So, because I’ve been obsessed with Christian Borle, I finally decided to watch (a totally legal version of) falsettos.
It honestly was so much better than I was prepared for. The way it explores so many themes: queerness in the 70/80s, irregular family dynamics, fragile masculinity, Jewish culture, and the AIDS epidemic. It’s a show that’s just so full of love and soul and I couldn’t be happier that I watched it… but oh god nothing has made me cry like that in a good long while. like. I swear to you. It’s very hard for media to make me cry. But by the end of this show I was WEEPING.
I woke up my sleeping girlfriend just because I needed to tell her I love her and how happy I am I have her because oh my god. There’s no wake up call stronger than watching a loving couple be separated by forces out of their control. Reminding me that I can’t take my loved ones for granted. (P.s. girlfriend was very concerned cuz she woke up and I’m just sat, crying and saying I love you)
anyways, if you haven’t watched falsettos, go watch it, and if you have, watch it again.

Gen question, why do you hate the 2019 production
Jesus. This is gonna be a really long post. Check under the cut.
Honestly? I'm not quite sure m'self. It's jus.. not good and I don't know how to describe it. No hate if you like it, Anon, but I listened to the soundtrack once n I couldn't get through it. Once 'Dentist!' turned on, I had to shut it off halfway through the song, which I never do, cus it was that bad.
Christian Borle as Orin Scrivello? I despise it. He's not a good Orin, n I will die on that hill. He seemed so.. bored while playin the role n I don't understand how you can be bored playing Orin.
I sat down to actually watched the slime tutorial up on YouTube, cus I wanted to give the show a chance n I hoping it was jus the cast album that was bad, but watchin the video jus made my dislike grow but I stuck it out n watched the whole thing.
There is one thing that I can appreciate bout Borle playin Orin, though, n it's that he's bringin a lot of new fans into the fandom! He's a popular actor n a Tony Award winner; a lot of people know him as Vox from Hazbin plus other roles he's played that I can't think of right now—and ev'ryone wants to check him out in Little Shop!!
Enough of Borle though—Time for Jonathan Groff as Seymour.
I don't have as many problems with him as I do Borle. Jonathan is a fantastic actor, but he's not a good Seymour. When he sings all I can hear is Kristoff from Frozen n it brings me out of whatever song we're in. The way Groff acts as Seymour is.. odd. It jus doesn't feel like Seymour, y'know?
Tammy Blanchard as Audrey? I don't really have words for her, she is awful pretty I gotta say. When I listened to the songs on album, it seemed like she changed actresses halfway through songs. I dunno what's up with that. It was weird.
But in the slime tutorial I saw, Joy Woods played Audrey n—hoo boy. I love Joy Woods. She's a fantastic Audrey (the main inspirations for my black Audrey design) but she really disappointed me in the video.
Feed Me (Git It!) is always a make it or break it song for me—with how almost all of the main cast will be on stage—n ev'ryone was.. eugh. Nobody had any emotion durin the song (especially durin that one part where Orin literally smacks Audrey. Orin sounded so flat.) n Christ, it really pissed me off.
Anyway I have a lot more thoughts on this production but, I don't really know how to continue on with this post.. I jus don't like the cast n they don't sing well t'gether. I dunno.
Thanks for your ask, Anon!

Legally Blonde the Musical Bootlegs
My friend, the wonderful @august-and-clouds, has found a treasure trove of lost lbtm bootlegs and has uploaded them to youtube (all unlisted). There are 3 complete boots of the San Francisco run, a Broadway run from May 2007, and a Korean production. Enjoy!!

Open Starter
((factory tour, works better with CATCF muses or OCs but open to all! Crossovers and OCs welcome as always.))
Tumblr media
Wren Wonka would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous. Sure, she actually left the factory, unlike her brother (her twin, younger by five minutes and thirty seven seconds), but she very rarely was out for very long, even then. The poor woman had become practically agoraphobic. She hadn't socialized properly with anyone aside from her brother aside from the Oompa Loompa, Lofty. And she wasn't sure if the little orange man even liked her company, though he was just like that with everyone.
However, she pushed her nerves to the side, adjusting the top hat she was wearing, brown with a purple band wrapped around it and what seemed to be...a cog attached to it. If that looked strange, the rest of the outfit was something else entirely. "Steampunk" was the word the elder Wonka twin had used to describe it. Her dress was reminiscent of a chocolate wrapper, browns and purples mixing in an aesthetically pleasing way, a few chains attached to her skirt, aswell as pockets. She wondered why no one had invented a dress with pockets before her. She also had on tights and boots, which had a spiked heel.
She made all of her own clothes, had done ever since she learned to sew. She remembered begging mama to teach her. She never got the chance, sadly.
"Good-"
She cleared her throat to hide the nervous crack of her voice.
"Good evening, and welcome to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory!"

what’s your favorite example of a tv show shoehorning in an actor’s singing ability when singing is not necessarily part of their character? mine is christian borle “don’t say yes” in smash and michael c. hall joining a gay men’s choir/lauren ambrose “what a little moonlight” daydream in six feet under

I think we found Baxter's VA and it's not Richard or Alex
it's Kevin Del Aguila Thanks to @/strw_bxrii(Twitter)
He's a Broadway actor
hasn't posted any HH related posts until the Baxter storyboard
follows the hazbin hotel account on insta
Vivzie and Kevin follows each other on insta and Twitter
used to work with Christian Borle in "Some Like It Hot" (points for the voxtech baxter theory)
What's interesting is that Alex brightman is the only HH actor he followed on insta (baxtious hahahaha baxtious)
You can hear his voice sample here: https://youtu.be/9BLT9Le3wR4?si=WDXueFiLz-TB5XE6 https://x.com/VaporBabe2023/status/1823572013471961360?t=PAPSjRaThf84G9ze0MVQHQ&s=19

I have complained about this to my friends all too often, but last year, for my highschool’s performing arts trip, we went to New York to see some Broadway shows. My favorite that I saw was Some Like it Hot. Amazing show, btw, I cried because it was my first time seeing a trans person performing on Broadway. Anyway, now that I’ve seen Falsettos and gotten to see more of Christian Borle, I’m kind of mad I didn’t appreciate back then how insane it was that I was seeing Christian Borle perform live. Like now I’ve forgotten a lot of it, but if I just knew back then what I know now, I would remember so much more of it.
Can I just say, I haven’t seen a lot of C Borle’s work, except for these 2 musicals, but I see almost no one talk about his work on Some Like it Hot. Like after listening to the cast album, He lied When he Said Hello became one of my favorite songs from the whole show.
This isn’t to downplay the rest of the cast btw. Like I said, I cried over J. Harrison Ghee’s performance, and Adrianna Hicks’s performance of Sugar was absolutely incredible, just to name some of the people I remember the most. But everyone did great. I love Some like it Hot

Hello, I’m Vee
Honestly am just a desperate theater kid who needs to interact with other theater freaks rn.
If you’re interested in any of these musicals, you should hit me up because again, I am DESPERATE (on my knees begging guys)
MY FAVORITE MUSICALS (as of late):
Some Like It Hot
Falsettos (The entire Marvin Trilogy, actually. This is and has always been my favorite — I love In Trousers and the original 1992 cast of Falsettos, but the 2016 revival have my entire heart as well obviously — huge C. Borle fan)
Grand Hotel
Next To Normal
A New Brain
25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee
(I like any/everything by William Finn)
Spies Are Forever
Something Rotten
The Boys from Syracuse
Some honorable mentions:
Ride The Cyclone, Avenue Q, Bare: A Pop Opera, The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, Annie, The Book of Mormon, School of Rock, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Six, 1776, Bring It On, Jekyll & Hyde, The Producers. . .
A lot more I don’t feel like listing, but my musical theater/showtunes playlist is well over 24 hours. I’m getting into Gutenberg right now and recommendations are very much welcome
That’s all, bye

What things have you watched for more Davenport stuff, and what did you think about it?
I'm considering buying a DVD set of Smash, and see if I can watch 10 percent, The Wedding Date and Next of Kin online.
I've already seen Kingsman (not just for him), The Journey of Mary Bryant but have yet to watch The Talented Mr. Ripley.
lmao. the amount of time i have spent on this dude...i'm gonna put this below a cut on the off-chance this won't show up in the tags, but here, in an orderly categorized list, is what i've watched for this dude
i would recommend:
p.irates of the caribbean — lmao
the t.alented mr ripley — this movie is not scary but it is haunting. it will stick with you like carrion to bones. highly recommend
why w.omen kill — he and lucy liu steal the show in season 1, which is very good, and he's the narrator in season 2, which is less good, but still entertaining. this show is so so good. please watch it
the incredible journey of m.ary bryant — it's probably a whole hour longer than it needs to be but everyone is putting their whole hearts into their performances
haven't we met before? this extremely cute commercial with f.elicity jones — it's five minutes long. it's adorable. it's even a little saucy. he's got the smash-era hair without being in smash. very good.
the m.oth 1997 — this was very early in his career and you can really tell, but he is adorable, and the writing itself perfectly embodies that hokey, melodramatic period drama bullshit that i so love
e.roica 2003 — 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 THE 19TH CENTURY FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
i wouldn't recommend, and he's not in them very much, but they're alright:
the m.orning show — check for triggers. he's only in the first season but he's great. and it turns into a soap opera in the second season on and not in a good way
k.ingsmen — justice for my guy. RIP
p.irate radio — b.ill nighy is great in this! jdav is in a gorgeous longcoat. but then there is the misogyny
a u.nited kingdom — gorgeous film, killer cast, oversimplification of history but very good for what it is. jdav leans into the sneering brit archetype so hard it makes you realize he definitely could sound more sinister than he already does, he just rarely drops his voice to the bottom of his register
i wouldn't recommend, but you may like them if you go in with more information:
s.mash — given all the talent on this show, it is baffling that it's so bad. jdav plays a genuinely awful man who is by far the most interesting character in the show, which means every conflict centers around him, and not always in a good way. watch this show to see jdav handsomely draped across furniture serving cunt alongside c.hristian borle and a.njelica houston and m.egan hilty and enjoy some of the the greatest musical performances ever conceived. ignore everything else. it is not worth your brain cells
the w.edding date — maybe the worst romcom i've ever seen? jdav is adorable and playing an atypical idiot. he has more chemistry with the romantic interest then the actual lead, to the point where i thought they'd end up together
f.lashforward — i enjoyed this show and will be thinking about it for a long time. it's a nostalgic 2000s 24-alike, but it won't be for everyone. his character is very sweet, which is a rarity and a boon.
g.uernica — i would rate this movie a c- but jdav's accent in this needs to be heard to be believed. also burn gorman is there. burn my beloved
you should not watch:
he was in a netflix western set in australia that was so bad i'm not going to bother looking up the name. it is GORGEOUS but you should watch this movie muted and with the captions off and you will inevitably come up with a better plot. listen to a little bit of his accent though.
don't watch smash. please god. don't do it. i know what category i put it in but don't do it. listen to me. i'm begging you.
i have heard good things about w.hy women kill and g.uernica though! and i've been trying to track down the m.oth, they've been on my list forever. definitely let me know about 10 percent, i have no way of finding that as an american lol
july 2024 edit: list has been updated. still haven't tracked down 10 percent <3
