read article upon article and try to piece together what makes sense. Faerun, which is where Baldur's Gate is. Which is in a world called Toril, in The Forgotten Realms. Forgotten Realms was/is a setting for stories that Ed Greenwood wrote from the age of 8. And a campaign in DnD. MtG came from DnD but isn't completely 'related' with Forgotten realms. DnD was made by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson (roughly). And ALLL of this is from that? Or at least different iterations through the years but still. * Well. It was certainly a lot to process but writing it down it doesn't look that complicated. I'm just impressed and fascinated that we're still using the same stuff that makes the stories special. Playing with other humans and sharing stories is such a great human thing. * Right, back to Astarion. He's voiced by Neil Newbon, which I previously knew from Detroit: Become Human, Resident Evil 3 as well as Resident Evil Village. When I tell you I wouldn't believe you if you told me he was British... He's from the UK. I just had to hear him talk a few times. Astarion is a sad vampire man that plays his very touching backstory -at least what i can piece together for myself- off with jokes, being elbow deep in gore and flirting. I don't know why he makes me all giddy but he does and I love him. I can understand why a lot of people don't like him up to a point, and I certainly understand why there's a lot of thirst after him too. What I don't understand is why does he go so hard? The narrator is one thing, but he is the spice on top of everything imo. You know, for someone who hasn't played it and doesn't really plan to, don't judge me too harshly lmao * I feel like there's characters that give me the same vibes as Astarion does, Lucifer played by Tom Ellis, Tim Curry's Hexxus from Fern Gully, Frank-N-Furter from Rocky Horror Picture, Darkness from Legend, and pretty much the most of his roles lol; David Tennant as Davina in Rab C Nesbit They all have such an allure, there's horniness and 'mystery' to everyone of them. * Baldur's Gate 3 also reminds me of Witcher 3 and Dragon Age: Inquisition, both games I adore and played all the way through and played them again and again. All deal with magic, fighting, flirting and are so immersive. Though I'm sure Witcher 3 had little nudity, BG3 takes the cake, you can customize sex organs and I wasn't prepared for that in any way.

TL;DR: I looked into the origins of DnD, MtG, and Baldur's Gate all to connect with people better, all the find out that I have a crush on Astarion and can't really share how deep of a crush it is, with people that know me, or I would be shunned and possibly mocked lol.

[April Fools! “Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue” is a histrionic anti-drug PSA from the early 90s, in which a bevy of cartoon characters try to rescue a teenager from the horrors of drug use. Like Reefer Madness, only with Bugs Bunny and the Muppet Babies. What’s especially funny about the show is that the most stoned-seeming characters are part of this intervention: Winnie the Pooh, Garfield, Alf, Michelangelo (of all the Ninja Turtles!) and Slimer all make appearances.

Rather than use established villains (wouldn’t it have been great to see Cobra Commander dealing crack?), “Cartoon All-Stars” introduces a new character, Smoke, voiced by George C. Scott. Think Hexxus, only with smaller goals and much less horny. This seemed like a good choice for a div, which are fiends of corruption and destruction, and at least theoretically tied to genies. “Druj” is a term for divs in general, meaning “liar”, and Uta specifically is the div of poisoning through food and drink.]

Div, Druj Uta CR 4 NE Outsider (extraplanar) This creature resembles a smoky humanoid from the waist up, tapering away into a trail of vapor from the waist down. Its eyes are yellow and heavy lidded, and the top of its head twists like smoke from a campfire. It is well-dressed, its body seemingly incorporating formal attire.

The druj uta, sometimes just called a smoke div, is a creature that represents the corrupting influence of drug addiction. They are expert pushers and cajolers, getting people to try drugs and facilitating their addictions through both words and magical influence. Once their mark is addicted, the druj uta encourages them to lie, cheat and steal in order to feed their habit, delighting as they descend farther into evil. People who try to intervene are viewed as potential new converts, and a druj uta’s first instinct is to try to talk them into taking drugs as well. Druj utas enjoy corrupting children most of all; the only small blessing is that their div compulsions prevent them from doing physical harm to a child. Gaslighting and mental manipulation are fair game, however, as is attacking anyone who tries to come to the child’s rescue.

Druj utas are physically very weak, barely capable of manipulating physical objects. They are gaseous creatures, and can drift through cracks and crevices, making them difficult to damage with physical weapons. Their touch is infused with negative energy, and they can create a wide variety of magical effects that sap strength and spread poison. Most druj utas are cowards, and would much rather flee than fight to the death.

I have finished episode 1 and I liked it quite a lot! I hope it continues this way. So far it has made improvements in every area I had issue with in season 1.

A little list of things I enjoyed below the cut if you don't mind spoilers/you're interested in that kind of thing

A) I LOVE how bad Beginning of the 2nd Age-Power Vacuum Sauron is at leadership! Complete cringefail leader. the orcs mutiny 5 minutes after he takes over. His little Lord Farquad speech. He got stabbed so many times! Someone else called him a recently promoted middle manager and yes, that's the vibe exactly. He's just so bad at it.

B) Goo Guy. Sauron gets Caesar-ed and just mopes as a puddle of goo for a couple hundred years until (presumably) he hears Gal skulking around his frozen castle and eats enough rats to become evil noodles. He's Hexxus from Ferngully flopping down a mountain and I giggled such a giggle.

C) Poppy!

D) Elf Songs!

E) the origin of the pouch! Also the way he lets the other humans speak first so he can mimic their accent. He gets murdered one time because he couldn't match the vibe and my goes "never a-fucking-gain, I've going to pivot so hard I swear"

F) The added context around the "the tides of fate are flowing" raft moment which is more subtle and complex now that we know what the pouch means to him and now that Charlie Vickers knows he's Sauron and knows he knows who Galadriel is. (He didn't find out he was Sauron until episode 3 in season 1)

To me this scene doesn't read "mastermind" it reads opportunism. I read his little smirk as "my enemy's fate is in my hands, I can leave her to drown" and there's little beat after with a bit of inner conflict. And we know from season one that the conflict and the "choose good again and again" won out (albeit temporarily) with Galadriel. He abandons his raft-mates, but given the second chance to help Galadriel he does. Twice. And the context of the pouch and the sweet old man he totally left to die really does add to it. I was afraid he'd be way too arch now that we know who he is, but it's just the right amount of mustache twirling so far. G) Lil Moses moment. I like that it worked and the people of the Southlands do get free.

H) Halbrand's dungeon time. Look, I'm only human

I) Círdan. Ben Daniels is so fucking good

All the elf scenes feel so much more charged, urgent, and personal. I'm bought in.

J) speaking of elves, Sauron and Galadriel's divorce era is off to a great start. Just badmouthing each other at every turn.

K) the little R & J moment when the messenger arrives and oh no it's the wrong message! Tragedy will ensue!

L) L is for last but not least, "I will serve the lord of mordor" and that little wordplay grin. Perfect amount of mustache twirl for the moment.

Welp, predictably, I lost the bet and resisted the call of the rings for all of a day and a half. I'm 30 minutes into the 1st episode of season 2 and frankly having a ball

My first thought was Hexxus from FernGully so ofc I sent the villain song to Joy to tease her. Joke’s on me tho b/c you’ll never fucking guess what’s stuck in my head now

Who could been the best what if VA for Zil, the original Big Bad of Cars 2?

In case you’re wondering or just don't get it, you're probably asking me: Just who the hell is Zil, mate?! Well, Zil was the original villain for Cars 2

Given what was seen of him in concept art and that particular deleted scene; in my humble opinion, Zil  is arguably being the closest the World of Cars franchise could had to a true Knight of Cerberus/ completely truly evil and threatening villain. 

The other World of Cars antagonists like the rivals (Chick Hicks, Ripslinger and Jackson Storm) and others were more of the likes of being greedy, selfish assholes/bullies and/or obstacles to overcome; and some of them at least had shown their standards, hidden depths or a code of honor.

Miles Axlerod, Grem and Acer, Professor Zundapp and most of the Lemon Heads were a close second to be an actual threat (probably because they are this universe equivalent of the Mafia and terrorists!)

I mean:

*They brutally murdered two spies: Leland Turbo-crushed and Rod Redline-tortured to death

*They sabotaged a fuel/weaponized a camera to hurt/ probably kill different racers from around the world (I mean Lightning was almost a target for assassination!)

*Making Mater into a suicide bomber as a backup plan to kill Lightning, and it not only the bomb could have killed both McQueen and Mater, but other innocent cars who were unfortunately in the way (and remember that most of the Radiator Springs gang were there in the pits!)

Honestly, I wish we had this guy instead as the main villain, he seems more menacing and cooler. (Granted Cars 2 originally was going to be dark, REALLY DARK, as in like as in Incredibles 1 and Toy Story 3 levels of dark)

Well Pixar likes to recycle ideas, so as the video stated maybe Zil could possible be reused as the main villain for a possible Cars 4 or maybe for a book, comic or a videogame or a animated short/special?

(2:15) You can hear him speak and get an idea how he could may sound like. Warning the death scene is pretty disturbing, it probably give you an idea how Leland Turbo died

I wanna share my thoughts on a movie. But not just any movie, oh no! I wanna talk about 1992’s Don Bluth animated film FernGully: The Last Rainforest because my opinions on it are a clusterfuck. I’m putting the Wikipedia summary of this film right here so I don’t have to explain it myself.

So my first issue with this movie is that Crysta and Zack-without-a-C hit it off immediately. Like what happens is this:

It’s ridiculous.

What the summary failed to mention is that Crysta has a friend called “batty” (cuz yknow creativity) that was tested on by humans. But here’s the catch; he’s voiced by Robin Williams, and he raps. He raps on his experiences of animal experimentation and cruelty. Keep this in mind: the song was cut in half for the production of the movie. This wasn’t the only song cut in half, but I’ll get to that soon. But anyways, the full version is darker than the version used in the film.

But what I really wanna talk about is this movie’s villain, Hexxus. At the beginning of the movie, when he gets released from the tree because of the loggers, he looks like (obviously) something you’d find in a sewer. But then he gets inside of the logger’s machine, where he has the audacity to turn into this smog man that I can only describe as making me go “hummana hummana *eyes pop out of skull* awOOga *jaw drops out and tongue rolls out*” and he sings an oddly sexual song about destroying the rainforest and his obsession with slime. This was the other song cut in half, because the full version is even more sexual than the film version. I am not kidding when I say that one of the lines in this song is “I feel good, a special kind of horny, flowers and trees depress and frankly bore me”. Yeah. I blame this motherfucker for being my awakening the first time I watched this movie.

For some reason, the loggers in control of the machine don’t seem to notice Hexxus for most of the film. It’s like

At the end of the movie, when Crysta And Pals™️ try to stop Mr. I’m Too Sexy For My Solid Form, Crysta’s grandma, Magi, turns all green, disperses into the air, and gives Crystal Pepsi a Mufasa-esque “remember who you are” speech and a seed to use to capture Sexxus- I mean Hexxus inside a tree again

So yeah, with this recap, you might think that I hated the film, but I actually kind of enjoyed it. Sure, the writing is bad, and really preachy with its “save the trees” message, but it’s fun to watch.

Trope - Magnificent Bastard

Capturing the audience with their charisma, incredible intellect, mastery of manipulation, and boldness of action, this character is a show-stealer.  

They are brilliant and utterly devious, a smooth operator. They are also savvy and do not fall for obvious traps; bringing them down is no easy feat.

They are charismatic, often charming, their personality is like a physical force. While they exist on the darker end of the moral spectrum, they never take disgusting actions that undermine their magnificence, leaving them diabolical but in a way the audience can’t help but enjoy. And they are definitively not cowards. Ever.

How do you feel about the Exodus?

“Isn’t it wonderful???”

A slice of a grin, sharp as any blade cuts across those almost serpentine features.  It’s quite clear from the sadistic glee that taints those words that the so called ‘tragedy’ that had befallen the fables was, in this case at least - more of a boon.  It’s not the first world he’s found himself in.  It’s not the first place he’s been allowed to roam, to pick apart the corners of existence like the oil slick stain that dripped in his chest where most would expect a heart to be.  It’s not the first place The Nothing has been drawn to – and whether he was sent, or pulled, or tossed like the latest piece of garbage rolling along filthy asphalt, he is here.  And that’s all that matters.  When this place is gone… Crumbled, ash and dust, decaying and – d e a d.  There will be another.  There always is.

Meanwhile, he’s nestled in his booth at Wonderland.  Lounging deep in the plush seat - There’s something about the way he takes to a chair which makes him seem more like a liquid than a solid.  There was never any ‘perching’, no ‘sitting’, it couldn’t even be defined as ‘slouching’.  Just a way of going from standing to a casually recumbent state - looking as though he’d been occupying said piece of furniture for vastly longer than the fleeting moments he’s actually been there - the martini which is delivered to the table only a moment later testament to that fact.

There’s a sinuous shrug, fingers trailing the cherry around the glass on it’s little stick, gleaming red, reflecting the lights of the club as though it were an ember ready to ignite.

“ – the bad guys can win.”

Was it hard adjusting to life in Fabletown? Do you miss the Homeworld?

“No, and, no.”

It’s a fairly straight forward, very direct answer.  Why would he miss the saccharine boredom of that place???  Where people smiled inanely all day ( surely a sign of some kind of deeper communal psychosis in his opinion ), where they sung happy little ditties which were nausea inducing at best, horribly revealing, over sharing and a big ole slice of ‘TMI’ at worst.  It makes his new found flesh creep at the mere thought something of a burgeoning migraine teasing into place between his eyes with the harshness of an ice pick driving through his skull.

Why would he miss the constant drudgery of eternal predictable ‘happy endings’.  Where traits like ambition, pride, deceit, manipulation and the like are all – undesirable.  

Here – oh, HERE, they’re keys.  Which unlock the aforementioned potential.  Things to be admired, wary of, respectful of – fearful of.  A place where it’s not the biggest sword, or brainless bravado, or the glimmer of light that stands victorious - but the sharpest mind, the patient darkness, the sweetest lie.

Where is your favorite place in Fabletown or New York?

“While Wonderland is so dearly – enchanting.  And the delights we have to offer are implicitly and uniquely spectacular, I do sometimes favour – other – kinds of amusement… And there are plenty of places in this city to be – entertained.”

While he says little else on the matter publicly - there are a few who frequent said establishments who would see him as something of a regular voyeur.  A foot into the Four Jacks isn’t unusual - a test of skill or luck in a gamble here and there.  But that’s not the main draw of the place.  While he can see tantamount supple bodies and exposed flesh in a myriad of forms at Wonderland, it’s all a little too – pristine – to sustain those darker desires for long.  The money he carries into the casino isn’t for a trite game of poker, or a clicking slot - it’s for the more visceral purveying of brutalism.  The Underdrome, with broken bones, shattered skulls, blood in fountains aplenty.  Those combatants pitched in delicious instinctive battle.  It’s human nature to – f i g h t.  To devolve to that primal brain where the only thing that matters is - survival.  

To hate, to hurt, to harm, to kill.  – Chaos unleashed.

It’s all rather good fun, really.

How do you feel about magic? Do you think it should be banned, regulated, or neither?

There’s something of a ‘tchh’ between his teeth, a click of a tongue like the rattle of bone dice.  The martini he’s been nursing finally lifted from the table so that he can sample a little of the sweet-sour flavour on his tongue.

“The only people who care about controlling or banning magic are the ones who either a) don’t understand it or - and the likeliest option - b) don’t have it.”

“Jealousy, perhaps.  Little green eyed monsters clamouring for something beyond their grasp.  Fear - of the unknown.”

Just another delightful little weakness to exploit.

“I have no idea why my opinion would matter either way.  I’m sure the NYPDs finest are on the case and doing… whatever it is they do between their copious consumption of donuts.”

Does he care???  Not particularly.  

And macabre as it sounds, even the death of Red hadn’t particularly hurt business.  In fact - it’s booming.  As much of a highlight as she was, the morbid fascination of the populace drawing them to a place that might be connected to a grisly murder was stronger – they come for the freak show, like vultures snapping at the eyes of corpses – they stay for the entertainment.  The bodies beautiful.  The liquor which loosens tongues and wallets both.  

The real fun is the almost tangible tremble that ran along the spines of every other fable.  A suddenly looming mortality.  A copious and present paranoia.  A fearful herd, a flock, scurrying around and jumping at shadows – in which, someone of the right persuasion could see their way to taking advantage…

…To that end, I set my wolf among you sheep.
