Daily Check-in:
July 2nd, 2024 🎀
Hello! I'm backkkkk! Now that I'm finally doing stuff again, I figured I'd start my daily check ins again and keep myself motivated and accountable with doing productive stuff daily! no challenges, no pressure, just an understanding that something is better than nothing!
🩷 What I Accomplished:
took a 2.5 hour nap in the morning (had an anxiety attack randomly that left ne absolutely exhausted but the nap was so nice)
reviewed a few Spanish lessons on Busuu
completed 2 new Spanish lessons on Busuu
completed 2 Korean Hangul lessons on Busuu
booked an Italki Spanish lesson for July 15th
booked an Italki trial lesson in Korean for July 24th (pushing myself to learn the alphabet and study as much as possible til then so I won't be an absolute absolute beginner, hopefully)
reached out to a tattoo/piercing shop about some piercings my friends and I want to maybe get while in Colorado
bought a margarita pizza from a little Italian pizza shop and it was DELICIOUS
journaled in the morning
did my night time skincare (I needed it, my face was dry and flaky)
drank ~40oz of water (definitely should've drank more)
reached out to an online health and fitness coach, so we'll see how that goes, if it goes anywhere
💔 What Could've Gone Better:
random anxiety attack stopped me from going to workout so I stayed in bed most of the day, exhausted
didn't get many steps in or do much in general
ate 4 out of the 6 slices of pizza (it was comforting, idk. it happens, so I won't beat myself up. saved those 2 slices for my roommates if she wants them!)
could've definitely spent less time on tiktok and more time studying the languages I'm trying to learn
might even broken my middle toe on my left foot after slamming it into the side of a bottom drawer that I didn't know was open
💗 Stuff For Tomorrow (July 3rd)
make all necessary payments (rent, new apartment, credit cards, etc)
study Spanish a bit (~1 hour or more)
study Korean Hangul a decent amount (~1 hour, or more, preferably)
try to workout or at least keep my steps up
do laundry
wash our towels (housekeeping here in seriously not the best)
find somewhere to buy Tylenol and tape for my (most likely) broken toe
try not to spend too much money eating out today, since I got paid
do not forget to take my medications!
morning journaling and night journaling
doing my skincare in the morning and at night
keeping up with my hygiene in general, like brushing teeth, shower exfoliation, Shaving, etc (kinds like having a self care maintenance day)
💕 Song of The Day: Girls Never Die - tripleS
this is my favorite song to listen to on the bus home from work at the moment
not much left to say, but today will definitely be a good day for me! I'll make sure of it
til next time lovelies 🩷

its time for the yearly 12th perigee present post (yeah i know its still christmas eve in other timezones im Impatient)
nancor gifted gliese some sunflowers in a cool gothic-style vase since he thought she'd appreciate the contrast, as well as some dark chocolate
dismas gifted maidel a really rare and difficult to find video game that she mentioned wanting to play once. he may have also blackmailed everyone who tried to bid on it on the online auction website he found it on to ensure that he was able to get it at a good price
callan gifted gerrel those clawed gardening gloves because he thought they were funny and also useful (and the pair he bought are in his shade of green, the most fashionable colour out there of course), and some seed packets so he can grow all the veggies he needs to put on a pizza. which callan totally doesn't want to taste test
ashell gifted cheran a couple books, as well as a set of inks and brushes that he thought cheran could use for his anatomical sketches (which he bought from jikiro's company lmao). he gifted jikiro a little hamper filled with different types of berries and some fancy glass jars because he read that they can be used to make ink as well as be eaten, as well as a box of chocolate truffles and a cute tanuki print stationery set because he got anxious that his initial gift idea wasn't good enough lmao
velour made jamie a couple button-up shirts, one covered in subtle star patterns that show off different constellations, and another that has an embroidered kookaburra peeking out of the shirt pocket. he also made a couple bow ties as well, which he says when he's feeling better he'll enchant so the fabric is a bit more interesting. he also made socks and gloves for jikiro and kana, ji's pair being black with classy striped accents in all his quadrant's colours, while kana's pair are patterned to look like tanuki paws
mikiel was a bit unoriginal and gifted both lyvere and thrixe cookbooks, but he did make sure to buy them books based on whatever cuisine they're currently most interested in
lusien gifted anirus a really nice and expensive bottle of scotch (the kind that you only want to drink on special occasions) as well as a fresh batch of homemade jams and preserved foods they can keep on their ship without worrying about them spoiling too quickly
sharle gifted jamie books on how to speak italian, french, and monegasque (remarking that it took him hours to find the last one) since he knows that jamie was trying to learn those languages. he also gifted tira a limited edition snapback (because he collects them), gave quinne a fishing rod (because she mentioned that she likes catching fish but didn't own a rod), and ropikk a bottle of very expensive perfume (because he googled 'gifts for women')
viltau gifted jikiro some custom-tailored silk pyjamas decorated with a regal japanese maple design, a matching silk robe, and would treat him to a candlelit dinner... provided that ji can solve the scavenger hunt vil has prepared for him first. kitaer also gets send on a scavenger hunt, but his reward is the bodies belonging to the perpetrators of a crime kitaer was trying to solve. and also a traditional 12th perigee pudding and some homemade mince pies, because he is capable of catering to his kismesis' lack of a sweet tooth sometimes. viltau's employees also got a big bonus of extra cash and some gift cards
glasya gifted mikail another new plant for his apartment, and will take him out on a trip to the beach so they can go look at the rock pools together and then get a nice dinner at a beachfront restaurant. they also made bags of candies for all their friends using thematically appropriate candy moulds
vallis gifted epsilo a life-sized moray eel plushie, while zanzul and tuuya were gifted starfish and sea snail plushies respectively
linnae went out and picked some pretty wildflowers and ingredients to make potions with for arctus, and also gave a couple wildflowers to his other friends as well
everyone else also gave gifts to their quadrants / close friends but i couldn't think of something specific because i'm braindead. imagine a really cool gift here for every ship (romantic or platonic) i missed

Day 19 - Rome (21.01.2023)
Today was my first real day in Rome. Yesterday I bought a 48-hour ticket for the metro and this morning I took the metro to „Closseo“ to see the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and all the historical buildings around. When I arrived, there were so many tourists and also many vendors trying to sell their guided tours. There was no getting around them. One of them told me that there were no more tickets for today and I could only buy one for tomorrow or join the guided tour. But I just scanned the QR code for the online tickets and there were still some left. So I bought my ticket for the Roman Forum, the Colosseum and the Platine Hill. I spent around two hours at the Roman Forum just walking around and admiring the buildings and the view. After that I went to the Colosseum to get my time slot.
Then I walked to the „Altare della Patria“ past the Forum of Augustus and the Foro di Cesare. The Altar of the Fatherland is so impressive and so beautiful - inspires me every time.
After that I wanted to see the Pantheon and get something to eat there. There was a demonstration at the Pantheon, but I could still see it. Then I got some pasta at a little pasta store that a girl recommended. After that, of course, an ice cream - delicious as always. Then I was back at the Spanish steps and saw the sun already setting. So I googled „best viewpoints“ in Rome and found the „Piazza del Popolo“ with the „Terrazza del Pincio“. It was so beautiful there. A band was playing live music and I watched the sunset for half an hour.
After getting back to the hostel, I decided to end my day with a gym session. I finally found an Italian city with my gym. Afterwards I got a slice of pizza and the guy there just gave me a second slice for free. So kind of him. The perfect end to the day.

I think a lot of people complaining about this are actually complaining about the hegemony of American culture.
Because it feels kind of alienating and weird to have everyone, including people from the countries that you're actually bordering, know the American version of your food and not the version from your country and consider it the "right" way to make a particular dish, in large part because in that country they buy and consume American media and this is where their ideas about food come from.
It's especially frustrating when you constantly get a bunch of tourists visiting your country and many of them complain because your version is not like the popular Americanized version. I think around 60% of foreigners that I've met told me point blank to my face that our pizza is shitty compared to the American-style pizza from their country and thought it was a perfectly acceptable thing to say about someone's beloved national dish - at some point people become titchy and backlash-happy over it.
Everything has some kind of common ancestry if you go back far enough, but if you have spent 100+ years independently developing your cuisine on another continent from the motherland, it's safe to say that it's become its own separate thing and you should call it Italian-American cuisine and not Italian cuisine.
This doesn't make Italian-American cuisine fake or somehow inferior to Italian cuisine, but it does make it a different thing that should be judged on its own merits and not in relation to Italian cuisine. Italian-American cuisine, for example, has a great tradition of local cured meats that are excellent and delicious and in no way inferior to Italian cured meats, but they are very different because the ingredients and methods of making them are different. It is authentic to Italian-American cuisine, even if it's perhaps not authentic to Italian cuisine. Or perhaps it is, if they still make it the same.
I don't think USians realize how much their voice is prevalent in the world, especially in online discourse, and how much everyone else is constantly adapting to their terms and their lived experience and their way of dividing up the world. I empathize with the experience of being a minority in the US and of course their voices should be heard but very often nearly the only thing you see and hear of a certain culture is the experience of their US-based diaspora and almost nothing about the people living in the country itself and the way they experience their own culture.
I feel this becomes extra important when considering people from countries with a worse international reputation than somewhere like Italy - I've seen a bunch of people think the only acceptable Chinese food is the Americanized version and the actual food they make in China is disgusting and inedible because China bad China eat dog.
The nature of the immigrant is any food they make is inauthentic, neither "authentic" food from their homeland nor "authentic" food from where they live. This is of course, not xenophobic in the slightest.

National Pepperoni Pizza Day
A perfect combination of cheesy goodness and savory toppings, this classic dish is a crowd-pleaser that's perfect for any occasion.
Almost everyone would have to agree with Mr. James about the feeling of pizza. There are a series of promises inherently made in that fragrant, warm cardboard box. Rich, savory red sauce and the long tantalizing stretch of delicious cheese are held within, a delicious treasure to share with friends and family, or hog all alone. The perfect topping for this delicious dish absolutely must be some slices of well-spiced pepperoni. National Pepperoni Pizza Day reminds everyone to give this classic a place in their day, and take a well-earned break from cooking.
History of National Pepperoni Pizza Day
Pepperoni pizza has become the standard pizza for people all over the world. In fact, it stands apart as the singularly most ordered type of pizza on the entire planet. Whether buying pizza for a birthday party or a day at the office, pretty much everyone knows that they can be guaranteed a positive response by buying one topped with pepperoni!
The pizza is believed to have first been developed in Italy in 1889 by Raffaele Esposito, though others claim that the first one was sold in 1738 in Naples, Italy.
Pepperoni is one of many cased meats (like salami, but spicier) that likely traces its origins back to Italian immigrants to New York City in the early 1900s. At least, the first known mention of pepperoni is when they began appearing in delis and at pizzerias all throughout the city, made from a mix of beef and pork and some added spices (specifically peppers–which is where the name was derived from).
With a finer grain than most Italian meats, pepperoni is softer, which makes it a favorite for putting on top of pizza!
It wasn’t until the 1950s that pizza became a widespread dish in the United States. The first mention of pizza in the US was in a New York Times article that called it “a pie popular in Southern Italy”. And, even then, it was continuing to develop flavor over time. One of the best developments, of course, was the addition of pepperoni. And it has grown into an American icon ever since.
Now it’s time to celebrate National Pepperoni Pizza Day!
How to Celebrate National Pepperoni Pizza Day
Celebrating and enjoying National Pepperoni Pizza Day comes with all kinds of delightful–and delicious–opportunities! Try these ideas or come up with a few other creative ones to enjoy the day:
Eat Pepperoni Pizza All Day Long
Pizza can certainly be consumed at every point in the day, piping hot for dinner and lunch, and cold in the morning. Some people even profess that pizza tastes far better cold than it does hot from the oven, though it seems that would be largely dependent on the type of pizza.
People who want to go all out for celebrating this day can enjoy starting National Pepperoni Pizza Day by popping a pepperoni pizza Hot Pocket into the microwave for breakfast. They are simply delicious and a great (even if not so healthy) way to start the day.
Then, of course, there is the pepperoni with pineapple for lunch and pepperoni with olives and mushrooms for dinner. No matter what is added to a pizza, as long as it starts with pepperoni, it is guaranteed to be absolutely delicious.
Learn Fun Facts About Pizza
Family, friends and coworkers will enjoy the fun of National Pepperoni Pizza Day much more when they hear these interesting and fun facts about the day! Try these trivia facts to share or search online for others:
Pepperoni is considered to be the most popular pizza topping in the United States, with a majority of at least 66%. Even though people get more and more creative with pizza toppings each year, pepperoni continues to hold its own as the favorite.
In August of 1994, the first ever physical good to be purchased on the internet was a pepperoni and mushroom pizza. It was purchased through Pizza Hut’s website, at the time called “PizzaNet”. The company’s record for the most pizza sold online in one day was set on Super Bowl 2021, where more than $10 million in digital sales were made even before halftime hit.
Americans consume more than 250 million pounds of pepperoni on their pizza slices each year. Now that’s a lot of delicious pizza!
The first pizzeria to open in America was Lombardi’s in New York City, New York. Originally a grocery store, it started selling pizzas in 1905.
Host a National Pepperoni Pizza Day Party
Get together with friends for a pizza party, and share what everyone’s favorite additions are to a standard pepperoni pizza. It’s easy to pick up some cheap pepperoni pizza at a local pizza joint, or throw some frozen pizzas in the oven.
For a fun National Pepperoni Pizza Day Party activity, try making individual pizzas and letting everyone top add their own toppings. Buying premade refrigerated pizza dough makes a super easy base to start with. Then supply tomato sauce (better when doctored with spices), grated cheese and, of course, ample amounts of pepperoni. Bake them and serve them hot to each individual guest. This is a party activity that is loads of fun and also delicious!
Get Deals and Discounts on Pepperoni Pizza
This is a day when many restaurants and pizza places like to celebrate with their guests by offering their customers a super cheap deal on pizza, side dishes or drinks. Each restaurant is different, of course, so it’s best to check with local places to see what they have on offer. But here are some pizza chains that have been known in the past to offer sweet deals in celebration of the day:
Papa John’s Pizza. With stores located all over the world, Papa John’s is famous for their takeout pizza. Special deals are usually decided locally, so pop into the restaurant or call and ask what their National Pepperoni Pizza Day specials are!
BJs Brewhouse. This is an American restaurant with more than 200 locations. In the past, they have been known to offer half off of a large pepperoni pizza in honor of the day (online only).
Pizza Hut. One of the original pizza chains, this company has stores in several international locations as well as all over the United States. Celebrate National Pepperoni Pizza Day here with various discounts such as 20% off or two medium pizzas for $12.99. Check the local store for details about current deals.
Consider Other Pizza Toppings
Oh, and for those who are engaged in that whole ‘pineapple vs no-pineapple’ debate, many people think that pineapple is a fine pizza topping. Anyone is allowed to disagree, of course as certainly people shouldn’t be stopped from going about the business of being wrong!
Of course, it’s likely that eventually most people will come around but, in the meantime, people can certainly agree on pepperoni pizza being the best pizza of all!

1st-3rd july
My last morning in Vienna, I packed up my bags and left them in the hostel locker room while I went out to find a pastry for breakfast—I suppose it was what we would call a danish, filled with custard and raspberries. It was a rainy morning and I sought shelter in the entrance of the Charles Church, but I didn’t go it because they were charging admission and I’ve been into plenty of very good churches in Vienna for free now. Eventually I accepted the rain was not going anywhere and scurried through the streets as quickly as possible, hugging the edges of buildings, until I found a supermarket where I could stock up for the day ahead. The train between Vienna and Venice is eight hours long, by far the longest single journey during my travels aside from the plane leg across the Indian Ocean. So carrying an extra bag of snack material I took the metro back to Vienna main station and waited for my train. The service was fairly quiet to begin with, perhaps most of the horde is not arriving in Venice via train from Austria. After eating my packed lunch I fell into a bit of a stupor, and woke back up to the mountains, the last dregs of the Alps stretching across Western Europe until they petered out here in rural Austria.
The train passed through many tunnels under mountains, at other times weaving around them, the endless dark green hills heavy with pine and occasionally broken by pieces of limestone protruding from the forest. There were small towns too, whose silent and run-down stations we passed through mostly without stopping. Although the journey was a long one, I only experienced any true suffering after waking from another nap so thirsty my throat was dry and burning, but I was one euro short in cash to buy a bottle of water, and card payment was only accepted online. As we sat outside one rural station for twenty minutes, delayed, I did battle with the mobile service in the mountains of regional Austria to make a purchase and at last succeeded (I had more luck than another Australian family sitting across from me, who I didn’t reveal myself to, comfortable in the perception of being something foreign). Then we passed on into Italy, signified by the dramatic change in station names and the arrival of the Italian police on board—and the architecture of the towns was different too, transformed into that Italianate style. Once or twice we crossed on bridges over shallow rivers where the water ran a striking aqua over white stone flats. And as we came into the seventh or eighth hour of the journey the mountains sloped down into farmland and pale fields. And so at last the mostly empty train was skating across the lagoon with the city of Venice in view.
I exited the train station with a sense of exhilaration—it’s hard not to, when the Rialto is right there, lined with some of Venice’s most glamorous buildings. And I had no great task ahead of me now, because my accommodation was less than ten minutes’ walk from the Venezia S.L. and my suitcase is the size of a carry-on; I have no need of the hawking luggage porters outside the station who probably cost more than my train here. I arrived at my apartment tucked away in a small alley block where the owner, Franco, came to meet me after I rang the bell. Up two very narrow flights of stairs was the peaceful, old-fashioned entrance hall with doors leading to three rooms for rent, the bathroom and the homely little kitchen. Franco checked me in and showed me the essentials provided, including coffee, little brioches and packets of Nutella, and suggested if I needed a good pizza I go just around the corner to the restaurant there because it would be closed the next two days. I’d actually bookmarked that place as my plan for the night, especially since it was already well past eight (not late for the Italians, but late for me), and took this as a sign. Definitely this trattoria was a scene for locals and not lone tourists like me, but after a while the very kind waiter convinced two of the older Italian men taking up a quarter of the restaurant between them to continue their espressos and conversation on just the one four-person table instead of two. I ordered the salami pizza which I ate true Italian style with my knife and fork. I only managed to eat about two-thirds but saved some room for a tiramisu, a favourite of all time that I needed to christen my arrival in Italy. The loud chatter of the locals and the warmth of the atmosphere reminded me of what I have always loved about this country, so different to the places I have stayed so far.
The only negative I woke up to in the early hours of the next day was a significant number of mosquito bites, but I found the culprit and made it pay for its crimes. Then I talked with Mum on the phone, who is now in Lyon, and wandered without direction through the alleyways that were empty except for the streetcleaners and a few men making deliveries. Of course I was in love already, pausing on each little bridge and in every campo. I crossed the Rialto bridge when I was almost the only person there, having passed by the fishmongers still setting up their stalls, the tourist stands still closed. For breakfast I hovered shyly outside a café as it opened and waited until an appropriate number of Italians had gone in to get their espresso before I went in for my cappuccino and croissant. I walked to the edge of the city and saw the wide sea beyond, getting lost until it was finally time for me to brave St Mark’s Square. Even before ten o’clock it was rabid there, with huge crowds of tourists and a queue for the not-yet-open basilica. I sat on a bench by the gondola mongers watching the scene develop while I waited for my entrance slot to the Ducal Palace. I am told I visited it when I was last in Venice as a child, but I have no memory of it.
I wouldn’t have guessed from the outside how magnificent it really was within, every roof and wall so ornately painted with as much gold gilding the borders as there was fresco within. There were very good signs with information in each room, explaining its historical use and identifying every painting by its artist and subject. In other rooms they had impressive collections from the armoury, of a very different style to the Hapsburg weaponry I saw before. And then across the Bridge of Sighs into the bleak dungeons, the opposite in every way to the glorious rooms above. Of all, I liked most the Veronese fresco of Juno gifting a crown to Venice. I always like to see how artists represent places, cities as people. Civilisations choose to view themselves in interesting ways. After fighting my way back out of the crowds in St Mark’s Square I went to find a square of pizza for lunch before retreating to my little apartment where it was quiet and out of the sun—it lies just far enough from the main street that even though the open window allows every footstep and seagull’s cry in, it still seems far away from the Venice out there on the tourist thoroughfares, jammed between souvenir stalls and tour guides.
Eventually I recovered some energy and crept back out the door to wander the streets some more. While sitting in the middle of a square I became acquainted with some local children who were playing while their parents drank their aperitifs—a little boy stood on the ledge above my head throwing an empty plastic bottle to his sister below over and over which seemed to entertain them for a good fifteen minutes at least. I ate a dinner of pasta outside a restaurant on the canal closest to my accommodation, watching the steady stream of tourists heading back towards the train station at the end of the day. I’m already almost used to Italian mealtimes now, if only because I feel too awkward to eat out early when everyone else is still having their drinks and snacks elsewhere. So it was almost dark as I made my way back to bed, exhausted from the early start to the day. My second morning in Venice started out unusually similar to the first—I bought a piece of apricot crostata (nothing will ever come between me and my love for Italian apricot jam) and went back to St Mark’s Square. My joint ticket for the Ducal Palace also gave entrance to the Correr Museum at a separate time; I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the collection but I enjoyed it a lot. As well as many fine relics of antiquity and renaissance sculptures, they had some beautiful globes and maps, and those have always been a favourite of mine. Fra’ Mauro’s map of the world mounted on the wall was the most magnificent of these, five hundred years old, covered in colourful script describing hundreds of ancient cities. Unlike the Ducal Palace across the square, it was quiet enough amongst the palace’s many marble bodies, at least until one stepped back out into the square and fell back into the masses.
After picking up a small prosciutto roll I walked from the centre of Venice to the edge, where I caught the boat from Fondamenta Nove to the island of San Michele Cemetery. There the avenues held almost no company except for the occasional old Venetian taking flowers to a grave—every stone, even the older family ones, was adorned with some kind of bouquet or small garden bed, and there were even watering cans hanging next to taps so visitors could water the flowers. After walking around the cemetery for a while I sat in the shade by the church, until at last another boat arrived to take me back to the city of Venice. It was early afternoon and hot by then, and crowded, so I bought some fritto misto from a stand surrounded by pigeons scrabbling over pieces of calamari and went home for a nap. Before dinner I stopped for an Aperol spritz and some crisps (I don’t like Aperol, but I was feeling left out) and looked over the photos I’d taken that day, many of which were of the cats I have encountered loafing around doorsteps and town squares, more so than in any other city thus far.
For dinner I ate on the Rio Tera S. Leonardo, some tagliata with vegetables and polenta, followed by tiramisu served in a little teapot. Even though it was late for me, the true Italians were only still just arriving as I finished my dessert and paid, while the tourists shuffled west towards the train station. In the dark I followed the street signs Per San Marco to see the basilica at night—it was brightly coloured by a light show in the square, casting a glow upon every pale wall. The Rialto Bridge was mostly empty by the time I crossed back over, with only a few people standing to take pictures against the backdrop of night cruises and light upon the water. It was raining but only ever so lightly, just enough to make the paving stones glisten under streetlamps and outside restaurants. All the souvenir stands were shut up and the shops had their shutters pulled down to the floor, even all the pigeons had retired somewhere for the evening. I thought this was the true beauty of Venice, quiet with a cool breeze coming in off the water. I let myself in my front door and up the narrow winding staircase for the last time—in my mind I still heard the waves lapping up against the edge of the city, portside early in the morning, the sunlight was pouring in over the sea.

3. Homemade Pizza Night
I've come to realise that all of the activities so far have centred around food, but who can say no to homemade pizza?!
I am a bit of a snob when it comes to pizza, I prefer a thin and crispy crust with lots of toppings and minimal meat. Homemade pizzas are therefore the perfect way to enjoy a pizza that is exactly to my liking.
Again, like the last few activities, I recruited my friends for help. We slightly cheated by buying pre-made pizza dough, although I have seen some delicious dough recipes online and will link some below if anyone is up for the challenge of making it from scratch.
We made two pizzas- one margherita and one olive, prosciutto and caramelised onion. We also used a blend of shredded cheese and mozarella balls to achieve that perfect cheesy, gooey melt.
Paired with a loaf of sourdough garlic bread, the pizzas turned out absolutely delicious! They were easy, cost efficient, and a lot of fun to make.
Recreate our pizzas!
Margherita:
Tomato paste
Tomatoes sliced
Fresh basil
Shredded cheese
Fresh mozarella sliced
2. Olive & Prosciutto:

However, the digital landscape can feel like the Wild West for many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Standing out amongst the online competition requires a strategic approach, and that starts with keyword research.

The Importance of Keyword Research for Perth Businesses
Imagine potential customers searching for the services or products you offer in Perth. What words or phrases would they use in a search engine like Google? Keyword research helps you identify those exact search terms, giving you valuable insights into your target audience's needs and online behavior.
By incorporating these keywords strategically throughout your website content, online listings, and marketing materials, you increase your website's visibility for relevant searches. This translates to:
Increased Website Traffic: Attract more qualified leads who are actively searching for what you offer.
Improved Search Engine Ranking: Optimized content with relevant keywords signals to search engines like Google that your website is relevant to specific user searches, leading to higher search rankings and organic traffic.
Enhanced Brand Awareness: Targeted keyword use helps your business appear in search results for terms associated with your industry and expertise, building brand awareness in the Perth market.
Better Conversions: By understanding your audience's search intent, you can tailor your content and website experience to their needs, ultimately leading to higher conversion rates (turning website visitors into paying customers).
Understanding Keyword Types & Search Intent
Not all keywords are created equal. Understanding different keyword types and search intent is crucial for crafting an effective keyword research strategy.
1. Keyword Types:
There are three main categories of keywords:
Head Keywords: These are broad, high-volume search terms that are often very competitive. For example, "restaurants in Perth."
Body Keywords: More specific than head keywords, these offer a better chance of ranking but with lower search volume. Think "best Italian restaurants in North Perth."
Long-Tail Keywords: These are highly specific phrases with very low competition but targeted search intent. For instance, "gluten-free vegan pizza delivery North Perth."
2. Search Intent:
Search intent refers to the reason behind a user's search query. Are they looking for information ("best hiking trails near Perth"), researching products ("reviews of mountain bikes Perth"), or ready to make a purchase ("buy mountain bike online Perth")?
Understanding search intent allows you to tailor your content to the user's needs and improve your conversion rates.
Essential Keyword Research Tools for Perth Businesses
The good news is you don't need to be a digital marketing expert to conduct effective keyword research. Several free and paid tools can help Perth businesses discover the right keywords for their online presence.
Google Keyword Planner: This free tool from Google Ads allows you to research search volume, competition level, and related keyword suggestions.
Ubersuggest: A free and paid keyword research tool offering insights like search volume, competition, and long-tail keyword suggestions.
Answer the Public: This online tool helps you discover the questions people are asking related to your target keywords.
Moz Keyword Explorer: A paid tool providing in-depth keyword research, including search volume, competition, organic click-through rate (CTR), and keyword difficulty score.
Pro Tip: When using keyword research tools, remember to target keywords relevant to Perth and its surrounding areas. Include location-specific terms in your research phrases, such as "Perth," "Western Australia," or specific suburbs within Perth, to attract local customers.
Developing a Perth-Centric Keyword Strategy
Now that you understand the importance of keyword research and have the tools at your disposal, let's create a Perth-centric keyword strategy:
1. Identify Your Target Audience:
Understanding their demographics, interests, and online behavior is crucial for choosing relevant keywords.
2. Brainstorm Seed Keywords: Think about the core services or products you offer and brainstorm broad keywords related to your business. Include location-specific terms like "Perth."
3. Utilize Keyword Research Tools: Use the tools mentioned earlier to research your seed keywords and uncover related terms, search volume, and competition level.
4. Focus on Long-Tail Keywords: While head keywords might seem appealing, the competition is often fierce. Perth businesses can find success by targeting long-tail keywords with lower competition but higher search intent.
5. Consider Local Search Intent: People in Perth often search for businesses offering services or products in their immediate vicinity. Include suburb-specific terms in your keyword strategy (e.g., "plumber in North Perth").
6. Leverage Perth-Specific Events and Trends: Is there a popular local festival or sporting event in Perth? Capitalize on seasonal trends or local events by incorporating relevant keywords into your content strategy.
7. Analyze Your Competitors: Use keyword research tools to see what keywords your competitors in Perth are targeting. This can give you valuable insights into what's working in your industry and identify potential gaps in their strategy.
Keyword Research FAQs
How often should I update my keyword research?
Keyword trends and search behavior can evolve over time. It's recommended to revisit and update your keyword research strategy at least once every quarter. This allows you to identify new keyword opportunities, monitor changes in search volume and competition, and adapt your content strategy accordingly.
What if I don't have the time or resources to conduct keyword research myself?
There are many freelance SEO specialists and digital marketing agencies that offer keyword research services. They can help you conduct in-depth research, identify relevant keywords, and develop a targeted keyword strategy for your Perth business.
Should I focus solely on high-volume keywords?
While high-volume keywords offer the potential for a wider audience reach, the competition for these terms can be fierce. A balanced approach is key. Utilize a mix of high-volume, mid-volume, and long-tail keywords to optimize your content for both search visibility and targeted user intent.
How can I track the performance of my chosen keywords?
There are several free and paid tools available to track your keyword performance. Google Search Console and Google Analytics are excellent resources for monitoring keyword rankings, website traffic sources, and user behavior related to specific keywords.
Conclusion: Mastering the Art of Perth SEO
The digital landscape might seem daunting, but with a strategic approach to keyword research and affordable web design in Perth, your business can thrive online. By understanding your target audience, identifying relevant keywords, and creating content that resonates with their search intent, you can attract new customers and establish yourself as a trusted brand in the Perth market.
