I mean, wouldn't necessarily say that of myself? Fndjdkd I mean, I don't even consider my word law, I'm constantly teasing apart his canon and reconsidering my own perspectives on elements of it and my stances on certain headcanons or how I want to extrapolate from canon — y'all got a pretty good look at my thought process with the bloodburn thing. I went from a hard "oh no" to a "hm wait if I think about this-" in the span of about ten minutes after going to research things. That's just how I operate, I'm constantly just fiddling with my own fictional sandbox.

Honestly, the only thing I really do is just focus on stuff that is reiterated a bunch? Like if it's in the movies, that's canon, and if something goes against it...well it's probably not canon, but with expanded material it gets trickier.

Like, personally, I do not consider anything in the visual dictionaries "canon" besides the little character details like Poe breaking his arm as a kid, just simply because a) the writer for those dictionaries really doesn't seem to like Poe at all, b) the tlj dictionary completely rewrites Poe's storyline to make it seem like fanon's interpretation of his actions in tlj were correct (they're not), and c) despite freefall almost definitely being in development at the time, the tros dictionary cites Poe being with Zorii for way longer than he was.

What I do count as canon is the stuff that gets backed up frequently by other bits of material. I consider the novelizations - even if I don't personally vibe with the tlj or tros ones - to be far more canon than, say, the last two arcs of the Poe comics just because they're more closely tied to the movies + you have the sequence of events in the tfa novel reiterated in the flight log, and the book that shall not be named is closely tied to those last two arcs of the comics, and the rise of skywalker + star wars.com has retconned it. twice.

There's still plenty of things I don't get about him! Sometimes my friends will just point out an angle I had never considered before (such as @/dameronalone who is a Poe expert - poexpert? - in her own right and gets him on a level that is simply just 😘🤌 amazing and showstopping, just to give one example) and it makes me reconsider things!

Mostly, I just like gathering facts abt him because I like tucking away information on things (or people) I love, and I like making sure I stay on top of things + read all his stuff because back in 2018-2020 sections of the fandom had a nasty habit of taking scenes of his out of context to make it seem like they were ruining his character, and after believing that for about a year just to find out it wasn't true fhdjdkddk left me determined to make sure I knew absolutely everything abt him so I wasn't duped again lmfao.

—  He’s  been  caught  red  handed  :  he  catches  himself  staring  at  her  a  lot  ,  but  he  hadn’t  anticipated  the  moment  that  she  would  catch  his  gaze  locked  onto  her  features  before  he  would  rip  his  eyes  .  She’s  beautiful  ,  perhaps  the  most  beautiful  woman  he’s  ever  laid  eyes  on  and  though  he’s  sure  he’s  thought  this  a  million  times  over  to  himself  ,  he  can’t  recall  if  he  had  ever  actually  expressed  such  a  thought  aloud  to  Zorii  .  The  repercussions  were  something  he’d  been  afraid  of  .  That  maybe  ,  she  wouldn’t  take  the  compliment  well  .  That  her  face  would  twist  into  a  foul  grimace  in  response  ,  distaste  written  across  her  features  as  she’d  let  out  a  frustrated  sound  and  claim  that  he  was  just  as  creepy  as  the  other  ‘  pigs  ’  lurking  the  streets  of  Gotham  City  .  And  these  thoughts  stray  far  from  who  she  really  is  :  Zorii  is  the  kindest  person  he’s  ever  met  and  it  was  entirely  illogical  for  him  to  think  this  way  ,  but  his  thoughts  proceed  to  wander  anyways  .  Irrational  thoughts  ;  ones  so  negative  and  his  mind  would  only  continue  to  stumble  downwards  into  the  darkest  corners  of  everything  he  knows  because  he’s  long  since  taken  the  last  of  his  medication  .  He’s  losing  control  .    

—   His  brows  lift  slightly  in  response  and  his  smile  widens  slightly  .  He’s  half  tempted  to  brush  it  off  and  lie  to  her  and  throw  out  some  false  excuse  to  explain  why  his  gaze  lingered  for  far  longer  than  what’s  normal  .  It’s  what  he  would  have  done  before  ;  white  lies  are  his  defense  mechanism  .  But  he’s  been  feeling  brave  ever  since  the  subway  shooting  .  His  life  is  unraveling  a  day  at  a  time  and  he’s  starting  to  feel  that  he’s  got  nothing  left  to  lose  anyways  It  was  now  or  never  ,  the  cops  are  on  his  trail  and  he’s  running  out  of  time  .  What’s  another  slap  in  the  face  anyways  ?  It  was  bound  to  happen  eventually  ,  might  as  well  get  it  out  of  the  way  now  he  supposes  .  Besides  ,  maybe  if  she’s  already  mad  at  him  ,  his  arrest  wouldn’t  phase  her  as  much  .  So  ,  he  decides  to  be  honest  with  her  all  while  expecting  the  worst  possible  outcome  .  Rejection  .  “  No  ,  there’s  nothing  on  your  face  .  ”  He  assures  her  .  There’s  not  stopping  it  now  ,  he’s  going  to  tell  her  this  time  .  “  I  was  just  admiring  how  beautiful  you  look  today  .  ”  he  then  said  .  “  You  look  beautiful  every  day  ,  actually  .  I  just  haven’t  had  the  courage  to  tell  you  .  ”

“Thank you,” the young witch had said to the ferryman after climbing off the boat. It had been an awkward ride, but that was because she had been trying not to bleed on the boat. It was weird, she had always imagined death as being painless, and in a way it was because the pain that her illness had caused her for years were all gone, but this wound on her stomach seemed to appear out of nowhere. Had she been stabbed? She didn’t remember, but she found it unlikely. Just her luck.

Slowly, she followed the directions she’d been giving, and at times the other souls, not entirely sure what to expect. She remembered reading up on the underworld maybe a few years ago, but books written by the living were never entirely accurate. When she had been led to an impressive set of double doors, she knocked lightly, unsure if she was supposed to just enter or not. Maybe she should have read up more on this place.

HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BIG AND IMPOSING AND SHE SUPPOSED THE CAPE WAS PART OF THAT, but Zorii could only think of how much he looked like he was trying to emulate images of the past when she saw Kylo Ren standing with fabric billowing in the breeze.  Her helmet on, she was sure her identity was at the very least safe from discovery by the general population and she approached him without an ounce of fear. ❝ I think you’d be more imposing if the cape was red. Just saying. ❞ As a smuggler she’d had plenty of dealings with the First Order. Zorii was never picky about whom she did business with as long as it got her paid at the end of the day. 

❝ I brought those goods you requested. You’d better not stiff me on my requests after this though, Lord Ren. ❞

Something I haven’t seen people talking about is that there are 3 (three) death fake-outs in Rise of Skywalker

Chewie - his “death” had such a sloppy setup both visually and in the dialogue and ultimately served no purpose except to shock the audience. Finn sees Chewie getting taken away by First Order officers on a transport, there’s no indication of a second ship anywhere in the shot, he runs out to yell at Rey that Chewie’s been taken and he’s on the ship flying away, she gets in a tug of war over the ship with Kylo and ends up blowing it up with her Force lightning which, you’d think, would set up a great internal conflict for Rey to struggle with for the rest of the movie, or at least until they learn Chewie wasn’t on the ship and survived. And there’s literally no emotional reaction from Kylo? Was it because he knew Chewie wasn’t on the ship? Anyway Chewie’s death fake-out served no purpose because the set-up was bad and there was no emotional payoff for the other characters.

C-3PO - Threepio was treated so disrespectfully in this movie just in general and, again, Threepio’s “sacrifice” ultimately meant nothing because Artoo had his memory back-up anyway. I did think the idea of him being physically unable to translate Sith runes because of old Republic laws affecting his programming was interesting but....I don’t know, the whole thing just felt lazy. Again, it was more about shocking the audience by almost killing a beloved character from the OT.

Zorii - no offense to Keri Russell but we just didn’t have any time whatsoever to become emotionally invested in a character that’s being introduced in the final installment of a trilogy. Zorii felt like she was only there so the writers could retcon Poe’s backstory to make him a drug dealer which was incredibly stupid and massively racist. I literally felt nothing when they showed the FO blowing up Kajimi and we were supposed to assume Zorii was still on the planet.

You know who REALLY should’ve had a death fake-out? Ben Chewbacca FUCKING Organa-Solo

But if he knew anything about Zorii at all, he knew it wasn’t uncharacteristic of her to say it unprompted and the warmth in his cheeks did little to hide his awkwardness. “Right,” he replied, attempting to mask the embarrassment with a light chuckle. His arms folded loosely across his chest while he tried to gather himself--- looking like a fool would further ruin what little impression he had left on her. “What do you want me to do with that information, hm?”
