Wilbur “Willy” Wonka is from Wonderland (his name is actually just Wonka but he chose ‘Wilbur’ as his fake first name for business reasons.) He worked as the court wizard for the Queen of Hearts, but was trained as a soldier. However, what he desired most of all was to escape Wonderland and find his own way in life. Ever since he was a child, he had grand dreams of inventing chocolate and candy that nobody could ever imagine. The reason behind his ambition was due to growing up in a poor part of Wonderland where there was nothing sweet or colorful — it was bland, bland bland! The only thing that kept him going was the most amazing natural chocolate river that flowed not far from his home. He often visited it just to marvel at its wonder. He made it a life goal to one day re-create it.

One day, he managed to escape Wonderland with the help of complex magic, an immense amount of luck, and his fantastic brain! Using his home as a mode of transportation, he powered it with a stolen heart from the Queen’s stash. The hearts of Wonderlanders act as valuable fuel that the Queen uses for her own gain, but she also displays them as trophies. This stolen heart helped him not only escape Wonderland, but traverse time and universes.

Because he’s from Wonderland, Wonka doesn’t visibly age. Appearance-wise he is stuck in the form of a mid-thirties man. Even in various universes, this doesn’t change. However, he can’t stick around in one place for too long otherwise he’d draw a lot of suspicion. This is also one of the reasons he doesn’t show himself to those who might question why he doesn’t age. He sets up a chocolate factory, then once he decides to move on to a new place or time period, a shell of the factory is left behind and looks nothing more than an abandoned building. To anyone who isn’t supernatural like him, it appears as if the factory has shut down and left to rot.

I am devastated that I don’t have any friends that listen to Worlds Beyond Number, because the new episode (ep 33 The Witness) is the single best episode of a ttrpg actual play I think I’ll ever see (figuratively, because it’s a podcast).

The insane amount of trust between all of them to be able to let loose on each other’s characters in such an (understandably) volatile way was just awe inspiring. It evoked so much feeling, and such complex feelings. The characters are having a rough time (understatement) and to finally have the horrible emotional catharsis of release was horrible and beautiful. It had the vibe of ‘my parents are fighting’ in all the right ways.

Also the sound design was phenomenal. Taylor worked some kind of magic with all of the details, and (vague spoilers) Suvi’s identify spell was such an amazing experience to hear. It almost felt like the magic of seeing the scene in the boat from the old Charlie and the chocolate factory movie, just a torrent of feelings and sounds.

@quiddie’s rp was breathtaking. Literally, I had chest pain from how stressed I was (affectionate). Suvi is the most intricately complex character I’ve ever had the pleasure to obsess over and I adore her because of how humanly real she feels.

I literally don’t have the words to explain how much I loved this episode. This image just about sums it up.

Ps, I’ve watched all d20 seasons and some other stuff and don’t think I’d ever heard Lou raise his voice seriously before (“you lied” from Ravening War is the closest but that didn’t have the same vibe because it was about being slammed down big style) and I fully put my hand over my mouth like a shocked Victorian woman. God, they’re all just such good actors, storytellers, improvisers aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Wren Wonka would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous. Sure, she actually left the factory, unlike her brother (her twin, younger by five minutes and thirty seven seconds), but she very rarely was out for very long, even then. The poor woman had become practically agoraphobic. She hadn't socialized properly with anyone aside from her brother aside from the Oompa Loompa, Lofty. And she wasn't sure if the little orange man even liked her company, though he was just like that with everyone.

However, she pushed her nerves to the side, adjusting the top hat she was wearing, brown with a purple band wrapped around it and what seemed to be...a cog attached to it. If that looked strange, the rest of the outfit was something else entirely. "Steampunk" was the word the elder Wonka twin had used to describe it. Her dress was reminiscent of a chocolate wrapper, browns and purples mixing in an aesthetically pleasing way, a few chains attached to her skirt, aswell as pockets. She wondered why no one had invented a dress with pockets before her. She also had on tights and boots, which had a spiked heel.

She made all of her own clothes, had done ever since she learned to sew. She remembered begging mama to teach her. She never got the chance, sadly.

She cleared her throat to hide the nervous crack of her voice.

"Good evening, and welcome to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory!"
